Neo-Anthropocene: From pets to people, the history of the Ruuik species of Irou

Originally drawn and written in august 2022

Introduction: During the initial first contact with the Ikleudd, humanity would soon discover another shocking revelation, not only were they no longer alone in the vast cosmos, but the Ikleud had not been alone either. For tens of thousands of years, they have been in harmony with another species they have uplifted, and they called themselves the Ruuik

Physical Adaptations: Much like many of their relatives in a clade known as Radapillupoda, the Ruuik sport a fur coat in order to regulate their temperature and to blend in with their environment.

Their exoskeletons, compared to many other Radiathopods, are considerably more flexible, allowing the size and complexity of their brain to expand.

Their feet have become more flexible and developed joints, and their beaks are now opposable and double jointed. They have used these two abilities to manipulate their environment, grasp and craft objects. Their antennas are flexible and move independently to display emotions as well as provide refined sensory.

They are surprisingly agile and strong, to accommodate their softer exoskeleton they have far greater muscle mass, allowing them to run for long periods of time, and strike with lots of force. And their dexterous claws allow them to climb surprisingly well.

Also heavily contrasting the Ikleud, The Ruuik range from 0.6 meters / 2 feet to 1.2 meters / 4 feet tall

Ecology and Niche: The Ruuik fill an ecological niche similar to hyenas and domestic cats. They have a wide and diverse diet, and are capable of eating pretty much anything. From seeds to fruits and grasses, soft bodied invertebrates, to even small and large Mollimembruds, Soft bodied invertebrates distantly related to the Radiathopods. Duvirecthids, fish like "vertebrates" somewhat related to the Tivarapods. radiathopods, Radially symmetrical exoskeletal invertebrates the Ruuik hail from. And even tivarapods, the titanium-boned, seemingly "2 headed" vertebrates the Ikleud hail from. 

Communication: They communicate using a series of clicks, taps, and grinding created by their beak, and can create noises similar to vowels by expelling air out of their spiracles. Since there's not really any specific place on their body to show expression, they utilize body language even more than the Ikleud. They will wave out their arms, fludder their antennas, and can even modify the way they move in order to express themself.

Behavior: Despite their physical adaptations, their strength and agility, It’s still not enough for a lone Ruuik to defend itself against other predators. Because of this, they have become very social just like humans and Ikleudd.

They usually form groups of 3-5 individuals in order to ensure not only their survival, but everyone elses. They care very deeply of each other, when not in combat or hunting Ruuikk will often engage in play and socialization to strengthen their bonds. However, despite how social and crafty they sounded, for most of their evolutionary history they could only be classified as nearly sapient, akin to corvids or apes.

Prehistory: Ruuikk as a species first evolved a little over a million years ago, and managed to diversify in such a small evolutionary time frame. Their diverse diet allowed groups of Ruuik to focus on specific strategies, They ranged from foraging “herds” that would gather up plant matter and enjoy the simple life, to simple hunter-gatherer societies, to warrior packs that would hunt down irolope herds and fight off songwolf packs.

Unfortunately some 110,000 years ago a disease ravaged these societies, and by the time the disease was repelled, it was already too late as all their societies collapsed and they were sent back to square one.

Domestic history: Millenia later, when Ikleudd began migrating to northern Intrapa and underwent an agricultural revolution. They understood the Ruuikk’s wide food palette could protect their farms from pests and unwanted weed analogs. So they would domesticate the surviving Ruuikk and protect them, and when continental trade was established, Ruuikk would begin migrating across all of Intrapa. Throughout history, the Ruuik have been slowly learning more and more about the world around them, and became more intelligent and prosperous as millenia passed.

Eventually when the Ikleudd became a global civilization comparable to earth’s early information age, they discovered how truly intelligent their pets were, and efforts to intentionally make them intelligent started, which sped up their rise in intelligence. All culminating in the start of the 3000s when the groundbreaking news was revealed that the first truly sapient Ruuik had been born.

Modern day and conclusion: Now in the 3160’s, the Ruuik have become a prosperous and fully sapient species under the guidance and protection of the Ikleud, They joined their companions on the frontiers of space exploration and helped the Ikleudd and more recently the humans in constructing a prosperous and nearly utopian civilization. The Ruuik have gone from simple pets, and ascended to being people.

The scene: Pictured above is Evhnuut Vasaluu-Tohkheru, an Ikleud farmer shaking hands with her Ruuik companion Evhnuut Vasaluu-Chi’ki’da after a long day of taking care of their farm. Behind them is a typical Ikleud-Ruuik city connected by transit bridges over vast swathes of forests and prairies. and above is a space-station home to nearly a million residents and is the trade hub of the entire Vei system, the solar system the Ikleudd-Ruuikk hail from and call home.

“You always make this look much more difficult than it is, Spider-Man!” you call.

Peter is a little busy getting his head smashed into a wall to answer you. “Fuck! Hey, man, are you trying to graduate from robber to murderer? ‘Cos you’re getting there,” he says, shooting the front of a web into the robber’s face before ducking under his arm and quickly climbing up the opposite wall. He smacks the end of the web into the buildings  and lets the guy hand there two feet off the ground, dropping down to poke at his dangling feet. “Or you could be a life-sized Christmas decoration. This is way cooler.” 

“He’s not a robber, Spider-Man,” you say. He’s surprised you don’t call him Peter, honestly. “He’s a cat burglar. They’re different.” 

“He’s not a cat burglar, he didn’t go into anyone’s house. What are you doing?” 

You’ve strung the robber’s accomplice up like a fly in a spider's web. You’re giggling as you drop down beside him, the sound only so slightly muffled by your spandex mask. “He looks tasty.” 

A honk echoes from the mouth of the alley, then a screech of tires. Peter heard a cry of, “Hey, my purse!” and then, predictably, the approach of hurried footsteps. 

“Good day for robbers,” you say conversationally. 

“Bad day for old ladies. Do you have the purse?” 

You turn to him to show the purse already slung over your shoulder, the body bumping against your hip. “It suits me, right? Hey, did you know purses keep getting bigger because women have to carry more stuff? Soon, my purse will be the size of my car.” 

“You don’t have a car. And that’s not true, purses come in a hundred different sizes.” Peter gently pushed your chest back to get a clean shot at the approaching robber. He webs him at the feet, and smirks to himself as the newcomer immediately topples forward, the stolen purse flying from his hands. “Watch your step.” 

“Delivery!” you laugh, grabbing the bag off of the ground. “Hey, we should make these guys pay for the bags, considering they’re all scuffed up and broken now. What do you think?” you ask the robber stuck to the floor, who’s now lamenting a potentially broken nose. “Aw, Spider-Man, look what you did.”

“Walk it off,” Peter advises, taking you by the shoulders to lead you out of the alleyway. He’s too tired to deal with these idiots today. “It was in the name of justice.” 

“I heard that a broken nose takes up to five months to heal. What justice is that?” 

“That’s not true.” 

“It is. I saw it on the history channel.” 

“The same channel that thinks aliens built the pyramids?” 

“Everyone’s wrong about something.” 

“Yeah, well, I’ll keep it in mind. Now where did that old lady go?” 

“There’s a Pilates studio down the street. Old people love that stuff.” 

“No, they don’t.” Peter looks at you with concern. You keep on walking, unaware of his looking nor his judgement as you emerge from the alley into the New York City hub. Peter jogs to catch up, slipping an arm between yours to anchor you to him as he says, “It’s a good thing you’re so pretty.” 

“That’s mildly insulting. It’s a good thing you’re pretty.” 

Peter can’t kiss you with the masks. He would, though. A smacker of a kiss pressed unabashed into your cheek. “You really think old people like Pilates?”

i dont really go to dr who or anything but i feel like your nazi/fascism allegory immediately falls through once you make whatever youre using "born like that", implying that everyone that is a nazi or everyone that is a facist was Born evil and therefore you dont have to worry about falling victim to nazi rhetoric because Youre not one of those evil bad guys and you dont have to worry about any of your friends or family being neo nazis because clearly theyre one of the good guys + you can easily tell who the bad guys are even though its. a far much more complex thing than that and youre going to run into someone that you think is a cool, chill person but it turns out theyre jsut really good at hiding their fascist beliefs.

Yeah, exactly, if a narrative wants me to think the alien invaders are actually morally despicable then they need to show me that they're capable of anything we would consider kindness or that not all of them are the same! If they hatch out of the queen slug's spores with an automatic instinct to find and eat babies then that can't really be considered any more good or evil than a cat's drive to eat birds. It's an unfortunate problem for other species but never works as an allegory for an ideological choice! One of the best subversions of this are the Orks in Warhammer 40,000, of all things. If I remember right, they were the result of an advanced species using biotechnology to create their own "warrior caste," deliberately "stupider" and driven by a lust for violence, so basically a sub-race created by eugenicists be expendable military slaves. How well that worked out for the civilization is obvious, but the setting never treats the Orks as necessarily good or evil but more of a chaotic force that has no idea what it's really doing at any given time. Conversely, the Yeerks in Animorphs were given a lot of complex, conflicting motivations that feel pretty human. I ultimately end up feeling bad for them as a whole because they're pitiful little slugs you can crush with one hand, and most of what they do is driven by a mix of fear and radical indoctrination. Their leader, however, pretty much is a space hitler who can be held completely accountable for the war as well for horrible things done to his own kind in order to enforce their obedience. And we do still get good-guy yeerks who rebel against that system!

All of the bullshit with Adrien being a model and being idolized the way he is and now having his likeness used for the alliance thing without his clear consent is automatically so much worse and weirder because hes 14 and Im pretty sure he actually started the show at 13? Its the same with Ladybug (remember the Copycat episode, that was just awful) but atleast she and Cat Noir have quantum masking or whatever although the parisans seem to very much recognize them as children in the latter seasons Adrien is just like, a 14 year that everyone finds super attractive in one way or another when hes probably just gone through puberty, if that. And I dont really understand it as a writing decision because most teen idols irl that I know of are 16-17 and its not like it would alienate the child audience to make them older because when youre a kid, especially under 10, literally anyone whos Older Than You is basically An Adult or atleast Adult Enough to do the shit they do in the show and its less weird for the older teen/adult fans that the writers are still clearly trying to cater to, because those are usually fans that started watching the show when they were young and grew up as it aired and they dont want to lose those too soon. And like, its not like I think theyre going to even come close to acknowledging the true fucked up-ness of Adriens situation, thats probably why Im getting so hung up on this point, because literally when has this show ever come close to acknowledging its own fucked up-ness

omg yessss i do !! i would rec dead ringers and the lost boys but i know youve seen those unless i am making that up.. sooo! the thing is fantastic if you like body horror and watching a group of men who cant trust eachother struggle to survive against a shape shifting creature etc etc also kurt russell serving cunt. - re-animator is great if you love gore and mad scientists and corpses and some silliness in your horror alongside some very interesting compelling dynamics :) - near dark is a moody atmospheric vampire flick that is serious and not serious at the same time and focuses a lot on characters and their dynamics but has found family drifter vamps who ride around in stolen cars and camp out in hotels and its something id rec to fans of the lost boys even knowing its not as good... its very fun imo! i enjoy the characters a lot :) - the hitcher is a great cat and mouse game movie with some serious Vibes between the protagonist and antagonist and theyre both super great in it the antagonist is insane and that makes it extra enjoyable and wild! also i adore nash. - fright night is another vampire movie but pretty different imo especially with all its characters and dynamics and is mainly a beloved of mine because of the practical effects theyre very good and i find the movie super enthralling. so 80s :-) the blob is also a very fun movie if you like body horror and a fucked up big pink blob alien creature taking over and devouring a town! - killer klowns from outer space is soooo silly fun too and colorful and insane and has a great score and a must-watch for anyone that enjoys clowns and practical effects it also gets kinda brutal and the clowns are awesome i love it !! - an american werewolf in london is just one of the greatest werewolf movies of all time with some of the best practical effects everrrr and had some very silly comedic aspects while also getting brutal and heartbreaking at times. - night of the comet is a great one about two sisters making it through the apocalypse with cannibal mutants but its also so much more than that and is so interesting to me also very visually stunning with the setting and sky shots and cinematography! - elvira mistress of the dark is just one of the movies of all time its so camp and funny and elvira is Everything absolutely a must watch imo! <3 oohh i have a lot more favorites and im not sure im doing these justice with my very short descriptions but honorable mentions to two of my newly discovered underappreciated favorites terror train and fade to black also you can filter my films to 80s and horror on my letterboxd to see more if you wanna :)

STARGAZER

so like stargazer isnt from earth but like the embodiment of some random star that fell to earth btu was found by pascal and managed some stuff including calling the villains and supplying him with dark energy and materials for the mechamons

stargazer’s initial name at this time was ‘Snake-eye’, aka the name the fanfiction theyre from!!!!!

soon when pascal was defeated they were a rogue and went into a dormant state in some mountain for quite a while before Zenos awakened

due to their exposure and connection to dark energy they were somewhat drawn to where zenos was and started serving him and basically helped call over aliens and helped keep the ship in shape

though bcuz zenos was a total bitch they started to hate him secretly and when he was defeated stargazer renamed themself to stargazer and decided to join the miniforce [they required little training due to them already having a lot of experience and all that random stuff balh blah blah]

so they ended up temporarily joining m03g for a while in a fanmade ‘show’: spirit of the dragons

theyre like a stylistic sassy bitch with a dash of trauma and fortune teller

they’re actually called ‘agent white’ instead of something like ‘agent violet’

its weird i know

also back to their history

before joining the miniforce some random villan [turns out to be the fanmade show’s main antagonist!!!] beat them up and nearly killed them

thus they lost some eyesight and has a scar across their neck that is hidden by their scarf

oh yea and for delusion form ; when the appear to have legs, the thing they use is called a ‘mirage pearl’ and for them it is embedded into their neck and also a collection of some space magic

it can break and crack which can lead to uh… questionable delusion forms

oh yea and ;

space magic is a type of magic where the holder can use various constellations to summon stuff like arrows and bullets

it does require a crap ton of charging, mental focus, and energy tho

space magic enhances X disks and the user’s sense of time

they can actually use a littleeee bit of mystical magic but they find it tiring

cerulean is like an anti-hero and basically ray but on a lighter level and wayyyyy more blunt

She is capable of flight [unlike SOMEONE] and teleportation

he fights stargazer every other nanosecond but still ends up doing something good

kinda a loner but she did receive training but like dropped out at the last minute

one of his eyes got ripped out by — you guessed it, that random villan i brought up while talking about stargazer [their name is raven]

he does join the team for a while but disappears later

cerulean’s light blue ribbon things are embedded into his back and literally cannot be ripped out or he’ll fucking die

though it does help her with gliding down when he teleports on air

he is very sleep deprived and needs help and therapy

something almost every MCU villain has is that they have good ideas but the writers make the "villain" execute (or whatever the word is) these good ideas in a bad way !!!! take for example killmonger from the 1st black panther movie,, he had good ideas,, but executed them in the wrong way

i noticed this on this movies villain Dar-Benn (??),, which here's the thing. Dar-Benn's planet Hala didn't have natural resources like water,, air or the sun,, Dar-Benn wanted to bring back these resources for her people bc captain marvel fucked it up (i think),, she tried to fix a mistake carol did,, that's a good action i guess. BUT she executes this in the WRONG way,, invading planets n stuff. in the end Dar-Benn didn't get a redemption arc (like many MCU villains) but uhhh we're used to it ig

- i currently have short hair. i started cutting it myself since covid cuz salons were closed and it was getting too long, i was startin to look like that aLiEnS guy 😂 and now it saves me time and money, and as a bonus i dont have to leave the house for it which is always a win (id prob be a complete shut-in if i didnt have to work lol)

- ive fallen out of trees twice, once at a friends bday party when i was abt 5-6, and another time when i was ehhh 12-13. im also generally quite accident prone (not quite benny levels but up there) tho surprisingly not broken any bones *knock on wood*

- surprise-surprise, am an introvert lmao. require plenty of time to recharge my social battery

- i enjoy me some alcohol, not unlike a certain bard ;3 i actually used to drink FAR more when i was younger. funny enough its thanks to videogames that ive managed to unintentionally cut bk (aka replace one addiction w another lol), like now im able to skip up to 3 days. and when i do partake its not as heavy as before, partly cuz im weary of hangovers, and partly cuz the sleepies hit me before the buzz and thats annoying :T but i still chase that boozy high

- hoodies and flannels are life, theyre so comfy! clothes-related sidenote: pants MUST have pockets or i refuse to wear em

- ive got 16mm gauges in my ears, i think thats 00G? currently wearing silver tunnels atm. i miss my grumpy cat plugs, but alas theyre only 10mm iirc

- ive got 7 piercings i think, lets count: 1️⃣ tongue, 2️⃣ left side lip, 3️⃣ right nostril, 4️⃣-5️⃣both earlobes (stretched), and 6️⃣-7️⃣ a double-helix (intentional for the pun lol) on my left ear. i used to have a second row on my lobes but when my gauges got too big i had to take em out. kinda wanna get em repierced at some point and put the little cuffs back. debating an industrial in my right ear too (goin for some as.symetry) also wanna get a second piercing beside my current lip one (apparently thats called a spider bite 😳)

- never learned to drive cuz either got driven everywhere by fam/ friends, or relied on public transit. plus idk if i trust myself behind the wheel, it feels like itd be too overwhelming x_x

- i enjoy me some vaping. in classic meiko fashion, prefer the *fruity* flavours. tho ive had a couple good menthol ones. not a fan of dessert flavours, theyre nice for a few hits but vaping it for an extended time gets too sweet. ive dabbled w a bit of cigarettes too tho not a fan due to the nasty aftertaste. i also enjoy me some hookah, tho ive not indulged in years

hate having a dream about playing one or 2 awesome games only to wake up and know theyre not real

just lost 2 more dark fantasy games with cool new game mechanics to the endless and unreachable world of dreams...

one had rebirth and sci-fi and a closed story. you start as a guard witnessing someone important sabotaging something vitally important and then killing you. youre reborn a day later (this is normal and you remember everything which is also normal) but because something else went wrong during the process no one believes you about what you saw. so you have to somehow stop the destruction of your world and people by yourself. also theres an alien invasion happening and the important saboteur is absolutely working with them. theres spaceships and demons and aliens and both flight and ground fighting and the visuals are geiger-esque but more fantasy and less gore. the other also had rebirth but that was character creation only, though the rebirth ritual allowed you to include special custom rules and also had like memories of some important figures of the world. that way you could pretty much relive their stories. in the dream it was used both by mod creators to do things like create custom races. the main game had fiend, unicorn, dragon and a special hidden one i cant remember - the mods i could see had different fairies, anime characters and normal animals. everything was dark and anthro of course, but there was a warrior cats mod with just cats. that made everyone cats. some custom modes were: youre weaker but have a lot of money (including a version where you have one 1hp but have infinite money and power). i dont remember the story at all but it was very open world sandbox vibes.
