There’s something horrifyingly beautiful about Tess’s final moments. In the midst of the most dire chaos, as she waits for her death to come rushing past so she can blow it sky high and give cordyceps a big fuck you one last time, one of the infected stops. It looks at her, really looks. Her own mortality is personified in this infected. It’s death that’s looking at her, and it sees her. She looks her own death in the eye, and the suspense is so high as it approaches. But then, it doesn’t bite her throat out like we all expect it to.

It kisses her. What’s more, it kisses her gently. And I think it was a brilliant choice on the writers part, because it reminded me that the infected aren’t supposed to be evil. Sure, they’re scary as hell, but really, they’re just trying to survive. They’re connected to one another, they can feel each other from miles away. They seek out and want to be close to their own kind, just like the human survivors do. And when they do find each other, they kiss hello.

And after so long apart from a loved one, someone you know and trust with every instinct in your body, wouldn’t you want to kiss them too?

And even if they still wanted to explore the Phantoms Thieves during the third semester, I feel that they fell into the"Makoto social link" problem, of having this extremely nice possibility to explore for the developing of their characters and wasting it because *vague hand gesture*. Like. We could have had Haru, Futaba and Akechi face each other during the third semester if they had added like that bonus social link for Akechi, for example. Not saying that things should have been patched up between those three, but we could have had an extremely dramatic and sort of cathartic scene that would have put a sort of end to Haru and Okomura palace arc, Futabas own arc, and Akechi as well.

And now that I am playing Persona 3 and seeing how characters hang out with one another beyond the protagonist presence and how they develop these relationships, I wish Joker could have existed beyond the Phantoms during that month exploring more his relationship with Akechi (especially after the lies and Shidos and Yaldabaoth arcs) and Akechi and Sumire because, as someone pointed out in a post, there are so many interesting parallels between these two characters and the masks they wear that could have lead to that show time between them.

And of course, Maruki. Especially after the fight to get Sumire back with them.

maybe unpopular opinion but i kinda wish the third semester spent more time on just the royal trio. I love the phantom thieves but we spent the entire game with them already, i just wanna have alone time with my mentally ill crazy boyfriend and mentally ill depressed girlfriend. is that too much to ask

I’m about to set my clothes on fire so midnight headcanon:

When Yor and Yuri were young sometimes Yor would have to head out for a midnight job and Yuri would try to follow her so in order to get him to stop she have a big poster of Donovan Desmond and would put it up by the front door so anytime he went into the living room it would stare at him and he would run back into his room.

For some ungodly reason their father told them that the Desmonds eat people and they’re skin walkers so Yor embellished that already insane story and told Yuri that now that a Desmond is prime minister they have hunters all around looking for young kids to serve up to him and his skin walker family.

This coincides with the rumor that Donovan plotted to cause the train crash that killed the prime minister but also their parents (not on purpose) so Yor told him that after their parents died Donovan and his family ate them and they’re looking for them next.

So of course now Yuri is irrationally afraid of Donovan and actually is afraid to meet. His team found out he was afraid of him and decided to replace all the photos of Yor with photos of Donovan and when he saw them he literally had a panic attack and started hyperventilating and that’s how everyone found out Yuri has a genuine phobia of Donovan

Was the young Henry VIII a very friendly and gentle person?

Assuming you mean on a personal level (since, obviously...ordering executions is not especially 'gentle'), that seems to be the general judgement. There's not actually much variation from it from 1509-20s, foreign observers extol his gentleness and generosity and piety throughout the early 1530s, their only specific criticism there is that he's enthralled with a woman of 'bad character' (shorthand for 'low birth').

'the kindest of princes' (Cranmer, 1526) ‘a man of gentle friendliness, and gentle in debate; he acts more like a companion than a king’ (Erasmus, 1529) 'affable and gracious, harmed no one' (Venetian ambassador, 1519) 'He is kind and affable, full of graciousness and courtesy, and liberal; particularly so to men of science (virtuosi) whom he is never weary of obliging.' (Venetian ambassador, 1531)

There's some interesting post-contemporary observations on this matter, too (that have to be considered more doubtful since they're more influenced by hindsight and sometimes, by partisanship); such as:

"her Majesty's father, though otherwise the most gentle and affable prince in the world, could not abide to have any man stare in his face; or to fix his eye too steadily upon him when he talked with them".

And while I won't arm-chair, body-language 'science', pop psych-analyze that one (search results yield that specific source quote to 'narcissism' discussion), since it's neuroableist particularly to suggest an inability to maintain eye contact is indicative of innate deceit/dishonesty ...it is an interesting observation, considering how long he was in the public eye.

'Otherwise' gentle and affable is what's interesting about this remark, really, because are gentleness and friendliness mutually exclusive with a certain self-consciousness? I don't think so, and I wonder if this manifested particularly once he got to the point in a public ceremony/spectacle where he became overwhelmed by the attention and scrutiny, it is not typically how he's thought of but it's such a specific observation connected (but 'contrasting') those specific traits you asked of, I thought it was worth mentioning.

Mantel touched on this,

And I also thought Mantel touched on this (although I can't find it in my highlights atm, so maybe I'm misremembering); I distinctly remember this scene...where somebody is recalling, as Duke of York, Henry was placed on a pony or horse when he's only two or three years old, and this is really his first public appearance, and he's reported to have acquitted himself well, to have been charming and gracious and graceful, even then...but even then, there was always this dark spectre. The timing of his ennoblement as Duke of York was chosen with purpose, it was in the shadow of a pretender. Was there a sense of unease, even then, that he couldn't articulate until later: that behind every smile, could be a knife?

'[Henry VII]'s children grew up in a world of threats, intrigue, and paranoia', '[Prince Henry]'s earliest years were as emotionally insecure as his father's reign was politically uncertain', '"he is so subjugated that he does not speak a word except in response to what the king asks him"'; again, the latter does not match the gregarious (perhaps even, more self-fashioned than natural) personality he's recorded as having as an adult.

The possibility that he oscillated between two opposite settings, and adapted accordingly, back to back (relative isolation and circumspection, to complete immersion in public celebration and celebrity and grandiose openness/friendliness); could account for the contradiction of an "affable" young man that gradually became uncomfortable with the level of scrutiny to which he was held, and maybe even modulated his habit and outward persona to fit what was expected of a king.

As funny as it is and counterproductive as it seems to have chunks of the dash be just "This post contains filtered content: #kill yourself" I've found that, after getting used to the warning, it actually is really helpful to see the phrase in a neutral sort of "clinical" light first instead of just getting surprised in the middle of the text. It seemed like no difference back when I started using the filter because I was tired of constantly reading that phrase over and over at a time when my mind was heavily echoing the sentiment - but now I can confidently say there's a tangible difference between the emotional impact of "a string of code detected these letters in this order and is signaling it to you as requested" and "a real, flesh-and-bone human wrote these words out with meaning and intention and is showing them to you".

And I mean, my mental health is doing better in general now than in the past couple years, that's true, but I would still credit the warning and recommend it if being surprised by "kill yourself" in a post upsets you too.

wrt: designated victim post, still working on why Guy is the one who greets Andreas at the abbey. He's not even rude until the second encounter later at the parish church. He's at Piero's grave talking to Andreas regardless. Is this to keep him fresh in your head as you look for suspects? Andreas' friends/connections in town are Claude, Otto, and the Gertners, though you can get close to some others. Within the abbey he was mostly close to Piero, but you can imagine literally anyone else and especially Aedoc being the most inclined to visit that grave and pay respects. Nope. It's Guy there. Who Andreas is most likely to help murder by the end of the act.

why do you hate the panthers

aside from the fact that they only recently took the leafs out of the playoffs, i just think they play a shitty brand of hockey, lol. instigating and trying to borderline injure people sometimes isn't really... something i enjoy watching. i get that every team has their rats, but it just feels like teams like florida are able to take advantage of being shitty out there bc the reffing in this league lacks consistency and i don't like watching it over and over again.
