like yeah the main story shafted her. we know it sucks she does nothing. thats only on en though T-T its a mistranslation in the second episode that leaves out how an had almost given up but kohane's determination, despite her social anxiety, lead her to want to continue and it turns the entire thing on its head. thats why an protected her from akitos criticism so much.

like shes not the driving force until later in the events, where she properly comes into her own under taiga. but have you read those events? at the very least read awakening beat and kick it up a notch. hell, it's pretty explicit in burn my soul (an akito event) that kohane is the one calling the shots by this point. she might not be the in-universe face of the group but she is the unit leader for a reason.

some of the best vbs fanfic i have ever read has kohane being a leader, a life raft of mental stability almost, for her friends. let them call kohane when they dont know what to do.

when minori breaks she goes to kohane. that should fucking mean something.

Vbs lost faith after the whole Taiga incident, and while they stayed friend through highschool, they did not try to surpass RW.

I feel like An and Kohane got together during highschool and stayed together, but Toya and Akito didn't, they'd just bury their own feelings.

After highschool Akito probably travelled around the world I think. In any case, he lost touch with Toya (and anhane), and when he got back he thought he couldn't (shouldn't) try to get in contact with Toya again.

Akito works at a bakery in this au. Idk it made sense to me.

Toya is a music teacher (to still keep some stuff from my dream). His reasoning is that he wants to teach kid classic music without going through the trauma he's been through, and maybe can help some kids who have been struggling like him. It's kinda healing for him as well.

Akito and Toya are just as much of idiots in this au as in canon, where they get super close again but no one dares to confess for a long time.

There is this teenage girl that keeps showing up at Akito's bakery. She wants to pursue music but her family discourages her, and when she learns Akito used to sing she's begging him to coach her. Akito has a soft spot for her even if he doesn't say it outloud.

I don't have a name for her yet, but she 100% supports Akito getting with Toya and constantly pesters him about it (she's seen his ugly breakup with his ex so she wants him to be happy, and she's also heard the numerous ramble Akito did about Toya).

Akito refuses the dad allegations, but he will (one day) accept the uncle allegations.

I'm unsure how Akito and Toya get together in this au. I kinda want it to be a "spur of the moment thing", maybe they're singing together again, maybe they're dancing, or being domestic and Akito is helping Toya cook, and one of them just goes "can I kiss you?"... you know???? smt gay

I sometimes feel as if the majority of the project sekai fandom haven't actually read the stories of the game and have instead made a lot of stuff up. It is more obvious with Leo/need and More More Jump who are just considered boring and plain (a rant for another day) but then there is Nightcord looked at by face value with them just being 'the depressed group' and Wonderlands x Showtime being either ignored to the point where Emu and Nene's characters are hardly looked at and Tsukasa and Rui are mischaracterised to hell and back.

I could probably say a lot on any of these things, but for now I'll just go on about what has been on my mind for a while. Vivid Bad Squad are often reduced to a gay couple vs a lesbian couple. There is so much more to all of their characters and their dynamics which get overshadowed in favour of making An a mean lesbian who constantly bullies Akito.

Like, just reading one of the group's events would make it obvious how much they all care for each other. Even in the main story, Kohane is worried for Akito and Toya when she still thinks they're responsible for ruining their first performance. An and Akito are shown to worry and care for each other, and any teasing that happens is very light and in a playful manner. Toya lets himself feel comfortable with the entire group and not just Akito, and the most recent event on the en server is proof of that. In Kohane's first side story in her 2 star card for the event Toya and An are against eachother in a card game and at the end An talks about how next time Toya will lose and Toya challenges her on it.

Yes, anhane and akitoya are both ships with a lot of in-game content to support them. They're two of my favourite ships! But the group as a whole have so much more going for them, and it's frustrating to see that get ignored.

There is definitely someone who can explain this better, but Vivid Bad Squad are friends who care for each other and I wish that, along with the actual characters in general, was focused on more instead of just shipping!

Yes! You get it! I also don’t like how anhane gets shafted in some aspects? Like akitoya is great, I love them, but why do they get the “omg so canon” talk and all the analysis while anhane is left to the side? I think with the Awake Now event and the lyrics to some of the newer songs there’s a lot to analyze about anhane! I think An’s growing sense of inferiority and want to stay by Kohane’s side while Kohane slowly grows as a musician and wants to get better is something really cool and something that the two of them could have a discussion about! But it’s not really discussed while they’re sitting in the background of fics.

Also yeah! I remember when I first got into the project Sekai fandom I saw a bunch of memes about An bullying Akito and got confused when I got further into VBS story and found that An gives Akito friendly teasing, and has a friendly rivalry that she likes to keep up! They’re buddies! In the Awake Now event, he gives her advice and she sincerely takes it to heart and because she sees him as an equal!

I think that if you want to show Akito getting bullied, Ena is right there, and I think Akito and Ena have a fascinating relationship. Akito is shown to stand up for Ena before their father, but he has trouble dealing with her sometimes and it’s a sibling relationship that used to be stronger but fell apart with time probably due to their environment and it’s really interesting!

I also think Kohane gets reduced a lot to “shy girl” by the fandom when she’s a cool character! She’s slowly surpassing An who’s grown up with Rad Weekend which showcases that she has tons of talent! She loves everyone so much, without a mean bone in her body! Even despite her shy demeanor she handles Akitos rough exterior no problem! Although I think An would be a better protagonist for VBS Kohane is a great character!

like ofc a ship doesn’t have to have a canon basis to be a fun ship but the fact that it’s the most popular proseka ship always made me think “oh maybe there’s something there that i’m missing?” but your post made me realise that maybe there just isn’t that much there

I got worried shortly after that post so I'm just going to expand on it here.

I believe that there is evidence for every popular ship in the sekai fandom, I just don't fully understand how RuiKasa ended up as most popular. If it was going to be a m/m ship I would have assumed it would be AkiToya since. Y'know.

There are events (that I admittedly haven't read yet) that imply RuiKasa because that's just how the game tends to be. However those events are Wonder Halloween, which is literally WxS's first event, and Pandemonium, which I haven't found a translation for and don't really plan on reading anytime soon (priorities are in catching up on key events whenever school calms down for me).

Compared that to most of the other more popular ships in game and it's clear they don't have as much development. MizuEna had the picnic event, footprints and ribbon for example. Or AnHane or AkiToya who get a lot of focus. This doesn't take away from the fact that Rui and Tsukasa are close, because that's just what being in the same unit suggests.

Part of the reason I feel neutral on the majority of WxS ships is because I just don't see their dynamic as romantic. I feel like their story works perfectly in depicting them as friends but struggle to see any of them actually getting together. Unlike most other units where I can reasonably see A and B dating in some post-game future.

So yeah, I don't fucking understand RuiKasa, but I respect the people that do and love them enough to make content for them. It's just that it isn't for me.

i have not

tw for major character death and postapocalypse/dystopian genre typical violence/themes and such

Shout out to my friend elio @/chibashiru who wrote a lot of this with me on discord back in february

as mentioned. sort of a post-apocalypse/dystopian genre. combines An and Kohane's kiuan cards with Akito and Toya's CGO cards.

also this is Anhane centric but there is akitoya and gen VBS. peace and love.

the idea behind this was what if i made Kohane a total bitch and didn't change An and then I ruined my own life

Also they're aged up a bit bc of a timeskip so they're like. early 20s here? ish.

So dystopian sorta cyberpunk setting based on akty CGO cards. ruled by a genre typical oppressive power. An's family heads a rebel cell that operates in the slums of the city.

Akito is the first to join when he's a young teenager. He starts hanging around because he thinks the rebels are cool but then decides to work with them permanently after an incident that is the equivalent of the fawo flashback. he gets taken in by Ken and sees him as a sort of father figure.

Toya was next. He was an aristocrat and has essentially the same backstory as canon but there's a fucked up class system. He runs away from home and meets Akito. They get to know each other over time and eventually An's family takes in Toya too.

The last one to join is Kohane. She lost her family (rip mr and mrs azusawa) and accidentally ends up in the middle of a rebel raid. An takes a liking to her immediately (there's no aibous here but aibouisms live on in spirit), and Kohane thinks An is pretty cool and is inspired by her. An convinces her family to take Kohane in and boom. Done. She's still a bit naive to the realities of this society and this is important.

Kohane's development carries on the same as in canon as does everyone else's but with more fucked up dystopian shit going on. The lutf equivalent is what causes the downwards spiral.

Nagi died be it of illness or she was killed, i haven't decided yet. As is in canon this is kept quiet, and VBS is told that she's been off operating a second rebel cell. While An/Akito/Toya are all obviously affected by the news that No the situation is Not actually getting much better, they at least resolve to fight on in Nagi's honour. Kohane does too, but at this point in time she's still undergoing her confidence arc and what happens when you make Kohane have her canon arc in an unforgiving dystopian society where she's lost her family and the people she was told were going to fix the system? Jaded bitch Kohane.

Fast forward a few years, things are getting a bit better but are far from the rebels having the upper hand. Ken dies this time.

An is trying to stay hopeful and is pretty much permanently locked in the denial stage of grief, Kohane hits the ground running with her negative character arc, Akito is going through it and Toya's having to deal with all three of them and his own trauma.

Break from the angst for one second. The side characters are also here I haven't quite worked out Tatsuya and Kotaro yet but Souma is the guy in the chair like Oracle (he was still involved in an accident and has a wheelchair), and he acts as mainly Toya's mentor. Arata is here too and mainly tries to keep VBS emotionally stable enough to make rational decisions with the 3 years maturity he has on them.

Also An and Kohane are in love and had something going on but then Kohane negative character arc happened. Akito and Toya are also in love but have a more stable relationship that i'm trying to work out the details of still.

Angst again. An takes over as the leader after her dad dies, with Akito 2nd in command. Fast forward a few years. Everyone is overworked but they've gained a strong advantage. However one day they get cornered and An and Kohane get captured (I imagine just Kohane got caught with the intent of fighting off the enemy but An ran back because her issues with Kohane in canon are way worse here

They get sent to some prison in the wasteland. Hence kiuan cards. Kohane is fully gone by now and pulls an every man for himself move and breaks out without An.

She gets her sheep mecha here. If you want to be edgy she killed someone for it. She kinda just. Chills in the wasteland. She lost faith a while back and kinda rules out here so she's fine sticking to herself.

Meanwhile Akito is overworking himself trying to find An and Kohane and he's also now the rebel leader and everything is going to shit since they were discovered and lost a lot of the advantage

An eventually breaks out of prison and goes to find Kohane. Kohane kinda has a reputation and is feared by a lot of the other people who lurk around the wasteland but An "neverending denial stage of grief & attachment issues" is determined to find her because she still loves her despite everything

An finds Kohane, Kohane tells her to give it up. That means whatever you want to interpret it as :)

An keeps trying to win her back and Kohane keeps telling her to not come back. ��You’re soft. You know how the world works and you know what to expect. Don’t get yourself attached to fragile ideas of a reality that could never exist.” something like that. They end up in a big fight that results in Kohane killing An.

An is. Actually okay with this since she became kinda self sacrificing after losing most of her family and is just sorry that she couldn't stop what happened to Kohane.

Kohane still loves An.

Akito and Toya tracked down An but too late. They arrive and find An dead at the hands of Kohane.

Akito gets pissed because of the situations his care for others channels into "touch my loved ones and die" and he also has a lot of Feelings over the fact that like in canon he was the one who initially told Kohane to toughen up but he didn't mean for this yknow?

Also at elio's suggestion Kohane's words to Akito after this is just "you were right". Everyone say thank you elio.

Toya is also fucking torn up because he always had faith in Kohane since he saw himself in her. Also he has to stop Akito from getting into a fight with Kohane.

i go to Kamiyama Highschool and i am in the homeroom 1-D (ena is is the same homeroom letter, but she’s a second year)

now… tragic backstory /hj

same with Toya, i was forced to play the piano and violin by our father, not allowed to do anything else. But unlike Toya who went to street music to get away from his father, I met some friends in middle school who i got to rebel with. But, these friends soon turned out to be toxic, and soon i found myself to feel suffocated in that group, them knowing my secret made me obliged to stay in that group. i unexpectedly met Honami during this time, becoming close friends with her. This was also the time Honami distanced herself from her own friends and was suffocating in her own friend problems. i learned about astronomy and how to play the drums from her. i also really like apple pies cuz it reminds me of her :)

i was very distant with my brother, sometimes going days without seeing him. my happy personality soon turned cold in middle school, and i was always known as the kid to not mess around with. akito and an knew of me, but i never made any efforts to talk to them. that changed after Toya came home surprisingly early one day (fight with Akito). after i asked him what happened he told me that he quit playing street music because he thought it was just “child’s play” and it didn’t have any meaning to him other than trying to avoid classical music. kind of jealous of him and angry with his reasoning, i guess i snapped? i kind of yelled at him (he literally just got back from a fight 😭😭😭) that he had something to motivate him yet he was throwing his passion away because of some doubts. it was a rocky start, but this argument sooner or later got us closer again, being closer than even in years; being the others best friend. Also, he, Honami, Tsukasa and Saki know about my secret at this moment.

when we did get closer, i was soon introduced to Vivid Bad Squad properly. this was the first time i was introduced to Kohane, and An and Akito’s first time seeing me in a while. i think it was seeing them practice a lot and be so determined to surpass RAD WEEKEND that had me so inclined to join. this is where the story strays from canon, but between An’s Singing in Sync and Toya’s Nocturne Interlude story, if there were “focus events”, my event / focus story would be here, joining VBS officially. VBS would find Ready Steady to become “Untitled” again, and it would stay that way until i would click Untitled on my phone and be transported to Street Sekai.

Also, my lines are still evenly spread in songs, either sharing lines with anyone that fits, or sharing with any of the Virtual Singers in the song.

I have some solo covers, like ray (sorry Leo/need im taking ray), but I also do duet covers with anyone in the group. I once tried to sing Ifuudoudou with Akito and Toya and Pa III. SENSATION with An and Kohane but i couldn’t take myself seriously and just tried not to fall on the floor dying. I also like playing the drums with any song that deems fit.

This is just me being friend deprived but instead of thinking of them as just two pairs plus me, VBS is more of a whole friend group (you could even call it a found family). Although i dont mind Anhane and Akitoya as a ship, I love the idea of just being really close platonically and i love found family so yea.

Some events like Mirai are shared focus events, which means me and Toya both have that “event”.

One of my really important “events” is named “Old Friends, New Secrets” where i accidentally run into my old friend group, soon turning really anxious to the point of not coming to practices. but the one practice where i finally did come for a event the following week, i run into them again. An and Akito recognized them from previous years, and Toya knew them as my old friends, but he knew something was wrong when he turned to see me trembling hard. as i was trying to say goodbye and leave, they became really hostile and saying rude remarks. At this point An and Akito started getting frustrated and knew something was up when i was trying to tone down their behavior. my old “best friend”, in front of the group, said my secret out loud, and in a state of horror and rage, I punched her. by the time both groups pull us away from breaking each other’s noses, and when Akito and An tried arguing with them, I just ran like a wimp 💀💀. For a few days I didn’t go to practices, going so far as to try to distance myself again from Toya, but I do go into Sekai to calm myself down a little bit. I do visit Leo/need during this time (since the whole group is back and I haven’t visited Saki and Honami in a while), and hang out with them for a little while before they all return home. Before I could leave, Honami and Saki ask to talk to me. They ask what happened, and sooner or later I tell them what happened. We discuss some stuff for a little while, before they basically tell me that “true friends aren’t going to leave you for this. talk to them, you’ll be ok.” with advice in my head, i thank them for everything before heading to sekai for a while, where i find myself standing before VBS themselves.

My 4 star from this event would be a group hug of everyone in Sekai (the abandonment issues is SPEAKING) named “Not Alone Anymore.” and the other 4 stars would be Toya looking worried which is named “Twin Telepathy” and An probably trying to argue with the other group, which would be named “Never Leaving a Friend Alone”. The 3 star would be Akito looking at the drums which i would sometimes play during practices, named “The Echo of the Drums Once Played”, and the 2 star would be Kohane in a event costume, looking to the side, named “This Shared Feeling of Loneliness”. This event would probably have the themes of an empty city, with my trained card being me underneath the only working light in what looks like an abandoned city. I haven’t decided how the others looks like, but yea :)

Going from this cold, quiet person to still being quiet but letting myself be more free with friends, I am similar in some circumstances to Toya. We both are dense af, both afraid of heights, and both have good grades (although im the one who procrastinates and still gets good grades, being in the middle compared to An/Akito being horrible at studying, and Toya/Kohane being good at studying). Unlike Toya who has bad memories connected to classical music, I still do have bad memories but I have a very strong nostalgia when listening to it, longing to play it one more time without father knowing.

Being with VBS, if we’re not practicing, sometimes we play board games and sometimes we’ll sing each other’s duets for fun (Toya and I did a duet for Utsuro wo Aogu) and we almost died laughing when trying the high notes An and Kohane would take.

I am very close to VBS, Honami, Saki and Tsukasa, and am friends with rest of Leo/need, Mizuki, Rui, and Nene. I am acquainted with Ena, Emu, Haruka, and Shizuku.

My favorite drink is coffee, my favorite food is pasta with spinach, and my least favorite food is anything chocolate flavored (besides actual chocolate). I don’t like heights and ants.

Sometimes if Leo/need has a performance, I’ll see it with Tsukasa and Shizuku, and if WxS has a performance I’ll see it with Kohane and Saki.

uhhh long story short trans headcanons are cool especially when they may contradict canon identity. it is never too late to find out about those things and characters only finding themselves after a story is a great thing to look at. anyway rant.

idk I think that trying to say that people headcanoning Akito/Toya/Tsukasa/Rui to be transfem are misogynistic by neglecting the many canonically female characters in game is a fucking stupid claim that reeks of transphobia and transmisogyny in particular. first off tell me why you think someone writing about a character, who in a game presents as male, deciding that a story where they consider identifying differently could be interesting is misogynistic. second off where are all of these people having those headcanons because I know like. 2 people off the top of my head and one of them is me. there are people who hc Shiho/Haruka/Mafuyu/whoever else to be a trans boy which were not brought up once here (I have seen differing opinions on Mafuyu specifically and I am certain there is a claim that these hcs are also bad but the post in question referred to the others). (and I love these hcs as well btw).

fandom misogyny is definitely a thing that should be spoken of, ESPECIALLY in Sekai. but the people making stories or art of these characters actually exploring identifying as another gender to the one they may present as in canon? that is not an issue here. it was never a fucking issue and I'm so glad there was at least one seperate post willing to call out how bullshit it was.

the misogyny within sekai fandom issue has existed for years and many have made great posts about it. it is very much true that of a cast with a majorly female cast, the 4 boys getting the spotlight is an issue. however trans headcanons had never been a part of that discussion because, putting it lightly, they probably never should have been. do you really think the people that will sideline AnHane for AkiToya care about headcanoning either of the latter as girls? no, because the reason this issue exists is because the people writing AkiToya fic about them just kissing again #5000 don't fucking care for the women they are reducing to one note characters for it to work.

it becomes obvious when these things no longer become "I think exploring this characters relationship to gender is very interesting and I would like to draw/write about it" and switch to "I think women can not be interesting so I will only consider liking a character if they are a man". there are literally the claims of "L/N would be more interesting as a boy band" (and the similar ones for MMJ) which is very clearly just saying they would be better characters if they were presented as guys in game and an excuse to not think about the rest of the cast.

there's something I've been thinking for a while now but it relates to something from months ago and it would just be bringing it back up maybe and it's late so I'd feel stupid but rifkrof.
