MHA boys reaction to finding out after the final war that their s/o became wheelchair bound and became a teacher after the war ended.

~Izuku Midoriya~

When Izuku first learns that his s/o was badly injured in the war and can no longer walk, he would be absolutely devastated. Seeing the person he loves in so much pain, and knowing they sacrificed their mobility fighting alongside him, would tear him apart with grief and guilt. He'd likely break down crying and apologizing profusely for not protecting them.

But once the initial shock passes, Izuku's compassionate and supportive nature would quickly take over. He would do everything in his power to be there for his s/o during their recovery and adaptation to life in a wheelchair. Izuku would constantly encourage them, telling them how incredible and heroic they are for all they've done. He'd be endlessly patient, helping them with daily tasks and pushing their wheelchair without complaint.

At the same time, Izuku would make sure not to coddle or pity his s/o. He knows how strong and capable they are. So while he offers help, he'd also give them space to figure things out and maintain their independence as much as possible. Izuku would cheer on every milestone as they learn to navigate the world in new ways.

I imagine Izuku being so proud when his s/o takes a job teaching at UA. Using their skills and experience to help train the next generation of heroes is an amazing way for them to continue making a difference, wheelchair or no wheelchair. Izuku would brag about them to everyone. On tough days, he'd remind them what an inspiration they are to their students.

Overall, this tragedy would only make Izuku love and admire his s/o more. He'd stand by their side unconditionally, being the steadfast pillar of support they can always count on. They would grow even closer through this challenge. To Izuku, his s/o will always be his hero, no matter what.

~Katsuki Bakugo~

Initially, Bakugo is filled with rage and guilt. He's furious at the villains who hurt his s/o so badly, and furious at himself for not being able to protect them. He may lash out or seem angry at first, but it's masking his devastation and self-blame.

Once the initial shock and anger fades, Bakugo becomes fiercely protective and supportive of his s/o. He's determined to be there for them no matter what as they adjust to their new circumstances. He helps them with physical therapy, getting their home accessibility upgraded, and anything else they need without complaint.

Bakugo is secretly very proud that his s/o has taken on a teaching role at UA to help train the next generation of heroes. He knows they have a wealth of experience and wisdom to share. But he grumbles that the "damn kids better not give you any trouble or they'll have to answer to me."

When his s/o has hard days and gets frustrated with their physical limitations, Bakugo is quick to remind them that they're still every bit the incredible hero and person they've always been. "You think a little thing like a wheelchair makes you any less amazing? Don't be a damn idiot."

Bakugo makes it clear to everyone that NOTHING about his love and respect for his partner has changed. He shuts down any pitying looks or comments immediately. His s/o is still the badass he fell in love with and he won't let anyone imply otherwise.

On the anniversary of the day his s/o was injured, Bakugo is always extra attentive, planning special things to show how glad he is to still have them by his side. He knows things could have turned out much worse and he'll never take their presence for granted.

Overall, in the end, he loves them for who they are no matter what.

~Shoto Todoroki~

When Shoto first learns what happened to his partner, he feels a mix of deep concern, sadness, and anger that they were so badly injured. Even years later, remembering the moment he found out still brings back those painful emotions. He wishes more than anything he could have protected them.

At the same time, Shoto is incredibly proud of his S/O's bravery, sacrifice and strength. They put their life on the line as a hero, just like he did. And now they are channeling that same heroic spirit into inspiring and guiding the next generation at UA. Shoto has endless respect and admiration for them.

Shoto makes sure to be there to physically and emotionally support his partner as much as possible, especially early on as they adjust to using a wheelchair. He helps make their home fully accessible. If his S/O is self-conscious about the wheelchair, Shoto reassures them that it doesn't change how he feels at all - he loves them unconditionally and their chair is a symbol of their courage.

When he visits them at work, Shoto loves seeing his S/O in their element - skillfully navigating the school grounds and classrooms, captivating the students with their hard-earned wisdom and experience. The students look up to them immensely. Shoto teases that they're everyone's favorite teacher.

In private moments, Shoto makes sure his partner knows how much he cherishes them. The war took a heavy toll on them both physically and mentally. But supporting each other and building a life together has brought hope and light back after so much darkness.

Overall, his S/O inspires Shoto to be a better hero and person every day.

the flap of a butterfly's wings (action vs. wishing)

After reading the official translations and being able to see the high-res artwork for Ch. 404 I have more thoughts on the whole "wishing energy" thing, particularly in relation to the "butterfly effect" metaphor that made an appearance again.

First off, I think we need to talk about what Nighteye actually says about the "energy". It's not just "energy from wishing". It's also "energy from striving for a certain future."

What he's really saying is that actions and prayers are both important and these two parts work together to change the future.

The problem is that this chapter leaned too heavily into the wishing energy and reliance on prayers.

Although the composition of the spread where Katsuki is being propelled toward All Might with the backdrop of all the people praying is visually appealing, reducing the text on this page to "someone's prayers" makes it less impactful by focusing only on the "prayers" (wishing) part of the equation and ignoring the "striving" (action) involved.

My hope is that in the next chapter there will be another spread with a similar composition when Katsuki continues to fight, maybe showing all the others who are taking action in their own way (to represent the "energy from striving"), or all the people who have propelled Katsuki forward in his journey, creating that "butterfly effect" and getting him to where he is now.

It could even be something similar to the panels in Ch. 390 when Shouto's friends are there with him in spirit, pushing him forward as he's racing toward Touya the second time.

Katsuki has definitely butted heads with others so something like this that shows how he has grown with the rest of the class and come to see them as equals rather than "extras" would be very fitting. It might be hard to compile enough panels of him interacting with them without yelling at everyone though.

Now, going back to the "butterfly effect" metaphor:

The original butterfly quote is more about tiny actions causing big changes than the magic of thoughts and prayers.

"Can the flap of a butterfly's wings in Brazil really bring about a hurricane in Texas? Is it the fate of our superpowered society-which began with a single glowing baby-to descend into utter chaos? The power of a single man can change the world." (Ch. 374)

If you interpret the last line literally, yes, she's saying that a single person can change the world and Katsuki definitely did that here. However, her ad-libbing at the end of the weather report was essentially a call to action, telling the world that they cannot stop fighting. With this context, the more accurate interpretation, and the one that fits with the entire rest of the series, is that one tiny, seemingly insignificant action has a ripple effect.

While Katsuki saving All Might was a huge action, one that undoubtedly changed the tides of the battle, he didn't do it alone. There were countless tiny things that got him to where he is now.

And that's the entire point.

This whole story was never about complacency or trusting one person to save the day. The narrative even points this out in the wake of All Might's retirement - that it was a mistake to put all their burdens on one person.

It's a theme repeated time and time again, most notably when Izuku tries to do things on his own but is reminded that he needs his friends.

Then, Uraraka's speech makes people realize that they can't just be spectators. Even if they're not prepared to fight the way heroes are, they can't just sit back and do nothing.

And in that moment, people do step forward. They let Izuku rest and acknowledge the efforts of the heroes. However small this might seem, it makes a difference.

Having everyone go back to relying on All Might over the past several chapters during his solo mech-suit fight against AFO and just praying that someone will show up to save the day seems like a step backward thematically.

However, the story is not over and Katsuki's return will undoubtedly give everyone else the push to keep fighting and win. Hopefully that means we'll also get a clear reference to all the tiny actions that made this "butterfly effect" possible. And no, that won't take away from Katsuki's big moment. If done right it'll make it even more meaningful because no one was ever meant to do it on their own.

*I'm using the low quality scan of this panel to make this point because I wanted the original Japanese version. The official English translation changes Katsuki's words to "Time to win this" but the actual translation is closer to "Let's win" or "We'll win". It's a small detail but it's important because this way it's more like Katsuki calling everyone to action rather than declaring his own victory as he would have in the past.

Also, if we don't get a close-up of these kids reacting to Katsuki the way they did with Shouto, what is even the point? I'm only half joking on that one.

TL;DR

Nighteye's theory about being able to change the future wasn't just about "energy from wishing", it was also "energy from striving for a certain future", meaning that both actions and prayers are needed.

The "flap of a butterfly's wings" metaphor is meant as a call to action and has more to do with tiny actions causing big changes than the magic of thoughts and prayers.

They're going to win, not because of one person, but because of the collective efforts of everyone who helped along the way.

Hello and welcome to Day 12 of "Let's Explore My Plot Bunnies"

Today, I wanna present to you a plot bunny that has a concept inspired by the manhwa "I want to be a Great Villain" - an Izuku has a System AU!

In "I want to be a Great Villain," the main character has a system that puts him into different stories, and he has to finish the storyline while maintaining his role as the "villain" of said story. If he doesn't comply, he can receive punishments (such as being electrocuted).

Title of the fic: "World's Best Hero System"

For this fic, what I did was I took the "System that makes you follow the storyline and punishes you with electrocution" part and mashed it with a version of Izuku that DOES NOT want to become a hero.

However, he has the misfortune (aka me, I bring the misfortune) of bring selected by a "System" (in the form of a cat) to be this world's "Best Hero Ever" - the System's words, not mine.

Izuku immediately refuses and promptly gets punished via slow suffocation. The System tells him, "You either follow the storyline or die here. Which one would you choose?"

In the end, Izuku accepts the deal, if only just because he doesn't wanna die yet. And so, the more confident and straightforward Izuku takes the role of canon Izuku. Shy, without much confidence and with a very big complex about being Quirkless - but on the inside, Izuku is seething because he doesn't like the "character" he has to play as for this sadistic System.

Katsuki is also very confused since he knew Izuku from before the System and liked him better then, too. In this AU, Katsuki's reason for being mean to Izuku is to finally make him snap and revert back to the more confident, outspoken "I don't give a shit" Izuku he knew before.

The System tells him he will become the "World's Best Hero" but doesn't bother to make him train or even stop him from training many times. It tells him that he should just follow along with the storyline, even though Izuku is very skeptical of this "storyline" the System talks about.

So, Izuku ends up messing around a lot just to test the limits of the System. Not doing what he is told to do, not following the rules exactly as he is told to, speaking back to the System and arguing with it - and as such, he is punished a lot. So much so that Izuku develops a high tolerance for pain due to the punishments.

Things continue like this till the day Izuku is supposed to met All Might. That same day, Katsuki is supposed to tell Izuku to "go take a dive of the roof and pray he gets a Quirk in his next life." Katsuki doesn't.

Seeing this, the System takes matters in its own hands and controls Katsuki for a brief period of time so Katsuki actually says the line he was supposed to. (Bakugou is still kinda conscious during this and he has a lot of guilt about it.) This is where Izuku realizes the System is way more dangerous than he ever thought since it can fully control people to do or say what it wants them to.

Meeting All Might and learning about One for All makes Izuku confident that the System has some goal in mind other than "finishing the storyline." Which, in Izuku’s opinion, it's not actually a good thing. Especially not when the System seems near gleeful at the fact that All Might wants to give the Quirk to him.

And so beings Izuku’s quest of stopping the System from whatever it is planning to do while trying to avoid being killed by the League of Villains because he gained Shigaraki Tomura's interest.

Meanwhile, we have the System, which is fully aware that without Izuku, the world will end due to All For One's actions. The System basically searches for a way to stop the madman from ending the world and comes across the "canon storyline," which it uses in order to make sure the world won't end.

It may have forgotten to explain that to Izuku beforehand, though. Oops.

More little details:

Izuku is 7 when he gets the System.

The System is able to control people who are "characters of the story" for a short period of time. The Villains are exceptions because they will fall into the villainous acts they need to do naturally without the System's interference.

The System takes the form of a cat that is only visible to Izuku.

There are other people in this AU with a System but only Izuku has the "World's Best Hero" System. Other systems would include: "Best Reverse Harem Protagonist", "Best Mafia Boss", "Best Scientist" etc. (Izuku does meet some of the System-having people)

There will be a lot of angst in this because Izuku has to conform to the main storyline: for example, even if he wants to, the System will stop him from talking Iida out of going after Stain. And then there is Katsuki centric angst with him being taken over by the System and saying things that he truthfully regrets ever saying.

And this is about all I have for this plot bunny. So, how was it? Good? Bad? Let me know!

Honestly, I kinda love My Hero Academia mashed together with a System AU because it means one of two things: 1. Izuku/Whoever is chosen has to work around the System's mechanizations (if it has any) to get to a good ending in the stroy; or 2. Izuku/Whoever is chosen has to survive the plans of the System (be it bad or good System).

I actually have an Izuku Survival System AU as well, which I will talk about tomorrow.

Character Analysis: Izuku Midoriya. Part 1

Izuku Midoriya from Reality to Conflict to Sanity.

To understand Izuku we need to bring up these two important moments. This is due to the fact this is the building block to everything he believes in. Starting with how Izuku is a witness to how Katsuki is struggling against much older and typically physically stronger kids. Katsuki is being bullied and all Izuku can do is hide.

While he is seeing all this play out, he is inspired by the actions Katsuki does. Instead of letting himself get beaten, Katsuki fight back. Not only that, he wins. When the odds seemed against him, Katsuki still comes on top. Even when Katsuki is crying he still stands tall.

For a child to witness someone of their own age fight and win against a group that is typically stronger is a big deal. It what inspires Izuku to do the same. Even if he's up against odds that aren't in his favor, he would follow in his hero's path and fight back. Then comes the next image where Katsuki vocally points out where the inspiration for his actions comes from. This is were we learned that both boys idolize All Might. Keep in mind I said "Idolize."

But based on the society he lives in, one could only be a hero if they have a quirk. Up until the point where Katsuki got his quirk, he and Izuku were on even ground. Both trying to live up to the expectation of being stand when people knock you down. So, when learning he doesn't have something that is deemed the core of a hero, it is crushing. And to pour salt on the wound, his own mother doesn't believe he can live up to his dreams.

This is where I like to point out that we have yet to even meet Izuku's father. In fact, he is nowhere around, nor mentioned in Izuku's memories. So, Izuku only has one parental feedback for both emotional and mental stability. Yet, that one parents tell you that your dreams are impossible to reach is soul crushing. But because of witnessing his hero beat the odds, Izuku believes his dreams are still possible.

Which leads to Izuku's mentality of if he doesn't try he'll never know. This becomes another belief that develops as he matures. He becomes the definition of a copycat. "If Kacchan can fight back, and win, so can I." But there's something else. The way he goes about copying is reveal with the fact he analyses the world around him.

Instead of relying on a quirk, like the rest of the population, he breaks down strategy. At that, while the rest of the world is telling he can't, Katsuki words are completely different. This key difference Izuku picks up and adds another block to what drives him forward.

"Try what?" "What can you even do?" Compared to the repetition of being told he can't. That because he has no quirk he'll never be able to do anything. But to have your hero tell you to back down, is way different than being told you're not able to do something. For Izuku he has learned to tell the slight difference between people's actions and words. Which is very helpful when analyzing quirks and behaviors to become a hero.

Then when Izuku meet his idol, he is reminded of how society views him. Something he been trying so hard to not believe. Even with the knowledge of how his surroundings screamed that he can't be anything, he refuses to believe it. This goes back to how his hero fought on regardless with the odds against him. For Izuku trying is the only way forward. Quitting is not an option for him.

Then when he comes upon a crime scene where even the pro heroes aren't even trying. Where everyone just looks on helpless. This is another point where even the best can becomes useless. And when he realize it's his hero that needs help, something inside Izuku snaps.

Izuku struggles with the ideology of what people have told him vs what he believes. Izuku belief in trying is much stronger than giving in to what society tells him. And this is the driving belief that we see Izuku has throughout his high school life. It's a belief that's just as strong as the belief that he is worthless.

hm okay, so lets say that you were in the passengers seat when the crash happened

katsuki will probably want to find whoever was the driver, and just absolutely go ballistic on them, but probably ends up not doing that when he thinks about what you’d feel

and lets say another driver crashed into your car— katsuki will search high and low just to find that said driver, and he’ll show them hell

and if you crashed into a poll or something, he wouldn’t get too mad— but he’ll still scold you, and lecture you about driving safety

when he finds out you need surgery, he’ll be so upset

“what do you mean SURGERY? who the hell crashed into you, and why do they have a license?! they’re a danger to society!” he sounds angry but he’s quietly yet impatiently waiting outside for the surgery to be successfully completed

it might take a while for him to be reassured that you won’t accidentally end up in a ditch again, but for now— you’re carpooling with the big three

worried about your grades because of the time you’ve missed during your recovery? no worries! tamaki made an extra copy of notes, and basically summarized it in a way you could understand!

it’s a rollercoaster 💀 but at least this made tamaki take initiative, even without being pushed to do so!

he’s been wondering why he hasn’t seen you in a few hours, and on top of that— he hasn’t been able to contact you

like,, at all. but, he thought you were just feeling ill— so he decided that he was going to head over to your place after his tasks were taken care of.

but that’s all forgotten, when he finally gets word that you’ve gotten in a car crash— and that’s why you weren’t there

he literally freezes in place, and his reaction was almost like he saw the endeavor-nomu fight all over again.

the idea of his love being in critical state, made the normally calm todoroki placed in distress

after being calmed down by his fellow classmates, he quickly abandons whatever he was doing, so he could rush to the hospital

currently, you were in surgery. he appeared pretty calm on the outside, but internally— he was a mess. though, he did have to keep it together for you

when shouto finally meets you out of surgery, his gaze is soft “hi love— no, don’t stand up! just stay there. do you remember what happened?”

if another driver crashed into you, it’ll be an intimidating encounter,, he won’t be physical, but his words will be harsh— not even caring about the fact that the driver is literally quaking in their shoes

and if you were in the passengers seat, shouto will briefly look at them with pure disappointment— he can’t really help it,,

but he can’t find himself being mad if you were the driver, he’s just glad that you’re still with him as you could tell, shouto’s only soft for you

immediately goes shopping for groceries after he takes you back, and you’ve guessed it! he makes you soba, since you’re fresh out of the hospital

insists that you stay bed ridden, and you can’t seem to oppose— since he’s giving you the softest of gazes.

unintentionally isolates you during the entire recovery stage, because he’s so absorbed with taking care of you— that he didn’t even think if you wanted to see your classmates

not that you’re complaining,, you get to see shouto and only shouto for an entire week or so!

he lets your classmates and friends see you after a bit, but he insists that they don’t speak too loudly— worried that they’ll accidentally ache your head

(that’s when everyone found out about shouto’s great caretaking ability)

worried about your grades and classes? shouto will handle it. he’ll reach out to your teachers/professors, and he’ll try to make some negotiations, he makes sure to tell them that you were taking time off because of a health emergency

will he immediately let you be in a car by yourself after? hm,, maybe not— it’ll take some time for you to be able to drive alone again. if you need to go somewhere by car, he’ll accompany you :))

However, once you see their position your breath gets caught in your throat, and your entire body freezes up.

They weren’t even in a very threatening pose, their face held a bright and playful grin. Yet, all you could focus on was the hand positioned like it was going to slap you. 

  It was practically coming for you in slow motion, you thought for sure your lovely partner was getting ready to slap you.

  Without even thinking, you automatically flinch, hands coming up to protect your face, your body trembling in fear.

Izuku Midoriya

Izuku’s face changes from playful to concern very quickly, not that you can see from your tightly closed eyes and arms covering your face.

“Baby?” Izuku says softly, leaning back so he’s sitting cross-legged in front of your form. “(Y/N), baby, look at me please.” The utter concern and fear in his voice had you peaking your eyes open, looking between your fingers at the teary-eyed look he’s giving you.

Your body reacts before your mind really catches up to what the fuck just happened, and you sit up, crossing your legs as well and fiddle with your hands in your lap, looking anywhere but at Izuku’s gaze.

‘He’s gonna be so mad- he’s gonna yell and scream- I shouldn’t have reacted- if only I had just-’ Before you can even finish your rambling, terrifying thoughts, Izuku speaks up.

“D-did you think I was gonna hit you?” His voice comes out slowly and softly, but there’s not a hint of judgment. Only concern.

You slowly meet his gaze, continuing to fiddle with your hands. “N-not really you- It’s just what I’m used to so I just assumed-” You hurriedly try to explain before he speaks up again.

“Baby, you’re used to? How could you be used to- who did it? I’ll kill them, I swear!” Izuku leans forward slowly, as to not startle you anymore before pulling you to him, hugging you comfortingly, protectively. 

“You didn’t do anything wrong, (Y/N). I promise. If I had known I wouldn't have done it. I'm so sorry baby.” Izuku reassures you genuinely.

Izuku continues reassuring you, comforting you and caring for you softly as you tell him about your past. Obviously you couldn’t spill everything out all at once, there would be more of these conversations in the future. But it was honestly nice. To just be able to get it out in the open, to have him comfort you.

“I will never hurt you, (Y/N). Let me be your hero.” Izuku says after you had cried out all your tears and fell asleep on him. He places a gentle kiss on your forehead, before laying down with you and falling asleep himself.

Bakugou Katsuki

Bakugou freezes as the genuine fear he can clearly see on your trembling form. He’s quick to sit against his wall on the bed, pulling you into his lap as he comfortingly pets your hair.

You bury your head in the crook of his neck, a flurry of painful memories causing tears to build up in your tightly closed eyes as you grip onto Bakugou as if your life absolutely depended on it.

“I-i’m sorry- I didn’t mean too-” You try apologizing, but he’s quick to shush you, his voice gruff but gentle in his own Bakugou way.

“You didn’t do anything wrong, dumbass. Jus’ breathe.” Of course, Bakugou doesn’t blame you, but he also feels you thought he was going to hit you simply because of how angry he can be, he didn’t know of your past of abuse.

“I know i'm always angry and shit, but- fuck-,” His voice breaks, and he holds you the slightest bit tighter, more protectively. “I’d n-never hit you, (Y/N).” He tries to keep his voice steady but it breaks again as tears well up in his eyes. “I love you so much, I’d never do anything to hurt you, okay, baby? I swear it- fuck.” 

You continue to grip onto him desperately, opening your mouth to speak even though you know your voice is gonna be hoarse from your crying, “I k-know you would’t- it just made me think about when it did happen and I-I just reacted. I k-know you’d never, Katsu- I’m s-”

“No. Don’t be sorry. Just talk to me. Please?” He says sternly, but giving you the option object, to just stay within his arms protectively.

So you tell him some of the things you had to endure. He drops the name ‘dumbass’, giving you soft nicknames and encouragement to continue when you started crying too much to continue talking.

Aside from his encouragements, and hushing of your apologies, he just let’s you speak what's on your mind. It’s freeing, and honestly you feel a lot better when it’s over.

“Thank you, Katsu. I love you. So very much.” You whisper tiredly as you finish your hours long conversation. Bakugou shakes his head as he continues rocking you comfortingly.

“I'm here for you through whatever, babe. And I plan to keep it that fuckin’ way.” He says, the determination in his voice caused a small smile on your face.

You eventually fall asleep, Bakugou humming gently as he continues rocking you comfortingly. Honestly, you couldn’t be happier in that moment, with the love of your life caring for you with no restraints.

Todoroki Shoto

  Todoroki’s face instantly drops as he watches your reaction. He knows that reaction. He’s had that reaction too many times to count. 

He lays beside you, cuddling into your side, rubbing circles over your sides in a comforting manor as your breathing eventually returns to normal. 

“I’m sorry, (Y/N).” His voice sounds so remorseful, so genuinely hurt.

“It's not you- It’s just muscle memory- I know you’d never actually do anything to hurt me Sho.” Your voice comes out quickly, you turn over to hide into his chest as he rests his head against yours. He moves his hand so it’s rubbing your back soothingly.

“Talk to me?” Todoroki asks, and it makes your heart swell. He’s not the most emotional person, you loved him regardless of that fact obviously, but the fact that he’s offering to listen without you bringing it up first makes you a bit happier.

So you talk, telling him about different situations throughout your life that inevitably lead to the muscle memory reaction. Todoroki didn’t talk, preferring to just listen. He’d switch between rubbing your back, or running his hands through your hair, occasionally kissing along your hairline or kissing your cheeks softly as you vented.

Once you finish talking, genuinely too mentally and physically exhausted to continue, Todoroki speaks up.

“None of that was your fault. Those people- they were at fault. You had never done anything wrong, (Y/N). Thank you for telling me. Thank you for trusting me enough to talk about this. You’re so strong and brave. I'm so proud to call you mine. I love you, (Y/N). Thank you for allowing me to help.” He ends his mini speech by placing a gentle kiss on your lips.

You smile at him tiredly, before pulling the blanket from the end of the bed bed and covering you both with it. You snuggle into his chest, leaning your head up to place a kiss on his jaw, before allowing sleep to take you.

Mina Ashido

Mina pauses at your reaction, confusion taking over her features before the realization slowly comes to her.

“Babycakes, no, i’d never-” She says quickly, jumping to straddle your lap, wrapping her arms around you reassuringly as your thoughts turn dark.

“It’s okay, cupcake, I’m here for you, jus breath, I've got you.” She reassures as your wrap your arms around her, cries slowly leaving your throat while she nuzzles the crook of your neck.

Before you can even open your mouth in an attempt to apologize she starts talking, “Don't you dare apologize. It’s not your fault, love.”

You can’t help the chuckle that interrupts your sobs, she knows you through and through.

“You want to talk about it, babycakes? I’ll listen. Let me be here for you please,” She pleads, just wanting to calm your painful sobs, just wanting to put a smile back on your perfect face. Her own eyes start to tear up, and she sniffles quietly.

You hug her a bit tighter, nodding your head. Once your tears calm down a bit, you tell her. You relay some of the events of the past that have scarred you to this day.

And with everything you say Mina continues to reassure you, kissing all over your face and hair. She continues holding you, not letting up for even a second. It means the world to you, just the fact that she’s being serious about it for you. She’s genuinely trying for you, and it makes a small smile light up your face as you finish retelling your past.

“There’s that gorgeous smile I love to see!” She says, a bright grin lighting up her face which just causes you to smile more.

“What would I do without you, Mina.” You say lovingly, as she wipes your eyes for hopefully the last time of the night.

Her smile turns loving as she gives you a small, gentle kiss.

“Let’s not find out, babycakes. You’re just gonna have to be stuck with me.”

Well, you couldn’t complain with her on that note.

BKDK Analysis

The U.A Entrance Exam

After the sludge incident, Izuku began a 10 month training with All Might to make his body more suitable to inherit One For All. Although his classmates and teachers continued to poke fun at his dream to become a student at U.A, Katsuki has altogether shut him out. During those grueling ten months before the exam, there’s almost no interaction between them.

Katsuki is obviously dealing with the incident in his own way. Despite being praised by the pros for his incredible strength and bravery at dealing with the sludge villain, he couldn’t get the image of Izuku trying to help him out of his mind.

It becomes painfully obvious that the reason Katsuki was bullying Izuku was because of his selfless tendencies

By the time the entrance exam arrives, Katsuki still isn’t as invested in tormenting Izuku despite having to sit next to each other because they’re the only two from the same school that applied to take the exam.

This is an intelligently written interaction between the two that reveals an important factor in Katsuki’s growing character:

He’s more self aware than we first thought.

The bully-bullied trope is often grossly exaggerated and almost never has any useful depth to it, the bully torments the bullied because of their own insecurity and there’s almost zero nuance to it which explains why a lot of Bakugou and BKDK antis are stuck on the first ep after nearly 5 seasons of bnha. In this interaction, Katsuki is no longer actively trying to crush Izuku’s dreams or self esteem.

The difference here is that Katsuki used an outward factor (Izuku’s quirklessness) to target an internal one (selfless and self sacrifice) unlike the rest of Izuku’s classmates who only focused on the fact he was quirkless. It’s something we rarely see in a bully-bullied dynamic and adds the beautiful missing depth to their complicated relationship. If you miss this detail, you miss out on nearly ALL of Katsuki’s growth throughout the series.

You could argue that Katsuki’s bullying is a twisted way of him looking out for Izuku. Bakugou believes that power is everything, and without power you can’t win, and without winning you can’t be a great hero, none of these things were within Izuku’s capabilities as far as he was concerned.

In the anime, the actual quote Katsuki used to justify his bullying was ‘Someone’s gotta teach that idiot how the world works.’

Whatever the reason, it surely doesn’t excuse that he’s bullied the poor boy to the point that he instinctively flinches.

In the exam results, Katsuki and Izuku are revealed as polar opposites. While Katsuki stacked his points by destroying faux villains only, Izuku earned his place by once again acting in self-sacrifice and saving Uraraka without being able to bring down a single faux villain that was worth any points.

This is symbolic of their views on heroism, Katsuki loves winning through the use of his rare power, and Izuku can’t help but want to save anyone he sees in need of it. Now, Izuku has a hold of that power, but I feel his sacrificial, martyr like tendencies were severely overlooked by All Might at the time. I also believe Katsuki played a major role in solidifying that aspect of Izuku’s personality, although Izuku was surely born with the selfless trait, Katsuki’s bullying may have contributed to turning that part of him into what could be considered an illness.

After learning that they both were accepted into U.A, Katsuki corners Izuku to get an explanation. Izuku has a burst of confidence and stands up to Katsuki, something Katsuki finds odd. It’s the first sign of Izuku’s growth and how he slowly becomes the infamous manga Deku.

I think what Katsuki meant when he said he was surprised Izuku stood up for himself was that Izuku almost never does anything for himself, but rather jumps at the chance to stand up for others like he did when they were children. Izuku doesn’t typically talk back when he’s being personally targeted because he often thinks he’s less important than others, a pattern that will become increasingly fatal to him later.

「Headcanons of Midoriya, Bakugou, and Aizawa with S/O who has a teleporting quirk.」

MIDORIYA IZUKU

♤ Nerd boy regrets not having his book with him during training because he was so amazed with your abilities. Midoriya was watching you intensely. Even as you trained, you could feel that you were being watched very closely. It made you kind of nervous. He looked like he has to absorb as much as he could, and learn from you. How do you move your body? How do you take breaths? He seemed determined to learn all of that from watching you. Eventually, you tell him that he could just ask you directly instead of sneaking around and stalking you.

♤ Midoriya here is probably how you manage to get to know all your weaknesses. He is one curious boy and has a lot of questions that you never actually thought about. He asked how if there was a limit to how much you could carry. And he tested a few theories. First, he assumed it was amount then he assumed it was based on weight, turns out it was the latter. He makes a lot of assumptions and has you testing out a few things out of curiosity. You have brought him to the top of a building to show off your training results, teleporting short distances and slowly making your way down. Let's say, he was scared stiff.

♤ He's always looking into different methods on how he could improve his quirk. With you, he could train his reflexes. You would use your quirk to teleport a few objects at him and he would use try to catch them. Sometimes it was hand to hand combat with no quirks involved. But he loves watching your use your quirk, it reminds him of how much of an amazing person you are. Of course, its not only because of your quirk that he thought you were amazing. You were a strong individual, capable of defending yourself and protecting others.

♤ Please don’t surprise him too much because he has a weak heart. He screams when you spook him and it attracts a lot of attention, you find it funny at times but sometimes you feel bad especially when you surprise him while he’s holding a few things in hand. He claims that he gets used to it but he still lets out those adorable squeaks when you show up in his room all of a sudden. Sometimes you give him a heads up, telling him that you’re coming over in a second but he can't help but jump a bit at your sudden appearance.

BAKUGOU KATSUKI

☆ Being able to teleport yourself and anything in possession a certain distance in the blink of an eye was a very strong quirk. That was what Bakugou thought. Not only were you able to teleport yourself and objects that you touch but you can change their resulting orientation. In addition to that, you could teleport objects inside designated targets. The main reason you passed the entrance exam was by flipping over robots and teleporting rubble into the robot which resulted in explosions and malfunctioning.

☆ This guy underestimates you at first, assuming that you would be using your quirk to avoid combat as much as possible but was taken by surprise during your first fight against each other. You had teleported right behind him, grabbing his arms and quickly subduing him. Let's say, you broke the world record to 'How fast you can take Bakugou Katsuki down'. He demands a rematch and you two build an interesting dynamic and relationship from there. It started with training sessions which slowly developed into hangouts.

☆ Bakugou has a hard time dealing with you. You had great control of your quirk and you barely have any weaknesses. Of course, there's a limit to how fast you can teleport. There's a one-second lag when consecutively using her power in fights leaving you vulnerable in that one-second interval before teleporting again. Even so, it's hard to get the timing right to land a hit. But he's a great observer and instead of thinking about your quirk's weaknesses, he took advantage of your habits to win against you.

☆ This guy absolutely hates it when you use your quirk to surprise him. It's very effective and never fails to catch him by surprise since you basically disappear and reappear. You often use this to pull pranks and when you're really lazy. He has to admit that it's a very convenient quirk to have. He remembered that one time you both went grocery shopping and just had too much to carry home. When the dorms were within your range, you instantly used your quirk to teleport back inside.

AIZAWA SHOUTA

♡ Never really cares that much about what kind of quirk you would have. It's because there's more than quirks to a person anyway. But he can't deny that he thinks that your quirk was a really cool one. Being able to move from one place to another with ease? He would want to have a quirk like that because it will make his life so much easier. Aizawa is a lazy person and he would use your quirk for pointless tasks that can be done without your quirk.

♡ If you're a hero, he would be kind of worried to be honest. Despite having such a powerful quirk, you weren't that strong and you're taken by surprise, you would be very vulnerable. But with you on the heroes' side, the rescue has never been much easier. Even though you were not the power type, all you had to do is touch the person to be able to activate your quirk. Of course, you had your limits and were only able to carry around 200kg of things or people using your quirk. Even so, it was a very convenient quirk that has saved his ass countless of times.

♡ He doesn't really react that much when he's surprised. Unlike most people who would jump, yelp or maybe scream in surprise, Aizawa would probably just flinch. You had surprised him a couple of times, dropping by his apartment unannounced. He never really minded and he eventually got used to your suddenly coming by without giving him a heads up. The only time you shouldn't be surprising him is when he's sleeping because this man values his sleep okay? Have you seen him? He looks like he hasn't slept in a month so let the man sleep as much as he can. Aizawa is going to be in a bad mood for an entire day if you surprise him while he's sleeping which abruptly wakes him up from his precious sleep.

♡  You bet that he's gonna make you use your quirk for something really ridiculous. You remembered that you were standing in the kitchen, making his coffee. Aizawa was busy grading papers and most of it was scattered around the couch and on the floor. He asked if you could bring it to him which resulted in you using your quirk to do it for you. Over time, he would request the most ridiculous things, like removing his clothes because he's just too damn lazy to even lift his arms. Most of the time, he's just messing around with you but its hard to tell when he's saying it all with a straight face.

What If- and just hear me out for a second- redbone bojack horseman au.

Deku is Sarah Lynn (his job and giving up on his dreams really fucked him up, he mostly uses drugs as a way to cope with everything happening around him. Bakugou was the one that introduced him to alcohol for the first time when they were kids, bragging to his "friends" about drinking his mothers vodka once and calling Deku a cry baby for not wanting to try, Izuku drank, mostly out of anxiety and ended up getting drunk. Bakugou and his friend dragged him home and said that they found Izuku like that (inko lectured him a lot about It but Izuku couldnt bring himself to snitch) which was the start of his addiction.)

The story could pass through Bakugous pov mostly, still being a murder mistery, but with oh so much more angst. Kirishima gives me Todd vibes, so unfortunely for him Bakugou also isnt that good to him. He always assumes kirishima os an extra and didnt bother learning about his life until It was of interest to him. I think that the betrayal that happened in bojack horseman on the first season wouldve happened back in UA, Kirishima told bakugou about his insecurities (mostly with his quirk) and about this wonderful internship opportunity, Bakugou got scared of kiri leaving him once he made a name for himself and made him fail/miss the Interview (idk If he would Just make fake accounts and Bully kiri online so his anxiety was so high he wouldnt be able to do good or If he would just mix up kiris papers in order for him to miss the Interview).

Aizawa is a mixture of princess Carolyn and basicallly every single person on the show who noticed patterns and behaviors, but didnt do antything, hes an enabler. I woudl say later, when he realizes just how bad his ignorance affected those around him he would probably regret It, but for now him caring for Eri and the fact his students are already adults is the excuse he uses to not confront people. Thats not to say he isnt a good father, just like princess Carolyn he had a hard time adjusting parenting with work (he secretly has always wanted a child of his own, but never thought he would get the chance to have one) and pretends to give his child the childhood he never had.

Bakugou isnt the only 'villain' tho, i think It would be unfair to base the whole au around him or anyone in particular (many actions of bojack and character arcs will be displayed in different characters) Bakugou is a mixture of herb kazzaz and a side of bojack horseman. Shinsou was a dear friend to him (Hitoshi noticed the way he treated people, but never really cared) back in the first year of UA, they were rival-friends sort of deal. Shinsou introduced him to drugs, and a similar situation that happened with kid deku happened with teenage Bakugou, katsuki got caught and basically begged Shinsou to give out his dealers contact, otherwise Bakugou would be assumed to have been dealing and selling the drugs himself (seeing the large amount found back at his dorm room) hitoshi said he would do it, but Aizawa put quite a pression on him to deny anything, and thats exactly what he did. Bakugou was almost expelled and got a big red mark on his curriculum. He did save Kota on the Summer camp, and give quite some good advice.

The Bojack drug would probably be called Dynamight.

Shinsou is basicallly another side of bojack and Diane together (severely depressed, basically) , he has addiction problems (many times pushed people to get involved too) and has a deep self hatred, but still tries his best to be a better person. The problem is, hes still selfish and cynical, mainly the person at fault for Todoroki having had to go through rehab on his early 20's and many times inviting Izuku to do drugs together even though he knows just how bad dekus addiction is. He loves and cares for Eri like a little sister, and genuely tries to help Todoroki, but unfortunely good intentions dont mean good actions. Not to say he doesn't do anything selfless or good, he never pressioned Todoroki after rehab (neither Izuku after he became sober (Bakugou would be the one to lead him to his death)) and gives pretty good advice when hes sober. His biggest dream is to do sonething with his life, to make the world a little bit better. Hes quite intellegent and informed in todays affairs (him and Izuku have plenty of good convos and Todoroki isnt an ignorant fool mainly because of him). He worked on a case that investigated the hero comission and risked his entire career to try to expose a bit of Injustice, even If he wasnt sucefull he was still willing to risk It all for his morals.

Holyhock's arc could go through Todorokis eyes, he never quite forgave his mom and she was much more cruel than in canon, Rei would start showing signs of dementia very early in her life. Endeavor cheated quite a lot and had a illegitamet (idk how to spell) child with a side kick. He became sober ever since rehab and lived quite a good life, even with some shitty actions and shitty people around him. Things started to go down after his mom showed up and only worsened once she had to live with him.

And although Redbone characters are not as deep as Bojack's (or maybe not as realistic as Bojack's), some behavioral patterns can be found between these two anyway.

Finally done with this chapter and this arc. Can’t believe I have an entire post that’s just about Tsukauchi Naomasa. The discord server is so happy. There’s a lot of Naomasa love in there, and I mean, can you blame them? Dude is the straight man in a world of shounen bullshit. Gotta respect his ability to take everything happening in stride.

[No. 21 - In Each of Our Hearts]

We have brief passage of time wherein the police arrive at the USJ. We see Tsukauchi doing a headcount of the students while Sansa is directing the other police in containing and leading the villains out of the building. Naomasa is able to determine that, aside from the one with the messed up legs (Izuku), all of the students are unharmed. As if to confirm this, we get some wide shots of the class in two panels, showing everyone to be perhaps roughed up, but not really injured.

Hagakure puts her hand on Ojiro’s shoulder, commenting on how he’d ended up in the fire zone, and on his own at that, with a small congratulations. Ojiro admits he’d thought everyone was alone, and that he’d only survived with hit-and-run tactics. He then asks Hagakure where she was, and she points out Todoroki before stating she’d been in the landslide area, and that Todoroki’s crazy strong. We see Todoroki and his worry that he could have frozen her, while Ojiro in the background just says that he’s glad she’s okay.

Aoyama, of course, then tries to take center stage. Aoyama seems like he’s about to reveal where he’d been, but then turns to the other students to ask them if they have any ideas. 

He first tries the group consisting of Tokoyami, Koda, Kirishima, and Kaminari, but all of them are busy with a conversation. Tokoyami makes a comment on how he guesses ‘those lowlifes’ were spread out, waiting for them. Kirishima slams a fist into the palm of his other hand and complains about how the villains had been looking down on them because they were kids.

Then he turns to Tsuyu, asking her where she thinks he was. She plays along for a bit, asking him where, only for Aoyama to dramatically turn away and pose while stating that it’s a secret. Tsuyu turns her attention back to Tsukauchi, completely uninterested in his shenanigans. 

Tsukauchi states that they (likely meaning the police and pro heroes) are going to get the students back to the classroom for now, and that this is no time to take their statements. Tsuyu asks after Aizawa, and Naomasa gives her the details - both arms smashed to splinters, face is fractured. Thankfully, there’s no brain damage, but his eye sockets have been pulverized, so there’s a chance he may suffer long-term loss of vision - or so he hears. He seems to be on a call with the hospital at the time, or perhaps the station where all of this cleanup and investigation are being processed.

This is not exactly the welcome news Tsuyu or Mineta were looking for, both of them looking pretty torn up over it.

Tsukauchi continues down the list of injuries - Thirteen has terrible lacerations across her back and upper arms, but her life isn’t in danger. All Might’s injuries aren’t life threatening either; it’s likely that Recovery Girl’s healing will be enough for him, so he’s gone off to the nurse’s office instead. 

Ochako and Tenya, basically in unison, ask after Izuku, worry etched across their faces. Naomasa takes a second to place the name, but confirms that Izuku also made it to the nurse’s office in time. He then states that he happens to have business there himself, so he’ll leave the rest of the cleanup to Sansa. Sansa gives a salute and confirmation. 

(Meanwhile, Ochako and Ashido are both puzzled because Sansa’s not a dog. Don’t be rude, girls.)

Nedzu notes that UA will need to completely revamp their security systems. Midnight adds on how teleportation quirks are rare enough, and that it’s a shame one of them had to go and turn villain. 

Another officer shows up to report to Tsukauchi, stating that they’ve apprehended what seems to be a villain in a thicket about 400 meters from the USJ. Tsukauchi asks what condition the villain is in, and the officer states that the villain seems unharmed, and that he didn’t resist arrest. He also adds that, oddly enough, the villain isn’t responding in any way, and appears to be mute.

Tsukauchi turns to Nedzu, asking for the opportunity to go over the school with a fine tooth comb. Nedzu gives him the go-ahead, saying that some won’t be happy, but the police certainly have jurisdiction. He notes that investigations are Tsukauchi’s field of expertise, so he can do what he feels is necessary.

We transition to the nurse’s office, with Izuku and Toshinori both stuck in bedrest. And honestly, I just cannot get over how tall Toshinori is, like.

Look at that. If he picked up Izuku for a hug, Izuku’s feet would maybe reach his knees. 

Anyways. Plot. Yes. Recovery Girl tells the two of them that, the situation being what it was, she can’t really scold them this time. Toshinori says that he thinks he’s probably shortened his time limit again, and that he’ll be lucky if he can still get an hour a day. Izuku’s worried about him, but Toshinori shoves himself up into a sitting position with a groan, shrugging it off with a ‘what can you do? Bad things happen.’

The nurse’s office door opened, Tsukauchi letting himself in with an apology for the intrusion/interruption. He greets Toshinori as an old friend, while Toshinori’s surprised Tsukauchi is here. Izuku shoots up into a seated position, worried about if it’s okay for Toshinori to be seen while he’s not buffed up. Toshinori says it’s fine, then gets a bit silly about his introduction of Tsukauchi to Izuku.

Tsukauchi calling him out on the weird intro though. Like I said, this man really puts up with so much shounen-world bullshit as the straight man. 

Tsukauchi then bring up his reason for stopping by - not to rush Toshinori or anything, but he’d like to ask about the villains. Toshinori interrupts him to ask if the students are alright, as well as Aizawa and Thirteen. Tsukauchi’s quiet for a moment, before huffing a laugh. He says that besides Izuku, the students have nothing more than a few bumps and bruises. The two teachers are also out of danger for now. If the three hadn’t put their lives on the line, the students wouldn’t have made it out unscathed.

Toshinori acknowledges the report, but tells Tsukauchi he’s got one thing wrong, which draws a surprised frown from him. Toshinori goes on to explain how in that fight, the students put their lives on the line too. To be thrown into a real battle so young and survive - now these first years know how scary the wider world can be. Has he ever heard of such a class? The villains picked the wrong fight, because the members of class 1a are going to be might heroes indeed - and he’s going to make sure of it.

All Might really does have completely faith in this class, it’s incredible. 

As an aside, I know it’s probably a small editing mistake, but Izuku lying back down in one panel just to be back up in a seated position the next one is just. Fucking hilarious.

As a last weird bit. Tsukauchi just. Tapping his ear here? Either that’s a teeny foreshadowing of the quirk the fandom believes he has, or it’s just. A really weird gesture. 

(I want to clarify, for people who aren’t aware of it, but Horikoshi has never actually confirmed that Tsukauchi has a truth-sensing quirk. His sister’s quirk, which is touch-based lie detection, is confirmed in the Vigilantes side manga, but not his!)

We get some narration as time passes - classes were cancelled the next day (Thursday), but the class couldn’t rest easy. After that (presumably the day after, which would be Friday), we come back to all of the class waiting for morning homeroom to start. Tenya is vibrating as he directs the class, stating that morning homeroom’s about to begin, so everyone to their seats. Sero points out that everyone else is sitting, and that he’s the only one up. 

The classroom door opens to reveal a heavily bandaged Aizawa, who gives them a brief greeting as he wobbles his way in. The class is shocked that he’s back already, calling him an undeniable pro. Tenya, who finally is in his seat, snaps his hand up as he states he’s glad to see him doing well, which Ochako mutters about whether you can really call that ‘doing well.’

Aizawa shakes his head, stating that his welfare isn’t important, because their fight is far from over. The class is confused at that statement, with Katsuki, Izuku, and Mineta all questioning his statement. Aizawa clarifies himself - UA’s sports festival is fast approaching.

The class gasps, clamoring about how that’s so totally ordinary.

And with that, we’ve wrapped up the chapter and the USJ arc. I’ll probably do a few side posts before moving on to said arc, since the sports festival is 23 chapters long (ch 22-44) - longer than everything that’s happened up to this point in the manga!

'You Make My Heart Beat' Part 3 - Deku x Reader

Summary: Your friendship grew but then, he disappeared with the words that came out of his lips being, "Please, stay safe".

How many years has it been since you last cut your hair? One. Only one if you can recall. When was the last time you saw your best friend as he walked you inside the dorms to UA? About 3 years. He had gone missing for that many years. No one knows what happened to him, not even his mother who was the last to see him that very night. You had been contacted in the morning by her and she sounded very worried, alarming you right away when she asked if you had see Izuku or if he was with you. He was not. The last memory of him was him telling you to stay safe.

At that time, yes, it was worrisome but it was your best friend who was gone, disappeared. Even when you got the called from Izuku's mother, you were standing around the living area that morning with your classmates before class, when they heard you mutter out, "Izuku is not with you?". They all stayed silent with everyone looking at each other.

You quickly went over to his dorm room, searching for him. You wanted to make sure he was there, that he was okay and what you had been feeling before was not a warning sign.

Even knocking on the door didn't bring him out. You tried the handle and it was unlocked, pushing through it but it was empty. No one was here. Some of his figures were still here, and it looked like he recently had been here as his books were stacked all across his desk. Even the covers on his bed were moved a bit as if someone had been sitting there. It had caught you off guard but did it really? You saw it coming, or more like you felt it in your gut. You knew something was wrong, you knew he was acting strange but you couldn't figure it out. It wasn't obvious but his mannerisms, those were much obvious to anyone who talked to him.

You blamed yourself because he was hurting and you didn't take the chance to ask, but you had asked. You asked him but you were quickly put at ease even when you felt like it wasn't true. At the same time, you didn't know the circumstances would get this far.

It clearly wasn't your fault but you continued to blame yourself. You could have done more to help him, made sure he got home, and even offered him out to eat at least. Anything to get him from feeling alone.

No matter how much you thought about Izuku, it wasn't going to bring him back. You held onto the thought that he was alive, that nothing happened to him, but as your daily routine of patrolling the city had been extended because of a hero who had an emergency and had gone home, you had encountered something. Someone suspiciously looking around the area then a massive explosion erupted. A few characters had jumped down from the top of a building, a few villains thought it was a good idea to cause a ruckus this early in the morning. You had quickly run to where the explosion had detonated but it had occurred to you that these villains were some you haven't seen before, or even seen any type of report, to begin with.

”Oh, a hero, ” One had spoken, their hooded face was still slightly visible but nothing that indicated who he was. It was hard to tell and even when their smile was visible to you at this distance. He had moved a few steps forward, slowly grabbing at his hood and showing his face. No matter how much you had prepared or not, regardless, the strike of pain you had felt in your chest was unbearable. You had no room to cry, no movement in your body that could get you out of this situation. Even if you wanted to, you are a hero, and you have sworn to protect the people of this city and any other person of this world, but how could you right now.

“Izu..” His face contorted in disgust, and it was notable now the scar he had on his cheek. Those things weren’t the only thing different from him, his clothing and the way his eyes had stared back at you, pain and sorrow, and even hate.

“It’s still funny to hear that name almost come out of your mouth... Y/n.” His eyes narrowed your direction, sending chills down your spine as he motioned his goons to split with just one hand motion. He got closer, his arms opening up as if he was lightly praying but he wasn’t looking up. He looked at you with a mischievous smile as if wondering. “Kaachan looked exactly like you.” A chuckle came out of his lips, but you refused to move, clearly out of fear. Reality had quickly set and you couldn’t turn anything back.

“Izuku... what happened,” You asked in a quivering tone and replied to you, not before he puffed in annoyance towards you.

“Can we please get rid of that name? It rings in my ears each time I hear it.” Now he was right in front of you and you quickly tried taking a step back but he caught your arms, gripping them lightly as he spun you in place. His hands had moved down to yours, intertwining with them and staring back with that same smile as before. “Don’t want you falling, do you?” His speaking patterns, his voice, his now sweet face had become distorted in your memories. It wasn’t him. Someone had to be messing with you. He couldn’t be standing here in front of you looking like he killed someone.

You quickly shook off his grip and he quickly let go. “What happened to you, Izuku!” He was becoming more unpleased with you. He. Had clearly told you to stop calling him Izuku. He didn’t want to be involved with his past anymore, especially the people who fooled him, thinking this world would be changed.

“I’ve told you not to call me by that name.”

“Then tell me what happened! Why are you here talking nonsense!? Your mom was so broken, worried for you, looking for you because she thought someone had kidnapped you. She started to blame herself for letting you go back to UA, and it hurt me too, Izuku! My best friend was suddenly gone after he told me to stay safe and what was I suppose to think then, huh?!” Your tears had begun to drip down, staining your cheeks and making the bags under your eyes, bright red. “Y-you couldn’t have become..” His straight face had given you the answer without really doing much aside from smile softly to your reaction of utter disbelief.

“It’s crazy how much time can really change someone, especially when that person was supposed to be the one you cared for.” You had widened your eyes slightly, looking confused.

“I had always cared-“

“As much as I want to continue the back and forth games, I have no time for you right now. I seriously did not have it in my plans to deal with another hero, and that includes my beloved, Y/n.” With one last villainous smile, he had quickly taken off, but you had started to run. You ran after him but you couldn’t catch up at all. He was faster than before, smarter, and calculative but it didn’t take away how much it broke you to see him like this. He was getting away again, your hand stretching out to reach him but as quickly as he came, he had disappeared. 

At that moment, you couldn’t help but stop and cry.

“He was standing right in front of me, do you guys not understand?! He was so close that I could reach out and touch him!” You explained so frantically that Shouto was lightly putting his hands in front of him to calm you down but he couldn’t even get near you. You would pull away, walk around as if desperate. You were desperate but the thoughts ran through your body as if it was waiting to explode. You were scared and in pain. Katsuki had been staring back at you, silently trying to figure out what to do to help you. Was there really anything to help you at this moment?

"Y/n, please, take it easy. Worrying won't do anything good for you," Shouto had told you but you just threw your hand through your hair, inhaling and letting it out in a long breath.

"What can I do aside from worry?" You asked him, your eyes were looking down at the floor, the red carpet of Endeavor's office, somehow reflecting the color of Izuku's eyes even if it was his usual green eyes that stared back at you. No matter how painful it felt to remember, you couldn't forget. He needs help and you were determined to do something about it.

No one had responded to your previous question, lingering in the air as you began to walk out of the room. "Are you really planning to go out there looking for him?" Katsuki's question did make you look back, the seriousness in your eyes telling everything he needed to know. "Then, for once, let us help you."

"Thank you, Katsuki." His hum was light as he responded but he quickly took action, ordering Shouto to call his father and some of the pro heroes to help in search of the kid. Almight also deserved to know, is what Katsuki had said to you before walking off in opposite directions to hunt down the green hair boi, not knowing that he had completely disappeared again. So many hours had passed and no sign of him. He knew that you would come looking for him again. He knew you and he knew he was that important to you because he has known you for many years. You never failed to tell him how important he was, and that included his saddest moments.

Y/N: "Have you seen any trace of any villains? I haven't been able to find any activity regarding disturbances."

Bakugou: "Where ever that fucker hid, he must have pulled back the villains too. He seems to be operating a small group of people."

Shouto: "How about the outside area?"

Iida: "Nothing out here that I can report. I have been running around the areas where villains are most likely to appear for good measure but it seems like they had retreated here too."

Even with bigger cover of the city, using radios to contact each other, no one was able to find him. How the hell was he able to hide so effectively when someone should have found them at this point? You bit your lip out of frustration, not realizing that your lip began to bleed from the nerves building inside you.

The only way you will be able to find him would be to think like Izuku. He is a smart kid, tactful, and very quick to react. If anything, he must have pulled back when he saw you. It would mean he had ample time to hide the people who are working for him.

You had enough after hours of searching, taking breaks, and asking for help, you decided to call it day and search again tomorrow. It was almost 11 and you had passed your working hours today so you went back to the agency to report back all that had happened today. Everyone else did the same, exhausted from the amount of walking and ground covered.

"Are you sure you'll be okay, Y/n?" Todoroki had asked you before you had left. You assured him that you were, confident enough that you will be able to see him, or at least, find him again in no time. Todoroki had given you a really odd expression but you had brushed it off and said your goodbyes.

You were finally home, your feet sore and your head full of mush from thinking and worrying for Izuku. No matter how much time had passed, you couldn't shake off the thought of seeing Izuku back to the way he was. He was gentle, weird, so out there, but just shy and had the issue of shuttering a lot. He was so strong and you had no idea how much you had admired your friend up until now. A smile spread across your face, the now distant memories fading away as you walked into your room and into the bathroom to shower before heading to bed. You dried your hair, sighing loudly and throwing yourself onto the bed to finally relax before having to search again for your friend.

You had realized something though. It was a bit odd to have come into your house with it being clean and your bed made when you hadn't had the time to do so. The covers were up to your neck as you wiggled a bit in place and realized...

Someone had been there.

Someone was in here in your home, unless they had left once you had entered the house, and you were too afraid to even look around the room. You had felt someone here. If you pretended to go to sleep, maybe you can catch them by surprise and take them down. But your heart was racing. You were afraid of who it was, and something told you it was him. It had to be.

"Don't sleep on me just yet, Y/n-chan~" Your body had begun to shake, flinching almost, as your now trembling hands lifted you up slowly, trying to keep yourself composed. Your eyes trailed to him with his eyes looking straight into yours as if he has been analyzing you. They moved around, landing on what seems to be a bat right next to your bed. Depending on the quirk of the person, sometimes you couldn’t protect yourself and you were one of them. Your quirk was more from “the shadows” type of deal and it made it hard to use it in front of other people for training, or even villains without a proper distance. But Izuku was the one in front of you and you couldn’t help but feel fear, and no matter what, you couldn’t stop seeing him as your old friend.

His walk becoming more confident as he came to you, his now then messy hair looking bizarre. His hand-covered glove touching your cheek as he sat down next to you on the bed but his eyes didn’t look at you anymore. He made sure they were looking at your hands and not letting them move anywhere near a potential weapon. He held your hands in his, squeezing them lightly and smiling softly.

“I can not get over how beautiful you still are, Y/n-chan.” He complimented you, his grip tightening and his smile becoming sickening, painful to even look at. His ears are sharper now, and his eyes were still reflecting evil intent. You sat there in fear as he got up again, taking the bat into his hands and tossed it aside. “It's better to keep distractions at a distance, no?”

Panic set in. Your hands shook, your eyes looked around for a place to escape, but he knew your every move. You tried getting out of bed but he put his hands on your shoulders, sitting you back down with the same smile from before. "Hey, it's almost your bedtime, how about we talk a little before then?"

You instinctively shook your head and his expression changed. It looked in pain but he made sure to change it quickly. "I thought after all these years you would have loved to hear about me?"

"No. N-no! I did! I do!"

"Then, let's talk." It fell silent, his eyes tracing the features on your face as yours looked down at your hands, fidgeting them around, but as you thought more to yourself, you realized he shouldn't be here.

"You wanted to talk to me... didn't you, Izuku?" Your question came out as a soft whisper. He didn't acknowledge it so you continued. "I've missed you. Where did you go?"

He was silent for a while. Somehow, his old self was now visible to you, his eyes softening and his hands grabbing yours again, this time with gentleness. "I came to see you, multiple times. After all, you were the only one who really cared for me."

"But why. Why are you with the villains? We could have helped you, or-"

"NO!" You flinched to his sudden outburst and he quickly composed himself. "I-i... I don't want your pity."

"Well, I wanna-"

"Y/n?" Someone yelled out your name, knocking on the door of your house, echoing from the silence between you and Izuku. He looked angry, irritated that he got up and walked to your window. He swiftly opened it and without another glance or stare, he jumped out quickly, with no chance to even say his name. You had gotten up to see the outside of your window empty. He was quick, you knew that, but he disappeared faster than a shadow. You were just getting comfortable and now, he is gone again, and who knows if you'll ever see him again.

"Hey, I was knocking a few times, I'm sorry I woke you up, but it's an emergency." It was Kirishima who was alone but he was suited up for some reason, making you wonder that the reason he came over was to inform you about Izuku.

"No, it's fine. I was just getting to bed. What is that you needed?" You weren't positive if it was a good idea to say anything about your old friend coming into your room late at night, or if you should keep it to yourself. It's not like it wasn't important information but you were scared that they will catch him. You started to worry about his safety when you, in reality, probably shouldn't.

"We have spotted some villains wondering the streets down your street and we assumed Izuku had been close. Have you heard anything?"

Maybe you should say something now. You mustered up the courage to say yes. You didn't explain why he was here, but you told him that as soon as he had knocked on the door, he had disappeared. He will tell the others but you didn't care because to you, it's the way to help your friend. Talking to him today showed you he was there, still the same Izuku. You wanted him back.

You lost him before, you're not planning to lose him again. After all, you loved him too much to let him go.

BNHA: something sad (Grief)

Summary: The last time Katsuki sees Izuku alive the other boy is rushing to save him. A ‘the Sludge Villain incident gone wrong’ AU.

Katsuki knows he has a volatile personality, probably inherited it from his mum, and enough attitude that he has steamrolled his way through life without much difficulty. Things annoyed him easily and he got irritable at the drop of a hat. He has enough self-awareness to recognise that as a flaw, even if he had never seen it as much of a problem. 

There was a difference between irritation and anger. Deku had always made him angry, inducing a burning hot sensation that ate at his insides. Now Deku was gone and he couldn't turn any of it off. It was like the world was suck behind a filthy pane of glass that he couldn’t smash through no matter how hard he tried.

Katsuki watches the head of his Kamui Woods figurine bend at an odd angle as the plastic began to superheat, having been exposed to a string of minor blasts. He had been slowly working his way through his figurine collection as both quirk training and to take the edge off his anger. Melting this figurine was particularly cathartic. 

“Perhaps we should look into getting you some new hobbies.”

Katsuki shifts his focus to glare at his father who stands at his bedroom door, an expression of worry pulling at his features. No surprises there, worry was his father’s default response to anything Katsuki did these days.

 “Not interested.”

“Something to get you out of the apartment,” his father continues to which  Katsuki narrows his eyes. He wouldn’t be in the apartment if he had any say in it. Both his parents know this. 

“Some physical activity where you’ll be able to let loose without having to worry about property damage. I have a colleague whose brother runs a kickboxing studio. I can make arrangements for you to spend time…” 

“I said, I’m not interested,” he grumbles, returning to his current distraction.

“Well, I want you to think about it,” his dad instructs, “It would do you a lot of good and it’s something you’re passionate about….” 

The figurine Katsuki is holding begins to blacken, colours melting away under his tiny, controlled bursts. There is an unhappy sigh from his father and the sound of footsteps retreating down the hall. He growls and the figurine explodes with a small Bang. Melted plastic is flung across his walls and floor. 

He knows what his dad is trying to do…

How many times had he begged his parents for better training opportunities, for karate or boxing lessons, only to be denied due to money restraints? Outside of a few judo lessons he had received as a birthday gift from Inko one year, any combat training he did he had been self-taught. 

Now he’s no longer interested, his parents are practically threatening him with extracurricular activities. 

It’s fucking annoying is what it is. 

He reaches for another figurine only to find that he has none left aside from his limited edition All Might collection.  He lets out an angry breath, trying to rid himself of his restless irritation. It doesn’t work, and he ends up standing so he can pace back and forth, listening to the pop, pop, focusing on his tingling skin as sparks run up and down his arms. It keeps him distracted for all of two seconds. 

Usually, he would be at the library studying, or going on long runs and working on his physical conditioning. Sometimes, he would meet up with a few of the loser-extras from school and they would visit an arcade. Recently, he had taken to wandering through the streets around his neighbourhood, waiting for something to piss him off enough that his mind would white-out in pure rage and could forget reality for a few seconds. Obviously, that had become a lot harder after several run-ins with the local police had had him all but permanently grounded outside of school hours. 

This is what he wanted… he remains himself. His plan to piss people off enough that he received some iota of punishment was working like a charm so, of course, it sucked. He hated it, but then, he hated all the alternatives as well so what did any of it matter. 

Katsuki ends up with his ear pressed against the door, listening for activity in the living room, waiting for an opportunity to make a break for it. He needs to be careful because Aunt Inko is visiting and the last thing he wants is to see her stupid, sympathetic smile. 

When it sounds like the coast is clear, he creeps out, stealing down the hall. Muffled voices from the kitchen are all the encouragement he needs to beeline for the door and slip out before anyone can spot him. He’ll be in trouble for this later. He’s counting on it. 

The hot summer air is a welcome change from the chill of air conditioning. There is the loud buzz of cicadas, chirping away in the sticky heat. He picks a direction and walks, not caring that he is wearing the sweatpants and the black singlet he had slept in. If someone has a problem with his presentation, he is more than willing to throw down. 

Unfortunately, the relief being out of the apartment brings is short-lived. Today, a feeling of discomfort follows after him which has nothing to do with the heat. A bubbling frustration that bites at his heels as he stalks the streets. It is that feeling he has come to associate with times when all his rage burns away, leaving him numb.  

He doesn’t plan to stop at the florists, he just sort of does. 

He turns suddenly into the store before he can properly process what he is doing. The chime on the glass door rings and the sickly-sweet smell of the store has his nose wrinkling. Before he can chicken out and retreat, he walks to the counter. 

“How much?” He snaps at the older lady in overalls manning the register, pointing at the nearest bunch of white flowers. He has no idea what type they are but that wasn’t the point wasn't it?

“Ah,” The woman squints at him, taken back “That depends how many you want?”

“I don’t care” He smacks the few yen he has on the counter, “However many that’ll get me. Don’t rip me off.”

 The woman nods slowly, “Do you just want these specifically? You don’t want to add some more colour to the bouquet? White is a bit of a dower colour.”

“Whatever is cheapest…just make it quick.” He is already regretting coming in.

The woman hums, pulling out a roll of paper, beginning to place and wrap the flowers Katsuki had pointed to. 

“Who are they for if I may ask?”

“No.”

“Oh? A special friend maybe,” She begins to tease.

“He’s dead,” he snaps abruptly, “and he’s not my friend. Just give me the damn flowers.” Why did people always make this shit more difficult than it needed to be?

The old hag is silent after that, awkwardly finalising his purchase which ends up being an assortment of white flowers with a few smaller yellow and red ones scattered between. It almost looks pretty and it is sickly-sweet smelling, just like the store.

He tries no to think about his destination as he walks with renewed deliberation. He doesn’t think about it right up until he is practically walking into the low stone wall nearest the gate. The shock of seeing the place has him freezing in place, breath catching. The last time he had been here had been during the funeral.

There are lines of thin, tightly packed, gave markers, rising horizontally on sets on uneven steps. There is barely room for people to pass between them on the narrow, flagstone path. Trees are scattered throughout the space, providing patches of uneven shade. The noise of the cicadas is louder here, almost oppressive in its throbbing hum.  For a moment, all he wants to do is walk up to the nearest stone and blow it all sky high. Then he would be sure to flatten every marker in the place until the land was a barren waste. That would get him arrested for sure. The thought passes quickly, and his eyes slide away from the cemetery to his flowers. They don’t look nearly as nice now he has almost strangled them with an unintentionally tight grip.

He breaths out, resisting the urge to set something on fire. Slowly, he walks up the steps, passing the small temple at the entrance. Deku is buried further in, his stone modest in size when compared to the others.

“Deku…” He grows out a greeting when he arrives and it gets caught in his throat. The stone, obviously, does not respond.

Before he can accidentally blow them up, he carefully places the flowers next to the small pile already adorning the small stone. There are more offerings than he expects to be there. He recognises a few of the names from school. One larger bunch looks especially expensive and elaborate, monopolising most of the limited surface space.

‘From Yagi Toshinori’ the card attached reads. Katsuki doesn’t recognise the name. 

He doesn’t know why he’s surprised, he didn’t know shit about Deku other than their shared ambition to be a hero.

“Deku…” Why the fuck is he having trouble talking, “You’re...” He stops.

 “You’re a fucking moron,” he manages to spit.

“I didn’t need you to save me.” The anger is burning so hot that its almost unbearable. Pop, pop, his hands fizzle. “I didn’t want your help.”

BANG! He makes sure the explosion is directed away from the stone and up into the sky. The small shock wave it produces rustles the flowers and nearby trees. All the cicadas stop chirping at once, plunging the area into an eerie quiet. His legs feel shaky and he is practically vibrating with anger. 

“What did you think a quirkless idiot could have done!”

Save his pathetic life while the real Heroes watch him suffocate from the side-lines? His brain supplies an answer. It was all a big joke wasn’t it? The bastards had all watched Deku die. That was what a Hero did apparently, wait for backup while someone died because it was safer for them. Safer for the Hero.

 His legs give way and he falls to his knees, curling his hands into fists, jaw locking up. Finally, the haze of anger falls away and his mind quietens. Everything was painfully clear now. People didn’t care when Katsuki yelled, swore, and hurt other kids, because his quirk was amazing, making him amazing. What a joke. If he hadn’t had his quirk, then the Slime Bastard would have had nothing to work with, and Deku might still be alive.

“I’m…I’m fucking sorry okay." He had always treated Deku like shit and he doesn’t think, if their positions had been reversed…he doesn’t think that he would have even thought about saving someone like himself.

The truth stings. He slams his fist into the flagstone next to him and he watches it crack.

"I’m sorry…”

He was lucky…that’s all he was… He wasn’t special… he was just an average human with a good work ethic and a garbage personality who just happened to have a powerful quirk.

He wasn’t a hero…well, not one like Deku had tried to be…like Deku had been…

He didn’t even want to be a hero...not anymore...He doesn’t know what he wants.

“Damnit…” the words have no heat behind them. The explosive rage that had been burning continuously in his chest for the last week simmers, snuffing out like a candle. There is a hole where his anger had eaten away at something fundamentally him, leaving empty space.

Katsuki leans forward, letting his head thump against the stone.
