you don't know what else to say when you hear him slide open your window.

"ew."

"a pleasure to see you too, doll," he mutters in amusement, slipping off his shoes and leaving them on the ledge. "and here i was hoping you'd miss me."

"not in your wildest dreams." like clockwork, he makes to climb under the covers with you but you stop him with a sleepy but firm shake of your head. he gives you a look like you'd just told him to jump off a building.

"you serious?"

"shower first, then you can come in here."

"c'mon, sweetheart. i'm exhausted," he drawls and you nearly break, trying your hardest to glare at those stupidly bright eyes and infuriatingly soft smile. "let a man rest a little, yeah?"

"nope." you flip over to your other side as he scoffs at your back. when he believes you're asleep again, quiet footsteps creep toward the space beside you and the mattress sinks with the weight of his leg carefully positioning itself by yours. "shower or i'll freeze your balls off," you growl half-heartedly, very much still awake. he's not deterred in the slightest.

"you wouldn't dare." an arm drapes possessively over your lower torso and you fight the instinct to melt into him.

"wanna find out, hothead?" he clicks his tongue and lightly squeezes your hip. he was trying all his tricks tonight, but you'd learned how to pretend to be immune. "touya."

"mmm?"

"shower, please."

"the things i do for you," he murmurs in defeat, pressing a quick kiss to the top of your head before sulking off to the bathroom. you drift in and out of sleep during the time he's gone, vaguely registering the sound of the pipes creaking and the smell of his body wash. before you know it, the noise of the hair dryer ceases and your bedroom door creaks open again. this time, when he slips into the blankets with you, you don't protest as he pulls you flush against his body, your back against his chest. his chin finds the junction of your shoulder and his hair tickles the back of your neck. his warm breath exhales deeply against your skin. "you smell like me."

"ran out of shampoo," you lie and you can feel his mouth curl into an arrogant smirk. "and there's no way in hell i'm using twice's."

"it's okay to just admit that you miss me, baby," he teases and you roll your eyes. "say that you were sad and be done with it."

"go to hell," you grunt and you feel his chuckle over your body. after you finally drift off again, you turn to bury your face in his neck. his arms secure themselves around your body and you barely need the blanket anymore from how warm he naturally runs. he hums in contentment, bathing in the way that you didn't see him as the monster the rest of society did. he'd rather die than be a danger to you, to have you fear him in a way where he couldn't hold you closer when you needed him. he loved your biting tongue and your razor-sharp wit, but he also loved how you trusted him to protect you while you rested. he was safe for you.

and, even if he never admitted it aloud, you were safety for him, too.

Do you have any romantic headcanons or headcanons in general for dirk, maul and reven? Dovovan can be added into the mix too! Just curious on those three since we've only seen how they interact with somebody who they are fighting against, being soulmates with their boss and joining the team. :o so curious on how they would do with somebody they fall for.

Oh boy, oh boy, do I?! So, I'm actually gonna just spitball some general headcanons as well because I love these guys and need to write for them!

The Dark Fortress: Headcanons

Dirk

- He's a really crass kind of person. You've never heard so many different ways to curse before meeting him and most of the time, you have no idea what half of what he says even means. He's also loud, obnoxious, and endlessly flirtatious towards anyone remotely attractive in his eyes. No one is safe, even those in commited relationships, but his advances aren't ever serious. Well, except for when they are.

- He struggles to feel much of anything most days. Which is why he acts the way he does most of the time. He needs stimulation. He needs to stay busy. He needs to interact with people or he'll go crazy. Depending what phase his soul is at the moment also impacts how he responds to people. He doesn't really like talking about his soul though.

- Despite what you might think, and what he insists, he's not from high society. He had very simple beginnings, think a farmer or something to do with physical labour, but he never talks about his childhood. If it ever comes up, he gets deathly quiet and withdrawn. You get the sense that whatever actually happened to him was pretty bad if the guy who never shuts up suddenly refuses to talk.

- He doesn't really talk about anything before he joined up with the band of brigands actually. He likes to boast about all the heists he took part in and how much he made from them. He doesn't talk about what happened to cause him to snap completely and kill the people he used to call brothers, but considering how much he values loyalty, you suspect it's somehow related.

- He's a huge flirt but somewhat surprisingly, he won't pressure you into anything that you aren't comfortable with. If you clearly tell him to stop, he will, no questions asked. He mostly flirts for his own amusement since he finds other people's reactions incredibly funny. He does get up to his own escapades whenever the opportunity presents itself, which isn't as often anymore now that he works for Donovan.

- As for how he'd react towards something more long term? You'd think a guy with a penchant for messing around and flirting with anything that breaths might be a poor choice in a partner. His unyielding loyalty means that he'll be there for you through anything and everything, providing you do the same for him. He's your ride or die, but woe to anyone foolish enough to betray his loyalty.

- With Dirk as a partner, you will never be bored as he won't allow it. He struggles with any type of emotion that isn't passion or violence, but once you become close with him, you'll begin to see an entirely different person.

- Dirk is oddly sweet when he's alone with you. He loves snuggling, usually he'll insist on being the big spoon, and will often find excuses to stay in bed with you. He's a physical touch kind of person already, generally giving it, but he would love it if you did the same for him.

- He's really good at giving compliments and if you're feeling down, he's quick to try and cheer you up. You're his rock and if you're sad, he's gonna be sad and neither of you want to see that.

- He's still a really dangerous person though, even with all his obnoxiousness and flirting. No matter how long you're in a relationship, he's still scared of accidentally hurting you. Oddly enough, being around you does calm him down if he's worked up, so unless he's in an actually dangerous state of mind, you might get shoved into the same room as him if any of the others need him to calm down quickly.

- While he enjoys killing people for the chance to get more EXP, Dirk has a couple of more "normal" hobbies. He likes to "collect" weapons and cool looking armour, even if he won't actually use most of them. He just likes having dangerous and shiny things. He also likes animals, especially cats, but most animals don't do well around the corruption from the dark fortress. If you somehow find him a pet that can survive, you'll be his best friend for a while.

- He knows how to properly use most types of weapons, even some obscure ones, but he prefers a dagger since it's easier to sneak into places he's not supposed to have weapons. He's totally the type to have multiple knives hidden on his person at all times, sometimes even while sleeping.

Maul

- If Dirk is the loudest and most energetic, Maul is the quietest and generally the calmest. He speaks pretty much only when spoken to and when the question can't be answered with a simple yes or no. Even then, he keeps his answers brief and moves on to whatever he was already doing before being interrupted. This changes when he realizes that he likes you though.

- Maul generally keeps to himself when Donovan doesn't have need of him. He's basically a brick wall most of the time anyways, but he does show some emotions at times. This is mostly the occasional grin, raising a bonebrow, or frowning if he's annoyed. It's rare for him to emote since he doesn't want people to know what he's thinking, but occasionally he'll catch himself reacting to something genuinely funny or express some of his frustrations.

- Maul mostly spends his free time doing chores like sharpening his greataxe, maintaining his gear and armour, or working on his hobbies. He enjoys cooking, especially baking, and often is the one in charge of meals. Except for maybe Donovan, who is at least competent in the kitchen, he's the only one who can cook well. Maul also likes taking care of animals or gardening, although it's harder to do either of those now that he's staying in the dark fortress.

- He doesn't talk about himself, at all. If you can somehow start a conversation with him, he'll talk about literally anything else but his past or the things he's done. Just be patient, as his idea of a conversation is letting you do the bulk of the talking while he listens, usually while doing something else, and occasionally answering with grunts or one word answers.

- The thing is, while Dirk is immediately up front if he likes you, Maul isn't really, at least not to any outside observers. He's just doing normal things that anyone would do for others, right? He'll randomly make foods you like, bring you something to drink or eat if you've been busy for a while, and come see you just to "hang out". To the others, it's very, very obvious that he likes you as he pretty much ignores them most of the time, but you might have a more difficult time figuring it out.

- He even starts to engage with you about topics he's knowledgeable on. He knows exactly how to sharpen any weapon or tool and while he may not have as much martial knowledge as Reven, he could probably still teach you a thing or two about throwing your weight around in battle. He doesn't do sneaky or small weapons though so if you want tips, you're fresh out of luck with him.

- He'd love it if you joined in on whatever he's working on. Making food for others is one of his ways of showing he cares, so to do it with a partner is a great way to bond with him. You'll get bonus points if you have experience cooking/baking already, especially if you've memorized recipes or have made up some of your own.

- Maybe when you get really close, he might let you in on his backstory, although it'll take a while to put together all the pieces since he isn't gonna sit you down and explain everything at once. Instead you'll get little comments here and there randomly like how he learned to get meat to stretch as far as possible or how much he despises tyrants. He definitely didn't come from wealth but it's hard to tell if he had a simple upbringing like Dirk or if he was enlisted into military service at a young age. He doesn't care how anyone perceives him anymore but he struggles with believing that anyone could find him anything but scary.

- His head injury has impacted his memory and changed a lot about how he processes emotions and approaches situations. He sometimes takes a bit to respond to questions but at least combat still comes as naturally to him as breathing does. He's much more patient as a result and takes his time doing tasks so they're done correctly the first time.

- He's a very doting lover. All he wants is to have a calm, relaxed life without having to fight for survival each day. If he had his way, you wouldn't have to lift a finger for anything. Things like breakfast in bed and cuddles in the evening by a fireplace are a regular occurrence. He also loves physical touch, both giving and especially receiving, but his larger size makes it a bit difficult for him to be the small spoon while cuddling.

- He's also majorly protective, almost like a guard dog. If he thinks someone's bothering you, he'll come up to you, wrap his arms around you, and frown at them. To you, he doesn't look that scary, but to anyone else outside the dark fortress, he's downright terrifying. He's not above growling at people if they don't get the message but unless you're in an actually dangerous situation, he's more likely to pick you up and leave than actually start a fight. Not that it would be much of a fight for him, but he doesn't enjoy needlessly killing people, especially in front of you.

- He experiences nightmares and zoning out fairly often. He's been through a lot before joining Donovan, including a coup that overthrew the monarchy which resulted in a famine and caused many citizens to suffer. He stood by as people starved and did nothing but follow orders like a good soldier should. It took his own brother attempting to stand up to the tyrannical general for him to act. In the resulting conflict, he was mortally injured although he survived. The head injury left him with a memory gap so that he isn't certain who walked away from the fight or who was dusted. He doesn't even know if his brother made it out or not.

Reven

- Reven is somewhere in the middle, although he tends to be a bit more quiet rather than chatty like Dirk. He generally likes to sit back and observe the situation before injecting himself. He's a schemer by nature and thanks to his incredible observation skills, he often notices details that others won't. If he's approaching you to talk before you have a chance to approach him, it's likely because he thinks he can get something from you.

- He's prone to random outbursts of laughter, especially if the room has been quiet for a while. If asked what's so funny, he usually attempts to brush the question off by claiming that you wouldn't get it. He's aware that it probably makes him look insane but it's the truth.

- He won't readily admit it but he hears the voice of his dead brother constantly as he's haunted by him. It's unclear if it's actually his brother's soul or just a figment of his insanity, but Reven fully believes that he literally has his brother haunting him. While his brother normally has murderous tendencies, if that behaviour isn't directed towards you, then Reven is gonna pay extra close attention.

- You catch him staring a lot, like a lot, a lot. His face is almost always hidden by his hood but you can usually still see his eyelights and feel the intensity of his gaze. Even when you catch a glimpse of his face, it's like he's wearing a mask. His expression rarely changes but when it does, he tends to grin with unknown glee or glare at whatever has irritated him in the moment.

- It often takes a lot to make Reven actually angry, but when something tips him over the edge, you better hope there's nothing particularly valuable or fragile nearby. He wouldn't dream of actually hurting you but there isn't any guarantee that you won't get caught in the crossfire. Most of the time, Dirk is the target of his anger but he likes to purposely rile Reven up when he's bored, which is fairly often.

- It's true that Reven used to be a paladin before snapping. He and his brother were raised in a dusty backwater kingdom that has since collapsed but when they were young, they decided to join a holy order to defend those who couldn't defend themselves. They were brave and noble paladins until disaster struck of course.

- Reven doesn't talk about what actually caused him to snap. It's possible that he was responsible for his brother's death and doesn't know it, or he is very much aware and just refuses to even think about it. Either way, he abandoned the order after this and eventually his insanity led him to become the serial killer responsible for the Crimson Stabbings. His obsessive nature led him to never actually be caught, although he was spotted often enough to become known for his red cuirass.

- He occasionally gets the itch for more EXP and will look for opportunities to kill again, for this reason he isn't usually left alone on stealth missions. He's good at what he does though and with the proper motivation, will complete any mission perfectly without anyone even knowing he was there.

- His obsessive nature can lead to concerning situations, especially if you haven't figured out that he likes you yet. You'll start receiving gifts from an unknown admirer that are very obviously tailored to your preferences. Sometimes you even get the feeling of being watched but there's never anyone there. Hopefully, you already know him before he makes a confession of love and hopefully you accept his affections. Otherwise, well, he doesn't do well with rejection and there's no telling what he'll do.

- He's really sweet when you're in a relationship though. He enjoys spoiling you with little gifts and lives for your gratitude since it makes him feel oddly fuzzy inside. He's also super cuddly and will find any excuse just to sit with his skull on your shoulder and arms around your waist. He also likes PDA and will shamelessly hold your hand in front of others. He may not actually kiss you in public but if he does, it's probably because he thinks it'll upset someone or make you embarrassed, which he thinks is really adorable.

- It goes without saying that his mental state is unstable but just be patient with him. If he's having a bad day, give him some space to calm down but if you approach him later on, he'd love it if you comforted him. You'll probably get confined to the couch with him holding onto you. He's not that heavy as he's a skeleton but it's a bit difficult to move around with a whole person hanging off of you. Best to wait it out.

Donovan

- Donovan is an interesting case. He claims that he can't feel emotions beyond negative ones, which is technically true. Once he finds his soulmate though, he starts to question everything that he knows about himself. While he isn't the person he used to be anymore, maybe there's a semblance of his old self still there?

- No matter how much you look or how many people you ask, there is no information on him. It's as if he just popped into existence or something. He's not exactly one to talk about the past either, which seems to be a running theme by now, but maybe someday he'll tell you what happened to him. He wasn't always covered in corruption or had tentacles protruding from his back after all.

- He's really not a nice person and while he's generally very patient and reserved, even his patience has limits. He tries not to get upset at you but there are times when he inevitably snaps and says something he shouldn't. He usually regrets it immediately afterwards but sometimes he won't notice how upset you are for a few hours.

- Most of the time, he acts cold towards you and the boys but he does care in his own way. He makes sure you have anything you could need to survive and be happy as he struggles with anything more. He's fiercely protective of those he calls his own, which may come as a bit of a surprise at times, but he really does consider you and the boys as his "family".

- He has no patience for foolishness or people trying to deceive him. This is why he might lash out at people and harshly punish those who wrong him. Of course, he's also rather selfish and isn't above just taking what he wants. He very much sees himself as a god and everyone else as being below him.

- He has genuinely sweet moments, although these are strictly reserved for his soulmate. Something about the closeness with an uncorrupted soul seems to almost "heal" his own very damaged one. Maybe there's hope for him after all?

- He's actually a little shy about PDA, although he doesn't mind holding onto you if he can excuse it away with being protective but behind closed doors it's an entirely different story. He loves touching you. He loves how warm your body is, how soft you are, and especially the little noises you make when he touches a ticklish or sensitive spot. He's super mindful of his claws and his own physical strength as he wouldn't be able to live with himself if he seriously hurt you.

- He will gladly snuggle with you and will often drag you into bed if you're taking too long for his liking. He wouldn't force you to do anything you aren't comfortable with but you may have to get firm with him if he's distracted and not listening. His tentacles are basically an extension of his own body and mean he has an even easier time hanging onto you. If anything, he prefers to touch you with them since they are soft and squishy, as well as cool to the touch.

- He was very lonely before the boys and you especially came along. He collected them because their souls ooze negativity and he enjoys having an easy source of it nearby. He also wanted to have henchmen to facilitate his own plans and spreading more negativity. Over time though, he's come to kind of see them as his own and not just pawns. It's an unconventional arrangement at best though and they butt heads a ton, but he's provided a place for the destitute, the lost, and the vagabonds to stay.

- When you've earned his trust and been together for a while, you'll learn about who he used to be and where he's from. This could be through an ancient book that he keeps locked away for safekeeping or through bits and pieces of what he tells you. However, you learn a few things such as how he was once a prince of a lost kingdom, had a twin brother, and barely survived an assassination attempt.

- There was a massive tree at the center of his kingdom which bore two kinds of magic fruit. It was rumoured that if you ate one, you would gain knowledge beyond all measure and the power to defeat all foes. The fruit also had the power to influence your emotions but this wasn't of much interest for those who lusted after them. Donovan ate all of the negative fruit in an attempt to survive a mortal injury and protect the tree. However, he was overwhelmed by the power and failed.

- He aimlessly wandered the world for many years before he grew into his powers and decided to make a move to create his own kingdom. This is why he created the dark fortress and collected the boys. At the moment, his goal is to spread the corruption and his influence, but contrary to what some may think, he isn't all powerful. There are many powerful people out there who may take issue with him if they heard about everything he's done.

Curious to know your feels about the 1000 Years Old finale. You didn't post much about it. Maybe that's a commentary in and of itself LOL.

Part of the answer is that I struggle with watching things out of my usual schedule and had a very busy weekend so I'm just getting around to actually watching the finale episode after knowing all kinds of spoilers. I am actively writing this response as I watch the episode. So enjoy my live thoughts on your ask.

And, so far, my entire reaction is that they crammed way too much here in the end. They needed to spread this out more than they did and I get parts of it, I like having the soulmates reveal only at the very end...

But there's a lot of plot and seriousness that they just didn't touch on enough and that I think including in the rest of the show would have improved it greatly as well as helping with the pacing struggling most people had.

If more of the Janja plot had been genuinely spread through the show and more of these serious moments and the understanding of their agreement and relationship had started earlier I might care more about this. But I don't care about Janja at all! I just don't! I wasn't given reasons to care until the very end and that's not enough for me.

Also, having Yoh not fight for any of it really did disappoint me but the director of this show, as seen in multiple other shows they've done, seems to have a thing for one very passive character in the main relationship who will just Allow Things To Happen To Them without ever fighting back. And I never like that, frankly.

Yes, they dropped a few hints here and there but it just isn't enough to tie it all together in this show itself.

It's not a bad finale, it's not the worst, but the end of the show feels so rushed compared to the rest and us not getting all the fluffy times together only to be shown a single scene at the end of a long happy life instead of the time together that I want to see.

I like domesticity, not the end of domesticity.

I get why people liked this ending. I see how people who rewatch things, especially, will enjoy the recontextualization of the show.

But for me? It made everything feel rushed and the rest of the show feel almost empty and slightly worse in comparison. Either we needed more plot or less episodes for this to work.

(Every time I see Somchai I am sad we did not get Somchai and Shin. Every single time. Come on. You crammed this much into the final episode, you could have given me more of them somewhere else!)

Also, I love his random bodyguards, whoever they are. Love them.

Also, this year long time skip is stupid.

Seriously, I am deeply frustrated by Yoh literally finding out they're soulmates and then just... completely abandoning Pun and leaving entirely. It's not interesting to see him just give up and it makes him the most passive character ever. Which we also had in I Will Knock You and, frankly, in 2gether. That's just The Style.

JANJA LITERALLY TOLD YOH SHE WAS GIVING HIM PUN BECAUSE PUN WILL NEVER LOVE ANYONE ELSE. Whatever, at least the confession and whole thing is done and now they can be soulmates together.

9 minutes of happy ending is not enough. Absolutely not enough. Yes, it was cute. Yes, it was a happy ending. But it's just not enough and it leaves me wanting more and wishing that the show were paced differently.

(Still sad we couldn't get any more Somchai and Shin, we deserved more.)

Edit Okay, I didn't mention this originally but I actually hate that the soulmate/reincarnation line takes away the power of Yoh's gift to Pun being his first birthday present. It really bothers me because that moment was one of the my favorite moments and the finale just made it not matter at all and turned it into something much less important and takes away a lot of the importance away of Pun wearing the cross and it BOTHERS ME A LOT.

I assume you mean fics and I have quite a list actually, but here's a few of my favorites

● Paradise (spread out with a butter knife) by Sarah_Sandwich. This one is kind of soulmate au and I usually don't like those but believe me, this is a masterpiece. It has the whole roommates situation and them being idiots and completely oblivious. Anyways, love it.

● Petey and Wade discuss the proper way to go about vigilantism (and maybe they fall in love too) by isaDanCurtisproduction. I love Peter's characterisation in this. Also, identity porn. And it's revealed in such a creative way too! Honestly, as far as I remember this one doesn't have any angst or anything, just an amazing story of Peter and Wade bonding and falling in love.

● you grow up and you lose touch by scarlett_starlett. In this one Peter and Wade raise a baby Miles. I remember seeing it a few times and never reading but once I did I was amazed. The domestic fluff is gold. If you want to see Peter and Wade struggling to take care of a child while falling in love in the meantime, this is for you.

● I'm Not That Good at Breathing In by Celebrate_the_irony. Look, all I'm going to say is this. Fake dating. (And it's done so well! The humor is just like it needs to be)

● Half Your Age (Plus Seven) by fancastical. I can't explain it, I just love this one. The author is great at writing dialoge which sounds very natural and funny. Like I love the world they created and honestly would read so much more of specifically this Peter and Wade.

● mariposa by BucketofWater. Wade tries to seduce Peter while using a wiki-how article and it's the most amazing thing ever. It's so funny but at the same time has some great serious scenes and is overall a masterpiece. A must read in my humble opinion.

● The Only One by rupertgayes. In this one Wade is hired to spy on Peter and Peter, being the little shit he is, starts talking to him, knowing Wade's mission, just to mess with him. Of course it doesn't turn out like he would think. I have a lot of love for this one, the concept itself is amazing.

Just some thoughts on Bravern so far...

I'm on Episode 6 of Bravern and I kinda like it, but I also kinda don't. I have a lot of mixed feelings on it, especially in regards to the character Lulu and how the series chose to introduce her character and her role thus far in the series (I'm not a fan of how they introduced her character with sexual aspects going on - the misconception that Smith was engaging in sex with her - and then now they are going a sort of childish and infantile route with her...It's just...kinda weird and creepy, but not in the usual way). I'm glad with how they've been NOT doing some things with her character (her role with Smith after her introduction hasn't been sexualized since, thank goodness), but the character archetype that they are going with her character so far is also one that I'm not really a fan of for reasons involving issues I have with some aspects of moe and whatnot.

Lulu is very cute though, and I actually really love the diversity in the female characters and their personalities!

I'm also not really a fan of love at first sight and soulmate stuff, so a lot of the Isami and Bravern moments, while humorous in some ways (though also a bit uncomfortable in some ways for me, because I feel like there are some slight consent issues going on) don't really emotionally connect at all either.

The storyline itself also seems kinda all over the place. Like, there is a consistent goal in the series so far, but I feel like a lot of the scenes don't really flow into each other as smoothly as they could or should, so it feels like things are just happening. There is a bit of a tonal whiplash too, due to the random bits of English that get thrown around, sometimes in grave or serious situations, that kind of just throw me for an unexpected loop. It makes me wonder if this is a series that I might like a bit more (in that regards) dubbed rather than subbed.

The character designs lean a bit too into bara (gei-comic) style for me personally (like, Tiger & Bunny character designs are my limit, and like Antonio's design is too much for me in that regards, though I adore his character - I tend to be more of a bishonen fan), but I do LOVE all of the gay subtext and text that is literally everywhere. The ED also is a thing of beauty, lmao. I also think this series does comedy extremely well.

I'm also just really intrigued by how things will go and play out and just how far the gay stuff will actually be pushed (I've seen a clip for a moment later on, so I have some general idea, but I want to see just how far it really goes). It's also nice to see anime original series just pushing boundaries and doing some different things. That's what they are there for.

I'm also open to seeing how things evolve and change with the series (some of the issues that I have might actually get addressed or flip around for me in a later episode). I'm not hooked on the series. It hasn't grabbed me in the same way as Buddy Daddies or Tiger & Bunny did, but I'm still interested and will still continue watching.

Anyway, those are just my thoughts on this series so far. I'm probably going to do a write up after I finish it as well.

I’d like to toss my hat into the ring since that anon brought up AUS. I don’t have any favorites or enjoyment of a lot of them, So here’s a sort list I can think off;

1. A/B/O: It’s just very, very, uncomfortable.

2. Crossovers: 80 or 90% of the time when there’s crossovers, it’s just crossing over for the sake of having your fav characters meet and get up to crazy adventures. There’s no actual reason as to why there crossing over apart from that.

3. mafia: Not a fan as there’s nothing different, but there’s a Mob AU by Clownn (correct me if I spell it wrong,), they put a unique twist by having it be physiological and giving it certain traits to make their AU stand out from the usual Mafia AUs.

4: anesthesia: It’s a pretty cheap way to get characters to fall in love and kinda creepy when you think deeper about how easily bad things can go.

5. Soulmates or Marks: I don’t like the idea of a mark or something telling you who your partner is or who to be with. What if you don’t want a partner tho or not interested in falling in love? Are you allowed to be just friends instead?

I prefer if authors/creators add more unique twist or additional spin on AUs. The down side is, I have seen some pretty unique AUs but they’re not as talked about or popular since it’s not the go to ones that fanbases love.

Ah yeah, A/B/O AUs tend to romanticize toxic relationships a lot from what I usually see. Not liking it is understandable. Ironically though, the whole Alpha, Beta, and Omega stuff that was made by a researcher later discarded his own theory after further study of wolves. (In short, wolves are just large families with mom and dad in charge, the whole A/B/O stuff makes no sense.) So the whole thing is really just made up of disproved theories and is purely fiction.

The others are also understandable. Some of the AUs tend to have repeating themes or they end up being complete copies of each other. The Whole amnesia one is creepy, yeah. I have only ever read 3 fanfictions in my life that did this trope properly and it only really works if the characters knew each other beforehand or they were already in a relationship before it happened.

The soulmate one is kind of okay depending on who is writing it and how it is written. I've seen a handful of very well written soulmate AUs that actually got creative with it, but a lot of the fanfictions for AUs like that just repeat and copy each other a little too much.

To be perfectly honest, I agree that unique AUs are way better because it leaves room for even more AUs to branch off of those one and it also helps other writers get a good idea on how to handle the idea behind it.

My other favorite AU type is one I don't see often but I wish I did, and it's the self-aware ones or the ones where the reader/character ends up in the fictional world of the fandom they're in. My reason for liking those ones is because they can turn into good horror fics or have creepy vibes IF done right. It's like the 4th wall breaking rule in some video games or horror movies. Twilight Zone vibes y'know?

For my own personal Finfolk AU, I did want to add yandere vibes, but not like Wattpad anime fanfiction kind of yandere. I think yandere fics should be taken seriously and treated seriously because of the topics they deal with. I have read so many fanfictions that do it just right where it genuinely scares me and it makes for interesting dynamics between the characters. I haven't gone into full horror with the AU though simply because I'm afraid of people romanticizing what is supposed to be dangerous behavior or dark topics. The finfolk folklore itself is dark when you look into the stories/mythology. I just don't like seeing how often AUs and fanfictions with serious topics get put on a pedestal in a wrong lighting. But, I do plan on eventually trying to go full horror with it at some point. When? I'm not sure yet. Maybe when I have more experience in writing. All I know is that making the characters attractive (that is what finmen/women do regardless in folklore) but obsessive without making it romanticized is going to be difficult.

So I'm thinking maybe I will do this since my artwork itself hasn't gotten any hits lately and it might help get me to write on my fics more if I get into the "zone"

I'm thinking base prices might be something like

1--1.5k Words = 15$ (USD)

2--2.5k Words = 25$ (USD)

3--3.5k Words= 35$ (USD)

I'm thinking as well about 4--4.5k Words; but I don't know if I'd be able to do it (at least not in the usual time-frames) but if I did it would probably have a bit more along the lines of 2 or more parts so if there are time skips involved it's less jarring. So that would be base priced at around 45$ (USD)

Given how time-consuming writing is for me vs drawing, timeframe would be anywhere from 2 days to 7 days until the product would be finished! (More of some sort of family emergency/drama starts up and in that case I will let you know and provide updates when I can work on them!)

Big thing I don't write for in both SFW and NSFW is cheating. Why do you think Spuffy and many enemies to lovers ships alike are so popular in many fandoms?

OK, I'm going to talk about the possible appeal of enemies to lovers differently than the appeal of Spuffy.

I don't actively ship Drarry, it's not something I'm "serious" about or or even care much about but when asked what I like about Drarry, one of the things I say is the mutual obsession, and I think that's a big appeal with regards to enemies to lovers ships. In fiction, there's a kind of intense intimacy in wanting to destroy another person to the point of preoccupation, where you can't stop talking about them, can't stop thinking about them, where you're, like, plagued by their every move, you need to know what's going on with them at every possible moment, which in it of itself has a romance to it, and then it leads to an actual romance.

Another aspect of Drarry that I talk about is the sense of them being mirrors. Draco's a Slytherin, Harry's a Griffyindor, Draco has two parents, Harry has none, Draco is chosen by Voldemort to kill Dumbledore, Harry is mentored by Dumbledore to take down Voldemort, that can be an aspect of enemies to lovers if the two characters are on opposing sides but see themselves reflected in each other and it's almost like a soulmate connection through those narrative similarities, I had absolutely no dog in the Reylo fight which got super intense but I saw that type of narrative between them when I watched the movies

And in my opinion, I don’t even necessarily see Kylo and Rey’s connection as traditionally romantic, it’s almost like a spiritual need and a spiritual desire because they’re narrative balances of each other — as your darkness grows, her light rises (or something) — and their differences are rooted in similarities, they’re both confused and lonely and looking for their true selves which leads them down separate paths that entwine and therefore they recognize something in each other which leads to really intimate and sensual connections, I personally don’t find that toxic or find that Rey and Kylo have to be “together” in the conventional sense…

and that can be an intriguing storyline.

With regards to Spuffy, I find a lot of it is a deliberate misreading of text by fandom

and a lot horrible writing in season 7 by the show

which is the same as something like Delena, like rather than it being an actual enemies to lovers ship, I find that people treat it as more of a bad boy redemptive ship

and I don't think it's done adequately.

so for the latter, i wrote a small mdzs fic from lan sizhui's POV a while ago called "let the yoke fall from our shoulders," which i had not initially even conceived of writing, but it was one of those things that just kinda wrote itself very quickly and i was surprised at how personal it got based on my own experience with inherited parental grief. so that surprised me! for the former, i'm generally a pretty emotionally stoic person when i'm reading or writing something, but one time i had to draft a pretty intense grief scene in one of my older mdzs fics (a soulmate/red thread AU) where lwj gets the news that wwx died, and i remember that put me in a funk for at least a few hours.

ohhhh hmmmm i'm not sure? i would say in general i've improved a lot from even the beginning of the pandemic, so it's changed in that way, but i'm not sure if i can describe the style because i think it depends on the subject matter; i really like trying different modes and styles to see if i can do them (i.e., something comedic & cracky v. something serious & emotional)

The afternoon sun felt like a warm coat in the winter air.

Like Wanda's smile.

Sighing deeply, Natasha dried the tears that attempted to escape her.

This was not the time.

Putting on a brave face, she directed her attention to the group. They've been thinking ways of bringing everyone back for... years, now.

But every attempted idea came crashing down like a castle made of cards. And no matter how hard they tried to make it a reality, nothing seemed to work.

She swore she'd bring her back, whatever it took. So patience and hope that Tony would recover sooner than later were what got her going.

That and the wish of a life with her Wanda. A life that was taken from them way too soon.

Certainly, their beginning wasn't all rainbows. With Wanda's resilience to trust Stark's team and Natasha's own trust issues, they hadn't seen eye to eye.

Until a damn red leather jacket happened.

Natasha laughed at the memory. Wanda's face was too priceless she wished she had a camera to immortalize it.

The pillow she was holding had lost her smell a long time ago, but it was the only thing soft enough to hold her shattered heart. After all, Wanda was engraved in her soul to even attempt to forget her.

Before she could get deep into her memories with the brunette, a turmoil outside her room called her attention.

Curious enough to find out what was all about, Natasha marched towards the arguing voices.

Well, more like a babbling voice.

Listening intently to what the man in front of her was saying, she could start to feel alive again.

Her faith only grew stronger when Wanda's image lighted up from the hologram.

"Even if there's a small chance that we can undo this, we- We owe it to everyone who is not in this room to try,"

'I owe it to her' she vowed to herself.

After all the things they had endured together, after all the heart-opening talks they shared, it was only fair they got to grow old together. Soulmates were forever.

Natasha knew Ross' visit wasn't something to feel optimistic about. And the downfall of said meeting had been thrown mostly over Wanda.

The Sokovia Accords, they called it. Almost a direct sentence to Wanda.

"What can I do?" She knocked on the open door of the witch's room.

Wanda just looked up and smiled crookedly, patting the bed beside her.

Content with the answer, she walked towards the bed she used to fall asleep on when movie nights araised.

"I'm a villain," Wanda spoke, breaking the silence after a while. "To the world."

"The world doesn't know you," Natasha answered. "It was a good-intentioned mistake."

"Was it?" Wanda asked with tears at the brim of her green eyes and Natasha couldn't bear the tug on her heart.

"Don't go there," Natasha took Wanda's hand, intertwining their fingers together. "It was a mistake."

The night that unfolded was definitely, one of the most cherished for Natasha.

Not because something serious happened, but because they got to discover a new aspect in their new relationship.

As the days passed by and the brand new plan for undoing the blip was becoming a reality, Natasha felt her heart starting to build itself back up.

"Hang in there, Wands. I'll bring you back," she vowed to herself. Optimisms running through every cell of her body.

"Ready for a space ride?" Clint asked as he fastened his seatbelt.

"I know I should say yes," she paused, calming herself.

"The things we do for love," Clint smiled sadly -yet hopefully, and Natasha couldn't help but to take his hand and squeeze it, both showing him her support and to get anchored to something.

"Let's get this over with," she straightened herself as Clint started to press different buttons.

Fucking spaceships.

Vormir was not what she expected. Not that she expected much, anyways. But the desolated, deadly vibe certainly wasn't it.

"I'll go," Clint spoke.

Looking up, Natasha found his friend with teary eyes, trying to maintain a strong façade.

She knew he was doing this to redeem himself. He wanted to leave Ronin behind; he needed to pay for his wrongdoings.

But Red Skull was clear. To obtain the stone, they should decide. A soul for a soul.

Natasha knew Clint deserved a new chance. For his -her- family. The kids deserved their dad around.

Tears started to run down her face as she came to the realization that it was only two of them and she wouldn't let the kids without their dad.

Images of Wanda laughing and enjoying her life played in her mind like a bittersweet melody. And she knew right then right there, that she'd do anything to see her smile again.

It may be selfish, but she made a promise, and she never broke them.

She just hoped Wanda could forgive her.

'Whatever it takes' she mumbled.

Standing up, she realized Clint had the same mindset. And it was her duty to send him back.

If she had to describe the last seconds, minutes of her life, she wouldn't know where to start from. It all developed in a flash. Almost imperceptible to the eye if you weren't paying attention to it.

But there she was. The only thing keeping her from falling to her end was a hanging Clint, holding her hand in a tight grip, refusing to let her go.

She looked at her friend one last time. "Take care of her,"

"No," Clint choked through tears. "It hasn't to be you."

"It's okay," Natasha reassured him. "Let go," she pleaded.

She knew the rope wouldn't hold them both for much longer. So before Clint could say anything, she remembered Wanda's face one last time as she jumped off.

What better way to die than knowing you fulfilled your promise?

"Hold on," were the last words the infamous Black Widow spoke before succumbing into nothingness.

Nothingness.

That's what Wanda had been feeling since finding out her lover sacrificed herself, for her.

Granted, angriness and guilt were present inside her fighting for dominance. But little power did they have against the empty sack of bones she's become.

"I hope she knows," Clint spoke softly beside her.

Sobbing silently, she nodded. "She knows." She let herself be comforted by the former archer. "They know," she reassured herself as Tony's arc reactor floated away in the lake.

Wanda had no idea how long she's been driving. Too lost in her mind to even care about the journey, when she had a destination.

In that instant, a fresh breeze infiltrated her car, and it made it seem so real.

She could feel Natasha's scent in the passenger seat and it was like she was right there, smiling calmly at her.

Something she'd always do when she wasn't the one driving.

The GPS indicated she reached her destination.

Just the foundation of what hers and Natasha's home would be.

Ignoring the stings in her heart, she got off the car and walked to the center of the construction as she read the red letters inside the heart had written in their designed land.

The almost inexistent construction felt so... lifeless.

The continuous beeping of the heart monitor resonated in Wanda's ears. Her heart stopping with Natasha's as she saw behind a window how the doctors made everything they could to get the flat, green line move again.

"Come back. I still need you,"

Wanda cried loudly, holding herself while the love of her life battled in a cold table for her life.

The pang in her heart made it impossible to hold her tears anymore.

In a matter of seconds, she felt herself drowning in toxic air, damaging her lungs.

Finally allowing herself to mourn, she collapsed on the ground with a hard thump. Angry, red energy flowed away from her chest in all directions as Wanda allowed the force to drain all of her pain as a guttural scream left her mouth. Feeling her body trembling with each ounce of her soul slipping away.

Waiting for what seemed like the last moments of her life, she found herself being surrounded by walls and appliances. Every single item materializing in front of her, an exact replica of what she and Natasha imagined in the late nights when insomnia would strike.

As the last bits of energy flowed around, she forced herself to calm down her erratic heartbeats. But what seemed like an easy task became an impossibility when a well-known body appeared in front of her, literally taking her breath away.

"Natasha," Wanda whispered, afraid this was just another dream.

With trembling feet, Wanda moved towards the redhead, slowly taking in every inch of her.

The hand that reached for her face felt warm and cozy. Just as Natasha's hand.

"Please," Wanda leaned toward Natasha's touch. "Tell me this is real,"

Smiling softly, Natasha leaned down to kiss her lips, joining their forehead together after a moment. Before everything turned pitch black.

The tilting pain in her brain got Wanda grunting as she turned around in the fluffy bed she found herself into.

But any uncomfort she was feeling, faded away when she realized a familiar warmth beside her.

The smiling face that greeted her was enough to fill her eyes with tears.

Moving closer, Wanda cupped the redhead's cheek, her thumb gently caressing the soft skin underneath.

None of them daring to break the comfortable silence they found themselves into.

The next few days, both women enjoyed themselves, basking in each other's company.

The small town they were in presented a calm ambient for their battled souls.

The suburb-like streets felt like home as they roamed through them, simply doing grocery shopping or just going for a walk.

Everything was so perfect that it seemed like nothing bad had happened.

It was all so natural, that everything fitted just right like a puzzle would do.

But it wasn't until random events started happening that Wanda noticed the signals.

Natasha just observed the brunette living in the fantasy she created.

Granted, she knew this wouldn't last forever. Wanda had a long way to go, both to discover and to control her powers.

But it didn't mean she wasn't allowed to enjoy the best she could.

So she played along doing whatever Wanda, unconsciously, obliged her to.

And she was doing a great job. Not even once Wanda had suspected from her.

But the glitches would become more noticeable every passing minute. She knew she had to warn her before it was too late.

But one look at Wanda's green eyes, as they laid in bed, was enough to get her resolution crumbling down.

How could she make her go through it again? How was she supposed to break her heart, once again?

"You make me so happy," Wanda spoke, making Natasha flinch at those words.

Tears ran down her cheeks as realization washed over her.

What started like small changes -glitches, in almost invisible things, became more and more noticeable as Wanda kept this illusion going on and on.

One look from the brunette behind her was enough for Natasha to put herself together.

After all, this wouldn't be happening if she stayed alive.

"What's happening?" Wanda frowned as the wall in front of her started to change its wallpapers, to a point of even mixing them up.

"Wanda, baby," Natasha spoke, getting Wanda's attention.

Looking back at those pleading green orbs, Natasha swallowed hard as she looked for the right words.

But somehow, it wasn't necessary.

"I can't lose you again," Wanda cried. "I've just got you,"

The whole house started to tremble. A clear signal that Wanda was losing control over her powers.

"My love, you have to let me go," Natasha allowed herself to cry her own tears.

At the shaking state of the brunette, Natasha connected their foreheads once again, sighing contently when Wanda got the clue.

"I'll always be with you, Wands," Natasha let her mind speak the words her throat was unable to.

"I still need you here," Wanda cried in the same way.

Smiling sadly at Wanda's silent request, Natasha brought the brunette's hand to her chest, where her heartbeat started to slow down. Just the right pulsations for Wanda to say goodbye.

Wanda's sobs became erratic, making her body convulse as she felt Natasha's life scaping her once again. This time, forever.

As Wanda looked at her lover one last time, she slowly ceased her magic. The house that held so many moments, vanishing away.

"I swear to love you all my life," Wanda vowed to the nothingness she found herself once again.

Jin and you had your anniversary today. However, an idol can't exactly postpone a performance because of a reason such as this one, especially when no fan even knew he was in a relationship in the first place.

You understood, though. You had known what you'd get yourself into the moment you two agreed to turn this into something serious and so you weren't angry at him for doing his job. You had simply agreed that you'd pick him up from the show and then you'd either go and have dinner or drive over to his apartment to cook together, depending on how tired he was.

You must have come a little early though, because when Jin walked out of their dressing room, all ready to go, he found you standing in the hallway talking to Jooheon.

“No, don't be ridiculous. Get your things, I'm driving you there.”

“You're the best and I love you,” Jooheon kissed your cheek, then ran into his dressing room to get his things.

And well, Jin had seen this and stared at you with an open mouth, not quite believing what he had just witnessed, especially the nonchalant look that you had on your face threw him off.

“What? He wants to call someone to pick him up, the address is on our way, we'll just drop him off.”

“And he couldn't say that to you like any other normal human being? He had to say I love you and... kiss your cheek?”

“He’s like family. Jooheon loves you like an older brother. Do you really think he'd ever do something to risk that relationship?”

Probably not.

And when Jooheon walked back out and you three walked to your car, Jin asked: “It's not your apartment. Where are you going?”

“Ah.. it’s.. my girlfriend, hyung.”

No reason to be jealous. None.

“You're finally awake,” Hoseok laughed when Yoongi opened his eyes and slowly sat up, brushing his hands over his face, “(Y/N) stopped by. But since you were asleep, she wandered off.”

“Where to?” he asked with a yawn.

“Don't know. She said something about needing to see Baekhyun.”

Oh boy, despite the lack of sleep due to him having worked his ass off all night long, he sprinted out of the make-up room in search of you, until he found you talking in an empty hallway with Baekhyun.

“I'm not messing around,” he chuckled, “I'm telling the truth.”

“You're an idiot,” you shook your head, but there was a smile on your face.

“Am I interrupting?” Yoongi stood between you two and since you hadn't exactly been far away from each other, he now suddenly stood very close to Baekhyun.

“Ah, Yoongi,” Baekhyun chuckled a little uncomfortably and took a step back, “We were just.. I mean, we just..-” he cleared his throat, turning around to nothing but emptiness, “Ah, those are my guys. I better get back. Nice talking to you, (Y/N).”

Despite Yoongi being younger, Baekhyun knew when to step back. This must have looked like something it really wasn’t, but from someone that had just walked in, he understood why Yoongi didn’t like what he saw.

“He keeps doing that. They keep doing that. Why do they keep doing that,” Yoongi muttered mostly to himself, then grabbed your hand and interlinked your fingers with his, “You’re mine.”

You giggled a little at how possessive he suddenly became. 

jung hoseok

Hoseok had only left for like five minutes, but when he came back, he found you in deep conversation with Yuta, talking about, what sounded to him like, Yuta asking you to come to Japan with him, because he could easily show you around.

Who did that?

Who asked someone who was in a relationship to go on vacation with him? That wasn’t cool. 

“She's good,” Hoseok interrupted, before Yuta could speak more on it, “We've already planned our next vacations. Japan isn't on the list unfortunately. But thank you for the offer.”

He didn't give him another chance to speak, only waited until Yuta was gone to turn around.

“You just made a fool out of yourself, Hoseok.”

“Because I don't want some guy to take my girlfriend to his home country?”

“Because I asked him if he could make me a list of things that we could do. Japan might not be on our list, but I wanted to add it as a surprise for you,” you shrugged, “Now you ruined it and I doubt he's ever going to talk to me again, because everyone in this industry has too much respect for you. So good job, buddy. Your jealousy once again clouded your judgment.”

He felt like the biggest fucking idiot on the planet.

This is exactly why Namjoon didn't like taking you to award shows with him.

In a world where everyone was so special, the one that wasn't an idol, but also wasn't a staff member, was the most interesting person in the room. So naturally, everyone was drawn to you. What were you doing here? Who were you with? Where were you from? 

And then there were those who didn't know that you were in a relationship with Namjoon and they just outright asked questions like: Are you still single? Do you want to go out with me?

And unfortunately, tonight was no different.

“I just think it's nice to see someone else who speaks English like me,” Matthew from KARD grinned at you with a little more than simple curiosity in his eyes.

Namjoon saw that little spark and he crossed the room in an instant.

“I don't think it's that special. There are many people here who speak English well, like..-”

“Like her boyfriend,” Namjoon smiled, even though that smile didn't reach his eye. And he didn't want to start trouble here, he actually really liked Matthew and he knew he was older so he wanted to be respectful. So he ended up excusing you two and pulled you away from him, since that seemed to be the best and easiest option to get out of the conversation.

“Jealous, are we?”

“Of him?” Namjoon snorted, squeezing your butt once he was sure that nobody was looking, “I know I don't have to be jealous of anyone, sweetheart.”

His actions told a different story though.

Jimin had been so excited about today.

He had practiced so hard for this performance, was ready to show it to his fans and everyone else that was here at this show and to top it all off, you had managed to get a day off and could watch him perform live for the first time in a very long time.

So Jimin walked up on that stage and showed everyone that he was indeed one of the world's most talented singers and dancers, only to walk off stage to find you not beaming at him like he had hoped, but instead, talking with a few guys from Seventeen.

“You're so sweet,” was the first thing Jimin heard you say to the youngest of the group, Dino blushing from ear to ear.

No, this was definitely not what he had hoped, nor wanted.

He was jealous, also a little bit disappointed, but mostly jealous. That is why he wrapped an arm around your shoulder, despite all the sweat.

All of the Seventeen members immediately bowed, almost all scurrying off as soon as he appeared, except for Dino, who lingered a little longer.

“Thank you, (Y/N),” he smiled happily at you, then he ran after his members.

You looked up, grinning when you found your boyfriend glaring so hard that if he had laser beam powers, he would glare holes into Dino's back.

“You don't have to be jealous. He told me that he was a fan of my writing style and how I'm the only author he reads articles from nowadays,” Jimin relaxed instantly, but there was still the matter of you not..- “And also, you were fantastic up on that stage. I'm so proud of you, baby.”

Oh, well, in that case.

Taehyung often felt like you going to award shows with him was kind of pointless, since he was either out watching others perform, or performing himself. He didn't have a lot of time to spend backstage.

But today, they had a really special performance and a rather long one that he wanted you to witness live, especially because he had hyped it up so much beforehand.

Performance in itself was good, but when he walked out and into the green room, he found you at a table with Super Junior members.

“I just think it's really interesting, why you chose him, I mean.”

Taehyung's jealousy flared up to the ceiling and he was about to waltz in there and tell them to leave you alone, despite them being so much older and more experienced, but he was glad that he stopped in his tracks before he did.

“He was there for me when I needed him most, despite him being so busy. We were friends before we became partners and I don't think anyone knows me as good as he does. I'm dating my soulmate, it's as easy as that.”

You shut them up the right way and Taehyung just watched with a soft smile, once again realizing how lucky he was.

jeon jeongguk

The moment that Jeongguk saw you talking to BamBam and Yugyeom, he made his way over and put his hands on your shoulders, beginning to massage them.

“Can you not flirt with my girlfriend please?”

“We just asked her why she didn't pick one of us, but you. We're more handsome than you ever could be,” BamBam teased.

“They actually just asked what cologne you were using today, because you smelled fantastic.”

“Wow, you're such a traitor,” Yugyeom got up, sticking out his tongue before leaving you and Jeongguk on your own.

Jeongguk grinned and leaned down to kiss your cheek, whispering a soft: “I love you,” into your ear.
