Re: what you said about sapnap’s audience issue, I agree with you and based and what you said, I think sapnap it’s most interested in streaming what he wants instead of what the audience he has wants, and what he wants and likes to stream is mostly fps and other brocore games which are the games twitch frogs most of the time likes.

So Tldr I don’t think sapnap is purposely trying to change his audience, he’s just doing things that attracts the teen boy audience because that’s the content he likes doing

Fandom goal #3 for 2017: Video games

I became part of video game fandom back in 1988. In the last decade or so, I have often asked myself, “Why am I still active?” There have been times when I have asked questions such as “Should I have left the fandom many years ago?” or even “Do I still like any video games?”

A few reasons why I’m kind of cynical and frustrated:

1. “Brocore / fratcore.” I have heard that many recent games emphasize slaughtering opponents in gory and horrifying ways. At the same time, I have heard that this is intended as black comedy. In other words, the player is expected to rejoice when they kill an enemy. Especially in online games when their character kills another. I have used terms like “brocore” and “fratcore” to describe video games which place an emphasis on killing opponents to cause the people grief.

2. “Two categories or it doesn’t sell.” Can the video game be cynically described as a _Doom_ clone? (A relatively linear title in which the protagonist uses weapons to massacre everything on screen.) If so, then it will sell millions of copies. Or can the video game be just-as-cynically described as a GTA clone? (Relatively open world title in which the protagonist uses weapons to massacre everything on screen.) It will also sell millions. I write this because it seems like any video game which doesn’t fit into either category is ignored or disparaged.

3. Disinterest in home console and desktop PCs. As I said in my “Fandom goal #2″ post, I don’t like sitting at home and experiencing pop culture media. I’d rather get outside and enjoy things. This is why nearly all of my video game experiences since about 2009 have been on mobile devices or portable consoles.

4. “Can a $5 US mobile game be just as entertaining as a $60 console game?” I first asked that question around 2009 when I got into Kairosoft’s title _Game Dev Story. It had drawbacks, but I was surprised at how compelling it was. Because of how much I liked it, I purchased at least six of the company’s other titles (and liked three of them). In any event, I still ask questions like this today. Should I consider freeware to be completely different from high budget games? Do indie games exist somewhere in between them?

Having admitted all that, here are some video game fandom related things which I will strive to do during 2017:

* Giving PC games another chance. At this moment, I have an new laptop which might be compatible with a few 2D games. Once I get it to connect with my home network, I will then use the “Can You Run It” website to determine if the computer will work with some inexpensive indie games. (If you’re curious, the laptop runs Windows 8. It has an Intel processor which runs at 2.16 GHz. The computer has 4 GB of RAM. However, I don’t know how much VRAM it has.)

* Trying a few games which I have avoided. For instance, when I learned about the _God of War_ franchise a decade ago, I did not consider it to be interesting. It sounded like just another title which encouraged the player to slaughter every enemy. However, I saw the PSP title _Chains of Olympus_ on sale on PSN a while ago, and chose to buy it. Later this year, I’ll download it on my Vita, and give it a chance. There are a few other famous franchises which I tried once, and have ignored since then. _Halo_ comes to mind. So does _Dragon Age_. Maybe I will even open that XB360 copy of _Bioshock_ that’s been collecting dust on my shelf.

* Exploring games on iTunes at least a bit more. A few weeks ago, I got into *The Manga Works*, which is the first Kairosoft mobile game which I’ve tried in at least a year. There are other iOS titles which I’ve bought, but which I have left unused, such as *Knights of the Old Republic.* I am sure there are many iTunes gems which I should discover and then discuss.
