Uh, welcome to my TED Talk I guess?

Imagine this. From a young age, ever since you can remember, your father was abusive and neglectful. Your mother also neglectful but is a bit more caring. At the age of nine you meet someone that is similar to you in one way or another and you become friends. That person is the only one that can bring you any semblance of love, appreciation, kindness and happiness- that you as a small child need. You know at age eleven you will finally be able to get away from your abusive household because of a wizarding school that is similar to a boarding school. You know of it from old books your mother owned, hearing about it from her and some others, and usually is a topic in your parents fights.. you think you will finally have some peace from the abuse, a safe space where you can just exist normally like any other person there.

But… then you meet the rich, popular, pureblood, well known kid and their friends. They immediately start hating on you for simply wanting to be in a specific house.. and the next thing you know. Your sanctuary you would’ve had for seven years has been turned into another hell for you.

The staff and other students don’t care for your situation. Even your best friend you’ve known since you were nine seems to be drifting closer to your tormentors and farther away from you. Then when you’re in a highly stressful situation (being SAed in front of everyone) you say a slur referring to your best friend (which also applies to yourself) you feel horrible, and you apologize. Yet, your friend asks you to leave them alone for good and you do. You have lost the only person that has ever cared about you.

So, you join a group that promises you affection, power, authority, care, etc. You feel accepted for once, like you belong. Then, that group puts your former best friend and her family in danger, so you ask the big boss to spare your friend as the target was her child so you couldn’t ask to spare the kid and the husband was your main tormentor.. so you only asked him to spare your ex best friend. But you’re worried he won’t keep his word because you’ve seen first hand how he is like.

So you go back to one person you’ve met, that you know likes them. Even though they’ve never shown you any concern or cared for what happened to you. You seek them out for help. You ask them to save your friend, then to save their family. Including your tormentor. You practically sell yourself to the man to have this done. Yet. Your friend still dies, only her child survived and you’re tasked with protecting him subtly when he goes to the school as a first year, much later and on top of that you’re to be a double agent, spy and a professor with many many tasks and responsibilities in the very same school you were traumatized and abused. With the very same people who ignored your needs, your trauma and your pain in favor of your abusers.

The kid you’re tasked to protect from year 1 to year 7 is almost an exact carbon copy of your tormentor look wise. Which is a huge trigger. Not only that but they have the eyes of your former best friend. Those eye they use to stare at you with contempt from day one because they automatically assume upon seeing you, that you’re bad and out to get them. When you’re not. Those eyes you see everyday on the carbon copy of your tormentor triggers you, it brings you unimaginable emotional pain you can’t express or explain to anyone. You still have no one.

Not only that, but you’re autistic. You’re misunderstood and have been for your entire life. You don’t know what genuine affection is and you base your actions on how those around you act because those are your role models. Your role models are witty, sassy and sarcastic. They have obvious bias and favoritism towards their own houses and students. They ignore what they want. You act like them. You copy them but yet, you’re still hated while they’re adored by everyone, because you’re favorites aren’t the same as theirs…

Everyone is upset that you’re too “bitter” and “petty” and too sarcastic and sharp tongued. When really you’re an autistic wizard who has been traumatized and vilified all your life with little to know support. You’re seen as petty because you couldn’t get over something that happened years ago, even though it was so traumatic it will always affect you and you have no support system to get the help you need. You’re seen as bitter for being prickly around others and careful about who you get close to, even though you’re surrounded by people who never cared for you constantly seeing triggers wherever you look.

How can you be nice when everyone around you doesn’t seem to be? How can you be nice when you never been on the receiving end of someone genuinely being nice? How can you be nice when you’re in constant stress over multiple taxing jobs? How can you be nice when you’re triggered everyday by constant reminders of your trauma? How are you expected to open up and be nice, caring, happy when you’re silently struggling with immense pain because the people around you never cared to help you? How can you be expected to act in a way when you were never taught or shown how to do so? When all your life you’ve been abused and neglected and unappreciated? You can’t be.

Those with support systems can improve if they want to. They can manage the symptoms of their trauma. But without a support system it is extremely difficult almost impossible to improve and heal. How can you expect someone to be a happy go lucky person when all their life they were beaten down and abused by everyone around them? Trauma affects people throughout their entire lives. Without the proper support and care a person cannot properly heal. It is the same for physical wounds, if you don’t get the proper treatment for it, it won’t properly heal. If it doesn’t properly heal it can and will hurt you more later on. You cant expect someone who was hit by a car and paralyzed to be a track star racer. The same applies to someone who has gone through so much abuse and hate and trauma, you can’t expect them to be this loving, happy, extroverted person.

Headless Women Art in the Sims 4

This has little to do with the actual game, so this should be understandable to anyone!  I wanted to share this.  

If you don’t know what ‘headless women art’ is, it refers to a trend in which women are depicted without heads in art and decorations.  This disproportionately affects women and the excuse is generally that it is body-positive, but the feminist argument is that is dehumanizing and normalizes women as unthinking objects.  Here are some examples via @thatsonemorbidcorvid :

Now she has many examples in drawings and paintings, but in my collection, I sticked to objects- which I find more creepy, less defensible, with less male counterparts.  

In the Sims 4, you can build houses.  You can create and download custom objects for your game, and you can download houses which have these custom objects.  I’m not sure about the actual, official game, but when you download custom, fan-made content- this stuff is EVERYWHERE. Recently, I’ve been obsessing over looking at different buildings people have made for the game, but I got so tired of seeing this type of art that I started to collect it.  I have counted examples of men vs women.  Using the same standard of what counts as headless art, I found 22 men and 117 women- still a considerable amount of men, but as a trend heavily geared towards women.  There were a few that are debatable, usually because it was unclear whether male or female.  There were some that I debated counting because while technically having a face, they still felt as if they could count- but to keep it simple, I didn’t. When it comes to headless people in art such a paintings and drawings, I found it to be pretty equal, and didn’t count any towards the count.  I noticed that women are usually more sexualized in general art such as this, however.  For fairness, I will add that busts and sculptures that were just heads, it appeared to be mostly men, which could be argued is also dehumanizing/ornamentive.  However, for the most part, these men were given expressions and a face.  And when it came to full-body sculptures, it appeared equal as well.   Anyways, behold… headless women art.

There are a bunch of duplicates in my count, the same objects used multiple times.  I found about ~18 unique headless women and about ~7 unique men- it’s a bit hard to tell the exact number though.  For the men, 3 of the 7 showed up only once, 3 showed up two times, and the other object made up all the other appearances of headless men.  

Notice how similar the in-game objects look like the actual ones- I think some of them might be modeled after real-life art too.

Now, here are some the men.

9/22 times a man appears, a woman does, as well.  Either because they are placed together, or because they are part of the same object, like in the second photo above.

Out of the 7 headless male pieces, at least 3 looked less like they were intended to be placed in a house as-is and more like very old objects, such as the one below. But to be fair, these only showed up a couple times. I considered not adding to the main count ones were museum objects or in art workshops, things that may not be finished or “complete” but did so anyway. There were a couple of those for male and female. Here is one such.

Here is one that I wasn’t sure about including or not.

This photo is a bit blurry, and I couldn’t in good conscience count it- maybe most people would, as it’s a humanoid shape more female in appearance than male, but the quality isn’t good and there’s enough room for doubt. I wanted to be sure I was fair. There’s a bunch of tinier things next to it that could also be headless art but are even harder to make out.

These figures appear to be breasts, but again, room for doubt. I’m honestly not sure the intention, but if you want to add them to the count, it appeared 6 times.

These weird legs showed up twice. Honestly, they’re very close to being counted.

Now, this does show a bit of face, but since it’s still somewhat covered and degrading in nature, I considered adding it. It showed up thrice The problem is that I don’t think I saved photos whenever I saw similar things for men, and so can’t accurately count. To be clear, I don’t think I saw anything for men that was the same as this or similar, but there were some that had only half a face. Here is one example that was next to a headless women.

There is the male-looking face with plants coming out of it, which I saw quite a few times. There were a couple like that for women, but the question is, if I count the lamp women, do I count this? The main difference is he has eyes, and most of his head is there, giving him individuality, so can’t really be classified as headless. I can’t count these, but I can say there wasn’t really an equivalent for men other than the weird object I showed before with a man and a woman, that could be interpreted as a lamp I suppose.

There’s also whatever this is supposed to be, which I saw twice. A less obsessive person would probably count it, I didn’t. At first I thought it had breasts, but it might be eyes. I will also note that I saw plenty of headless mannequins and silhouettes, virtually all coded female, but didn’t count those. Here’s some other… interesting things.

Does she have a head? Yes. But is this objectifying? Also yes. And again, there were plenty of male fall-body statues, as well as female, but those were dignifying and artistic in nature. But among these types of high-art, modern objects like this, where you have to wonder the point, all I remember are female. They all appear in an unnatural manner. There are a few male-looking heads as well, however-

Here’s what I would consider the closest alternative for men. You can even see the second photo has much of their face missing, as much as the women with the lamp head! Is this as dehumanizing? You decide. There were a few statues of women that were just heads, but none as big and not as many that had missing pieces like this.

None of this is in the final count, but it’s something I found interesting to think about. The last 3 pictures were all made by the same person, but I’ve seen stuff like this used in buildings from other people. I didn’t save everything like this, so I can’t compare or count how many appeared, this was just a couple I remember. Anyways, that’s it! I thought it was super crazy. When I decided to start counting, I thought it would take a while to find any headless women art but it didn’t, at all. Most of what I have screenshots of is the more realistic style of building, because that’s what I prefer, but near the end I started looking more into styles that match the original games graphics. There was probably a higher ratio of men to women when compared to the other style, but still more women in general. This is a plague for real.

Arcane Season 2: Vi Character Analysis and Speculations

It’s been a while since I’ve done a character analysis, and what better way to write one after watching the first three episodes of the second season of Arcane? This is just my interpretation and analysis, so it might not be the same as other people’s, and that’s okay! There will be major spoilers ahead, though, so please read at your own risk!

We’re all anxious to see what’s to become of Vi in Act 2 of season 2, and rightfully so, considering how badly Caitlyn fucked up. Despite the pain we feel for Vi in that scene, we can still sympathize with Caitlyn as her grief is taking charge over her rational thinking, but at that moment, Vi looks as if her whole world has crumbled.

Despite the jokes people have made online posting pictures of Vi’s models from season 1 and season 2, namely during her pit fighter era, with texts all saying something along the lines of, “This is what a lesbian situationship does to someone.” In a way, they’re right, but it holds a deeper meaning than just that.

Vi grew up with the weight of the world on her shoulders. Vander always told her she would be held responsible for whatever happened to Mylo, Claggor, and Powder– or Jinx. The first, and probably only person that had told her that whatever happened to her sister wasn’t her burden to bear was Caitlyn, so her betrayal hits hard. Vi finally thinks she’s found someone that won’t hold her accountable for the atrocities her sister commits, someone she’s comfortable showing vulnerability to. 

Vi understands Powder died as soon as she was arrested, though it takes the entirety of season 1 to fully grasp that because, to her, time stopped. She was convinced she’d come back to that same little girl she abandoned against her will, but instead, she came back to an unstable person hellbent on chaos. Trying to live in a world that moved on was a difficult transition for her, only made easier by Caitlyn giving her a place to stay for a time, and running to her for comfort after her mother’s passing. She felt responsible for everything that happened, and it takes a soft moment between the two to make her truly understand that she doesn’t have to shoulder the burden of the casualties in the explosion.

Then the fight happens, and Vi stops Caitlyn from shooting Jinx and Isha. 

“I keep telling myself that you’re different, but you’re not. It’s her blood in your veins.” “Then why are you the one acting like her?!”

The butt of a gun to the gut– the exact same place where Sevika had stabbed her in season 1 to be exact– and a glare from Caitlyn are the last things Vi receives before being left completely alone. We can see the absolute devastation on her face as she’s left completely alone, in pain and hurting, as the one person who she felt saw her as more than Jinx’s big sister leave her. 

From what we know about Vi as a character, is that she knows that she, as a Zaunite, is frowned upon, and she will never be treated with respect. Caitlyn only solidifies this belief by how she lashes out at her for stopping her from killing Jinx and Isha in the crossfire.

So where does that leave Vi? In a place between Zaun and Piltover, unable to belong in either city as they’re torn apart by Jinx’s revolution and Ambessa’s declaration of martial law, working as a pit fighter to make ends meet and drowning herself in liquor. Caitlyn’s betrayal hurts more than anything Silco or Jinx could do to her because she truly, genuinely, loved her, and thought she did the same. Why wouldn’t she fall deeper into the pit she dug for herself, using black face paint and hair dye to forget about the person she was that foolishly fell for Caitlyn Kiramman?

With that said, I’m very excited and terrified of where Vi’s story is going to take us in Act 2. November 16th can’t come any sooner.

MAJOR Revelation & Collusion salt/vent incoming:

Look, I’m sorry if I’m misunderstanding something here, but I really dislike these episodes.

Why? To me, it seems like that guy is using Gabriel (the main villain and known terrorist of Miraculous) as the main "mouthpiece" for the fans who have the gall to take up for Chloe or call out her bad character portrayal (“You have a wonderful life, power, wife and a daughter”).

It also feels like the exact same thing when it came to Lila in Revelation, using the whole “Chloe is capable of change” speech for her own advantage, similar to what she tried to do with Marinette in Chameleon with the whole "friendship and not fighting over a boy" speech. It’s like he’s using them both as mouthpieces to represent the fans who still think Chloe can change or has potential.

So basically he's saying "Only psychopaths think that. You should listen to Marinette when she says Chloe is incapable of change because she’s the protagonist, and you shouldn’t listen to Lila and Gabriel when they say that Chloe can change because they’re the antagonists!”.

It’s really frustrating because any other time, we are made to feel sorry for Gabriel despite everything that he’s done, now we shouldn’t listen to him??? This is really disappointing to think about because he’s ruining Marinette's character this way. I still like Marinette and I really do think she deserves better, but I’m starting to see why people are starting to dislike her. She's becoming ANOTHER Thomas self-insert (on top of the MANY he already has in the series). The guy loves himself TOO much, don't you think?

I'm going to be completely honest here. As a Marinette fan, I still think the way SOME critics go about describing/criticizing/disliking Marinette and her character isn’t necessarily correct, but I must say that it’s still understandable. This guy is basically making her into his own personal mouthpiece, making S5 Marinette’s portrayal the worst as it has ever been 😓

Which is really a letdown because I love Marinette. It’s Chloe’s “Darnation arc” all over again. He’s ruining characters and development just to push his own morals and fill his own ego to the brim and it’s a shame.

And before anyone says:

“Geez! I swear to god people act like they know Chloe more than her own creator!” 🙄

Maybe your right, but MAYBE it wouldn’t of turned out that way if the show wasn’t so inconsistent and contradicting all the time! This is another reason why I think people have so much animosity towards characters like Andre, because the story portrays him as the victim “this entire time” who only got into politics to please his father and Audrey, pretending that he was never a corrupt politician on his own free will. It’s questionable because…he made his own bed. He choose the life that he has now, to have a child with a despicable woman, choose to spoil Chloe rotten, not to discipline her when she was being rotten to other people, and choose to not be there for her for emotional support.

I’m not saying that Chloe bares no blame at all, but it’s not ENTIRELY her fault just because “she’s her own person”. There is such things as bad parents & bad role models 🙄 You don’t have the right to give up on your daughter, saying things like “you have a terrible/cruel daughter” or “you tried everything in your power to help” when all you really did from the beginning was enable her, let her make everyone’s lives miserable and not be there for her like your should have. Yeah, she’s horrible, but at least she has the excuse that she’s a child. Your not only a grown man, but her father.

This goes for other figures in her life also (Audrey, Bustier, her butler, heck, even Ladybug to a degree). People are right, not everybody is responsible for holding her hand through redemption/reformation (and I agree) and to coddle her every time she does something wrong, but to say that “they’ve tried everything/their best”…just isn’t true. It’s more of an excuse to give up on her. Then JUST SAY THAT instead of trying to convince everybody that you did everything that you could.

Enabling =/= Helping.

Summary: What happens when Game Ellie and HBO Ellie fall for eachother and camera’s catch the exact moment it happens?

It’s safe to say Bella and you always mess around on set, being the face and voice model for Ellie during the Naughty Dog games, you are very involved in the making of the HBO show.

Your mother worked for Naughty Dog while you were growing up, so when they called for a face/voice model for the games, your mum put your name straight down, they had to modify it slightly to make Ellie look older as at the time you were a lot younger than Ellie.

‘As soon as we got her in, we got her to do a few poses and say a few lines. And it hit us. She’s Ellie.’

Growing up you did get recognised, and by the time making the second game came around, you’d grown up a lot.

So when they announced the idea of the show, you were of course asked to cameo. You were not however asked to fall for the person playing… well, you.

“Hi I’m Bella Ramsey, I play Ellie in the new show The Last Of Us over on HBO.” They told the camera with a smile, playing with the ring on their pointer finger, their arms crossed.

“And I’m Y/N Y/L/N. And I played Ellie in The Last Of Us part 1 and 2” You nodded.

“Today we’re gonna play a ‘Who said it, Ellie vs Ellie.’” They looked at you, “You ready?”

“Born ready” You smirked cracking your knuckles, a scatter of rings adorning them.

“Okay number one, ‘You’re lucky you’re still drawing breath. That was plan A, B, C, all the way to fucking Z.’” Bella read out from the screen infront of us, and straight away you got to writing on your whiteboard in your hands, knowing exactly who that is.

You let a smile cross your face, as you watched them struggle.

“Do you know this one?” They asked looking at your smug face, as you held the whiteboard to your stomach so they couldn’t see.

“Yeah, I know this.” You mumbled with a smile and a nod. As Bella just shrugged and wrote something down.

“Ready? 3,2,1.” We both flipped our boards around and held them to the camera.

“Joel?” You asked before thinking about it and shrugging, “That does actually sound like a Joel line, but nope it’s Bill!”

“Bill? I thought Ellie didn’t meet him?”

“No no in the game she did, there’s like a whole thing, they go searching for a car battery, and it’s not there and they’re surrounded by infected in like a school, so that’s why he says that.” You nodded really proud of yourself, as a point gets added to a pixelated photo of well, again, you.

“Wow.”

“I can’t believe you’ve still not played the game.”

“Okay next one” Bella laughed to avoid the lecture, “‘Ellie, tell them Ellie is the little girl, who broke your fucking finger!’”

You laughed and wrote it down, one of your favourite lines you said when you were little, thinking you were all grown up because you got to swear a lot.

Bella had beaten you to it, as they scribbled the same name as you.

You hopped up on the stool, settling into yours and Bella’s third interview of the day. Only this one wasn’t so much an interview, more a music video.

Bella sat opposite you adjusting the acoustic guitar on their leg, strumming the strings a couple of times to make sure it was in tune.

“Okay, what about Dina? Cascina or Paolina?” Bella asked from opposite me carrying on the quiz they started on the way over here.

Bella’s concentration went to the guitar in their hands, as they adjusted it and looked at you for an okay, you smiled with a nod and they started finger picking the song you knew all too well. ‘Take On Me’ by A-Ha, the infamous Dina and Ellie song.

Your concentration went to the song, as you waited, looking at the floor beyond the mic.

“Talking away, I don't know what I'm to say, I'll say it anyway, today is another day to find you…Shyin' away. I'll be comin' for your love, okay.” Your voice was a little more mature than when you recorded it for the game, you closed your eyes, one hand on the mic. Bella’s fingers danced over the strings, as they switched from chord to chord, fingerpicking the strings.

“Take on me, take me on, I'll be gone, In a day or two” Your foot tapped against the bar on the stool, to create a beat for you, as your eyes focused on the greenery backdrop closing when the notes got higher.

“So needless to say, I'm odds and ends, but I'll be stumblin' away, slowly learnin' that life is okay, say after me, it's no better to be safe than sorry. Take on me, take me on, I’ll be gone, in a day or two…”

With your eyes closed you couldn’t see the way Bella wasn’t focused on the guitar anymore. Far from it. Their eyes were glued to you, studying you as you sang, the way your nose would scrunch when you sang a higher note, or the way you licked your lips before every verse, their soft eyes didn’t leave you for a second. And my god did the fans notice.

Bella was besotted. Nobody else existed in this moment, in this moment it was just you, them, a guitar and a cheesy 80s song. There was no cameras, no crew, nothing.

Their hands were purely relying on muscle memory at this point.

You opened your eyes and looked over at them, smiling slightly, as the line ‘You’re all the things I’ve got to remember’ left your lips, and Bella was gone.

You were it.

Nobody compared.

—chasers have the ability to see each other’s locations through the use of a mutual radar app. Typically, this isn’t used for any Scientific Reason (TM) but instead used to see which chasers took a bite out of the Bad Decisions Bagel and are now getting pelted by baseball sized hail. Whoopsie daisy.

—chasing is 95% driving, 4% crying while eating gas station food, and 1% getting a front row seat to the wrath of the gods. You will see things you won’t believe, and part of the job is being able to keep your cool while you do

—tornado? Oftentimes not the scary thing while chasing. What is? lightning from the anvil of the storm striking right next to you even though you are miles away. (this is called a positive polarity strike due to the charge arrangement of cloud+ground, and comes from the top of the cloud as opposed to the base. They’re thousands of volts stronger than your average boom). These are affectionately termed “bolts from the blue” and they are terrifying. Why bolt from the blue? You can be standing under clear sky and still get got. Sometimes you’re in Kansas and you’re the tallest object in 100 miles. This instills True Unease.

—the movies often depict the titular main character standing in the middle of what looks to be Actual Hell, all dark and gloomy and windy. Sometimes that does happen. In reality, most of us are outside of the storm looking in, and are surrounded by blue sky on three sides and looking at Super Angry Cloud on the fourth.

—chasers tend to gather at gas stations before they go out on a storm. If you see a large gathering of particularly excitable (and oftentimes a lil disheveled, hey, we’ve been on the road for weeks) people chattering at each other while pointing between their phones and the sky, you should probably head home and brace for things to get a tad bit windy.

—experienced chasers always have something called a “bail out”. This is a pre-planned study of where you think the storm will go and the roads associated, so that if the storm decides it really doesn’t like you, you can leave without getting run over. Some rural counties only have one road. Some counties only have dirt roads. (Hint hint, dirt turns into mud when it gets wet. Don’t do it.)

i was reading your disability post n was wondering if you could explain the height/body differences they apparently mentioned grif and simmons having in s14? icr anything about it but i live for those little details

Yes yes yes absolutely!!! So season 14 is technically only sort of canon, but in the episode Room Zero (s14, e1) we do get somewhat animated bodies! However, they’re never, you know, standing right next to each other, so height is hard to gauge in that episode. Still, here’s a still that gives body types

RT are cowards of course, so they didn’t make grif actually fat (he’s like, chubby at best here, he’s barely got a pudge between his chest plate and codpiece) but you can still see differences. Plus them appearing the same height when Simmons is further back implies a little bit of height difference (my personal headcanon puts grif at 5’7” and Simmons at 5’11”).

We also see body type difference in recent stuff with the QvsA, where they used the larger male body type for Grif and the smaller male body type to Simmons (they also feature Simmons’s prosthetics!). It’s really pretty hard to see much difference, though

And these are only the physical evidences, Grif is pretty much constantly getting shit for being fat so like, we know that he’s fat, and since Simmons does A LOT of that teasing, we can pretty much draw the conclusion that he’s at least somewhat thinner than Grif. Also, some additional notes from the Fun Facts section on the RvB wiki for QvsA:

So we know they at least have different body types, and this causes some fun issues with the surgery thing because, well, even if they were the exact same height the likelihood of having the same length of arms, legs, fingers, torsos, etc? Completely implausible. And the wording that Sarge uses is extremely particular when Grif wakes up from said surgery when talking about his hand in season 2 episode 34:

So we know that, at the very least, Grif’s entire shoulder and arm was replaced by Simmons’s. That’s scary enough when you consider the differences in bone lengths and sizes and everything, but Sarge continues his list into different parts of a cow because, well, that’s the anatomical model he’s working with. However, this can give us insight into how much of Simmons Grif has, if only vaguely. So, listed out, we have:

Shoulder (self explanatory)

“Flank” lower belly area

“Made a left turn at the spare rib” the spare rib comes from the plate, which is the area above the flank. I’m taking this to mean that less of his mid chest was replaced than on his lower stomach.

“Up and over the porterhouse” the porterhouse comes from the short loin area, so I’ll call that lower back? Approximately. So we’re likely going up and over his side and replacing parts into the back.

“Brisket” I’m going to call this the upper chest, but just think above the spare rib

“Hocks” refers to back legs/hips

This is where Sarge is interrupted by Grif asking where they got the parts, so the post isn’t necessarily exhaustive, but it definitely gives a start. A very weird one. So, this is about what our model is looking like:

I’ve used maroon to approximately mark out the places we know were replaced with Simmons’s parts based off those lines. So we now have an arm and a leg that are, at the very least WAY skinnier than the rest of his body, which is objectively horrifying to think of on a weight distribution basis (his balance would be BAD) plus the fact that those limbs would very likely not be the right length? That’s rough, and also imagine the seam lines?? Like, we joke about Simmons’s pasty ass compared to Grif but simply put? Having a different amount of fatty tissue between the skin and bone of the body parts you’re sewing together would make it. Interesting, to say the least

(Side note: I believe that, were Grif’s,,, groin,,, replaced, they would make jokes about it, hence why I don’t have that marked. Tex caused him enough testicle trauma I don’t need to add more)

Hey everybody, Gregiffer here, with some major updates that’ll affect the channel and everyone watching, but will especially affect those who have been generously subscribing to my Patreon and have been supporting the channel financially. Recently, Patreon has announced changes to acquiesce to the Apple App Store’s policies, meaning that a) if you subscribe to Patreon through the Apple App Store, you’ll be subject to a 30% store fee, so maybe think about subscribing through your PC instead, and b) Patreon will no longer be supporting the per-creation billing model, which is what I’ve been using from the very beginning.

This has been incredibly frustrating, and counter to my philosophy as a video creator. I average about three videos a month, but if something comes up and I only make two videos that month, you pay less for less work. That’s been very pertinent this year, which has seen a great decline in videos because of my living situation. Now I simply have no choice, and if everything goes as it should, my Patreon will switch to per-month billing sometime in the first week of November, sometime between the 4th and the 8th.

Unfortunately, I can’t give you an exact day, because the process of making the change is needlessly complicated on the side of Patreon. You can’t just flip a switch, you have to get in contact with a Patreon employee through email, who may or may not be a robot, and they schedule the switch months away. I tried to get this going on September 2nd, and it took them more than a month to tell me that the switch will happen vaguely within the first week of November. Thanks a bunch, guys.

So what will this mean for you? First off, you will all want to consider how much you’ve been giving. If you subscribed at $1 per video, with the expectation of three videos a month, you may want to consider updating your subscription to $3 a month once the switch over has happened. Obviously, how much you subscribe for is entirely up to what, whatever you’re happy and comfortable with. Second thing to consider is time of billing. It is my understanding that for Patreon’s per-month billing model, you are billed the day you subscribed, instead of the end-of-the-month system the per-creation model uses. So for example, if you subscribed for a Patreon on the 15th of a given month, you’ll be billed every 15th.

So if you have certain times of the month where being billed would be inconvenient, like before a paycheck, you may want to consider unsubscribing, waiting until a more appropriate date, and then resubscribing.

Now let’s talk about subscriber reward tiers. They’re going to have to be readjusted. Once the switchover happens, it’ll shake out like this: $1 a month will still get your name in the credits, just as before. Getting the little advertising spots at the end of most of videos, where you can promote your channel, podcast, book, etc, that will now set at $3 a month, and I’ll be needing those who wish to continue with that reward to send me fresh links and information, or at the very least a “keep things the same” message so that I can get all of that sorted.

For early access and extra content, yes I know I need to do better at the extra content stuff, that tier will be bumped up to $10 a month, which is actually theoretically cheaper than when it was $5 a video and I was making three videos a month.

So, there’s a lot to think about, and further adjustments may need to be made as this switch develops. Keep an eye out for further updates on my social medias, I'll try to answer all the questions I can, and I’m sorry these changes are being forced on us. However this ends up shaking out, thank you so much for supporting me and this channel of mine, being able to support myself making silly little videos has been a privilege that I don’t take lightly. I think a problem a lot of people have with CI (including myself) is how different she is compared to the likes of v4 and talk. There was an obvious aesthetic set up by Gynoid that Cevio didn’t exactly follow through with and the color scheme came off as strange to me so i shall describe my few problems in sorta depth

Twitter

VFlower used to be EXTREMELY active almost like a person on twitter. I got curious during a car ride home and saw cevio attempted it but it didn’t hold the same strength as flowers did. While many people don’t even follow Vflowers account or even go through her post it’s still clear people liked having vocaloids seem realistic, like they were like us. It gave her a bit more relatability that could make even newer fans amazed. While The trend of realistic tweets from vocaloids has died down (sadly) to see they’re at least trying gives me hope for flowers future endeavors! Some of the things CIflower lacks are things that V posted which could be seen as risky for the company (some old tweets consisting of flower trying to flirt with girls, swooning over randos and talking about big boobs[😭???]) it gave flower some spice no other vocaloid softwares DARED to do!

Her Design

ah yes, the initial problem, her design. As fore-mentioned Cevio didn’t go with the exact color palette/scheme as the last few models but I still think it was a great idea. It feels like we’re watching an emo girl grow into adult-hood, flower now appearing to be around 17-24! The only problem is her color scheme. While I love the idea it just doesn’t fit flower and I think to make it work they had to change flowers most notable features, her hair and eyes. Her eyes have gone from magenta or pink (depending on who drew her when) to blue. Her hair also changed, getting a similar color to ia’s, more blonde and pink than white. And while I could go on about the software companies hating while haired characters (maybe they don’t sell as much like piko idk) or how they need to learn their audience consist of neurodivergent gays afraid of change, I don’t have an explanation for this one. Surely I could search and find out something but I don’t know why flower took such a leap from her talk vb to ci. I understand you change as you grow blah blah blah but still how did she go from confidence and the only problem you see is her dropping her head phones in talk to “c-can you p-pass the ketchup m-mi-miss?” She looks so scared and nervous😭.

Her voice

holllyyyyy crap. I could take the model, “pink eyes are unrealistic anyways… maybe it’s just shading” but the difference from AI and hand done is just.. wow… on one hand maybe maturing caused a bit more feminine to come into her life but oh my flying Fukase. Dunno whoever’s reading this but that whole “learn their audience” was observing how me and other autistic people felt about the design😭😭😭 I hate change so when I heard the lower one’s eyes cover I almost had a panic attack. Where is the angrodgany??? Where’s the vflower??? I get they’re supposed to sound realistic but it just sounds feminine. Could just be the creature of habit thing but I personally prefer her older voice banks just because of the power and emotion I feel from her voice. Some covers make her sound real, like she’s struggled just like us. So far the songs with CI in them sound… well.. AI. Advanced AI, sure, but ai nonetheless.

Monks - Des Dillon

I’ve been in a Funk. A Funk with a big fat capital F. Let me explain.

I had a whole thing lined up to talk about this book, about how sometimes a story is written in such a way that it begs to be read out loud. The difficulty in teaching Shakespeare to kids in English class is that it’s not meant to be read, but heard. It’s written with performance in mind, and trying to untangle it wholly within your own head won’t give it the space it needs to express itself. Monks has an element of this as well, and I can see why Dillon took it and turned it into a play after its initial publication, it’s expressive in a way that needs to be performed. I read the first third or so of this book out loud to myself, pacing my living room gesturing wildly like I was on stage again for the first time in twenty years, and it was fun! It felt like that was exactly how it was meant to be experienced, out loud, in person, in real physical space where it can breath and shout and play, where it can exist. But then disaster, I broke my glasses.

I broke my glasses while cleaning them on my shirt, snapped them clean in two, right down the middle. Less than a week later I broke my backup pair in the exact same place in the exact same way. Broken glasses means I can’t see which means I don’t see and by don’t see I mean I’ve stopped looking. I can’t read, I can’t write, I can’t diddle away on my phone for hours on end. Driving hurts my poor soggy little brain, as does literally anything that requires focus, no riding my bike, no video games, no model kits, no painting, drawing, sketching. I can’t see properly so I’ve not even bothered trying, I’ve let the Funk in and its made itself at home.

And stayed there. I wrote these first two paragraphs a month and a half ago, which was two weeks after finishing the book, I’ve barely left the couch in eight weeks. I’ve had new glasses for a while now and I’m still not out of the Funk, so it isn’t that. I tried to blame the weather, it’s been below freezing in the mornings and constantly wet and dreary, but no-one believed me. “I’ve been busy”, I say from my comfy chair, they’re not buying it. I’ve gotta come clean, I’ve been depressed. Not just sad and mopey, but real, teeth in the flesh depressed. Like a bulldog’s lockjaw around my ankle, the ol’ ball and chain dragging me down. But it’s me, I’ve created this, the Funk is coming from inside the brain, and I’ve sealed all the doors and closed myself in with it.

Dillon’s unnamed protagonist continuously refers back to time spent in “the Ward” with Jimmy Brogan, and those of us who know, know that there is often very little healing to be done in places like that; locked up with your own thoughts, ruminating between bouts of sedatives, only people to talk to are like minded or trying to fix your mind like. It’s suffocating, there’s no fresh air to be had, no way to stick your head above the clouds and feel the sun on your face even for a second. You’re in with the Funk, and you’re not goin’ till the Funk is gone. But where is it supposed to go? You’re trapped in there playing hot potato with the Funk, back and forth, bouncing from hand to hand, feeding it with every touch, with every contact. The Funk has seeped into the walls, it’s a sticky film over all the furniture, the entire place reeks of it behind the bleach, you can’t get clean of it because it’s everywhere, you can’t get clean of it in there.

Breaking my glasses might have been the catalyst, but what I’ve actually done is built myself my own personal Ward, not of wood and bricks but of Funk. Dillon says “at some stage we level our eyes to the earth and don’t look up the rest of our lifes”, that’s what I’ve done, I’ve stopped looking out at the stars and turned in on myself. We’re all guilty of this, in our own way, building up walls and keeping our whole world inside. It’s scary out there, and comfortable here in here, I tell myself, but in here there’s nothing but Funk, a circuitous bubble of the same thoughts ricocheting off each other. I need to get OUT.

This is what Monks is telling us, to get out. “We’re over here to stretch our lifes. Make them bigger. Experience things”. Healing happens not in my Funk in front of the TV, but out there, in the world. It happens when I meet a neighbourhood cat, or feed some ducks. It happens when I improvise a silly song with a friend in the moment, when I say something embarrassingly wrong on the phone and the world doesn’t end. It happens when I laugh about missing a shot in a game of billiards, and when the room cheers once I get it right. It happens when I breach above the Funk for a moment and take some space for myself. Every time I get out of my comfort zone and come back safely, my zone expands. Yeah, it’s hard, fuckin’ oath it’s hard. “But strugglin’s good. Strugglin’s perseverance an indomitable spirit. Strugglin’s searching for something stronger inside. Strugglin’s what it is to be alive”. The struggle is what helps the healing, It’s like training my muscles, I push them so they can grow bigger, without resistance I’ll never grow.

So that’s what I’ll to do then, push through the struggle to get out. Get out into the world, Run up a mountain, kiss a beautiful woman, laugh with friends, have a wierd conversation with a wierd guy, share a knowing glance with a cashier at the shops, feel the cold on my face, and see that it’s real. It’s really really really real.

when a strange guy covered in jesus merch comes up to you, bright and smiling, maybe give him a chance. you’ll mention your “girlfriend” (theyre nonbinary but you don’t wanna push it) and be surprised that he isn’t phased, he’s supportive even. you’ll realize he truly is one of those rare christians that loves jesus because jesus taught them to love everyone and value being kind. he’ll talk you about jesus like your 10 your old cousin talks to you about sonic and you’ll remember special interests can be anything.

befriend your partner’s old coworker who has a lesbian daughter and gushes about her to you and you to her. she knows youre nonbinary and lovingly calls you your partner’s “they” instead of girlfriend (its cute) but still misgenders both of you on and off. she’ll buy you slippers and earrings from ross that remind her of you. accept that shes 60 years old and her genuine care for you means more than say her vocabulary.

talk to the disabled person at your local coffeeshop who asks you about what youre drawing. listen to him when he tells you eveything about how a car engine works and what makes and models are his favorites, even when you don’t understand most of it. you’ll see him once a week and you’ll catch up when he asks you how your holidays were. he’ll tell you to be safe on new years eve because there are weirdos out there.

who gives a fuck about mspec lesbians. who cares if its “valid” or not. frankly, it doesnt matter. no one talks about mspec lesbians in real life because, like you w your dni, they’re hyper online. maybe you’ll meet a sugar mommy at a bar who tells you she’s a lesbian but she’s married to a man bc somehow, she fell in love with him anyway. she wants a sugarbaby because she needs to be with women to have a fulfilling relationship. you’ll think wow, i don’t know what to think of that or how to unpack that, but at the end of the day shes an interesting person that you got to learn about. she’ll buy you a drink and tell you you’re beautiful.

you won’t like all the people you talk to, but you will learn regardless. you will make friends, or maybe just passing connections, but they’ll be meaningful. walling yourself off and keeping yourself in a bubble of only people with your exact same opinions will render you unable to interact with the world and grow.

Visual Opposites

I want to take a closer look at this visual: Sorey at the front and center. To his left is Mikleo, to his right is Rose; but perhaps the better framing is that Sorey is the right to Mikleo’s left and the left to Rose’s right, since he’s the central point here. The protagonist.

When you look at the status art, this is true as well. When Sorey is with Mikleo, he’s on the right (from his side), Mikleo is to the left of him. They face each other, but their eyes see opposite directions. (I also want to note: Sorey’s bangs swoop to the right, Mikleo’s bangs swoop to the left.) (Everyone also knows this, but Mikleo almost always stands to Sorey’s left in the game, with the big exception when Sorey’s right eye was blind, then Mikleo switched to Sorey’s right side to cover him better.)

In contrast, Sorey and Rose face the opposite directions, yet their eyes are looking at the same direction. Their poses are even the same (mirrored), the way they stand, the right hand on their weapon, and the left hand. They’re just back-to-back. When Sorey is with Rose, he acts as the left, from his point of view here, Rose is to his right. (Sorey is still to Rose’s right though, from her side; they’re both humans to each other.)

Remember that in Zestiria, the right represents the mundane, the physical, while the left represents the spiritual.

Another interesting thing, from the perspective of character design, is their colors.

First off, I want to say that Sorey is mainly associated with two colors: golden/orange/yellow and deep blue. The latter is kind of obvious enough, but the former comes from the feather/bird motif that is treated as something very personal to him.

Fly into the sky A feather earring that he has always worn since he was a child. The bird, knowing nothing of malevolence, takes a flight off from its homeland to the vast world.

And just so people don’t think I’m making stuff up, some few examples where golden/orange/yellow is treated as his image color as well:

As seen from examples above, Sorey’s color is golden/orange/yellow when he’s with Mikleo, whose main image color is blue (as a water seraph), sometimes with teal-ish tone or even outright teal itself (of course, since the color is actually called 水色 in Japanese... water color, or maybe I should’ve translated it aquamarine?). And they do at least share the color blue (see also the Aizen Myouou part of this post), and even to an extent, golden/yellow.

I also want you to pay attention to their eye colors, green and purple/violet.

These are both complementary colors in certain color models (to be fair, not the exact colors, because they still need to think of how to make the individual character designs look pleasing, but the general colors are). Pairs of colors which, when combined or mixed, cancel each other out (losing hue) by producing a grayscale color like white or black.

(Sorey’s blue also complements Mikleo’s yellow, just like Sorey’s yellow complements Mikleo’s blue.)

They are, in theory and on the color wheel, opposite colors, but the finest harmonies are those between colors exactly opposed (retto contrario). Complementary colors look especially dynamic together because they play up each other’s intensity while appearing balanced since they equally stimulate different parts of the eye. A natural example of opposites attracting.

(I talk more about Sorey’s and Mikleo’s complementary colors here btw.)

Now, we go to Sorey and Rose.

Blue and red aren’t exactly opposite colors in theory, but since blue most often represents the cool and red most often represents the warm, people come to see them as opposites as well. Even their colors tell us of their characters: Sorey the calmer one and Rose the more hotheaded of the two. It plays into their red oni and blue oni dynamic.

(They also share the golden/orange/yellow accents.)

Then you have Sorey’s cloak that is mostly white with some black and Rose’s jacket that is mostly black with some white. What does this remind you to?

This is the taiji (太極) symbol, often seen when people talk about yin and yang (陰陽). The principle that embodies all potential things, including time and space. It shows a balance between two opposites with a portion of the opposite element in each section. Everything, as seen in the symbol, has both yin and yang aspects; imagine a hill with both a side that has the sun shine upon it, the other side will be the side that is shaded. They seem like opposing forces, but they’re actually complementary forces, interacting to form a dynamic system in which the whole is greater than the assembled parts.

(Also, if seraphim are associated with white, then we can assume that the humans are to be associated with black. They are, after all, malevolent creatures, even though they’re so much more than just the malevolence they produce. Still, though, this is a reductive way to look at both seraphim and humans: each has both their black side and white side, and they’re more than the sum of their parts.)
