Truth or Dare
Pairing: Sero Hanta x reader
Genre: fluff, a lil bit of crack
Warnings: swearing (bakugou), but other than that, none! (unless u have traumatic memories of truth or dare)
WC: 3.1k
Summary: Mina and Denki work together to make sure that you know exactly who Sero's crush is.
(A/N): so @klvbxlove requested some headcanons about sero’s fem!crush having an obsession with kpop/anime and sero doing cute stuff for her and i tried sticking with the prompt in the beginning but then i led myself off-topic (oops) so it turned into this! sorry it’s not what u requested, i can write something else for u if u want! i was just struck by sudden ✨inspiration✨ for this fic so...here u go...
“EEEK!” You squealed, bouncing over to your friends. “LOOKLOOKLOOK-”
“(Y/L/N),” Bakugou grumbled. “Calm the fuck down, no one can understand you.”
You took a deep breath, then handed your phone over to Mina.
As soon as Mina saw the screen, she started squealing just like you were.
“(Y/N)!!!! OMGOMGOMGOMG-” she grabbed your arms and started jumping up and down like an overexcited toddler.
Bakugou rolled his eyes, gave an exasperated huff, then stomped away. “Can’t deal with you idiots when you’re like this.”
Mina dragged you by your arm over to a bench on the side of the cafeteria and the two of you spent your lunch break slurping udon and watching your favorite K-pop group’s newest music video on repeat.
Sero was chatting idly with his friends, mouth full of sushi. Unbeknownst to you, he had been watching you from the corner of his eye, sneaking glances every couple of minutes. Dense as Kaminari may be academically, he had noticed Sero’s preoccupation with you throughout the meal.
“Hey bro,” He poked Sero’s elbow with the clean end of his chopstick. “Whaddya keep looking at (Y/L/N)-chan for?” He squinted at Sero. He glanced briefly at you, and seeing nothing out of the ordinary, turned his eyes back on Sero. “Do you have a crush on her or something?”
Sero choked on his piece of salmon and spluttered, face beet red. “N-no! It’s not l-like that!”
Bakugou snorted. “You dumbass. The hell you mean ‘it’s not like that’? Any idiot with eyes and half a brain can see that you’re obsessed with her.”
As Sero tried to deny his feelings for you, Mina slowly shifted her attention from your phone to hers, which was dinging incessantly.
Kaminari
hey bro bro broski my man my lady? minaaaaa
Mina
asdkjfhluhal i told u to stop calling me that and what
Kaminari
so u know abt seros crush right
Mina
u have the AUDACITY to ask me, the queen of gossip, whether or not I know abt seros crush? the sheer AUDACITY is STAGGERING-
Kaminari
ok ok stop bullying me anyways wanna get them tog?
Mina
D U H would be easier if y/n wasn’t so dense and sero wasn’t so chicken
Kaminari
since ur in do u have a plan
Mina grinned. Of course she did. What kind of person did Kaminari think she was?
Mina
take sero to the boba place after school meet u there
Pocketing her phone, she turned back to face you. She had to resist the urge to cackle. This was gonna be fun.
Later that day, you and Mina walked to the dorms together.
“Whaddya say we go out today?” Mina asked excitedly, eyes gleaming. You found it a bit suspicious, since yesterday she had told you that she was failing math and was going to study with Yaomomo today.
“Didn’t you say you were going to study with Yaomomo?”
“Shit.” Mina face palmed. “I did, didn’t I? But I don’t waannnnaaa,” she whined. “Let’s just go out and get some boba and we’ll come back,” she promised, giving you the puppy dog eyes.
“Okay, okay.” You relented. “But if you fail math again, don’t blame it on me.”
She clasped a hand to her chest dramatically. “I would NEVER.”
Giggling, the two of you made your way to Coco’s Café, a cozy little place that served everything from coffee to cookies. It was also a developing cat café, mostly due to the popularity of the kitty that the place was named for, Coco.
Sidling up to the counter, you ordered a matcha boba tea while Mina ordered a strawberry milk tea with lychee jelly and boba.
“Is that it for you ladies today?” The man behind the counter asked cheerfully.
“Yes please!” Mina replied. The two of you sat in a corner booth, sipping your drinks and gossiping.
“Hey (Y/N),” Mina started. “So you know about Sero’s crush, right?”
You halted mid-sip. What? Sero had a crush?
Laughing at your startled expression, Mina leaned forward in a conspiratorial manner. “So,” she whispered. “Who do you think it is?”
You sat there, drink forgotten, racking your brain for possibilities. Jirou and Hagakure hung out with Sero sometimes, exchanging memes and goofing around, but they weren’t really around that often. Usually, Sero only hung out with Kaminari, Kirishima, Bakugou, Mina, and you. Mina, possibly? Was Sero gay? Did he have a thing for, say, Kaminari or Kirishima? You didn’t think that Sero would be the type to like Bakugou, but hey, he put up with Bakugou’s temper all the time, so maybe? Ugh. You resisted the urge to groan and drop your head into your hands. This was so complicated.
Mina sat back, this reaction obviously not being what she had hoped for. “Well?” She crossed her arms. “Do you have a guess yet?”
You thought about it, then decided to pick an answer randomly. “You?” You tried.
Mina snorted and almost spit out her drink. You were absolutely unbelievable. Of all the people you could’ve chosen, you picked HER? “No, (Y/N). It’s not me,” she managed to choke out in between fits of laughter.
You sprawled out on the table, no longer concealing your frustration. “Who is it then?” You whined. “Jirou? Hagakure? Is Sero gay?”
Mina actually did spit out her drink this time.
As she cleaned up her mess, Mina silently judged you with her signature side-eye. She really is that dense, huh. Guess I’ll have to knock some sense into her.
Furiously brainstorming, you tried to think of any more possibilities. As you sat in silence, something warm and fuzzy crawled sneakily onto your lap, and stayed there.
Knocked from your daze, you glanced down and the unfamiliar presence, only to realize that it was a kitty. THE kitty. Coco, the café’s namesake.
“Aww,” you cooed, lightly scratching behind her ears. She purred happily in response to your ministrations and curled into herself, tail tucked neatly around her haunches.
Just then, the doorbell jingled and the rest of your close friends walked in.
“Hey!” Kaminari chirped, giving you and Mina a lighthearted wave.
“Hey!” You replied, unaware of the glare Mina was currently giving Kaminari. As soon as they went up to order, Mina stood up and announced that she was going to the bathroom. You took out your phone and scrolled through your social media feeds, taking advantage of this time to research.
“Psst!” Mina pinched Kaminari’s elbow lightly.
“Ow! What?” Kaminari turned to face her.
Mina gave Kaminari her scariest glare. “I told you to bring Sero, not the whole squad!”
Kaminari whimpered. “But Kirishima heard and wanted to tag along too! And it would’ve been suspicious if I said no! And then Bakubro heard that Kiri was coming and decided to come too-”
Mina sighed. “You could’ve texted Sero in private!”
Scratching the back of his head, Kaminari gave Mina a sheepish smile. “Sorry Mina, I hadn’t thought of that”.
Mina stole a quick glance back at your table, and seeing that you were otherwise occupied, she turned her attention back to Kaminari.
“So, Stage 1 of the plan didn’t work. She didn’t even seem to consider herself as a possibility! However, no fear! It is time that we put Stage 2 into action!” Mina whisper-shouted. “It’ll be more complicated with Kiri and Bakugou present, but we always have a Plan B!” She quickly related her backup plan to Kaminari, who promised to tell the boys (minus Sero) to make it run more smoothly.
After giving Kaminari a quick fist bump, Mina slinked back into her seat. “So, (Y/N),” she paused, chin resting on her hand. “Since the boys are here, why don’t we ask Sero himself?”
You looked up from your phone. You hadn’t really found any clues as to who Sero’s crush could be. Most, if not all, of his posts were with your group of friends. You thought about it for a moment.
“Wouldn’t it be awkward if he didn’t want us to know?” You asked Mina.
“Oh, but we’re nosy friends! It’s our JOB to know and then tease him about it!” Mina giggled. “And besides,” she added. “Aren’t you even a little bit curious?”
You hesitated. She did have a point. You were curious, but at the same time, a little voice in the back of your brain nagged at you. Did you really want to know? Did you really want to see him crushing on someone else, and then tease him about it? That wouldn’t really be funny, for you, at least. But if you disagreed with Mina, it would be suspicious, and besides, you WERE curious. Even if the answer wasn’t the one you wanted, you would still rather it be out in the open than bottled inside. You’d rather know for certain than lose sleep over it at night.
Sighing, you relented. “Sure. What did you have in mind?”
Mina rested both of her elbows on the table and smiled at you, eyes gleaming with mischief.
“Truth or dare.”
As the boys returned, each holding their own drinks, Mina was bouncing in her seat. Bakugou and Kirishima each pulled up a chair, and Sero took the chance to sit next to you. At that, Mina smirked devilishly.
“So,” she grinned, fingertips dancing on the table. “Let’s play truth or dare.”
Bakugou huffed, crossing his arms and leaning back in his chair. He couldn’t believe he’d been roped into this, but Kirishima and Kaminari wouldn’t let him ruin it. Kirishima dropped a fist on the table. “Yeah!” He turned towards Mina. “Who’s starting?”
Mina pretended to think about it, when in reality, she had already made plans.
“How about (Y/N)?”
“Me?” You raised an eyebrow. You thought that Mina would be the one to interrogate Sero.
“Yes you, dummy,” Mina teased. “Is there another (Y/N) sitting here?”
You rolled your eyes. “Who are you calling dummy?”
Mina grumbled. “Just get on with it, would you? Who are you going to ask?”
“Hmm. How about Sero?” You turned to face him. “Truth or dare?”
Sero was panicking. You weren’t the type to give out ridiculous dares, and he definitely needed to be cautious about truth. “Dare.” He said confidently.
You chuckled. Mina had prepared you for this possibility.
“I dare you to kiss your crush within the next 24 hours,” you said, “and the whole squad had to be there to see it.”
Mina and Kaminari let out simultaneous “oohs”. Bakugou pointed out the obvious. “Why the next 24 hours?”
“Because we don’t know who his crush is and they’re probably not here right now,” you answered. “And the whole squad will have to see it to make sure that he does it and doesn’t chicken out. You’ll have to ask their permission first, though,” you added. “Consent is key. Even if they turn you down, as long as you tried, we’ll count the dare as completed.”
Your friends nodded in agreement. Mina clapped her hands gleefully. “You should’ve known, Sero! You can’t hide things from us!”
Sero was *this* close to having a panic attack. He had to consciously remind himself to keep breathing. This is going to be so embarrassing how am I going to do this without making an utter and complete fool of myself gosh you really should’ve not stared at her at lunch today Sero or this wouldn’t have happened jeez are you really that dumb now the whole squad will know and you won’t be able to look her in the eye anymore adfkhiavelrsnjaerliaevr BREATHE SERO BREATHE-
The game continued. Mina dared Bakugou to smile for 5 consecutive minutes, at which Bakugou nearly flew out of his seat, palms crackling.
“You fucking extra how dare you-” He didn’t get to finish, as Mina quickly took out her phone and opened the timer app.
“And the countdown starts now!” She cackled. “That is, unless you forfeit-”
“I’M NOT GONNA LOSE TO YOU, YOU DUMB FUCKING EXTRA!!!” With that, Bakugou angrily took his seat again, disregarding all the angry scowls he received from the rest of the café’s patrons, and pulled his lips up into what could only be described as the devil’s grin. He sat like that for a full five minutes, glaring lasers into Mina, not moving a muscle. You think Mina was mentally scarred after that, because she never looked at Bakugou for the rest of the game.
Kirishima dared Kaminari to record a video of him singing the pi song and send it to Jirou. The poor boy had so many voice cracks while singing it that Kirishima went easy on him and told him to just send the first 15 seconds.
Bakugou dared you to let everyone look through your phone for one minute. You were reluctant, but seeing as you were relatively normal with only minimal embarrassing photos, no confession texts, and a fairly clean search history, you let them do it. The most embarrassing thing they found was your playlist.
“How the fuck is your playlist 74 hours and 42 minutes? What the fuck do you have on here?” Bakugou held out your phone for the rest of your friends to see.
“And why is your history full of that shitty Korean music?”
You gasped. He did not.
“Hey!” You snatched your phone back. “If you’re going to insult my music, you don’t get to continue!”
“Tch.” Bakugou sneered. “You call that shit music?”
You were thoroughly offended by this point and refused to even acknowledge his statement. You glared at Bakugou with as much intensity as you could muster. This man had no taste in music whatsoever.
The 1-minute timer dinged, and Bakugou was saved from a scathing talking-to as you all moved onto the next victim.
Mina was dared to order a glass of milk with ice, then put it on a random table (with customers) and leave without an explanation. She ended up choosing an old couple, likely in their sixties, who were cuddling with two cats. They’d each ordered a cup of coffee and shared a plate of cookies. When Mina put the glass of iced milk on their table, and the two women shared a confused look before turning their attention to Mina.
“Thank you?” The lady with horn-rimmed glasses asked rather shakily.
“Yes, thank you very much young lady, but we didn’t order this?” The one who had a tabby on her lap said, perplexed, looking Mina up and down.
Mina made a motion with her hand, zipping her lips, then giggled and sat back down at your table. The two ladies, baffled, took one look at your table and seemed to understand what was going on. They turned back to their coffees and cats and resumed their conversation.
You had all gone one full circle, and everyone had finished their drinks, so you all decided that it was time to go. You rubbed between Coco’s ears one last time and walked out into the afternoon sun.
“Hey Sero!” Kirishima clapped Sero on his back. “Don’t think we’ve forgotten about your dare,” he smiled cheekily. “Better get it over with when we first head back into the dorms, huh? That’ll probably be the easiest time to get it over with.”
Sero groaned. He’d hoped that you would all forget after the game was over, but his luck had run dry. He’d have to face the music sooner or later. He debated on his options. If he waited too long, he’d seem cowardly. He didn’t want to do that. On the other hand, maybe if he waited a full day, you would all forget? He shook his head. No, with Mina here, she’d never let him live it down. And besides, who was he to renege on a dare?
Taking his hands out of his pockets, he rubbed them together nervously. This was it. This was the moment of truth.
“Hey guys! Wait up!” He called out to Kirishima and Bakugou, who had walked ahead of the group. “I’ve got something to show you!”
Bakugou quirked an eyebrow. “Oh?” He smirked. “Whatcha got, Tape Arms?”
Sero cleared his throat. “I-I’m ready. I’m ready to do the dare.”
Your heart leapt into your throat. It was just you and the rest of the squad here. Did you really have a chance? You were scared to get your hopes up, but maybe, just maybe, you would be the one he kissed.
Hands curled into fists at his sides, Sero gulped. He was doing this. He was really doing this. He closed his eyes, took a deep breath in and out, and strode over to where you and Mina stood.
“(Y/N),” He stared at his feet. “Would you…would you allow me to kiss you?”
You covered your mouth with your hand, trying to calm yourself down. It was you. Sero had a crush on you. Your crush liked you back!
After a while, Bakugou felt the need to step in.
“Oi, dumbass!” He hollered, garnering the attention of curious passerby. “You gonna let Soy Sauce Face over there kiss you or not?”
Your face flushed a furious red. “U-Umm, y-yeah!” You stuttered. “You can kiss me, Sero!” You cringed at how excited you sounded.
Slowly, Sero tilted his face downwards. He lifted your chin tenderly and lowered his lips to yours. His lips were soft against yours, his breath tickling your cheek as he let go. You blushed harder than you ever thought was possible, and he looked down with a pleased smile.
“Thanks, (Y/N).” He said in a soft voice. “Can I take this as a sign that you have feelings for me too?”
Nodding frantically, you whispered a noncommittal “mhm”.
“Can’t hear you, sweets,” Sero teased. “Come on, I’m gonna need a verbal confirmation.”
Looking up at him, you cleared your throat. “Yes.” You whispered in a slightly louder tone. “Yes, I h-have feelings for you too.”
At this admission, your friends all cheered, Mina hooting especially loudly. “Hells yeah!” She high-fived Kaminari. “We did it!”
“Best wingmen ever!” Kaminari shouted.
“That was so manly of you Sero!” Kirishima added, flashing a thumbs-up. “Congrats!”
“Tch. Yeah, whatever. Finally got it in their thick skulls that they liked each other. Big fucking deal,” Bakugou grumbled.
“Hey, hey! Don’t you go and ruin the mood now!” Mina scolded him. “Just look at them! They look so happy!” She pointed towards you and Sero.
“Hmph. Well, those idiots could’ve been happier sooner if Sero had the fucking balls to confess earlier.”
“Oh, shut it already! Just be glad that they’re finally together!”
“Like I care.”
“Stop pretending, you big grouch! We all know you care!”
“Tch.”

Hero Students Are (Supposed To Be) Nice
hi! this is a deleted scene from my fic “heroics and other things that don’t require superpowers” at the beginning of chapter six! if you like that fic, give it a read! if you’ve never read the fic, give it a read anyway and see if you wanna read more!
The sun was just starting to go down when Izuku and the rest of the students were deemed fit to go home. They had all been patched up by the medics; Izuku’s cuts had been cleaned and a large gauze pad had been taped over them. Uraraka was taken back to the main campus in an ambulance, but the others all rode back on the bus, to drop off their hero uniforms and collect their things. Izuku had all his things with him, but there was no talk of him going straight home from the USJ.
“We’re searching the surrounding area for stragglers, you’ll be safer heading back from the main campus,” Eraserhead told him, when he tried to duck out from under Kirishima’s arm.
“I’ll be fine,” Izuku said, but his distraction allowed Ashido to crowd in on his other side.
“You’re riding with us sweetie,” she said cheerfully, and between her and Kirishima they managed to drag him onto the bus without much trouble.
This time Izuku and Kacchan did not get on the same bus, and for that he was grateful. He expected the ride back to be a quiet affair, all of them being exhausted as they were, but no sooner had the bus started to move than Ashido put a hand on his shoulder. Izuku turned to her, to find her smiling gently but expectantly. He swallowed. He didn’t know what she expected of him.
“You doing alright Midoriya?” she asked, and he was surprised to find she sounded genuinely concerned.
“Fine,” he said on a reflex, but Ashido gave him a doubtful look. “I mean, not fine, but I’m OK. Nothing’s broken.”
“That’s not what she means,” Kirishima said from his other side.
Izuku turned to look at him instead, to be greeted with an equally concerned look. “What else could be-”
“She means are you too shaken up to walk home yourself, ribbit?” Tsu supplied, and Izuku looked over to see her sitting across from them, giving him the same worried look as Ashido and Kirishima. “One of us will walk with you if you don’t feel like being alone right now.”
“Oh, no, I wouldn’t ask you to do that!” Izuku said hurriedly. “I mean, it was scary, but-”
“Uraraka came from the same direction you did,” Kirishima said, drawing Izuku’s attention back to him. “She was defending the control room, right? She overused her quirk by a lot, so there must have been a lot of villains. One of them even took a swipe at you! Weren’t you scared?”
“I didn’t have room to be scared,” Izuku admitted. “Uraraka needed me, and she spent so much of her power defending me, I couldn’t just leave her out there to fight alone.”
There was a pause, and a few moments passed in which no one said anything. Izuku looked around the bus, at all the faces staring at him. Some of them looked alarmed, others worried, still more absolutely horrified. He shrank back in his seat, wondering what they were all thinking. Had he done something wrong? Had he insulted Uraraka to imply that she couldn’t have fought the villains on her own? Had he offended-
“You fought a villain yourself?” Kirishima demanded, sounding absolutely horror-struck.
Izuku’s head whipped around to look at him. “Only a few!” he said, then realized too late that he had admitted to fighting more than one. “Uraraka needed to rest, and there were a handful of them left, so I just went out and dealt with them myself.”
“Holy crap,” said Jirou, only to be elbowed in the ribs by Yaoyorozu, who had opted to ride their bus this time.
“What they’re trying to say,” Ashido piped up, making Izuku look back at her, “is that you fighting to protect Uraraka is really cool! We didn’t realize you could do that!”
“That’s pretty impressive Midoriya,” Kirishima added, his grin full of sharp teeth adding a certain emphasis to his claim. “Super manly!”
“Everybody did their best,” Izuku insisted, not really a protest but it at least soothed his need to apologize. “I was only trying to follow your examples.”
“Still, ribbit,” said Tsu, smiling at him with her tongue stuck out the corner of her mouth.
“Yeah,” Izuku replied, giving a shaky smile in return.
The rest of the ride passed similarly, with the hero students insisting he recount his fight with the villains for their appraisal. There wasn’t much to tell, so this eventually devolved into them all telling each other about their various fights, with Izuku chiming in every so often to confirm someone’s story. By the time they reached the school, Izuku was actually feeling a little bit better about the whole thing.
The ambulance was still out front when the buses pulled up, and there were a few people milling around outside. Izuku stepped out into the twilight with the idea of going to check on Uraraka, but before he had taken two steps toward the ambulance a warm body crashed into him from the side, and he found himself lifted nearly off his feet in a tight hug.
“Mido!” Shinsou cried, squeezing Izuku with all the muscle he’d developed over their brief time training together.
“Shinchan!” Izuku replied, trying not to make any distressed noises as his bandage was pressed on.
“Are you OK?” Shinsou demanded, pulling away from Izuku and holding him at arm’s length to give him a quick once over. “The heroes all left, and we were told to just go home, but they didn’t give us any information about what had happened and then an ambulance arrived and oh my god is that blood?!”
Izuku was turned abruptly to the side so Shinsou could jerk his shirt and jacket upward to examine the bandage. “I’m fine,” Izuku said, “the cuts aren’t deep. What are you doing here?”
“Waiting for you, green bean,” said a voice, and Izuku looked up to see Hatsume standing just behind where Shinsou had been, giving Izuku a look of deep anxiety. “You didn’t think we’d just leave without making sure you were alright, did you?”
“I hadn’t thought about it,” Izuku admitted, although now he did think about it, it made sense. He just wouldn’t have expected it, of anyone, where he was concerned.
“What happened?” Shinsou asked, a little calmer now but still tense and worried.
“We got attacked by a bunch of villains!” Kirishima said from behind Izuku, sounding a little bit too chipper about it.
Izuku suddenly realized they were blocking the door, and hurriedly towed Shinsou out of the way. Kirishima stepped out, looking curiously at Shinsou and Hatsume, and Shinsou turned to him with a look of wary confusion. Izuku grasped Shinsou by the arm of his uniform, hoping his friend wasn’t about to get mad again.
“Who’re your friends Midoriya?” asked Ashido, disembarking behind Kirishima.
“Oh!” Izuku gasped, attention finally drawn to the fact that he was the only one who knew everyone here. “These are my friends: Hitoshi Shinsou, from Gen Ed with me, and Mei Hatsume of the Support course.”
Hatsume gave a little wave. Shinsou still felt stiff as a board under Izuku’s hand, but he nodded slightly.
“Guys, this is Mina Ashido and Eijirou Kirishima, and Tsuyu Asui,” Izuku said as she came off the bus next.
“Call me Tsu,” she instructed cheerfully.
“They’re-“ Izuku considered, but he had no idea what exactly the hero students were to him. Were they friends? After less than a day? “They’ve been very nice to me.”
“Neat goggles,” Hatsume said, looking at Tsu’s headgear interestedly as she adjusted her own. She did not seem at all wary of the hero students, but Shinsou had not relaxed yet. He reminded Izuku of nothing so much as a wild animal caught in a cage.
Kirishima had apparently noticed too, because he focused his attention on Shinsou. “You should be proud of your friend,” he said, showing off his teeth in a bright, if slightly intimidating smile. “He was super brave.”
“He stayed to help us, and he probably got all of us out of there alive,” Ashido chimed in.
“It was really impressive, ribbit,” Tsu concluded.
Beneath his hand Izuku felt some of the tension ease, the shoulders loosening and the muscles relaxing somewhat.
“Doesn’t surprise me,” Shinsou said, putting his hands in his pockets. “Mido’s just like that.”
“Am not,” Izuku said, head ducked down.
“Are too,” said Shinsou and Hatsume at the same time.
Izuku felt his face heating up. It was one thing to be encouraged by his friends in private. It was another to be praised like that in front of hero students, who weren’t at all disagreeing.
Ashido smiled benevolently at Izuku. “You sure you don’t want someone to walk you home sweetie?”
“I can walk Mido home,” Shinsou told her.
“But a hero student should-“ Kirishima began worriedly.
“Shinchan’s going to be a hero student!” Izuku insisted, before Kirishima could finish. “He’s going to get in through the sports festival! He’s really skilled, and his quirk is-“
“Mido!” Shinsou hissed, and Izuku turned to see him looking determinedly at the ground, cheeks pink.
There was a pause, then Kirishima grinned again. “We’ll leave it to you then!” he said, reaching out and clapping Shinsou on the shoulder.
Shinsou stared, dumbfounded. Kirishima merely squeezed his shoulder, then turned and led the way back inside. Tsu followed without comment, and Ashido gave a little wave before going too.
“Hero students are nothing like I imagined,” said Shinsou, once he, Izuku and Hatsume were alone.
“Tell me about it,” Izuku sighed.

You couldn’t believe your eyes.
The city was nothing like you had expected it to be. The buildings were tall, their shadows casting darkness over the streets. And oh god, the noise. Cars were honking, and sirens were blaring, and people were yelling. So many people. All kinds of them walked the streets. Young, old, wealthy and hip, dirty and poor.
The lush green fields of your village seemed so far away now. It pained you to think of it, so you continued down the street. You and Jin were headed to the apartment he shared with relatives. Jin seemed to be in a hurry, getting quicker with every step, and you struggled to keep up with him.
You finally arrived at the apartment building when Jin led you through an alley on the side.
“What kind of entrance is this?” you scoffed at him.
He kept turning around and checking behind you every so often, a paranoid look in his eyes.
“Just come on,” he replied, pushing you through the entrance.
Looking at the dingy outside, you started to wonder how the inside of the apartment would look. You could only imagine how messy these guys were. Jin was never a very organized guy, but at least he could cook well.
It was three stairwells up to the apartment, and you could already hear men’s loud voices sounding through the door.
The door flung open, just before Jin was about to unlock it.
“Jin...” a young guy opened the door, his deep voice was cut off when he saw you standing there.
“Uh, Taehyung… This is Y/N.” Jin said awkwardly.
“Right… Hey,” Taehyung replied, smiling at you.
He moved to open the door and let you in. You were surprised to see the apartment was nicely decorated. And it smelled really good?
Then you saw there was a group of people waiting in the living room.
“Y/N!” a woman called cheerfully.
She jumped up from a chair, walking over to you. Then it hit you that it was your cousin-in-law, Mina. You were overjoyed and hugged her immediately. You had not seen her since you were a little girl.
“It’s been so long,” you sighed, taking a step back to look at her.
She seemed much older than when you had last seen her. The city had clearly aged her, wrinkles forming around her mouth and eyes, but it did not take away her beauty.
“I’ve missed you the whole time,” she replied as she patted your hair, looking into your eyes. “Come! Sit! I made an early dinner,” she said motioning everyone to follow her to the kitchen.
You scanned the living room, seeing that the rest of the group were young men around Jin’s age. Taecyeon, your cousin, and Mina’s husband was there as well. You noticed one of the guys was staring intensely into your eyes. His eyes were so round, and his jawline was insanely sharp. To put it lightly, he was stunning. His dark hair started to fall into his face, shielding his eyes. You couldn’t help but stare back until you realized he had looked away. Your attention was called back to the kitchen when your stomach growled at the enticing smell of Mina’s cooking.
Everyone grabbed a plate and made their way to the dining table. You took a seat between Mina and Jin and noticed two of the guys had stayed behind in the living room. Their voices were hushed, keeping the conversation between the two. You glanced over and noticed one of them was the one that had stared at you prior.
“Jungkook! Taecyeon! Come on, guys.” Mina yelled at them, disturbing their intense conversation.
They glanced at each other before making their way to the table.
“So… How are you guys doing? I’m sorry to hear about your Halmoni,” Taecyeon asked as he took a seat at the head of the table. He glanced over at you and Jin.
“Oh, she was the sweetest,” Mina said with a frown.
“Yeah… I don’t think we really feel like talking about it right now,” Jin said quietly, looking down at his plate.
The air in the room suddenly felt heavy as everyone glanced at you and Jin.
“Uh, great food Mina!” Taehyung said, breaking the silence.
Dinner went by quickly, and Mina showed you to the guest room. It was small and simple, but it was comfortable. She left you to unpack and get situated. Once you had finished, you started to make your way down the hall when you heard the guys arguing. You quickly stopped, trying to hear what they were saying.
“We can’t just do nothing! That’s one of our kids,” someone murmured.
“There’s only so much we can do,” Taecyeon replied.
“This is why I keep saying that we need to be more careful,” Jin argued in a low voice.
“No, I’m sick of having to watch our backs every goddamn minute,” one of them snarled, raising his voice.
A door swung open behind you, making you jump and breaking your concentration.
“Oh… Sorry,” Taehyung said, stepping out of the bathroom.
By the time you came out to the living room, everyone was getting ready to leave. What the hell had they been talking about?
“Where are you guys headed?” you asked toward Jin and Taecyeon.
“Oh… Uh, we’re just going out,” Jin said, glancing over at Mina.
What the hell? They were being so sketchy…
“Yeah, they go out a lot,” she laughed. “But come on, I want to visit with you,” she said as she pulled you back toward the living room.
You followed her, glancing back to the guys. You caught that same unknown guy staring at you again. What was that about?
“We’ll be back soon,” Taecyeon said, waving at you and Mina before they all left.
“Who’s that quiet one with the hair in his face?” you asked as soon as the door shut.
“You mean Jungkook?” she laughed, sitting back on the sofa next to me. “Don’t you remember my brother, Jungkook? You guys used to play together.”
“I thought your brother was a kid?” you asked confused.
You remembered Mina’s brother, but the last time you saw him, he was so… small…
“Well yeah, he is 18,” she chuckled.
“So, do all of them stay here?” you asked curiously.
“Just your brother, Taecyeon, and Jungkook. Taehyung is over quite a lot though,” she replied.
You had a weird feeling about the whole situation. You wished you could ask her why they were acting so suspicious, but you felt nosy.
“I think I’m going to get into bed. It was a long drive,” you said before hugging Mina and heading to your room.
You got in bed, but it was hard to fall asleep. You couldn’t help but wonder what the guys were doing. Where were they? And why didn’t they want to tell you? Did it have to do with their whispered conversation in the living room? Did Mina know what was going on? And why did her brother keep looking at you so strangely? You had a bad feeling about it all.

Gear Foxx- Chapter 7
Wisdom Teeth Suck!
I rubbed the end of my eraser on the desk. Today had gone from bad to worse as each class I had proved to be more lackluster than the last. To make matters worse, Mina was in none of them. Boredom crept slowly into my mind and spread into my face, causing my eyes to glaze over. I stared at the clock, watching as the seconds slowly ticked by. I was first out of the class at the bell.
“Okay,” I sighed, thinking to myself, “Math’s done, and so is English. That just means I have Physics and History left before the end of the day.” Thankfully, I had barely plopped myself down on my seat when none other than Mina came striding towards me.
“Hey Gear!” she said cheerfully, sitting next to me. It seemed that she was having a better day than I was. “Wow, that face says it all,” she continued, pulling out some books from her bag.
“At least we have one class together. Because so far, today has been so utterly and mind-numbingly bland that I’m surprised this place isn’t called Dullsville High,” I said, not even trying to hide my lack of interest in school.
“You just have to look at things positively! I can’t be your only friend, can I?”
I leaned back in my chair, glaring at the ceiling. “Suppose not,” I mumbled.
“Speaking of- Hey Sonic!” Mina exclaimed, eyes gleaming. I looked up to see Sonic stride in and sit on the other side of Mina.
“Hey guys, what’s shakin’?” he asked. He glanced around, apparently looking for something.
“What’s up?” I questioned, frowning.
“Huh? Well-,” he started, but was cut off as Bunnie came into the room, giving us a friendly greeting.
We barely had any more time to talk, because at that moment Nate Morgan walked into the room. After telling everyone to settle down and giving a brief introduction, class started. Unlike Math and English, it seemed that Physics had slightly evolved over the years, mostly due to the introduction of Magic Rings and Chaos Emeralds. While the class was called Physics, it seemed that the topics discussed were a bit broader, as Nate ended up going over Chemistry and Biology by the end of it. Before I knew it, class was over, and me and Mina headed off to history.
“Isn’t it awesome that Sonic is in the same class as us?” Mina asked me as we took a pit stop at our lockers.
“I guess. It’s not really that amazing. He’s just like everyone else in here, isn’t he?”
“Of course not! You know,” Mina leaned closer to my face, smiling, “I bet you're just jealous.”
“Jealous? Of what?” I said, confused.
“You want to be all famous like him, that’s why you stowed away in the Freedom Fighters plane when they went to The Hidden City!”
“Please,” I rolled my eyes, “The last thing I want is to be famous. I’m just saying that Sonic is as normal as everyone else in some respects.”
“Yeah, I get what you mean. When he isn’t trying to save the world, that is,” Mina said, staring into space for a moment.
“Earth-,” I coughed and restarted my sentence, “Mobius to Mina, come in Mina.”
Mina looked startled for a moment, glancing at me before turning away, “Huh? Oh, sorry!”
I was a little confused about her strange behavior, but now wasn’t the time to ask. “Come on, we’re going to be late for History if we stay here,” I said, starting to walk in the direction of the classroom.
“Hey, wait up!” Mina cried, rushing to catch up with me.
History was definitely more interesting than any other class I had had so far. I ended up sitting near the front of the room, next to a walrus Mina recognized.
“Hi Rotor!” she waved in greeting.
“Hey Mina. Who’s your friend?” he responded.
“This is Gear. Just watch out, he can be pretty sarcastic.”
“What, I can’t introduce myself?” I asked, disregarding her last comment.
Mina ignored me in turn, motioning to Rotor, “And this is Rotor, one of the Freedom Fighters.”
“Actually, I think Amy mentioned you. She said you were pretty good with machines,” Rotor said.
“Apparently, though now probably isn’t the best time to discuss that,” I replied, pointing to the teacher, who had just started speaking to the class.
The teacher got right into the day’s topic, not missing a beat. “Who has heard of the Days of Fury?”
My ears instantly shot up upon this statement. Most students shook their heads, and a few groaned in annoyance.
“C’mon, teach,” a rat from the back of the room moaned, “No one believes that junk!”
“Days of Fury? What’s that?” Mina asked, confused.
“I’ve heard of that. It was in that book I read back in Station Square,” I pondered out loud.
“What? You went to The Hidden City?” an antelope behind me exclaimed.
“No way, he’s lying!” the rat declared.
“Settle down, settle down,” the teacher said, smiling. She turned to me, her tail swishing back and forth, “You said you read it in a book there?”
“Uh…,” I mumbled nervously, weary of all the eyes looking in my direction, “Yeah, it was in a book in the city’s library. I was able to read most of it before the flood.”
The same rat spoke up again, plainly irritated. He got up from his chair, shouting, “You went to The Hidden City and you spent your entire time there in the library?”
It was my turn to be annoyed, and I turned to look back at him. “I thought you said you didn’t believe me,” I stated loudly. This shut him up, and I watched as he slumped back in his seat, defeated.
“And what did it say in this book?” the teacher asked.
“Well… not much that I understood. It said that the world was bombed by aliens, and in order to survive the people of The Hidden City hid themselves from the world. It’s the reason Station Square was built.”
“Is that true?” Mina raised her hand, asking the question at the same time.
The teacher looked around the room, glancing at each and every one of us, before shrugging her shoulders. “No one knows,” she said dryly, “But a few scholars believe it to be so. Rather than focus on whether it is true or not, today we are going to discuss why people believe it to be true.
“Thousands of years ago, just as your classmate has said, it is believed that an unknown alien race supposedly wiped out most if not all civilization from Mobius. Whatever happened caused volcanoes all around the globe to erupt, spreading ash and dust into the air. It was only after the dust cleared that life began to seep back into the planet. This was the time of the Mobosaurs. This was the first supposed Day of Fury.
“The second brought about the end to the Mobosaurs- the Coming of the Chaos Emeralds. Roughly ten thousand years ago, countless gems rained from the sky onto the Mobosaurs, wiping them out. No one is really quite sure where these gems came from, but they are still the emeralds that we know today… emeralds of unfathomable power, capable of bringing chaos and destruction, or hope and goodwill, with whoever it is that wields them.
“Now, the big question- is any of this true? Most scholars deny that anything of the sort has ever happened, and claim that many echidna tomes that detail such events are unfactual or purely religious belief. There are a few, however, that report that the Days of Fury have happened and even continue to happen to this day. I’d like you to turn your books to page twenty-two…”
The teacher continued her lecture, but I wasn’t paying attention. Before I realized it, class was over, and everyone started heading out. My mind was still in the clouds though. One thought above all circled around it- just where was I, and if I was in the future, how far?
The days started to shrink away as school continued. With continued nightmares haunting me every time I fell asleep, I started working the night shift for construction. I gave myself two days a week for a full night's rest, at which point I was so tired I passed out upon the jump into bed. Even then, it was hard to stay focused most of the time, which led me to stare blankly into space as Nate described how Magic Rings worked.
“Magic Rings, or Power Rings as some call them, were originally created as a clean alternative to fossil fuels. They are a byproduct of Chaos Emeralds, and while they only wield a fraction of their power, they are a more powerful source of energy than any other normal energy supply. Rings can be used in many different ways, and different rings possess different properties. Some notable examples would be the Ring of Acorns that I had fashioned using one of the Super Emeralds, or Sonic’s one billionth ring.”
I turned blankly to look at Sonic. In one swift motion that no one else seemed to catch, I saw him pass Mina a note. Mina carefully opened it up to view his message, then folded it back and stuffed it in her pocket. Before I could figure out what was going on, an announcement came over the intercom.
“Gear Foxx to the principal’s office, Gear Foxx to the principal’s office,” the speaker rang.
Slightly confused, I left class, picking up my homework on the way. I walked into the office, where the principal, a skunk, and a cat in combat gear were waiting.
“Uh… am I in trouble or something?” I asked, setting my bag down.
“Oh, by no means my dear boy!” the principal joyously cried, laughing, “But these fellows from the Royal Secret Service have come to ask you a few questions!”
“Thank you, that will do,” said the skunk, ushering the principal out of the room.
“Not much of a secret if he knows about it, huh?” I said after he left.
“Save the sarcasm, boy,” the skunk commanded, walking back and forth, “I want to know why General Kodos was lying outside of the hospital without anyone noticing him enter Knothole.”
“Uh… who?” I asked, tilting my head in confusion. Not only was the question completely random and unexpected, but the name didn’t ring any bells whatsoever, even with lingering knowledge of certain events and places.
The skunk slammed his fist on the table. “Don’t play coy with me, boy!” he shouted, “Your house is closest to the Great Forest, you must have seen something, and I want to know what it is!”
I sighed and narrowed my eyes at this, too tired to even want to know what he was getting at. Still, I looked at the cat, trying to get some explanation as to why this guy was up in my face.
She looked between me and her friend for a moment, before speaking up, “Geoffrey, I don’t think he knows anything.”
“And even if I knew what the heck you were talking about, I certainly wouldn’t share with that attitude.”
Geoffrey’s face twitched at this, and it seemed like he was about to say something else, but his partner stopped him.
“So you’ve never heard of the general?” she asked.
“Nope, and since I work at the construction site most nights, I wouldn’t have noticed anything either,” I shrugged, “I’m, uh… new to town, I guess you could say. I don’t even know what a General KooKoo is.”
At that moment, the bell rang. I heard a multitude of students start walking up and down the halls, but I also heard something else. It was distinct from the sounds of shoes roaming the halls, the banging of lockers, or the constant, untranslatable chatter. It sounded like a metallic clanging, almost.
“Well... Gear, was it? Thank you for your time-,” the cat started saying.
I cut her off, rising from my chair, “Hey, do you feel that?”
“Feel what?” Geoffrey asked, still annoyed, “All the students clomping down the hall?”
“No, it’s something else… like-”
Suddenly, a terrible crashing noise sounded throughout the building. Geoffrey and his friend looked at each other in a panic.
“That came from the second floor,” the cat said frantically.
“Third,” I corrected, my ears twitching.
“Stay here, we’ll handle this. C’mon, Hersey!” Geoffrey bolted out the door, his cat friend Hersey at his tail. I stood still for a few moments before sighing.
“Guess that means History is canceled now… I was looking forward to hearing about the Great War…” I quickly left the room to find Mina.
“Ugh… how are you so good at this?”
“It’s math, not rocket science. Pretty much everything we’re doing has basic rules we have to follow in order to find the answer.”
“Thanks for making me feel worse,” Mina pouted.
It had been a few days since the robot attack (which, thankfully, no one was hurt in), and me and Mina were trying to catch up on homework. Well, Mina was- I had already finished mine, and I was now trying to help Mina with hers. It was one of my free days, and even though I was exhausted, I still couldn’t sleep, so when Mina asked for help, I obliged. We ended up trying to solve equations outside my house, next to the brook. The crisp night air bit at my ears as I looked over her math.
“Here’s the problem,” I declared, pointing at the paper with the end of a pencil, “you forgot to re-add the negative sign right here.”
“Aw man…,” Mina sighed, taking back the sheet, “How am I supposed to remember all these rules?”
“Don’t look at me. I’m not in charge of what you remember and what you don't.”
As Mina returned back to her problem, the air soon filled with the sound of scribbling and erasing. It was only then that I realized something was wrong.
“Quiet,” I ordered, looking around.
“I didn’t say anything, Ge-”
I cut Mina’s sentence off by slapping a hand in front of her mouth. I strained my ears, listening for the slightest noise.
“Do you hear that?” I asked hesitantly.
“I don’t hear anything!” Mina said angrily, shoving my hand away from her face.
“Exactly. It’s dead silent. Not so much as a cricket chirp. It’s like the world is holding its breath.”
“Gear… Look up.”
I shifted my gaze to the heavens. Stars twinkled in the sky, dancing around each other with grace and elegance. Shining brighter than the rest of the stars was the moon.
And coming towards the moon at a high velocity was a green laser beam, streaking through space like it was a fish in water. It slammed into the moon, shattering it upon impact. We watched in awe and fear as half the moon suddenly ceased to exist. We sat in stunned silence for a while, not able to process what we had just seen. It was Mina who spoke first.
“Eggman… It had to have been him.”
I growled in agreement, “Yeah, it was Robotnik alright. The man wanted our attention, and now he’s got it.”
“What should we do?” Mina asked.
“For now? Leave it to the professionals- Sonic. But if Robotnik went out of his way to destroy half the moon, then that means we better be ready in the future too.”
“To do what?”
I paused, looking at the pure destruction in the sky. “To fight,” I said in no uncertain terms.
