Fun fact: the Crown's character arc in AToC is very inspired by The Twelve Kingdoms in terms of their development as a ruler. It's a slow burn, but the realism and characterization in The Twelve Kingdoms is one of my favorite things about it. I never had the pleasure of reading the novels, but I would highly recommend checking out the anime!
