so i saw this fun post with "otp" questions and i really wanted to answer them for afhiri/gale and instead of asking people to send me asks.. i thought i would answer them all myself in a post :) lots of text under cut!!!!!!

What, specifically, was the catalyst for their physical attraction (if applicable) to the other character? In other words, what in particular had them like “Oh, they’re...hot...”

afhiri likes how confident and charming gale is, they really enjoy (and fall for) the bravado entirely. but it's the magic that afhiri really likes, how controlled it is, how powerful he is (while i'm aware he's nerfed beyond belief, afhiri has never seen stuff like this and it's very cool!), and is completely mesmerised when he casts magic- which is a massive ego boost for the wizard.... oh and he's pretty. obviously

for gale, he likes how afhiri navigates situations. they're very good at talking to people, easy to make friends, can shift into being a manipulative liar when the situation demands it, and then turns to look at him with a wide "i did it!" smile. but when someone needs help, when afhiri knows they can do something to help someone who isn't capable of helping themselves, they'll step in and do the right thing. this is attractive to gale!

Does this change over time? What things do they find “hot” about their partner after they’ve been together for some time, and have had more time to, well, notice and appreciate?

for afhiri it honestly doesn't really change. he just gets more and more powerful as they spend more time together, constantly growing in skill, and it never loses its charm. they just get more fascinated. admittedly afhiri doesn't need to see more to stay interested, but gale likes to provide more because seeing them get even more impressed by him is constantly stroking the ego

the loyalty afhiri showcases, the fact they are entirely, 100%, ride of die, they will do anything for him, if he were to say jump she would say how high. while he's aware of how self destructive this can be and he encourages afhiri to think for herself even in terms of her friends and loved ones, he can't help but be enamoured by this display of devotion and trust, because it's for everyone who shows her even the smallest of kindnesses

By contrast, what was the moment that first made their ~heart~ Soft for the other person? Not necessarily a conscious realization of “I love this person,” but a moment that had them like “Oh...I adore them...”

afhiri was slow on this, which requires some context for her as a character. they are incredibly naive in the ways of the heart, they never had friends growing up, they never experienced a first crush, they never had a doomed teenage relationship. they didn't understand love, romance, sexuality. it wasn't until the events of the game that they started to have these feelings, and needed help understanding them. afhiri's various love affairs (because she doesn't just get involved with gale!) help her understand. so it took afhiri a long time to even understand what 'i love you' is outside of a family dynamic. if you were to ask afhiri, she would say she adored gale from the moment she met him. but since you're asking me, it would be the act 3 boat scene, when she takes his hands in their own, and he looks at her with bright, gentle eyes. that was the moment afhiri realised she would burn the world for him if he asked

gales moment was during act 2, his romance scene. not the confession, but when he had conjured the illusion of his tower at waterdeep, afhiri looked around in wonder. she asked questions about various things, she pet his statues and asked if they had names, she could tell which were his favourite books from the state of them, something that surprised gale greatly. they cared so much, about all the little things, about all the things that make him who he is. they got especially excited about the piano, wanting to learn how to play, wanting to play alongside it for him. she asked desperately if she could perform for him while he read, but he had to encourage her along with a gentle hand in hers to come to the balcony. when they sat together and he looked at her, that was the moment. he was so in love

Does this change over time? What will always reliably make them melt with how much they adore the other character?

with afhiri it's just his gentle kindness. while her attraction comes from his displays of confidence and power and skill, who he is when all that is put aside and there's just gale in his goofy pjs with a soft smile on his face. the way he encourages her, reassures her, the way he makes her feel like a complete person. he's like a guide for her in many ways, a mentor even. while i understand that they do have a natural power imbalance, gale is aware of it too, but never once infantilises her, and reminds her of all the things she does and says that tell the word she is more than a naive, stupid girl who never got to be a person until tragedy struck. that will always make her melt. that he touches her, and is gentle

admittedly it's almost the same. but afhiri is loud, her voice booms and her hands grip so tight her claws dig into him, her sharp teeth shine as she yells to him with furrowed brows how much he is worth. that despite his folly, he is an incredible person who deserves everything. that she will provide everything if he asked. that mystra is stupid bitch who didn't know what she had, and that afhiri knows, afhiri knows what she has and won't ever let him forget that. he is all that's beautiful in this world. afhiri is a lovebomber btw but it never stops, every ounce of mortal love gale has been neglecting in his life poured into him and he's drowning and gasping for air but he doesn't let go. he wants to drown

How do they consciously realize that they like the other character? Does it take them a while?

afhiri kinda needs to be beaten over the head with it. it isn't until gale's silliness in act 2 about near death experiences and how he's horny to get afhiri to go "oh....... so they were right!" because afhiri was already involved with karlach and wyll at this point, and they'd sit up at night holding hands in a circle and they'd tell afhiri "gale likes you. and you like gale." and afhiri would ":)? does he? he is funny. he's my favourite clown." they're just a little silly. and of course they did like gale! he's very pretty

for gale it's quite literally when afhiri hits on him in the act 1 weave scene. afhiri is completely overcome by the intensity of the weave the feeling between them and pictures kissing gale. it just feels right, it just makes sense. that doesn't necessarily mean afhiri was thinking that before, or even after, they were entirely swept away. but that was the moment gale noticed afhiri in that light, and continued to think about it. nonstop

How do they react to the realization that they like the other character? Is it an “oh my god I’m never going to think about this again” thing, or are they pretty comfortable with it?

afhiri is chill. first and foremost. this is a chill clown. the realisation is.. chill, if nothing happens with it? also chill. this is a free spirit who goes with the flow no matter what. karlach and wyll come easy because they are more forward, open characters who make it happen and it flows naturally and easily. gale takes time because gale takes time. afhiri won't make something happen between themselves and another because platonic love is just as good and fulfilling. so, "oh this is nice" and that's about it UNLESS*

gale obsesses. if anything it's a nice distraction from the absolute doom cloud over him, never letting him a moments peace. but thinking about affection? about love? about sex? that's a distraction, and one hell of a distraction. can't do anything about it because everything they have to do is so much more important. i don't think gale would have ever acted on it over the course of the game (except maybe the immediate end) without the acceptance that he is about to die, and needs to do something now or it will never happen. the what if

Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?

*afhiri wouldn't unless it naturally came up, if the moment was correct and it just.... happened. much like the weave scene, if the weave didn't dissipate they probably would have tried to kiss gale. they don't change their behaviour with gale consciously, but the others do notice it, paying more attention to him, talking to him first, looking at him for affirmation and reassurance, using him as a moral compass more than she used to, asking him questions over and over an over abundance of curiousity in him, however this can also be attributed to hearing about his condition and relationship with mystra and feeling empathy for him and wanting him to feel wanted

while gale is a gesture man, and would absolutely seek to woo, he doesn't because of the distraction of all that's going on, until as mentioned before, he believes he is going to die. however he absolutely does flirt with afhiri by using a needless amount of magic when she's watching. casting spells just to impress her, upcasting for no reason beyond watching her eyes widen and that toothy grin appear in wonder, an expression he grows addicted to

What do they think about romantic love? Do they have baggage surrounding it? Do they idealize it? Is it an object of longing and wanting, or were they really not thinking about it until they started falling for the other character? What are their expectations like?

afhiri doesn't think about it at all, it isn't on their mind, and they have no concept of romantic love at all prior to experiencing it for the first time and being told why it's different. it is something they need explained

gale... hhahahah dkjsfdskfhsdkf do i even NEED TO. gale doesn't long for romantic love, but he certainly misses being loved. and it's worth afhiri that he feels true, mortal romantic love for the first time in his life, because i like to think before mystra he only had teen romance, childhood crushes, and then all was mystra, who gave him a love based on power and religious devotion, he worshipped and she gave him tastes of power beyond comprehension. it's with afhiri that he learns what romantic love really is. i think it's safe to say he didn't expect it to feel as good or taste as sweet as it does

What do they think about commitment? Is a long-term partnership the goal? Are they thinking about building a life with their partner, or are they focused on the present?

afhiri and gale are so long term they never want their relationship to end. ever. afhiri is going to outlive gale, and while this is something they are comfortably aware of to start, the more they love, the more they go through, it becomes daunting, especially for gale. he doesn't want afhiri to live without him, to experience life on her own again, to be without someone who will guide and teach her, who will be there to protect her from herself. gale tells them all of this, he holds their hands tight, stares right into their eyes with such intensely it feels like the sun. and afhiri who hadn't had these thoughts at all is suddenly overcome with grief, because gale is sad. they cannot truly comprehend this future, but they can see how much it means to gale. and that's all it takes. gale brings up immortality, talks her into it, which isn't hard because afhiri would say yes to anything gale says. and on his pursuit for immortality, comes divinity, comes ascension. what better way to live together, forever

What scares them about entering a relationship?

afhiri has absolutely zero fear whatsoever. what is there to fear? happiness? huh. don't get it!!!!!!!

i don't think gale fears entering a relationship so much as he fears everything around him, the tadpoles, the orb, the dead three, the elder brain like, there's so much going on and he thinks he's going to die, when he doesn't he still knows he could, same for afhiri, but that fear shouldn't stop anyone from being happy and in love

What fears, past traumas, etc. would be hardest for them to talk about with their partner?

afhiri got nothing. there is no trauma in this clown. there is no fear. there is nothing terrible and bad. one could say their childhood was traumatic in general and another character could be deeply changed by it, afhiri isn't traumatised. this is just a sweet clown who's ready to adore you. i can imagine afhiri like infodumps/loredumps about their own life in an autadhd tangent in the middle of a discussion . where did that come from. anyway and gales like ??? that sounds like a really tough childhood and afhiris like ?????????????? anyway

its actually so easy for gale to open up about the biggest things that have ever happened in his life, which is so funny because he says he's not told another living soul this stuff other than tara, but that goes to show how much he's neglecting his friendships and bonds because it takes you being generally nice and good for him to be like "ok time to trust them with everything!" i don't even think the depths of his relationship with mystra, like Actual Details would be hard to tell either. and afhiri is so open and honest i think it would be encouraging

How much independence do they prefer in a relationship—do they want to share their lives as much as possible with their partner, or do they prefer to mostly do their own thing and let their partner do their own thing?

afhiri is very independent which may be surprising. when gale proposes at the end of the game, afhiri says no, but does go to waterdeep with him because it sounds fun. even when there, afhiri is very slow to officially move in, spending a lot of time there but not quite settling in and making it her own in any way. afhiri also still travels a lot, and disappears for weeks at a time, very rarely months, because adventuring is fun!

this encourages gale to be the same way, going on his own little adventures. seeking hidden artefacts, tomes and magics he reads about, getting tara to sniff out hints of new adventures he could have. sometimes they go together, but more often than not they go on their own, then reunite back at waterdeep with tales to tell.

in my post-game 3 years later fic, afhiri actually proposes to gale, and is still not quite moved in. having never had independence in her life before the events of the game, it is hard to let go of. and gale would never force her to

but also they do miss each other when they're apart.. so its good for their relationship, when they come back together its fresh and exciting and theyre overflowing with love to share

What is their go-to for making a partner feel loved?

gale does acts of clownery for afhiri. dump jokes, crass comments, potty humour, putting on the clown outfit afhiri got for him and doing a little bit where no one could ever possibly walk in on them, afhiri sitting on the groud cross legged clapping away for him like he's a clown at a kids birthday party. literally just lowering himself to her level of comedy and buffoonery dfgl;dkgd

afhiri realises pretty quickly that gale responds best to being validated, having his wants accepted, being encouraged to seek his desires. having his ambitions affirmed and being told that wanting more isn't a bad thing and she will help him get more. that wanting to use his magic to show her beauty is a good thing and he shouldn't have to change. that everything that makes him who he is.. is good. there is nothing wrong with a wizard who uses his skills and his talents, and ever seeks more. if afhiri didn't like these things, why would she have fallen for him in the first place!!!!

What makes them feel loved? Would they build up the courage to ask for it?

since i'm answering for two characters the first part doesn't really make sense so i will only answer the second......

afhiri has no inhibition, if afhiri wants affection they would straight up bluntly ask for it

for gale...... i think he would learn that afhiri responds positively to being asked for love and would get comfortable doing it. it wouldn't come so naturally but seeing afhiri do it to him, gives him the confidence to do it to them, and their eager willingness to provide helps massively

Are they okay with public displays of affection? Do they like them?

i wouldn't say either of them are PDA people

afhiri doesn't act differently with any of their partners when they're adventuring/in public, they're always affection to even their friends so it doesn't feel any different for anyone. they're not going to hold hands, hug, say i love you, in front of anyone, nothing like that. just general attentiveness and soft words when they feel right

i think gale would find it immensely inappropriate to do anything PDA in public, and this is because of my own personal headcanons of his upbringing

When would they say “I love you?” Do they say it first? Do they say it often, or is it reserved for special moments?

gale says it first and they both say it very often, and it multiple ways. it is a well used phrase but it never loses it spark

afhiri's only experience is with karlach prior to gale dlfkgjdfgd i think it's pretty obvious afhiri had no sexual experience based on what i've said prior. and gale had a teen romance, and then mystra, so it's been quite a while for him. two inexperienced at bodily sex dummies

What does sex mean for them? Socially, religiously, what attitudes are they bringing with them? Do they want sexual experiences to occur within a certain “level” of relationship, or does that not really matter so much to them?

now headcanon time, gale is transmasc. gale doesn't have a penis, and has had top surgery. gale uses magic to create a penis when he wants to. afhiri is transfem nonbinary, and has a t-dick. gale also helps afhiri in dick related ways too. WOOHOO *EDIT: AFHIRI IS ALSO INTERSEX

sex for them is extremely trans in experience. the magic sex scene actually encouraged this headcanon for gale in me immensely, the lack of penis in the scene, the desire to experience non-bodily sex and show afhiri what it is like, i think they have more sex this way than bodily.

nothing about their sex life fits into a comfortable 'norm' for people. a lot of body worship is involved, a lot of affirmations, a lot of focusing on trans features and devoting to them. the love of the spirit and the love of the trans experience and the trans body. the love of what magic could do for trans people.

sex for them is acceptance in the purest of forms

in terms of of 'level', afhiri's level is probably 'friend' which is just about anyone whose nice to them so. yeah, but i think gale reserves such a thing as a declaration of love

yes for both of them! neither of them are coy individuals and both are comfortable. afhiri might make a crass, immature joke though... when talking about sex and having sex

uh feel like i made it clear with afhiri that Magic Do Be Doing This.

and gale.. well he kind of tells us in canon that you killing people is hot as hell so. make of that what you will

They accidentally hurt or upset their partner. What happened? How do they respond? What do they do to make their partner feel better?

afhiri upsets gale with her sheer stupidity all the time if i'm honest. he is very patient but they do be doing completely illogical things that are reckless and dangerous, they put themselves in harms way sometimes as a joke with no real understanding of the danger or the risk, afhiri gets scolded a lot and apologies extremely quickly. they don't mean to do things that upset gale, they just..... act. they don't think. there is no plan they just DO and then the consequences of their actions hit like a brick (gale is yelling and crossing his arms)

gale upsets afhiri with his lack of self worth. whenever gale talks in a way that sounds like he doesn't believe he deserves good and that he is good, this upsets afhiri immensely, to the point of tears sometimes. from the moment they met afhiri thought he was the most incredible and amazing person, and this person doesn't think highly of themselves? that's awful. beyond awful. gale pats their head and apologies for talking about himself poorly and it pretty much fixes everything immediately

They have an argument with their partner—what is it about? Do things stay respectful, or is there some shouting and accusing going on?

these two don't fight, they just don't. they don't have arguments, they talk things out. afhiri isn't someone who screams and yells and argues, they helped raise 5 of their 6 siblings, they know how to calmly talk things out and communicate. and without retaliation, gale quickly calms down from angry and frustrated to calmly talking with afhiri too. you cannot get a rise out of this clown

They have to apologize to their partner. Is this difficult for them? How do they approach it?

neither of them find accepting fault and needing to apologise difficult. afhiri is poor at wording apologies and giving detailed apologies, making point of what they did wrong, how they'll change, that stuff, but afhiri is very good at giving sincere "i'm sorry" apologies. gale is extremely good at those like 5 paragraph apologies with a whole ass graph and shit like this man is writing up an entirely new lifeplan around not making this mistake again kind of thing....... but again i don't really see them ever experiencing a situation where this would occur and need to happen. especially when they forgive each other so quickly and easily

How do they feel about the prospect of parenthood? Do they plan on it? How would they react if they suddenly found out they were going to be a parent?

gale is compromising having a normal, domestic life with someone who loves to read and is intelligent and studies magic and would join in with his experiments and his research.. he's compromising an equal.

afhiri isn't making any compromises, but genuinely recognises gale is. she's not sad about this or thinking gale might want someone else because afhiri would tell him to find another person to have that with and she would be cool with it, this baby can fit so many people in the polycule! but gale has never once implied he wants this and is just happy with her. it's enough, it works

What completely petty topic (music taste, favorite food) do they find themselves completely at odds with their partner about?

afhiri eats utter shit trash and has all her life, gale has a delicate palette of exquisite tastes. afhiri can't eat his food because it's too difficult and weird and gale would never even try eating what afhiri eats. the compromise is he makes two meals and she steals pieces of his to slowly build up her palette :)

How do their friends react to finding out they’re a couple? Do they have lots of mutual friends? Did their friends know, perhaps before they themselves did?

lmao the Squad is very "FINALLY!!!", and tara and gale's mother are very "FINALLY HE'S NOT DYING ALONE!!!!!" everyone is happy

afhiri might feel a speck of jealousy over gales good childhood and upbringing and love he's experienced but. it wouldn't last long and it would be like a twinge of jealousy. nothing important

gale would feel jealous over afhiri's affections for others and the easiness with which it comes, but it would go away with affirmations and reassurance from afhiri

Under what circumstances would they feel protective?

such a funny question like every situation they're in over the course of game? this is a couple who focus on protecting one another over themselves in the heat of combat! (stupid)

Would they get a pet? What kind? Who brings up the idea, and who takes a little longer to convince?

How I feel about this character

I LOVE HIM!!!!

I adore him, unironically. A lot of people hate him solely because he’s a bad person, and to me that’s narrow-minded thinking. He’s fun BECAUSE he’s bad. He’s fun BECAUSE he’s a horrible person who hurts other people and doesn’t care for their feelings.

He’s pathetic, a disaster, and unironic mess. He’s like 50, trapped in the body of a toddler, constantly slapfighting with kids because he’s petty and can’t keep ANYONE out of his relationship drama with a certain homophobic rat. I’ll get into the relationship/ship stuff in the next section, if you’re curious.

I also like his design a lot.. the right side of his face is this beautiful mosaic and FOR SOME GOD FORSAKEN REASON HIS EYELINER IS AMAZING??? Also most people think his voice is annoying but there’s a cute charm to it… nobody can tell you sound like a girl if you make it annoying on purpose!!!! 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️

A lot of my thoughts about him I can’t put into words because it’s all just “HAKASKISKAKAKSJSKSOSKSKSJS MMMM BABYGIRL OLD MAN YAOI” And TV static, so I hope this’ll suffice!

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Should be obvious. I ship him and Kazuma (Fathershipping), and him and Dr Faker (Deceitshipping/scientistshipping). Technically nothing I like about the two are canon but FUCK YOU their both amazing

The way I think of Fathershipping is all cute and fluffy and “omg kazuma.. but you have a wife!! But.. I still love you..”, sometimes it’s unrequited and sometimes it’s just doomed. Byron’s just a horrible shy, gay mess when it comes to Kazuma. Like ITS SO TELLING how he was willing to literally DIE for him during episode 55, and the fact that in the Sam episode there were only TWO TENTS?? Yeah, they fucked

But as for scientistshipping, it’s just horrible toxic yaoi. You know the Cantarella scene from Utena (assuming your there)? Yeah, that’s them. I wish they had more non-toxic interactions, it would have been sweet to see them reconcile beyond their gay little shoujo bubble apology

My unpopular opinion about this character

He never had a wife. He’s a transmasc (or agender, depends on how I feel) gay man, his kids are test tube babies. He’d sooner die than willingly put his lips let alone *bits* near a woman

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon

I wish things with Vetrix were explored more beyond “haha look at the evil freak!!”, I wish he wasn’t demonized for wanting revenge when he literally got deformed and has PTSD from being in Barian World for 5 years straight.

I like Zexal, but (somewhat yugioh as a whole) has an issue with portraying people as either black and white villains or good guys, and people who aren’t pretty bishounen tend to get the shortest end of the stick at times. Like, there’s a REASON why his kids get more screentime than him. It’s because he isn’t conventionally attractive. Vetrix is not a black and white villain, he contains multitudes.

You have to factor in that he was was put in a foreign alien world for half a decade by a person who he thought was a FRIEND, thought his only other friend DIED, was away from his kids (two of whom were taken away and put in an orphanage), got deformed so badly literally no one recognizes him, and more. People who try to act as if characters like KAITO are better than him are so fucking insane because he’s not. I watched his duel with him today and Vetrix had a line about them being the same. They’ve both hurt and killed people as a means to an end. Hes truly not a bad person and people need to realize that 😭😭😭

There’s also the issue with his kids. I wish he got more scenes with them after his arc, I wish we got to see him work to be better especially after all he did, to deal with the ramifications of it all. It feels like his relationship with his kids were just haphazardly tacked on and stapled together, held together by a few peices of duct tape that the writers saw and just sent on its way. It would have been interesting to see if his kiss (ESPECIALLY Quattro) did not forgive him, especially after the shit he said and did.

The same for faker, these kids have no reason to forgive their father after the actual VILE acts they’ve committed towards them.

Also more old man yaoi. LET HIM INTERACT WITH KAZUMA AND FAKER AND LET THEM KISS!!!!

7. A ship you like but most of the fandom hates them: Yen and Geralt just have my heart. I don’t know if the fandom hates them but it’s definitely not the most popular but I love them and I think the just have the most wonderful snarky complicated relationship and they complement each other to be better. What I ship in Fairy Tail

To be honest, there aren't many.

I'll rehash some of the ships I support that I've mentioned already in case you haven't seen those posts (which I went more in depth here) as well as give some more! I'll also tell you which ones I don't and why.

These are the main ones I like:

Natsu x Lucy

I've said so in other posts, but I do still like NaLu, though it really needs work, from Natsu being less handsy (though most of it's an accident) and for him to mature some and actually show romantic interest in Lucy. Rn, I'm seeing Lucy having to be the one to carry the ship with her budding feelings, but Natsu is mostly oblivious and treats her basically just like a best friend. Mashima should really, if he wants this ship to sail, do these things for Natsu. I only ship Natsu with Lucy.

Jellal x Erza

I said this in another post, yes, I ship this, I really like the childhood sweethearts dynamic, and I think, at least in the main FT storyline (I'm hearing Jellal acts more like juvia in 100yq and that's just barf), it's very healthy and charming because they both try to do what's best for the other and try to better and help them. I only ship Jellal and Erza with each other and in no other ship.

Gray x Lucy

My FT OTP!! Had a whole post dedicated to my reasons! Linked here. I only ship Gray with Lucy OF FRIGGIN COURSE (#protectgray2k22).

Loke/Leo x Lucy

I love this one! Their little arc together, and their fun moments like in the Loke arc or the Fantasia arc or whenever Lucy summons Leo are so cute! Leo’s such a gentleman to her and protects her well, and she doesn’t make it easy for him when he flirts but is still flustered sometimes, which I love. They’re best friends and partners and definitely have chemistry. I only ship Leo with Lucy of course.

Other Ships?

To be honest, that's basically it for me. I'm not really passionate about other ships in FT. I know I ship Lucy with a lot of people, but it's to be expected from a multi-shipper haha. I'll get into the ones I don't like, the ones I'm indifferent to, and the ones I like, but just don't really care about.

Of the rest of the Big Four, I've already said why I'm not a big fan of Gajevy (but I don't ship either of them with anyone else), and y'all KNOW my stance on gr///via (juvia deserves to stay by herself forever :D).

As for Zervis, I don't like Mavis, (sorry, Mavis lovers, I just find her annoying, especially in Fairy Tail Zero) and Idk what to think about Zeref, mainly because I don't see him often, especially since I didn't finish FT, but from what I saw of him, in Tenrou, Zero, and some in Tartaros, he wasn't particularly likable, but not hate-worthy either.

As for Miraxus, I'm not opposed to it. I didn't see many interactions between them tbh, but I could see it being really cute, the sweet (and yet potentially scary) Mirajane and big, gruff Laxus who (eventually) has a heart of gold.

Stingyu, I'm not the biggest fan of Sting, I like him enough, and I'm not really a fan of Yukino either, not because I don't like her, I just found her pretty boring. I don't mind that ship I guess, I just don't ship it personally.

Now onto ships you didn’t give as an example, Anon:

A dear friend of mine mentioned that their OTP for FT used to be StingLu, which I am totally down for, but I haven’t seen many interactions between them. I could see it being a very cute ship though! They’ve got matching hair too haha.

I could see why people like Laxus x Freid, but Freid acts a bit too fanboy for me to ship them (reminds me of juvia too much), though I really liked his loyalty and respect (along with the rest of the Thunder Legion) to Laxus.

Elfman x Evergreen (lol what's their ship name, Elfgreen? Everman?) is ok, I found it pretty cute how they were at odds and then became fond of each other.

Alzack x Bisca, I mean sure, I ship it, I just don't really care about it. Very cute couple, but they’re just background characters haha.

Lyon x juvia, yeaaaah like I said, juvia shouldn’t be inflicted on anybody, so I’d never do Lyon dirty like that.

Ren x Sherry, I don’t really like this ship. A fun fact (not really) about me is that I don’t like it when people who love someone in a show or whatever move on from that love interest to a new one. It just makes it seem so disingenuous to me, like the love was never real. I know irl, this happens a lot, and it doesn’t really discredit their past feelings to move on, but this is a personal preference of mine for fiction. So, I don’t like how Sherry moves on from Lyon to Ren.

Sherria x Wendy, nah don’t like this, I personally don’t like the idea of shipping a 12 and 15 year old together because they’re both really young. I guess it’s fine if you do, since there’s not a big age gap, but nah I’m good.

Happy x Carla, eh, don’t really like this ship, but it’s not too bad I guess. He’s kinda too pushy, and she’s kinda too mean, but overtime they warm up to each other more, like over the Edolas arc for example, so it’s not the worst.

I've already said in other posts that I don't ship Gratsu, and I definitely don't ship NaLi; I just find Lisanna a tad too annoying, and her kid self was waaay too pushy.

Reminder: basically, any ship that involves Natsu, Gray, Lucy, Jellal, and Erza besides the ones I've mentioned is a no-go for me. When I multi-ship one character from a particular anime, I don't multiship for any other character in that anime except for my favorite, so any ships you see listed are the only people I would ship them with.

I don’t really remember other extremely popular ships at this moment, but if anyone thinks of them and mentions them, I’ll give my thoughts!

I know I don't have many ships, especially outside my multi-ship of Lucy, but really, if you look at other animes that I watch, my multi-shipping habit is even more outta control, so Fairy Tail actually has a bit of variety for me haha. Fandom Ask Game

favorite character: I mean, the obvious answer here is Killian Jones. And, believe me, I do love our pirate hero very, very much. But my true favorite character of the entire show (hopefully no one throws me out of the CS fandom for this) is Sheriff Graham/the Huntsman. I just adored him from the first time we met him. My heart still breaks for him. And I am always going to think he deserved better (and we deserved more of him!)

least favorite character: Probably either Cora/the Queen of Hearts or Gothel/Eloise Gardiner in Season 7

brOTP: I do really enjoy some Captain Charming - they have such a fun bros and family both connection! - but my heart really belongs to Killian and Belle. Captain Book/Captain Beauty, whichever you want to call it is such a lovely friendship. I treasure every teeny little scene of it we got to see. There’s something so redemptive and wonderful in them overcoming their past animosity and becoming friends, and I absolutely adore them bonding and having each other’s backs! 💖

OTP: It’s Captain Swan, absolutely, all the way, they’ve really taken over most of my imagination and free time! 😅 (In all fairness, I did at the start think Gremma, or HuntSwan, could be my True Love OTP, but the show very literally killed that possibility. And of course, we then met a certain dashing rapscallion who managed to win Emma’s heart… 😏)

OT3: This isn’t really a category I give lots of thought. I have read some amazing fic though with Liam/Killian/Emma as an OT3. The one that I’d call my favorite though is what I’ve sometimes seen called Irish Swan Trio: Killian/Graham/Emma. (That I would happily read more of, if it was more commonly written. 🤭)

NOTP: I have (very rarely, thankfully) stumbled upon mostly modern au fics that have Regina and Graham hooking up, or friends with benefits, or friendly exes. I absolutely cannot handle that; it is so far from what that situation truly was and it’s just upsetting to his memory. I’m also not at all a fan or HookedQueen or SwanQueen. Neither of those make much sense to me, nor does Regina even seem to like either of them much or treat them at all well. Why would they be in a relationship?

favorite storyline: It’s probably, honestly, season one. Where we first see Emma coming to Storybrooke, getting to know her son, discovering magic and fairytales are real, figuring out who all the townspeople were in the storybook, all of that. The magic is so enchanting in that first season, and it seems the most tightly well-written to me. I often say the first season’s only real flaws are Graham’s death and Killian not being there yet!

If that’s too huge a chunk to be a favorite storyline, then I’d probably say the Save Henry trip to Neverland.

least favorite storyline: I am not a fan of the second half of Season 2. It gets all convoluted and disjointed to me, and Greg and Tamara were so pointless and annoying. I don’t know if that’s so much a storyline as a least favorite segment because there doesn’t seem to be as clear a storyline, but there you are all the same. 🤷🏼‍♀️

what I wish had happened but didn't: I’m never going to stop wishing that Emma and Killian had gotten a rainbow blast True Love’s Kiss like all the other True Love couples. I know their True Love was proven in another way, but still, come on!!! 🤨

Even more than that though, I wish

1) that Emma and Killian would have had a secret small, private wedding in the Underworld with Liam performing it so he could be there, which would be an excellent callback to Snow and Charming’s first private wedding performed by Lancelot so Charming’s mother could be there.

And 2) that when we learned about the meanings behind the gravestones in the Underworld they would have gone and found Graham’s and at least learned that he had passed on and was at peace.

**Maybe I should have mentioned 5b as a not-so-favored storyline - so much potential wasted!

what happened that I wish hadn't: I would have loved them to do so much more with Jekyll and Hyde (and Jafar, for that matter) rather than split Queenie and the Black Fairy in Season 6 😝 I also would not have had Ruby run off with Dorothy.

So they just go back and forth and back and forth because really, even though Boomer says he doesn't take his shenanigans with Bubbles seriously...

He starts to really want her.

Like REALLY want her, because whatever they've built, that's the only thing he's had to work for in his life, and he loves her for that. He loves her even more when she implies that he is just as important as his brothers and that it's okay to be just a teenager in love. He loves her and his music, she doesn't ask for more from him. She wants him to be happy, and he wants to just be happy with her.

Anyway, YES. I adore their dynamic. Boomer may be more of a douche than he realizes but he's never had to work for anything. He's never really been challenged. Bubbles is his only challenge EVEN WHEN THEY GET TOGETHER, he begins questioning the longevity of what they have because he's reminded that he's not the first and Bubbles has a heart of her own. No matter what he does, because of who she is (not just to him, but in general) he cannot manipulate that. He can not force Bubbles to love him if she falls out of love with him. And that's so world shattering for him because the girl is literally his WORLD. Like no other person could replace her because Bubbles is literally all of who he is. He feels like, if he loses her, what is he? What's his purpose? This is the only thing he's ever built.

Which is really, incredibly sad because he shouldn't think of their relationship like that, but he's so deeply in love with her, for him there really is no other. You could try to hand him "the girl of his dreams" and he'd just... Sort of laugh and turn right to Bubbles because everyone knows, THAT'S the girl of his dreams. It's the only girl he'd want to be with.

A lot of people probably won't believe me if I said I'm also a big boomercup shipper, because their dynamic just works so well.

I’ve headcanoned Emma’s to be Ruth for a while but I guess that wouldn’t make any sense since that name wasn’t on the blanket so no one would have known that in the lwom. Snowing could have intended for that to be Emma’s middle name though. I like to think so. She sacrificed her life so that Emma could come to be. That would be an amazing gift to David’s mama who would have freaking doted on Emma.

I have a few brotps. The veteran trio is pretty great as well as the individual relationships therein (Eruri/Eruhan/Levihan), and I like the potential of EMA even though it was squandered in the end. I also loved Sasha and Connie's friendship, and Sasha and Mikasa's friendship even though we didn't get to see it as much.

Gonna rate these ships behind a read more so this post doesn't take up your entire dash.

Rivetra - Don't like it. I headcanon this as one-sided love on Petra's part. (I liked her and Oluo better.) I feel like Rivetra has pretty much disappeared from the SNK fandom landscape, I used to see it a lot more in the dark times between seasons 1 and 2.

Levihan - S-tier friendship, hate it as a romantic pairing. I've seen a lot of otherwise very good Levihan art that makes Hanji more feminine, which I don't like. Plus I feel like even if the two of them got wasted and fell into bed together, Levi would be incredibly turned off by Hanji's bad personal hygiene and nothing would happen.

Eruri - I don't think they ever got sexual in canon, but I do think they genuinely loved and respected each other. Eren and Mikasa take note: THIS is how you do an Ackerbond.

Ereri - Meh. Not a fan.

Rivahisu - Hate it. It feels weirdly gross to me, for some reason? Even though, fun fact, one of my first fic ideas was Hisu domming the shit out of Levi after he roughed her up and yelled at her about becoming queen. Idk, they're both so small. Their babies would be like hamsters.

Rivannie - I can't even imagine this lmao. What a weird pairing.

Rivasasha - Another one that doesn't make sense to me.

Eremika - The worst and most toxic pairing in the series. I hate everything about their dynamic. Eren is cruel to Mikasa and she just accepts his treatment without wavering in her obsessive love. She infantilizes him even though he clearly hates it, although she's right that he usually needs someone to clean up his messes. I hate that Eren claims he loves her even though he had, like, 2 moments in the entire series where he wasn't openly contemptuous of her. I don't see them as a tragic couple, unless the tragedy is that they had great potential as characters but Yams decided to hamper all the development they could have had as individuals in favor of smashing them together at the last minute with no buildup. I don't even think Eren likes Mikasa as a person very much. I'm not against childhood friends to lovers as a trope, but I think Yams did a really bad job of depicting any kind of mutually positive relationship between them.

Arumika - Cute! I have a headcanon that they've fooled around as sort of an exploratory thing out of mutual platonic love rather than being sexually attracted to each other. They have a great friendship and although I don't think they have endgame romantic potential, I could see them trying out dating but deciding that they're better off as friends.

Jeankasa - I go back and forth on this one. It's not bad, but it's no Rivamika. I did ship it initially but then Levi showed up and my interest in JK went out the window entirely. I think Jean would be a good husband to Mikasa, but after the ending of the series I question her love for him. I think she'd agree to marriage more out of the idea that they have a mutual goal of love and family and the knowledge that he'll take good care of her, and then over time maybe she would fall in love with him. I feel bad for Jeanbo because he's Mikasa's second choice both in canon and in my headcanon!

Mikahisu - I haven't really considered them as a pair before; I got the vibe that Mikasa kinda hated Historia for capturing Eren's attention before she was shoved off the page to get pregnant and... whatever she ended up doing. Fascism, I guess. I could see them getting off to a rough start but Hisu wins Mikasa over with her charm and determination.

Mikahan - Another one I haven't really considered. I think Hanji's overzealousness would turn Mikasa off, although they could have a friendship like a less playfully antagonistic Levihan.

Mikannie - I want them to be friends so badly! They could be gym buddies who kiss sometimes. With the right AU you could make this pairing like lesbian Rivamika because those girls do not like each other.

Erumika - I'm into it in theory, but when I think about the pairing I don't really feel anything about it.

Mikasasha - I wish we'd gotten to see more of their friendship. One of you (I forget who lol) also reblogs a lot of romantic Mikasasha and it turns out I'm into that as well. I think Sasha would be a good influence on Mikasa, getting her to loosen up a little, but I guess asking for well-fleshed female friendships in shonen manga is probably a bit much.

General how I feel about this character : I mean. He’s a brilliant character in so many ways and I absolutely adore him. I really enjoy characters with carefully built personas that they’ve spent forever building and maintaining only to have people come along and push through that. And the Nein doing that with Essek is that on a whole new level, because it completely changed him. And all on accident! They had no clue! His entire arc is incredible and everything I could’ve wanted for him. Also, morally grey wizard. Just yes. 2nd favorite character across both campaigns.

All the people I ship romantically with this character : Yeah, Caleb. Like I said, I love morally grey wizards and I don’t think there are two characters who fit that more than these two. The ways they parallel each other are so great, their dynamic is wonderful. Narrative foils make great ships.

Non-romantic OTP : Actually torn between Jester and Yasha here. Jes was the one who started pushing to be Essek’s friend immediately and without that, he would not be who he is. I love how they interact, her bubbly, chaoticness is just a great counter to his quiet, restrained nature. But I am also a huge sucker for the Xhorhas Kids and want that dynamic to be explored more because I think it could be awesome. So I guess Jes, but if him and Yasha interact more it could easily which to her.

Unpopular Opinion : I guess I don’t really have one? Yeah, idk. I’ll just say that, as much as I shout about wanting him and Caleb to kiss already, I’m 100% loving the slow burn. Not that unpopular, but that’s all I got rn.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened : I need him to talk about not being consecuted with the Nein. That’s a HUGE thing and they don’t know? But Matt brought it up like it was nothing in the fireside chat? Like what? 

Molly

General how I feel : Okay, yeah, Molly is my favorite. And I struggle to put into words why, so here we go. I love the charming bullshitery he does (with a low charisma score to boot), the circus aesthetic gives me life, ALL of the Lucien shit plays into it because holy shit it’s fascinating. The way that he’s not the best person, but he had the Nein’s back and was great to them. He brought them together and his death held them together. And a lot of my personal fanon also just helped build how much I adore him. He’s my absolute favorite type of character, and I miss him dearly.

Romantic ships : I’ll be honest, I don’t really ship anything super strongly. Widomauk is good but there isn’t enough for me to be super for it. Shadowidomauk is fun to think about. I actually kinda like Fjolly just on an aesthetic level, they make a super striking pair. But all of those are fairly surface level, and I wouldn’t go so far as to say I ship them.

Non-romantic OTP : Circus kids my beloveds. I miss them, I want more of them interacting constantly because oh my god, they were so soft. Everytime Yasha talks about him I get so emotional. 

Unpopular Opinion : I don’t know if it would be considered unpopular on here, but I’ve seen it quite a bit on other platforms. I am very okay with the state Molly was in when he died. I don’t think he was that underdeveloped compared to the others. He died right before they reached Shadycreek Run, which would have really kicked his backstory into action, so I think that’s the cause of a lot of that.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened : I don’t know if Molly knew about Zuala. And I really wish he could have been there when Yasha told the Nein about her.

favorite thing about them: I really like how the show plays off of his Rugged Drunken Mentor figure character archetype. In a lot of anime (and any media in general), that kind of archetype is always romanticized and it's kinda a bad thing b/c alcohol addiction is serious. And we see what alcohol addiction does to someone like Qrow, aka someone who is a broken man b/c of how awful his life is. We even see him trying to move away from his alcohol addiction. On top of that, I love that despite all of that, he tries to be a good person and a loving uncle to his nieces. You'd think with the life he has it's a wonder that he's not a villain, but he is such a big sweetheart who not only trains w/ his nieces but even plays video games w/ them as well and it's just UGHH!! So sweet!! >w<

least favorite thing about them: Uhh... I kinda wish we got him interacting more with other characters? Like I wish we saw him interact more w/ Yang, Ironwood, or... even Robyn? I know it sounds weird to say about Robyn since they were partnered up in V8 but they should have had more interactions, and I think she'd be a really cool sis figure for him too :3

OTP: I do have a soft spot for Magpie (Qrow/Roman) cuz I just think it'd be fun and that they both have some similarities going on too :3 (esp now after reading Roman Holiday)

nOTP: Snowbird (Qrow/Winter)... like even w/o the big age gap between them, I don't want them together considering their interactions and fight in V3 and also knowing that Willow is an alcoholic and her addiction really had a huge effect on her kids, it just makes me not wanna ship them together >_<

unpopular opinion: This man's never gonna die. Yeah yeah he's the mentor archetype and those types of characters end up dying, yadda yadda. But look, considering that so many horrible things has happened to him so far in the story and the fact that he's also fighting a really bad alcohol addiction on top of that? Ending his story by just killing him is just gonna be cruel. This guy deserves a break that doesn't end with his life getting taken away. Not to mention, Ruby's kinda already shown many times she doesn't need him to tag along and we literally have a volume coming up where she's just gonna be w/ her team (and Jaune + Neo) so like I think it's already clear that they've moved on from Qrow being just her mentor figure. ... also the "QROW'S GONNA DIE!!!" thing has been going on since V4 and it's getting pretty annoying so shut up, shut up!

Most of the time they fight over misunderstandings. Neither of them are big talkers so often times Kit will say something sarcastically that Ty doesn't get and takes offensively and Ty just stops talking to him. Normally they break the ice with small gestures like making breakfast or helping the other with something. Once that's broken they find it easier to talk.

Kit took Ty to the zoo once which he thought would be fun and cute since Ty loves animals but he was so upset about the animals living conditions that thye ended up setting things free. They make it a goal now, to visit zoos and rescue as many animals as they can. (So far they've reduced a lot of birds, multiple snakes and spiders, and five zebras.)

Kit is most likely to be prom king. He is outgoing and friendly when he's comfortable. He's a people person and I think he would do very well in high school. I don't think Ty would really befriend anyone other than his family and people like Emma and Christina plus he would hate the attention. I highly doubt he went to prom I think Kit would skip with him.

Ty follows the directions to the 'T' however he tends to burn things and it drives him crazy because "Kit how is it burnt? I did exactly what it said and it's burnt!" And Kit just shakes his head and wings it and makes it perfectly and it just makes Ty angrier because you can't just "wing" things they have a recipe and specific order for things for a reason!

So Ty has to read before bed because he can't sleep unless he's read for at least twenty minutes. Kit likes to work out at night instead of the morning because he is a night person and hates getting up early. So normally Ty's in bed reading for about an hour and then Kit comes in and showers before getting in bed with Ty. Kit liked to cuddly into his side so he lays with his chest to Ty's side and puts a leg over Ty's and they hold hands until Ty falls asleep and Kit moves his book to the desk and turns the lights off.

Kit is one of those people who loves really cheesy jokes so he always tells "hilarious" jokes that no one else laughs at. So whenever he tells a joke the only person that will laugh with him is Dru who laughs at the fact that Kit is laughing.

They love Sherlock Holmes (the show and the movie with RDJ) and Ty loves RDJ so much that Kit showed him the Iron Man movies which were his favorite and Ty fell in love with them (even though he liked Captain America more). Ty's favorite movie was End Game and he didn't cry at all but laughed at Kit as he sobbed

Ty names the pets most of the time. He named Irene and Microft the turtle but when they got a dog Kit named it Snuffles which then lead to Ty reading the Harry Potter books. (The only time he cried throughout the series was when Sirius died).

Ty doesn't say dude he's never understood the appeal but Kit says it to just about everyone. Kit does it a lot and everyone finds it funny and Ty just rolls his eyes and ignores it.

I think Ty would make the first move because Kit is too scared to after what happened at the lake. So they're ya know starting to be friends again and eventually Ty is like hmm I wanna kiss him and just does cause Ty isn't one to hold out on doing the things he wants. And kit is just like oH SHIT

I feel like Ty would get more jealous. He wouldn't even realize it was jealousy until Julian is like are you jealous and Ty is like lol no- oh wait. So Kit is getting hit on constantly cause he's got that Herondale charm and the good looks and Ty is just like stop thats so annoying and Kit is like aww wait you're jealous and Ty just glares at him like shut up

Kit starts the prank war but it was completely on accident. He was attempting to prank Dru by putting a bag of flour on the door to the training room so it would fall all over her but Ty came in early and it got him and so Ty and Dru teamed up against Kit who got Jem in on it (not that Jem would EVER admit to helping kit win)

I feel like neither of them would really want kids. Maybe when they're older but I just feel like neither of them would really want them. Kit was raised by a crappy single father with no siblings and Ty was raised solely by his siblings so he really can't imagine being a father. Neither of them are too keen on the idea so instead they're just the best uncles in the world.

If they did have kids though, if it was a girl they would name her Livia Tess after Livvy who saved both of their lives countless times and Tessa who took Kit in when he thought he was all alone. If they had a boy it would be named James Julian after Jem and Julian who in all rights raised them into the kind men they had become.

I feel like they would put candy out and just cuddle in bed watching classic horror movies all night (Kit would be freaking out cause he loves to be scared but these movies were a little too scary)

Number 9-- Pirate AU: Who is the pirate? Who is the member of the royal family who did not sign up for this?

(There are two not-fics below-- rotten four as is my brand, and mal/audrey)

There’s two ways I could go with this:

either THIS is the Maldry rivals-to-friends-to-lovers fic, where Mal is a dashing pirate who is young and rebellious and was kicked off of her ship by her mother, who wants her to attend the young lady's academy on the mainland and educate herself in the ways of “proper” society so that they can infiltrate the rich ships better and get the reputation as the gentlewoman pirates that they deserve. Of course, in this fic Mal meets Audrey along the way, and hates her immediately. Seriously, this girl likes PINK and PRINCESSES but also NOT PRINCESSES because she is NOT INTO GIRLS and it’s INFURIATING.

“Mal,” says Evie, who is Mal’s best friend from the pirate ship who is actually delighted to be attending the princess academy and is learning new ways to hide knives in her fancy dresses every day “Babe.”

“Fuck off,” says Mal, who has known Evie since they were six and had a falling-out so dramatic that they sailed on separate ships next to each other for four years afterwards.

“You’re so gay for her.” says Evie, who is already hooking up with Mal in their free time because it’s easy and comfortable and they both enjoy it well enough. “I know that look, Mal Bertha.”

“There’s no look,” says Mal, sulking.

“Just ask her out with all of your dashing pirate charm.” Evie says. She has not stopped applying her lipgloss throughout this conversation, and it’s not as distracting as it should be for either girl.

So Mal goes out and picks up a new pair of boots with less bloodstains than her old ones, and rents a boat (renting is like stealing, except it’s only for a while. It’s practically borrowing, really, except for how Evie has drilling it into Mal’s mind after a few too many incidents with lost books that BORROWING happens when you’ve ASKED FIRST) and decides to turn on the full pirate charm

Audrey is not impressed, and does not break up with her boyfriend, Chad Charming, over this attempt at wooing. She is a princess, and in NO HECKING WAY did she sign up to be….harassed!! By a pirate no less!! Everyone knows who her mother really is, no matter if she’s here under an “education decree” from the “crown prince” for the “children” of the exiled *former* smuggler’s community by the coast.

….Mal steals a boat, and tries again. Only this time with kidnapping.

Audrey is impressed with the dedication, if nothing else. She may not like a pirate, but she can appreciate a girl who will dedicate at least six hours of her life to plotting and stealing a whole finishing vessel from the coast. And cook her a lobster dinner on it.

Mal is delighted by this turn of events. Evie is thrilled that she finally has time without her best friend where she can FINALLY decorate their room the way she wants. Audrey is reluctant at first, but eventually comes around to the idea of dating a bad girl.

….and also there’s a bit where Mal gets dumped in the water and Audrey, despite Not Signing Up For This Bull Crap, has to jump in and save her. From about two feet of water. Because Audrey was being a reasonable person and taking her shirt off so that she could get the full benefits of the sun. Make that vitamin D.

Mal is so gay that she walked off the side of the boat when it happened.

The OTHER answer is that it’s a rotten ot4 story, and Mal is an evil princess who gets sent away to live on a pirate ship for a year by her mother, who wants her to become more evil and also learn some leadership skills. The other three are the pirates who are supposed to teach her their wicked ways of stealing and drinking and cruelty.

Unfortunately for Maleficent’s plans, the shipping journey doesn’t go exactly according to plan.

Mal does not fall overboard this time, but what DOES happen is that the OTHER wicked princess on board the ship is too perfect for words, and when it’s revealed that actually, Evie is the famous pirate princesa espelho and NOT another wicked boarding school member, Mal has a full blown gay crisis.

“Well YEAH,” says Jay, who is also dating essentially pirate royalty. “She’s like, basically the coolest person you’ll ever meet, aside from me. What, did you think she was one of us regular wicked school brats?”

“I don’t know what I expected,” Mal tells her pillow, which she is burying her face in during said Gay Crisis. “She’s too good to be true.”

“Nah.” Jay says, mouth full of ye olde cheetos or something. “She’s pretty lame sometimes. You should ask her about what her room looked like when she first got her own ship. All dark and gloomy.”

“WHAT” shrieks Mal, who has been working on changing her bunk to the darkest, deepest corner since she first arrived. “She THREW OUT a room that was dark AND gloomy in favor of what?”

“Better lighting for her makeup tutorials, mostly.” Jay says, not paying attention anymore. “I think she might also have a full journalism setup there too. She won’t tell me anymore, not after what happened with the caustic tar.

Mal is horrifically curious about the caustic tar now. “What was it made from,do you know?” she asks, because she’s still working on how to cohabitate with other people peacefully despite growing up running around an evil academy since she was a child.

“Nothing important,” says Jay casually, throwing a ball at the ceiling.. “She had some boards replaced, scrubbed off all the skin on her palms fixing the parts of the door she didn’t want to replace, and then made a very cool liquid version of the tar for spraying on fabric to get natural wear and tear patterns on new garments.

“Sick.” Mal says, and before she can make any other comments:

“There was the matter of the handprints though,” Jay say, still extremely fake-casually. .”they were weird, you know, because Evie had them on her back for weeks, with the tar and all, and they were definitely dainty. Almost like some girl kissed her around the neck while there was still tar on her hands.”

Mal throws a shoe at him, knocking both the ball and the boy out of the way, and shoves past to find Evie.

Because the roles are already a mess for this (I am very small and very tired place just roll with it as I am not editing this before I post) Mal runs into exactly the pirate royalty she doesn’t want to see.

“What the fuck are you doing in my room?” asks Carlos, who is basically a tiny perfect decoy in this world. His mother had a monopoly on the exotics trade for a good few years when he was a child, and would tie him to the mast and make him cry for mercy as a way of luring other ships hoping to rescue a nobleman’s child closer. It worked disturbingly well, and now at sixteen, Carlos is both a pirate elite and terrified of falling into the water.

Mal pushes past, because she is as always a little bit of an asshole, and goes off to find her OWN pirate princess to date. She doesn’t need any stupid boys who just look at her like she’s dumb when she doesn’t know an anchor form a bowline. She doesn’t need to know. She’s going to be managing her own crew eventually, and they’ll do all of the heavy lifting aspects of it all. Mal is simply going to chill out and wait for the princess to come to her.

Of course, because this is a pirate story, this is when another ship sees the school experience boat, and decides that the best experience for the young baddies to have is explosions. Lots of them.

First hand, even.

The pirates (Evie and Jay and Carlos included) get to stations.

Mal, confused and distressed by this turn of events, is about halfway from transforming her whole shit and dealing with the dragon claw marks later, decides to wait in the hold. She is not getting paid for this experience, and it’s so beyond her ability to control what other ships do, mom.

Mal might have a few mommy issues in addition to the princess issues. A balance there.

“Fuck” Mal says, instead of dictating a letter to her mother like she should when entering a potentially life-threatening situation. “Now I’m never going to be able to talk to her.”

Mal does not die, Evie does not die, neither of them actually manage to steal anything in this story except for each other’s hearts, and then they talk at length about their feelings and how they should become a mean fighting team.

The next pirate raid (intentional), they’re ready. They’ve practiced all of their cool two-person moves together, and they’re ready for this.

Two minutes into the battle, Jay gets taken by the unwitting second team and disappears. Mal, predictably, flips her shit when this happens.

Aaaaand now it is late and I’ve written up enough of a piece of a fic I won’t write for this hour. Hope you enjoyed one or both of these ideas, nonny.

(the second one ends with Evie and Carlos dragging Mal along on an adventure to get Jay back, where Mal learns how not to be useless on a ship anymore and she and Evie bond as people and they keep Carlos and Mal in turns from having a nervous breakdown as they get their boyfriend/BFF back and then they all realize that ACTUALLY they work best as a foursome and do that)

for the character meme: Emet Selch !

How I feel about this character:

Favorite antagonist in XIV and objectively in the conversation for best in the entire FF franchise. Emet is just a deeply fascinating character and honest to god the best part about ShB for me, it’s not even close. It’s not just that he’s gorgeous and witty and a charming little shit when he wants to be. It’s also that I love those characters with layers and layers to dig into and Emet’s one in spades. He literally carries his grief on his back.

This is the real reason why I think DRK was the poster job for ShB besides the blindingly obvious surface reason: the deep parallels between Emet’s story and the DRK quests, but specifically the SB arc with Myste. And considering the same writer is responsible for both, I absolutely believe it was on purpose. Every awful thing Emet ever did, he did for love—I always read him as the very first Dark Knight, and the quintessential one at that. But he could not get to that place of acceptance that Gisele did with Esteem’s help, imo bc he was tempered and it would have run contrary to Zodiark’s purpose.

All the people I ship romantically with this character:

Gisele first and foremost, obviously. I could go on and on about it, and have before, but the truth is he’s as excellent a foil for her as Ysayle was. And in a lot of ways, Emet’s like bad end Gisele—like I said, everything he’s done has been driven by love, and both of them are prone to playing 4D chess to get the results they want. They were just playing it with each other on the First, and they both realized it fairly quickly. Then there’s the fact that Gisele’s very presence on Source challenges his assertions about mortals and what they’re willing to do for one another—she’s there because she sacrificed her life to save Ferelden. She accepted oblivion to do it, even, a fate worse than death; she had no way of knowing Hydaelyn’s blessing was even bc a thing much less something she had that would protect her from Urthemiel’s soul attempting to consume hers and destroying them both in the process. Her entire existence shatters all of Emet’s notions about mortals. She fascinates him because of that, and the fact she doesn’t put up with his shit. They’re just terribly well suited to each other and would be even without the reincarnation romance aspect to the ship.

Hythlodaeus is the other one, and lately I’ve really been fascinated with the idea of them being a triad with Müllenkamp (Gisele!Azem) as opposed to the V with Emet as the shared point that I’ve always had them as.

#1 after Gisele as far as this life goes is Y’shtola, and it’s not nearly as cracky as it sounds. Of the Scions, she’s by far the most sympathetic to him. Urianger and also Thancred—the latter because they have a lot in common, to the point Emet feels a lot like how Thancred could have ended up in the bad future, had he survived everyone else.

My non-romantic OTP for this character:

My unpopular opinion about this character:

That it really was him being summoned from the Lifestream in the 5.3 trial, and not just some phantom memory fail safe he put in the Azem crystal. Yeah it kinda goes against what we know wrt what happens to Ascians once they’ve been obliterated by white auracite, but the White Day quests last year basically said he’s in the Lifestream and still conscious, and his entire “hat” as an ancient Amaurotine was his unusual attunement with/affinity for the Lifestream. If anyone could cheat death it’s Hades.

That’s also why I don’t think we’ve seen the last of him, but that’s probably wishful thinking on my part because I love him so damn much.

Also, i wish that he comes back somehow. He does in Gisele’s verse, and becomes a Scion even, but I miss him desperately in the actual game. I want to see a reborn Emet having to cope with the world as it is, learning to fall in love with it (and maybe realizing Amaurot wasn’t the utopia he believed it was. I hope we get to explore more of that in Endwalker, the idea that the “perfect world” actually wasn’t). And helping to fix what he broke.

He did, about three seconds after laying eyes on her for the first time. He was Not Subtle. In his defence, he was in a field hospital at the time, covered in his own blood, and was high off his ass on pain relief, so.

Wifey. She's kind of handicapped here because Skug does his best to shield her from the worst parts of himself and the grim truth about war. He doesn't outright lie to her, but he'll censor what he tells her, leaving out the death and the blood and the gore, because he's grown up terrified of becoming his father and he's desperate to be the man she thinks he is, to be someone who's worthy of her love. He doesn't want her to ever look at him and see a killer. If she has to think of him at war, he wants her to think of her gallant hero who always saves the day. So a lot of the time, when he gets into a black mood, she doesn't actually know what's really distressing him. She knows he has nightmares, but he always claims he doesn't remember what they're about. She knows that sometimes he'll nick himself with a knife while he's helping her with dinner, and when she turns around he's just standing there watching his hand bleed like he's suddenly somewhere very far away, but she doesn't know why he gets like that. She knows he has days where she'll say his name four or five times before he even seems to hear her, and an unexpected gunshot from one of the neighbouring smallholdings will have him trembling and running to check on her. But she tries, when he's quiet and distant and sad. She'll hold him and stroke his hair or sing to him or take him out walking in the sunshine, and eventually he'll take her hand and kiss her knuckles and apologise for being an arse, and she never really knows how to tell him that she doesn't mind him having those days at all, she just wishes she knew how to make him stop hurting.

3. Who cuddles up to the other after a long day at work, and this soon escalates to a playful pillow fight?

Skug. They're a cuddly, affectionate couple anyway, but his favourite thing in the world is laying his head in her lap and having his hair stroked. The man melts. They'll cuddle up in the evenings and he'll keel over for her as soon as she pats her leg like come on then and they'll just. Catch each other up on what they've missed since the last time he was home, while she pets him. She'll tell him the latest drama in her friend circle and how her father's been dodging the advances of an elderly patient, and he'll give her a censored, family-friendly version of what he got up to at the front - so, all the funny stories, but with all the gore and death and hard choices edited out. If he says something sufficiently ridiculous, she'll swat him in the face with a cushion. Sometimes he'll fall asleep there and she'll keep playing with his curls until she thinks he's well and truly out of it, and then pick up her needlework to do over his head while he sleeps.

4. What is something that they gave one another that has a lot of meaning?

When they're courting, she makes him a scarf and sends it with the courier with one of her letters, because she didn't like to think of him being cold on night watches. It's red and has zero magical properties whatsoever, it's no Bespoke creation, but he wears it on every mission.

She has a locket with his portrait in it. He's ADHD as fuck and hates sitting still for hours, but she playfully tells him one time that he's "been away so long I almost forgot what you looked like," and he takes it seriously and makes sure that never happens again.

5. How would one another describe their partner?

Very similarly. They both think the other one is their better half and that they don't deserve them. She loves him because he's brave and clever and funny and not afraid to stand up for what he believes in. He loves her because she's good and kind and loving and makes him want to be a better man. They're that couple that are so caught up in each other's virtues that they completely miss each other's flaws.

6. Who wraps their arms around their partner as they look them in the eyes and compliments them with a goofy smile?

Skug, every time they go somewhere they'll be surrounded by His Kind Of People.

Wifey is a salt of the earth working/lower-middle-class sort of girl. She has a job. She's grown up doing all the cooking and cleaning for her father, and she continues to do a lot of it even after she gets married and Skug hires servants because she can't stand to be idle. She has a very limited education; she didn't spend her childhood being fussed over by governesses or taught to simper and dance and paint. So she feels very out of place at fancy Sanctuary parties, surrounded by Skug's superior officers and their sophisticated upper-class wives. She's worried about embarrassing him, she's worried about making him look bad, she's worried about being laughed at or insulted behind her back for being too common or too forthright or too lacking in pretty manners.

He'll pull her to one side before they're announced and remind her that she outshines every other woman in the room, that most of these people are boorish and ignorant anyway so who cares what they think, and that she's got nothing to worry about: she's far more charming than he is and the laws of probability suggest that if anyone is gonna put their foot in it and embarrass the other one, it'll be him.

7. Who loves saying ‘my wife’ or ‘my husband’ or ‘my spouse’?

Wifey, especially when they're newlyweds. She has absolutely no idea how she managed to land him. He's hers now, forever. She has to keep saying it to convince herself it's true. Skug is a bit baffled, but having someone so happy to lay claim to him gives him major heart eyes. He's not used to having someone be proud of him and want to show him off like he's something worth bragging about.

8. Who always talks about how amazing their partner is when their partner isn’t there and they just light up with genuine love and happiness?

God, both of them.

In Prussia, a few months after they get married, Morwenna Crow takes one for the team and spends three solid weeks indulging Skug while he talks about his wife just, constantly.

On Wifey's side, she has a gaggle of girlfriends who appear at the door of her lovely new home to take tea at the first opportunity after her honeymoon wanting all the salacious details. And? She has so much to tell them. Like a lot of young women at the time, the most she was given in the way of sex education was a vague lecture from an older married friend about Marital Duties that didn't really serve a purpose beyond making her really, really nervous about her wedding night.

(She tells Skug about this lecture while she's sprawled all over him somewhere between round two and round three on said wedding night. She's confused. She was told it would be distasteful and unpleasant and painful. Why would her friends lie to her? He laughs, and strokes her hair, and tells her her friends' husbands are clearly doing something wrong.)

So. She returns from her honeymoon with a lot of new information to share with her poor, deprived friends. She's not the only married woman in the group, but she's the only one who married for love, so the unmarried girls are looking at what they want for themselves, and the ones who married for wealth or status are lowkey living vicariously through her.

These gatherings are deeply unnerving for poor Skug. He'll pop into the parlour to kiss Wifey goodbye before he goes out riding with Ghastly, and like eight smirking women politely sipping tea will chorus good morning, Skulduggery like they know something he doesn't know, and something about the way they look at him makes him feel like they're starving and he's a juicy steak. And then he'll close the door behind him when he leaves the room and hear them all immediately explode into giggles. What the fuck do they talk about in there??? At least once he's asked Wifey if she's plotting to sacrifice him, or something.

9. Who loves it when their partner kisses them good morning?

Skug. When you've spent the last 6+ months snatching at sleep on a hard bed with itchy blankets in between night watches and enemy attacks and commando raids of your own, it becomes a real treat to get a full nights sleep and wake up in fresh sheets in your own bed with your wife pressed up against your back, kissing your neck and touching you under the blanket. He knows he's safe when he wakes up with her, and he misses feeling her burrow into his arms when they're apart.

Wifey's favourite is to tell Skug she invited her father to stay for a week and watch him frantically try to arrange his face into any other expression than "horrified". This is doubly funny if he just came home and he's raring to get her into bed - "Oh, darling, we can't, Papa will be here shortly, and he's due to stay until Thursday next, you'll simply have to wait," - but she never lets him believe it for long. She's not, like, cruel.

12. What is something small that they would randomly pick up for one another?

Spending money is Skug's love language. He's always buying her "just a little something"s. Hair ribbons, jewellery, new dresses, books, paints...anything he sees and thinks she'd enjoy.

She bakes for him, when he's home. She doesn't think the army feeds him properly, and she knows he eats like a horse. Coming back from Ghastly's to the smell of homemade bread is one of his favourite things about being married.

13. Who is the one who can’t stop laughing when trying to tell a joke?

Wifey. She'll be doubled over wheezing, red in the face, and Skug will still have no idea what the joke is. She didn't get that far. She's the kind of person where, many hours later, he'll ask, "So what was that joke you wanted to tell me?" and it'll just. Set her off again.

14. Who would plan the other a surprise birthday party?

Skug. He's often away for Wifey's birthday, but he'll always try to wheedle some leave out of Corrival so he can come home and spend it with her. It doesn't always work - a lot of the time they simply can't spare him - but he does his best.

15. Who picks the other person up when hugging their partner?

Skug is a 6'4 beanpole of a man who likes small, petite women. Wifey is like 5'3 tops and he picks her up all the time. She weighs, like, nothing to him and she's really into how strong he is, so getting swept off her feet all the time doesn't bother her.

What does bother her is when his lanky ass forgets to bring things down from the top shelf before going away for a few months. She can't reach up there.
