@theharlequinlady I haven't read the books in nearly a decade, but I remember rage sobbing at the movie and it's made me skittish to try out the TV show or even do a reread

I just did a reread of the first couple and honestly I still love them (1-3 were always my favorites) but I'm very much a rereader.

The show you really have to go into with the awareness and understanding that it is basically just like a weird very canon-divergent AU of the books. They've made a ton of changes, some of them very major. Also the accents are extremely weird and I wholeheartedly disagree with every choice they've made there.

That said, I'm definitely enjoying watching it.

Non-spoiler take on the first four episodes of the new Vampire Academy TV show:

They have made a lot of Choices of varying degrees of good

The combination of accents is distractingly weird and doesn't really make much logical sense

Rose and Dimitri have surprisingly good chemistry, and they've shifted the power dynamics enough to make it less creepy

They've compressed/condensed/combined the timing a lot, which makes it sort of odd to watch when I know what happens in the books

I would probably like this a lot more if I hadn't read the books, but it's actually quite entertaining

I have two series that I'm writing, both very different from each other. Both have eminence character details and one has a complex world complete with history and its own folklore. There's still much to do but I have the base all set up, as well as a time line for all major events. The Problem? There are no real conflicts in either series. There's some minor 'villains' but no over all danger. I don't know where they'd even fit into the story. I feel that my stories are boring. What do I do?

Conflict is in character. Figure out your characters goals, needs, and wants, and then throw everything you've got at them to keep them from getting it. Are they relatively happy? Ruin everything. Do they live in a happy town? Have a dragon blow it up. If there's no problem, create them, and then see what your characters do.

Worldbuilding is great and wonderful, but your readers need reasons to actually explore your worldbuilding, and following your characters as they try to reach their goals is the perfect way to do that. If there's no danger, create it. While there's arguments out there that you don't need conflict, most readers will be looking for it, and you'll have trouble hooking people into your world without here. Yea.. NOT HAPPY
