Ain't no way you're paying victim. You called Zuko a supremacist colonizer when his whole arc was about rejecting the Fire Nation's nationality and colonialism. You defended Aang prioritizing his culture over Katara's trauma. You can't get mad at Zuko for brushing off Aang using his culture to project his self-righteousness and not at Aang for dictating Katara's grief by implying culture is the only right way. In no way was that user being racist.
(Especially because Aang has made fun of cultural Water Tribe food and touched Water Tribe artifacts like they were toys)
YOU started the confrontation with her, then got mad that she rightfully replied (twice). You're butthurt because you were proven wrong. Grow up.
Hello anon, may I draw your attention to the fact that my interaction with the person you obviously mean here was limited to one post in which I disagreed with her opinion and dared to express my point of view, in which I was so polite, that I even apologized for the fact that the post turned out to be long and praised her art (yes, I bought that, mistaking this AI for real watercolours. Only after the last post did I look more closely and noticed all these countless artefacts, sixth fingers and meaningless shadows lying on the wrong sides of the form). I wrote my opinion and forgot about it because, you know, I have a life. But it seems that my post really hurt you and this person much and you felt so insulted and offended that you have not been able to calm down for several months: that person wrote gigantic (but rather meaningless) “responses” a few months later, you all bombarded my mailbox with anonymous hatred, and took ridiculous attempts to slander my art.
And, anon, can I ask: do you even read what you are responding to? I didn't call Zuko a supremacist colonizer; I called him the great-grandson of a colonizer (which is literally who he is in the story). And yes, Zuko's role in history is worse than it could have been for a conventional great-grandson of a supremacist colonizer, because Zuko personally took part in his great-grandfather's war, attacking the Southern Water Tribe, threatening the elderly and children, and using physical force against them
Tumblr media Tumblr media
burning down the Kyoshi village and trying to capture the avatar, the world's last hope, even after he began to realize that this was not right (that scene from the book one where he turned away from the fire nation banner).
Just because Zuko repented and self-improved doesn't suddenly erase these facts from his story. I think that remorse and deep pain for his actions will haunt Zuko throughout his life because he truly became a good person, unlike you, who are just ready to pretend that none of this ever happened and are not worth remembering.
Aang is a genocide survivor. His beliefs are hard-won experience. Because he knows what it's like to lose your culture, your people and find the passed away parent (their direct parallel with the Katara). His philosophy of forgiveness is not something he was taught in school, nor is he the affluent 21st century suburban boy as he's so carefully portrayed by you. This is his experience. And he shares this experience with his friend, who is also a genocide survivor. He and Katara share this experience and Aang has every right to tell her his opinion. It is Katara's choice to agree or not, and she makes her choice, but Aang had every right to express his opinion.
And I wonder, anon, what can you say about Sokka? He is just as much a victim in this situation as Katara. Sokka is not a pacifist or an air nomad. Kya was also Sokka's mother. And he is also against Katara committing a murder. This is not the first time I have seen how, while attacking Aang, haters pass by Sokka in deathly silence, and past Zuko who also agreed with Aang in the end.
I will not specifically address your point about Aang being a racist for not liking traditional Katara’s food or for putting a hat on without knowing what kind of hat it was. I don't believe you are stupid enough to actually make such arguments seriously, it must be trolling. It’s clear that you have nothing to complain about Aang at all, because these arguments look desperate.
It's impressive how much the opinion of a stranger on the Internet can hurt you. Are you so offended that someone dared to respond to your baseless accusations against fictional cartoon characters? Or maybe you're so offended by the fact that I can criticize a character and keep liking him (Zuko is literally one of my three favorite characters, along with Toph and Aang). If you look at my blog, you'll get a pretty clear impression of how much I love Zuko and what a giant amount of time and effort I spend on art dedicated to him. Because I see all of Zuko's flaws and still continue to love him—unlike you, who only love the emasculated "ideal" version of him. As very well said here, your treatment of Zuko is very similar to how Ozai treated Azula: "be absolutely perfect, otherwise you're a good for nothing waste of space". This is very noticeable from the posts of the person you are defending here.
So yes, the advice to grow up is very good, but you should turn it on yourself, who, for some reason, writes your complaints anonymously, like a coward, or on those people whom you are defending. This is the Internet, and if you're not ready that not everyone agrees with your opinion and that someone can actually respond to your takes, maybe you should just get offline.
(I see that you want to start a drama, but you are in the wrong place. Any anonymous letters like this one will be deleted.😎)

One of the main things I have learned from the internet, that I think would never have broken out this way in real life, is how extraordinarily intolerant people are of learning that someone, somewhere doesn't like their favorite thing. People you would never have met in your life will become so hurt and scared and heartbroken over knowing that you, a complete stranger who they probably wouldn't even like, have "rejected" them in this way that they will act absolutely weird about it to your face. The acting-weird often involves these tough guy antics that are designed to cover for their hurt feelings--they try to turn it around like YOU were hurt by THEM, even though you had no awareness of them or their interests and the actual tough guy thing to do would be for them to just not give a shit about you. It's like they sort of know that they're just exposing their patheticness in public, but they can't or won't control themselves, so they just plunge into a spiral of acting weirder and more pathetic until you really wish their mom would come pick them up.
This message brought to you by the fact that the only time anyone is ever rude to me on Letterboxd, which is a weird place to go after someone to begin with, it's in the comments of my bad review of THE HEART IS DECEITFUL ABOVE ALL THINGS. Edgelord dudes, who are some of the most delicate flowers on the entire internet, will come after me because I said something mean about their imaginary girlfriend Asia Argento, and they try to frame it like I'm the one who's getting trolled and acting butthurt because otherwise, obviously, this would all be far too embarrassing. And let's be clear that they're specifically standing up for the movie based on the "memoir" of a pathological liar who pretended to be like the queer hustler version of a Dickensian orphan; Asia Argento was friends with (and dated, depending on your take) someone she believed to be this person, so talk about getting trolled. But more to the point, she's been credibly accused of grooming and raping the boy she cast in her very bad movie about exploited children. Like maybe this is not the hill you wanna die on, guys, maybe you should go express your grief to people who don't like XXX instead.

so- whats the deal with that 13 reasons why thing anyway ? isnt it like... just an entertainement thing like the others, that ppl can pick to watch or not just like the others, exept that it says "so uh theres real dark graphic stuff in there so know what youre getting into" ? like i genuinely dont get how hating it is different from any other anti rethoric, esp since... literally all medias exept fanmade/free stuff are about making cash ?
Feel honored ´cause I only got on my laptop so I could properly answer you.
My issue with the netflix show 13 Reasons Why
So for anyone who doesn´t know yet, 13 Reasons Why is the netflix adaption of the same-titled book by Jay Asher from 2007.The plot of the book revolves around 16-year-old Hannah Baker, who committed suicide by overdose a while ago. Her classmate, Clay Jensen one day receives a package with seven cassettes, each side numbered from 1 to 13. Clay goes on a nightly trip through the town while Hannah´s voice on the cassettes tells him why she killed herself - and what role he played in it.
In the book, Hannah was more shy and kind of introverted. She was new in town and her only “friend” had just moved away. Then she fell for a guy and put his trust in him, so far as to give him her first kiss. Her trust is crushed when the same guy spreads around the rumor that he was allowed to touch her breasts and make out with her and since we all know, High School is hell and now everyone thinks the new girl is a slut. She becomes an outcast.A little bit of hope blossoms when she becomes friends with two other new students and regularly goes to a café with them to talk about their problems. After a while, their friendship breaks and not only that, but these two friends actually drag her into their own fight and use her to provoke each other. One of them even pushes her status as a slut just to provoke the other. Her trust has now been broken yet again and she´s alone. Again. Her only safe space now is at home. There she can be herself and no one will bully her for something that was only a lie. But one day, she hears a noise outside of her window and gets scared. To prove if her fear is justified, she asks a seemingly nice girl to help her. They find out that one of their classmates followed Hannah home and took pictures of her in her room when she undressed, when she was just sitting there. And even worse, they caught him masturbating under her window. Her only safe space left has now been taking from her.As if that wouldn´t already be horrible, said “nice girl” now also spreads rumors that Hannah is a slut and it starts to affect her in every way. Guys who show interest in dating her only want her sexually and when she goes to a shop, she´s being sexually harassed. She gets more and more depressed and her parents are gone most times so she doesn´t really have anyone who she can talk to. She loses trust in anyone. Clay tries to be nice to her but she´s so far “gone”, she´s so desperate and lonely that she´s scared of trusting him or of him helping her. She has to listen to her old friend being raped as she hides in a closet out of fear. She has to live with the fact that she couldn´t help her and that a car accident she was involved in caused the death of one of her classmates. She can´t take it anymore, so she changes and hopes someone notices. She wants to reach out, so in a class she anonymously asks the teacher if they could talk about suicide, to see if someone - anyone - would catch on that it´s about her and maybe try and help her because she´s too scared to say it herself. But no one does and even if, she´d never know because one of her classmates, the guy she rejected after he hit on her, took away the notes she had in the little bag every one in her class had to give each other compliments and support. Even the poetry she shares with someone she thinks could be a friend, the poetry that shows her vulnerable side, is published by said friend. So even that little support she could have had was taken from her because the dude was butthurt. She has a mental breakdown in the hallway.Hannah starts to think about suicide and she gets so bad that she doesn´t scream for help when she is raped, she just silently cries. Her last hope is supposed to be her counselor but he pretty much victim blames her and tells her to get over it.So she is alone, depressed and has no safe places anymore. Every little attempt at getting help, at reaching out, has brought her ridicule and rejection. Side B of tape 7 is her last word “Thank you” before she dies after she swallowed pills.Clay, shocked about what he heard, sees another girl at school, an old classmate of his, and recognizes all the changes in her Hannah had just talked about on the tapes and decides to run after her to maybe prevent another suicide from happening.
The message of the book was over all that what you do and what you say to someone can affect someone in a lot of ways and at worst, can even cause a snowball effect. Justin´s rumor about Hannah being a slut was the snowball that caused pretty much everything that happened to her afterwards. The sexual harassment, the voyeurism, Alex involving her in his fight with Jessica. Maybe the only things you can´t blame it for was the car accident everything that was with Bryce. But if that one thing hadn´t happened, Hannah might have been fine. Everything after that took a bit of Hannah´s safety, of her happiness and trust. So she killed herself.
I got the book when I was eleven. Bad idea because I had my ´till then worst depressive episode and the book didn´t really help with it. But I loved it, so I read it at least once a year. When I got on tumblr, it saddened me that the fanbase for it seemed so small because the book touched me. I could probably still recite the last verse of “Soul Alone”. Now imagine how happy I was when I heard that a book that influenced a major part of my youth would be made into a netflix show and produced by one of my favorite celebrities. They even talked to psychologists and mental health professionals to make it as good and appropriate as possible because they wanted to spread awareness about the danger of suicide and bullying! They wanted to make a show not only about mentally ill teenagers but also for mentally ill teenagers.
When I watched it, the first thing that confused me was the order of the people on the list and that Clay listened to the tapes over a few weeks. The order of the people had a good reason since she talked about it in the order of when it happened. Clay listened to them in one sitting while walking through the town and being confronted with people and settings that affected Hannah. So I wasn´t really happy about the way they went with that.
The second thing that confused - or more, annoyed - me were the characters. Hannah was rude and way more extroverted. I can´t say how many times I rolled my eyes when she “trapped” Justin in that bus and pretty much played with him. Also her entire suicide was played as a revenge act, since you never saw any of her attempts at really reaching out and you never really saw her getting worse. It glorified suicide as an “in your face!” thing for people who hurt you and made her appearance as a ghost in season two seem like suicide was anything but a long-term, definite solution to a short-term problem.Jenny, the blonde girl who caused the accident and I think was even the one encouraging Hannah to go on a date with Zach, was suddenly black and was called Sheri. Tyler was suddenly a victim when he was actually a voyeurist. Zach was a heartthrob when he harassed Hannah and took away her only real support at school because he was butthurt.
But one of the worst character offenses in my opinion was Courtney. Courtney was the girl Hannah asked for help to catch Tyler taking pictures of her at home. Courtney massaged her and later on told everyone Hannah had a bunch of sex toys and used her for her own popularity. She was the last real straw before Hannah got really bad. She had no real description other than “manipulative attention whore who uses people to gain popularity”. What did they make her? An Asian lesbian. They chose to make the worst and most manipulative girl in this entire story a mix of two minorities. Because that´s definitely the kind of representation you´d want as an Asian lesbian in the USA.
Now to the things that really bothered me about the show itself. As a reminder, everyone involved in the show told the media that their goal was to raise awareness about the consequences of bullying and suicide and that they had talked with professionals to make the show as appropriate and accurate as possible. A show for mentally ill teenagers, not only about them.Every psychologist and professional for mental illness will tell you that showing suicide and rape graphically can be extremely triggering for mentally ill people. Especially graphic suicides only invite copy cats. It´s dangerous and harmful to show it this way and everyone with an ounce of experience in psychology will tell you that.
I read the book prior to the release of the show on netflix. I prepared myself for the rape scenes, I prepared myself for Hannah´s mental breakdown, I prepared myself for Hannah swallowing the pills and dying.
What did I get?
Clay showing Skye´s self harm scars
Tumblr media
And Hannah graphically slitting her wrists
Tumblr media
I spent the rest of the night rocking myself back and forth scratching my arms because my mind only circled around this scene.
None of these scenes were in the book. Both of these were needlessly added to create shock value and drama. Changing Hannah´s suicide from a drug overdose to her slitting her wrists in a bath tub and bleeding out did not serve any purpose. It was unnecessary and only triggered those who didn´t know it would happen.
“But it has an age rating!”
It´s a show about High School students, specifically mentally ill ones. You really think teenagers won´t watch something about them?
“But it has trigger warnings!”
A usual trigger warning can be for anything from drug abuse to sexual harassment to death. They are so unspecific that the sheer image of Hannah grabbing a bottle of pills and the mention of her suicide could have warranted a trigger warning. It didn´t prepare you for anything. And again, for the book readers it was just a slap in the face because none of us were prepared for this bullshit.
This show doesn´t care about its viewers or about the things they go through. Otherwise they wouldn´t have done this in season one and especially not this “sympathy for the school shooter” bullshit they apparently pull in season two, in a country that on the day the season was released had a school shooting. All they care about is the money.
Also, if you want a taste of its fanbase:

Once in the friendzone always a Martyzoned
I don’t like Marty. I don’t understand how is “Team Marty” a thing, how it’s even in existence.
Tumblr media
Let’s start with who is naked guy... I’m sorry but so many people insist he was treated badly and I have to say BY WHO?? Other than Colin a couple of times (because they only see each other a couple of times) when was he treated badly? By Logan because he didn’t remember him? They weren’t friends, my guess is they didn’t have classes together since Logan was a year or two ahead in school and lets face it, Logan when he first shows up he partied hard, why did he have an obligation to remember a guy he had hired to work at a party? The “I’m seeing a uniform” thing... I don’t know if it was offensive or him just being “high” lol actually I could be wrong but when Logan first shows up I didn’t like him as much although he did make me laugh, and I really thought he was high lol the way he walked and talked in that first encounter, the squint saying I’m seeing a uniform of some kind... Or maybe he simply didn't remember because why would you if you only see them in a specific context sporadically, why would you remember someone who wasn't your friend or classmate? I get it can be seen as mocking but I honestly thought it was more for the viewers to mock Logan as “frat boy probably high or drunk out of his ass in broad daylight, doesn’t even remember his own name”, than for Logan to mock Marty. Other than that, Marty was always treated with courtesy by Logan (he offered to treat him and that wasn’t meant to be offensive, why would Marty agree to go to the friggin chinese restaurant KNOWING how these guys spent money, when he didn’t have money to pay for himself!? who was to guess he didn’t have money? Why is it so horrible to offer to treat him, is it because it was another guy? because he was interested in Rory? I thought that one was bad on Marty). Colin not so much, but I always thought Marty had a deep inferiority complex. Colin insulted again and Logan gave him a look, again saying although non verbally this time, "don't be an ass". But this time Marty was out of earshot.
Tumblr media
Why is it assumed that because a guy is interested in you, and is apparently nice to you, you automatically have to fall head over heels for him??? Why?? Because he happens to be a guy and you’re a girl so you have to take the first dude who happens to be civil because otherwise you’re at risk of what... the big bad wolf? Of actually dating someone you’re... what’s that word again, oh yes ATTRACTED to?
Don’t get me wrong, when we first met Marty (I mean really meet him not naked drunkard passed out in the hallway nor trying to humiliate Rory in her pj’s and bringing her to his creeper friends who say “oh yes nice robe we all took turns trying it on”, seriously? that’s how you try to win a girl?) despite the trying to humiliate her, I liked him, I thought HOW COOL!!! Now Rory can have an actual GUY friend, someone who will be like the male version of Lane, a masculine (softer lol) counterpart for Paris. Other than Michel (but in a little aspect as much as I positively LOVE him, he doesn’t count, I’ll get to it in a sec) the Gilmore girls don’t have any guy friends, straight guy friends who aren’t romantically involved with their closest girl friends (I love Michel but not only was he Lorelai’s friend not Rory’s and older than her, he was also gay so in the not attratcted to them part he’s already not attracted to women), men who while unattached, instead of drooling over them choose to be just friends with them, men who could be into them but really aren’t.
We saw Rory get rejected by William the laundry guy (now him I thought looked cute too bad nothing but humiliation afterwards came from that, for Rory lol) but we don’t see either Rory or Lorelai have actual guy friends who aren’t into them. Lorelai and Luke were friends for years but there was always this undercurrent of “more” between them. So when I saw Marty appear and I thought FINALLY a new kind of friendship. And at first things seemed to go very well, they were friends and he was funny and they had movie nights and they’d study that was fun
Tumblr media
lol I mean he would even try to go head to head with Paris (losing of course but one had to give it to the guy for the sense of humor).
Two things were perfectly and absolutely clear from day one
1. Rory had ZERO romantic interest in him whatsoever
2. Marty never made a move for Rory.
Yes we saw that Marty started taking SOME interest in Rory, asking her if she had a boyfriend, and trying to see how that was doing, but seriously dude? seriously? That’s how you work it? You’re just cowardly feeling out the land to see if she might reject you before you even try? We, viewers saw that, but Rory just saw her friend, a guy to talk to.
Say whatever you like about the Rory boyfriends or crushes even if you like them or not EACH OF THE GUYS: from Dean to Tristan to Jess to Logan (heck even poor one date Trevor), they all made their intentions perfectly clear once they were into her. Even Logan, he didn’t want to make an actual final big move because he didn’t want a relationship but he flirted with her, he always was very clear like he was interested in her and after that, they started being together and then they got in a relationship.
Marty was sort of a pet, a lapdog (I love dogs, I have a lapdog, is not an attractive quality outside the canine world) and a sort of a doormat, always ready to be at her feet at her side, at her beck and call.
Tumblr media
Why must she owe him anything simply because she was his friend and he felt something else? Facts are:
- Dude never ever asked her out on a date
- He never ONCE said he was interested in her (before it was SPELLED out to him that she wasn’t during Chilton’s little Anna visiting
- In fact when he asked her if she was with anyone, he said I’m just curious, which prompted her to go looking for who? Oh that’s right, NOT Marty ;)
- He was a sort of a lapdog poor thing.
I feel bad saying it but he was always at her beck and call always around her yet never actually trying to get her attention, never even trying to flirt with her or complimenting her, never ONCE even attempting to ask her out. He was a bit of a doormat, always ready to be relied on, stepped on, never saying no, never denying anything, never having anything else to do but be around her... She liked him as a friend, she considered him a good guy, but he was always going to be a friend and nothing more because he put himself in that spot all on his own and then actually got mad because he had it spelled out.
Tumblr media
I mean the guy had clearly SPELLED OUT he was considered a friend, and at first I felt sorry for him. I felt really bad for him because he had been sort of a pet, not really considered a guy not even considered a best friend...
But then this “wonderful” friend decides to simply bolt, he dissapears after sending Rory back in a taxi during the whole Anna debacle and he doesn’t talk to his friend. Same friend he used to visit and talk to daily, he just stops showing up, and so when she suddenly sees him outside decides to try and talk to him, invite him to watch movies, to hang out as they used to, to try and reconect their friendship, and is perfectly clear she was still treating him as a friend, Rory was always a little self centered to notice and honestly, which one of us at 19 in that situation would have noticed the very subtle signals almost non existent that Marty had? And what signals were those? He was at her beck and call, that’s friendship, rather too “doormat-y” because he’d never say no to her, he’d never hang out with other people and her, just always hovered around her, he came running when she called and he asked if she had a boyfriend “just out of curiosity”... are those signals?
See, I’m one of those people who think men and women can be friends if they want to, no extras whatsoever just friendship, I have guy friends who are my closest friends who treat me like another guy sometimes or sometimes like a sister depending if they’re being annoying or protective. I’m an adult yet I jump up and down while grabbing my best friend’s arm (a guy) while he indulgently rolls his eyes at me (lol) and tells me to calm down. I would hug my guy friends or hang of their arm WHEN is someone I really see as a friend. I don’t see how watching movies with a friend or studying with him, even having her feet on his legs for a while (at 19 I really don’t see the bad of it) I don’t see how that is leading him on. Why? Because she’s a girl and he’s a guy? I’d put my legs up on my best friend’s bed (girl this time) or on top of her legs while watching movies, if she was gay or we were both gay then I’d be leading her on? Or is that only because it was Marty on the recieving end and Rory on the unconscious end? Will it be the same if Marty hadn’t been interested and Rory had, would people still assume he SHOULD have gone out with her? he SHOULD have been interested in her?
I always thought Rory treated Marty as a friend, why shouldn’t she try and invite him to watch movies (Duck soup) when she didn’t know why he had briefly lost touch with her? He only stated he was into her when it was perfectly obvious, after she had already SPELLED IT OUT loud and clear in his face that he was nothing more than a friend to her, when it was clear to a blind man that she was already involved with Logan, that’s when this great friend decides to make a move on her? Why? because that way he can have the excuse to be butthurt and bolt.  See that’s my problem with Marty, I think with friends like that, who needs enemies?.
Marty is this guy who constantly put friendship coins in the little “relationship with Rory” machine, and when “love” or “sex” wouldn’t come out he got offended, angry and left his friend. If it was only that, I’d probably still feel only mildly annoyed over Marty and a little sorry for him and that would be that, but on season 7 he had to show up again... why, Marty? why didn’t you stay doing musicals?
Tumblr media
He shows up and instead of being for example “oh hey yes I knew you, you know life, work, school crazy stuff how have you been haven’t seen you since freshman year” or such “crazy how people can lose touch huh?” I mean that would have been a lie but he wouldn’t have seemed like this sad little character who didn’t get over his one sided crush with Rory EVEN while being in a relationship with someone else! WHY??? He could have been awkward but over her, but no, Instead he pretends he doesn’t know her and becomes monosyllabic idiot who grunts and makes Rory uncomfortable. (I’m not defending Rory in this little part, she should have said something after the initial shock, she should have spoken up and confronted him and told Lucy but I’m not talking about that right now) I never understood why he came back? to create a conflict between Rory and her new friends? To make a fight between Logan and Rory? I stopped being sorry for Marty right after Anna shows up to break havock at Yale and I started REALLY hating Marty when he came back in season 7. If only he had stayed as a friend, if only he hadn’t come back as this pathetic little man with a huge inferiority complex, reverse snobbery and still drooling over some girl who had only ever treated him as FRIENDS! from day one!!!! They didn’t even become an item or even kissed, nothing, he was this sad little man still hung up on a first year crush. Oh Marty, you could have been as cool as Lane, but you had to go and ruin everything. For all of the above I just really really REALLY don’t like Marty

I’d like to address the following: Stop reducing Jalec to labels such as racism, incest or abuse. First of all, just because 1 of every 100 jalec shippers criticizes Magnus for his ethnicity doesn’t mean all shippers do. Second of all, almost all jalec shippers ship malec, so no one criticises EVER at Magnus. Third: most jalec shippers ship jalec as a mid-ship, i.e. a ship that should have happened BEFORE their respective endgames so to solve issues and close cycles.
Fourth: it isn’t incest. Yes, a Herondale married a Lightwood in the 1800s, but the connecting genes are more deluded than anything. Yes, Maryse and Robert took Jace in but they NEVER treated Jace as their own son (bookwise and showwise), Jace was taken like a child they took in, was he loved? Yes. Did Jace see them as family? No. Jace doesn’t understand the concept of family much until he faces it through Clary, and showwise, once Alec yells at him to tell him they are his family. Jace said to Clary “they are like my brother and sister”. LIKE not an absolute. And it is his way of telling Clary Izzy and I are nothing and I’m single ;). One Alec’s side it is the fucking same, it isn’t until that moment that he switches the chip. He never saw Jace as a brother, his guilt wasn’t because he wa his brother it was because a) he was a man and b) he was his parabatai and best friend. He felt the guilt that comes with falling in love with someone of your own gender, as those who have experience this know. IT isn’t an easy moment, you find yourself not fitting what the overall community tells you it’s normal (for a boy to like girls, for a girl to like boys). His feelings for Jace are a sexuality struggle, not a familiar one.
Yes, they’re calling each other brothers now. Now that they’ve moved on Jace has moved on with the idea of his father as his only family. He’s assumed the Lightwoods are the closest he’s had to a family, and he’s finally seeing it now. But remember one thing: when two people are together, the family of your loved one is also your family. And Alec is calling Jace brother because he’s finally moving on (and because his mother, Maryse, who took him in, acted as if she had turned her back on him), moving on what he feels for Jace which isn’t yet erased regardless of Magnus (first episode, parabatai lost, Malec date to point out minor points where his feelings for Jace were addressed).
That doesn’t mean they completely see each other as siblings. And more importnatly: it doesn’t erase that there was a moment where they didn’t. Where Alec who first saw Jace as a kid, had already made hearteyes at him. It was then when he developed his crush for him. He fell in love later, but he already liked Jace as more than a friend when he was 12 and Jace 11 (which let me remind you, that’s not childhood but the beginning of teenage for boys and when feelings begin to develop).
Just because Alec is with Magnus, Jace wo’t stop being Alec’s first love. Just because they’ve moved on CANONLY with their feelings (apparently, at least, since EVERYONE minimally logical accepts Alec still has feelings for Jace) doesn’t erase whath appened before. And Jalec shippers, WE ship Jalec:
Platonically: Always, never going to stop. They love each other in a deeper way than romantic love or familiar love. They’re parabatai. That will never cease, even in death, they’ll be ruined at the lose of the other. No matter how much you butthurts try to erase this.
Romantically: Season 1 and before. And in all those settings where fics are done, where rps are done, the romantic feelings were reciprocate and thus they actually developed a relationship. Or those aus in which Magnus and Alec break up (like it’s going to happen because their break up is canon) and Alec solves his feelings for Jace and they are however briefly and try out because AUs are to be experienced and experimented
Lastly, but not least important: STOP BRINGING INCEST INTO THE POOL WHEN YOU SHIP WINCEST WHO IS 100% INCEST AND 100% BIOLOGICAL INCEST. Unlike These two, the Winchester ARE and SEE each other as siblings as family. Ship what you want, but stop telling people to stop shiping what YOU don’t approve for idiotic reasons (or well, for morals that can’t separate fiction from reality or the idea that absolutely everything done in fantasy romanticizes it)
Also, remember what I?m saying here: 80% of Malec shippers ship JAlec. And 80% of Jalec shippers ship Malec. Why? Because Alec’s feelings matter. What Alec felt for Jace matters, and the idea of a world where he didn’t have to struggle with rejection and never had to feel not enough or not good until Magnus appears (and even after Magnus appers because he’s immortal and has been wth even more people than Jace has) matters. Alec and his feelings for Jace matter. And all the possilbities for his different ways of achieving happiness matter
Also, really, it isn’t racism. It isn’t choosing the white over the asian, it is choosing Alec’s first choice as a possibility. Maybe SOME do it out of racism. But surely NOT ALL.
Long Live Jalec. Long Live Malec. Long Live Clace. Long live CANON AND NON-CANON RELATIONSHIPS THAT RESPECT CHARACTERS TRAITS. If you want to attack shippers, go to those that ship Alec with females erasing his sexuality. Or those that place Magnus asexual erasing his bisexuality. Or those that rule63!Magnus and still ship her with Alec.
Also, about abuse. Yes, book Jalec can be seen as abusive. As well as Malec, Clace, Sizzy, and basically every relationship there, since abuse is part of the teen atmosphere of all those relationships in the books. But not showwise. And most of Jalec shippers are show shippers. Because the show and Dom and Matt made it that wy. Because Dom and Matt’s chemistry is extremely good and undeniable, and for once, TWO MALE ACTORS AND TWO MALE CHARACTERS CAN BE SHIPPED BECAUSE THEIR SEXUALITIES MATCH (Jace might identify as straight, but he’s just as bisexual as Magnus is and no matter how much you fight it, it is the truth, and ending with Clary doesn’t erase that possiblity, no straight man on earth mentions homoerotism like he does to Simon after the biting, no straight man on earth feels offended because he’s not seen like the prettiest by another male, and no straight man looks at Simon Lewis the way he does). FOR YEARS I’VE SEEN CLEAR STRAIGHT CHARACTERS BEING SHIPPED JUST BECAUSE OF THE CHEMISTRY OF THEIR ACTORS, AND THERE WAS NO WAY OF JUSTIFYING IT SO PEOPLE KEPT CREATING AND MAKING UP HEADCANONS, BUT JALEC HAS ALL THE CHANCES TO HAVE EVER HAPPENED IF ONLY CC WASN’T SO ANTI-LGBTA (”but she has gay ships and ...”Yes, she does, and she had them out of presence the moment they got together, we never saw Magnus and Alec, it was all secret escapes, and when they kissed publically she had them leaving on vacation so to have them out, and on the new books i’m seeing the exact same thing except maybe with a bit more fanservice so showing them more not to mention all those rumors that say she’s planning on killing Alec).
And im sorry for that last paragraph, it looks messy, but I can’t avoid my passive-aggressiveness towards CC. Even if I am indifferent towards her, I’ll never forget the abusive elements nor the fact that she chose to NOT explore same sex parabatai but is doing it with a straight one.
AGAIN: If you don’t ship Jalec is fine. If you don’t ship Malec is fine (weird, but fine). what isn’t fine is telling people to not ship things that are respectful in the way they ship it. Yes, again, some aren’t. Some Malec shippers are really disrespectful towards any other shipper (such as Clace shippers when it doesn’t affect Malec). Some Jalec shippers are really disrespectful towards Malec ones. But not all.
Shipwars begin with you take the voice of those that want to fight. Most shippers don’t want shipwars. Most shippers want respect and peace and most shippers don’t have a ship, they have an ARMADA. I have one. I ship Malec, I ship Jalec, I ship Clace, I basically ship everything on that show romantically (specifically talking about the show now) but Alec and Clary and Izzy and Jace (and well, a few more, like Luke and Clary or Magnus and Clary, I can’t ship those for many many reasons but hey if you do *shrugs* i don’t mind).
So, really, let people ship what they want. You don’t like Jalec? Then don’t check the tag. Blacklist it, ignore it. Like everyone does. This place is filled with teenagers and adults alike, and sometimes, Adults behave more like teenagers than the teens do. So, seriously: you don’t like it, you don’t check it. That’s all.
Stop attacking. Stop insulting. Stop calling shippers sick for shipping something you don’t approve.
P.S. If you’re going to comment on how it is incest, again, seriously, check the character’s point of view and not YOURS, that i the most important aspect, check the character’s point of view. And if you still think it is incest, well, let me tell you one thing: incest isn’t as bad as it is painted, it’s just a morality topic, a topic that was brought as negative in the fight of classes as it was what high classes used to keep their money just like celibacy in church appeared only to protect the church’s patrimony and not as part of any religious call.
