Just read the first vol. of Magus of the Library. It was pretty good! Got recommended by a friend because Ascendance just ended and it's another story about someone wanting to become a librarian lol.

A lot of early world building and the MC is pretty cute, I hope there are a lot of adventures to follow. It's definitely promising :)

Certes, dans un but de représentation (Westeros étant un monde vaste et riche), nous aimerions que le plus de gens puissent être représentés parmi les grandes familles du jeu. 

Ainsi, au moment de choisir votre personnage et la famille, nous vous demandons de faire un minimum d'effort avant de lui choisir une ethnicité différente de celle suggérée (auquel cas d'ailleurs, si une ethnicité différente est choisi, nous changerons alors l'ethnicité choisie par celle représentée, pour favoriser l'intégration de membres futurs et pour rester cohérent.e.s).

De plus, nous tenons à vous rappeler que nous jouons dans un univers fictif et que les ethnicités à proprement parler se compare différemment des nôtres (autant dire que même les ethnicités de Westeros sont fictives). Nous avons les Premiers Hommes, les andals, le style valyrien, les dorniens, les marchiens, les rhoynars, etc. Or, le métissage est donc forcément quelque chose de plus rependu qu'on peut le penser.

Prenons pour exemple le couple royal composé de Daeron II Targaryen et Mariah Martell. Heureux parents de quatre enfants, pourtant, leurs fils ne se ressemblent pas tous physiquement. 

Certains partagent les traits dorniens de leur mère, comme Baelor qui a, selon le lore officiel, des cheveux noirs de jais coupés courts, hérités de sa mère dornienne. Tandis que Maekar, quant à lui décrit comme un homme sévère, puissamment bâti, portant une barbe d'argent pâle parsemée d'or impeccablement taillée, partage le physique typiquement valyrien de la maison Targaryen. Nous souhaitons que cette diversité de physique soit conservée afin de conserver cette idée selon laquelle, puisque les héritiers de la maison Targaryen partagent de plus en plus de traits dorniens (qui, jusqu’à tout récemment étaient des ennemis de la couronne et du royaume), donne une certaine ‘’légitimité’’ aux prétentions de la Maison Feunoyr sur le Trône de Fer.

Who's been your favorite whumpee for long? Favorite whumper? Caretaker?

i literally jumped up and down when i saw this in my inbox, my first ever ask aaa 🫶🫶 thank you for this question!!

my favorite of well anything changes a lot, whumpees are no exception. i think one of my long-time favorite whumpees is bennett from genshin impact, and more obscurely, theo fumis from magus of the library. there's so many ways you could whump bennett due to his bad luck, and i just love both characters so i wanna see them comforted after being whumped.

i wrote all that for favorite whumpee but i don't really have a favorite whumper. i focus more on the caretaking post-whump than the whump itself, however if i had to pick it'd be arlecchino from genshin. i see so little of her as a whumper but i think she'd make a good one haha

and finally, favorite caretaker...also hard to pick. 😅 i think it's diluc ragnvindr if i'm being honest, though he's closely followed by roy mustang. i dont even have an explanation, i just adore them.

𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭��𝐞 𝐋𝐢𝐛𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲: 𝐌𝐲 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚

Prelude:

Recently there was a large book fair in my city, this year with a much wider assortment of manga (last year I saw like 6 series tops). So I decided to pick one out, there were very few first volumes and most I wasn't interested in but this one stuck out to me from its cover alone.

Actual book talk:

The book follows a kid named Theo Fumis, a good egg, who adores books, but in his hometown of Amun is discriminated against on the account of his mixed race so isn’t allowed in the local public library. Theo dreams of one day visiting Aftzaak, City of books, where he could read all the books he wants.

I’m not gonna say the plot is exceptionally special, I'm sure something similar already exists but, I really like it. I enjoy seeing how the most disenfranchised members of society are treated, it really helps set up a good groundwork for any further worldbuilding.

Hell, let's talk more about the worldbuilding. The fact that it’s based on Arabia and the folklore of Arabian nights is really refreshing, and it works really well in the context of the story, considering the importance of the Islamic golden age in the history of literature and libraries. The Islamic culture of giving alms is covered briefly as well, and the possible reason why Theo hasn't received any deepens the world nicely. Plus the astatic is just 😙👌. 

Not to say the text rests on its laurels, it has some really nice worldbuilding unique to it. For example, the one that really impressed me was how the sea in this world has become virtually unnavigable due to the heavy fog, and thus the most popular book series is about a pirate captain mapping the world to claim it as its own(in a chill way). According to the VERY nice worldbuilding section at the back of the volume, it's also pushed by the central library to promote cultural tolerance among its readers, which is very cool of them 👍! The central library and its librarians seem very interesting as well, can't wait to learn more about them in their offices in further volumes. the magic system has some potential but at least in this volume it's not heavily explored, but I would love to learn more about spirits that can apparently enchant books.

[Characters]

All the characters were very interesting with the exception of the townsfolk who understandably didn't get many lines. 

Theo is the quintessential kid protagonist, staying very nice and polite even through all the racism he goes through on the daily basis. That’s not saying he’s some kind of saint, he loathes his long ears, pale complexion, and blonde hair, that differentiate him from the townsfolk, wishing he wasn't shunned. He also feels guilty for making his sister have to provide for him and his education.

Tifa, is an especially hard working and caring sister to Theo, working dawn to dusk to put him through school and give him opportunities that she never had because she can’t read. My hope is that she isn’t relegated just to flashbacks after Theo leaves town.

The Kafans (librarians)

from all the librarians has to be Pipiri, a rowdy pixie like creature, the primary representative of the restoration office, her off the cuff and silly yet knowledgeable personality with her expressive movement quickly endured me to her. I especially liked her interactions with her junior and protogyny Nanako, where she is often the butt of the joke.

Nanako herself is a grate character. She’s fairly reserved but not shy and highly skilled for her age and experience. her mild nature plays perfectly off  Pipiri’s hot and brash nature; even though she seems somewhat demining in their interactions it’s obvious Nanako admirers if mothing Pipiri’s skills as a  restorer, a position with Nanako is dedicated mind and soul.

Sedona despite being the Kafan we spend the most time with didn't feel especially interesting. Only after I had some time to reflect, I realized that she was the only person we saw using magic,  I assumed magic was not that rare among Kafans but it's possible it's rare and mostly concentrated in the members of the Protection office.

Lastly, there’s Anzu, the head of the expedition and an experienced member of the liaisons office. Let's get this out of the way first she's a MILF with a hard M, she's a mother of six with what has to be a very dedicated husband. She's by far the most experienced and knowledgeable in the group. I liked her a lot!

[Final thoughts]

Overall I really liked My Magus of the Library! The story is fairly simple and straightforward, but the characters and worldbuilding make it a unique and enjoyable take on the fantasy genre. It's got a lot of potential and I'm looking forward to the next volume (actually in the time it took me to write this I already bought the next volume, but haven't touched it yet).

I found this really good Manga

I found this really neat manga, I asked for recommendations from our librarians, and I’m reading one called “Magus of the Library.”

It is about a little boy named Theo, and he longs to be in the library, but he is shunned from there because he has pointy elf ears and is different from everyone in the town. He is poor, and lives in the “slums” with his older sister, that works herself to the bone just to make money to send her little brother to the school so he can learn to read and write.

One day, the Librarians of the big library from afar off come to visit the small little village that Theo calls home. He meets one of the librarians, named Sedona, and she sparks up a friendship with him, and she lends him one of her most prized possessions- one of her favorite books to read, because he saved it from getting rained on.

That’s some of the plot, I don’t want to give too many spoilers. I am on the second volume, and I love Theo and Sedona, I see myself a lot in both of the characters, being the outsider for loving books (Theo) and then loving and protecting books, and don’t like seeing them get destroyed and to protect the “texts” (Sedona)

I am on the second volume already, although they are quite thick, I’d recommend them although it might sound a tad bit boring to slog through because it is thick, despite having only 5 chapters in Vol 1. It also might sound boring when you tell people that it is about Librarians.

I stole the joke from Disney channel

in chapter 1 Serena and Mikado were making Cherry cakes together (I think) and actually fought with the cake batter at some point. It was really funny- Serena gets comfortable with him during an rp after the first death, where Mikado drags her outside and away from Reed’s body. So when I saw this joke of someone saying “I could hug you rn” but not actually hugging them I laughed saying “LOL ITS SERENA AND MIKADO IN CH1 BEFORE SHE GREW COMFORTABLE WITH HIM TOUCHING HER PFPF” 

Serena is an emotional drunk while Theo doesn’t get drunk so my friend said “Theo would take care of her” and this happened 😂 Overprotective big bro is not ok with it and is on the hunt for who is responsible for this (he also calls her Rena)

My part of a collab with Em, Fumi’s creator! Fumi is wearing Callum’s hoodie cause Calmi FTW. Remember when last time I drew Fumi with a way too low resolution by mistake? This time I tried to draw with a high resolution than normal but my phone freaked out because of it, only had 12 layers to work with when normally I work with 50+ layers! and the app kept crashing ;w; but at least I somehow made it in the end.

I’m literally being hunted by a City Hunter AU for Theo, Serena and Mikado. Theo is the city hunter who is looking for what happened to his parents and how the government was the reason for their disappearance, Serena is his idiot “friend” who discovered his identity and basically gets shot protecting him (but survives somehow), and Mikado is Serena’s best friend since childhood who helped her through a lot of shit in the past. I may or may not have made Serena’s love hotel scene be based on this AU :3

Jaantje kwam zonder overdreven Zuidamerikaanse bureaucratie- of corruptieproblemen op 24 december terug uit Columbia met een kerstkindje, dat we een echte Hollandse naam gaven: Jurriaan. Dat werd al gauw Jur. En later Professor P. van Purrestein. Zijn voornaam Mauricio (en zijn achternaam Buitrago) had hij in Colombia van zijn onvindbare moeder gekregen, dus Mauricio hebben we gehouden.

[Zo'n 30 jaar later heeft Jur met behulp van Facebook zijn biologische moeder en enkele halfbroers- en zussen gevonden in Bogota. Later meer daarover.]

Mick Coco Jurriaan

Coco, klein als ze was, ontfermde zich meteen als een waar moedertje over haar nieuwe broertje.

Twee Japanse peettantes op deze kerstwens van Fumie en Jerommeke babbelen onder het genot van een kommetje rijstwijn opgewonden over de nieuwe aanwinst van André-san, Jurriaan. Een voor Japanners zeer moeilijk uit te spreken naam vanwege de dubbele rr.

*In het nieuwe jaar 1989 kocht ik net als vele Amsterdammers een huisje op camping Bakkum. Er staan er 1500.

Zo'n huisje moest je kopen voor 1000 gulden en zelf in de lente in elkaar zetten en in de herfst weer neerhalen en stallen bij een boer in de buurt van Bakkum/Castricum.

Het is niet mijn favoriete zomerplek, een camping, maar aangezien er veel vriendjes van Mick en Coco via de Theo Thijssenschool ook op Bakkum zaten maakten we er met z'n allen het beste van. De zee was vlakbij en ik vermaakte me ook met mijn fotocamera tussen de honderden schijnbaar identieke maar toch eigenzinnige optrekjes. Lekker weer iets te verzamelen.

*Vooral Jaantje voelde er in de loop van de tijd steeds meer voor te verhuizen naar een kleinere gemeente met meer groen en frisse lucht. Terwijl ik dagelijks maandenlang heen en weer naar het productiekantoor in Laren of naar studio's reed voor mijn werk keek ik veel rond: Abcoude, Mijdrecht (domineeswoning), Loenen aan de Vecht (burgemeesterswoning), Wilnis (kerkje), Haarlem, Lijnden.

In Vijfhuizen net voorbij Badhoevedorp was ik bijna gezwicht voor het oude stationnetje, echt een prachtige woongelegenheid.

Maar, eerlijk is eerlijk, wat was ik na elke bezichtiging stilletjes blij als we de Egelantiersgracht weer opreden en dat de Westertoren nog steeds recht stond.

Magus of the Library Review

Magus of the Library as stated on the cover, but not yet confirmed to be a real thing, is based of the novel "Kafna of the Wind" By Sophie Schwimm. It is a fantasy manga set in a world heavily influenced by middle eastern culture and history. The story follows....actually it might be best to expand on this world before the story since half the story based on this highly detailed fantasy world in the first place. Here we have a world in which the written text is highly revered, but by no means limited to the high-class society. In the words of one of the most prominent in-world figures, "To protect a text is to protect the world itself." This world is full of magic, but has a very modern feel for how the written text is presented. And it is in Aftzaak, the City of Books, in which a library that is aid to hold a copy of every book in the world stands. The library is staffed by Kafna, who work to preserve the texts, and seek out other texts in the world at large. It is not in this city that we start the story, but in fact in the faraway small village of Amun. One where a young boy, bullied for his looks and economic status, finds the joy of books.

Magus of the Library draws readers in, in much the same that every manga does at first: through it's art. Mitsu Izumi's artwork is appropriately detailed for the fantasy setting and drop dead gorgeous. Unlike a lot of fantasy story's art, I find that Izumi's style is very grounded instead of floaty and ethereal. It makes Magus of the Library's world seem more like a real place. In other words, the art itself is pulling double duty as the medium for telling the story and for world building. Izumi tends to the details of the world, fleshing out the objects, places and people, such that it becomes the easiest thing to read volume after volume of the manga.

But of course, we've all heard at some point that the art of work isn't everything. Nay, it is the story and characters that truly matter. And Magus of the Library is just as well-written as it is drawn. First off, this is very much a plot-driven work. Since it has an intricate word complete with several cultures, languages, and races. There is geo-politics, magic, and a library that makes this world go round. As such, one could reasonably expect its main characters, Theo Fumis, to be the type of hero that is pulled into the action with not much introspective character development. While I would say that there is some of the classic Hero's Journey taking place here, Theo is far from a complicit character. In fact, the beginning of his story is almost a subversion of the so-called "Call to Action."

Theo is a half-blood "elf" and is constantly bullied and discriminated against in his home village. He hates his life, he hates himself, and he hates how he makes life harder for his sister, Tifa. The only times he feels happy is when he has a book in hand and is reading about adventures of heroes that save children like him. Theo wants nothing more than for a hero to whisk him away from this world that only makes him feel terrible and go on an amazing adventure. This, almost happens when a group of Kafna come to his little town to investigate one particular book called a Grimoire. The Kafna, Sedona, treats little Theo with the only kindness he's ever experienced that didn't come from his sister. She's a magi with powers and knowledge and in Theo's eyes, his hero. Theo asks her why she won't take him with her? When will his hero finally come? Sedona replies that his hero won't come now or ever. Because this is his story, and only he can be his own hero. Theo takes Sedona's words and the kindness she gave him to heart, and is inspired to become a Kafna. Theo's motivations are born from a mix of internal love for books and the actions of a role model who gave him the push to overcome the adversity he faced. But as the story goes on, it becomes clear that the discrimination of the village isn't the only challenge he will face.

I am a bit biased here because I adore fantasy stories like this. A vast world and a young character with wide-eyed optimism grows and develops as he explores more of the world and meets more people. It's a story not unlike Witch Hat Atelier and Kemono no Souja Erin. So it won't surprise you when I sing praises unto Magus of the Library to no end. The atmosphere that Mitsu Izumi creates with their art, story, and characters combined is absolutely mesmerizing. I'm not sure why there's that line on the front cover that says this manga was based off a novel when I cannot find that novel anywhere in existence. Seeing that made me want to read ahead in the novel, but it's clear that I'll have to wait for the volume 4 release. Even with just 3 volumes though, Magus of the Library has shown that it has an epic story to tell that will definitely be worth sticking around to find out more.

中環加州大廈內餐廳絕對是約會的No Brainer，絕不失禮的用餐環境，過得去的食物加上用心的擺盤，成為了解決約會晚餐需求的好地點。而這間在大廈當中的日本菜更是殺手鐧，反正有哪個香港人不喜歡日本菜？再者，他們為節日推出了新菜單，當中以日本南部雞肉作鹽燒的菜式更是他們的重點。除了切合日本人在聖誕節會吃雞（不是PUBG）的傳統之外，隨雞送上的白飯亦可填飽一眾男士的餓腸。畢竟吃飽之後才有力氣去慶祝嘛。

對於素食之友而言，這間同樣位處於中上環的餐廳就正中下懷。他們在來年一月才正式開幕，你或者會拿出枱頸剩下十數天壽命的月曆看一看，心想：「聖誕節是在12月，介紹一間1月才開業的餐廳是否開玩笑？」非也非也，所謂「Good things comes to those who wait」當你作為一個素食人已經夠非主流的時候，倒不如再離主流遠一些，拒絕慶祝聖誕。

再者，花花世界的引誘有如天上繁星，所謂食色性也，只有特別如你倆般的關係，才可以經得起時間考驗，區區一個月能激到你們麼？再者，能讓肉食者也吃得開懷的素食餐廳，實在是十隻手指之內的事。

Những lời nhận xét từ người ngoài không khiến các thành viên nản lòng.

Ở độ tuổi 50, bà lấy bằng thạc sĩ ở Mỹ. Hiện Takino còn học tiếng Tây Ban Nha, khiêu vũ và đi bộ. Bà cũng mê trò chơi bài trên máy tính.

Mỗi tối, Takino uống một cốc bia nhỏ. Bà tiết lộ vấn đề sức khỏe duy nhất mình gặp phải là cắt ruột thừa.

Takino không thể tin rằng mình sẽ tròn 90 tuổi vào năm sau, nhưng miễn cưỡng thừa nhận rằng mình sẽ nghỉ nhảy cổ vũ khi 100 tuổi, dù cả nhóm đều muốn bà ở lại.

"3-4 năm nay tôi cảm thấy dễ mệt hơn. Ở nhà nhiều do dịch bệnh cũng khiến thể lực giảm sút", Takino bày tỏ. "Thế nhưng khi được nhảy, tôi sẽ quên hết mọi thứ".
