TAOPP Things That Make Me Insane

• Rowan reaches out to Maya during Love and Everything during the line “I wish I’d learned that lesson sooner”, he spent his entire life refusing to listen to anything Maya had to say, and in the end he wishes he’d went with her. That breaks my heart.

• Rowan examines Jason’s crown in Love and Everything during line “Maybe no one’s shown you mercy”, he’s addressing Maddox during this, and he’s thinking about how King Astor harmed both of them.

• Rowan telling Louis to let him go and let his scars heal during Love and Everything, Rowan tilts up Louis’ chin, but doesn’t kiss him. It’s the two finding peace and a call back to Crown of Bones and Lead.

• This is a super nerdy theater thing, but TAOPP does this a lot due to the limited cast, and I want to point it out. Maya and King Astor are both played by Miel Escamilla, they just are him in shadow during act two. You can tell it is them because Miel is the only person in the cast who has short curly hair and it’s really distinct. Having them played by the same person adds the implication that Maya looks just like King Astor, and that’s part of the reason Rowan hated her so much.

• Back to them using the small cast to the full advantage, during Your Day in Court you can see the different actors reading out lines related to their characters while playing The Courtiers. Maya actually dances with Maddox’s actor and Jason dances with Louis at one point, but they’re shoved away from their respective dance partners back into each other’s arms to show that’s they’re being shoved into a heteronormative relationship.

• During Your Day In Court, Rowan’s actor and Louis’ actors start the song handing each other, foreshadowing.

• The line “Leave the metal tight around your finger till it aches” within Talk About It With You is referencing how trapped Jason feels by his relationship with Maya, the engagement ring being physically painful to wear.

• Miel can’t wear the fucking courtier mask cause of their glasses, which makes me laugh.

• There are two different versions of Your Day In Court on stage, one of them has Louis wearing a courtier mask, the other he is not. I think they removed it for the sake of making it clear that it’s just Louis being a courtier in that moment, not just some rando. Louis participating in The Courtier’s song implies he’s just as much of a gossip and threat as the rest of them, which I appreciate.

• Louis’ costuming has him wearing a single earring, which is a common flag to signal a man is gay. Love that for him. Funny part is the fact he has it in the wrong ear lol, it’s in his left, should be on the right.

• Louis’ costuming has him wearing a fuck ton of rings in the beginning, visually calling back to Talk About It With You. Rowan also has rings on, indicating he is a whore.

• Maya is shit talking with Jason in the background during When You’re Small, and the two of them are the one’s who send the plate over to Louis to get under his skin. You can see Maya and Jason laughing about it in the background.

• Rowan’s party has BDSM gear hanging in the background, which is hilarious. This implies someone had to either go buy all of it or pull it out of their closet for the show, which is really funny to me. Imagining some college kid going to a sex shop for props has got me chuckling.

• The strap on harness in the background implies that it is canon Rowan gets pegged.

• The Bohemian played by Miel steals the glass away from the Bohemian played by Andrew Matos, and when Louis walks away the two start bitching to each other.

• Rowan is conducting The Bohemian’s singing, he later mentions they’d do anything he asks, fun visual storytelling.

• The captions of Louis telling The Bohemians that “Some activities are best confined to one’s bed chambers” has their little “aww” reaction end with a :(

• Maddox being willing to kill a rat is what we call foreshadowing.

• Lana Gaige and Miel Escamilla both have the funniest visual gags in the show, their character acting just makes me laugh, especially when Maya and Rowan get to banter and bounce off each other. The eye shadow that Lana is wearing makes them a lot more expressive, and it helps emphasize their facial acting.

• “That’s treason” is the funniest line in the entire show.

• Rowan and Maya both have the bad habit of being very rash and pushy, the difference is that Rowan acts outside the system while Maya tends to act within it. The two are foils to each other in many ways, and in the context of Maya being the older sibling, you can see their difference in maturity levels.

• Maya and Maddox being separated by bars helps them have an emotional connection, it helps her break generational curses that her brother fell into, since Astors apparently are just massive slutty mcsluttersons that managed to give fantasy birth control a reason to exist. Rowan is repeating his father’s tendency to sleep with many others, this being shown via Maya being an affair baby.

• Jason steals Louis’ earring, and I think DeLaney Rose actually missed the throw of it, cause you can see them try and catch it and hear it hit the floor.

• The implication that Jason wanted to join Louis and Rowan, but the first reason he could come up with as to why not to is being engaged makes me laugh.

• “Might as well give it a stab” is a hilarious line and I love it.

• “Even in this cut throat— place.” Love that too.

• Rowan tilts Louis’ chin up right before Blood Moon, this gets brought back up later in Crown of Bones and Lead.

• It is mentioned someone tried to poison Rowan during Your Day In Court, which failed, and the fact he saw his mother get poisoned has the implication he knew how to spot poison and that’s why it failed.

• Rowan engages in double talk, the act of saying something that can have two different meanings and be confusing, during Blood Moon with the bastard lines. Foreshadowing.

• The choreography of Blood Moon has Rowan physically manipulating Louis and touching him in vaguely homoerotic ways, good show that Rowan is being manipulative and pushing his own worst traits onto Louis.

• Rowan makes note of Louis’ hands within Blood Moon, which is a show of his tendency to only remember his lover’s hands.

• Rowan cuts his own hand during Blood Moon, cut’s Louis’, and later on Maya pricks her finger on the same knife. Rowan is willing to get blood on his hands, Louis’ is manipulated into it, and Maya is willing to do it once for Maddox. Their different levels of willingness to have blood on their hands is such a nice detail.

• Maya fucking forgets she bought Jason his dagger, home girl is completely checked out of that relationship. Louis corrects her multiple times on Jason facts actually, she’s so uninterested in him that she doesn’t know these things in spite of knowing him for multiple years, but Louis is in love with Jason so knows about it all.

• Maya uses honeybees as a sign of freedom, mentions them multiple times, and says “Where the only queens are bees!” as the ending line to Dead Princesses go to Heaven.

• You can see Jason standing outside of Rowan’s room when Louis and Rowan are having pillow talk, dude is just standing there in the back.

• Miel motherfucking Escamilla actually cuts their hair off on stage in front of everyone, you can see people reacting in the background to it, and I have so much respect for that acting choice.

• Maya taking interest in Louis’ waistcoat is a nice little sign that they’re some flavor of genderqueer and prefer to be masc presenting, this implies that she regularly looks into men’s clothing, and that’s why she takes interest in it.

• Maya finding out Louis’ gay could potentially be a reason she’s willing to tell him about Maddox during Dead Princesses go to Heaven.

• Maya corrects Louis into calling Rowan her half-brother right before Dead Princesses go to Heaven, but right after Rush of Blood to the Head she calls him her brother, showing that she’s grown attached to him.

• Maya has her engagement ring on the wrong hand (for western audiences anyways), visual touch that she doesn’t love him.

• Miel has to tiptoe to hug DeLaney at the end of Dead Princesses, which makes sense story wise since Maya is supposed to be bigger than Louis, but the actors are similar heights. Fucks up the when you’re small bit if Louis is above Maya.

• Maya swearing like a sailor as soon as she talks to Rowan is so funny to me, cause that’s how siblings actually talk.

• You can tell Rowan and Maya are related as soon as they start plotting to get Jason killed by the king lol

• Rowan grabbing Lous’ hair comes back later on, but Jason protects him, and it’s a nice show of what it really means to love someone. Hair pulling is something common within sexual relationships, Rowan goes for Louis’ hair first, while Jason goes to protect Louis at every turn.

• Maddox’s tendency to be overly careful is such a funky detail, it escalates over time, and is implied to be a trauma response to being imprisoned. Later on they are pushed by ghost Rowan to act, and it helps them be a better lover to Maya. The two of them balance each other out, Maya having classic Astor bullheadedness, while Maddox is more calculating and careful than she is.

• “Or I could blow your head off” Maddox will later kill Rowan via third degree burns.

• Maya keeps looking in her bag and kicks the dress away right before It All Just Makes Sense because she’s packing her bags, but doesn’t want Jason to be a snitch.

• Maya makes fire metaphors during It All Just Makes Sense, which later shows that she’s not afraid of getting burned by Maddox and is willing to still love them after they kill Rowan.

• Maya and Maddox do kill and die for each other, Maya fakes her own death and Maddox kills Rowan for Maya.

• Jason is referred to with Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, the idea that someone who spends their entire life in a cave staring at a wall wouldn’t know what life is actually like due to not seeing the light.

• Jason has autism, which is really nice tbh. Only Louis really gets that Jason isn’t a prick, just sees things differently, and that Jason is lovable.

• Rowan’s drinking problem is visually seen right before Old Friend, he’s drinking and tries getting Maddox to with him, but Maddox declines. It’s a completely visual thing, but good visual storytelling that Rowan has a problem.

• Rowan calls Maddox a firebrand, which has two meanings in this context. There’s Maddox being a mage that uses fire, but also the literal meaning of firebrand, which is someone who is exceptionally dedicated to their cause. It has a double meaning to the character.

• Maddox’s cause switches from legalizing magic to saving Maya, they’re still a firebrand, but have a new cause to dedicate themself to.

• Louis leaves the room right before Rush of Blood to the Head because he said he wouldn’t help Rowan kill Maya, not just because of the alibi.

• Jason’s excited expression right after Talk About It With You hurts my feelings, heelllpppp.

• You can tell that Maya is an Astor based on the fact her first instinct after seeing Maddox for the first time outside a cell is to try and jump their bones.

• The script getting completely ditched when Maya and Maddox reunite is funny to me, they just completely yeet the thing lol

•I like that Maddox and Maya are able to have an emotional bond before a physical one, again as a foil to Rowan and Louis, showing that they love each other first the foremost.

• “Charmed, I’m Maddox.” Again, love that line.

• Rowan does in fact haunt Maddox after his death, like he said he would within the opening line of Rush of Blood to the Head, but it’s to help them.

• I like that Maya is packing her bags during Rush of Blood, and Rowan spends Maddox’s part staring at the dagger and conflicted emotionally. Rowan is also completely wrecking the room, the actor pantomiming knocking stuff over like Rowan said he would.

• Remember, in a Melliot production, always listen to the lesbian. The lesbian gives the best advice, the bisexuals give bad advice, but the lesbians are frequently right.

• Maya not finding a point in waiting relates back to her earlier sentiments, nice touch of how two characters can both be brash and quick to act, but their motivations for it can completely change the outcome.

• It’s Allies with Benefits instead of friends because the two aren’t even friends, Louis just sees them as allies, and Rowan doesn’t really have friends.

• The Courtiers speak of Maya’s death in past tense, while they speak of Rowan’s affair with Louis in present. They skipped over Maya’s death as basic palace gossip fast.

• Rowan focuses completely on Louis’ body instead of anything about his personality, even when he’s complementing Louis, he’s talking about Louis’ eyes. Louis offers Rowan the chance for an actual emotional connection, but Rowan just focused on his body.

•Rowan’s voice is higher pitched when singing about something he actually wants, but lower when faking it. He’s faking masculinity for the king, and actually does this when asking for Jason’s life to be spared.

• King Astor puts a bunch of stuff in Maya’s casket, but none of it is stuff Maya actually gives a shit about, showing how he fundamentally doesn’t understand his daughter. He doesn’t love Maya, he loves the idea of a perfect daughter, and pushed her to be that.

• I like the implication that Maya’s hair was supposed to be long during act one, but she cuts it all off in act two. It’s nice she gets to be a masc and happy about it.

•Maya takes her makeup off for act two, having white eye liner on during act one, but it’s gone during act two. It’s a really sweet thing.

• Maddox says that worst case scenario is a warlock blows Rowan to bits and that start all over again, and Maddox later kills Rowan, and the new kings are Jason and Louis.

• Maddox literally hiding in a closet to avoid Rowan and Louis fucking is so funny.

• Rowan is projecting so hard within Allies with Benefits (reprise), calling Jason manipulative and telling Louis that he should only love Jason’s body. He’s trying to take the Jason role, but failing since he’s an abusive prick.

• Louis wears pink on his coronation day, being allows to just be himself instead of what someone else wants.

• Rowan is constantly trying to get Louis to “fix” him, thinking Louis could make all of it go away, but no one needs that much help. Louis can’t make things go away, and Rowan’s expectations are unrealistic. I love the message that it’s okay to help your partner, to be there to support them and make things better, but there is a line that no one should cross. Rowan crosses that line, it isn’t love, it’s infatuation and lust.

• Louis is so worried about killing Rowan, he’s begun to wish that Rowan is dead, and he chooses to do the right thing instead of continuing the cycle of death and abuse.

• The crown that King Astor has on when he slaps Rowan is the same one that Louis lifts off Rowan’s head during When You’re Small, and it’s a flag that Rowan and the king will both die. Maya doesn’t ever wear it, and she gets to live.

• There was only one bed

• Jason considers what Louis’ wants and respects Louis’ consent, it breaks the cycle Louis is stuck in, and helps the two have a healthy relationship.

• Maddox warns of guards walking in on Rowan stabbing his father, and that’s exactly what happens. The way they mess with each other foreshadows Maddox killing Rowan, the plan getting interrupted and Maddox blowing Rowan to bits.

• Rowan is right in his assessment that him and Maya are similar, but loses the fact that Maya is completely dedicated to Maddox, which differs from what he says to Maddox.

• I do think Rowan has grown to care for Maya on some level, which is why he still is secure in wanting magic legalized, at least when he’s talking to Maddox about Louis.

• Rowan’s character arc is continuing the cycle of abuse, he becomes just his father by being an abusive drunk, and becomes just like the people who only sexualized him instead of being a good lover. Heart’s Blood shows that Rowan has a similar issue to Louis in the fact he is constantly being used for sex, but he doesn’t see the fact that he is doing it to Louis now. Even the song’s name is a show that Rowan doesn’t understand Louis and the fact Louis doesn’t what a blood revolution, Louis can’t stand blood or violence, while blood is Rowan’s entire thing. He’s using Louis, and Rowan’s big love song is him wanting ownership over Louis’ body and dousing that white in red.

• Heart’s Blood also uses double talk within it’s lyrics with describing Louis both feeling “burning, clawed, and drowning.” Rowan would feel it as a positive thing, a thing of love, while it would be a complete trap for Louis. He is misinterpreting what Maya believes, turning it twisted, and harming Louis in the process. He reflects on this later as a ghost, seeing how wrong he was.

• Rowan’s confession speech to Louis is possessive and has a desire of ownership of Louis, and it’s Rowan being selfish. He sexualizes Louis, is only willing to give up drinking for Louis instead of being sober for himself, and he doesn’t even both knocking. The refusal to knock is Rowan once again missing the fucking point.

• “You whore!!”

• “It’s not :(“

• “I thought you were STRAIGHT Jason!!”

• Jason puts his hand on Louis’ shoulder instead of tilting his chin up, nice physical acting.

• I like that If I Knew You Then doesn’t involve Jason or Louis’ physicality, they’re allowed to be interested on one another on a deep level.

• Rowan calls the King dad to be petty, but he’s also desperate for some level of his approval, for anything. It’s why he begs King Astor to say anything, he’s still a kid that wants some level of approval from a parent. If memory serves, Rowan is the youngest person in the roster, and he never got the chance to emotionally mature like everyone else.

• Louis is willing to fight for Jason in the same way Maya and Maddox are willing to fight for one another, something Rowan would never do for Louis. Louis’ fear of death disappears the moments he knows Jason needs him, he is willing to make a sacrifice for his love.

• Rowan is wearing white in the end, a new start.

• This next section is just me praising the actors lol

• Alex Conboy’s performance as Maddox during Can’t Hold Back The Tide amazing, the amount of emotion in their voice is such a skill, and they deserve so much praise for it.

• The level of breath control Lana Gaige must have to sing the little death song as Rowan dies is impressive. They already are an impressive performer, absolute power house on stage, and all the numbers they’re in always strike just the right chords. Sing whispering, on the ground, softly, and having to sound like they’re crying without actually crying is a testament to their skill. Trying to combine all those things is such a difficult thing to do, but they did it because they’re Lana Gaige and they’re an absolute demon on stage.

• DeLaney Rose broke my goddamn heart as Louis, just went right and stomped on it, and just right in my feelings. Crown of Bones and Lead is their best performance in the show, and it makes me cry.

• Andrew Matos as Jason does straight guy prick and autism gay man really well, you can see the natural progression of Jason’s character and how he changes through the show. Absolutely adore it.

• Miel Escamilla committed to the bit with the hair cutting, and I have so much respect for them for that. Some of the notes they hit during the show are amazing, and being able to do priss and prim mixed with “I’m five seconds away from backhanding you” is really nice, and I love their performance as Maya.

Damian- Damian is actually a legacy, not a demigod. Ra’s is a son of Hades. I had a fun idea about Lazarus Pits being corrupted wells of the Styx that crossed over into the mortal world.

And I think this will be the first time I post about this part, but Jason is going to be a part of the Luke, Thalia, and Annabeth crew. Luke ends up in Gotham when he goes south from Connecticut and they meet first. This is both so him and Luke have a good relationship and because Jason and Thalia being close is why Zeus doesn’t just kill him 😭.

ALSO ALSO Roy is a son of Hephaestus (blessed by Apollo bc Oliver is an Apollo kid (all Oliver’s kids are blessed by him but Roy is the only one that’s also a demigod)) and I have a really funny scene of Jason meeting the Titans for the first time and they’re like

bc Roy and Anastasia have a brother-sister relationship so Roy and Jason know each other pretty well. Also the demigods know superhero identities bc of Roy and Oliver.

My Opinions on Every Arc V Ship

Continuing my little “every ship of x Yugioh” series for no other reason than I feel like it. This time it’s Arc V because… a combination of Duel Links events, considering new ships, and Declan’s… existence put this series in particular back on my mind. Might use a combination of dub and sub names since within Arc V especially, which name I prefer varies wildly from character to character.

(Note after the fact: I did not realise just how many ships there were on this list. This took days to make. My descriptions get lazier and lazier the further into this you read, I can actually see myself slipping into insanity. Also, due to just how many ships there were on this list, I ended up considering a crap ton of new ships while writing this so... yeah these opinions might change in the future. A lot of these, especially the Dennis and Mieru ships, are more like first takes.)

Aceshipping (Masumi x Hokuto x Yaiba)

So basically LDS throuple. I can sort of get behind this but I’ve also been headcanoning Masumi as a mean lesbian for years now. Mean bisexual works too though. Based ship.

Alterationshipping (Yugo x Shinji)

I uh. I’m not really sure how this would work. Did they even meet? I guess they did both want to overthrow the rich but… I think Yugo was more concerned about fighting Yuri and looking for Rin at that point in the story. I don’t know, it seems a bit niche and not really my thing.

Amazonesshipping (Gloria x Grace)

Hard no. They’re sisters (and maybe twins?). Moving on.

Amethystshipping (Declan x Ruri)

Okay, really cool name aside, I cannot get into this ship whatsoever. I’m a believer in Declan and the bracelet girls and Riley and Shun all being reluctant siblings. That’s not canon (not within the series at least, Duel Links does lean into this though) but it’s how I see it so it prevents me from liking any of those ships. So I’m going to exclude any upcoming Declan/bracelet girl ship to save time.

Announcershipping (Nico x Melissa)

This is so stupid and I love it. They should duel each other with absolute garbage decks while announcing over their own duel like it’s the most epic duel in the history of the world like that one episode of Beyblade did with the two Blader DJs. Because there absolutely needs to be a card game version of that. You better not think I am being sarcastic right now. I mean this. It would be amazing.

Antiheroshipping (Edo x Kaito)

Can’t believe Arc V has canon crossover ships. I’ll do my best to go off specifically the Arc V versions of these characters. Kaito I’ve seen as aromantic for a while now and this ship… well, I can’t say I care for the idea of shipping a victim and a knowing willing participant of attempted genocide. Just… on principle. I can’t remember any of their actual interactions I’ll be honest. This ship doesn’t appeal to me.

Apparitionshipping (Yuya x Shun x Yuto)

Not my thing. I don’t have a particular reason for it, it’s just… eh.

Appleshipping (Yugo x Rin)

Yugo spent just about every second of his screen time either looking for Rin, talking about her, or crying over her. Kinda hard not to ship it.

Artemisshipping (Yuri x Yuya x Serena)

Okay, this one’s hilarious. Not because of anything in canon but because of the fic I wrote where Serena and Yuri eat the most horrible food combinations, horrifying both Yuya and Yuzu but especially Yuya. So that’s their dynamic in my head: Serena and Yuri do horrible things and Yuya faints. Top tier. Love this ship.

Asraishipping (Sayaka x Serena)

I interpreted Sayaka and Allen as much younger than the main group so not my cup of tea.

Astroshipping (Hokuto x Serena)

No feelings on this ship whatsoever. I never heard of it before now and I have no opinion on Hokuto.

Astrologyshipping (Hokuto x Mieru)

I think these two would be that one couple that talks about how their sun and moon signs are perfectly aligned and shares daily zodiac horoscopes with people. So I can kinda see it.

Athenashipping (Gloria x Serena)

And I also thought the Tyler sisters were way older than they might be apparently. Still don't like the ship though.

Duel Links took a cannonball to basically every single bracelet girl/bracelet girl ship in the Serena event which was… something. I was really only into one of those ships and it wasn’t this one but yeah that was… a thing that happened. Even ignoring that though, I wouldn’t care for this ship in particular. Very pretty ship name though.

Bambooshipping (Yuya x Isao)

Nah. All they ever did was beat each other up.

Bardshipping (Sawatari x Ruri)

These two should start a band together. Or some kind of singing songbird choir like in My Little Pony. As a ship though… I really just wonder how Shun would react to it honestly. He’s oddly patient with idiots but if the idiot is his sister’s boyfriend…

I don’t really care for either of these characters with Shun honestly but I’ll save those thoughts for those individual ships I guess. Not into this one.

Blackbirdshipping (Crow x Shun)

I shipped this one way back when I first watched Arc V. And now… it’s still my favourite Crow ship if we’re sticking strictly with Arc V. (I prefer his 5Ds ships.) I like the rapport these two have with each other, I like their outwardly gruff but inwardly protective almost fatherly personalities, and that little fist bump thing they do gives me life. Good ship. I hope they continue to visit each other post canon.

Blinkshipping (Yugo x Yuzu x Yuya)

This one weirdly kinda works thanks to all the screentime Yuzu and Yugo got together in the synchro arc? And Yuya and Yugo are so similar I could see them being best buds if they met again under different circumstances. Heck, honestly, throw Rin into this dynamic too. I can see them all getting along.

Yeah, I like this ship. It’s funny to me how much upbeat Sora annoys the usually tolerant chipper Yuya with his antics back in season 1. And also Sora can horrify him with horrible awful food fusions from hell.

I think Sora should try and eat Mieru’s crystal ball apple. I have no idea what this means in relation to this ship, it’s just the first thing that came to mind when I saw it. So… uh…

I kinda like how Mieru is mainly a ritual summoner while Sora is mainly a fusion summoner and those are the two summons that revolve around spell cards. That’s fun. Not my thing though.

I honestly thought I’d ship this more than I do. It’s fine, it’s got enough moments that I understand why it’s a ship, but it never particularly grabbed me.

This kind of gives me Spectre/Ryoken vibes. Except Moon Shadow is more mentally stable and not unhealthily obsessed with Declan the way Spectre is about Ryoken (at least the way I perceived it). So… the power imbalance is still there but I guess this is a more appealing version of that sort of dynamic for me ? I don’t know, I can sort of see this ship is my point. I’m just not very interested in Moon Shadow as a character.

You know, I’m actually kinda considering this ship now that it’s being presented to me. I can totally see Grace having a crush on Edo. I initially interpreted her having a crush on Yuya but honestly? I like this better. Maybe she always wanted to betray fusion but didn’t get the courage to until she saw Edo do it and that admiration of him and their shared experience later formed into romantic feelings. That’s a cute idea.

I know they only interact a few times and it’s just to commit horrible crimes but I like this ship. I feel like Dennis would sweep Yuri off his feet and they would also commit arson together.

I have absolutely no idea who this girl is so I have no opinion on this. If it’s the girl that told Asuka about how horrible the war was and tried to escape with her though, then I prefer that ship.

Emblemshipping (Serena x Yuya)

I feel like the only chance in canon these two would’ve had to interact on any level is that time period in which Yuya was going insane over Yuzu being missing so… him getting a crush on someone who “looks exactly like her” and acts similarly to her would feel like way too much of a rebound. Could work in a post canon setting though even if on its own, it’s missing the chaos of something like Yuya/Serena/Yuri.

Riley is too baby to be shipped with a teenager. I can get behind a sister dynamic between these two though.

This one makes way too sense. Three out of four of their counterparts are romantically involved with each other and the only ones that weren’t were forcibly kept apart their whole lives. The idea that Ray and Zarc were once in love before Zarc went off the rails fits the narrative well and adds another layer of tragedy to the situation. Plus, it’s definitely something I can see Leo leaving out of his story if it was the case and his misery makes me happy. Good ship and stuff. I dig it.

Ghostshipping (Declan x Yuri)

Nah. The only time I remember these two interacting was when Yuri threw Declan at a wall when Declan was trying to protect Yusho. Declan deserves better than that. I would treat Declan better than that. I couldn’t even throw him at a wall to begin with, that dude is buff enough to hold his father over a cliff with just his elbow and pull him back to safety. I’m not messin’ with that block of concealed muscle. I might date him though.

Ruri does seem like the type to forgive him if he apologised, at least the way I write her character. I kinda like the idea of Dennis apologising to her post canon and Ruri forgiving him and befriending him, which stuns him and makes him slowly fall for her. Yeah… I can kinda enjoy this honestly. It’s a total guilty pleasure but still a pleasure.

Yes. Yuzu duels all the female duelists for no suspicious reason whatsoever :)

My Arc V OT3 and possibly my favourite of all these ships (it’s very close between this and Fruit). Sora is an extra drop of sweetness and rambunctiousness in my beloved Fruitship and I’ve always loved his friendships with both of them so making it a throuple feels so right to me with how tied together their character arcs were. It’s a shame they didn’t get more screen time as a trio.

Okay so… I’m torn. I had been headcanoning them both as aromantic for a while before learning about this ship. Asuka especially came across as a closeted ace/aro in GX and with her GX counterpart, I definitely still agree with that. But she is different in Arc V, not that different upbringing would cause someone to be aromantic, that’s bullshit, obviously, but her personality and narrative were changed too. Honestly, I… I admittedly just kinda like my friend’s writing of them from what I’ve seen. I haven’t seen much but I like the dynamic she’s described. And also this one part I won’t spoil but man did it fit Kaito really well. And also Asuka did rebel against Fusion pretty quickly when she found out the truth so the whole fusion/xyz weirdness thing I have doesn’t apply here.

Uuuugh I’m really torn on this one, I can’t really give a concrete opinion on it but not in the same way as some of the other ships I’ve talked about here. So many of those I just had no thoughts on but this one is the opposite: I have so many thoughts on it that I can’t decide how I feel overall. So for now, this ship is a resounding “I DON’T KNOW.”

It’s mainly a horror game about cannibalism and murder, BUT it’s centered around two siblings who have a toxic, insanely codependent relationship. They’re really weird about each other but still so very much like your typical pair of bickering siblings. If you have heard of it, it’s FINALLY (yay!!) in early access right now, and part 2 (of 4) is released! Also, (SPOILERS? But it’s technically all over the Steam page reviews) canon content is 100% confirmed to contain explicit, undeniable incest in one of its routes! Like. It’s not subtext anymore. Not even sugarcoating this; it’s depicted pretty straightforwardly. And imo it’s arguably one of the “healthier”—for lack of a better word? bc I don’t think they’ll ever really be healthy by conventional standards—routes for the siblings’ relationship. If you haven’t played it yet, or haven’t checked out the newest installment, definitely recommend! The first ep was great but the second is FANTASTIC

Anon #2: Hi, this is the anon who was so enthusiastic about the Coffin of Andy and Leyley a couple of months ago. The full game is now in early access and can be bought on Steam, as the creator has decided (after a community poll) to release the rest of the game episodically. Currently episode 1 (which was the demo) and the shiny new episode 2 are available, with episodes 3A and 3B (different routes based on the choices made previously) being slated for release somewhere in 2024. So, we still have to wait sometime before the full game is finished. But for now, what does Episode 2 – ‘Graves’ offer us? (Warning: some spoilers) The answer is: pure gloriousness. It’s even better than I could've imagined in my wildest dreams. The relationship between Andrew and Ashley is just that amazing. Over the course of the (horrible, awful, and darkly hilarious) events comprising episode 2, we learn a lot more about our favourite pair of cannibalistic siblings. Their not-too-pleasant childhood is explored through multiple dreams and flashbacks, and for the first time we also have segments where we play as Andrew, providing the reader with direct access to what he actually thinks (and feels!) in regards to his beloved sister. And oh boy are his thoughts interesting! A lot of people who picked up on the interesting vibes between them in the first chapter assumed that they were mostly the result of Ashley’s obsessiveness, but this chapter contains an infinite amount of hints that Andrew is actually the one whose feelings towards his sibling are the most ‘romantic’ in the classic sense of the word. The way he physically touches her, the jealousness and protectiveness which was already present in the first chapter but whose full depth we actually see now for the first time, the fact that he regularly shares a bed with her to stave off his nightmares and panic attacks, but then it is revealed that he sometimes fakes them! In one flashback he asks his ex-girlfriend to tie her hair up, which would very obviously make her look even more like Ashley than she already does! At one point he literally thinks this about his sister: “You're struck with an odd urge to pull this broody bitch into your arms, and force her to stay until she smiles. But you push such an idea to the back of your mind. Where it may fester with all the other thoughts you wish you never had.” Ahhh, It’s almost too much, and that’s not even the best part yet of the episode! Depending on the choices you make, a situation can occur in which the siblings have a prophetic dream together (after falling asleep while holding hands! This game is just too much...). The contents of the dream? Well... I don’t want to spoil too much but let’s just say that a canonical incest route has now been 100% confirmed. I’ve already seen the artwork from that scene floating around on tumblr so people who have been following the TCOAAL tags might have seen it already. I could ramble about this game for hours on end but I feel like I’ve been writing and potentially spoiling way too much already. This game has completely taken over my brain and I just wanted to share that. I regret nothing!

WRONG literal associations for this, please disconnect from this just slightly but not entirely so I can tell you this story: When my sister was working in Alaska at a salmon cannery one summer, she was a grader, assessing the fillets as they came down the conveyor belt and deciding if they were nice enough to be sold whole, or going to get chopped up for the cans. Sometimes, when there were fish that were so obviously banged up they were going nowhere but canned, the Filipinos, who did the filleting further up the line, would cut in a big heart. And suddenly somewhere in her hallucinatory 16 (!!) hour long days my sister would see this mangled salmon fillet with heart carved in it, and look up in surprise down the line to see the filleters all waving & beaming enthusiastically at her, and she’d gleefully hand-heart them back. They called her Lala Barbie. Barbie obviously because she’s a tall adorable blonde, and I thought Lala was a twist on her name, but it turns out it was because she usually wore an oversized bright colored sweatshirt under her cannery scrub things, and they were thinking of the Teletubby. Every part of this is like my favorite story.

How come divorce is your favorite Calzona break up? I know you're fixing it in your fic and it's fiction so everyone can imagine whatever about these characters, but still. It was just so final. And they had so many issues at this point it's insane. And Callie was genuinely moving on and felt relieved to not be with Arizona anymore. I mean, I love Calzona because they're so messed up too, but actual divorce seemed like a step too far, you know.

okay so actually, every time i’ve said that the divorce is my favorite i’ve 100% been lying for the drama. s6 is my favorite breakup, the divorce is my second favorite breakup— but it’s close enough that if i’m feeling frisky, i’ll say the divorce is #1 just for the bit

the reason i love the divorce is because it’s so painful. i don’t think it would be as painful as it is if it didn’t hit at something so vulnerably human. the way it’s been building for years, the way they spent the entirety of s10 having moments of okay-ness constantly undercut by the culmination of their mutual flaws, the way they’re talking and talking and talking but never listening— the divorce is the worst of both of them. and i love the extremes of that. i find it interesting and complicated

i also love the post-divorce scramble at normality that happens after the time jump in s11. i love seeing that calzona’s weird little default is still being so wrapped up in each other and enjoying each other’s company and it’s so fucked up to be joking with your ex-wife about her sex life but they find each other hilarious. the absolute dysfunction of watching them circle around each other like their whole current relationship isn’t built on the ruins of a literal marriage, because at the end of the day calzona are obsessed with each other

but a big part of why i can enjoy the divorce despite the finality and the painfulness of that truly being the (canon) end of them is that i genuinely don’t believe it was supposed to be. SR was slated to return in s13. obviously that return would not have included penny. shonda has always publicly stated that she intended for calzona to be together at the end of everything, and i believe that. i really think that the plan was for callie to return in s13 (maybe even in eliza’s role?? idk that isn’t a developed thought it literally just occurred to me) and for that to be the beginning of a calzona reconciliation

i think the reason the divorce can feel so brutal is because it wasn’t actually supposed to be the end for them, and if they’d had the opportunity to complete that arc it would’ve been fulfilling. MFEO babe, i’ve always believed it

I have stranger things brainrot so have some fruity four headcanons (there’s a lot, so sorry)

- Steve’s parents made him learn piano, mostly as a show of wealth. They made him learn classical, but when he started teaching himself songs he liked, they stopped paying for lessons

- Wayne bought Eddie his first guitar (Wayne likes country or folk rock music, so that’s what Eddie learned to play in his early years)

- Robin collects rocks, if she’s out you can bet on her having at least 3 in her pockets at all times. She gifts them to people (Nancy keeps them all in a special Robin box)

- Nancy tells everyone her favourite book genre is mystery, it’s actually romance. She steals books from her mom

- Steve can sing, not insanely well, but good enough to surprise people. His parents never let him though, so he’s self conscious about it. But if he’s drunk enough he’ll sing along to his music

- to add onto the above head cannon, he’ll sing El lullaby’s if she isn’t feeling good

- Nancy gives Eddie hair care tips. She even takes him to get a perm in secret, he forgets he can’t get it wet and ruins it within 5 hours (she took pictures though, somehow Steve gets them all)

- Everyone borrows Nancy’s makeup. She pretends it bothers her, but she starts buying extra so there’s always enough (Steve uses lipgloss for the first time and Eddie snorts pop out his nose when he sees)

- Robin has bad sensory issues (canon) so Nancy finds her clothes that don’t irritate her, and gives her the idea to flip her socks inside out so the seams won’t bother her

- Robin loves listening to Nancy talk about her journalism stories. She always asks about them, and even suggests issues for Nancy to look into

- Nancy hates pickles. They’re not Robins favourite but sometimes she doesn’t mind them. Nancy gets so happy to finally have someone to take her pickles, Robin doesn’t have to heart to tell Nancy she’s getting sick of them

- Dustin gets Steve a mug with ‘best big brother’ written on it. Steve cries

- Eddie makes fun of Steve’s fancy hair care products. But he uses them once and they make his hair feel and look great, so he secretly buys the same products for home. He denies it vehemently

- after the Russian interrogation, getting high gives Steve panic attacks. He tried smoking with Eddie after Vecna, and Eddie held him through the panic attack. Eddie was extra careful with labeling his edible treats after that

- Nancy puts ads for Corroded Coffin concerts in any paper she works for, the crowds are always a little bigger after that

- Robin and Steve make corroded coffin shirt for the fruity four. They’re pretty horrible, but Eddie loves them. Asks for more for the rest of the band

- Eddie LOVES ketchup. Almost to a gross degree

- Robin and Eddie flirt very obnoxiously with each other in public. They think it’s hilarious

- Steve and Robin tell everyone they’re actually cousins just to get the dating rumours to stop. They swear Jason said ‘so what?’ after hearing this

- Eddie and Nancy start hanging out more, at first Nancy was helping him study but they actually got along great. Once Steve asked what they talk about and they both said ‘you’. They call themselves the ‘Steve’s type squad’ (they actually gush over a romance series they both read. Eddie would rather die than admit this)

au/episode where Obi-Wan and Anakin run-afoul of some Sith temple defensive measure and both completely lose their memory. Featuring:

wandering around a highly contested hell-scape planet fighting absolutely everyone because they both sense doom from both armies and instinctively trust only each other

it’s deeply embarrassing to be beat up by amnesia duo because they're flailing about really incompetently with makeshift staffs (sith temple stole their lightsabers and their muscle memory is adjusted for a weightless blade) while shouting at each other, “HEY SIR JUST REALIZED I CAN LEVITATE STUFF?!?! CAN EVERYONE LEVITATE STUFF?!?!”

(they think their names are sir and general because that’s what the clones keep calling them while chasing them down)

just the silliest fight scenes as the troopers are desperately trying to demonstrate they’re friendly while also attempting to subdue the Jedi before they die and obi-wan and anakin are really in tune with the force but barely capable at fighting so they mostly just dodge and do cartwheels while like 300 men try to tackle them. everyone looks stupid.

playful bickering over whose older because Sir looks older but maybe it’s just the beard (obi-wan refuses to shave in case General is right)

platonic cuddling because they both get cold and they don’t know they’re not supposed to 

they both sleep incredibly well, it’s honestly insane how much better they feel a week-in, even on the run they’re getting so much more sleep 

(this can most likely be attributed to a lack of crushing guilt and stress but the cuddling also probably helps)

Obi-Wan struggling to use the force and anakin trying to explain until Obi-Wan bursts into tears because “it’s not easy for him how are you making it look so easy”

“Maybe I’m just more experienced?” Anakin says in a panic. 

sparring with staffs like no- this is- this almost right but not at all...

Anakin being very gee whiz sweet a la episode one, like he sees some troopers are in trouble with the quicksand and insists that they go to the rescue.

the group of shinies are relieved but also very unnerved to be rescued by kind and gentle General Skywalker and scowling General Kenobi (Obi-Wan also wanted to help the troops but felt the need to be overly suspicious to balance things out)

alternating between being the risk taker and the cautious one (no change from canon there)

aaand Obi-Wan occasionally going: “What if we're married, or lovers? Maybe we should try and sleep together, just to see if it jogs any memories" because his default mode is slut 

Anakin: "I don't know man it feels wrong" 

Obi-Wan: "yes what does that have to do with anything"

(I’m not very into Obikin so the minor Obikin subplot would be a hilarious source of deep personal and physical distress to them once memories are regained)

Literally the entirety of what happens:

*make out for 30 seconds*

Obi-Wan: *breaks it off* “Yeah you were right that was super weird sorry”

Anakin: “uhhh” (it was super weird for him too but Obi-Wan’s a really good kisser so amnesia!Anakin now has uncomfortably mixed feelings)

Rex chasing them and growing increasingly stressed because everyone thinks they’re way more sexually involved then they actually are and just knows they’re going to freak out when they get back to normal

supporting evidence: cuddling, calling obi-wan ‘sir,’ the fact that the more time passes the more radiantly cheerful they seem- like we get that forgetting all their responsibilities is probably great but they keep getting more good-spirited (this is 95% because of the sleep), a lot of times when they find them they’re inexplicably shirtless and sweaty (meditating and sparring)...the list goes on

this is confirmed when they freak the fuck out upon regaining their memories. Histrionics, vomiting, avoiding each-other, crying.

they get back to coruscant and Anakin breaks down apologizing to Padme and she’s completely understanding, doesn’t consider it infidelity, completely natural given the circumstances, and then Anakin chokes out the explanation of sort-of enjoying his Master’s tongue in his mouth and how he almost even kissed him twice 

Padme: ”...That’s...it?”

Anakin: *sniffling* “I mean sometimes we woke up with boners but that kind-of just happens even when you’re in medbay or whatever...”

Padme: “I see so then you-”

Anakin: “Oh Force No! Oh wow, ugh. Yeah I guess things could have been worse, but still!”

Padme: “...A month and all you did was kiss once?”

Anakin: “I’m not explaining right”

sorry to be a freak and come here instead of actually commenting on ao3 but i love how tommy functions as this foil/parallel to jonathan in your fic???? like they both have a mentally ill mother and an instinctive distrust of men who attempt to enter her life (maybe reaching but i’m reading that tommy has a good reason for that distrust the same way that jonathan’s wariness stems hugely from his father).

and just like jonathan he’s parentified—going to meetings for her, making sure to keep her meds in order—but i feel like whereas jonathan has will to look after which leads to him turning the resentment he harbours for joyce inwards and having a very “buck-up and stay strong for will” attitude, tommy basically focuses all of his energy towards his mom (okay definitely reaching here i haven’t even seen them interact yet 😭😭) and is a cunt to everyone else ever—besides carol tee-hee—as his way of dealing with the anxiety of a child being forced into a caregiver role for their parent. like jonathan is fundamentally unable to be a kid (which is why i’ll somewhat defend him in s4 cause i think he deserved to get high and be stupid for once) while tommy is unable to be a kid in the area where he should most be able to which is why he acts like one in every other area. and hilariously his resentment is constantly flushed out because carol’s his gf LOL.

like i think jonathan thinking just for a second that it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if joyce’s anxiety drove away any asshole who might be initially attracted to her and then beating himself up for the cruelty of it because how could he think that? meanwhile carol says it for tommy and tommy pats himself on the back for finding a girl so blunt and brutal.

anyway you made me have SO many thoughts about tommy hagan even though my thoughts pre this fic were “man what a dick. he and carol are kind of goals though they genuinely love each other and stick up for each other”.

first of all do NOT apologize this is literally a dream 😭 i appreciate all comments so so much and honestly tumblr is a pretty good platform to get them because i can respond at length (and sometimes i hesitate to respond to comments on ao3 because i don’t want to put a notif in someone’s inbox and get their hopes up for a comment on one of their fics and really it’s just me responding which i know sounds insane but it’s just what i do) but anyways oh my god thank you so much

you’ve made so many good points that i didn’t even think about when i was writing it!!! my main basis for tommy’s background with his parents, specifically his mom, is that from the few crumbs we have of him in the show he is 1. very bitter and resentful of the people around him 2. very unsupervised (having sex in the 6th grade which….jesus) and 3. very unfazed by interpersonal family drama based on the way he was so quick to joke around about steve’s dad’s infidelity in front of nancy and barb. all that combined gave me the idea that his parents are probably divorced, which also gives him and steve this bond that partially helps explain why they’re even friends when we meet them in s1. like…as steve grows more cognizant of what’s right and wrong and starts angling himself to hang out with someone like nancy, a polar opposite from tommy and carol, i think it’s natural for the viewer to be like “okay why is he friends with them in the first place then??” and my explanation is that when you grow up with someone, you become very intertwined with their life and their struggles and that doesn’t all just go away once you get older and develop different personalities

ANYWAYS all of this is to say that writing tommy’s relationship with his mom this specific way was a choice partially based on the little tiny bits we have of him in canon and partially just me trying to flesh him out a bit more and explore why, like you said, he resents people so much and why he comes across so immature compared to steve even at the start of season one. i also like to think that tommy singling out jonathan when he’s putting his poster up is his attempt at consoling himself about his own situation at home by being like “well at least i’m not jonathan byers”

i will say…….jonathan is very important in this fic ;) so getting this ask was very thrilling because i already have plans to bring him into the story in a big way and seeing someone else sense his vibes before he’s even arrived is so so so cool :’) again thank you so much it’s ever fic writers dream to talk about their ideas at length like this!!!

ok so im like a mildly unhinged lore hoarder or something but ive been a big fan of your take on sagau bc idk it seems a lot more realistic than the usual “divine creator” sort of stuff. the characters are also a lot closer to canon while still being kinda yandere and honestly it’s really fun to read.

i saw a post recently about how god!reader would fit in while the primordial one (aka the creator of humanity in teyvat) already exists in-game, so i raise you this theory:

in co-op you can have a maximum of four players per world, each player is a guide of their own version of teyvat. so effectively you can have four guides in one teyvat at some point. there are five artifact types per set, each can dedicated to the five shades of phanes: flower of life, plume of death, sands of eon, goblet of eonthoem and circlet of logos. life, death, space, time, and the creator, is how i see it. the crown would be the ‘ruler’; the original god.

so i raise you: four guides can exist alongside the creator, since there’s always a bigger fish, yknow. the primordial one created humanity and the guides, well, guide it. each have a certain artifact type attributed to them and alone they’re pretty powerful, but all four together can achieve wonders.

idk, just food for thought and i probably sound insane but i think it might be an interesting idea if you wanted to include a multiplayer/co-op kinda scenario in your fics. love your work btw!!

My theory of Guide!Au and how [Name] being a god as well as fitting in with the teyvat mythology is that multiple guides can exist at one time. The thought that I tried to show in chapter nine is that there are a lot of other people who can do what [Name] does, [Name] is simply in a unique position of actually being pulled into the world. (Perhaps it's not unique at all.)

The difference between the guides and the Creator from the actual lore is that the guides never played a hand in creating the people themselves, however other folks from our world (the folks who do all the development for new updates.) Occasionally show up and mess around, which is why [Name] is seen as being so incredible, they have this power that other gods use to be cruel and all they are is kind. (Some of them may or may not see [Name] as being a young god because they can't do the things the programmers can.)

The thought of the Creator of Teyvats Humanity saying 'No, y'all have fucked with my world enough whenever there are teams of you, only four of you can exist here at a time.' Is hilarious to me.

the more i think about it the more i realize how insanely funny the whole deal in the 100 was between clarke & bellamy because they say you cannot bait a m/f relationship but that’s literally what happened. down to the emphasis on them being not just friends but BEST friends and actually that’s why they’re so obsessively insanely desperately devoted to one another and why they look at each other as if they wanted to start making out right in the middle of the battlefield. #besties #bro #no hetero. the fact that their (M/F i repeat M/F!!!!!;;/&_;;) actual true love bond was shoved down the audience's throat as platonic while the short-lived hot and intense F/F (i repeat F/F +"!$(_;#?_!#(";$!) relationship that was actually kinda bad for clarke, and rushed and mediocre in general was deliberately sold as true, epic soulmate love instead. the way bellamy’s two relationships started always off-screen whenever clarke wasn’t around with 0 development and their whole purpose being to show how much bellamy held back and repressed and coped with and through them. mostly though, the crew’s shameless, defensive denial of there being ANYTHING remotely romantic happening there when there it was, all the ridiculous amount of evidence plain in the text (which was put there By The Crew) that they were in mad crazy desperate love with each other, right in front of our eyes just sort of sitting there. the subtext that became progressively more explicit as it went until it was literally just Text. and they never said anything because why. why didn’t they ever say anything. what was the reason, narratively speaking, for them to never actually get together. like even when the show got objectively bad. it was the most obvious, in the best interests of the show thing to canonize it. it’s so fucking crazy it literally reads like, as if bbc merlin had merlin be a girl and gwen a man and literally nothing changed. as if in the destiel show castiel was a girl and literally nothing changed. bellarke was literally a m/f ship between the two leads that had more romantic build-up than 90% of most relationships in general western media, labelled as “best friends forever <33” it’s hilarious and despite all the frustration i actually LOVE the fact that it was never canon bc that’s like half the reason it’s so iconic.

this is SO long of course. i have a lot of thoughts about this man and they’re all beloved <3

first impression

10/10 flawless design. i absolutely ADORED that they made him an artist instead of an inventor like in batb 1991. not that there’s anything wrong with 91 maurice!! i love him too!!!! but i just thought it was such a fun update. and his first scene with belle is so insanely sweet, her helping him put the gears in place and she knows which piece he needs before he even realizes it,,, gosh. i love one (1) father-daughter duo. i just adore them!! and him saying “just a bit of snow… in june” and the whole scene of him being freaked out by chip TALKING TO HIM. gosh, first impression i loved this man instantly.

i love him even more!!!!! i love how much he loves!!! i love the way he is so protective of belle, how he did everything to keep her safe, even though it hurt him so much to leave his life in paris, and his wife, behind. every now and then, now being one of those times, i get into phases where my brain is stuck in pre-canon land. young maurice raising belle, or even younger maurice falling in love with maria. them being married. them expecting their first child. them never thinking anything could go wrong until the worst happens. IT MAKES ME CRAZY. i just adore maurice so much and he’s so kind and soft and such a fun character to think and write about :”)

favorite moment

gosh how could i pick one!!! HOW COULD I PICK ONE!!!! his scenes with chip and also with gaston & lefou are hilarious, he’s just such a naturally funny character - picking kevin kline to be maurice was a stellar casting choice.

but i love seeing him be a loving father!! honestly probably my favorite moment is when they’re saying goodbye to each other in the tower. the whole “go, live your life. and forget me.” “forget you! everything i am is because of you.” “i love you belle, don’t be afraid.” “i love you too, papa. i’m not afraid.” LIKE!!!! i’ve screamed about this before but there is something SO SIGNIFICANT about the fact that in a movie where the utterance of “i love you” is literally the climactic factor, the words that change everything, the first time these words are ever said is from maurice to belle. from father to daughter. it just shows like!!! THAT’S the love that belle learned!!! that’s the love belle knows!!! that’s the love belle had in her heart in order to show such immense amounts of kindness toward adam who by all accounts did not deserve such grace. but she was taught such beautiful, sweet, accepting love by her father that she was able to see past everything and find one tragic man’s deeply buried heart. i just love that scene so much, and maurice is just such a wonderful papa. he’s flawed, and he worries a lot, but everything he does for belle is out of pure love for her, as well as the lost love of his wife.

idea for a story

gosh i mean, i’ve written about him a handful of times! i love that man!! i love writing about him in the village, raising his chaotic little daughter with the wild spirit and brown eyes both inherited from her mother. (which i have a little series here.) i also love writing him post-canon!! finding so much joy in this new amazing life for him and his daughter, being so happy that she finally gets to have her adventures, learning to love adam like his own son and being the father that adam never had, HAVING GRANDCHILDREN AND BEING THE BEST PÉPÈRE IN ALL OF FRANCE!!!!! he is adored by all, that sweet man. i don’t think i have any current wips in particular, but he’s around in a lot of my fics. i love to explore his relationship with adam a lot, just because there’s so much sweetness there — after such a rocky start for their first encounter haha.

i don’t know, i do have one vague idea that’s actually a REALLY old wip involving his oldest brother. the concept is basically that he somehow survived the plague and is also somehow still alive and he finds maurice years later when he’s living at the castle. but the idea stops there because i don’t really know how the encounter would go just yet. i headcanon maurice had three brothers though :) emile, and twins nicolas and félix. maurice was in the middle, after emile and before the twins.

it may be a bit unpopular to prefer him as an artist than the inventor? but from what i’ve seen in the fandom, regardless of any opinions on the movie, everyone seems to love maurice. he’s just the best :”)

BUT ROMANTICALLY!!! OH MAN DO I HAVE FEELINGS ABOUT MAURICE AND HIS WIFEY!!!!!!!!!! i’ve already written about their backstory in this post, so i’ll save my breath here a bit. but her name is maria and i love them IMMENSELY. even though there’s so little, it’s still so clear how much they loved each other, how much maurice still loves and misses her, some 20 years later. the way that the music box he’s making to represent paris is of the windmill, of his home, resembling the time he painted the portrait of his wife and daughter. how he still has that portrait so proudly on his wall. she was his muse! she’s still his muse! all these years later! his dear maria!

and the way it’s still so hard for him to talk about. it’s been so long and he still gets choked up. but he equally smiles so brightly because gosh, she was just everything to him. their love burned so brightly and that flame never extinguished. it’s so heartbreaking when you remember the full picture but writing about them before any tragedy struck, they’re just so in love!!

i have so many and i don’t know where else i’ll get to write them down so i’m gonna say multiple:

oh! i headcanon his full name is Maurice James LaRue :)

he cried the day maria told him they were going to have a baby. he just couldn’t believe it, after all his struggles, all his failures, all his loneliness, he had found true love and they had created a beautiful little life together

he also cried the day his daughter was born!!!!

he called belle “little bug” when she was a kid. “bug” as she got older. i think he still calls her bug sometimes, even years and years later when she’s a mother herself <3

it’s true that maurice taught belle to dance but i think maria taught him first. he was never a bad dancer he just didn’t ever have anyone to dance with until her

since the local school wouldn’t admit his little daughter, maurice taught her everything he could. he borrowed books from pére robert and anyone who would be kind enough to spare one. he read to her and taught her to read as quickly as he could. he taught her basic math with beans and nuts spilled on the floor. he pointed out bugs and insects and the creatures of the garden and the sky. he knew it wouldn’t be everything the schools could offer but it would be as much as he could do for her. he knew his girl was bright and he wasn’t going to ever let it go to waste.

i think he’s really good at cooking. it’s another art form to him. unconventionally, maurice was always the cook in his marriage. maria grew up wealthy and never learned. maurice was often on his own, and had to gain the practice to survive. he loved cooking for her, and he loved cooking for belle, too. even more so, almost, because she was so curious and wanted to learn it all. so they would cook and bake together. he’d share recipes he remembered from his mother, as well as recipes he made up and had become all his own.

i think he had a sweet friendship with pére robert. i think he was very helpful to maurice when he first moved to the village, especially with looking after belle and just helping them get established in the town. even to this day, even as his daughter is the QUEEN, maurice will still take time to go back to the village to grab a pint with his old friend pére robert. they pass the time and have nice, neighborly discussions about life.

a sort of sad headcanon, but i’ve always thought maurice just carries such guilt with him. he knows how much belle wants to explore the world and he wishes he could muster the strength to move them back to paris but he just can’t do it. he’s too emotionally blocked. he thinks he’ll never be able to go back to paris again. (though he does, when his daughter gets married there.) and he raises belle and keeps her happy and supplied with books and adventures as much as he can, and she never indicates that she resents him in any way, (and she never does!) but he just feels guilty. like he wouldn’t blame her if one day she up and left. sick of this town. sick of him holding her back. and of course, she’d never do that. but i just think that’s something he deals with.

after belle and adam are married, he very regularly calls adam “son.” he kisses his cheek upon greetings and partings and treats him as his own. it’s overwhelming for adam (in the best way possible) but he’s so entirely grateful for him. he slowly learns to open up to him, being able to confide in him, and trust him, in a way he was never able to with his own father.

and “son” becomes such a staple term of affection that years down the road, when adam has a son of his own, he always calls him “son” — and of course, he’s named after maurice. what better man could be the namesake for their darling little boy?

maurice loves sketching his little family, loves watching them grow. his grandchildren become his little muses. and they adore him just as equally, climbing on his lap and asking him questions and telling him a million stories in mere minutes. he hangs on their every word.

yates-

how i feel about this character- yates is my everything. he’s so funny and so sad and so relatable i genuinely can’t put into words how much i care about him. i project onto him really hard he’s legitimately just ogh. oughg

romantic ships- really just benton tbh, i think they really have a great dynamic that’s a perfect mix of genuinely healthy and hilarious banter, earnest care for one another, and gut wrenching angst. one of my fav things about them is how much they say without actually saying anything. right from the get go (honestly forget which episode it’s in but one of yates’ first) he’s missing and unit doesn’t know where he is, and benton asks the brig and there’s such deep worry in his voice and eyes idk. i was sold from that point on. there’s many other moments i could talk about but yeah they’re so fucking good and a really interesting show of two characters who clearly care about each other but are not able to adequately express it in their work setting imo. also i have a theory that the tom yates is dating in PROSE happy endings is tommy from planet of the spiders just cause it seems like the truth to me and they’re ok but not like benton/yates.

fav nonromantic relationship- YATES AND JO. you know this. i’m so insane about them they have such a close loving friendship it’s so cute. they’re almost dating but he’s gay so they’re not dating it’s really real. they care about each other so much i’m obsessed with them. also such a small moment but when jo checks the time on yates’ wristwatch in the dæmons. it’s so cute they function as 1 entity sometimes

unpopular opinion- i don’t know if enough people care about yates for there to be popular/unpopular opinions about him tbh. that being said maybe that i absolutely see where he’s coming from with the operation golden age thing. like being not-fully-recovered from violently painful and traumatic brainwashing and being approached by a group claiming to be trying to save the environment, anyone would do what he did imo. also the fact that he was fully prepared to die, maybe even expecting it, maybe even wanting it, makes it really hard for me to understand how people see him as a heartless villain in that scenario. like nah bruh

something i wish had happened in canon- i guess maybe just more content. even when he played a major role in stories, he didn’t get much screentime, and his struggles were very infrequently focused on. i would have liked to see a bit more care put into the depth of his character (in an overt sense, cause it’s definitely there in subtext/implications/throwaway lines)

crossover ship- tbh i don’t do crossover ships, i just don’t get it

jo-

how i feel about this character- MY FUCKING GIRL. jo. jo. god. she’s genuinely my everything, and my second fav doctor who character closely after yates. it takes another kind of likability for an entire episode to basically come down to jo being such a loving and selfless person that her pure kindness destroys the sci-fi equivalent of the devil. she’s just so fucking good. also it’s hilarious how dumb she is but it still doesn’t dictate her character. yes she’s stupid, but that’s a trait that’s sometimes good, sometimes bad. she has other traits and skills that balance it out. she’s pretty much the world to me.

romantic ships- ok they never met but i’ve always loved the idea of jo and liz. i think their personalities really balance out perfectly, and they’d have a hilarious and adorable dynamic- jo being very forward and openly sweet and liz sort of being out of touch and closed off, trying not to let her feelings show. i also kind of like cliff and jo. i hated it initially cause her exit is so… 😕 like it is in character for her to marry a guy she just met but idk how i feel about her dropping everything and leaving all her friends for his scientific endeavors, it seems out of character. however, i think they’re funny together and i love the idea that everyone at unit hates cliff.

fav nonromantic relationships- YATES AND JO AGAIN!!!! but since i already talked about it it’s also worth mentioning jo and benton, who are just fucking adorable friends (especially in the three doctors, hugging and holding hands when they’re nervous, it’s so cute and silly). also jo and the doctor are the father daughter dynamic of a lifetime and the scene in time monster when they’re in jail and he tells her the story of how he started seeing the world in color has made me cry before.

unpopular opinion- again idk how many opinions i know. i think a popular hc is that she’s a lesbian which is so unreal to me she’s the most bisexual character of all time. BUT that’s a very little one that i don’t really have that strong feelings about. i guess people often think she’s sort of a typical damsel-type companion which is so far from true, she’s such a whole character with such a fleshed out personality with strengths, weaknesses, interests, and feelings. i will never understand the argument that jo is a weak character.

something i wish had happened in canon- honestly i thought she was a really well done character with great relationships with everyone she interacted with. i genuinely think the only thing that could really improve the viewing experience when it comes to jo is a couple more seasons tbh, although i completely get and respect manning not wanting to do the show anymore after delgado passed away

crossover ship- again. maybe i’m missing something but i don’t really get it
