Hot take: The talking Animals in Wicked are a better metaphor for marginalized communities than the Mutants in X-Men.
Yeah, I know that in the Marvel Universe most of the Mutants aren't as powerful as the X-Men, but they keep adding so many Mutants with god-like powers that it's hard to believe this community can be realistically oppressed by everyday humans.
To be fair, this is true to all other productions that try to use super or magic powers as a metaphor for being in a oppressed community.
Remember those films that put the obviously attractive actors in plain or just ugly clothing to say that these characters are plain?
The super powers as a metaphor for marginalization is this but with a whole group or race.
But the Animals in Wicked are different.
They are not powerful, they are not special, they are not glamorous. They are not the dreamy characters that the audience wants to project themselves into.
Being an animal doesn't give you good looks or superhuman abilities. Being an animal doesn't make your life easy, especially when you live in a society dominated by humans.
First, they don't look human at all, which turns easier to demonize and scapegoat them. They are almost a too easy target for humiliation and ostracism.
And second, the fact that most of them lack hands with opposable thumbs, means that the whole infrastructure of Oz has to be adapted in order for them to live in society. This puts them into a disabled category, and we all know how cold and even downright malicious a society can act towards anyone with a disability.
Also, I love how Wicked: Part I casts the humans.
There are POC EVERYWHERE, and this serves this message about prejudice and systematic oppression in several ways.
Not only this avoids typecasting POC as the perfect victims to appease white guilt, it shows that nobody is immune to propaganda.
It shows that ANYONE can be perpetrator of systemic violence. No one is immune to be part of oppressed or to be part of the oppression of others.

Laughing Jack Headcanons Part 2
this is literally my character app lmfao I've been coming up with ideas about him since I started fangirling (badly) for him again so let's go.
* . °•★|•°∵ ∵°•|☆•° . *
(gif/animation by @/ijustwannahavefun)
┊͙✧˖*°࿐
★。\|/。★
⛧ Laughing Jack is essentially corrupted by Lucifer to be used as a weapon to obtain his vengeance on God for casting him out. When an angel was traveling the Jack-in-the-Box to Isaac, Lucifer sent one of his demons to attack the angel and put a "curse" on the box. This could explain why Laughing Jack-even before Isaac abandoned him-seemed to be murderous as he mutilated a cat when him and Isaac were playing outside.
⛧ LJ does have more of an "virtuous" voice. He has a gentle, almost father like, voice. It's usually for when he wants engage with someone he genuinely likes or if he wants to calm someone down. However, don't let this deceive you as it could be because of manipulation. Once he starts showing his true motives, his voice would become more sinister.
(His "innocent" voice headcanon that being Sebastian Michaelis: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OgBWOTtTp4Q)
(His "malicious" voice headcanon that being Alex Brightman's Beetlejuice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMrt9demNeA)
⛧ He takes interest in porcelain harlequin dolls. He was first introduced into making them around the late 1900s when he was targeting one of his victims and their brother was a merchant for harlequin dolls. Obviously LJ killed his victim and the brother because they were scamming and being evil by abusing their nephews and based on his new hobby, he captured their souls and sealed them in two porcelain harlequin dolls he created. They are both in a small, glass display in on of LJ's carnival tents.
⛧ Relating back to the previous one, Laughing Jack doesn't kill innocent children or people for that matter. Sure, he may scare or tease you, but he would never lay a finger on you unless if you are that of vile soul. Especially if you abuse children.
⛧ Laughing Jack loves studying astronomy. Whenever he walks outside on a full moon with stars aligned in the night sky, he would always wonder what it'll be like to travel across the galaxy. He even thought about if there's other life forms on different planets. This can explain why he is more stronger magic wise during the full moon period.
⛧ He is also a writer. When he began writing was as the same time Isaac was still being homeschooled. He learned how to do cursive writing. He would definitely write letters either warning someone about the dangers that lie ahead of them or would write a threatening one to his victim.
⛧ Laughing Jack has photophobia or has sun-sensitive eyes. This is most likely because he has been stuck in a dark, enclosed area for almost 13 years. He can technically be in sunlight but he'll have discomfort. So if you want to get away from him just shine a really bright flashlight in his eyes. One of the people Laughing Jack was protecting noticed this and offered him a pair of their old glasses because they had the same condition. LJ does wear them but only when no one can see his as he doesn't want to seem "vulnerable."
⛧ He is also very...old fashion. He prefers listening to music by a vinyl and a record player and doesn't understand the concept of technology or what the new generation is into. He is also very concerned about the "Get Alpha" slang...
⛧ If Laughing Jack gets stabbed or has one of his limbs cut off he could easily attach it back by sewing that area with just needle and thread and wrap it with his iconic bandages and it'll function like normal.
⛧ He loves the snow. Especially when it's at night. He finds it very magical and would take someone out with him to a snowy forest so they could have a walk and talk to each other about their deepest feelings.
⛧ His scent is that of a victoria sponge cake. It is actually a strong smell that you probably wouldn't even think it came from him.
⛧ For funnies, yes Laughing Jack does know all of the Sanrio characters.

This reminds me of a video I watched by Rachel Oates, called 'How much does intent matter in Art?' that covers this nicely. She discusses a theory I learned about in Media studies called 'the medium is the message', by Marshall McLuhan, which, suggests, to put simply, that art or media (including books) are encoded with messages, and views, even if you don't realise it, and when the audience consumes them, they decode it, and perceive it. While she doesn't mention SJM or her books, applying the theory to poetry to try and educate people about intention and outcome in art.
Rachel basically explains (better than me, since I'll keep it short for brevity) that if an artist, of any kind, hones and utilises the techniques and skills that come with their craft well, then the audience perceives the message as intended. However, if they utilise their techniques poorly, then the audience will intemperate a different message.
You can still like it, enjoy it, or say you personally think it's really good, because art is inherently subjective, but searching for techniques and their utilisation in art is how a critique critiques them. It's why critique review and audience review of movies and tv shows differ. A critique rates it based on cinematography, writing, directing, and a other factors that may very depending on if it's a tv show, live action animation, etc. Meanwhile audiences rate it on entertainment, relatability, and how impactful it is, etc.
Of course, objective critiques can be argued, with evidence. One person could take a quote from any of the ACOTAR books and use it to argue why ACOTAR is a feminist story, while someone else could take a different, or even the same quote, and argue otherwise, with the artist's intention becoming irrelevant.
Rachel, also explains, art needs to be able to stand on it's own, without needing background about the artist or other context, for it to have meaning or to affect people, to which I agree. Especially in this context.
Take the hike scene. SJM intended it for it to be therapeutic, and healing for Nesta, while others, myself included, argue that it was poorly written at best, and example of abuse at worst. Often, people use SJM's real life hike to argue this point. However, if that context is needed for the scene to stand, then it was't well executed. At best it show's SJM's lack of skill, and usage of structure, plot and techniques, with a lack of true understanding of depression, and the state of mind people are in when they consider taking their own life, and at worst, it shows a very dangerous mindset surrounding the aforementioned subjects.
The point Rachel ultimately makes, is that intention doesn't matter if art, including literature, is offensive, or harmful.
If SJM failed to send the feminist message her books were advertised for having, then her intent doesn't amount to much. If someone is offended by your art, or criticises it for the way it handles certain subject matter, then that reflects a lack of skill on the author's part, at best. At worst, it reflects dangerous ideals and mindsets.
It's also important to understand that many people have different upbringings, and life experiences, which is another reason that there are such different interpretations of art. Every character in her books have said or done things worthy of criticism, some more than others. SJM has said, done and written things that need to be criticised, her handling of race, colonisation and slavery, to name a couple, outside of just how she botched feminism and abuse.
There are victims who relate to Feyre, Mor, Rhys, etc. There are victims who relate more to Nesta, Tamlin, Eris, etc. There are victims who condemn SJM's books and characters in their entirety. There are people, who aren't victims, that relate to Azriel, Emerie, Elain, tc. There are people, who aren't victims, that relate to Viviane, Tarquin, Gwyn, etc. There are people, who aren't victims, that condemn SJM and her writing in their entirety.
However, if SJM is called out for offending people, be it marginalised communities, women in general, or victims, then it's worth apologising, reevaluating why and trying to improve her craft to prevent doing so again. Also, editors and sensitivity readers wouldn't go amis, especially in stories that try to use themes of slavery, racial and gendered discrimination.
To wrap this up, SJM's intent doesn't matter. If people are offended, she needs to take accountability, apologise, and try to do better next time. Given her consistent failure to use incorporate race and slavery into her books in a way that handles the topics with the respect they deserve, I'd say she's failed on all three fronts there. In fact, it become clear that racial and queer representation are half-assed just to give her plausible deniability. If people like it, she can take the credit, if not she can deny it.
Ultimately, art is subjective. Just because she receives criticism, doesn't mean you have to hate it. You're free to have your opinions, but don't be rude, cruel, or otherwise bully others for theirs.
If you're going to try have a discussion with me about these books then I need you to bare in mind that I base absolutely none of my opinions or analyses on SJMs intentions
I have 0 faith that that woman even recognizes the absolutely horrid things she has written nevermind that she intends to actually go into much depth with any of it (Rhysand's abuse, the IC dynamics, the terrible ruling system, retcon retcon retcon for days, the Illyrians, Nesta etc). And people can say that's misogynistic if they want, I do not care. She has shown absolutely no evidence that she doesn't have her head completely encased by the Inner Circles asses or that that and her inability to self insert hasn't completely skewed the way she writes this series so sue me. I don't even believe she fully understands the characters she has written, it's as if she has written so much retconning and gaslighting behaviour in this story that she's somehow managed to gaslight herself at this stage
So anyway my opinions and my interpretations of the characters are based on their actions in the text not what SJM intended for them to convey or whatever bullshit she has the IC spout and if that's what you like to follow that's fine but go be a sheep somewhere else because I won't engage with it I'm sorry (not really)

buckle up, I'm gonna bitch about Arcane season 2 for a while.
disclaimer: the animation and art direction is absolutely stellar, writing and voice acting is mostly solid, music ranges from good to amazing, sound design is great, and it's a great show overall.
HOWEVER:
There were so many interesting subplots and ideas, but not one of them had enough room to breathe or time to develop organically.
(spoilers under cut)
Caitlyn - I love the subplot about her becoming a fascist dictator and Ambessa's pupil, I really do. But then it sort of fizzled? She faced no repercussions for installing a police state and using chemical weaponry against civilians? The last one got to me especially - her mother built this system claiming that "the people of Undercity deserve to breathe" and Caitlyn then turned it against them. Okay, Vi and Jinx both called her out and it left to her rift with Vi, but... she's still in charge at the end, having seemingly learned no lessons?
Vi - uh, she was there. Sort of. Most of the time. Again, she joined the Enforcers, and it led to SOME conflict, but... is she going back to being an Enforcer? how does she feel about that? Who knows - Vi was mostly there for Cait and Jinx's subplots than her own.
Jinx - her subplot with Sevika and Isha was my second favourite thing about this season. The idea of her becoming a symbol and uniting Zaun is great. That little moment in the prison was awesome. But, ultimately - it didn't amount to much. Her sacrificing her life for Vi (or not, I don't know if she actually dies) didn't hit as much because we already knew she was actively suicidal.
Isha - had the potential to be super annoying, but like I said, I ended up really liking her character. Her death rubbed me the wrong way, however - it was very emotional, but the framing was very strange. Were we supposed to find it inspirational? Tragic but beautiful? Proof that Jinx isn't irredeemable?
Sevika - again: loved her, loved her interactions with Jinx and Isha.
Silco - I found it weird how this season consistently framed him as a good guy. Jinx and Sevika remember him fondly, he was the only thing holding Zaun together, there are cute flashbacks / AU versions of him and Vander being happy... he's a complex character and we love him for it, but let's not forget his many, many crimes.
Singed - kinda weird that he got what he wanted with no repercussions.
Mel - all right, her subplot bothered me perhaps most of all. Mel is a joy every time she's on screen, true, but last season she had been established as a savvy politician and businesswoman, motivated by her mommy issues, and a corrupting presence on Jayce. She pushed for progress at all costs to fulfil her own ambitions and prove something to her mother. That's a great setup! But what we got in s2 is... random superpowers out of nowhere. Mel always had power - she was the richest woman in Pilltover and basically ran its Council - but now instead of confronting her with the potential side-effects of Hextech, the consequences of her ambitions, and the futility of proving herself to her abusive warmongering mother, she just gets... more power. Out of nowhere. And validation from Ambessa. It was just weird.
Jayce and Viktor - easily the most compelling part of this season, and my favourite subplot. And STILL - it felt rushed and incoherent. I thought at first that Viktor would become jealous and resentful because Jayce is everything that he isn't, and I am honestly so glad they didn't take that route. But instead, Viktor gets... brainwashed by the Hexcore I guess? Ascends to a higher plane of existence? His Jesus Days and his cults were fascinating, but I didn't get the philosophy behind them at all. I can see why Viktor would want to shed his physical body for a machine that has none of its weakness, and how he might convince others to follow that path, but instead he chose to brainwash his followers and then assimilate the entire human race? What? There were so, so many potential sources of conflict between himself and Jayce - the Hextech weaponry Jayce built, Pilltover's fascist takeover of the Undercity, Jayce reviving him against his will and not destroying the Hexcore, accidentally poisoning Ekko's tree through their irresponsible use of Hextech... but the conflict we got didn't built on any of that. And I don't understand why.
(But I get you, Jayce/Viktor shippers. You won this round.)

Hiii Tumblr I haven’t posted in forever hahaha
Anyways, I will be posting more now, but here’s a long rant of sorts.
I’ve been actively keeping up with a lot of new shows lately, (a first for me since I usually get overwhelmed) and one of those shows is Hazbin Hotel. I really love the show so far, the songs, the characters, and the animation is amazing. Don’t get me wrong, the show has its flaws, but so does every show.
However on thing that greatly greatly frustrates me is the fact that I feel like I’ve barely spend any time with the characters and we are already at the climax. I really wish we got filler episodes, and just fun goofy stuff that didn’t exactly have big plot moments but we learned more about the characters. It also would have been cool to have hints of big plot moments sprinkled in these episodes, clues for us to try and figure out.
It’s been basically six months in the shows timeline and for us it’s been a little over two weeks. I know a show’s timeline will often move faster than ours, BUT TWO WEEKS TO THEIR SIX MONTH WHAT
I am in no way blaming the cast, the crew, and anyone who worked on the show, it’s clear that there is so so much love being put into this project. That actually makes me more upset because I know they would’ve loved to do more episodes!
I wish streaming services would give shows like Hazbin more time. I know they want to see if a show can "prove itself" and don't want to waste money, but come on. Eight twenty minute episodes.
Lord, I'm just frustrated.
#this is especially true for animated shows#I just ughhhhh#I needed to put this into words#hazbin hotel#vivziepop#hazbin charlie#charlie morningstar#prime video

Praying to god that Wild Kratts has an episode centered around gharials because I'm still not over how they referred to them as crocodiles (of which they are in the same order, but not species) and resulted in one of the most confusing (yet aesthetically pleasing) tidbits of lore involving the Creature Power Suits, and I can't be the only one who had to do extensive research on gharials for myself right?
#wild kratts#pbs kids#kratt brothers#martin kratt#chris kratt#pbs kids go#2d kratt brothers#2d martin kratt#2d chris kratt#I'll give them leeway the first season came out in 2011#So i'll take it as the info being outdated#But yeah gharials (especially false gharials depicted in the series) are in the same order as crocodiles + are related to such#but are NOT true crocodiles. The same applies to alligators and caimains#I lowkey think even the show might be aware that they got that bit of biology wrong#Cause it hasn't been since Season 3 did we see any of the Crocodillian-inspired suits#And it hasn't been since Season 2 did we see the Nile crocodile variant that was the very first CPS to appear in the show#Since S7 is taking featuring a lot of S1 callbacks with suits/animals/habitats#I'd love to see them explore the differences between gharials and crocodiles in a future episode

I'm actually going to go more in-depth on this because why the hell not?
I found a screenshot from Dad Beat Dad that shows them close enough, and here it really does look like Alastor's hands are bigger.
But it's also a bad angle because Lucifer's fingers are curled around his cane. Taking the screenshots in my last post into consideration, their palms are relatively the same size (Luci's are a bit thinner), but look at those fingers.
Alastor's fingers look so dainty and thin compared to Lucifer's, especially near the tips. You could pass this off as inconsistencies in the animation, but I really don't think that's the case.
LOOK AT THOSE BIG ASS FINGIES.
Plus, a few more Alastor hands for good measure.
Am I seeing things? Most likely. But a guy can dream, okay? (Also, I literally could care less on what's true and what's not, I enjoy the radioapple size difference content, lmao)
I have seen SO many posts about the radioapple size difference and "small hands Lucifer" this and "large hands Alastor that" and I just have to say..
Look at them, really look at them. They are the same size if not bigger. I might be delusional, and I know they don't have enough screen time together to really tell who's hands are bigger, and it really couldn't matter less, but I wanna believe.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk

Hey does tyvson or ganso have voice actors?? (Or had) If so I'd really like to hear their voice! (Also I love ur art)
TyV's voice actor is his original namesake, an old friend named Ty. While most characters at this point I feel have evolved to a degree where their voices have probably shifted away from their original casting, I don't think TyV's voice would ever change from his original actor. They're just too intertwined in my head!!! Unfortunately I do not have any clips of his voice to share u_u.
El Ganso does not have a voice actor, he was made far far after the original voice casting. Like, nearly a decade later lol.
It'd be fun one day to have voice actors for them all again. I think if that happened, it'd be fun to make short voice acted animations again.
#honestly ive spent so much time practicing theatrics in animating to songs#i feel like animating short non-song clips would be a breeze#i am often stunned by how long some scenes in shows out there are just. the same pose for like 1 minute#while they talk and nothing else#I could do this..... i know i can........#brambleramble#but yeah most characters especially after aging them up so many times#would have different voices than they did when they were first made#& again some never had actors#elliot ofc never had one#I don't think Holly had one at least not his true form#some mimes sound different in true vs host#so i know some of them never got cast#blah blah blah

I just wanna say that. there’s something incredibly morbid and gross about the fact that bones took away literally the only thing Sigma had to his name before the casino: his past. And not only his past itself, but his right to narrate his own past. Instead, the TWO lines they do keep about it (about him naming himself Sigma, and finally finding his one place to call home, the casino).... are given to Fyodor to say. Fyodor, his most recent manipulator in a long, long line of manipulators.
And not even just his past, but by extension so many of his strong, strong emotions about himself and what he’s been through and how they’ve made him into the person he is now: his fear, his sorrow, his desperation, his determination, his righteous indignation. His pain. The majority of that is all gone from the anime.
Sigma barely has a story of his own; his past, his suffering, and his emotions are the only things he has claim to, that make him who he is. And bones took even those away from him. Flattening him into an empty piece of paper, ironically, just like he was born from and as.
#bungou stray dogs#sigma#if you can't tell i'm mad lol#just like everyone else is#and will continue to be mad for a long long time#also in this same category: bones dehumanizing dazai by always cutting the moments where he shows true human emotion/vulnerability#because he always has to look ~cool~ and like an untouchable god#when that is literally antithesis to his entire character arc and dazai himself struggles to see himself as human#(only just now finally starting to accept that in chapter 105.5)#but i'm getting off-topic point is it's really gross and what they did to Sigma is in the same vein#the mangas and light novels are so kind and humane and empathetic........ and the anime is just nah what if we skipped all that lol#just focus on the cool flashy shit!!!!! ain't got time for all these ~feelings~ and deep complex philosophical concepts!!!#sometimes it feels like they get it (mushi's episodes and yosano's were a fluke istg) but most of the time they Don't#anyway i was writing that sigma fic anyway but it's especially fitting in light of how the anime treated him :))))#he deserves to be Mad. Enraged even.

Ggrrr I wish disenchantment was better. I binged it all because I'm sick somebody talk to me about this.
#the groening show on netflix#it had so much potential#and i did enjoy it!!! plenty of the characters were awesome#but it tried to be too big. wanted to incorporate too much. i didn't like beans magic. it got really repetitive#it felt like a lot of the movement between “lands” was super unnecessary. and took up a lot of time that could have been used in narrative#development#and you know the most fucked up part is that there was a Canon wlw couple that was end game AND I DIDNT EVEN LIKE THEM TOGETHERRR#and the last seasons egregious hyperfocus on love specifically romantic love like#it was cringe im sorry!!! not great writing#im glad beans relationship w her dad got better but i didnt like how instantanious it felt#also obv. i hate the whole thing with prince derek and his pixie gf. ew. really weird#but there was so much good and it couldve been great#i still enjoyed it but it fell short in so many ways#HOW DO YOU HAVE A QUEER GIRL COUPLE THAT I DONT LIKE!!! ME!!! QUEER GIRL NUMBER 1!!!!!!#i like EVERY WLW SHIP#and mora x bean had potential but like#it seemed a lot of the time liek they didnt even really like eachother. they aggravated tf out of eachother and not in like a hehe gay ppl#who bicker type of way. it was very much lesbian couple written by straight man feeling. idk if thats true but its the vibe i got#to the end im sad elfo never really actionably got over his weird thing about bean. he just said he did#and him and miri/mop girl. ehhhhh#i like her but she should have had a more gradual introduction into the main cast because she really feels like an after thought#glad zog moved to the woods that seemed like the right move#bean kinda handing the kingdom off to the elves kinda felt like a cop out after thought#like she got all weird about this is their kingdom we stole it from them and then only rwally gave it up after she got something that she#wanted more#please let me remake this show!!!!!!!!#also steam land!!! i like the concept but the execution and the travellimg back and forth between the two#the biggest issue this show suffered with though was repetition.#animation was fun. i enjoyed the use of 3d especially in later seasons#a lot of the jokes were funny but a lot just fell short.

In my constant brain rotations of “why are people in the west so hard on mecha aside from the fandom can be a bit unfriendly” I think one thing I realized as much as I hate to say is how mecha is sometimes treated remind me of the constant hatred superhero stuff gets.
It’s such a weird comparison because with mecha I do not know what the root of it was-and I’d love to know why but I feel there’s either no clear answer or there is one and it’s stupid-where as for superheroes in the west while there’s still a dedicated community the mainstream audiences have become tired of them due to over-saturation, which I understand, but it’s caused such a massive dismal to the entire genre of it much like mecha.
People think superhero stories can’t have any substance because it’s all about fighting and not about the characters- yet forget the SIGNIFICANT impact they had to so much pop culture. How superhero stories were rooted within comic popularity, how superheroes inspired countless of stories, even so far as reaching japan since so much early anime was taken off of western media which birthed its own genre of superheroes. It’s no different to how mecha help started up the anime industry making it one of the most important genres to japans history, yet most people don’t know it and belittle it.
Yet in superhero story cases it’s even WORSE when people are against it yet then go to see one superhero movie because it’s animated and put it on a pedestal and don’t bother to try other superhero content even though they consumed is no different from the norm. It’s the exact same shit when people watch eva and then think all other mechas don’t compare to it, when the genre always had darker, mature and emotional elements, just only a select few decide to canter to a audience who doesn’t even accept what genre it’s from which makes it all the more frustrating to deal with.
I’m someone who’s hardly into superhero stuff even if some of it catches my eye but it sucks to see that the situation is pretty identical to how mecha is seen, that I can’t help to feel sympathetic whenever I see some comic book fans upset at the mainstream audience even if they too can be a little hostile.
#meg text#to clarify I do agree 100% live action superhero movies especially the MCU got really stale#but that doesn’t mean those movies being stale should single out all superhero content when the stuff before is still GOOD#I was in a server that wasn’t mecha but someone was like “I hate superheroes” yet the discussion was just about a old Justice league cartoo#again- what’s so wrong about the animated ones? when they were from a time pre-saturation and people praise shit like spider verse?#I seriously cant tell if this is also a factor of the ever growing issue of people don’t wanna check out old things despite their importanc#*me awaiting the day someone unironically saids the boys/invincible/spider verse is a deconstruction so I can sigh in pain with actual fans#I hope to god that doesn’t happen but it feels like it’s close to why people already say superhero movies don’t have characters#and maybe that’s true bc I haven’t watched a marvel movie in ages but also I think you more so mean “characters being expanded upon”#because… every story has characters… just some can lack dimension and depth… but their still characters…#oh and it’s funny how it’s always these two that get singled out for focusing on action but shonen gets a pass 😑#action doesn’t equate to less characters!! How do people not realize this?#it’s fine if not your preference but fights can LITERALLY be CHARACTER DRIVEN#a lot of them are in fact because there’s always a purpose to these fights! Even if the meaning is sometimes barebone#also I know there’s gonna be a mecha fan who hates superhero who finds this post#and hate to break it to you but I’m pretty sure the super in super robot came from superhero and just not super powered#especially when a lot of the stuff Nagai made/worked on was him clearly tackling a superhero story from another angle#of course mecha isn’t entirely a superhero genre since we have “reals” but the 70s robots? Oh yeah meant to be superhero’s#and what I said above I think the comparison is warranted because the downplaying is unreal sometimes#will say between the two superhero’s probably have it worse because mecha honestly is more so “im curious but idk more then 5 shows”#because my god I can’t have some conversations irl where this shit doenst get unnecessary heated#had a whole English teacher who wouldn’t stop complaining about superhero movies last semester in college 💀 it’s that bad#that said mecha still suffers from people liking one show and shooting down the other it’s just not as prevalent bc mecha content is low#it’s not dead like others say but it’s mainly been gundam and people now just think gundam is every robot (which is PAINFUL but whatever)#moral of the story is don’t judge a book by it’s cover especially when that book is actually really important to fucking pop culture

efforts in developing winston billions hair geometry; turned to kim possible geometry as a guiding light
#isn't it always. chicken & egg abt that geometric appeal but not like it was the sole animated show seen & enjoyed in those years#(which aren't so strongly aligned w/my later honed Personal Tastes like yep that's sure like thee design approach)#also definitely have this like newspaper comics derived Crisp N Clear Line Design sensibility as a preexisting foundation there#going [difficulty w/a Transition here? i should check like the peak example of that. kim possible Pants into Shoes little swoops approach]#then looking at another Design Reference sheet like hey wait yeah. so true to consider here#then here drawing from memory in one minute for joie de draw / vivre of that#while even at its swoopiest my own style must be a bit more broken up into pieces than that but#pretty quick winstons; thanks too to staying focused on the [argh fr how do i wanna have his hair swoop from this angle]#i like having two hairline scribblies....conversely it's like hmm do i only want one citrus wedge piece of hair drawn at a time....#winston billions#corned beef#kim possible#designs will be in flux eternally but some things are always a bit especially considered / struggled with / honed#and by that i mean most things really lmao. but we are living it up

I saw someone on twitter making a joke about senai getting original themes every year while precure is currently on it's third animal-themed season and like...i dont know what that person is on about, this year's sentai will be vehicle themed for like the 6th time
#its not even true. the animal theme in kira kira is only secondary and is there to spice up the aesthetic of the season#but the main theme is sweets. animals have almost nothing to do with the plot#healin good is about health and enviorenmet. again the animals are extra#this is the first time animals are the actual focus and main theme of the show#if we follow this logic then delicious party is also animal theme because the fairies are animal#idk. just a dumb thing to say imo#especially because again. this is like the 6th time sentai's used vehicles as its theme

Watching Romantic Killer and it's giving me SUCH strong Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun vibes, you guys. The ridiculous humour? The unhinged characters? The way everyone's personality is so....well, person like instead of tropey? And also just the way Anzu is such a Constant Mood
But I gotta say....if a weird little evil blob of a wizard popped out of my screen and took away my chocolate, pets, and video games, I would murder it no hesitation magical contract or no. What's the law going to do? Arrest me for killing a yellow blob?
#thats the only one criticism i have#but for plot ill allow it...especially because anzu is such a champ with it all#no fluster just frustration and the most absolute over the top reactions i love her#and i love kazuki and junta so far#but anzu is my true blorbo in this show#you go girl you can do this!#also this is such a small thing#but i LOVE anzu's VA#i will absolutely not hate on the squeaky anime girl voices...they just personally grate on me (subjective thing)#and her normal voice is SO nice#fandom spamdom#stuff i say#romantic killer
