YOU WHAT

Leverage is an extremely good show and you should watch it! A band of thieves cons corrupt capitalists out of their ill-gotten gains and gives it back to the people they ripped off.

It doesn't really have recipes much, but it's kind of a running thing that Elliot (the guy who made the sandwich) is a stealth Michelin-level chef. Among other things.

The sandwich comes from Season 4, Episode 11; that particular episode is kind of a parody of The Office which isn't normal for the show.

(Leverage is the original show, Leverage Redemption is a reboot that basically picks up from the original so watch the original first.)

🙈 I don't watch much TV! But I've heard good things. I once worked on a reverse big bang with someone who wrote a Leverage AU of The Old Guard!

Organized & targeted Robin Hooding does sound like a fun premise, even if the number of sandwich recipes I'd gain might be low... 😊

Fandom Trumps Hate Old Guard Round-Up

For those not familiar with @fandomtrumpshate, it's a great way to support some very good causes. The way it works is, creators offer custom fanworks or services. Then other fans bid on them. Whoever has the highest bid at the end of the bidding period donates that amount of money to one of the selected non-profits and submits proof of donation. I need you all to know that I am 11 working days away from leaving my public-facing job at the UK's largest military charity, yes the one with 'royal' in the name, the Queen as our patron and a supporter base that is largely elderly and very patriotic, and I am taking it as a personal insult that the Queen has chosen to make those last days a living hell for me. I am going to have so many phone calls where I'll have to be 'saddened by this great loss' and 'touched by your kind words'.

Just...why would the Queen pick on me like this? What did I ever do to her?

This is SV Tenacious, the only tall ship in the world designed and built to be sailed by a truly mixed ability crew, including including disabled people, those with mental health conditions or long-term ill-health issues. She has features such as wheelchair lifts and wide decks that provide equal and easy access throughout the ship, a speaking compass that enables those with visual impairments to steer the ship and signage in braille, guidance tracks, tactile stair strips and raised directional arrows on handrails for people with visual impairments.

I’ve sailed on her several times, and seen wheelchair users go up the mast and visually impaired people steer her into harbour, and the impact on people’s self-confidence that being a full part of the crew, able to take part in every aspect of sailing a ship, has on people.

All her voyages had to be cancelled over the pandemic, and now the charity that runs her, the Jubilee Sailing Trust, are facing administration if they can’t raise a certain amount by Thursday 14th. If they do, it will be a huge loss for a lot of people.

I realise this is a difficult time, financially, for lots of people, but if you can spare anything to help keep them going, please do, or even just share this post in case others can help. This charity means a lot to me and my family.

 “We’ve never kept a secret of our love,” said Joe. “Nicky is everything to me. And you’re intending to hurt him. How do you think that will end for you?”

 Kozak gave him a dismissive look, one which Nicky was sure she would come to regret. “I’ve always wondered how these work,” she said, looking back down at the faint red of Joe’s numbers. “They make no biological sense, you know."

Clint and Bucky have been fucking after missions for a while but as long as Bucky tells himself they’re just buddies letting off steam, he can pretend it doesn’t mean anything queer. Which works great, right up until it doesn’t.

Just as he’s trying to distance himself from Clint to avoid the mess he’s made, an altercation with a mutant ends with both of them sent back in time to the place Bucky still considers home: 1939 Brooklyn.

Trying to lay low and not fuck up the timeline, they're forced to depend on each other to survive in the past. While Bucky slowly starts to work through his issues, Clint throws a wrench in the works by making pals with the guys next door - a much younger Bucky and Steve.

Hi Sarah!  Thank you so much for sending this ask - I forwarded it yesterday morning (and thank you @thirdspin for sending me one back, I tagged ya so you can see the respones here, too 🤗), and then had started to answer this one but then my app crashed!  SOOO going to try to type it up again lol.  I figured I’d focus on mainly fandom stuff this time around (though in no order), but I do mention my excitement for the 12 days of Christmas at the very end if you - or anyone else - would prefer to skip that (I’ll put it under a cut)

1. The @lmzine

I’m reblogging and seeing posts on my dash now that the exclusivity period has been lifted, and it’s so lovely to see a collaborative and creative group project come full circle after months (I think I put some feelers in a server back in Feb?).  And I’m so very humbled and grateful by the support it received every step along the way - from our merch artists (@tinkspins @amyvalhalla @ceraunos) and C. giving me blog graphic feedback, to A. for the running a zine feedback/insight, to @beepbeepsan who helped proof my words in case either my bilingual brain (or the excitement from my NDcodeness) made my verbal capacity glitch lol.  And of course, the dozen contributors who helped bring it to life, and the 30+ backers who helped fund it, and all the people who helped hyped it along the way - and getting to donate to PPP on Luca's birthday.  It really was a labor of love, but also a lot of fun, and I’m so glad that people are enjoying it.  We don’t always get to see the fruits of our labors, and sometimes that can be discouraging but we truck on anyways - but nope, not me, I have been blessed to see the full circle of this one, yay! <3 

2. IWTV

For anyone who has followed me for the last two and half years, you’ve seen me fall head first into the IWTV fandom lol.  I joked about it here - but essentially it’s true, in that I’m a sucker for the intersectionality of queerness and faith (projecting?  Me??).  And though of course all takes are valid, there’s so much more symbolism, and directness when it comes to religion in the fandom, where instead of crumbs, I am feasting - and I’m living my best life lol (I wrote about that, and some of the meta topics I'd love to write up soon, but my app is glitching trying to put two links in one paragraph 🫠)

Of course the interesting caveat here is, that if it weren’t vampires, I wouldn’t be able to watch this show - I semi-joked about that here, too - but hey, loopholes, am I right? . . . As for what speaks to me the most when it comes to the fandom, I’d say for sure the religious aspect, but also the diversity, history, and found family - which really isn’t all that different from the TOG fandom, but I think with better digital boundaries in place, and all the filtering lol, I’m able to curate my experience in a way where I can just focus on the hobby portion of fandom :)

3. The @iwtvbigbang

So one thing about me that most people see fairly early on . . . I don’t do anything half-assed lol.  Like, blame my NDcodeness, blame my grief history, whatever you want to call it, but I am a seize the day type of person.  I love intently and intensely, I never want to take anything for granted, and when I’m in - I’m in lol.  Now mix in my absolute joy for digital organization, and bringing people together to collab on creative projects, and I am already having a blast over here lol.  The open call applications are still open for another week, but the discord server has been made for cheering on during the creative process, I’m reaching out to the mod applicants next week, and things will be picking up steam next month.  However I’m also aware that intentions don’t always line up with impact and though the desire is definitely there, I’m very much a servant-style leadership kind of person, and am very grateful for extra insight and tips that @werebearbearbar passed along so I can hopefully bring my A-game to the project.  

At the end of the day, I want to nurture creativity and community and help as many people as possible feel uplifted and confident in their projects 😊

I don’t want to go into too many specifics when it comes to this server, because this is a public blog after all, but I’m very very grateful for this online space of friends and feel cozy and safe and have a lot of fun - very fortunate and blessed beyond measure, especially during the homebound months, to have pocket friends to sip hot chocolate with and VC chat and craft and watch new movies with and just yeah, it's a lovely space for me - and my hope is to send little virtual thank you cards for end of the year reflections <3

5. 12 Days of Christmas

I’ve spent some three-ish weeks in Advent mode, doing my devotionals, abstaining, etc etc etc . . . and after tonight, it’s the TWELVE DAYS OF CHRISTMAS WOO-HOO!!  We’re decorating down here, getting things ready, and I’m looking forward to spending the time in joy, and warmth, and love and singing carols, and studies, and rejoicing, as the world goes a little more quiet (normally my brain itches at quiet lol, but I mean in the sense that no one else wants to do anything haha, so I have more time to dedicate to spiritual time vs running around and offering it up in hopes it counts lol).

Sandwich Scouting: The Eliot Bagel

As a new year’s resolution, I’m breaking out of my usual sandwich habits to try new flavors and seek new experiences. For November, I tried a recipe inspired by some guy on Leverage (😁), posted by @2glassesofchianti here, and suggested to me by @thirdspin! Thanks!

Description: Turkey, tomato, cheeses, and caramelized onion bagel sandwich.

Rating: 8/10

Difficulty: 2/5

I made an effort with this one, guys! Bread has frequently been the low point, so I made sure to go to an actual bagel shop - but unfortunately they only had plain bagels by the time I got there. Oh well I tried.

The sandwich was very good, although extremely slippery & messy due to the cream cheese melting (maybe I go too hard on the cream cheese). The turkey, tomato, dill havarti, and bagel all had pretty mellow flavors; it was the seasoned cream cheese and of course the caramelized onions that starred. I didn't mind that at all! But something sharper in the other ingredients would have been nice to balance it.

I knew caramelizing onions would take a while, so I watched a couple episodes of a comfort show while prepping dinner. I did this instead of working on my writing.

This was my first time making caramelized onions, but I think they turned out well! I spent a good 40-50 minutes cooking them down slowly.

Steps:

Caramelize some onions. There's a bajillion articles on how to do this. I thinly sliced sweet onions and cooked them in nice olive oil & salt for about 45 or 50 minutes on medium low heat, stirring frequently, until they were super reduced and very brown.

Flavor some cream cheese. I mixed in sliced green onion, minced garlic, garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, and a tiny bit of vinegary hot sauce.

Toast your bagel. When it's almost done, sear your sliced turkey in the onion pan.

Build: bagel bottom, cream cheese, turkey, dill havarti, sliced tomato, caramelized onions, more cream cheese on bagel top.

Wrap in foil and bake at 400 F / 205 C for 6 minutes.

If I tried it again: I'd use an everything bagel like recommended. Maybe a sharper cheese too, to combat the onions; I didn't really taste the havarti. A lettuce leaf would be a nice addition as well for some crunch. Sorry for questioning you, Eliot, whoever you are.

Misc. notes: Are caramelized onions damn tasty? Hell yeah. Am I likely to make them again? ...actually, maybe. I'm a person of simple taste and little patience, but these may be worth the time once in a while. I sure enjoyed them on my sandwich, and I'm looking forward to eating the rest. I still have a bit of goat bleu cheese that may go well...

Sideblog of @thirdspin with books I have read and enjoyed. This is mostly a record, not reviews or recommendations, although I certainly recommend everything that makes it in here.

It's going to be largely fiction, with a lot of romance or other soft/cozy genres. I'm not generally a fan of thrillers, mysteries or horror but there are always exceptions!

I am pretty sensitive to second-hand embarrassment; I'll include a rough count of places I started skimming for personal reference in the tags since that is extremely subjective (check the original post). I'll also tag with the title and author, and do my best at genre--corrections welcome!
