I've gotta wonder how Flowey's potbot would change in the dark world? Like does it count as his clothes in which case Az just gets a new look, or does it count as inventory like Kris's pencil (which makes a sword) or Susie's hairbrush (?) which becomes an axe, in which it would completely change form and maybe even grant him some new magic. Or maybe not, since unlike the deltarune monsters, he already has magic. One thing, I know, is if Frisk had the stick, it would turn into a cool staff or broom capable of flight. Also, the kids costumes, weapons and roles do seem reminescent of dnd classes, like Susie's a barbarian, Ralsei's a cleric, Red's a knight/paladin (someone says Kris would probably fit better as a rogue if on their own and I agree), and Noelle's a White Mage. So I'm gonna say Frisk would be a bard, because of the flirtiness and silly showiness, and Asriel would be like a... warlock or sorceror? something cool, edgy and god of hyperdeath like (or maybe just another barbarian, he is pretty agressive and impulsive sometimes...).

And I'm pretty convinced that you bring Chara to the darkworld and their beloved dagger straight up becomes a flaming sword, fit for a persecuting Angel =)

You activiated my brain, friend! Thank you! Anyways, I couldn't decide if this would be their Darkworld looks or just their DND looks, it's up to you. Either way I got a little too creative.

Asriel still wasn't able to fully get his real body back in this world, but thankfully the potbot transformed with him and still serves as his body and while he looks crabby in the picture, he really warms up to it and loves this form (and yes, his bangs are also his flower petals!) I had trouble deciding what class he would be, but landed on him long ago being a cleric (like Ralsei) then turned into a soulless druid, then turned into a fighter (still a druid but with a soul now?? I dunno, send help) ( either way, the armor-body and chaos saber helped me decide)

His Chaos Saber is now a Gold Flower (Chaos) Saber, but it's cursed and whispers things old Flowey used to say, but Asriel whispers back and tells it to shut up and never listens. (It's a lot like Finn's grass sword issue with Fern (Adventure Time))

While he plays a guitar in Growing Pains and even sings some, I was unsure if being a bard would have fit him because Frisk enjoys singing so much more than him and even later becomes a professional karaoke singer...

OH WAIT, what if he eventually transforms his saber into a guitar and transitions into a bard too? DOUBLE BARD TEAM, NOW THEY'RE A BAND! (Again, send help.)

Now to Frisk, I really liked your idea for them being a bard because you're right, it does definitely fit them, they prefer talking and flirting their way out of situations than fighting.

Their stick becomes and magic mic, it makes their opponent listen to them (depending on their level) and they can either sing like they're a professional karaoke singer, using their song to support Asriel and make him stronger, or, they can act as a comedic therapist to either distract the opponent with laughter, or get in their head and make them cry with a single powerful word. (The therapist method is extremely effective but it rarely works/makes Frisk very tired)

(In their Angel of Mercy AU I made of them, their stick is actually part sword, and I think it's an optional route for them if they ever wanted to shake things up and change classes, but perhaps they become a sorcerer or cleric and their sticks grows and becomes a wand?)

Like Kris, their color pallet changes and they become pink/purplish/gold, but I couldn't decide what to do with their hair and skin, so I kept it mostly the same but made it cooler.

this is less of a theory, and more of a headcanon

(Deltarune Spoiler Warning (go play it godamnit, its free and amazing))

Kris made a deal with Gaster in the bunker to let Gaster control kris using their soul and make the holiday family stop spending time with the Dreemurr family so that Asriel would spend more time with Kris instead of December, Gaster made Dess dissappear, we have seen that Kris has taken extreme measures to make sure people stay (like slashing Toriel's tires) but losing dess would most likely make Asriel distance himself (as we've seen him do in Undertale, when he leaves after you try to spare him as Flowey in a nuetral run) and go to college, leaving Kris anyway, this would probably make Kris feel even more abandoned, ontop of losing Asriel anyway, the dissapearance of December would end up forcing Toriel and Asgore apart, as Asgore would be taking increasingly more extreme measures to try and find Dess (as Asgore is most likely her godfather seeing the relationship Rudy and he has), Asgore eventually getting fired and Toriel leaves him as she didn't aprove of his methods (again, we've seen this happen in Undertale), and then Kris wouldn't even be able to go back to hanging out with Noelle as she'd also be looking for Dess (looking for her sister makes logical sense, but in case it needs to be confirmed for any reason, Noelle's room is decorated with a calendar with each day being labelled the 25th because Queen based it off her search history and Noelle would probably be searching "December Holiday" online, also Spamton Sweepstakes confirms she has a blog, so asking around for sightings of December online makes sense) this action with Gaster to make their brother stay ultimately causing everyone to leave would make Kris probably never want to go near the bunker again, also when Susie scares away Monster Kid and Snowdrake, she asks "are you OK?" to Kris, kris probably looked scared or nervous around the bunker as the player is forcing them to this area with so many bad emotions, they probably looked scared enough for Susie to ask if they're alright. Kris probably shut themselves off from everyone, probably because of the "if I just don't make any more friends, I won't lose them" mentality that is pretty common in people with abandonment problems, they probably would've done it so if Gaster decides to take control of Kris whenever he feels like it, at least it can't really get much worse (also this is probably why they didn't really seem interested in becoming friends with Susie or Ralsei), and long enough that everyone eventually stopped asking if they were alright (they probably would've assumed it was because of Toriel's and Asgore's divorce) Gaster having a human soul with the power to use it's determination to create dark fountains from within a darkworld (my theory is that the bunker is a dark world) to expand his domain and threaten the darkners. (also Gaster making deals similar to Bill Cipher fits in with Spamton and Jevil, he promised them freedom (he probably promised to make them immune to being turned to stone during the Roaring or something))

this theory means that Kris has 3 layers to being controlled, Kris' own control (or lack there of) then us (the Player), then Gaster, this is why the player connects with Gaster at the start of the game, before they are interrupted by someone with a different style of speech (this theory make Kris themselves a very logical contendor, as kris would believe choices don't matter (because of the speech in the art above) and also not want to be controlled even more), and then there's Gaster, who controlls kris when The Player doesn't, like the Act options, they player can choose what to do, but neither Kris or The Player are doing it (like Hugging the Ralsei Dummy for example, you don't hald Left and walk over to the Dummy, Kris just seems to do that on their own) this would make it so Kris removing their soul and glaring at the camera mean that Kris isn't staring at The Player, but staring at Gaster, Kris would be Glaring at Gaster as a taunt for removing his control over them, and the player most likely would think Kris is looking at them because they aren't supposed to know about Gaster. now we have to address the end of chapter 2, as it seems to contradict my control layers theory, as Kris removes control from both Us and Gaster, and then procedes to make a dark fountain as if working towards Gaster's plan. there are 2 possible answers;

Kris IS working towards Gaster's plan and creating dark fountain for him as it could've been part of their deal to get rid of December, OR

Kris doesn't know that Gaster wan't more dark world and made that one to hold together the life they have left before Gaster takes it away again, in this one dark world, they can spend time with Toriel, Susie, Ralsei, and either Undyne or Asgore, there is a possibility of it being Asgore beacause maybe Toriel called him instead of Undyne as he used to be a cop and would protect Kris no matter what the cost, also a chapter with Toriel in it has a chance for Toby Fox to go more in-depth with Toriel's and Asgore's relationship, but how they acted towards eachother earlier in that day lowers the chance, and it seems like a bit early of a chapter to fix the parents in Kris's Story, so it's more likely Undyne.

The roaring would work well in Gasters favour as he is probably the King of Darkness (bc Ralsei is the Prince), he probably created Ralsei with Kris in-mind, as he planned for them to meet anyway, Also if Ralsei has been created for Kris, than why does he say he's so old, and how does he know about the Roaring? simple, Gaster probably just told Ralsei about the Roaring, and they were probably created around the same time December went missing, which seems to be a few years ago, and time could pass a little bit differently in the dark worlds, my idea is that the dark worlds take twice as long as a normal day, as in chapter 1, the whole crew is knocked out for an unexplained amount of time before Card Castle, and when they leave the dark world, it's late afternoon, but in chapter 2, kris falls asleep until noon and then spends even more time in the dark world than chapter 1 and still comes out at late noon, also Susie says "it felt like years" when talking about the differnce between Chapter 1 and 2, while it could've been a clever joke from Toby fox about how long it took to make the game, it also could've been from the time warping properties of a dark world, as this is her first time in a dark world, she would probably be experiencing some kind of time dialation? it's a bit far-fetched, but it would make Ralsei technically older than he logically should be, but we also don't know just how long he's been alone as he's only really said "so long" but it would also explain why he was so alone, is probably because Gaster left him there in the closet for so long, there is probably a connection to the Bunker like there was to the first dark world in chapter 1, and there are probably more doors to get to other dark world which explains how Ralsei got to Cyber World, but also Ralsei said "THE Door" when talking about the door in chapter 1, so who knows. Also if Gaster Created Ralsei, then he probably would've given him the power to survive in any dark world.

So in conclusion, Gaster is the Knight, but also Kris is the Knight, the cyber world and the chapter 2 cliffhanger world were created by Kris, seemingly by their own fruition, but it's probably caused by gaster in some way, and Kris doesn't actually want the Roaring, or something idk, i just felt like drawing Kris and my mind went wandering lol

Feylow is this universe's Ralsei equivalent. Helps guide them and explains things.

Because this happens at Asgore's shop, "Flower King," Royal (King?) is the big bad and wants to stop the Lightners from closing the dark fountain.

Flower, bug enemies*, garden gnomes, lots of fun stuff can be used, idk. i'll think hard about what can be done. I'm thinking this fangame chapter won't be as long as DR chapter 1, doesn't need to be SUPER big or complex

Chara confronts Ruler/King/Idk their name yet, gets the "I need to leave Asriel" message for self-growth

uhhhhhh the fact that the world is crumbling and getting influenced by deltarune, could be a mid-game twist that they're connecting. Ralsei can step in and be like "hey. you guys ): are screwing things up ))): " and will eventually adopt this darkworld's inhabitants.

* bugs probably shouldn't count BUT I AM counting it because flowers count as Feylow is a daffodil. this is my executive decision for the betterment of the story

as for spamton, i don't really see the spamton sweepstakes itself as canon but it kinda works as Spamton exists as a spam email. he's an email, he can be online.

and yea fruit would count, Pumpkin can exist as a sentient pumpkin.

though idk, she doesn't really fit the theme of this area (cowgirl doesn't really fit gardens, unless its like, a cactus area) nor the story really? (not that anyone would know this) but she works as a good foil to someone who's very bitter to the world. Feylow already fits that role.

Sadly Pumpkin won't be in AFR 😭😭😭 i WILL find a way to add her into something SOMEDAY. i am forever sad until then.

anyway i'm not... the happiest with connecting this to DR, but if I'm having the garden BE Asgore's shop again, then it has to be a Chara-Made-Actual Darkworld and not an artificial one that Gaster made in the past.

Gaster is the root cause of this but it's all done post-humorously and never directly. We get implications that he messed with darkworlds and time/space but it's never "hoho i'm the man who speaks with hands i'm scary goop guy!!!!!!" like the man is Nonexistent. He GONE. i guess I COULD have him appear but i literally already tried that last time and it sucked ass tbh.

Still feeling 😑over ralsei popping up but like, the alternative is that the fountain is closed and the garden's life becomes non-sentient again. like imagine being a worm, becoming a person with a lived history, then becoming a worm again. it'd be so fucked up.

tho i gotta wonder how tf is this going to impact the lightworld. How much do they know of this multi-verse shenanigans? cause the tumblr!AFR has them being missing. But if there's giant smoke clouds over Monsterland I'd imagine Chara + friends being missing would be contributed to them investigating rather than dipping out

Deltarune Ch. 7 Secret Boss Crackpot Theory (SPOILERS AHEAD)

I believe the final secret boss of the game is the vessel.

To prove this, I’ll need to explain three major points.

1. The secret boss implication, one exists in every chapter 

2. The Seven Deadly Sins Theory + Their connection to the theme of “freedom”

3. The Vessel’s connection to a sin through how they were discarded.

- 3a. Toby Fox’s Meta Narrative

So, let’s begin with the obvious:

There’s a secret boss in every chapter.

While it’s not directly proven, it’s most certainly implied that every chapter has a secret boss. Chapter 1 is Jevil, and Chapter 2 is Spamton respectively. There’s a pattern involved between the two. If you defeat Jevil when only fighting him, he mentions the villain of Ch. 2, the QUEEN. In chapter 2, Spamton himself sorta references Jevil (not certain), and talks about a TV related character named MIKE, who’s implied to be the boss of Ch. 3, given the hints about him being TV related plus the smile in the TV as well, it’s most likely true.

With that established, we can see a running trend where every chapter, from 1-6 will all have secret bosses. Where, a secret boss is required to give hints about what comes next, so there really only needs to be 6. Though, why do I say there’ll be 7 secret bosses despite there only needing to be 6? This will tie into my next point of exposition.

The Seven Deadly Sins Theory.

As we know, there are going to be 7 chapters, that is a fact. And interestingly, there are also the seven deadly sins, which lines up perfectly with the seven chapters. 1 sin per chapter. Now, who embodies these sins? The secret bosses. To prove that, we’ll begin with our two best, and only examples, Jevil and Spamton.

This one is relatively self-explanatory. In the fight with Jevil, he always talks about how he’s the only one who is free, and how he can literally do anything. 

Another point to be made is the Christian bible’s interpretation of Pride, how it’s a “high or exalted attitude” towards God. One example was “throwing away gifts from god.” If we replace the word God with freedom, and combine that with how he pretends that he’s free despite throwing away his gift of freedom to be imprisoned, similar to how arrogant people think they’re better than God, it makes sense why Jevil would fit this category.

This ties into the theme of freedom, in that Jevil doesn’t have freedom, but pretends they do. 

Paradoxical Freedom.

Spamton. This guy’s backstory is about him falling from grace because he followed his greed. He used to be a BIG SHOT, and that desire to be big led him to becoming a corrupted puppet living in a dumpster.

The definition of greed in the biblical sense is that Greedy people are “ruthless self-seeking, and an arrogant assumption that others and things exist for one’s own benefit.” This fits him rather perfectly. He uses Kris for his own ends, to become BIG in the form of Spamton NEO. And when that wasn’t enough, he tried to kill Kris and take their soul. If that isn’t the mindset of someone who uses people for their own gain, then I don’t know what is.

His story revolves around his deep desire for freedom, and how he’ll do anything to get it, yet he fails every time he tries. 

Sisyphean Freedom.

So, we know there’s going to be 6-7 secret bosses, and there’s a clear connection between these bosses and the seven deadly sins. And every secret boss has some sort of connection to freedom. So...

... with this in mind, how does this all tie in with the Vessel? What is their connection to the secret bosses? The sins? Freedom?

It’s simple, really.

One word.

Wrath.

Now, why Wrath of all things?

To explain, we need to give some context.

Let’s start with Toby Fox’s writing, his Meta-Narrative. We know Toby Fox, and he has a tenacity to connect video game rules to his stories.

Examples include, but are not limited to:

* Saving/Loading: Time-travel in story, videogame function outside it.

* Shopkeeper NPCS: You can’t fight them. No matter what.

* Darkworld Fountains: Creating them is like creating a story, using real world elements to help create the fictional world and make it seem real. 

* Muffet: Her being paid by Gaster in reference to the Kickstarter campaign for Undertale where she was added if a 1000 dollar goal was met.

These are but one of many, many examples of Toby Fox’s writing for a Meta-Narrative, taking video-game functions and incorporating them into the story while connecting them to real life. The Meta Narrative context is very important, because the vessel is another example of Toby’s writing.

The vessel, in Toby Fox’s Meta-Narrative, is a living example of the connection between player and character.

In a videogame, any kind of videogame, you have complete and utter control over the main character, the protagonist. We have seen this countless times, the only way to continue the story, to adventure through these vast, beautiful, fictional worlds, is through these characters. They are VESSELS to us, the player. That is their purpose, to be controlled by us.

Now, with this in mind, it is clear. The purpose of this vessel in Deltarune is to be controlled by the player, you. Just like in any other video game. Now, there’s a problem with that...

YOU DON’T CONTROL THEM.

You control Kris.

Their one purpose in this world was taken from them. We were supposed to control them, they were the vessel we should’ve inhabited. We were their purpose. Now, because of the world, because of how “No one can choose who they are in this world” they don’t get to fulfil their purpose. They become an empty shell, literally and/or metaphorically.

Now, this becomes a bit more interesting once we involve Kris.

Kris is someone who IS controlled, despite not wanting to be. You are forced to control, not a puppet, but an actual person. You were never meant to control them, nor were they meant to be controlled, but the world forced it to happen.

Now, imagine for a moment, that you were the Vessel.

Your desire, your fulfillment in life, your passion, your everything was to be controlled. And how, you were forced to lose that, your will to live, just stolen from you by things you don’t understand. And now, you face them...

Kris.

A being who is controlled, who has your purpose, your needs. You are like a poor person, who is in desperate need of money just to survive. And Kris is like a billionaire, someone who has so much, that they don’t even need it.

You don’t know how or why this happened, but you come to the best conclusion you could.

Kris took your purpose from you.

That thought would first come to mind. You have no concept of Gaster, or other otherworldly beings, all you can comprehend is that you are missing your purpose, and this child in front of you took it from you. All you know is that you were in the dark, you saw the player create you, make you who you are. Giving you a purpose to exist. And now all of the sudden, they are stolen from you, by this... this random person...

...Wouldn’t you be mad, furious even?

Wouldn’t you do whatever it took just to get what you need? To be happy? To have your purpose? Even if it meant killing someone for it?

... Maybe.

That’s why I believe Wrath suits the vessel, it would give the vessel’s story both a meta-narrative, (video-game character you control) one and a personal (wants to be controlled) one.

To further support this idea, let’s look into the definition of wrath for a moment. While it’s true wrath is “strong vengeful anger” it also has a secondary meaning. “Retributory punishment for an offense or a crime : divine chastisement, wrath.” This ties in to the idea that the Vessel wants to attack Kris, because they think Kris deserves to be punished. Punished for taking us, the player, away from them.

This also would tie into the theme of freedom in Deltarune, in a much more challenging way. While Jevil and Spamton both desire to obtain true freedom, the Vessel would be an example of the inverse, someone who is free but wants to be controlled. This would be such a great turn up for the story, as I’d imagine the other 6 secret bosses would all wish for freedom in some capacity, while the Vessel, a creature who truly is free, wishes for the opposite to be true.

In any case, this presents an interesting dichotomy, between both the Vessel and Kris.

Kris is someone who wants to be free, but is controlled.

The Vessel is someone who wants to be controlled, yet is free.

This would most likely develop into a nemesis relationship, where both of these characters would hate each other, because they both are the exact same, yet their ideals are complete opposites. The fight itself would most likely be a reference to the “you must fight a dark version of yourself” trope in videogames. Toby Fox himself would most likely incorporate that SOMEWHERE in his game, so why not in this game?

But, I don’t think it’s just that.

I believe this final fight won’t just be the vessel vs Kris. If what we said was true, and the Vessel wants us to control them, then they won’t want to just fight Kris...

THE FINAL SECRET BOSS IS NOT THE VESSEL. IT’S YOU.

The secret fight will be you, the player, against the person you controlled, Kris.

Suddenly, this would make the fight a lot more complicated. You are the one who’s up against the fun gang, along with everyone else they’ve accumulated because of your actions.

In a sense, it would be utterly ironic. You are responsible for setting yourself up to fight against the people you’ve helped, the ones you got to know so much about. In a sense, you are no different from the rest of these other secret bosses. You try to use what little freedom you have to help these people, and they end up trying to kick your ass.

Though, I doubt you’d lose and die, the only person who would want you dead is Kris, and I doubt their friends would let them kill you.

Though, what that would imply for the ending... I’ll let you figure that one out yourself.

CONCLUSION:

With all this in mind, secret bosses, the connection to the seven deadly sins, the meta narrative and the personal narrative alongside it, it’s clear that the Vessel will come into conflict with Kris, most likely a personal, wrathful vendetta against them for taking the player away from them. After that, Kris becomes free, and the player controls the vessel, you fight Kris in the end, after controlling them for most of the game. 

With a narrative that important revolving around Kris, becoming free of the player’s control, I’d imagine it’d most likely take place near the end of the game. Where the Vessel taking away Kris’ strings for themselves holds a lot more meaning. The ending might even revolve around becoming free, probably not in the way we’d expect.

Though frankly, that would just be stretching an already thinned out theory.

Potential Alternative Sin:

Another sin that could theoretically fit the bill in this aspect is Sloth.

Given the fact that the Vessel, having no puppeteer controlling them, after being discarded, it would make sense to assume they can’t do anything.

It would make sense, given the fact Spamton drops like a pile of rocks when he loses his strings.

Though, despite this variation, my idea would still hold firm. The secret fight will involve you controlling the vessel to fight against Kris and the gang. That’s still the same despite switching sins around. Though, it’d make the vessel less of their own character, and it’d lose a lot of character dynamics and whatnot, but that’s just me.

As much as I don’t like it, and think it’d be improbable, it’s not impossible, that’s why I have it here.

i see alot of people being suspicious of ralsei due to his knowledge of both the dark world and the light world, but really i don’t think it has anything to do with any ill intentions on his part.

ramblings below, spoiler warning of course

in the first chapter, ralsei makes a comment about the darkener's purpose being to assist to the lighteners, and that in the process they (the darkeners) will find fulfillment. this makes sense after we find out the truth about what the darkeners are in the light world (things like playing cards, games, stuffed toys). they are items that were made to bring joy to the lighteners.

and i can’t help but wonder if the darkworld itself doesn’t exist to make lighteners happy. maybe the dark world represents a sort of escape from the stresses of the real world, a way for kids like kris and susie, who are both shown to be outcasts at school, can feel like they fit in. a world where they can feel like heroes rather than outcasts.

ralsei in particular seems to want to give kris and susie a sense of belonging, even giving them both personalized rooms in the castle, emphasizing that he wants them to see the dark world as a second home if they want.

likewise, some people have pointed out how knowledgeable ralsei seems to be of the light world, such as the layout of the school or of kris and asriel’s room. but i think it makes perfect sense if we follow the logic that all darkeners are physical objects in the light world. it hasn’t been confirmed what object he is, but we can speculate.

when lancer goes in kris' pocket, he later comments that he saw everything they went through.

he doesn't go into further detail, but what if he meant he saw everything in not only the dark world, but the light world as well? what if be just by being in kris' pocket he was able to see everything kris did in both worlds?

if that was true, it would make sense for ralsei to have knowledge of kris' life in the light world if he is an object that kris carries everywhere or carried everywhere in the past. that would mean he was by kris' side both at school and at home.

and i think a strong contender for this item would be the horned headband toriel mentions kris wearing as a child.

not only would that explain ralsei’s knowledge, but also his desire to make kris feel included, and maybe his appearance as well. the headband was kris way of trying to make themselves feel more like their family by having horns like them. ralsei’s horns are even red like the headbands are, while every other goat monster so far is shown with white horns. it’s hinted that kris is not fond of humans, so they probably dislike their own human appearance. there were probably many times they wished they were a goat monster like their family. maybe ralsei was created by that desire, so his appearance and personality are shaped by that feeling.

I ended that post with a discussion on what Red could be, since it’s not determination. I had trouble because it’d have to fit both the pacifist and no-mercy endings equally.

My answer is Red = Power, Gold = Determination. Chara had a Gold Soul that turned into a Red Soul.

Ok, how did I get there? So like, here’s my Tea. SAVE points clearly come in two colors at the very least. The Red soul in UT and DR have the colors gold and white respectively. The first is Determination, the second The Angel’s Power. Why did I say the Angel’s power?

Let’s buckle up. This is another long one.

I don’t think I need to explain player theory, do I? Yes? I’ll be quick. The combo of a few things. Firstly in this interview Toby explained that:

“I will say that basically, what you're seeing here is not the world of UNDERTALE.“

“...To rephrase that, DELTARUNE's world is a different one. With different characters, that have lived different lives."

Next, there’s Toriel only using fire magic in UT but not in her home in DR. Monsters have graves instead of performing their dust spreading traditions in UT. Humans aren’t feared for their powerful souls while monsters are seen as fragile.

Why bring this up? We don’t know if humans naturally have souls in DR. I’d even argue because souls are the culmination of your entire being, and as it exists as something you use to navigate DR and control Kris + friends with, I’d argue it represents YOU solely.

“At the start of ??????, Kris is a LV1 Human. ‘Body contains a human SOUL.'”

Either the red soul is Kris’ soul changed Red, or it’s a foreign entity taking over their body. I don’t know which fits better, because with the first is the vibe I get from us taking Kris’ previous SAVE point. This action can symbolically represent us taking over their literal body and soul here. Obviously, the red soul put into Kris has to be either Kris’ old soul taken over or brand new, as the description says there’s only A SOUL. Singular.

Now, back to the Angel being connected to the Player. As other smarter people have said, this is the song track that plays when the soul is used to close the Dark Fountain. Simply called, “Your Power.”

With the combo of that and SAVEs being the “power of x”, a literal shining light of power, I feel it’s safe to connect all of these together. The Red Soul is You, the player, you use your the emotion of Power to bend time and control Kris. It is “Your Power” through the Soul that you can leave the darkworld. I’d argue that both the Red Soul and the white light are the same Power by all of these being used for both the SAVE point and the red soul.

Now, you could say that this could just be separate from the Red Soul like how Determination is. After all, all humans have determination. Power being the SAVE power in DR doesn’t mean the Red soul also means power. Kris even used the SAVE point before your control, and if you’re the Angel and it’s your light, how come they had it before you came?

Well, to that, I’d argue while we’re the Angel, we might not be the true true Angel. Kris was possessed with the Red Soul before we got there. Gaster had to make or at least connect to the Red Soul at the Vessel creation scene. All these connected themes tie you to the control of the player to the red soul and the word “power.”

More evidence, simply put by Chara in the No-Mercy Run:

“Greetings. I am Thank you.Your power awakened me from death. My 'human soul. 'My 'determination.' They were not mine, but YOURS.”

There are three things Chara says here. Your Power, Your Soul, Your Determination. They’re separated. They’re different things.

“ Why was I brought back to life? You. With your guidance. I realized the purpose of my reincarnation. Power. “

Here’s more emphasis on the word Power and it’s connection to You, the player. Chara is being literal here, your red soul brought them back from the dead.

We know for a fact that Chara’s soul was red at least when they died. The coffin, painted with a red soul, is described with: “ * (It's as comfortable as it  looks.) “” And with the artificial nature of Gaster calling onto You to control Kris, I wouldn’t say it’s that far fetched that he’s the reason Chara’s soul color is red now. They lied in the same time period, as Chara had lived in New Home and Gaster lived in Hotland. It’s been a long time since Gaster was the scientist.

The game repetitively mentions that Chara died a long time ago.

“ * You're not actually (player name) , are you?* (player name)'s been gone for  a long time. “

I don’t think it’s a coincidence that they’re both described this way. At the very least, it’s not a stretch they’d been at the same time period, and had interacted. As Asgore’s trusted royal scientist, tasked with likely trying to find a way to free monsterkind without killing Chara, would of had to studied their soul. And with his very direct connection of connecting to the Player’s Red Soul in DR? It’s Gaster’s doing that they’re red.

We know either Kris didn’t have a Soul or their soul turned red. We see the Red Soul change colors in battle, so we know it’s possible. If it’s the player’s connection that’s brought Chara back, and you play through Chara who influences Frisk, that’s all Red Soul work. Gaster is likely the reason Chara is back from the dead and that we can play Undertale. Bam.

and here’s my last piece of evidence that Chara and Frisk by extension aren’t natural reds either:

The locket is Gold. The soul is gold here. Now, maybe it’s only not Red because the art is in sepia gold tones, but the logo still has a red heart. I wouldn’t put it past Toby to have made this as a hint.

and again, there’s no red flower. Only Gold.

(also i am aware someone else has made a similar “red is not natural” soul color theory recently, but I only saw that when researching this and I feel I’m having more to say than just that here so it’s fine? I hope?)

anyway, tldr; the word power is both used to describe the Red Soul and the white SAVE power, it’s heavily connected to the Angel’s power and light. Gaster’s influence in this artificial soul can imply the Red color is unnatural, and he could very well have given Chara this soul color as they lived in the same place/time period and had the means/job to do so.

also anyway I think a Gold Soul would be cute as hell and a cool concept, please feel free to use it. I love to see it

First Impressions of Deltarune Chapter 2

So, um, that sorta came out of nowhere. I’m pleased, though! And I’m especially pleased that I can get in on a story-rich indie game right after it comes out for once! That doesn’t usually happen to me. Spoilers under the cut!

- We open on a genuinely tense and genuinely hilarious gag based on the post-credits scene of the last chapter (the really creepy one). You know how everyone joked that Kris was actually just getting the knife out to go get some pie? Well, that’s been confirmed! 

- I check the house for new stuff and it’s mostly the same. Two differences I noticed: 1) There was $5 in Asriel’s drawer that I decided not to take. Did Kris just not see that before? 2) I checked the mirror and it said something like “This is what they call ‘you’”. God, the implications in that sentence... - The school section goes really quickly this time, mostly because Kris immediately falls asleep during a reading, and Susie immediately wants to go check out the closet again. Good, back to the action right away. I did notice that Alphys seemed very worried about us getting paired with Susie, which is sweet, although I’m not afraid of her at this point.

- One short delay before we go see what our Dark World friends have been up to: Noelle wants to know if Susie wants to go do homework together at the library, and Susie is a useless lesbian. Is it symbolic that this is immediately followed by us going back into the closet? ...I’m going to go ahead and believe it’s symbolic.

- Time for a ~** TRANSFORMATION SEQUENCE **

- You know, I played through the first chapter real quick before downloading this one to refresh my memory and because I read on the site that it would make a difference if I started with a save file of the first one. Well, I can see it made a difference right away; not only did I start with the D$ I had at the end of the last one (!!!) but the enemies I spared last time are now recruits.

- Okay, I’m gonna back up a bit; when we first dropped down into Darkworld, Ralsei was there completely alone in his cute pink-horn form. We ask where everybody is, and he instructs Kris to exit Darkworld and come back with all the gathered-up junk from the abandoned classroom. After another ~transformation sequence~, the Darkworld is now populated with all your favorite NPCs from before, but now as denizens of Ralsei’s Castle Town. Okay, so it did matter whether or not we spared them.

- So the theory that the Darkworlders are basically just toys given life? Pretty much confirmed.

- Speaking of Ralsei, I thought he was vaguely sus in the last chapter, simply because I was skeptical of his actual credentials as a Prince of Darkness when Lancer seems to be a better fit for that role. Now he’s very sus. Firstly, we know that all the monsters we spared last time are now his subjects, meaning all that time he spent last chapter insisting that we save ~ everybody ~ and that every battle is winnable by peaceful means? That suddenly looks a bit less altruistic. Secondly, Lancer abruptly became homeless when we “repopulated” Darkworld, which brought him back but not his castle. So it’s like Ralsei usurped his role as the Prince of Darkness. And finally, he’s following me around with his hands clasped behind his back like a damn Bond villain.

- tl;dr, I’m watching you, Ralsei.

- Ralsei says he has a surprise for us in his castle. That was about the time I had to go start dinner, but that seems like a good enough starting point. Ta-ta for now, I’m gonna come back later and see if Ralsei is about to bake us into a cake or something.

You had your hair done up not too nice but not just casual either :’)

You walked across the street to the shop and he saw literally as many men as the car would fit all staring at the both of you

He was originally gonna try to hug you but nOT ANYMORE

“Hey, I’m surprised you came.”

“What? Why? I- I asked you out!” He was v confused

“Because you figured out who I am and got scared?”

“Who you are? I mean, you told me your name when you walked me home the other day?”

“No, I mean what I am. What my job is.”

“I… no?”

You grabbed his shirt and pulled him closer

He almost fell into you but you steadied him

“I’m a mob boss. No one has figured it out yet, but I thought it was pretty obvious.”

Everything all made sense

“So what were you doing at that coffee shop the other day?”

“That’s the first thing you ask?

“I just.. I’ve been curious ever since.”

“The owner owes us a LOT of money. We helped him out of a tight spot one time but somehow, the money was never returned.”

“And so you…?”

“Blew it up.”

“If I make a wrong move tonight out of awkwardness are you gonna shoot me”

“Only if you make a really wrong move, but you can’t make that out of awkwardness, so you’ll be fine.”

He physically gulped someone send help

He let you go first while ordering 

He paid for your drink

He pulled a chair out for you at the little table

He was this close to bending your damn legs for you

“You don’t have to pretend my arms and legs are broken, you know?”

“Sorry. Just nervous I guess.”

“Don’t be. As intimidating as I’m sure I came off, just relax and be yourself. This is me seeing if I want to date you, not some random person that you’re making up on the spot.”

Tagged by @vieliwrites and @bookenders, I didn’t know how to go about that, so I’ve reblogged this with the other part. 

1. Where’s your favourite place to write? (bedroom, coffee shop, study, etc.)

I write wherever I suppose. Usually at my desk in my room, sometimes when I eat at a cafeteria, rare times in bed on my laptop, even rarer times on my phone wherever. 

2. Do you have any writing habits you’re trying to shake?

Recently I’ve been looking for filter words in my writing. ‘She thought.’ ‘He felt.’ ‘They wondered.’ 

3. If you could spend one whole day with one of your characters, who would it be and what would you do with them?

I’d spend the day with Dee. 

She’d try to figure out all my troubles and woes, I’d ignore her attempts (or blab everything to be honest), but TRY to just give that woman some company when she’s off work. She’d probably have something in mind, and it’d probably be really interesting to me because she’d deduce it spot on. Ultimately the day would end where I’d feel guilty, because I’d feel like she did more for me than me for her. But she’d go straight to sleep and wake up and head straight for work to interact with more people. And have made it through another day without the looming moments of solitude. 

4. Do you have any pre-writing rituals or habits? (lighting some candles, showering, etc.)

Music. Water bottle. And I think that sets me up just fine.

5. What’s your favourite genre of book and is it the same as your current wip? Why or why not?

My favorite genre probably is the same as my wip. I like fantastical situations that also give an excuse to push characters to the brink. Whether that’s Gov Spy genre, Space Adventure, Psychological Thriller, Fantasy Quest - whatever mixes Action with slice-of-life, but also higher stakes, you’ve got me. 

6. What’s the hardest part of creating a character for you?

Making them well rounded with flaws. I created a sibling to my protagonist that was almost perfect - her only flaw was ‘caring too much’ which made her an inefficient pushover. She was slated to die and I was heartbroken - but it had to be done. 

On rewrite, she became much more capable. I don’t want to say she grew a backbone, but she DID gain a certain set of moral values that started to contradict her sister, my protagonist. After that, she suddenly wasn’t slated to die anymore either. Its the characters that don’t have anywhere to grow that get killed off. 

7. Do you live by a motto or quote?

Am I interested? Yes? Alright lets do it. No? Alright lets wait a few hours and see how I feel then. 

Everyone says don’t wait for inspiration - and I’m getting that a little more now, but up to this point, pushing myself wasn’t the best idea. 

8. What are your favourite relationship tropes in fiction?

Really strongly bonded relationship’s that know each other inside out, but are at odds too. So - antagonist and protagonist are frenemies. Or two friends bicker constantly, but at the end of the day, will have the other’s back. Siblings might fit that description. Or betrayal. Or two heads of an issue that used to be on the same side. That’s my jam. 

9. Was there something in particular that inspired your current wip? (a piece of art, a song, a scene in a film, etc.)

Yes actually. Troll Hunters.

When Jim came back from the Darklands, his first day or two, he constantly interacted with his old world differently. But when new dangers from the Darkworld showed up, Jim handled them much more proficiently than before, while everyone else was still caught off guard. 

That directly started the first idea of Blooming Under Night. It blossomed and spiraled from there, but the first few chapters so far especially, have that same core. I think what caught me was a character going about a regular life in a way that confuses or is obviously different and even a bit weird to everyone else. But that a character like that still has different ways they’re more skilled and knowledgeable, and that those situations really bring this understanding in full view. 

On revision, I’m really gonna try to instill that.

I have not. If I did, I have no idea what it’d be about.

Okay, time to argue. I blogged before but now I'm gonna make my points.

Susie WANTS people to think she's dark/dragon. Dark is a type that is slightly mistranslated between the englosh and japanese versions of the type. In Japan, it's actually closer in idea to an "evil" type. It's for pokemon that embody wickedness, or underhand tactics. Pokemon that are associated with mean thoughts, lying, stealing, trickery, or being ruthless and brutal. Susie is know around town to be creepy and mean, but it's all an act. According to MK, Susie has never actually beat anyone up. She makes a lot of threats to appear mean, but that's because she's scared of being hurt, whether emotionay of physically, first. As a child she tried to fit in but continuously failed (think back to MK's story about Susie wanting to play kickball with them, but messing up and breaking something). She isn't really mean, just trying to be imposing

I think Susie is actually dragon/normal. She is just a normal kid trying to fit in. She wants friends, and she acts polite towards Ms. Toriel, and she dislikes school. She also loves food, something associated with several normal type pokemon (as opposed to being made of food or appearing do, usually linked to other types like fairy, grass, or ice). She is another hurt kid playing bully, but she's not actually bad.

In the Darkworld, however, she is a dragon/fighting type. Fighting type could also be seen as the "justice" type. Sure, it's linked to the act of fighting and different fighting styles and techniques, but it's also associated with everything a dark type is not. Honour, rule-following, justice; that's why the Swords of Justice in Pokemon are part all fighting type. If dark types are the villains, then fighting types are the superheroes. That's why fighting type is staring against dark types; good always prevails over evil. And Susie, while she acts tough, only attacks when she really feels threatened. She attacked the "enemies" in the Darkworld because they attacked first. Then, she made the effort to be good and, if she's led down the right path, actively tries to be good before being "betrayed" by Lancer (who she can't actually bring herself to kill!). Then there's the King. He is ACTUALLY evil. He is wrathful, and threatens the life of his own son, Susie's friend, to take down his enemies. He tricks them into healing them before attacking mercilessly, even though he was shown mercy. HE is a pure dark type. But Susie only fights when she thinks she has to, and she fought to save the lives of her friends in both Chapters. She IS a hero, someone who fights for peace and love, not brutality.

So, there's my arguments. But none of this is final, I just wanted to actually argue my point this time instead of just listing stuff with no basis lol

Alright I guess I need to clarify. This week I was to attend a workshop at McMaster for Storytelling in Multimedia, with collaboration from a partner group working with sound and sonification. I was hoping to get some insight into telling my story as I have tried so much myself in the past. This was not part of my animation classes I would never give that up, on something like this. They dont start until Sept. This was to help me get a little insight. 

     The first day they dropped this entire concept. Instead of storytelling, we were working on projects that the "teachers" found interesting. That meant that my story may have to wait. I did understand all of the concepts the master speakers were discussing . I did not understand the digital programing conversations. The group were amazing people with different and shared backgrounds in many ways. I could see them having major connections to each other within the fields they were a part of. I did share my idea. As a group meeting exercise, Zoey got out there and the group were all very supportive and interested. That was the great part of this. My fear to show others and accept that they like it was again tested and I felt ok about it.  We all are asked to present a "project" on our concept at the end of the week, in a theater setting. (Today). 

 The next day with that in mind I tried to figure out what to do. Most of the group fitted together with the skills they shared. It was suggested that I could work on my own and make a storyboard. I was very excited because I would finally get some useful knowledge about storyboarding from someone other than Google. The assistant teacher, tried using the learning technique of using “could” to make ideas happen. I have done that to death and expressed that.  However, because cant express myself properly, I was given the advice to “just do whatever you feel”. “Go online and get some examples from Google” “you just got to jump in and do it” was suggested as well. I get that. I have heard that. It is not helpful. I then tried to get the idea across about how to make a storyboard. b I need to write a script. I asked how do I approach that? You need to write dialogue. I said great how do I do that? Conceptualize the characters and think about what they feel and how they think. Which is more of where he wanted the conversation to go. As what typically happens in this kind of collaboration, is that is becomes less about my concept and more about how to modify that concept. Now, I have that concept we were discussing, and it’s all worked out. I would have liked to have figured out a way to communicate this with him but people again say I am being difficult so I stop. To me, it is keeping the integrity of my concept, over the feelings of inclusion for someone other than my work. Sigh, I really just wanted a quick, simplified way to approach a storyboard so I could communicate my idea. I was left to my own devices because this comes off as me being “difficult”. Using my hate for the concept of “could” and the infinite possibility of could without the” I will/ I am” after it, I made a crude game. Now I had something at least to show, even if it felt negative. Like giving the bird to someone. 

    The next day we again were left on our own to record sounds. I have no use for that skill yet but it was interesting as someday DarkWorld will need sounds. Because the other members had worked out what they wanted to do within their groups, they were very busy with each other. I got to talk to many of them and even the other group members from the sound concepts, would chat with me. They again are amazing. The masterclass was on body awareness in itself, space and in the digital art world.I made a mistake with this. I forgot my chronic pain. I wanted to participate and became aware of the inner workings of my body. The pain level I keep at 7 went to 9.5 in an instant. I have to ignore my body the pain it generates constantly in order to manage myself. After this spike of pain  was not able to participate with the rest of the group. My pain was misinterpreted as hesitation by a kind person. I did need to tell someone I could not be a part of this experience, which as typical, was met with loss of understanding.  After the next master speaker we were again back to working on our concepts. Without knowing what to do with either project, I was again lost. I had DarkWorld and some kind of game I was not into. With nowhere to really go with my ideas. I was very sad about this and sat working on nothing for the rest of the day. 

  I was again choosing to leave the past day behind. I still had nothing I wanted to do, and no way to use DarkWorld to communicate. The speaker was giving us insight into types of people and how they work together in groups in a project setting. I have seen this kind of dynamic work in the group setting many times. The only point I did not agree with was that the four kinds of people in this concept were never within a single person. However, cosplayers are the embodiment of that idea. They conceptualize, innovate, experiment and produce their ideas. After this, I had more great conversations with the other members of both groups. I got to touch on what they were working with and even talked anime. Then we went back to work. This topic was on citizing each other's work in a healthy and respectful way. A system of colored “hat” cards to give us a way to give feedback on our projects. I again understood this, and had no project to critique, or better yet, no game I cared enough about to have meaning in the feedback. So I left  2 hours early after sitting alone in my mind for the same amount of time. I came home on the bus, stuck in my mind, getting more depressed as I got closer to home. I couldn't draw, play games, watch anything, because I had nothing. I got in and right away, slept until the next day.

     This was Thursday, and I was not moving on DarkWorld. I took the idea to just work on my stuff as if I was at home. I brought my laptop and drawing tablet, all my ideas in my sourcebook, hoping I could figure out something to show everyone. I sat uncomfortably. With nothing. I did not have the comfort of my workspace. If I had been given insight into how to approach the story making aspect of this workshop I could have followed that path and branched out creatively from that seed. I would have had something I could have communicated with everyone and had feedback I could use. I did not have that though. Up to and even after that days master class on the visual representation of sonic images and the sound of nano object as an expression I felt lost in tech language. I liked the concept but again, I dont know the math or software that is the language these artists speak. I approached the program director, I was filled with fear to do this, and let them know that I was not feeling the connection to this class.  They accepted this.I said that the expericance of sharing my work was scary but a good feeling too. They said that they were glad that I took something from this workshop, whatever that maybe. They suggested that I stay as a fly on the wall and that the group was glad to have me there. I was “in a safe space” which was an odd statement. I never felt anyone didn’t want me there or that I was “unsafe” but I was too emotional to say that. I asked if maybe my fear was getting the better of me because I was looking for a reason to overcome that fear. They were vague about their opinion on that idea, which is typical. I then suggested I go for a break outside and come back refreshed. Anything I could think of to stay. Thankfully they agreed it might help. So I tried everything I could think of to get my spark going. I sat outside, medicated myself, felt the movement of the wind, watched the grass dance, let the sun warm my skin. I used music to inspire me. I used visualization of bio matter gel to shape my ideas., Nothing worked. I went back to the “Lab” hoping that I could at least get through the day. I could not. I left after sitting for half and hour doing nothing but hating myself for not being able to find a place and belong. I could not communicate. I was lost, sad, but accepted and encouraged to go wherever I felt. 

Today, I could not stand in front of these amazing people and tell them I could not be part of their world. I can't say that I did not understand what was expected of me in a place that has no expectations. I want so badly to be a part of that place because I felt warm there, within my mind and my soul. Which I have not felt before. Even now I am overwhelmed by sadness and my voice is useless to my heart. My inability to connect with others is a sadness consumes me. I never learned how to say “can I play with you guys?” I dont romanticize these people, I look up to them as they are. I feel I can’t go back. I dont belong yet. I might soon. When I have knowledge. For now, I think I will be small. I will be quite. I will go in myself again. I can not say these words, I dont have the ability to communicate that way.  I left for those amazing people a small note. A hope, that I expressed to them that I loved that expricance because of them. I wish so much to meet them again, and to be able to communicate with them and work with them in my future. I was vague in my sadness yesterday when I wrote about my day. Because I expressed my excitement about this workshop here, I wanted to make sure I followed up with what happened and how I experienced it. I do not regret this experience. I learned a lot about art, how groups work, and myself. I only feel sad because I was not able to fully experience it.

For the dark world design things, I like the sprite where they all become kids but like, did this take place earlier or they all just be like Chara and tranform into their younger self?

Because both didn't really make sense since if it's the first, the story would ended earlier and you have to redraw the arc after to make them younger which probably isn't good for uhh, time probably, or Chara thought after this adventure like, few years later after it ended which isn't realistic, if it's the latter then that mean all of them want to be younger... which probabpy isn't that unrealistic but it would make Chara's situation not unique or special to their situation or whatever, or it mean the dark world work different... which is possible actually but why would G man make a world that make everyone that get in it become superpowered children, what if younger kid or adult get in?

Or maybe they all got in before as a kid and this is the sprite for that, or you just make the younger design as a joke or because you want and I overthink it

NAH you're fine lmao sorry i should of clarified this. i'm still unsure about it.

my logic was chara made the darkworld so it's influenced by their desire -but you're right, the outfits themselves seem separate from that. it's more customized to the individual, same as how Ralsei's castle and Queen's mansions become personalized. The world itself is influenced by Noelle (I assume she accidently made it? but also Kris could of been the one to do so... the world fits Noelle more) And becoming a kid is A Thing with Noelle for like, 1 second, so this isn't even out of the realm of possiblities.

And ALSO yeah, this world is (probably) made from a gaster fragment or at least houses one, it's separate from Deltarune the game and it's canon. I'm not even sure this IS a darkworld or if it's a simulation of one. (maybe the CORE secretly powers a pocket universe that Gaster made? that Chara accidently connects to and drags the gang into)

Actually i was about to do a write up of pros/cons but i realized making them all kids is a bad idea. it just doesn't work.

cause like, I wanted them all to be kids to keep it consistent between them, but you're right it makes it less special/shocking when chara is Baby. (thinking this time around, we follow Frisk first and then meet with Chara.) anyway i wanted this because the main conflict is that Chara is wanting to force everyone to relive the past, so making Frisk a Baby and relieve their memories isn't a happy thing like it is to Chara.

BUT that happens when Chara True Resets anyway! I feel that'd lose a LOT of significance because we get used to Frisk being a teenager by the time we get to that story point. Also like, the reverse makes a fun effect of "oh YEAH Chara is a teenager! I got used to baby chara again!"

so yeah. i can't justify it and it lessens plot/thematic elements. Plus, its too repetive, even if I think it'd make it more clear what Frisk's problem with reliving the past is like

actually, I can do that with the reset thign too. Cause Frisk HATED being attacked by monsters and Chara's kinda forgotten about that since. So I'm gonna show them fight a lil before they confront Flowey.

Frisk's bard aspect (which like, is based on how I introduced teenage frisk with Vocaloid, this outfit is loosely inspired by that)

Anyway I need to establish more of their story BUT I think the designs should reflect them more (like you pointed out!) like, originally, Frisk was going to have this side plot over befriending Suzy (their universe version of Susie) that was, sadly, dropped because Susie was stuck with Kris and it made more sense for Chara to stay away from Frisk after the DW adventure (cause Chara broke their promise)

BUT now i have the chance to actually explore that! So now, Frisk takes the adventure with MK to be a fun game and a chance to befriend Suzy. I really want Frisk's adventure to be separate from Chara's journey, because Frisk being mopey was Defs over done in the OG, and it makes it more impactful when Frisk gets upset if they're more happy the rest of the time.

Frisk still hates fighting (god. i'm gonna have to design a bunch of enemies...) but since they're not alone (and being haunted by chara), they don't mind it nearly as much. the Vibes of Deltarune (where most enemies just want to capture you) vs. UT (where most enemies are trying to kill you) are so drastically different. Frisk would be SO happy about this change.

heheheheheheheheh I thought it was gonna be a one part thing and then I just kept going

Lmao ‘the only thing he had left to do was confess to you’

He said that like it’s easy or smthn

He wasn’t quite sure how to tell you

He hadn’t known you for a really long time, so he didn’t know all of your likes and dislikes

But he did know some of them

He knew that you only liked some of the chocolates that came in the Valentine’s box, so you’d pick those out and leave the rest

He knew that you liked sleeping with one extra blanket because the sheets are cold when you first get in and you wanted to be warm right away

He knew that you almost always wore really big shirts or hoodies to bed, and he also knew that you stole some of his when you were doing the laundry

You said that they smelled like him and that he smelled really nice

He knew that Disney movies made you cry

Who don’t they make cry

And he knew that you were somewhat embarrassed to be crying so you leaned back in your seat pretending to be bored but actually wiping the tears off your face

He came up with a plan

He got Toy Story 3 up on Netflix

The saddest movie besides lion king tbh

And went to the local candy store

He bought a mix of ONLY the chocolates you liked

And made sure to wash the biggest fluffiest blanket in the house so that it would be extra fluffy and smell really nice

He also wore one hoodie every day for an entire week so that there was no way it wouldn’t smell like him

He had heard you talking over the phone to your boss but it seemed like more of a one-sided conversation, because every time you tried to speak, you cut yourself off and went silent and listened

He had also found you up at 3am the previous night because of some dumb work project 

So he knew that you’d be extra tired

Extra tired = extra emotional

When you got home from work he greeted you at the door with the blanket and his hoodie

“You’ve been really really stressed from work lately, so I thought I’d try and help you relax. It’s a Friday night and you’re off tomorrow, so go get changed and come back out.”

He pushed his hoodie into your hands and wrapped the blanket around himself

You almost cried right then tbh

You smiled at him and took the hoodie

You went to your room and changed into it and a pair of comfy sweatpants

He heard your soft little footsteps coming down the hallway

You had wiped off your makeup but you still looked amazing, even more than before

You greeted him with a weak but sincere smile and flopped onto the couch

He pulled you into a sitting position and wrapped the blanket around you too

The blanket was big enough to fit at least one more person but he pretended to not have enough room so that he could huddle next to you

Your head rested on his shoulder and he pressed play

“Oh not Toy Story 3! It’s the saddest one!”

“Well I got you chocolate, does that make up for it?”

“Partially.”

You grabbed the chocolate and popped it into your mouth

You were already tearing up while Andy was packing for college you weren’t doing so well

“Why didn’t the mom just look inside the bag?! This all would have been fine if she had just looked!”

You had managed to not cry throughout most of the movie

You came close during Big Baby’s backstory 

The sweetest child

But when they’re all, oh you know, slowly moving towards a fiery death in a dump and they all look at each other and grab hands

You lost it

You slumped forwards and buried your face in your hands

He was expecting emotional but not this

This was bad

He didn’t know what to do with this

He rubbed your back and paused the movie

“It’s just fake! And remember, they make it out in the end!”

You looked at him with tears streaming down your face

“It’s just so sad in the moment.”

He took a real big chance and uncrossed his legs, sliding you inbetween them

He wrapped an arm around your chest and had you lay back against him

Your head was level with his

You barely noticed until you felt his bReAtH on the side of your face

You turned and nearly bumped noses with him

You two just stared into each other’s eyes for a second

“Hey Tom?”

“Yeah?”

“You wanna finish making it up to me?”

His lips were on yours in two seconds flat

It wasn’t rough, just passionate

It was a somewhat short kiss, you broke away for air and laid your head back on his shoulder

“I love you Y/N.”

“I love you too Tom.”

Okay this works for either Remus or Bucky but sister!reader (or psuedo-sister, borderline daughter) in bucky's case) prepares a little garden for her brother. She knows he feels like he's a destructive monster, but this is something he can look after and watch it grow and flourish whilst also being a perfect little hideaway when things get too much. I’ll do little headcanons for both

REMUS LUPIN

Okay so yeah once a month he grows fur and claws and fangs

And rampages through the forest wanting to kill almost everything he sees

If the boys weren’t there with him to distract him and were wear him out he’d really be killing creatures

And for such a sweet boy like him

It really makes him doubt himself as a person

But as his sister

You know that he’s the best person you know

He’s a better person than most non-werewolves are so lmao

You decide that you’re planting him a garden

You ask Hagrid for some plant fertilizer

Magical of course

And you ask Dumbledore for a spot of land that’s hidden somewhere where it can only be found by Remus

He leads you to almost the very end of the Hogwarts boundary line and points to a little clearing

“Students aren’t allowed over here but I will permit you, your brother, and your circle of friends because I admire what you’re doing.”

You get to planting

You plant some strawberries, some carrots, some cucumbers, some pumpkins, some peas, lettuce, everything

You also plant some daisies, some roses, some tulips, any flower seeds that you could find steal from Professor Sprout

You planted them and gave them just enough time to begin to sprout

And then it was his birthday because you know how tf to plan things

You bring him out around midday

He’s whining about being dragged so far but you have to take him so you very kindly tell your big brother to shut tf up

“We’re here”

He looks around and doesn’t really notice the little sprouts

“What do you mean?”

“There”

You point to the little plot of land that you’d been tending to lately

“I made you a garden.”

“A garden?”

You lead him to the plot of land and sit in between a few of the plants

“I know that sometimes you just want to get away from everyone and that sometimes you feel like a monster and while I assure you that’s not true, I figured that tending to a garden and keeping it alive and growing something might help you feel better about yourself. I placed a charm around it so that only you, me, James, and Sirius can get in. I know you might not want them in here so I haven’t told them about it. But if you want to, you can tell them and bring them here. Like I said, I don’t agree with your self-hate but I figured that you needed something to help you build your confidence and self-worth again. Happy Birthday.”

Tears were streaming down his face and he pulled you into the strongest hug you’d ever had

“Thank you Y/N. Really. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. It means so much to me that you’d even do something like this. I love you.”

You smiled and just hugged your brother like it was just a nice wholesome hug

He goes down there to tend to his garden at least once a day and brings you food from there all the time

He likes hanging out there with you :’)

BUCKY BARNES

He tries not to show emotion because he’s afraid of it

But you know that he for sure loves you

Because he tells you a lot

He wants to make sure that you know

Because he knows that he’s not the most expressive person

And as your father figure he doesn’t want to make you feel like he doesn’t love you

You decide that for his birthday you’re going to do something special

You asked Tony for permission to turn one of his empty labs into a greenhouse

He agreed bc he thought it was for you lmao

You got to work planting vegetables, fruits, flowers, just every plant that you can fit 

You hid the room for around a week before the plants started to sprout and show in the dirt

His suspicions are raised bc you keep running off and you stay wherever you are for hours

He’s afraid that some boy was with you

He’s on the verge of yelling at you for your possible boyfriend when you come into his room

It’s like eight o’clock in the morning on his birthday but he’s awake

You drag him out of his bed in his pajamas still

You led him through the halls and down to an empty lab

He was rlly confused

“Y/N, what are you doi-”

He stops and stares at the inside of the room that’s just full of dirt and little plant sprouts

“What is this?”

“You worry me sometimes. I know that you think you’re a bad person and i really don’t think so, but I can’t control your thoughts. But, by caring for something and keeping it alive, you’ll hopefully see that you’re an amazing person who is capable of love and deserves it back. I’m hoping that watching these plants grow under your care makes you realize how great of a person you are, or at least that you’re not the monster you say you are. And I know that you like being alone too, you can do that here. No one knows about this, Tony gave me permission to use the space but he doesn’t know what it’s really for. I really hope you like it.”

He can’t say anything, he’s completely speechless

He’s not great with words but actions speak louder and as he pulled you into his arms for a hug

And you realized that he used his metal arm to grab you which he never does

Says he’ll hurt you

You realize that he’s gonna be okay

And that you’re gonna be there for him the entire way

I think he took them for granted at first

He didn’t really pay close attention to them

He was more focused on you as a whole

But once you guys started getting serious

He found himself staring at you for long periods of time

And this one time

you caught him

And your eyes got kinda wide

And he watched as your eyes began to sparkle bc you were smiling at how cute he was

And he noticed how the glasses complimented your face

He noticed how they made your eyes even more soulful and doe-like than they already were

And he realized that they fit you perfectly? 

Like they were just so you

He started to notice the little things that he loved about you were all bc of your glasses

When you reached up in the middle of saying smthn and pushed your glasses onto your face again bc they slid down a bit

The concentrated look on your face when you had to take them off to wipe them clean

All the lil things he loved about you were due to your glasses

And he really appreciated them after that tbh

He admires them on you 24/7 now :’)
