The Snake and the Wolf
Chapter 3 - Hounds
The plot took over this story, as did the POV changes. I hope @erisweek2023 readers are ready for a complete detachement from the canonical events of the book, because the moment of Nesta's escape has arrived.
Prologue | Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 4
Words: 1.281
Nesta didnā€™t know how she got to the stony coast of the Night Court. One moment she was walking down the steps of the House of Wind and the next she was running away from Velaris, crushed by guilt and fear of what Rhysand might do to her. She gave away his secret, she gave back to Feyre what had been taken from her, and now she no longer had a home. Her mind raced to Gwyn and Emerie, to what might happen to them, since Cassian and Azriel knew they were her closest friends. She had to find a way to make them escape, to warn them to get to safety, because Nesta knew that the High Lord would try to enter their minds to see if they had any idea of her whereabouts. She hadnā€™t told Feyre that her first pregnancy would also be her last just because she had a good heart, but deep down they all knew she deserved to go to her death with her pride intact, like she already did to free them all. Furthermore, there was probably a solution to the problem. Considering how they took the fact that Feyre possessed a drop of everyoneā€™s powers, Nesta doubted that the High Lords wouldā€™ve ever agreed to bring her back to life again, but maybe another Death-God resided somewhere, trapped in a mountain or a tree, and Rhysand couldā€™ve sold his black soul to save his Mate. Nesta wondered if she wouldā€™ve done it in his place, given the chance, but didnā€™t like the answer she found within her, so she resumed her walk, going further and further south, with the sand under her bare feet and the now cold water lapping at her ankles with the rhythmic motion of the waves. Sheā€™d never been to the seaside before. If the situation had been different, she wouldā€™ve tried swimming, and then she wouldā€™ve found a house and wrote to Elain how beautiful it was, and how she had nothing to fear, unlike when she was thrown into the Cauldron, but the situation was no different and there were no villages in sight, so Nestaā€™s only hope was to reach a Court willing to help her before Rhysand tracked her down. In the library, she had read countless books that explained how to defend herself from the powers of a daemati, but since she hadnā€™t met any other beside her sisterā€™s husband, she didnā€™t know if she was using those techniques well or if even a child couldā€™ve destroyed her mind with just a snap of the fingers. Another incentive to keep up the pace, until her knees gave in and her vision went blurry from exhaustion. Before the Valkyries, before she rediscovered the joy of having purpose and friends, she wouldā€™ve gladly accepted the oblivion, better than the one provided by alcohol, but now she realized she had reasons to live, places to explore and lessons to learn. Allowing herself the luxury of dreaming, Nesta wouldā€™ve liked to visit the Autumn Court first, that enchanted and colourful place described in the novels she had shared with the House. She was sorry she had to leave it behind, even if it was depressing to say that her first, true friend in the Night Court hadnā€™t been a person but the darkness inside a building. Maybe, in honour of that bond, she wouldā€™ve indulged its desire to delve deeper into her powers, now that she didn't have to endure the pressures of the Inner Circle, or maybe she wouldā€™ve not, her life as Fae full of possibilities, if only she managed to survive and crawl out of the niche in the rocks where she had taken refuge for the night.
She though she wouldā€™ve woke up because of the humidity, or the pangs of hunger and thirst, but she discovered to her amazement that it was something wet touching her hand that shook her from her torpor. Even opening her eyes, caked by the salty air, cost her immense effort, but the cries of the creature managed to completely steal her from her dreamless sleep. The dog, clearly a hound of some sort, had a long and slender body, his ribs almost protruding from how thin it was, but it was its muzzle that struck her, so elongated and elegant, and at the same time almost grotesque, with those big eyes and short ears hanging down at the sides of its small head. It was the strangest beast sheā€™d ever seen, yet something in her desired to reach out to pet it, to seek some comfort in its short gray fur. It mustā€™ve been an excellent hunter, judging by its long sharp teeth, but it was also very playful, seeing how happily it wiggled its tail while she scratched its belly. Nesta had always wanted a pet, not necessarily a dog, perhaps a cat or a bunny wouldā€™ve sufficed, but her mother always forbade it, and her father never bothered to get her one, despite the huge numbers of requests. It wasnā€™t noble enough to take care of something else beside themselves, and when they fell from grace, it was too much, yet Nesta knew she had it in her to be a trainer, perhaps a little soft-hearted if all puppies had the same expression as the creature she was snuggling at the moment, but always attentive to her petā€™s needs.
ā€œWhere is your owner? Are you lost?ā€ she asked as if it could answer, her voice hoarse after more than a whole day of not using it. It had been a meaningless question, to which she certainly hadnā€™t expected to receive a reply, but the dog stood up on his long legs and ran out of the niche, into the sunlight flooding the dark beach. Nesta followed with great difficulty, but the beast didnā€™t move any more, as if it was waiting for her to catch up. They went on like this for hours, Ā the dog advancing and Nesta dragging herself through the sand to reach him, until the sun almost completed its descent arc and another dog barked in the distance. Nesta knew they couldnā€™t have moved too far, not with her in those conditions, but all those animals could mean only that sheā€™d reached a town, and the larger the settlement, the more the possibilities of someone offering asylum to a dying young female, at least for a few hours. Her bones ached even more at the thought of a soft bed, and her stomach growled as she pictured every kind of food known to both men and Fae, but although she was almost certain the sun had burned the exposed skin on her arms, the worst torture had been the dryness in her mouth, which made it difficult to even swallow the little saliva she had left. At some point, when imagination and reality began to merge, she heard someone call her name, and a male figure appeared at the horizon, the burning red of the sun the same shade as his hair. The glorious hallucination approached her at a brisk pace, one dog at its heels and the other trotting alongside, satisfied with its distressed discovery. A pair of muscular arms, thinner than Cassianā€™s but no less strong, caught her before she could fall to the ground again, and Nesta couldā€™ve sworn the smell of burnt wood, fresh apples and sweet cinnamon engulfed her as it used to do when her maids cooked her favourite treats.
ā€œI found you,ā€ murmured a familiar voice, full of concern and apprehension, its ownerā€™s face buried in her matted hair. ā€œIā€™m here, and weā€™re going home.ā€

Hello people who are getting into Danny Phantom through dpxdc!
I am not a dpxdc blog, but I am a gen dp blog. Here's a few things you should know about us:
šŸ‘» Most of us do not like Butch Hartman, the executive producer. We typically ignore him now. What you may not know is that while he was the "business guy" and the one who pitched the show, beloved artist and character designer Stephen Silver is actually the one who designed the characters for Danny Phantom (and, presumably, his team). Not only that, but he has also designed characters for many other shows of that era, including Kim Possible.
šŸ‘» Yes, we call ourselves the "phandom." We also, jokingly, sometimes put a ph in front of other things, like calling a fic a phic. It's a bitā€”don't take it too seriously.
šŸ‘» Yes, we have a subgenre of our fanfiction dubbed as the "dissection fic." While I may be a bit biased (as I've written a few), I think it's pretty good. You may enjoy it too if you like angst, who knows.
šŸ‘» No, you did not miss an episode, we collectively "made" an OC named Wes Weston who had the same character model as Danny but with a different color pallet. We just thought it was funny. You can read about his story here. The tl;dr is that he's the town crazy conspiracy theorist, he's the only one who knows Danny Fenton is Phantom, and he is constantly trying to prove it but nobody believes him. You remember Dib from Invader Zim? He's like Dib.
šŸ‘» On the contrary, you remember the finale of the show? That's okay, we don't either. Phantom Planet who? Never heard of her.
šŸ‘» But on the topic of adding things to fanon, the show's been off the air for decades. We're still around. Naturally, we've added things and made different AUs overtime. Different creators have different AUs they like, but you don't have to prescribe to any of them if you don't want. If you're confused about anything you see, feel free to pop me or anyone else an ask and we'd be happy to explain!
šŸ‘» There's also different bits of lore that were hinted on in canon that we've expanded. Things like ghost cores, half-ghost biology, worldbuilding with the ghost zone, ghosts having obsessions, dynamics at the school, etc. You're free to adopt or ignore whatever you'd like.
šŸ‘» The show is no ATLA, and it's a bit dated for its time, but overall it's a fairly fun background show you can throw on while you're cooking. If you've never seen an episode, I highly recommend watching at least a few fan favorites. I made a list here a while back, and I think it still holds up pretty well.
šŸ‘» We host a LOT of events. There's a full calendar of them here. You can assume these are crossover-friendly unless the event coordinators state otherwise (like in the case of phic phight). Feel free to join some!
Welcome, and have fun!

Raphael has a very poetic and grandiose way of speaking that is absolutely not the norm for day-to-day life. How do you get in the mindset to come up with his dialogues? They're perfection and I just can't even imagine how long it would take to do one paragraph of the way he talks, but you're writing an entire story with him...
Oh I love this question because I can answer it, lol sadlkjfsda
Okay so, Raphael's character is tough for me.
Normally I do a lot of dialogue research before starting to write a character in fanfiction and original fiction, but Raphael actually gets proportionately very few lines that really show his full emotional range (compared to say, Astarion), and he's got an incredibly specific way of talking that sounds similar to Astarion but at the same time is very different.
They share enough similarities (calling people darling and dear for example) that it's easy to fall into the trap of giving them the same 'voice.'
I find Astarion's voice a lot easier to 'get' and I feel like I can hear him better when I'm writing him. But Raphael I'm taking into emotional spaces we simply never see in the game, and then I have to really guess how he'd sound (like coming up with the idea that the theatricality vanishes when Raphael is genuinely panicking).
I ended up listening to a lot of interviews with Andrew Wincott, the Voice Actor for Raphael who is an incredible actor and extremely articulate. He was very clear in one of his interviews that one of the reasons he was selected to play Raphael was because, in part, he already sounded like him. Obviously there's differences / skill in changing cadence and more, but for the most part, Andrew Wincott uses similar vocabulary and talks in a similar manner to Raphael naturally, so I had an abundance of interviews that I could then listen to in order to get a feel for Raphael's voice. I picked the things that felt more 'Raphael' and added them to my dialogue notes.
I often have to go back and edit Raphael's dialogue. Sometimes it's very simple things, I had him say 'much more' in the chapter I'm editing right now, and I edited it to 'far more' because I think he'd just phrase it like that. Sometimes I expand a sentence into an entire paragraph.
I've also leaned a lot from Korilla's transcripts in the game, which have been super useful. They really cement, more than anything, how much he loves lullabies, nursery rhymes, children's tales and more.
HOW TO DO DIALOGUE RESEARCH:-
If you're new to dialogue research, it mostly involves listening to - and watching a character and then literally taking notes of how they talk. The things you observe are:
The tone of their voice - Fast or slow. Loud or soft. Musical or flat. Theatrical or matter-of-fact. High or low. Questioning or complete statements. Considered or hedging (i.e. very well constructed sentences, or a lot of pauses, ellipses, broken sentences). Rambling or concise.
How often they talk - Some characters actually say a lot with very little. Raphael is actually a lot of observation and facial expressions and eyebrow movements in between his dialogue. Little smirks, hand gestures and more. Do they interrupt or let people finish their sentences? Are they comfortable with silence? I find Raphael oscillates between long theatrical paragraphs, single sentences or words, and then a lot of silence. He's actually not very conversational, in that you can have a conversation with him, but I doubt he'd see the point of two hours of small-talk. (At this point you might be realising that dialogue research is also character research, how a character talks tells you so much about a character.)
The words (and metaphors/subjects) they use - This is a big one and I'm going to break this down a little bit more:
How they pause if they don't know what to say. Is it 'um' 'uh' 'ah' 'hm' 'mm' 'mn' or nothing at all (or something else) because they've mastered self-control over their dialogue? If Raphael says 'ah' he does so on purpose.
Filler words. Things like characters saying 'like' in a sentence. 'He was like, 'I can't believe it'' etc. This is very similar to how they pause, but it's the things people say to get from point A to point B. People who don't do this have often had training or think very hard about what they're going to say before they say it. But people say 'like' or 'and then' or 'well' or 'i realised that' or 'i thought that' etc. to carry them on. Some are more acceptable than others (people do just have realisations for example).
Profanity. How often do they swear, and how intentional is it? Some characters only swear when they get hurt or stub their toe or get angry. Some characters swear all the time for fun. Some characters only use some swear words and not others. Be specific. Be aware that some swear words are cultural! This includes blasphemy. In Faerun they use 'gods' and 'gods damn it' more often than we use 'god' or 'oh my god.'
Vulgarity. This is useful for Raphael (and Astarion) because he's very happy to be vulgar. This is like... how comfortable are they talking about sex, about sexual subjects, being crude, being seductive, flirtatious? And if they use it, do they use vulgarity to shock, seduce, scare, threaten, or for humour?
Salutations and farewells. How do they greet people? Silence? A calm hello? (A lot of greetings are omitted in dialogue but this is still good to know). How do they say hello, goodbye. How does that change between friends and enemies and strangers?
Single word sentences. This might sound weird, but sometimes when a character hears something that shocks them, or needs to acknowledge something, they may say anything from 'huh' to 'yeah' to 'fuck' to 'okay' to 'all right' to 'sure' to 'go on' to 'indeed' to just laughing out loud. The list goes on. Raphael is team 'indeed' lmao.
Sentence structure. Raphael's sentence structure is - when he's most comfortable - gently provoking, teasing, vaguely threatening, and makes liberal use of simile, metaphor, fairy tale, rhyme, sayings, colloquialisms and more. Raphael talks like someone who knows someone could quote him at any moment lmao. But from here, how a character structures their sentences can be helpful to know. Go back to 'the tone of their voice.' Those notes will give you an idea of structure.
Emotionality. How emotional are they? Do they have rage rants? Joyful giggling dialogue? Do they infodump with little emotion? Or with sheer excitement? Does their dialogue feel fake or real? Opaque or transparent? Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves, and others will never be able to say 'I love you' in anything other than actions. Raphael's emotionality in dialogue is more present in his anger and irritation, and also when he feels triumphant and/or turned on.
The symbols, sayings, colloquialisms and metaphors themselves. Not all characters use these. But some people/characters will talk through analogies, colloquialisms. This is actually Raphael's biggest dialogue departure from Astarion, imho, aside from the fact that Astarion is a lot more emotional with his dialogue.
Take into account their culture, ethnicity, conceits, upbringing, education and the people they're close to:
This one is vital. Firstly, some people tend to 'absorb' elements of those around them. A person raised by affluent people will often 'sound affluent' and a person raised in poverty will often have dialogue that reflects this and if they don't there will be reasons for that. It might be a conceit (some people self-teach themselves different accents), it might be education, it might be training, it might be the subculture/s they've entered into, and so on.
~
When doing this research, you'll end up with a kind of master-list of actual words and probably some sentences you've written down, along with a lot of notes. You can also do this for any original characters you're making at all, you're just then making it up based on the character, and this research will also give in many ways the shape of the character.
It's a fun exercise and I highly recommend everyone tries it literally for people who don't exist and also observe your friends and family, and do a dialogue cheat sheet for some of them. It's pretty eye-opening! Even one page will teach you more than nothing at all. You can go deep and write many pages, or you can do what I do and keep it lean at 2 pages. Anyone who struggles with characterisation I suggest at least try this exercise, because anyone can put on a YouTube video and/or streaming service or even a favourite Tiktoker and start doing dialogue research! It's a way of building a character from the top down while also getting information about their foundations.

Hi! I was wondering if you had any advice on how to craft a well-written, compelling Arthurian OC that isn't obnoxious or out of place but is still unique. I recognize the difficulty in doing so with so many different source texts (I'm most familiar with Le Morte, so that's usually my go-to) and the vast list of already existing characters. I'm just curious about your thoughts on the matter, since you're an author and also very knowledgeable about Arthuriana šŸ’–
Hello there!
This is a tough question to answer! I think it's important to note that everyone will have a different opinion on this, but that shouldn't alter you writing your story how you want to. Some think adding any characters at all is too big of a change, while others write a full cast of original characters and then Merlin shows up randomly and makes the story "Arthurian."
I'm going to say something controversial.
Every Arthurian character is an OC.
Even King Arthur himself is an OC.
Tumblr media
I'm going to elaborate on this quite a bit, as it's very important to me. But the TL;DR is that reading more will definitely help you conceptualize the boundaries of what's possible. Le Morte d'Arthur is a great start, but there's so much out there, both medieval and modern, that'll undoubtedly aid in your Arthuriana writing journey! :^)
While I do say things like "I love Arthurian OCs" as a means to convey that I view everyone's new creations as valid and interesting, I actually don't believe in a strong differentiation between Chretien de Troyes' Sir Lancelot or Marie of France's Sir Lanval and what you or I are writing today. We're participating in a tradition which can, at times, necessitate the creation of a new character or repurposing of an existing one. I think as soon as you create a character for your Arthurian story, they're an Arthurian character. Some refer to Lancelot or Galahad as "French OCs" or call Knight of the Cart or the Vulgate "fanfiction" as a means to degrade it's validity. Some seem to have an arbitrary timeline on which the full body of Arthurian works is measured, and the more recently something was written, the less authentic it becomes. I think they're wrong. I believe that whether or not we enjoy an installment in the ever expanding Arthurian tradition is irrelevant; it's all equally entitled to a measure of respect, even the new characters. No character or story is lesser than another by virtue of its age or language of origin or target audience or medium. I disdain the excess of scrutiny put upon certain arbitrary groupings of Arthurian tradition. Each story is full of original characters and building on the foundations of what came before. That's the nature of creative influence. Whether or not Arthur was a real person at some point in history is moot. The guy in the Mabinogion or the Vulgate or Le Morte d'Arthur or BBC Merlin is a character. He's a tool to tell a story. Such as your creation will be! Your brand new Arthurian character stands equally with all the rest who preceded them. :^)
Now, it can be helpful to distinguish between a medieval character and a modern one, sure, as they may represent different things depending on what point in history (or part of the world) they were created in. But Arthuriana isn't a franchise one must obtain express permission to contribute to, and it doesn't have a "canon," so therefore differentiating a character as "other" can be counter productive when developing a story. I don't believe Sir Robin from Monty Python and The Holy Grail (1975) or Brian from The Adventures of Sir Lancelot (1956-1957) are any less valuable as characters, even if they do draw on traits of existing Arthurian motifs in order to commentate on them or otherwise expand. In fact I think they're great characters and serve their narrative roles beautifully. One simple and one complex. I recommend watching those to see how it's done well and that may help you develop your own characters. But I'll delve into it a bit here to illustrate what I mean.
Sir Robin carries the coat of arms of a chicken, he's a cowardly knight followed around by a troupe of musicians that sing songs about all of his exploits. That is, the things he's run away from. Rather than use an existing Arthurian character and degrading them, Monty Python developed Sir Robin in order to tell their joke.
The flipside is Brian, a bona fide kitchen boy, who attaches himself to Sir Lancelot and desires to squire for him. Brian's narrative purpose is to deconstruct the nobility in a way that Gareth Beaumains, whom Brian is plainly inspired by, could not. Brian begins as a true serf forced to endear himself to Sir Lancelot to elevate his station. Merlin forges papers of nobility to convince King Arthur that Brian is worthy of this privilege. Even after that, Brian must face the brutality of his fellows while living in the barracks with them, as they don't take kindly to a "smelly kitchen boy" in their midst, plotting to get Brian to incriminate himself as a thief and get evicted from Camelot by Sir Kay. This role is incongruous with Gareth as Sir Gawain's brother, who was always noble, always a prince, and merely cloaked himself in the guise of poverty to prove a point. Gareth could return to the comforts of wealth whenever it suited him and his reason for going stealth was to intentionally distance himself from that privilege. The character Brian exists in order to commentate on the injustice of the upper class's oppression and dehumanization of the lower class in a way Gareth, or even Tor, could not, as they are of noble blood, even if it came by way of reveal. That's why Brian is a great addition to the Arthurian tradition.
Really, it comes down to treating the creation of your new Arthurian character like you would developing one for any other work, one entirely separate from the tradition. If they're a good character, they're a good character! Try not to get hung up too much on whether or not they're going to mesh well with the rest of the cast. For centuries, writers have transformed historical figures into Arthurian characters. (See: King Mark of Kernow better known as the Cuckhold King from the Prose Tristan, Owain mab Urien better known as Sir Yvain from Knight of the Lion by Chretien de Troyes, Saint Derfel better known as Derfel Gadarn from The Warlord Chronicles by Bernard Cornwell, etc.)
Speaking of Prose Tristan, would anyone consider Sir Dinadan an OC? Or Sir Palomides? They're characters added to a story drawing from a much, much older tradition, and I think they enrich the story. I feel likewise about the many Perceval Continuations, including the German Parzival by Wolfram von Eschenbach, which adds a half brother named Sir Feirefiz, or names Chretien's anonymous haughty maiden Orgeluse. What about Sir Aglovale's son Moriaen in the Dutch tradition? Amurfina in German Diu Krone by Heinrich von dem TĆ¼rlin? Morgan le Fay's daughter Puzella Gaia in Italian La Tavola Ritonda? Not to mention the countless Middle English additions. The Green Knight and his wife? Dame Ragnelle and Sir Gromer? Or how about everyone's favorite Savage Damsel, Lynette of Castle Perilous? Is she not a late-era addition to the tradition courtesy of the man, the myth, the legend, Sir Thomas Malory himself? And then here comes Tennyson, who read Le Morte d'Arthur, and got to the end of dear Gareth Beaumains' story and had the same reaction we all did: "What the hell? He marries her sister?" And then he went about changing that in Idylls of the King. Speaking of Lynette, what's up with her niece Laurel? She's just a name on a page, the vast majority of retellings choose to ignore her, even if they do keep Lynette and Lyonesse. Laurel can scarcely be called a character, after all. She doesn't even have dialogue. So as I've gone out of my way to make her a prominent, fully developed character, with her own culture and back story and motivations, does that make her an OC of mine? And Henry Newbolt who included Laurel in his play Mordred: A Tragedy. And Sarah Zettel, who wrote from Laurel's point of view in Camelot's Blood. We did all the work, but we threw an Arthurian name on the character, so therefore, she isn't ours? But if we changed her name, she would be? Who gets to decide?
All of the Arthurian characters belong to all of us. That's the beauty of writing in a long-standing tradition, which exists apart from all other forms of writing. We have complete creative liberty to do what we want and refer to it how we want and no person or corporation or anyone can dictate otherwise. The intellectual property of Arthuriana belongs to the people. So invent a brand new wife for Gawain, and well, you're only the millionth author to do it! Just make sure she's an interesting character and that's literally the only requirement. Can't wait to meet her. (And all others you create!)
Have a great day!

Introducing Mortal Kombat Odyssey
I wanted to come out here and announce my future big project. Mortal Kombat Odyssey is my fanfic reboot of the Mortal Kombat franchise featuring my own take on the MK universe disconnected from any other media, unlike my previous fanfic, Mortal Kombat Requiem.
Iā€™ve been a fan of this franchise for years now and had a lot of ideas and thoughts and takes over the years, and I think itā€™s finally time to start putting it all together.
So, what will this entail?
Mortal Kombat Odyssey is going to be my longform take on the overall arc of the Midway Saga, all the way from MK1 (the real one) through to Armageddon and beyond, for as long as I feel I have stories to tell.
This is going to be a lot of my headcanons and character interpretations put to the page and expanded into something which I will give my full effort to making the best story I can put out for you all.
WHERE TO FIND: when I begin writing for Odyssey, itā€™ll be posted to my fanfic.net profile which Iā€™ll link here: https://m.fanfiction.net/u/13042529/
Different sections of this project will be uploaded as different stories on my FFN profile with authors notes letting you all know when things intersect. I promise to make my very best effort to ensure things donā€™t get confusing.
For this saga Iā€™ll actually be going in chronological order rather than simply following the release order of the games Iā€™m adapting, starting with the early years of Shujinkoā€™s quest for the Kamidogu, following into Special Forces and Mythologies, and then leading into the classic island tournament stuff.
Iā€™ll be pulling on a variety of influences, primarily Midway MK but also elements of NRS and adaptations, with an effort to give some attention to every corner of the MK universe that I can.
In addition to the story itself, Iā€™m going to be releasing character bios for every character that Iā€™ll be including in this project, right here on tumblr! This will serve to give a general idea of a lot of my character takes going in as well as convey backstories. Visually, these bios will be accompanied by designs for the characters Iā€™ve made using the character creator HeroForge, similar to my friend @apepthehero, whoā€™s OCs, along with the characters of other close friends of mine, I have gained permission to include, and who I think will add a lot to these stories in the future.
Following this announcement, Iā€™m going to try to get started on working on those bios as sort of a preview.
So basically thatā€™s the plan, if youā€™re reading this thank you so much. If youā€™re interested, please stay tuned! Iā€™m going to try to get things moving in the near future with those character bios, so I hope you all enjoy.

Boom Sonamy, Lyric comes back trying to achieve immortality. He needs an exhange of life for a life so a live sacrifice but can't read the rest of the inscription. So he kidnaps Amy again to read the rest of the message otherwise he'll destroy the village and plans to sacrifice her. The gang come to save her and stop Lyric. You can add more to make it more dramatic if you want with a better ending than I can think of ^_^'
I do tend to always just add more, donā€™t I? XD Iā€™m sorry for those who Iā€™ve taken your idea and ran with my own thoughts on it, but I hope itā€™s been satisfactory nonetheless! Working a lot lately, so when I do have time to do the Tumblr Prompt Series (also posted on all my writing sites for viewing pleasure!) I usually do something fun but small. Iā€™ll give it my best, Precious Anon!
Also, Lyric is a veryā€¦ how do I put thisā€¦ Thereā€™s not a whole hecka lot of information on him. I did some research to look back over the games he was in, and even then, it was pretty generic and bland, sorry Lyric fans!
However, sometimes, thatā€™s actually good news. You know why? Shocking, I know! But it means the character is wide open for interpretation and expanding upon them. I wonā€™t be doing that for this fic, necessarily, but I think characters with great potential are usually those that have little information but just enough to peak interest. Itā€™s one of the reasons I felt Amy Rose was a character I could put more lore and backstory on, because although I did study her character, there wasnā€™t a whole lot on her. It made her a canvas that felt ā€˜half-fullā€™, able to be influenced and expanded upon.
However, in recent times, Amy Rose and many other characters like her in different franchises (Not necessarily in personality or role, but just the same level of character-depth and lore, I guess?) have really been given love and more games are coming out with better writing quality than ever before! Iā€™m so glad that so many ā€˜side charactersā€™ are treated as main cast mates, and not just thrown into trope roles anymore.
That being said, you canā€™t escape the occasional ā€˜One-timeā€™ appearances like Lyric being a ā€˜Pops up in maybe Two Games and never againā€™ villain. But it does leave room for us Fanfiction writers to make some interesting depth to further their small legacy! <3
That being saidā€“TUMBLR PROMPT REQUESTS ARE CLOSED, SHUT DOWN ON INBOX, lolol you were waiting for that, werenā€™t ya? >:3c
Hugs and blowing kisses, everyone. Iā€™m definitely taking more time to heal from burnout and also work on Fanfiction Edits (Which are coming along nicely, Iā€™m now back to Instincts, for those who are a fan of that one.), Original Stories (Sorry, probably wonā€™t post them tho :( But books are important! lol), and of course, Tumblr Prompt Series so yall know Iā€™m not dead xD
The tumblr inbox for prompt requests will remain down probably for a few more years. I know that upsets a lot of you, but if they ever do open again, I will be blocking ā€˜Anonā€™ because I think some people are posting more than the actual limit of how many they can submit. Due to this, Iā€™m overwhelmed with hundreds (not joking, by the way.) of requests that I really donā€™t want to do? So weā€™ll be taking time to go back to stories Iā€™ve wanted to write and solo-writing for my fanfictions/other works. Iā€™ve gotta set up stronger boundaries! Haha XD
That being said, please enjoy this Sonic Boom (Feels ancient now) Prompt!
Tumblr media
Prompt:
ā€œUltimate powerā€¦ Although sounding like sweet nectar to oneā€™s ambitious desires, tends to lead to a faulty conclusionā€¦ā€ A snaky whiplash from his claw-tail sent a impulse reflex through Amyā€™s spine, causing her to flinch and her ears to withdraw back again.
She was so mad, tied up to a pillar inside an ancient tomb, having been ambushed while excavating what looked like a madmanā€™s attempt at immortal life.
Roughly translated, a doctor related to Eggman, known as Ivo Robotnik had first discovered this tomb and kept it a secret. He researched and found a successful way to immortalize someoneā€¦ but he failed to interpret the last section of the stone slabā€™s textā€¦
A life for a lifeā€¦ to give Shadow The Hedgehog, his ultimate creation, immortalityā€“to live and breathe forever in the purpose of curing the world of its vital mistakes and sinsā€“he accidentally let his granddaughter, Maria Robotnik, die in the processā€¦
As she read the inscription, Ivoā€™s account tells that her life was being drained from herā€¦ and eventually, was converted in some miraculous way into what was necessary to mechanically engineer this ancient tombā€™s purpose: Infinitely Sustained Life.
Shadow, overwhelmed by the loss of his friend, turned on Ivo Robotnik, and sealed the tomb to never let the tragedy that had befallen here happen againā€¦ until now.
ā€˜Opps.ā€™ Amy thought to herself, annoyed by Lyric carrying on with his wicked monologue about being the last of the ancients, having envied and coveted this technology, but had lost before he could even begin to understand it. ā€˜Iā€™ve been following the late Ivo Robotnikā€™s work in hopes of finding the ancient worldā€¦ I didnā€™t think Iā€™d stumble upon this buttless snake againā€¦ā€™ She sighed quietly, blinking her eyes as though counting subconsciously the seconds before she was to be daringly rescued by her friends.
Againā€¦
ā€˜Why was it always me?ā€™ She grumbled in her thoughts before the second whipping crack of his tail colliding with the ground near her snapped her out of her thoughts again.
ā€œYou remain awfully quietā€¦ thatā€™s offssssseting.ā€ He hissed to her side, which made her lean as far right as she could muster, trying to get away from his anciently stanky breath.
ā€œUpsetting,ā€ She appeared to be clarifying, ā€œThat I have to have my peaceful afternoon so rudely interrupted by the echoes of a delusional reptilian, but I mean, at least Iā€™m complaining internally.ā€ She smirked up to him, showing she wasnā€™t trying to help him, she was just making a snarky comeback.
He shook his head, his lips swerving in their rage as he lifted himself up, completely over her cocky and irritating behavior.
ā€œYou will read the slab for me!ā€ He smashed down his robotic arm by her, and she had to turn her head away from the dust and flying debris of shattered rock taking off from the impact.
ā€œLike Iā€™d die for you!ā€ She badmouthed back, ā€œSonic and my friends will be here any minute. Seems youā€™ve become very fond of our combined butt-whooping, Lyric! I canā€™t fathom any other reason youā€™d keep wishing it upon you, unless it truly makes you feel like you even have a butt to whoop.ā€
ā€œSilence!ā€ He roared up, having the whole of the tomb shake from his vibrating, strong sound before Amy just scoffed.
ā€œFinally, we see snake-eye to hedgehog-eye now.ā€ She leaned back on the pillar she was tied to, taking a nice breath out. ā€œAh~ Now, to await the inevitable victory-WUOO!ā€ She was yoinked practically up, snapping her restraints around her wasit but her arms still behind her back.
Lyric had taken hold of her head, as she kicked the air and tried to hit him while he held her uncomfortably high.
She could probably be alright, but she couldnā€™t use her Enerbeamā€¦ Nor her Piko-Piko Hammer while her arms were still tied-up, although her legs free.
She could feel the squeezing of his robotic claws digging into her cranium, and for the first time that day, she actually showed the tire and wear of having struggled against him for so long.
Not only did she dig her way carefully as she could in here, trying to preserve the ancient relics to study them later, but she had to fight Lyric, and nowā€¦
ā€œIf you will not complyā€¦ā€ He pulled her face towards his own, using his tail to grab her legs and keep them tightly clamped together, making sure her struggle just became ten-times harderā€¦
Her eyes were twitching under the pressurized hold the claws had on her headā€¦ Looking up as she couldnā€™t help but show the strain.
ā€œThen youā€™ll remember an old friend, Iā€™m sureā€¦ā€ He attached a new mind-controller on her, as he let her go and she fell to all fours,... then looked up to show she was fully under his power.
ā€œPerfect~ā€ He chimed, laughing manically, ā€œNow, read it to me!ā€ He slashed his tail against the wall, turning for her to get up and walk towards the slab.
She knelt and held out her two hands to it, reading the rockā€¦
ā€œAt last! My robotic empire! To erase the weak and insipid existence of all living organismsā€¦ā€ He slithered and opened his arms to the murals around the tomb. ā€œTo eternally strive for perfect powerā€¦ the influence of which only the vast superiority of machines can dictate! Eggman was a fool to try and rival meā€¦ You and your friends were mere insects to my reign! Biting and taunting me, getting in my way to distract me from the ultimate purpose of my recreation!ā€ He twisted the wrist joint of his robotic arm and held up his claw-like hand, admiring it. ā€œSoon, even I shall become fully mechanized! With immortality, I can improve my own being once more! No longer half-complete, a mutated cyborg with still my fleshy prison! Butā€¦ I shall shed this weakling flesh to become trulyā€“the immortal mechanized god of this new world!ā€ He struck an all-powerful and imposing pose, but an explosion of rocks and rumbling of the tombā€™s unstabilized structure shook him out of his gloating aside to himself once more.
ā€œWh-what? OFFPH!ā€ A red, shiny shoe smushed with great force against his face, crushing it as Sonic sped into the fight, and Shadow rushed to Amyā€™s side.
ā€œSnap out of it!ā€ He could tell by her faint breathing that she was already losing her life force, the stream of which was moving through the air into the large center dome-like structure above the tomb.
ā€œNoā€¦ not again..!ā€ Shadow cried out, seeing as Lyric was able to actually combat Sonic, who had tried to pin him down but was flung off of him.
Lyric laughed again with the added strength of immortality slowly being converted into him by the strange process of the powerful stream of light waving through the air, coming out of the ball, to then attach to him like a leash.
ā€œSoon, Sonic, all your friends will contribute to is merely delaying the eventual takeover of this planet..!ā€ Lyric, slithering towards Sonic as he kept backing up, felt his body powering up. ā€œEvery muscle in you will eventually wither and dieā€¦ while mine shall stay immaculateā€¦ and whether you continue to prevent me from my destined course of fate or not, sooner or laterā€¦ You will die.ā€ He lunged into Sonicā€™s face, who looked horrified at what he was saying. ā€œWhile Iā€™ll still yet have endless time left in meā€¦ to conquer, maim, and entirely transform this pathetic mossy rock into yet another perfect rendition of what I shall becomeā€¦ Immortality pristine, everlasting, and most importantlyā€¦ā€ He rose himself up into the air, his tail whipping around underneath him. ā€œA robotic masterpiece..!ā€
ā€œAmy..!!!ā€ Shadow gripped at her mindcontrolling device on her head, but it was wedged on tightly this time, ā€œDarn it, woman!ā€ He looked to the slab, she was almost done..!
He closed his eyes, realizing what he must do.
ā€œForgive meā€¦ Maria.ā€ He covered Amyā€™s mouth so she couldnā€™t speak. ā€œI will have to belay my promise to youā€¦ and save this pathetic excuse for a worldā€¦ if only to bring your perfect idealisms to lightā€¦ perhapsā€¦ another day.ā€
He lowered his head and read the last of the inscription, which took his immortality and-
The beam redirected.
ā€œWHAT?!ā€ Lyric landed back on the ground, looking at his robotic arms before turning to finally notice Shadow as he held Amy, giving her back her life forceā€¦
ā€œNOOO!!!ā€ Lyric began to move quickly towards him, but Sonic thomped him yet again to the ground.
He folded his arms, standing triumphantly over him, ā€œLooks like your brilliant plan at eternal robotization backfired yet again, Lyric! Now, youā€™re just softly singing the poetic justice of what happens to those who try and metallically make their own butts to be kicked!ā€ He kicked Lyric as he moved forward with a humorous cry of pain from it.
ā€œShadow?ā€ Sonic then raced to his side, looking at Amy in his arms and having her transferred to his own.
Shadowā€¦ slowly shook his head.
Sonic, worried now, looked down at Amy. ā€œAmy?ā€
She didnā€™t moveā€¦ the light breeze from their entrance now sending the wind to move her three bangs.
ā€œ... Amy?ā€ There was a longā€¦ hard pauseā€¦
The air was still, even Lyric pushed up off the ground, holding his push-up position, and looked to see with a swishing tail if immortality could still be his afterall.
Thenā€¦ her eyes blinkedā€¦
ā€œMiss Rose?ā€ The little blonde human girl was bending down to speak to her, as she got up, rubbing her head.
ā€œWha-... H-huh?ā€ She looked around what seemed like a white space. ā€œAm Iā€¦ dead?ā€ She looked at the girl, gasping, ā€œMaria Robotnik!?ā€
The little girl shyly giggled, gently covering her mouth, ā€œOh, Iā€™m sorry for laughing, this isnā€™t the time nor place for that.ā€ She then curtsied and offered her her hand, ā€œYouā€™re not dead. Iā€™m giving you my lifeā€™s essenceā€¦ the same essenceā€¦ that was used to give Shadow his immortal life.ā€
ā€œW-What?!ā€ Amy scooted away, kicking her feet out from the girlā€™s hand. ā€œThatā€™s ludicrous! I donā€™t want eternal life!ā€ She exclaimed, ā€œIā€¦ I want to grow old with my friends, and have countless adventuresā€¦ a family and eventuallyā€¦ make global peace and end world hunger.ā€ She looked down, ā€œSet up an all-women government and prove that we can organize a better democracy and-ā€
Maria just giggled again, ā€œMany. Big. Dreams.ā€ She gave each word a single note and pause, not necessarily for dramatic flavor or effect, but to show how much they meant to her.
ā€œMany times have I wished for a better world. Bigger and bigger have my heartfelt prayers become. Dreams of an absolutionā€¦ from misery and fire, to passion and compassion reigning evermore on the earth.ā€ She gently offered her hand to Amy again.
ā€œIf you canā€™t accept an immortal lifeā€¦ then accept entirely your own life. All itā€™s happenings. Even the mistakesā€¦ā€
Amy looked at her handā€¦ realizing that without Maria, she would likely never be able to return to life at allā€¦
ā€œIs thisā€¦ really the only way?ā€ Amy held up her hand, but hesitated, looking sweetly at the girl. ā€œIā€™m sureā€¦ W-We could ask Tailsā€¦ We could find a way to bring you back!ā€ She formed a fist, ā€œWe can reverse what this place has done to you!ā€
Maria just smiled like the angel she was. ā€œ... This is the only wayā€¦ā€ She quietly stated, ā€œCome, be at peace. Your friends are waiting for you.ā€
Amy dropped her head, her hand loosening from a determined fist to an open hand again, and looked at it. ā€œ... Dying sure does suckā€¦ doesnā€™t it?ā€ She looked with teary eyes up to the kind, optimistic girl. Her heart wanted to help her, but she was sacrificing herselfā€“yet againā€“for the greater good.
ā€œThank youā€¦ Maria.ā€ She took her handā€¦ as a white light engulfed them.
ā€œNo, Amy Rose. Thank youā€¦ for never giving up on the world we live in. In itā€™s present, so many seek to extend their lives, in fear that they will live to short or not greatly enough. The real life we should long for, is the one weā€™re currently on right now. With so much possibility, with so many endless adventures to takeā€¦ When one begins to stop fearing the future, then can we really live and create it at lastā€¦ the way-...ā€
ā€œWe want to.ā€ Amy finished, as Mariaā€™s voice faded and she opened her actual eyes.
Sonic and Shadow were over herā€¦ Shadow having lost his Immortality, but Amy not gaining it.
Instead, Amy had died and Maria used her life force to give it back to her.
Both mortal now, Amy looked from Sonic to Shadow, and held up a hand to grace his cheek, ā€œSheā€™s lovely.ā€ She smiled kindly to him. ā€œMaria was such a beautiful young girl.ā€
Shadow couldnā€™t hold it back, and cried.
He ducked his head as her hand came gently off and moved to Sonicā€™s chest, patting it lightly, ā€œBoy, does that heart never cease to slow down?ā€ She teased, as Sonic sighed in relief.
ā€œHappy to have you backā€¦ Ames.ā€ He gave her a fond expression, and she leaned her head into his embracing arms, resting in that soft gaze of sweetness he gave her.
ā€œARRGGGAHHH!!ā€ Lyric arched his back, crying out in further outrage. ā€œHOW!? You fools! I will return, I will bring a bigger robotic army, Iā€™ll have you ruing the day you-!ā€
Thereā€™s was a large ā€˜KONK!ā€™ sound as mechanical birds flew around his head while he circled a little in the air and then fell forward, revealing Tails with a large wrench held like a thrown baseball bat, Knuckles with his fists positioned as though they had just hit something as well, and Sticks with her boomerang and one hand on the ground to show she had just caught it.
ā€œMan, to think. Weā€™ve stumbled upon a literal ANCIENT secret governmental conspiracy! Whoo! Glad Iā€™m only living in a time where we have to deal with our modern governmental conspiracies!ā€ She spouted out, looking relieved for some odd reason.
ā€œOh, hey Bestie!ā€ She waved enthusiastically to Amy, who lightly waved back at her, giggling as she came over.
Completely unawareā€¦
Of what just happened here moments before.
ā€œWhat were you up to?ā€ She asked, innocently.
Shadow covered his face from the view of the others, as Sonic looked to him and then to Amy, and helped her to lean up more so she could be sitting comfortably as she twisted her torso to address the others, and mostly answer Sticksā€™s question.
ā€œChanging fate.ā€ She replied, smiling from ear to ear. ā€œAnd hopefullyā€¦ā€
ā€œMaking all of ours a good one.ā€

This is Thanatos, Narinderā€™s Witness and his right hand in his cult before getting imprisoned.
He is my OC and he exists in the world of my story ā€œDeath ā€˜s Promise".
I have published a one shot story on how Foreneus and Narinder met before his imprisonment, in this time Forneus got pregnant with Narinderā€™s children (she found out after she already left to go back to her life, Narinder will discover it only when Shamura brings to him the twins).
Itā€™s not very long and itā€™s pretty quick, but I started to expand on it and I have a full story more detailed in my mind, I donā€™t know if it will be a full comic or a fanfiction for now.
Thanatos is a character invented for this story.
Thanatos lore:
He has been in the cult of Death for a very long time, not since the start of it but he took part to the Great War against the other (now dead) gods, as time went on he became Narinder Witness, becoming the second most important figure in the cult.
Narinder meets Forneus, Thanatos doesnā€™t care for her since itā€™s not uncommon for gods to have mortal companions (even if itā€™s rare for his Lord), he doesnā€™t notice when she left.
Then, only a few months after Forneus left, Narinder gets imprisoned because he managed to create a ritual to bring people back for the Beyond, a thing he has been working in secret on for centuries, since Shamura introduced him to the idea of change.
The other gods of the Old Faith make the Faith of Death taboo and every memeber of the cult has to covert to another Faith, oblivious this is not an option for the members of the higher circle, to faithfully to Death.
Many dies, but Thanatos manages to escape even if injured, leaving Deathā€™s Domain and going far thanks to a teleportation stone.
He hides deep in the woods, unfortunately he is loosing to much blood and, since Narinder has been locked away, he has been quickly loosing his powers and this means he will not survive this injury if he doesnā€™t get help now.
Thanatos is not afraid to die, he welcomes the Beyond with joy but he is saved by Forneus, who heals him after finding him.
When Thanatos wakes up, he is surprised to see Forneus and he immediately feels that there is something divine coming off of her, something she didnā€™t have months ago, he doesnā€™t take long to realize that she is pregnant with Narinderā€™s child, Forneus already knows.
He tells her everything and he decides to accompany her, to help her and protect her as his sworn duty to his Lord.
Time will pass, the twins will be born and be named Aym and Baal, Thanatos will take care of them with love, developing feelings that go beyond what he feels is his duty.
Thanatos thinks that nobody knows who the father of the twins is, but in reality Shamura knows since they had (century before) various visions on their siblings, one of them was about their nephews.
They start to get followed by the God of War followers, Thanatos thinks is about his own presence, so as they run away from the cultists he separates from Forneus and the children.
Thanatos manages to bring with him the whole group, since they lost trace of the other three, they will try to get the information on where they are out of him but he will die in the process.
Unfortunately Thanatos death was useless, because Shamura themself was there and they found the mother with the children without any difficulty.
They will calmily speak with Forneus, explaining that Narinder is alone and that he needs to have his children to keep him company, she doesnā€™t want to get separated from them but she knows she cannot deny a god, so she lets them go praying to Narinder to keep her babies safe.
Centuries later Thanatos will be brought back to life by a new god of Death (under Narinder request after Forneus told him everything), a sheep who is know as the Holy Lamb, he will meet once again his old Lord now undressed of his powers and Crown, and he is assured that Forneus and the twins are fine, happy and together.
He will be gifted the possibility to live a second life, a more peaceful one, as long he wishes for.

Letting y'all that like my Hazbin Hotel rewrite know that I don't necessarily have a full story in mind for it. So, if you want to write your own stories, make your own fanart, or any other types of fan work with my interpretations of these characters and lore, then go right ahead! Only thing I ever really ask is that people tag me in it so that I can see it and show my support by reblogging your work! That, and in this case because I don't have my own title for my rewrite so far, besides "Hazbin Hotel Rewrite", it let's people know who made this specific versions of the characters. That way, if they get interested, they'll know where to go.
I'm pretty well aware that my strength is in character creation and design, and that my short attention span due to my ADHD makes me struggle with writing long stories but more well suited for short stories. So, while I've been imagining that this rewrite would be very long, I know I wouldn't do well at actually writing that story out. So, after I make my own versions of the rest of the main cast, I'll post a Master Post with them and update that once I get design reference sheets done. That way, while I work on mostly just posting short stories for my rewrite, anybody interested can decide to make their own content with them!
I might also turn some of these rewritten characters into like... actual OCs for original content unrelated to Hazbin Hotel. You know, like how some fanfiction has been turned into original stories! Some of my interpretations are very far removed from the source material, so I think it'd be a pretty cool idea to turn them into something different. That doesn't mean I'll stop posting Hazbin Hotel rewrite content with those characters, though. It just means there will be a separate version of the character that I have expanded on in a different setting, probably with a different name and such.

Cyn's Turtle FanFics!
I've seen a few of these Masterpost fanfic clips and I feel like this might be easier to find and deal with rather than updating it chapter by chapter so, let's try this out...
Disclaimer: I DON'T own the turtle boys or any of their content. I'm just a fan that makes stupid stories where I get to have fun putting them through the ringer! Enjoy!

Leo Having A Bad Time FanFictions
Welcome Home Brother
Summary:
Something's been feeling... off, to Leo lately. He feels like someone's been watching him even though no one ever seems to be there. But he's sure it's fine.
At least until a Donatello from a universe he's never seen shows up, calling him 'Nardo' and talking about bringing him home.
He's not sure what's going on, but he knows that he needs to get away from this unstable version of his brother before it's too late.
Trigger Warnings: Just adding this here because Iā€™ve had a few people now message me that they canā€™t continue reading because they werenā€™t expecting the story to get as dark as it does, so I just thought Iā€™d put this here as an extra bit of warning to further readers. This story is not for everyone, and it gets pretty dark and deals with dark subject matter. You are following the life of someone who is grieving the loss of a loved one and canā€™t get over it. It has mental, physical, and emotional abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, body mutilation and violation (though not sexually obviously), murder, death, amputations, forced drug use and brain washing, ect. If any of that bothers you, please keep yourself safe and refrain from reading. Thank you!
If I'm Of No Use, Then Why Am I Still Here?
Summary:
Leo couldn't be happier that his brothers are really growing into themselves and expanding their social circles.
He's excited for them in finding new hobbies and interests that take up their time... a lot of their time... pretty much all of it.
It's fine that they're not as interested in training anymore, or running patrols because Karai's Foot Clan is doing very well to keep the streets of New York safe.
It's fine that he's finding himself spending more and more time alone because even April and Casey are moving on and getting ready to go to college and don't really have any time to spare.
He's happy that everyone seems to be moving on.
Even if there doesn't seem to be any room for him in their lives anymore...
Trigger Warnings: Depression, eating disorders, mild self harm, becoming nonverbal, isolation, loneliness, self-worth issues
TMNT 2012 September Challenge
Summary:
(Wish me luck o this one...)
This is a TMNT 2012 September Challenge from Tumblr.
Not all of these will be shipping ones. A lot of them will probably have nothing to do with that. But they will be labeled in the chapters. :)

When Leo accidentally gets blood on the new doll Mikey gave him seconds before Casey stole the thing, he didn't think much of it.
At least... not at first.
Not until he starts to feel this weird pressure like someone's in the room touching him, even if no ones there. Sometimes it's little pets on his head, or an odd sensation across his hand like someone's holding it, sometimes it just feels like he's being... held. Surrounded on all sides in a comfortable heat and weight like he's snuggled under the worlds most comfortable blanket.
He doesn't think much of it until that pressure is joined by a voice. A voice that sounds a little muffled at first but that eventually comes through loud and clear. A very familiar voice.
A voice telling him all kinds of things he's sure he was never supposed to hear.
Mating Season Blues!
2012 Casey Jones / 2012 Leonardo
Summary:
Casey and Leo have been dating for a few months now and Casey couldn't be happier! Leo's a great boyfriend! So sweet and thoughtful and cuddly... Very cuddly. Especially lately. And what's his deal with gifting Casey living animals and feeding him by hand? Meh, he's sure it's fine.
Casey and Leo go through their first Spring together and neither are prepared for how strongly Leo's urges to take care of his mate are going to be.
This is a no sex spring story because I just wanted it to be cute and fluffy. :) Enjoy!

ā€œIā€™m pretty sure if you help me, it will be against the rules.ā€ ā€œSo thatā€™s what this is hm? You lost a bet to Mikey?ā€ Deciding that Casey had been with them long enough it wasnā€™t surprising that he managed to figure it out that fast, Leo met his smirk with a flat stare. ā€œNo. I just thought Iā€™d try out a new wardrobe.ā€ Casey snickered at his sass, putting the hand towel back before joining his side at the island. ā€œYou should stick with it. Itā€™s a good look for ya Blue.ā€
Or, Leo loses a bet which leaves him to be the one on cooking duty for the night, in the girlest apron Mikey could find. Casey's not complaining on the new look and is quick to insert himself in the role of helping out to make sure he doesn't burn the whole lair down.

Fix It Wednesday - Caryl Fanfiction Rec
Today's rec is for all my fellow carylers who still dislike the Daryl Dixon's spin-off/can't feel excited for TBOC and lament what could have been. Your feelings and opinions are valid; this fandom is big enough for all of us. šŸ’—
as long as the day is full of time written by averita/ @catelyngrant is posted on 9Lives and AO3.
Summary: New Mexico is hot and dry. or, five endings that would have made more sense than the one we got. Rating:Ā T / Teen and Up Audiences Word count:Ā 2.324 Published:Ā November 26, 2022Ā - ONE-SHOT
Five endings beautifully written and that make sense for Carol and Daryl even when they are not what we would like. If you're not up for angst, pay attention to the author's note and, maybe, read only the second and fifth. I especially love the first ending, because I can't bear the idea of ā€‹ā€‹them being separated forever - and, before Mel/Carol's return to TBOC, this was my deal breaker with TWD:DD. They belong together. Our author writes with so much love for our favorite characters (the way she uses adjectives and adverbs to build the rhythm of the narrative and conceive feelings is superb) that I wish each of the happier endings were expanded upon in multi-chapters AU stories. I don't want to spoil any more of this fic, but I'll highlight two quotes that deserve all the praise: Darylā€™s face crumples, just a little, and this time she reaches for him. He presses their foreheads together and they share air until theyā€™re both steadier, both solid, and when he smiles she does too. and Itā€™s the sort of happy ending this world isnā€™t made for anymore, and it knocks the breath right out of him because even nowā€”evenĀ now, in the deepest, most shameful, and most honest part of his heart, he canā€™t help but think the cost was too high.
As always, if you do read this, dear fellow caryler, remember to leave a kudos or a nice review. Feedback is love. Caryl on!

ROTTMNT Fanfiction Library
All my fics are posted exclusively on Ao3! The site's guest-friendly so you don't need an account. Fair warning that I harbour TONS of favouritism towards Donnie, so most of my stories are about him. I'll organise them and include word counts and a short description!
Any and all warnings will be in the tags of the fics themselves. I haven't written anything too dark for Rise (yet), but everyone has varying levels of comfort and sensitivity. Put yourself first and read accordingly!
I personally use "Whump" to mean fics focused on physical injuries, and "Angst" to mean emotional/mental pain. All of my fics include comfort!
Feel free to hit up my asks for any questions! I love to yap about my fics.
~~~
Goldenwind Riseverse (In chronological order)
The main series, if you will! These fics are primarily canon-compliant, but include my own interpretations, expansions, and headcanons both grounded and not. They may reference each other, they may not, but they've all happened.
Also, Autistic Donnie is my favourite thing to tackle and write about. Expect LOTS of fics about or featuring his autistic experience and struggles, inspired by my own at times.
My ideas have expanded the more I write, so the 'older' fics might be missing some things (like tails), but are still canon to the Goldenverse.
Champion of the Water (4K, Turtle Tots, barely Donnie-centric but Leo POV, fun & games; a holding-your-breath contest reveals an interesting softshell 'power' of Donnie's)
A Turtle's Best Friend (9K, S1 Repo Mantis, Donnie-centric, angst-to-fluff; Donnie begrudgingly gets a doggo)
A Living Stone Against the Pavement (4.4K, S1 Purple Jacket, Donnie&April-centric, whump; Donnie gets hurt & April has to save him)
Paper Burns in the Third Degree (10K, S1 original, Mikey-centric, whump; the Mad Dogs have to escape a burning library after an explosion)
The Egg Pan (2.7K, S1 ambiguous, Disaster Twins-centric, humour, autistic VS normie; the twins fight over a pan with a predetermined purpose)
Staying Sane in the Mama Train (2.6k, S1 Insane in the Mama Train, Donnie-centric, angst, in losing his identity; Donnie must also give up his accommodations)
Stadium of a Hundred Needles (4.4k, Series ambiguous, Donnie-centric, angst/whump; Donnie battles sensory overload at a Yokai sports game)
System Glitch (I think I am) (8.5K, S2 original, Donnie-centric, 11pm musings; Donnie questions the probability of his disability and goes to Draxum for answers)
Existance of the Metaphorical 'Wrong Side' (6K, S2 ambiguous, Donnie-centric, angst/whump; Donnie does stupid things after waking up sad/stressed and Repo Mantis chooses to be a decent person about it)
The Hilarity of the Difficult Son (4.9K, S2/Post S2 Original, Splinter&Donnie-centric, two scenes; Donnie 'comes out' as autistic and Splinter doesn't like it at first, but is later forced to accept it)
~~~
A Butterfly with a Mechanical Wing AU
A miniature alternate universe where only one thing is different: Donnie is a nonspeaking autistic and communicates through alternate means. The purpose of this series is to explore a new type of normal and perhaps tackle some challenges a nonspeaker would face. Don't worry, he's treated mostly the same by his family, just with more accommodations. He also retains his wonderful personality.
Full disclaimer, I am a speaking autistic and do not wish to speak FOR anyone. This is mainly a creative/fun exercise to explore alternate means of communication (which fascinate me) and is not meant to reflect a true nonspeaking experience.
Series Link
A Cause to Celebrate (3.3K, Leo POV, fun & games, the boys throw April a party after a successful round of mid-terms)
The Poisonous Platter (3.4k, Raph POV, mission, the Mad Dogs have to stop another one of Meat Sweats' nefarious plans)
A Chameleon Effect (11k, rotating POV, humorus incident, the mad dogs eat chocolates that performs the ol' soul switcharoo)
Love Me Just the Same (4.4k, Donnie POV; Donnie fears that being nonspeaking will put him at odds with the newly freed founder of his clan)
I have plans for more stories in this AU, and look forward to writing and sharing them!
~~~
I hope you found something of interest! I hope to deliver many more fics as time goes on. My ADHD gives me endless ideas, but writing them is the true challenge.
Arrivederci, fellow nerds!
9th feb '24 - [arch] characters, interactions and emotion - making a mini webcomic
Gahhhh Shri this has been an absolutely crazy couple of weeks!!!! Hope you are doing well :)) First of all, WOW! You have a lot of goals, and Iā€™m sure youā€™ll get them done! Iā€™ve worked a lot on my graphic design during the process of making Winter Wellbeing. If you wanna see a blog post dedicated just to that, I can do so! It would be cool to compare notes on the approaches we take for graphic layouts. If you wanna share your knowledge of camera skills when you build that up that would be awesome šŸ˜šŸ˜
Itā€™s been a tough few weeks, art wise. I have been reflecting on my process, motivations to create, the ego and all the baggage thatā€™s lumped into the creative process for me. It turns out thereā€™s a lot. I took some space from my illustration practise (literally for a weekend!) and began to realise how dysfunctional it is. Iā€™ve been writing a lot about that so there may be a larger piece of writing coming about that at some point (no promises!!)
But for now, let's talk about little successes!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Iā€™ve been playing with some characters for a while but Iā€™d hit a bit of a block with the plot. I realised the expectation of having a finished project of high quality soon is unrealistic, and an unhealthy expectation to put on myself. I rarely give myself time to play with concepts for a long time and let the characters, plot and interactions evolve naturally. Maybe this in part came from sticking to the short university module turnaround. I noticed that that short turnaround was causing a lot of block, so I have decided to bench it as a comic for now and focus on using it as a playground - falling in love with the characters, creating stories and drawing them for fun. Maybe years down the line Iā€™ll make them into a comic - we shall see!Ā
I *tried* to do hourly comics day this year and it didnā€™t quite work for me. I think I made 3 comics? And then got distracted with a bigger project that ended up taking a week or so to complete. Letā€™s have a look at it, shall we?
[you can find the full version here]
First of all, itā€™s based on an unfinished fanfiction I started a couple of months ago, which was mostly bad, but there was one nice scene that I liked and wanted to expand on. I started by having a look at the script I wrote and thumbnailing on the iPad. Iā€™m away from home at the mo and usually would prefer to do most of my artwork traditionally, but because I donā€™t have access to a scanner, the whole process was digital this time. A lot of the pages got scrapped because the dialogue wasnā€™t necessary, and Iā€™m not drawing pages that arenā€™t necessary.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
some more development screenshots
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I thought a lot about posing during the process, acting the scenes out in my mind and sometimes physically, really understanding the emotions of the characters, why theyā€™re saying what theyā€™re saying, their tone and how to convey that though their body language and expression (i find grian really annoying normally [affectionate] but I want this grian to step on me).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pearl was hard with this because sheā€™s quite erratic and unpredictable in this series, so I wanted her to switch from raw explodey anger to playful jabs at Grian. Iā€™m hoping this comes across as somewhat insane, rather than tonally off and inconsistent. I did super enjoy drawing her and her explosive nature though, especially in comparison to Grianā€™s coldness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I played with levels and monotone colour too - Iā€™m not working with multiple colours much at the moment so Iā€™m able to focus on things like values composition, characters and backgrounds. My skills limit the kind of stories I can tell currently, so Iā€™m working to improve those foundations. Maybe when Iā€™m back in the riso studio I can play with colours a little more.
Colours - despite the simple pallete it gets a bit nerdy here.I stuck to specific flat percentages for most of it - Pearlā€™s hair and Grians jumper are 60%, Grianā€™s hair and Pearlā€™s cloak are 20%. Then I added a 14% layer for shadows, using a ahrd blend eraser tool for highlights, making the images quite dark. I fill a layer with texture from Forystrā€™s riso brush for procreate, and turn it into a 40% opacity colour dodge layer. This gives it some much needed texture and makes the lighting feel low and nighttimecore. It also pushes the values to look really nice - I tend to be too scared to push them by myself.
I tried a few different colour layers to get a *vibe* but settled on a low percentage riso blue in a colour layer. All layers besides the riso blue are in a riso black, colour picked from a riso colour pallete. I learnt these tools - using percentages to get good values - from working with risograph. I really recommend having a look at these techniques and doing some monotone work. It's really improved by character designs, page layouts and compositions.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's all from me today, though I have had MANY other thoughts over the past two weeks about creating, but perhaps we'll dive into them another time. If you (or anyone else) has any questions, hit me up with a reblog or an ask and I will get right to it. Lovely to hear from you! Hope your art is going great too :)) Arch :)
fanfiction is worth way more than you might think it is. here's why.
something i don't think anybody ever talks or thinks about is how fanfic helps writers develop incredibly useful skills and tools in the same way that prompts, worksheets, and studying literature does. (i actually think it's much more accessible than many of those types of supposedly helpful methods to build good writing skills. fanfiction makes the possibilities limitless while building upon media that people love and really connect with. you can find whatever you want if you use the right tags in AO3.) to illustrate exactly what i mean, i present these points:
*NOTE: if you're not familiar with fanfic terms, i'll define them as i go! i'm also an AO3 user, so i'll be using that as a basis for a lot of my thoughts.
itā€™s a really helpful way to get a grasp of how to keep characters consistent in a piece, since you have to work with characters that already have established personalities, backstories, habits, and character traits that carry over from their source material. this can get a bit tricky when writing AUs (alternate universes) or canon divergences (hopefully self-explanatory) in particular, but if you acknowledge that characters are OOC (out of character), this can solve that issue pretty quickly and as long as you make everything make sense within context, you're golden. not only that, but you can fix any flaws that you perceive in a character by adding in your own headcanons (personal ideas/beliefs about a character) or by creating realistic traits in that character that don't exist in canon but make sense for the character. this also works for expanding upon canon traits that are never explored to their full potential in canon.
a great example of this would be tony stark in the MCU. a lot of fanfic interpretations of his character put a stronger focus on his anxiety and PTSD, since the movies hint at those traits existing, but don't do them a lot of justice. another good example that's a bit more broadly applicable is LGBT+ or neurodivergent headcanons. if you really identify or kin with a character and feel that they have a certain orientation, gender identity, or mental disorder/condition, you can make it happen! this often has the great side effect of opening up a lot of possibilities for writing those traits into that character and how they affect the world and other characters around them differently than in canon.
you can think of an almost infinite amount of different scenarios to put characters and story events in. i mentioned AUs and canon divergences above, but there are also fanfic tropes like everybody lives/nobody dies, kidfic, time loop/time travel, role swap, missing scene, and even omegaverse (i'm not explaining that one to you, you're on your own pal) that offer different possibilities for putting characters and story events in all sorts of circumstances and contexts that differ from canon. (continuity soups are one of my very favorite examples of this technique. in a continuity soup, an author working with a franchise that has multiple different continuities can cherry-pick aspects of each continuity they like and smash them all together into a single world. this technique works especially well with transformers, which has, at this point, almost a dozen different continuities that are in fact all canon at the exact same time.) a writer doing this learns how to translate certain necessary story events into a completely different world, or can come up with a whole new world, storyline, or context on their own to play with plot, conflict, characters, and story events.
there are a near-limitless number of AUs out there, and every AU that is widely used comes with its own set of tropes. tropes are another useful tool for writers, because they can either be cliche or they can actually be very helpful for building a compelling plot or for introducing characters in a certain way. there are even fanfic genre tropes that exist, like hurt/comfort, fluff, whump/angst, slow burn, enemies to lovers, dead dove do not eat, crackfic... the list goes on!
writers who have difficulty writing things like romance, intimacy, emotional turmoil, injuries, sci-fi, or magic can easily learn a lot from how different fic writers write those topics (and many others). there are tons of fics that focus a lot on one specific genre and whose authors have developed a really great understanding of how to write those genres. not only can you learn a lot in terms of how to write genre, but you can also learn to develop your own writing style. this is one of the reasons why i think fanfiction is a lot more accessible than traditional books and classics. sure, you could read danielle steel novels or fifty shades of grey (which is itself fanfiction!!) or 1984 by orson welles, but unless you're really invested in the worlds being created, you'll find it harder to appreciate the prose. and, a lot of fic writers are not professional writers, so they don't even care about prose! (this is a broad generalization, and i mean "prose" in a more academic sense because i am literally studying rhetoric and prose for my bachelor's degree. not a lot of fic authors are breaking down writing styles for dialogue, diction, or sentence structure. they just write what they love writing and often develop their own styles out of that, which is also just as valid.)
i myself have definitely not been reading as many books in recent years as i've read fanfics. i go through fanfics like wildfire through a dry field. finding fic authors i love reading has really helped me improve my writing style! not only that, but i feel confident to try writing real romances with kissing scenes, to use actual scientific language to describe in-text phenomena, to describe magical objects and worlds with more clarity, and even to try my hand at writing smut. i've learned to break out of my comfort zone thanks to fanfiction, and it's helped me become a much better writer.
developing a writing style through reading other authors' work is much like developing an art style. any artist knows that you're encouraged to create your own style by mashing together traits from other artists' styles you really love and making them into something that's wholly your own. writing works the exact same way. one of my professors last semester had us do an "apprenticeship" with a short story collection written by a certain author to open us up to styles we like and don't like. she said that's how you create your own style, by figuring out what you like and what you don't like. i've been doing this with fic authors for years, and let me tell you, there are some real literary geniuses out there.
fanfiction helps writers learn to accept criticism as well as suggestions for what to write next. one of the hardest parts of being a writer is having someone read your work and tell you there's something wrong with it. your peers do it, your professors do it, editors do it, publishers do it. i've had the great privilege of participating in multiple writing workshops as part of my university education, but it can be really, really hard to find or create writing workshops outside of an academic setting. sites like AO3 cut out the middleman and bring authors right to their audiences. anyone can leave kudos on a fic if they liked it, and anyone can comment on a fic and chat directly with an author. i know for a fact that most authors regularly check and read the comments sections on their fics for feedback, criticism, and requests for what to write next. you can't necessarily do that with big-time authors like stephen king; youā€™d have to send a letter that may never be read.
the closest thing this system of interaction comes to is voice actors hopping on twitch streams and taking requests from viewers to say all kinds of things in-character. (this actually has the added benefit of inspiring new and interesting fic ideas.) the community on AO3 is genuinely one of the most accepting and welcoming internet spaces i've ever existed in, with possibly the exception of tumblr. fic authors really value feedback, and they love when people leave comments. sometimes they write fic just for themselves, but sometimes they do it for their audiences too! there's a really deep appreciation for source material and fanon (fan canon) alike in the world of fanfiction, and a lot of that is fostered in the author-audience connection. this is invaluable as a beginning writer, because it can help establish criticism as a valuable tool and not something to fear.
it can be scary when you put so much love into something and people don't like it. but fic readers are some of the most encouraging, wonderful people ever. you can trust them to offer valuable feedback and actually constructive criticism.
in short, fanfiction is a bit like placing a kid into a sandbox that only has a select few toys in it and letting them play however they want. so much creativity can come out of working within certain restraints, and it can really help you develop a lot of skill you might not develop otherwise. more aspiring writers should writeā€”or at least readā€”fanfiction so they can reap some of these benefits. i wish it were more widely discussed in universities, at the very least, because there is so much to learn from fanfiction.
and if you really think fanfiction is only for gross internet weirdos, i remind you of fifty shades of grey being fanfic of twilight, or that city of bones, the first mortal instruments book, was originally a ginny/draco fanfic. i don't even need to mention the sheer number of more recently published romcom books that are based off of reylo from the star wars sequels. plus, if you really think about it, most modern shakespeare adaptations and homages (10 things i hate about you, leo dicaprio's romeo and juliet, the lion king) are fanfiction! there's no shame in making media of what you love. there's no shame in loving anything in the first place. do what makes you happy, and chances are you'll learn something along the way.
Gimme your OC ramblings! 1, 4, 19, 23, 26, 39
Your first OC ever?
AH, I LOVE THIS ONE. I think the first story I wrote was a "gurl" and her father who were ranchers, and miscellaneous bad guys came and stole their horses. They were all unnamed, afaik.
The first story I wrote with original characters I really imprinted on was... God, it was so long ago. I still have the notebook in my writing drawer somewhere. It was about a girl who ran away because she turned into a shapeshifting werewolf. Pretty sure her name was Ishtas. Her guy friend/later love interest revealed himself to be a shapeshifting werewolf and went with her. I just remember him as Hakan. There was a third friend(?) who got in an argument because he said running away was really dumb, and I think became a villain several arcs later?? (He was also a werewolf who tracked them down and tried to kill Hakan for... idk, reasons.)
This was a massive epic in my head and notebook that kept expanding because I didn't know how to end it. They went to Alaska, started a wolf pack, became friends with Balto, got involved with Alue's pack, settled down, got attacked, got kidnapped and then poisoned by wolf hunters????? Tried to make it home, and then I remember stopping because it was getting weird and 39 Clues fanfiction was taking up a lot of my time.
In retrospect, I think I read Watership Down and Call of the Wild too young as a kid. xD
4. A character you rarely talk about.
Once upon a teenager, I was writing an original story based on the premise of a colony on the moon, a post-apocalyptic earth, and something about ghosts being real. I stopped writing halfway through because I lost the plot in Iceland, but the protagonist was called Jean Shea and I still fucking love her, tbh.
Her job was to record peoples' stories around the world after the apocalypse happened. They worked in circuits ending in... Switzerland...? so one circuit was through Africa and the Middle East, one through Eurasia, one along mid to east America, one along mid to west America. Multiple people in 1 year cycles worked a circuit, so however long it took to walk the full circuit, divided by years = people on the circuit recording stories.
[This is sounding cooler retyped than it was in the story. xD I did not put much thought into the job itself as a teenager.]
Anyway, for as long as Jean could remember, there was a voice in her head that called itself Edward. She always dismissed it, but later in the story, Edward turns up and literally crash lands in New York City, claiming he escaped from a moon base that was set up from people escaping the apocalypse and his organization was doing experimental mind telepathy to infiltrate Jean's organization, which was actually the evil one because they were actually only recording people to see what resources were available to take over the world, not because they wanted to record history for posterity.
ANYWAY. Jean has to do her job, walk up the rest of the North American coast, manage this crash landed moon man that knows her whole entire life with heretical opinions, and she also adopts a ghost boy whose ties to the land were cut. She has so many issues and only wants to be a historian. Fucking love her. xD
19. Introduce an OC that means a lot to you (and explain why).
*holds up Westlie Faire*
I know I post a lot about her, but Westlie means so much to me. She was the first original character I've felt the compulsion and ability to complete her story. Theoretically she's a self-insert character, but I don't see her that way since I just thought it'd be fun to play a navigator running away from home.
Additionally, because I care so much, I feel like she's taught me about storytelling, my preferences in storytelling, how to write. I struggle making characters even though I've written stories ever since I could hold a pen because my focus is more on... their reactions? What kind of person would do this in this situation. So without a set plot/world, it's hard for me to see the options and craft characters who'd take the plot where it needs to go.
But that's only something I've learned because of the Liztlie AU. I just blamed myself for a long time for not being able to finish original fiction.
(Actual description of Westlie: Red hair, Victorian rolled bun, rather short, petite, brown walking skirt and waistcoat. Professional and reserved demeanor, unless she's quite familiar with the person she's engaging with. Loves math. Escapes into maps. Has a righteous temper. Heir to the Fairweather Company, run by her father Arthur Faire. Resents Arthur for chaining her to Fairweather's desk and never acknowledging or appreciating the work she's done. Terrified of failure.)
23. Introduce OC that has changed from your first idea concerning what the character would be like?
Myra Greystone (Ellenville) has probably changed the most. Her original concept was based off song lyrics of 'victim of a name', 'blood on the tracks', and 'not going back'. So originally I imagined her as not a protagonist, middle-aged, killing her father, and mourning her identity, and she kind of helps the protagonists in a roundabout repentance way.
Now, she's grown to be the protagonist because I love her concept so much, and kind of mashed a few other characters into her. She has the additional deranged goal of bringing her sister back to life, and in that context, helps other characters (and leaves them hanging) to achieve her own ends.
26. Have you ever had to change your OC's design or something else about them against your will?
We were playing dnd with Westlie and she rolled badly on landing in the darkness, I think. Up until that point I'd rp'ed her as pretty competent with navigating, and then everyone took the bad roll and ran with it. :P
39. Introduce any character you want.
I'll be real, I think I introduced most of my characters/stories here. xD I don't actually have a lot of OCs, and the Liztlie AU is wrapping up....
Fuck it, lol. When I was really into the 39 Clues fandom, I worked on my magnum opus of the time, which was a huge "life story" of the founding characters. They essentially became my OCs.
However, there was one original character, because I gave Madeleine (protagonist) a friend who was a farm hand. His name was Edward, and he helped her escape her family trying to kill her. Then they ran away to Spain, fell in love, got married, ran to the Netherlands, and there I gave him a incredibly fucked up and tragic backstory where the dikes broke and drowned his whole family. He taught Madeleine how to skate and she met his adopted parents, and everything was fine until oh no- the dike broke again and there were two children whose parents also died and I spent three chapters developing their relationship with these children AND THEN THEY DIDN'T ADOPT THEM. There was a timeskip, they had kids, and then Edward died in a fire.
BUT ANYWAY. He was actually really cool and kind of started my trend with wholesome characters dealing with a bunch of fucked up shit? 10/10 would actually write about Edward again.
(Also the whole point of the story was that all the founders came back to life in the modern era after ~tragically dying~ so Edward dying was not permanent and it's all okay.)
I saw a fellow anon talk about Say My Name and decided to reread it. Omg - I think thatā€™s one of my top 3 of yours (though that changes a lot as theyā€™re all so so so good!) if you write Anthonyā€™s POV - would you consider sharing a glimpse into their HEA era? I craved it so much after reading that last line ā€œI love you, Anthonyā€ and wondered about them. Hell if Iā€™m honest I wonder about all your versions of Kanthony and make up my own HC about them šŸ¤£ which I guess is the beauty of fanfiction - itā€™s a constant journey of creation by the writer and the reader right? Ok Iā€™m rambling now but haha THANKS SO MUCH for sharing your talent with the Kanthony world!!!!
Thank you so much! Yes, there will be some Kanthony in their HEA era - I didn't want to just do the same story I've already written but from his POV, so I decide to expand it to events both before and after If I lose myself tonight/Say my name.
I make up things for fics I love all the time. I end things where it makes sense in my mind to end them, and I still strongly believe that to write out the full HEA for every story (marriage, kids, etc.) would get repetitive after a while. That said, I love to hear people's headcanons because they're often something I wouldn't have thought of myself, and I use reader ideas in my fics all the time. That engagement is one of my favorite things about writing fic.
So I just finished Dungeon Meshi. The manga.
I am yet again blown away by the amazing story. I am also blown away by the fanfiction fandom and it's incessant need to ship anyone and everyone. I get it. You think some of the interaction are romantic. They aren't. That's not what any of this is meant to be. But I get it. Romance ships have their own place in the ecosystem and any healthy community has a dedicated group that really likes to ship anyone and everyone.
It becomes less healthy when I go to AO3 and you can go through pages and pages only finding like two or three fics that aren't ENTIRELY "Two random characters have the sex" with occasional romantic undertones. Of those three that aren't just that, two are instead "cleverly crafted AU but the focus is still on the secks". People I get it, it's nice, it's got, and by god everyone is horny for the Faligon x Marcille ship. I get it, I do.
But the story has so many interesting aspects to it! I'd go as far as to say it's a modern day Lord of the Rings! I really fucking would, and I love LotR like no other story on this fucking planet! I'm barely holding back from gushing about it right fucking now. I'm taking deep breaths.
Look, my point is, it's an amazing story about friendship and genuine camaraderie, the sort of thing that sends the message of "people can forget extremely strong bonds without having the hots for one another." The story, beyond it's generally tasteful comedy and the repetitive but reliable skits, is chock-full of meaningful messages, pondering and it has some of the most beautiful and tasteful conclusions to story arcs I've seen in a while! I'd go so far as to say it's fairly innovative as well, not unheard of but you don't see something this good all that often. You really don't. I usually obsess over just sticking FromSoft protagonists into everything to have them fuck around and mess with everything but for once I'm genuinely unappreciative of the idea. The conclusion to the story is perfect if very traditional in a certain sense and all in all it's got very few real flaws. In the end, a very simple, kind and good lad alongside his party of misfits saves the day and everyone gets to live happily ever after.
So why the shit is almost everyone only ever thinking about hot ladies or hot men fucking each other? No, actually, forget the distinction, it's irrelevant! Why is sex with a side of corny romance the only thing everyone is doing?! Fuck, make literally anything else! I get having a niche but for Christ's sake expand your horizons or something! FF doesn't even have the damn tag for the setting yet, AO3 is just porn and SpaceBattles only has Vs discussions and one single story ideas thread that I myself also sperged out in while I was only halfway done.
Christ, there are so many ideas in my head it's actually hard to focus! What about a serious setting examining the end of the story and how it could have gone on? Remake it into a tragedy, or just a feels-good epilogue that's only slightly longer than the story. How about tossing someone you KNOW would mess up the story into the story, but have it be so messed up it loops back around to the same end? Why not just do something really stupid and see where it leads? What if Laios and Kabru switched places? What if Laios and Falin were in Utaya when they were young (they're still the same people inherently just with a more tragic backstory) while Kabru is just some country schmuck that no longer has a tragic story to spur him on to the Dungeon? Does Kabru actually become even more of a textbook hero type? Would the Touden siblings let their past bog them down and make them gloomy or would it only make them more aware of the world around them and thus more willing to look at the other? The story establishes that they're inherently selfish people - they are of course also selfless, but the initial drive for the story is a selfish one for pretty much everyone. Laios just wants to look at and eat cool monsters. Falin wants to tag along and experience new things. Marcille wants to research ancient, forbidden magic. Chilchuck... Uh... Wants to make money and not be constantly scammed at best and backstabbed at worst, I think. Senshi just kind of wants to vibe. Izutsumi wants to stop being a beast-person and is by far portrayed as the most openly selfish in everything she does and decides.
The whole story is really about people being selfish and realizing that's no good, realizing that the people around them are PEOPLE and they should maybe consider each other more. That's how Laios learns to take responsibility, for instance. Oh sure some characters end up not ACTUALLY bring selfish at all, some of them right from the start even, but narratively until told otherwise we start off thinking everyone in the main group are first and foremost in it for themselves. The unifying moment and first instance of selflessness comes when they decide to immediately go rescue Falin - well, Shuro and Namari didn't but we don't know that right away.
Look what I'm saying is there's so many fucking themes in this story and what everyone is focusing on is sex. My argument isn't "sex bad", in fact. It's that the porn with plot - or even the tasteful romance stories - would be even better if you had some other nice fics alongside them. After all, if you eat the same thing the whole time it's bound to become boring eventually, but have a good spread and every part of the meal will be all the better in combination with other parts. If I just ate soup I'd be kind of disappointed, but make some simple rice and cook some simple meat for AFTER the soup and now both the soup and rice and meat feel so much better based on the other things I ate alongside them. Fics are the same. Please. I beg you. Give yourselves some diversity.
