Oh, certainly not! If Cooper Howard is 100% straight, then so am I...and that is not the case. I'm focusing on Prewar!Coop here, because, frankly, I think most ghouls' sexuality (especially those who have been around for hundreds and hundreds of years) would be "whatever, genitals are genitals". That said, if there was demand for elaboration on bi Ghoul, I'd be open to doing a follow-up.

I think he'd lean more "masc for masc", but overall I don't think Coop is the sort of guy who really cares enough about what someone looks like to let it stop him from getting with them if he finds them desirable for whatever reason. If you two click, if the feeling is right, he's the type to trust his instincts. Because of that, I think he, pleasantly, wouldn't play a lot of games, regardless of his new interest's gender. It all started when Lysistrata confided in Jessup about a bad friendship breakup she had and he not only reassured her that she dodged a massive bullet, but he ended up giving her some pretty good advice. When she told Coriolanus about this, he hesitantly opens up to Lucy Gray about his struggles and her compassion and good suggestions snowball (ha) into him getting his ass hauled to actual therapy. All hail his therapist, who works overtime to fix the mess that is Coriolanus Snow and is tipped generously once Tigris gets her fashion business off the ground.

Livia complains about the general mean girl/boy-ness of her friend group and Facet hesitantly but kindly informs her that she’s been gossiping about them behind their backs too and maybe she should try to work on herself so the better friend groups will want to hang out with her. Lo and behold once she shows her real self she gains a less toxic circle of people around her. Not even she knows when she started considering Facet part of it, but damn it all if she won’t use her mom’s bank connections to make sure she won’t lose the person who singlehandedly managed to change her life for the better.

Palmyra doesn’t think she’s mean, but Velvereen opens her eyes to the idea of passive meanness. Actions can be bad, but sometimes inaction is worse. Not telling her friends to stop insulting some poor kid isn’t being ‘neutral’, because silence is taking the side of the agressor. Velvereen only said it in regards to Palmyra’s social life, but it doesn’t take the mentor long to take a step back and apply that logic to the games. She doesn’t like them, but she sure as heck never did anything to stop them, did she? Maybe it was time to change that, and maybe it was time to share her newfound wisdom with her classmates.

Marcus doesn’t like Sejanus. Not at all. But he deserves better than this. So he points out all the ways in which Sejanus’s friends… kinda suck? Because they’re not as mean to him as other Capitol people but that doesn’t make them good. So he suggests owning the title of District Scum more than he already does and no longer doing anything for them so they realize how much he’s done for them despite their snotty attitudes. Sejanus tries it, and several people’s weeks are ruined because of how many nice guy things Sejanus was doing. He gains a lot more respect, and his voice suddenly has a whole lot more impact. Marcus didn’t foresee a sudden pushback to the games thanks to his little comment, but he’s not complaining. Not in the slightest.

Festus saw himself as a good individual. He had some less “savory” tastes like dog fighting, sure, but that didn’t make him a bad person. He was even feeding his tribute, because not doing so would be heartless. He’s a good person! Well, Coral rips that fantasy apart and enjoys his resulting metaphorical tears for breakfast when she breaks it to him after he asks her why she hates him so much: feeding her is less than the bare minimum, and he’s doing it with massive ulterior motives too. She lays out all the shitty things he’s done and wow does that force him to reflect. She may not have intended it, she was merely blowing off steam, but… that truly changes him. Because he suggested executing any District citizen that doesn’t watch the games… the games where their children are being murdered. Then he starts seeing, actually seeing the tributes instead of looking at them like circus animals, and he realizes they’re not being murdered by each other because none of them have a choice. They’re being murdered by the Capitol and everyone in it who only see the barbaric death and ignore the cause of it. Then he sees how close the tributes from 7 are, the kids from the district that brings his family money. The reason for his own wealth and status… maybe there’s more that Festus had been unable or unwilling to see, and while he’s working on figuring out how to end the games, maybe it’s worth asking about the conditions of the people who suffer for his comfort.

Pup Harrington knows about war. His dad’s a general, how could he not? But talking to Lamina gives him some insights he’d never had before. From the other side. War’s cruel, but he’d never wanted to realize it’s cruel for all sides. Even the one he doesn’t like. And when he sees her crying, he sees his own friends and family all those years ago. At first it annoyed him, but then when he confided in her in a moment of frustration, she opened up to him and showed her she understood him. Then he realized her tears annoyed him because they made it harder to distance himself from her. They made it harder to see her as an animal. From that moment on, he vows to get her out of these games. It only takes one more conversation with her for him to realize that if the most surefire way of achieving that goal is getting all the tributes out and stopping the games as a whole just to make her happy and ensure her safety, then the consequences be damned he’s gonna make it happen!

Arachne was happy with her tribute. She’s big and muscular and has a pretty good chance of winning. Not as good as Livia or Lysistrata or Clemensia, maybe, but good enough. But Brandy is district, so of course she’s gonna tease a little. At first the girl steals a knife and lunges for her throat, but she stops. For some reason, she has mercy. And then she talks. About home, about her troubles, her insecurities, all the things Arachne had never even thought district people would have because they weren’t human. When she’s done, Brandy turns to Arachne and sits down cross legged. “So, which one of these made you think bullying a starving child with food would make you better? How did you think this was a good idea in any way?” And Arachne has no answer because she hadn’t thought about it. She was Capitol and this girl was District, they both deserved what they’d gotten right? Arachne just did these things to people below her because… because why? Because that’s all she’s ever been taught to do. It’s how things were. And in a way it felt good to remind others (and herself) of her status. But this girl shared so many problems that Arachne could relate to… maybe it was worth asking a few more questions. And maybe it’s time for her to use her Crane status for a selfless goal for once.

Vipsania is competitive. Very competitive. Since a big part of her victory is going to be performance, she tries to figure out a way to exploit her tribute’s clear affinity for entertainment. It starts by forcing him go perform for food in the zoo, and things go according to plan for a while. That is until she gets into another fight with her parents about her plans for the future. They just don’t get it! When she rants about it to her classmates in the zoo, her tribute overhears and calls her over. She wasn’t here for him, she was just going along with her friends since they had plans for after this, and she hasn’t talked to her tribute since the interviews where he’d been chained to the table. Vipsania doesn’t know what made her decide to waste her time on this, but she does. He asks her why she’s so against the career paths her parents want for her, and it’s so stupid because isn’t it obvious?! She’s not them! But the boy, Treech, isn’t satisfied. He looks at her with stupidly soft sympathetic eyes as he asks her why she’d think going into those careers isn’t “her”. It’s stupid and it’s none of his business and he’s just a tool for her victory and she knows he knows that so why does he care? But she indulges him, if only to get it off her chest, and he listens. He listens to her rant and rave just quietly enough to not disturb anyone and by the end of it he’s far more understanding than anyone else she’s ever talked to. He doesn’t belittle her or try to get her to “see her parents’ perspective” like others have done, he validates her feelings instead. He tells her what she wanted to hear: she’s right to feel this way. But then he tells her what she needs to hear: “have you ever told them this? Have you explained to them why you feel this way instead of just stating that you do?” She hasn’t. Treech suggests she try, so she humors him. It works. Once she sits down with her parents and lays it all out the way Treech helped her figure out, they actually listen and change their minds. The whole situation gets her thinking about her view of her tribute. She hadn’t been subtle about how she views him, and still he went out of his way to help her. To be kind and supportive and helpful to someone who treated him badly. What did that say about what she’d been taught? What did that say about her? It doesn’t take her long to realize what she has to do. Vipsania is competitive, and she refused to lose Treech’s life to the Capitol’s (and her own) cruelty. She would repay his kindness no matter what.

And the list goes on. I’ll type out the other possible problems and give more depth at some point in the future but I need to go to bed lmao (also the tag limit is 30). Either way, the mentors get free therapy and a conscience for the lowly price of staging a coup. They sabotage the pre-game program to buy time and when Gaul orders the games to start her lab is suspiciously bombed, giving Felix the time to drop trying to convince the president to withdraw his support for the games and go full blackmail instead. The president is annoyed until he’s forced to meet Dill and starts making arrangements to get the tributes checked over in the hospital before sending them home with communicuffs to stay in contact with their mentors if they wish.

hey!!!! i am so excited for the new chapter drop, and i just wanted to offer some insight into why people might have gotten frustrated last time with the delays even tho you owe us nothing lol. i think it was about information rather than the fic itself… so maybe instead of pushing the drop day back by one day (repeatedly if need be), a whole week, or two week, pushback at a time could frustrate people less... then if it's ready sooner than that, it'll be a lovely surprise for everyone who wasn't expecting it for another week or two!! plus you guys would be giving yourself like an extra week to chill and finish it instead of the pressure of just 24hrs, (which is nothing what with real life etc) and you could even have a few days off before dropping it if you DID finish it early, cos no one would be any the wiser!

just an idea, that's what i'd do i think and that's how deadline pushbacks often work at my college so i thought i'd share :) hope that's not presumptuous :) you might already be doing this who knows :)

hello hello we are super excited for it as well!! re: your insight — we totally get why people are annoyed by delays, because it definitely is frustrating to look forward to something and constantly have it delayed, especially a little bit at a time and multiple times in a row, so trust me when i say that we fully understand that and wouldn’t be pushing it back by these increments if we didn’t think it would fully be done by a certain time. the 1 or 2 day delays for ch9.2 in particular were 1. made when there were only about one day’s worth of edits left to be made on 9.2, so it was a very reasonable guess to us, and 2. extremely circumstantial and unexpected. thea was very very close to being done but stuff kept coming up, like her being too physically tired after working her shift (her schedule is all over the place usually) to keep editing which she didn’t think she would be, or getting delayed at work for hours, or the one time we got that one anon about ch9.2, thea had been actually and literally swarmed by thousands of people at her job and simply was not in the mood to hear someone complaining about a chapter being delayed by another day or two. there also is something to be said about how we’ve seen people complain or get annoyed when it’s pushed back by a longer period of time in advance, which we have also done, so it leaves us kind of trapped between a rock and a hard place — do we overestimate and have people complain, or do we try to give them shorter term update goals and still have them complain?

we fully get why it’s frustrating and aren’t pushing it back little by little in order to be difficult, but either way, we just don’t think people should be in our inbox vocalizing those frustrations to us. they can even complain in dms to their friends about it, we don’t care! we appreciate the sentiment and the insight and we do try to give reasonable estimates for delays as much as we can, but honestly we just don’t really want to hear if people are annoyed 🤷🏽‍♀️ it’s not helpful or productive to us in any way and we would just prefer it stay out of our inbox and out of our sight overall

Imo Mickey hates Monica. I can only see him hate her more if they had met.

I think mickey( because of his relationship with Ian) would be able to sympathise with Monica in some ways but never like her. One of the first emotional moments for mickey and Ian is because of monica. He's introduced to her by Ian, literally running to him for help. So his view of her has always been negative.

I don't completely agree with the idea that he has never seen her, tho. They hadn't formally met, but he grew up like a block away from the Gallaghers and went to the same schools, so he's seen bits of her growing up. Nothing significant enough to change his opinion on her, but enough that he can somewhat accurately imagine what she was like.

Ian gets to tell mickey about the best bits of monica without any pushback. He can't do that with anyone else. It's the fact that mickey has no first-hand experience with monica that let's Ian have a space to love her. That love translates to mickey in a small way. I still think Ian would tell mickey all the bad, of course. Mickey can enjoy those good memories in a way that ians siblings can't because to mickey, they are just good memories.

But mickey is the one who gets to see just how badly Monica affects Ian. Mickey holds Ian when he's depressed and stays beside him when he's manic. Mickey will always blame Monica. He knows that she didn't choose to give her illness to Ian, but she did. Mickey is extremely protective, so he hates the people who hurt Ian.

If mickey had had a chance to know Monica, they dont get along well. Monica has a very positive and kinda overwhelming personality. That just isn't something mickey likes. Even if Monica had been the perfect parent, mickey would still find her a little jarring. I do think monica would like mickey, though. Monica, behind her faults, does want the best for her kids, and mickey is what's best for Ian.

Now I've had a few thoughts about why xenomorphs would want to have sex- there's the idea that this hybridization gave one genitals and a working reproductive system and it's just been blind luck that it hasn't happened before in the series.

Or it could be a thing about the human, where the xenomorphs just really want to fuck them because hormone/pheromones/etc

Alternatively you could say it's a science experiment- the xenomorph/human has been altered by weyland yutani into a state where the xenomorph wants to fuck.

You could also say it's that the human was somehow related to the queen xenomorph- maybe the queen got their phremones on this human, maybe the queen facehugger got a close relative of the human, maybe the queen wants this human to be fucked for whatever reason etc etc

There's also the matter of it's possible that a chestburster dies within it's host (as has happened within cannon), putting the life of the host in no immediate peril (tho the chestburster could've died because of the host's health) while still making them not attacked on sight by xenomorphs. That explanation would require a little more explanation to make them actually want sex, but it's a possibility.

Another possibility, to add onto the last one is that xenomorphs already fuck each-other a bunch, just not in the presence of things outside of the hive. So if a human were to be accepted as a part of the hive, they would get fucked because that's how the hive works.

Feel free to mix and match the explanations BTW, I don't think any of these are mutually exclusive

I'm so glad I'm not the only one pondering this. I was also thinking of a science experiment scenario. Mix the hybridization with the science experiment idea into a dub-con scenario. tbt to that time someone in the Seireitei had a candlemaking side hustle

where the draw was that each candle was meant to evoke different types of reiatsu, as described by the traditionally florid prose of candle/perfume descriptions. There was some press around the candles' potentially homeopathic effects, and though the 12th put a stop to that pretty quickly, some shinigami had standing orders for the candles because some users swore that burning the candles could help augment one's own reiatsu. (One wing of the 3rd Division barracks did burn down, but that's neither here nor there.) You could commission custom blends if you paid for a reiryoku reading, which the candlemakers then used to whip up a candle specialized to you.

Where things got really tricky was when the founder of the Gotei Candle Co. tried to step it up and offer a limited edition Gotei Captain candle set, where each candle was meant to describe/evoke the reiatsu signatures of, well, the Gotei Captains. You can't normally brand things like that without express permission of the Council of 46 (though notably not the Captains' individual permissions, which don't factor into this at all, officially), but the Gotei Candle Co. knows that the SWA gets permission to run their calendars every year, and they thought if they did a Gotei Candle Co. x SWA collab, it would be a real knockout event.

BUT photo calendars are one thing and reiatsu signature candles are another, and when this went to the Council of 46 they found that they DID actually have to consult the Gotei, to determine whether or not the candles constituted a breach of military security. And this had to go to a Captains' Meeting vote. The voting was split across several positions:

captains who believed the candles constituted a breach of military security because anything COULD be a breach of military security

captains who realized that believing that would mean greenlighting the idea that the candles were accurate to their reiatsu in any way, which might tacitly confirm the notion that the candles had actual homeopathic validity, on which grounds they refused

captains who believed in the candles, actually

captains who were willing to say the candles were a breach of military security and all that other stuff just because they did not want the candles to exist

captains who had no real opinion on military security or science but disliked the candles, yet still refused to tarnish their principles by pretending the candles were legit even if it meant they had to be a candle

In any case, the Council of 46 refused to make a move without evidence-based deliberation from the Gotei, so they had to spend hours and hours sniffing candles as part of the process. And the 12th wanted to run a test so there'd be science-backed proof that the candles did/did not accurately type Captain reiatsu, because they did not believe captains sniffing things constituted actual evidence-based anything. There was some pushback against this, but ultimately the 12th prevailed and the REASON the 12th has all the captains' reiatsu typed--and having this done is now part of any captains onboarding, even post-candle debacle--is because OF THESE DANG CANDLES.

Eventually the Gotei decided, fuck it, these candles are a no-go, I don't care. But then Sasakibe brought up the fact that to deny them outright was technically a violation of the Commercial Clause of 1457, which states that when military procedure infringes on free trade within the Seireitei, it must offer an alternative enterprise as part of the sanction. After all the candle business, having to deal with this hangup was the closest the Gotei has ever come to executing mass ritual suicide in Yamamoto's office. Strange but true. The candles, man.

Anyway, at some point Byakuya leaks this to Shirogane, because He Cannot With This, and Shirogane suggests "okay no candles but what about eyewear tho" and Byakuya brings this to the next Captains' Meeting and Byakuya is, briefly, a HERO to his peers, and Shirogane is a HERO and that's why they let him leave the Gotei entirely and open up a glasses store.

Hey not to drag this out any longer—but its interesting to see the makeup conversation from both sides. Saying this as someone who enjoys and appreciates makeup, and understands its many pitfalls and problems. People have probably said this, but I think you can understand both sides without bashing the other. Both are valid and both are worth talking about. You can love makeup but also understand why other women don't want to wear it and have their issues with it and vice versa. That its not an attack on you personally. I deeply understand people having a problem with separating that tho–we are only human. But I think we should strive for it regardless. Idk if this is really connected but I think some of the strong reaction from the women who enjoy makeup comes from the era (eras???) of ladies who were made to feel ashamed or belittled for being a 'girl' or a 'woman' growing up by guys (ESPECIALLY grown men). I swear, look back on it, there was a time where being feminine was very much being ridiculed in media and being the 'not-like-other-girls' girl was upheld. So this resulted in these girls growing up to realize how awful that time was and are now 'reclaiming' being feminine and not ashamed. I'm not saying this explains ALL of the makeup women's reactions but I feel some in my gen were definitely connected to that 'era' (think bratz vs barbie). But as a result, any pushback towards that is seen as a flashback to that ridicule and they don't want that shaming to return, instead of seeing it as an important convo to have. I feel like they aren't seeing the negatives (ones you have said)—like expecting 'tomboys' and non-feminine people to suddenly 'wake up' and not be ashamed of being a woman anymore or that those people presenting that way is somehow an attack on feminine women or them saying that feminine women should feel bad about themselves. Even if that 'era' (again idk if eras, women have always been clowned on) happened to a gen of women, society has ALWAYS favored the feminine women. Yes feminine ladies are made fun of, but non-feminine women have it hard from ALL sides. We need to have these conversations and stand united. All of us are valid and none of us should expect the other to perform (especially in favor of society and beauty standards).

No, I actually think you have a point because I do agree with you regarding that "generation" (it does feel weird to call it that because it wasn't even that long ago): I think a lot of 2014-16 online feminism (what became mainstream, at least) was built precisely on that--the "eyeliner sharp enough to kill a man" era--and it was the first introduction to feminism that I had. As someone who was a "not like other girls" girl I probably would have stayed that way if all that discourse hadn't given me the vocabulary and framework I needed to understand why I felt such an obligation to separate myself from the things "other girls" liked (Ugg boots, Twilight etc).

And to be fair, the premise behind that reclamation, given the context it arose in, makes sense--it was a deliberate pushback against this incredibly narrow, hypocritical, and reductive view of what a woman "could" be: beautiful or intelligent, but absolutely not both. Attempting to dismantle that dichotomy was desperately needed, and I think it was important for a lot of girls to realise they weren't doomed to choose one or the other, but I think it's interesting because dismantling it by saying "actually, you can be both" leaves those two categories intact without really questioning what we mean by them. "You can be intelligent and beautiful", implies, in a subtle and roundabout way maybe, that beauty should still be an aspiration.

And I think it's this last thing that's probably come back to haunt us and is one of the (many) reasons we've ended up where we are. I think it's inevitable that this conversation regarding makeup and "feminity" evolved in the way it did because it happened within a societal framework that is deeply individualistic and only became even more so as social media expanded--by affirming women's agency in telling them, "you can choose who you are and what you want to be" (a necessary and important message) in a society where freedom is defined by individual choices, but not collective rights (and therefore responsibilities) means that you can, so easily, make that agency fit into already established and oppressive structures, without actually risking those structures and therefore maintaining their perceived legitimacy. And after a certain point we end up conflating the two in such a way that you are unable to criticize the structures without being seen to criticize women--because, like you said, it's something that's really difficult for some to separate.

I'm not denigrating this pushback or saying it was wrong to try and make girls feel less ashamed, but I think we have so easily missed the actual root of that movement, if you really get down to it, which was, more than anything, about denying the idea that women can, or should, be pigeonholed into arbitrary roles and live their lives confined by other people's warped ideas of who they can and cannot be. But I think the fact that we never fully questioned beauty as an aspiration in the "beauty and brains" equation legitimized it as a goal in a way and allowed a certain expression feminism to become as mainstream as it did because, ultimately, if it did not threaten beauty as a construct, then it could be tamed or made more palatable (and which is partly why, I think, that we have all this "divine feminine", "feminine energy" nonsense coming back)--certain rights have improved, true, and there has been more conversation regarding gender and women's marginalisation as a whole, which is so important--but by maintaining beauty as a standard we are also maintaining other forms of pigeonholing (and therefore marginalising) women because beauty is reductive too: if a perceived notion of "Beauty" is legitimised and valued, then we legitimise a structure where people who don't qualify as "beautiful" are actively devalued (and this plays into the added discrimination and dehumanization disabled women, women of colour, older women, and trans women are subjected to).

So, yes, what you said absolutely makes sense to me because I really do think that did play a part and it's something I can completely understand. I just wish (like so much else) that our manner of talking about these things was more open-ended and not so individualistic and insular, that we could approach them with the expectation of learning something new instead of coming from a defensive position--which truly shows, I think, that there still is a lot of shame attached to these things and that has never been fully explored or discussed properly: and that's proof of just how much we actually need to keep trying to have these conversation (even if every other tiktok trend is trying to set us back another 50 years).

I wonder, if Meryl is right about Usagi not being a drug addict, then what are the drugs for? I think there's a possibility he buys the drugs for his mom, since his dad died unexpectedly. Maybe...

I answered this in a previous ask but I can think of some scenarios where Usagi bought drugs but wouldn't be considered a drug addict. I'll elaborate more on those scenarios in this one.

He's buying it for his mother:

It doesn't seem out there that Mrs. Alohaoe developed an addiction to cope with her grief, and that led her to make Usagi go buy drugs when the cravings hit. Usagi could be guilted into buying the drugs, believing his mother is suffering a lot and the drugs are really helping her. There's also the possibility of Usagi being abused as well if we can interpret the financial situation as Mrs. Alohaoe holding money over Usagi's head and that's why he does what he can to spend all his money and use all his resources. Putting her on drugs would sedate her enough that she doesn't get abusive, and he probably plans on drugging her after the heist so he can buy time to hide his newly earned money.

He's buying for himself but chickened out:

Mrs. Alohaoe, as a response to her grief and possible emotional incest, is a helicopter parent who wants to make sure her precious son is given the best and sheltered from EVERYTHING. Usagi, feeling constricted, decides he wants to try drugs as a step into becoming a "cooler" person, but backs out at the last minute. Meryl Mei catches him and convinces him to join the heist under the pretense that he could gain friends as a result. Usagi being a very sheltered, awkward teenager trying to belong would explain why he acts so eccentric. He probably knows his team thinks he's a drug addict, so he plays along with it in hopes that he could make it be an asset. He tries to win them over with elaborate plans and whatnot, but it doesn't work.

I kind of speculate Usagi's backstory and how he's written would be similar to that of Narancia or Trish.

Narancia was close to his mother before she died. He became estranged to his father, which led him to become a delinquent. He is betrayed, but it leads him to find a group of people who treated him well. Despite their pushback, he joins their group and becomes close to them after gaining their trust. As a backstory, this could be a similar backstory for Usagi; the death of his father could have affected him and his mother despite the nonchalant way he was describing his past to Dragona. He's in the process of gaining his team's trust and we've sort of pigeonholed him to being a rather "innocent, child-like" character like Narancia is often characterized as.

As for Trish, I remember someone analyzed her character as a representation of us the readers. Trish is the outsider, unsure of how she belongs and starts off as an observer that the team does not completely trust or is amicable towards beyond the bare minimum. However, she grows to become a valued member and ally, even helping them take down the main villain who happened to be related to her. Usagi could be a representation of us readers in the modern era observing and trying to become part of the gang. Unlike Trish, who is more of a watcher, Usagi is more proactive, which makes things comical and annoying for the team, but it might lead to him destroying all traitor allegations for sure.

Personally, I still think Usagi is taking drugs but Meryl Mei reasons his addiction as a necessity rather than a means to kill time or not be a functioning member of society.

I do hope Usagi doesn't get killed off tho.

6. What would their dream home look like?

Nothing too fancy, of course! For them, I think the location matters more than the house itself.

I imagine that when they finally settle down, they choose a place in Hatari, near the Desert of Death, so that Mist and her family can come visit, but still in an obscure enough location that Ike isn’t being hounded with his admirers. Plus the dry heat of Hatari is great for Soren. I imagine that, because of his dragon blood, he gets cold really easily, and has a high tolerance to heat.

As for the house itself, it would have to be spacious enough for them and their hobbies (and any children/pets they might end up taking in), but not to the point where they have a bunch of extra space they aren’t using. In fact, they might start with a small cottage, and then Ike would learn to add on extra rooms as needed. Soren would need his own study, of course. And Ike would require a large yard so that he can practice his sword forms.

The house itself would be very basic, made of materials that are abundant in Hatari. As for decoration, I think it would be very minimalistic, but still tasteful. Soren has an eye for quality furniture and home goods, stuff that will last for generations and also fits the naturalistic aesthetic of their home.

I also like envisioning that they have a porch, so that they can be outside but still enjoy the shade. I imagine the sun in Hatari can get really harsh.

15. Do they face any pushback from friends, families, or society over their relationship?

From the Greil Mercs? For the most part, the answer is no.

I don’t imagine that Ike and Soren ever officially come out, but it’s not like their relationship is a secret, either.

Titania and Mist figure it out pretty quickly. Both of them are supportive, as they’ve been more or less anticipating Ike and Soren getting together at some point anyway, and they’re happy to see that their intuition was right.

The brothers are also supportive. I hc Oscar as bisexual, so I think he would try to be their queer role model. Boyd and Rolf are surprised at first, but they quickly learn to accept that Ike and Soren are in love, and actually have been in love for a while, so not much has changed.

Mia, I hc as aro/ace. She does not really understand the appeal of dating anyone, but she’s also not the type of person to judge other people. If Ike and Soren want to date, then that’s just fine by her!

With Rhys, I feel like Soren might worry about whether his religious upbringing will color his opinion of them, but in truth, Rhys very much ascribes to the belief system that everyone is deserving of love. He does not hold any prejudice against Ike and Soren.

As for Shinon and Gatrie… I think they would be the exception. Shinon doesn’t like either Ike or Soren anyway, and while he isn’t opposed to them dating, I think his avarice towards them might manifest in some vaguely homophobic language. And Gatrie is so misogynistic/girl crazy that he can’t conceive of any man who wouldn’t want to date a woman.

However, I still don’t think the pushback would be massive. Ike and Soren would just have to deal with Shinon’s snarky comments and Gatrie’s utter confusion.

As for society at large… I think they would cause quite a stir in Tellius if it became well-known that the Radiant Hero Ike is in a relationship with a man. They have this mental image of Ike in their heads, and for some, that might ruin the fantasy. They might feel hurt or betrayed (even tho Ike owes them nothing, but they would choose to ignore that.) So I think Soren works hard to ensure that they never have to worry about public backlash.

Thankfully, he doesn’t have to work too hard, because people will always assume that two men are just good friends before anything else.

do the cats in wac have any stuff about gender and sexuality? what was it like for cats like canary and lain figuring out who they are?

see, for once in my stupid life, bigotry towards queer people isn't a theme in WAC at all so I haven't thought THAT much about how these cats do gender and such. I know it is widely accepted and most people won't give a shit about it. a "do what you want kinda thing." There are however pretty ingrained gender roles. Men go to war women care for children you know the deal. They are often freely allowed to do the other's roles with little to no pushback, but there are expectations ya know.

Lain figured out his gender near the start of the war/conquest. He was still fairly young and was surrounded by other guys, and just felt much more connected to them and manhood than to womanhood (women were allowed to fight in the war but. you know.). Of course, him exploring his identity and feeling more like himself was stifled by the King choosing out his new name for him, instead of allowing him to pick one himself.

Warbler grew up in a colony that did not give people's names until they had a job. Until they had one, they were simply called "molly" or "tom" based on their gender. Warbler even as a young child didn't really like being constantly referred to by her birth gender and was very happy when Crane took her in and she found out she was able to pick out her own name! After that she very quickly put together that she wasn't boy. Warbler really wants to connect with other trans people and she tried to with Canary but then she died. and then she tries to with Grouse and Grouse is a bitch.

GROUSE IS ALSO TRANS. I FORGET IF I'VE SAID THAT. Grouse figured out he was trans when he was young and still living on his own with his family. he simply just Felt More Boy. They were all chill and fine with it! Though honestly when Condor saved him I think Condor would be a bit thick skulled and be like..... Canary is a special case cause she's not binary trans like the rest of them. She's like. Genderfluid cis guy. She identifies wholly with being a dude but she likes to have fun with it. She's always liked doing some of the more "womanly tasks" (primarily nest making and caring for kittens and cleaning stuff up) and found it more fun then hunting or anything. She's a dude but also a housewife. you understand. you get me. This probably came out the most when she met Mariner and mariner said some like. insane shit like "you're a bee on the outside but you're as graceful as a flower" and she was just like "sure yeah i'll adopt that into my world view can you call me a woman even tho i am literally a man"

This is such a weird, charming, weird, i think it's broken, but maybe there's a copypasta thing going on that i didn't find the payoff to, charming kinda level. The whole build just oozes good cheer, and there's so much detail work done up-front, i just fell in love wiv it as soon as it started. The tofu(?) blocks wiv their little smiles and blinks and colour changes? Yeah, like, that's the good stuff. Gameplay-wise there's nothing too snazzy or stressful, but there's enough going on that i had a good time wiv it beyond just absorbing the vibe. i liked that LBP2 spin on the common jetpack puzzle we got in LBP1, that was a good time. But then, what was going on wiv that dialogue bit at the beginning? Why does the level just deadstop like it does? i'm sure there's something more that was supposed to be going on, and i can only imagine that the translation to LBP3 borked it somehow (tho', that still doesn't account for the dialogue); it just feels weird that OmgCakes would have decided to end it the way they did. There was that bit on the title page that said they couldn't edit the level any more for DLC reasons, but... did they have most of the build done wiv scoreboard placed, and just hadn't filled out the last section before whatever went sideways did? That wouldn't even be that strange. The archive level i'm working on has the scoreboard set in, but no way to access it yet, because i needed to see what that area would look like to be able to set up the end. i don't know, it's weird. And a little disappointing. And i'd love to hear from the creator what happened. Still, i had a good time, and i really needed a cheery level when i recorded the episode. Still feel a little bad i broke it the way i did when we did the first impressions run, tho'. -------------------------------------------------------------------- i think i'm going to have to just redo the turret ghosts in my level. i was working on it on stream last night, and then this morning before work, and as much as i love them from a character standpoint, they just don't click right when i think of the gameplay experience. i've got a few alternate ideas we'll put some time into on stream tonight.
