The thing is that I rarely ship romantically. Like, at all. There's a small number of ships that I'll always ship (and/or have been for decades) and the rest is tiers of "yeah, that's nice" to "eh, apathetic" to notps. So... I guess?? In vaguely order of current rotation in my brain, kebab-style??

Pike Trickfoot/Scanlan Shorthalt (Critical Role, Vox Machina campaign/The Legend of Vox Machina) My heart, my soul, my liver. I love them with a determination inversely proportional to the small place they seem to have in the fandom. It's a relationship that evolves over time (slow burn? do you slow burn?) because the individuals evolve over time. Character development first, relationship development second! And there's hesitation, and Fucking Up, and so much love and hand-holding/taking before both seriously consider the other as a romantic partner/equal (as opposed to on a pedestal). Also they're pure chaos separately as well as together and I respect that.

Evelyn Carnahan/Rick O'Connell (The Mummy films) Speaking of chaos! And love! And respect and growth! I've loved them since 1999 and even more since 2001's The Mummy Returns gave us battle marrieds who support each other and clearly can't keep their hands off each other. They perfectly complement one another, they build up each other's strength, they have inside jokes, and they love one another so much they constantly annoy their brother(-in-law) and kid. Those films are my comfort food. Also very pretty and nice/fun to draw.

Reginald Jeeves/Bertram Wooster (P. G. Wodehouse's Jeeves short stories/Jeeves & Wooster) We're leaving canon and entering fanon and what a fanon, ladies and gentlefolk. Over 100 years old and in love with rapier wit, art deco, and smart men and their (not quite) idiots. The thing with this ship is that it should be entirely unbalanced: Bertie is Jeeves' employer and above him in social status. Bertie should have all the power, and Jeeves none. But Wodehouse excels at showing us how much that isn't true, because Jeeves is very, very smart, and Bertie, while the smartest of his social circle (...yes, really) and as pure of heart as he is dumb of ass, relies on him 100% (and is basically the Jack Black pointing meme. He loves his manservant SO MUCH). I love a loveable idiot with a dose of self-awareness and self-esteem issues and an unflappable brain going "...ah. yes. unfortunately that is my idiot."

Chel/Tulio/Miguel (The Road to El Dorado) Come on, I HAD to sneak in an OT3 :3 I shipped them before I even really knew what shipping was. I love me an OT3, and this is a perfect example. You start with a dreamer with Determination (all open heart and sunshine) and an insecure flamboyant conman who is very good at lying (especially to himself) who would die for each other a thousand times, and you add a jaded cynic stifled by her environment who sleeps with (and catches feelings for) one and gets on well with the other and BAM, perfect recipe! Because Tulio and Miguel are ride or die for each other and I don't see that changing with Chel in the picture! ANYWAY. Love them and only want good for them.

Scrooge McDuck/"Glittering" Goldie O'Gilt (Carl Barks and Don Rosa Disney Ducks comics) Ooooh them. I have a soft spot for asshole pairings, and they deliver. Reading The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck (and other comics) really bring into focus all the might have beens and the missed opportunities either by way of fate or one or both of them being dumbasses. They can't live with each other, they are 100% incompatible, but also they carry each other's heart and they will probably never love anyone else That way. Will they get a happy ending? I don't know! Do I want them to? I have no idea!! I just love them in a "Le Tourbillon" (the French song) way: people who find each other, lose sight of each other, find each other again, and the whole cycle starts once more. Sometimes it's not about having, it's about wanting and yearning and reminiscing <3

How I feel about this character

I really love him! I think he's got a super cool design and very loveable personality. he's just so silly and a lot of fun to watch on screen, whether he's being pathetic or an eldritch horror

I kind of like Miguel and the Spot together, but im ngl this is almost entirely because i saw a post that referred to them as baguel 😭😭😭 i do think they're really funky together though! i wouldn't say im very serious about it because the spot is one of those characters that i don't think about shipping very much.

3. My non-romantic OTP for this character

this is mostly based off of fanon/depictions in fanfics and art and such that i really liked, but i like his relationship with miles a lot!! i think they'd put a really funny and interesting spin on the mentor/mentee dynamic.

4. My unpopular opinion about this character

i'm pretty mainstream with most of my opinions on the spot, but i guess it's that i have mixed feelings on the movie portraying him as a bit of a joke for the first couple of scenes that he's in. on one hand, it is really funny to watch and it's a great establishing moment, especially in contrast to his transformation throughout the movie. on the other hand, what happened to him was kind of incredibly horrifying (losing your entire appearance, sense of self, family and income and job) and i think it should have been touched on just a little bit more. this might just be a 'me' thing though, and i understand if anyone disagrees.

5. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

i wish we'd gotten just a bit more of him! more scenes, character interactions, etc. i heard about the deleted scene in which he was laughed out of a bar and then near the end of the movie, came back to destroy it (or something along those lines) and i thought it was a super cool concept. i know it's almost certainly not going to happen, but it would be funny to see more positive character interactions with him.

Am I crazy for thinking Ethan Steiner is a really good character? And that he isn't culpable for the deaths of Boyd and Erica?

Because apparently that's an unpopular opinion that can get you downvoted...in a show where half the cast has committed massive crimes, I really don't think being coerced into assisted murder by threatening your life and the lives of people you care about should be seen as some sort of uncleansable sin.

For that matter...I think people are way too attached to Erica and Boyd. I didn't dislike their time on the show, but to act as though they're insanely deep complicated characters with massive arcs and whatnot feels...disingenuous to me. And also like getting fanon and canon mixed up.

So will someone please explain to me how Ethan, sweet, loveable Ethan who was more iconic in a single season than most characters can manage in multiple, had character development off the charts, had one of the sweetest and healthiest romantic relationships in the whole series...is losing a popularity poll to ERICA?! How did you get here?

I've been in the FNAF fandom since the beggining. One of the youtubers I was following at the time posted a video, watched it, loved it and have stuck with the franchise ever since then

I don't really know! At first I wasn't that interested in them I think, I did like them just that they weren't favourites. But as with many other characters I like,kept seeing things about them and eventually the brainrot began

Kyouraku and Ukitake for the character bingo please! (btw I'm absolutely in love with your Mayuri art)

starting with the obvious:

they are so cool looking: kyoraku is hot, ok? he's just a handsome guy. he's got everything in the world going for him and i'd probably fall prey to his wiles... i do wish kubo would've made more outfits for him, though, he really looks good in everything

they work better as part of a dynamic: with ukitake, kyoraku is a wonderful character. i looooved the regai filler with the evil gay clones fighting closely in sync and checking in on each other constantly. that being said, while kyoraku can stand on his own as a character, i feel like he just does better with a straight man to riff off...

nothing i like about them is technically canon: ...which is why him letting ukitake slip through his fingers with little fanfare rubs me the wrong fucking way. i get it; kyoraku is a self-sabotaging pity party on two legs at the worst of times, & he's always scummy and a little sneaky, but damn, that would've been an excellent place for fanfare that just got passed up. -_- that was your husband, dude! you just let him die & go to hell! this would be a radically different anime if he was the main character. it'd be a LOT gayer

they are a horrible person: kyoraku's vibes are rancid, almost as bad as isshin's (but not quite). the way he seamlessly blends the trope of "embarrassingly drunk uncle who can chess you under the table" and "creep hitting on you at a bar" in a way that's somehow both charming and loveable... this guy gives me iroh vibes something fierce i wish his backup straight man waifu was not his FUCKING niece however!!! kubo's obsession with fucked up relationships makes bleach so so interesting but the way kyoraku treats her is downright insane. the way that she never even seems to know that he's her uncle... imagine finding out your scumbag man baby of a boss is actually your BLOOD RELATIVE. EUGH

(a lot of this creep factor comes from the extra-canon omake collection from color bleach. the anime goes lighter on it! which is funny, because the anime's filler is MORE incesty with diff characters than the manga in places...)

they're like a blorbo to me: ....i still wuv him tho <3 i hemmed and haw'd about "deeper than they seem" and "not as deep as they seem" but i think all his depth is basically canon text. his depth is actually something i love about him

they got done DIRTY by fans/everybody but me is wrong about them <3: since ukitake is basically what i'd like to call the ambassador of the bastards, the nicest cop in the regime, the poster boy for good boy did nothing wrong. he gets a reputation for being a saint. and that is both in canon and fanon! there's a LOT of angel fluff on this boy, because being the best of the worst still has to count for something? right?

wow! they are a horrible person: AND THEN THERE'S KAIEN'S DEATH. the way that ukitake stakes honor over life, the way that he lets rukia burden herself with the sole ownership of his death to the point that she feels like she deserves death for it... this man is both doing the most and also never ever doing enough. he practically orders kaien's death in the most sinister flashback, and then is never held accountable, leaving rukia to hold herself accountable instead... not to mention the way that he insists on sheltering his underlings & being kind and respectful and honorable, while coexisting like ROYAL GRADE A FREAKS like MAYURI KUROTSUCHI, and seemingly never noticing the blood on the hands of the system he upholds!!!!

wasted potential: this makes him SO INTERESTING. i wish i could crack him open and read his bones like tea leaves. his flaws make him so much more interesting than the candy floss man he tries to present himself as, but then he dies in a really predictable and unhelpful way, which is absolutely fucking tragic, but it doesn't really go anywhere.... gah!!! i have high hopes for this to change in the hell arc, but not... that high

not as deep as they seem/they got too much screen time: in spite of all of this deliciously interesting flawed material sitting seemingly just beneath the surface, ukitake then goes on to become Nice Guy: The Husband for a lot of his appearances. it's like the royal court guard squads are introduced as villains and then becomes the protag cast, and their war crimes are just like... funny. cute. the murders were justified in fact ect. kubo loves the deaths actually. i'm starting to sound like a broken record here: the first arc of the gotei is heinously interesting, but after that bleach loses a lot of steam in general. the blorboification of the gotei did almost every one of them a massive disservice to their complexity, as bleach moved from a story to a serialized performance. i know a lot of this is in fact the pressure of kubo's studio's fault, but it still is tragic

I was scrolling down through comments under the last chapter (which I absolutely loved, WN looked so done and WangXian was adorable as always) and found this kind of comments:

Uhmm, how to start? JC didn't want to ruin WWX happiness? Like he didn't kill people WWX was protecting or declared him the "enemy of the cultivation world" without WWX knowing? Like he didn't whipped WWX with Zidian at the minimum hint of MXY being WWX? Or trying to torture WWX with Fairy??

And WWX and JC to hug?? The whole reconciliation thing is getting more and more ridiculous. I know that donghua-JC is somehow (and I don't understand why) more loveable than the canon version, but wanting any JC adaptation to hug WWX after all the suffering WWX has been through for JC and the whole Jiang Family in general?

Crying for JC? Why? For him being egoistic and after building LP with the Fame and treasures WWX's participation in the war gave him for it? For him, a person who saw a child and ancient people living in terrible conditions and still let them be? He was privileged, yes he suffered but he forgot everything that made YMJ as great as it was and made it terrible, there is a reason for what no one calls Sect Leader Jiang to resolve problems in their regions.

I don't know that to think about this fandom anymore.

First of all I obviously completely agree with all the above, but I can hazard a guess that many of the people that wanted jc back in Wei Wuxian's life so vehemently don't even really care about jc. They just see themselves in jc. Otherwise why would their version of jc have nothing in common with the canon character other than purple and his name. They were officially told in color that they're going to end up alone unless they Marie Kondo their personalities to spark more joy. Since they've subsisted on a diet of "fix it" fics, fanon and head canons- & apparently it's much easier to ignore the black and white words in the novel that literally have Wei Wuxian walking away with Lan Wangji without even looking back from jc and telling him he's sorry but stop trying to make YuNMeng brOs happen bc it's NOT going to happen - they're now having a bit of a moment as reality crumbles their carefully constructed fantasy land-temporarily ofc before they can justify everything away again...

They've already done all the mental gymnastics around why jc is the REaL uwu victim of finding out the person whose death he played a major role in, and who he hunted to torture and kill over 13 years had made an immense sacrifice for him...🤡.... but they still can't have their reunion. Because really, as you beautifully wrote it out, what is there to actually like about jiang cheng the character? Certainly what is there for WWX to like? So there must be another explanation bc I can't fathom that anyone can misunderstand something that badly unless it's on purpose.
