y'know i intended to draw a bunch of refs for some of my characters that i haven't posted a ton of art of for artfight this year but i think i'm literally just gonna make crunch and wesker's refs, re-do reverie's ref (it's been bugging me since last year), format and upload horatio's preexisting ref, and update some character descriptions. that might just be all i have the energy for regarding artfight prep, at least if i wanna have some energy going into artfight too

How do you recreate the Hetalia artstyle so well

ok so.. .uhhhhhhhhhh honestly i dont even know how. which is why i am obviously qualified to make YOU, yes you, the person reading this, a tutorial

i psoted an incomplete tutorial on the hetalia art style some few months back and when i look back at it now, some things are just straight up wrong or need clarification (also its the same post where i accidentally sent multiple death threats to a random sex worker thinking they were just a porn bot oopsies) so if you guys still remember that, forget about it! all of it!!! this is a brand new, more accurate guide on how to draw himas style!

(quick warning though im just a weeb not a professional teacher by any means so dont take this as gospel and dont get mad if i got something wrong or something is confusing)

ok lets start off with the

HEADS

this is just the way i start drawing my heads personally. if i had to describe it, its basically a simplified stylized version of the loomis head method. proko has a good video on it! just give that a quick watch then take a look at my step by step guide

but besides this, there are some important things about the head that you should remember

the shape of the head is generally rectangular

compared to more typical ikemen styles, hetalia characters have a more rectangular head. HOWEVER their chins taper off to a very triangular shape. rarely do the chins flatten out like the guy on the left.

2. shorter face = younger/more feminine appearance

well... self explanatory. you can see in the diagram how changing the length of the face gives a character a more feminine/childish look.

if you feel that something looks kind of off, feel free to change it, but if it looks okay then lets move onto facial features!!!

NOSES:

ok so this might seem a little weird but i like drawing the nose first. its right in the middle of the face and is generally the easiest to get right. it also kind of acts as a divider between the eyes, especially useful when you're drawing in a 3/4 angle

which kind of look something like that i guess.....

or that if you want something less extreme

anyways while hetalia noses are kind of inconsistent they generally have the shape of these three lines. feminine/childlike characters have a smaller and subtler nose though

noses also never face fully straight ahead, so when drawing a front view, the nose slightly faces right or left (tbh himas characters rarely face the camera head on, so id refrain from drawing frontal views altogether but thats just me)

anyways lets move on to my second favorite part of the hetalia art style

EYES:

the eyes are the most important part of himas style. if all else fails, you can always recognize the style by the eyes. luckily for you, the eyes really arent complicated compared to other anime styles :D here is how i do it:

you have probably noticed this but the pupils hima draws now has a more squiggly teary-eyed look compared to the pupils he drew then...

i subcounciously do a mixture of the two because i got used to drawing the old type, but if you wanna draw the new type of pupils just take note of their squigly shape and that they have one dominant highlight in the upper-middle area. uhhh.. or if youre like me just draw the old eyes as if you have parkinson's

anyways heres a step by step guide

and some fun eye variations!!! you can try using variants if youd like to give an oc a more unique look (you can also try making your own variants too but be careful of straying too far from the style)

so now about the eyebrow and the eyelid.... uhhh the eyelid doesnt really have a consistent length so just draw it however. feminine and childlike characters have thinner eyebrows but even then eyebrows should never be drawn as just a single line

we are close to finishing the face!!! now we can move onto

MOUTHS:

if you know how to draw a typical anime mouth, then hima mouths is easy peasy!

for closed mouths just draw a curved line with two dark blots for the corners of the mouth

i think that giving them a shaky look makes them look more expressive

open mouths are just random blobs, dont close off the bottom though, and theys till have those dark blots at the corner of the mouth

now then i'll move onto the

EARS + CHEEKS:

i decided to combine these two since these are probably the easiest parts of the face

hima's ears are pretty round and don't really vary in shape. inside the ears though....

it isnt very consistent, so don't think too hard about "getting them right". above are some ear variations i drew from one of the latest chapters of the manga

the cheeks are just a bunch of lines that can appear fully, or only on one cheek, or don't appear at all. i think it depends on level of detail, angle, or the character's emotion

these lines do not appear on rendered pieces

also if a character feels especially displeased they will gain heavy eyebags

so yay! we're pretty much done with the face!! look forward next time to where i cover hair, the body, and other stuff idk... i'll link the other parts to each other when i complete them

I recently watched Jennifer’s Body and my sister wanted me to draw Allison as Jennifer (Allison’s Body AU for the wip?👀)

I saw that ppl were making aftg ocs so I wanted to try sharing some of my own (y’all know I’m crazy about making ocs) I was gonna draw one or two from each of the teams (original teams and canon teams) but I only got so far

First guy is Achillesz, captain of the Fennecs (originally known as wild dogs) Eris, striker for the Ravens 2023 (I was thinking of changing her to goalie) and Marlynn, dealer for the Hyenas

I was also going to draw one of my Foxes but again, art block is killing me

Hazbin designs for the Twinyards (not an AU!)

I did it for fun, not an AU yet. All I’ll share about it is that Andrew died in that car crash with Tilda and Aaron over dosed afterward

Here are some things my sister decided for the AU

- Milo is Neil’s son from a past relationship

- Neil and Andrew have multiple kids (but not as many as the Bridgertons actually do)

- Andrew died in an accident (no bee because I convinced her not to)

- Jean plays the role of Lady Danbury

- Kevin is Queen Charlotte lmao

- Milo is the diamond of the Exy season

Does Jerry get softer over time? She’s stand offish but we get those moments of softness, when she settles down with her darling and they both trust each other will she be soft or still only fleeting moments?

She doesn't get softer in theory, but you learn how to take her behavior and analyze it. Her cockiness is a part of her personality. it's not disappearing anytime soon. However, if you match her energy she will be much more comfortable. You might even be on the same level with her instead of being her property.

Example:

"I ought to give that son of a bitch a real pounding", Jerry mutters with her arms crossed over her chest.

"You should wipe the floor with his hair", you reply. "Use it like a real good mop."

She scoffs out a laugh. "I should, shouldn't I?"

"If you don't, I will."

You're about to leave, but she grabs your shoulder, forcing you back.

"Not a fucking chance, Y/N", she says. "He would grab your hair and swing you over his head like a damn propeller. I'm not letting him hurt you, you're too important to me. You can help me, but you're not doing anything by yourself, do you understand that?"

"In that case he'll hurt you too."

"I'll be fine." She taps your nods at the man. "If you take his glass, I'll put in the sleeping pills. Let's go, baby. I'm right behind you."

I saw that the answer to this is 'yes,' but I figured this would be a good excuse for you to talk about what bits carried over and which parts you shed to put 'em into FFXIV better and such!

I start levitating ominously. You do not know what you have started (thank you though, I love talking about my characters!)

As you said, yes, all my characters have started off elsewhere before FFXIV, mostly just lil guys I make up in my head! I'll take this chance to go into a little more depth though, since I can source some development art for some of them!

Saeed is a good example, since he goes back to 2016! I don't have any art I'm willing to share for this initial version of him cause it's so old and so basic, but he was made for a duel roleplay and art group back on deviantART, back when you had to draw out and write full applications for roleplay groups and contribute both roleplays and art to get little rewards and be involved in the plot!

Fast forward to 2020, and I decided to revamp him and use him for another roleplay group (same vibe as above, but based on Discord but hosting art and writing via dA)

These were actually some of the concept sketches I made to get a feeling of him! And yes, that IS an Emet-Selch quote I used for some dialogue, I'd literally just finished SHB I think when I made him. As you can tell, he had COMPLETELY different vibes to what he has now. More of a bastard, not someone that people could get along with, a lot more selfish.

Then I started playing FFXIV, and through that I met my D&D group who asked for me to join their group and current campaign in 2021. When thinking of who to make, I thought "Huh, party doesn't have a rogue or someone who can deception their way through things... I know a character I could use who does that-"

Above is some concepting sketches and other stuff from when I was first making him. Some of his old personality remained, but in the end it ended up being developed as he was like that due to some trauma, and eventually grew out of it and ended up being party dad with some wonderfully warm and close bonds with the party!

2023, I still adore this finale painting I made for the whole party upon campaign ending <3

Just as the campaign was wrapping up was when I added Saeed to FFXIV as an alt but now he's become my main! Honestly still shocked at how pretty damn close I managed to get him considering FFXIV's chargen limitations!

It's kinda what I do though, I get attatched and still wanna write and roleplay a character actively with others. His plot honestly transferred over super well, keeping the plot as a rogue rising to a position he never intially expected, fighting against a corrupt empire (though in D&D it was his own empire home that was being corrupted internally).

I also happen to play him in other games, like I have him in GW2 (no plot, no pics to share cause that's just when I take the nostalgic urge to play Baby's First MMO again) and he's also my Drifter in Warframe!

I could go on endlessly about all my other characters, especially since Saeed isn't my oldest in terms of creation, but this is already quite long, and they follow a smiliar pattern!

Summer Time Terror Twins 🌞

Today was a Macaulay day, it looks like. 😂 We had a sunny weekend over here, after a few days of rain, which kinda inspired me to draw my beloved twins with this vibe in mind: casually enjoying a nice Summer's day.

First, we have Blair, who is hanging out with some of her friends from Edinburgh (who are off-screen for the time being, because I couldn't be bothered to draw multiple people this time 🤣). They're about to hit a pub and have lunch and a few drinks, while also catching up with each other's latest life updates. ✨

Next we have Donnie, who’s in the middle of enjoying his day off. He is on his way home after doing the groceries, when he receives a message from Aggie, the lass he's having a little “friends with benefits” thing with (please ignore how ugly that chat box is, btw, I promise I’ll make it prettier in the finished version 🤣). She invites him to come over to her place, and Donnie is just about to accept her invitation. Looks like a fun evening is on the horizon. 👀

Neither of these are finished yet, but until I get to do that, I figured I could post them in their current state. I really wanna get more comfortable with posting my sketches. And I kinda like them, so... I dunno. 😅

It's been a hot minute since I last drew Loopy.

I can't believe it's already been a year since I created and started developing her; feels like that was only a couple of months ago at most. I may not be drawing her as much as I was at the height of my Toontown frenzy, but she's still one of my favorite OCs of mine and I'll always love her dearly.

Speaking of development, I finally finished making Loopy's Toyhouse page yesterday! I believe I've linked to it before on this blog, but I hid it for a very long time afterwards because I wasn't satisfied with how it was written (It was incomplete anyways; the history section was missing), and then I ended up getting writer's block multiple times while trying to rewrite it. Backgrounds are always a challenge for me, full illustrations are in general (sighs in wanting to be a portrait artist then changing my mind & deciding I wanna be an illustrator smh) especially when there's multiple characters in one and there's 5 in this. The whole process of thinking about every aspect - lighting, color palette, poses, dynamics, perspective jmfidi is SO MUCH. But I really wanted to do this because I wanted a full family illustration of Immy and Cullen w/ their bbs. I don't think it's perfect but me finishing it and actually DOING it helps in going forward.

I've never cared about giving OCs babies until I romanced Cullen w Immy and now it's all I can think about ;-; The two of them as mamae and papae just make me jmfidijf and baby Ilao is my absolute beloved even tho she's a menace <3 (Papae Cullen does things to my heart ;-;)

Sinag 2.0

I made Sinag when I was 22, and since I'm 28 now, I've changed quite a bit since then. I've revamped her recently because I've been feeling disconnected with her and I think this helped me find her voice again. So ofc, I had to draw a new proper art piece of her. I was so worried this was going to come out awful because Dragon Age armor in general IS A DOOZY to draw lmao. I'm pleasantly surprised this came out decently, Hawke's armor made me dizzy looking at it lol.

I did a screencap redraw of Lizzie and Darcy as Amihan and Nate, so I decided why not do it with Cullen and Immy - cause I've always seen them as Jane and Bingley. It turned into a full study that took me three weeks (cryin) but I was really happy with how the environments turned out. I really SHOULD DO one again. 1 - i practiced and fully finished a piece DAILY for at least 3 years, i used TONS of reference and was inspired by plenty of diffrent artists. And i also was very motivated on making "feezable" bodytypes rather than just realistic human ones! taking the furry concept of character design to its maximum capacity. I would say another thing that made me good is my constant desire to outdo myself and learn new styles of coloring and shading and lining and anatomy. My advice for getting better is trying, trying, trying! keeping an open mind and love for art, trying as much as you can passionately everyday. and keep in mind that you will suck at something before you're good at that something. 2 - depends on whats best for you tbh. some people like to be smothered, others embraced gently. 3 - i like making original stuff a LOT. i never wanted to just follow trends, but i realised i needed to have SOME appeal to my art, so on the nsfw i decided to make booby ocs. it kinda spanned out into it being its own semi organized thing on its own, rly i still express myself even on the facet of huge breasts. Also i never liked to half ass anything. so rather than making semi large breasts like the classic anime girl, i decided to go all the fuckin way. if the concept and appeal of these characters is that they have big boobs, i am going all the fucking way. breats bigger than head. (which ironicaly lowers mass appeal lmao. very few people are gonna wanna reblog huge tits.) on the sfw character front, (and generaly rly even booby) ive always been fond of characters that were combinations of multiple tropes and concepts at once, and still worked, easiest example is Agatha, shes a witch, a mom, goth, a killer, and sexy af; it was so fun creating her by combining a whooole buncha concepts and tropes n ideas; forming their own original thing! A lot of my sfw characters can be seen as those combinations too; one of my favorite side-passtimes is making a list of all characters that remind me of my own that i see out there. its very messy, and yet, very fun to do.

I honestly recomend anyone that has ocs, even if they dont share them and their details with the public (like i sure fuckin dont lol) to try doing stuff like this. its rly funny to have those "aha!" moments when you realise a character you love has stuff in common with a character you made. like YES jim hawkins DOES have a lot of daddy issues and is an angsty teen! add him to the list. lmao. thanks for the ask!

I keep seeing everyone making refs for their MHA characters in that specific format and I'm like. Auuuuuuuugh I wanna do it. But also I suck at full bodies let alone drawing them multiple times. And I have so many OCS now because I used a doll maker during my surgery induced art block era.

Edit and also there's my ten billion wips I have to finish at some point lmao. I discovered even more wips I forgot about. Help, girl.

Awww thank you!!! I’ve been busy recently, but I have multiple stories in the works :D

The origins of enjar is getting so close to being finished and then I’ll go through and revise and rewrite a couple little things, then I’ll get started on the johaan arc and the Matt and Charlotte pregnancy arc! Shenanigans are gonna ensue!! But the story I’m gonna post soon is gonna change enjars life forever and you’ll get to see another side of him >:)

Then there’s cam and Roman who have one story in the works and another in planning, where you will find out more about both cam and Ro’s heritage and their pasts.

Cody has a big story that I’m waiting to finish OOE before I start. It’ll be a multipart story that will be fairly high stakes for our little doctor!

And finally keh-yah. His next chapter is in the planning stage and should be out in a bit. I apologise on the wait times I’ve let my wips get away from me but he is being written it’s just life has been super busy recently and his story is the longest :D

I wish I had a schedule but I don’t lmao, but I have less classes this semester at uni so I’ll probably have slightly more time for writing :D

I’ve also started drawing my ocs more so lmk if you wanna see :D

I also have a few random ocless stories I wanna get down at some point so I’ll see where they’ll fit in :)))
