Falcom has released new information and screenshots for The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki introducing new characters Risette Twinnings and Quatre Salison, as well as the cities of Langport and Basel, the companies Marduk Total Security Company and Verne Industrial Company, and the Xipha system.

A woman dressed in a maid outfit who works as a service concierge at Marduk Total Security Company.

While her pale green hair gives off a cold impression, she is actually very social and polite, and has a cute sense of humor.

Unlike her graceful appearance, she has superhuman strength, speed, and combat capabilities that at times surpass even seasoned bracers.

She maintains a “strictly business” relationship with Van, a Spriggan, by giving him weapons and exclusive Xipha apps free of charge, and in turn collects data from his usage as an external tester.

Quatre Salision

Age: 15

Weapon: Pulsegun and Orbal Drones

“Lets go FIO, XEROS—we have to protect the professor’s location.”

A young researcher attending a masters course at a science university at the age of 15.

His neatly trimmed silver hair and feminine face emit an atmosphere that makes him to approach.

His major is researching and developing “Orbal Drones” that use the new Xipha standard artificial intelligence, but he also helps out in the physical and bio engineering labs, and has a strong attachment to the observatory, which is the symbol of the university.

Due to certain circumstance as a child, he was adopted by Dr. Latoya Hamilton, “the mother of Orbal Revolution,” and as since cared for like his own grandmother and aspires to become a researcher himself.

Langport, the Shining Capital

A massive port city facing the south sea, also called Naju, located in South Calvard.

Langport’s scale is larger than Crossbell, the city of trade, and Ordice, the ocean capital, and in recent years has been often referred to as being “the second heart of the Republic” that symbolizes diversity.

Other than its business and shopping districts that house modern skyscrapers, it also has the largest Easterner Quarter in the continent, and is known as the “Shining Capital” due to its beautiful, glimmering night skyline.

Basel, the Industrial City

A city southwest of Calvard focused on industry and academics.

Basel has long been known for its history in natural scientific research, and is home to Basel Science University, which boasts its own observatory. In the Middle Ages, there was a craftsmen’s guild that helped forge machinery and equipment for architecture, irrigation, industry, and academics.

After the Orbal Revolution, the craftsmen’s guild and university joined forces to form the Verne Industrial Company.

A joint city planning project is in place to make the city a high-tech industrial academic city, such as connecting districts on different levels with a ropeway, while maintaining its beautiful landscape.

Marduk Total Security Company

A total securities company headquartered in Ored, as well as a PMC (private military company).

Founded around 10 years ago, the company initially offered security services all around the continent, but in recent years has expanded its services.

It has also advanced into the field of military operations.

However, unlike jaegers, it often offers plans that just barely manages not violate the laws of its operating country, thus many large companies that do not want to takrisks of their own hire them for high prices.

Verne Industrial Company

A large technology manufacturer which headquartered in the engineering city Basel.

It is often compared to the Empire’s Reinford Group, but due to its industry-academic nature, its footwork is relatively low and it takes a multilateral and polished development approach through an academic lens.

During the Orbal Revolution 50 years ago, Latoya Hamilton, one of the three pupils of Professor Epstein—the inventor of Orbal Gear—brought back the technology and became the advisor of the company.

After succeeding in developing the first orbal car in the continent, Verne Industrial Company invested its research in developing advanced technologies such as orbal photos and orbal video to record footage from astronomical telescopes.

It was also a catalyst for the creation of other cultures unique to the Republic such as “Orbal Cinema,” which combines video technology and popular culture.

Xipha

The new sixth generation tactical orbment, Xipha, deploys pieces of ether known as “Shards” around its user and enables them to manipulate them to activate various functions.

The Xipha also has several new features that enhance the players abilities, including “Hollow Cores,” which change the overall performance of the Xipha; “Arts Drivers,” which install various orbal magic; and “Shard Skills,” which activate according to the amount of quartz.

The Hollow Cores mounted in the center of the Xipha have three vital roles that significantly affect its overall performance:

Basic Arts Attack Power – Basic stats that boost the power of your arts attacks.

Base EP – Basic stats that increase the maximum EP required to cast arts.

S Boost Properties – Special effects that can be activated during battle.

Your Hollow Core level increases through battle. Your Basic Arts Attack Power, Base EP, and S Boost Properties will grow along with it.

Voice Assist: Make Battles Even Smoother

The artificial intelligence-equipped Hollow Core is loaded with a navigator that supports Xipha users with voice-based guidance in various situations, such as in battle, on the field, and during quests.

In addition to the voice and speech style adjusting according to the type of Hollow Core, the Hollow Core shows a more human response to the user.

Arts Driver: Equipped with Multiple Arts

Several arts (orbal magic) are installed on the Arts Driver, which you can use by mounting it to your Xipha. Since the arts available to you depend on the level of your Hollow Core, the higher your Hollow Core level, the more powerful arts you can wield.

Separate from the pre-installed arts sets, the Arts Driver also has custom slots. By setting arts into these slots, you can make up for a lack of recovery or support arts, or install more powerful attack arts.

Shard Skills: Special Effects Activated by the Line’s Elemental Powers

Hollow Cores have four “lines” that you can slot quartz to: weapon, shield, drive, and EXTRA. Depending on the elemental powers of the quartz slotted to these lines, shards will deploy that activate various special effects in battle.

Weapon Line – The line connected to attack functions such as additional elemental damage or effects.

Shield Line – The line connected to defense functions such as damage reduction, elemental resistance effects, and counterattacks.

Drive Line – The line connected to arts strengthening functions such as increased casting speed and increased elemental power.

EXTRA Line – The line connected to unique functions that do not fall in the categories of Weapon, Shield, or Drive.

Advanced Shard Skills

The types and threshold of elemental power required to activate Shard Skills are determined by their performance. By setting your Xipha while keeping in mind the elemental power of each quartz you set, you can activate more advanced Shard Skills in battle.

“Ma’am, Registry shows that this system has been surveyed by distant scan only. The primary is too big and too far into the blue to have habitable worlds. Long range scan charts show four stony-giant worlds in orbits from 1.5 to 20.4 C minutes from the star. There are five gas-giants in orbits from 45 to about 300 C minutes in average radius.” Lezon reported to M’rel, one of her three mistresses.

“What to you think, Lezon? Should we dive in near the star to refuel the power capsule or go on to the Clan Colony at Thress T’cull?”

“We M’cratti are opportunists, Ma’am. Part of the Warrior’s Way is to eat when you can, rest when you can and fight when you must. It never hurts to have a fully fueled capsule. That star’s corona is rich in positive particles for fuel and negative ones for direct and stored power. While we are at it, we could divert to the ecliptic and run a tighter survey for the Treaty Commission Maps. That’s always worth some cash credit.”

“What of the delay to decelerate below C, drop the Restriction field, conduct the survey and then get back to course and speed?” inquired T’cass, one of Lezon’s other mistresses.

“Four days at most, unless we find something of interest,” Lezon replied.

K’ress put her vote simply. “I trust Lezon’s instincts. Let’s do it.” Her fingers played across the keys and touch screens of the navigation console. A course that swept near to three of the gas-giants and two of the stony-giant worlds on the way in, passed through the corona of the star and found another of the stony-giant worlds on the way out, appeared on the navigation screen. “This should answer the need quite well.”

Lezon and the others looked approvingly at the course. Heads nodded, whiskers twitching agreement. Lezon laid in the course and began setting up the piloting computer to handle it.

Her three mistresses looked on in curiosity. Two of the three, T’cass and K’ress, had flown in combat during the last war of the Clans and the M'cratt Empire. M’rel had been a medical technician. After all of her years of service, they still admired the economy and efficiency of their slave. Lezon had been a Talon pilot on the M’cratt side who was taken prisoner and claimed as war booty by T’cass.

T’cass, M’rel and K’ress had met during the war and fallen in love. T’cass had brought little but her slave to the Triad having spent her earnings to save Lezon’s life and heal her severe injuries. The other two had brought rich medical rewards, bounties and carefully saved combat pay. Together, they had bought a small star ship, formed a Clan and now had three kits of their own.

Lezon located the kits in the recreation room and herded the youngsters up to the bridge. “School time,” she announced cheerfully. “T’lass, you’re the youngest, so you get the easy job. Navigation. Sit over there and keep track of our course. We may have to divert for exploration or hazards.

“K’sere, you get the long range scanners. Your job is to watch out for hazards and give orbital scan information to T’cill.

“T’cill, your job is data interpretation. You take the scans and get us planatographical information. We want composition, orbital elements in detail, and exploitation potentials.”

“I want to fly the ship,” stated T’cill rebelliously.

“Sorry,” said Lezon firmly, “that’s my job. I’ve been the D’ancer’s driver ever since your mothers bought her.” She sat at her console and began the process of cutting down on their 28 C speed and bringing them to the calculated course. T’lass’s information was flowing steadily across her screens, letting Lezon know how close she was to the optimum course. What the other two were doing was displayed on a split quarter of her main screen.

To keep the three kits occupied for the coming hours, Lezon began drilling them in basics.

“Who can tell me what the Contraction Restriction field does?” she asked.

It was K’sere who chimed in first, “It prevents the relativity contraction from happening by converting the mass increase required by relativity into tachyons.”

“One snack point for K’sere,” said Lezon. Ears pricked up, tails twitched and whiskers went dead still as kits suddenly concentrated.

“What’s the theoretical maximum for the Restriction field?”

“0.7,” said T’cill dismissively.

“Anybody else?” asked Lezon softly.

It was T’lass who answered thoughtfully, “1.0.  0.7 is an engineering limit. If a generator overloads it will blow a ship into a cloud of tachyons headed for the next galaxy.”

“That’s what I meant,” said T’cill grumpily.

“Unfortunately, not what you said,” Lezon replied. “Snack point for T’lass.”

“What limits the speed of a ship?”

“Four things,” T’cill responded promptly. “Without a Restriction field, relativity forces the ship to contract to an infinitely massive wave front at C. This makes it impossible to go to or beyond the speed of light.” She curled one finger down.

“With a Restriction field, speed is a relationship between field intensity and thrust.” A second finger counted down.

“Thrust is produced by the inertial drive as a function of tachyon energy states inside a conducting surface.” A third finger folded into her growing fist.

“The last thing that governs ship speed is the fusion ramjet. In terms of thrust, it’s bitsy. Less than one standard gravity. Using magneto-hydrodynamics, it supplies the power to run the inertial drive at high C numbers by fusing interstellar hydrogen into helium and lithium.” Her fourth point made and finger folded, she was left with her small finger and thumb triumphantly held spread.

“Snack point,” Lezon said cheerfully.

“Planetary data coming in,” said K’sere. Everybody applied themselves to their screens. This was the real lesson, and the first time that the kits had first crack at the gathering and analysis of completely new data. They meant to get it right, and not just for snacks. They wanted to please Lezon, who had raised and educated them every bit as much as their three biological parents.

Planet size, accurate orbital elements, composition and tachyon output were duly recorded. The planet itself was nothing special, a smallish gas-giant; ammonia, methane and about 2.3 standard g gravitational pull. Two of its four moons had exploitable resources. The inner moon was a stony one with several metal ores in reasonable abundance. The second moon had usable hydrocarbons and sulfur volcanoes.

The next world was likewise ordinary. It was a near duplicate of the first, without the resource laden moons. The third, closest in of the gas-giants, was a different story altogether.

It was a large world with a monster gravity well, nearly 3.9 g’s. It was big enough to hold nearly all of its hydrogen in addition to ammonia, methane and a variety of complex organic compounds. Its fourteen moons held huge amounts of free water as ices and even some liquid. The moons were rich in silicates and metal ores. This one planet and its moons was well worth a mining claim due to the available water, easily separated for oxygen to breathe and hydrogen for fusion fuel.

One of the expected stony-giant worlds about 20 C minutes out from the primary had a planet-sized moon.

Well out-system, Commander M’ase watched the main screens on the command deck of the M’cratti Talon carrier ship Hand of Claws. The long range scans were no more informative than the Treaty Commission maps which were also displayed. Blue Giant stars never had habitable planets but they often had ones that were rich in resources.

“Why has the Triad-Empress sent us out here to this place?” grumbled detection, knowing full well that if it was necessary or desirable for her to know the answer, she would have been told.

It surprised the entire bridge crew when the Commander, who had earned the full compliment of three Names, answered quite calmly, “It is within my discretion to reveal our mission and it may assist your evaluation to know what it is. We are searching for worlds worth exploitation, in spite of the hostile environment of giant star systems. We must confine our search to those stars nearest to concentrations of Clan colonies here at the border of their space.

“These worlds must be claimable through the Treaty Commission without contest. They will become legitimate centers of mining and manufacturing for the Empire. They will also become shipyards and launch bases for the next war. Keep these factors in mind as we conduct our search.”

“War with Clan?” said the pilot disbelievingly. She was young and had earned no Name yet. “They are no worthy adversary. They are not Warriors nor do they fight willingly.”

“True, their goals and desires are utterly alien to us, in spite of their being the same species,” said M’ase thoughtfully, “but don’t fall into the trap of thinking that they can’t fight. They won the last War. Never forget that.

“I know that your histories have glossed it over but the Treaty Commission Fleet is all that saved M’cratt from being turned into an asteroid field. The T.C. will not stop wars.  They just protect habitable planets and make certain that the wars are fought within the terms of the treaties.”

“Huh,” said pilot dismissivly, “the Clans only won because Lezon was killed at M’onafar. We were beating them up until then.”

“Then your study of the history of Warriors was wasted time,” said M’ase in sharp rebuke. “Our loss proved that it was Lezon Treh K’lass who was beating them. Not us. How many engagements did we win after M’onafar?”

“One,” said the pilot sullenly.

“Correct,” M’ase said more calmly. “And Lezon had planned that battle before she was lost.”

The kits nearly went wild as they unbelievingly read their data. “0.98 g’s! Oxygen! Nitrogen! Carbon dioxide! Habitable temperatures! Living biosphere!” They checked and checked again.

That moon was a rare treasure. Habitable worlds were almost beyond price. The glaring primary was eclipsed for a portion of each orbit around its stony giant parent, holding the moon’s temperature to comfortable levels.

T’lass frantically began to enter new data for the navigation computer. Lezon could have done it in a tenth of the time but kits don’t learn if they don’t do.

Lezon made a major change in the flight path planned by T’lass. “Your course puts the D’ancer into an orbit around this new world. Why have I changed it?”

They all looked at her as if she had lost her fur. Lezon explained as if it were elementary, “Being prepared for conflict is one of the most important parts of the Warrior’s Way. If there are technically advanced natives on that world, just barging in could panic them into shooting at us. We will park safely out of the way and use the lighters to scout and be sure that all is safe before we risk taking our home into harm’s way. We don’t want a repeat of how the Feront was found.”

The kits looked at each other and nodded, just slightly abashed that they had not remembered their history.

M’rel and T’cass, won the toss and went out exploring the newly found world in the D’ancer’s two lighters. The D’ancer itself was parked in orbit around the big gas-giant nearly 25 C minutes further out from the primary.

“Lezon,” K’ress asked, watching the spectacular rise of the primary through the giant’s atmosphere, “why have you never tried to leave us?”

Uncomfortably, the M’cratt twitched her tail and ears and looked down at the deck of the Clan ship D’ancer. “Ma’am, I owe you all too much. When T’cass pulled me from my destroyed Talon craft after the battle at M’onafar, I was nearly as dead as my ship. She spent all of her fortune to save me, and I had been your enemy.  When I awakened in the hospital, she took my submission.  It would be unethical to try to escape until the debit is paid.” That is true, except that the debit is long paid, she thought.

“You do know that we tested you. We gave you errands that you could have used to escape back to your own people. You never did.” K’ress cocked her ear quizzically. “Most M’cratti would not have been so ethical. I know this and so do my Clan-wives. Would it bother you to know that we have considered manumission for you?”

“Where would I go? The M’cratti would not give me any position of honor, having let myself be taken,” Lezon asked in genuine dismay.

“Surely, if we returned you, we could explain that you were unconscious when we took you. You discharged your ethical debit with the honor that your race is famous for… Why, they would have to give you a place of honor!”

Bitterly, Lezon replied, “You are Clan, I am M’cratt. You fight fiercely and are good opponents, worthy of respect, but you seek peace. We are warriors. We are the same species separated by ways of thought. We are even more alien to each other than the Feront is to our species.” How do I tell her that I have come to share their love of ship and Clan — And close personal feelings are forbidden to the M’cratti. Now I love them all. T’cass who saved my life at the cost of her own fortune. She knows who I am, and has shielded me. M’rel, the friend who would not ask or allow any other to ask my Name beyond what I was willing to give. K’ress, who trusted me with their first kit. I would miss playing with and teaching their kits. They trust me, and I them. What I feel for them all outweighs a lifetime of training and discipline. How can I tell her that without losing all of my honor?

Just then they began to receive a comm call from M’rel, saving Lezon from difficult introspection. She knew that what she felt for the D’ancer Clan was wrong but it felt right, too. She was not happy about it. That meant that her inner conflict was poorly managed.

“M’rel here,” said the familiar, softly furred face in the comm screen, both pointed ears leaning forward, her vertically slit eyes wide with interest, “the analysis is complete. The DNA is only a double spiral instead of our triple, but it uses the same amino-acid bases! We can safely eat most of the native proteins! More, we can’t get any of the local diseases! The data is in the secondary transmission.

“See you all soon, K’ress.  Tell Lezon that there is no intelligent life here. She fretted about safety for noth …” The transmission ended in a hiss of static.

Seeing the data display, part of Lezon’s heart shattered but the Warrior’s Way allowed her no time now for grief. She hit the controls swiftly, diving the D’ancer in a fast, hard entry into the Giant’s atmosphere. Throughout the ship, the soft penetrating bong of the emergency gong was sounding. Emergency maneuvering fields had locked everyone tight to the floor unless they were in a crash couch, preventing them from moving or being moved until released.

The ship ended its dive, resting quietly hundreds of miles under the atmosphere’s opaque cloud deck using minimum power to fly aerodynamically, barely above stall speed. Only dim emergency lights were on. The gravity compensation system was down, exposing the occupants to the full 3.9 g’s of the planet’s unmodified pull.

The kits, T’cill, T’lass and K’sere could be heard in the education quarters calling out, “Mothers! Lezon! What’s happened? Have we crashed? Why is the grav shield off? Everything’s too heavy!”

“Yes, why is the shield off?” asked K’ress, sensibly not reaching for any control that her trusted pilot had shut down.

“Lady K’ress, we are hiding. Your sister-wife is dead.”

Shocked, K’ress said, “M’rel? Dead? Are you sure?”

“Madam, I am certain. I’m sorry.”

Lezon called up the static at the end of the call and put it on the screen as data. She adjusted the scales to show clearly to the others what she already knew. She tapped a few keys and put the information onto the kit’s education screens as well. Speaking to all of them through the computer, she highlighted the first part of the static, which now showed a very regular pattern. The last section was wildly erratic with several high peaks.

“This portion is the cycle pattern of a Talon disruptor. I was a Talon pilot. I am sure of this.” Lezon moved the highlight to the last part of the static, adding red bars to some of the peaks. “These are helium and lithium ions at very high energy states. They could only have come from the detonation of M’rel’s power capsule. There is nothing left of her for us to recover. All that we can do is hope that T’cass has not been found as well.

“Disruptor patterns are nearly as distinctive as iris scans,” Lezon said as calmly as if for a classroom lecture to the kits. “That shot was fired by a Talon launched from my old carrier ship, the Hand of Claws.”

K’ress’s golden eyes looked questioningly at Lezon. “You could have surrendered us. You would have been back with your friends and we would be the slaves. Why didn’t you?”

“You have not treated me as a slave, in spite of my status on the crew manifest. You have not even required my whole true name. You spent a fortune to heal my body of injuries and vacuum damage and never even demanded the knowledge of who I was.”

“What you were not willing to give, we did not need. We know how important names are to M’cratt. You had to earn your Name and as far as we are concerned, you earned the right to keep it,” said K’ress firmly.

“I figured that out quickly. At first, I thought that your failure to demand my name was a gesture of contempt. The rest of your treatment of me proved otherwise. Now, I will give it to you freely. Ask me my name.”

“Your name? It is Lezon, common enough among the M’cratti who have earned their names. It is your people’s goddess of death, I believe. Is it important to know more?” K’ress was clearly puzzled.

“It is to me. Please ask,” pleaded Lezon.

“Very well, then. Please tell me your name.”

“I am Lezon Treh K’lass. By the Triple Goddess of Battle, while there is breath in this body that you gave back to me, I will save you if I can. I know how M’cratti treat their slaves. You and the kits deserve better.”

K’ress was truly taken aback. “I know that name. No M’cratti tactician is more feared by the Clans. Even the Feront is afraid of entering a battle that you lead. No wonder that you have kept your name a secret.”

“Lady K’ress, with due respect, when T’cass captured me and held my Name, your Clan respected that and never asked beyond what was given.

“Now that you have asked my name, I have told you. What I swear by my whole name, I must do. I could not escape before because T’cass took my submission, not my surrender. She acknowledged that she had not beaten me and so could not take my surrender. That required me to stay as a free Warrior and learn from her and fight by her side.”

“So — Now you must save us from your own ship by the oath you just took.” K’ress looked sympathetically at Lezon. “That must have been a hard thing to do.”

Tears fell like liquid stones in the high gravity of the Giant planet. “Madam, it was the hardest thing that I have ever done. War is easy by comparison. I love you all, the kits, too. I had no choice.” There, I’ve said it. My M’cratt honor is gone for good. I wonder if she knows what those words have cost me?

Lezon was surprised by the next words that she heard. K’sere, the second of the three kits, spoke through the ship’s comm. “I thought that M’cratti didn’t have Clans and couldn’t love.”

With a catch in her throat, Lezon replied, “You are right. It is not allowed. It violates the honor of the Warrior Way. It leads to weakness.”

The voice of T’cill said quietly, “you taught us the precepts of Clan. The first of these is that love is the source of Clan strength. Did you lie to us?”

T’lass, the youngest of the kits, spoke up at once, “Lezon never lied to us. Not ever. She taught us what we needed to learn, not what she believed. None of us asked her about her ways.

“She has just told us that she had no choice, that she loved us enough to swear to save us. That must have broken her Warrior Way’s honor. She chose us over her whole life’s training and belief.”

Speaking to Lezon directly now, T’lass, wiser than her few years would indicate, asked, “What can we do to help you save us, Warrior?”

Pride filled Lezon’s heart at the calm way that they were turning to her for leadership. “T’cill, get your sisters into the liquid exercise tank. Use the gill packs so that you can all stay underwater. We will soon be doing some maneuvers that will be truly savage. Pray to your goddesses that the ship holds together. It is well built and I have worked to make it better since I knew that I would stay with you, come what may. Still, the D’ancer was not made for war.”

“Lady K’ress, call up passive detection subroutine 14-25. I have put three profiles on your screen, if you find any of them, put them onto my screen immediately.”

“I have never seen this routine before,” remarked K’ress. “How does it work? Where is the tachyon emitter source?”

“The routine is a secret that I was working on when my Talon was hit and lost. It uses any natural background source, like the planet under us, and if there are more than one source available, like the star, it triangulates even more accurately. The D’ancer’s decks could be felt shuddering underfoot as the eight hundred mile per hour winds outside buffeted her. That brought another concern to the forefront of K’ress’s mind. “Should we be so deep in this atmosphere?” she asked anxiously.

“No, my Lady, we should not,” answered Lezon absently, as she scanned her instrumentation. “We are fifty five percent over the safety limit of our hull. I looked into the D’ancer’s specifications long ago. The safety limit was set with a factor of two, so if all is well made, and I have made sure that it is, we still have a small reserve.”

“I see that we have long underestimated the complexity of being a Warrior — I have targets.” She transferred the screen information to the pilot.

“Good,” approved Lezon. “T’cass has landed on the second planet and powered down. The Talons know where she is though, see the courses that they’ve set? I hope that she has the sense to get clear of the ship. They won’t have to be closer than about 10 C seconds to open fire with their disruptors.”

“What is that fuzzy looking target?” asked K’ress, highlighting one of the objects on the screen.

“That is the Hand of Claws,” said Lezon. “She appears indistinct in this detection mode because her shields are at maximum. If Commander M’ase still has her bridge, she knows that the lighters have a ship in the near neighborhood. We are masked by the planet’s bulk and natural tachyon flux for now. M’ase will be worried about where we are. A Clan ship should have come to investigate when one of its lighters went off screen.”

On the command deck of the Hand of Claws, Commander of Talons, M’ase Carra L’on, was twitching her ears in annoyance and her green eyes were slitted narrow as she tried to will the Clan ship to show itself.

“This one doesn’t act like a Clanner. Where is the mother ship?” She demanded of the empty air. She spun on her heel and nearly pounced on her hapless detection officer. “Where are they? How could a minor Clan ship hide from us?”

Cringing, the officer replied, “We never did see the main ship. Perhaps they are out-system, recording the find.”

It was the wrong thing to say. M’ase had gone totally still, utterly focused. “If they record the find,” she purred in a voice that reminded everyone on the command deck of a leather strop honing a blade past razor sharpness, “we have struck to no point, wasted resources and time. It was you who said that they had to be near. We attacked on your assessment. We will proceed. If they are not found soon, this will come out of your shares.”

The Talon flight officer called in, saving the detection officer from further wrath, “Target on planet two eliminated. The capsule was powered down and failed to detonate but instruments recorded the destruction of the vehicle.”

M’ase said in satisfaction, “That should bring them running to see what happened to their other mate. Set scans wider to spot them as far out as possible.”

Relieved to have a task, the detection officer did as she was ordered. “Detection limits out to 2 C hours, Ma’am! Resolution at two and a half minutes of arc. We will focus more tightly after contact,” she reported in a matter-of-fact voice.

M’ase ordered, “Talons, return to ship. Well done. Your actions have secured this rich system for us. We only need to find the Clanner that those lighters came from and all is ours. They cannot hide for long.”

Detection looked at her screens and fretted whether to report what she had seen. Gas-giants always contributed some background tachyon flux. She debated whether to report the tiny, unfocused flux increase to the Commander. Caution won out.

“Commander, there is something happening on the nearby Gas-giant. The unfocused tachyon flux is up by a tenth of one percent.”

“Is that significant?”

“No, but it does lower our scan resolution in that area by a fraction.”

“Lezon, what are you doing?” asked K’ress as she watched Lezon get up and walk heavily aft.

“I need to re-route some power. The cables are heavy but it must be done.”

“I will unlock the engineering panel. We can do it from here,” said K’ress, reaching for the panel lock.

“I wish that it were so easy, K’ress,” sighed Lezon. “That panel will allow us to reconfigure power within the system. We need to reconfigure the system itself.”

K’ress got out of her crash couch and staggered aft with Lezon. “I will help, if you show me what to do.”

“Lady, you are our eyes. I need to know when the Talons get close to the Hand of Claws.”

“How close?” asked a voice from the education room.

“T’cill! Get into the tank with your sisters,” said K’ress sharply.

“I have a screen here,” replied T’cill, “and a couch. I can watch for you while you work.”

“Call me when they are two C seconds from the Hand of Claws,” said Lezon, tacitly accepting the help. “The Hand is the fuzzy one not far off from us. The Talons show as arrows pointing their course. T’cass shows as a circle on the second planet. Let us know all that occurs.”

Lezon and K’ress went on to the power room in the ship’s core. The power capsule sat, a squat oblong with rounded ends and edges, floating in the midst of its cradle. It only touched the cradle when it was shut down. The collector was like an assemblage of silvery rings about the capsule. Each one had a superconducting cable emerging from it. They all joined together into a single large high saturation superconductor that went into the distribution room. There the cable became a monstrous hydra of quick-connectors and smaller cables, each routed to a specific other cable or piece of equipment. There were many connectors that had no cables attached and each of the cables could reach any of the empty connections.

K’ress looked at the arraignment in surprise. “When did we get all of this slack in the cables and all of these extra connectors? What is the purpose?”

“Lady K’ress, I had it installed during the refit last planet-fall. It is one of the improvements that I have made,” said Lezon, struggling to release a connector in the heavy pull of the Gas-giant’s gravity. “Would you turn this handle one third of a turn?”

Still mystified, K’ress did as asked. It wasn’t easy. A small spray of icy vapor from liquid nitrogen coolant accompanied the release of the connector. As the two of them struggled to shift its weight over and attach it to one of the other heads of the hydra, Lezon continued, “When I was injured and trapped in my shot-up Talon after the battle at M’onafar, I was only three inches of cable from safety. Those three inches of slack that weren’t there nearly cost me my life. Only T’cass checking out a wrecked enemy ship for salvage saved me.” They both were panting when the job was done.

They were interrupted by T’cill’s despairing call, “They just destroyed mommy T’cass’s ship! It’s gone!” The kit began to cry inconsolably.

Lezon felt another part of her shattering but she had to save the others before she could mourn. A new determination settled over her. The Hand of Claws was going to pay.

She and K’ress hurried for the education room as swiftly as the gravity allowed. There they enfolded the sobbing T’cill in their arms and held her close.

“You did well,” Lezon told her. “That was hard for you to watch. I could not have changed that cable by myself. We shall mourn together later. Now we must battle for our lives. I do need you in that tank. Put on your gill. Without the water for a cushion, you will be hurt, and I don’t want that.”

Lezon left the kit in her mother’s arms and went to the control room. Settling thankfully into her crash couch, she began delicately working to get the D’ancer, hidden down in the giant’s atmosphere, lined up so that she could get the shot that she wanted. She began to slowly trickle up the tachyon flux of the targeting system, carefully unfocused.

She had never entertained much hope that the seven little five kiloton per second guns of the D’ancer’s forward battery could do much damage, so long as they stayed strictly Clan legal. So — the guns of the ship’s batteries were still technically legal. They now used a few pounds per second of targeting flux followed by a short ten megaton pulse per weapon. Each blast was brief enough that the five kiloton per second per weapon limit was observed. The T.C. had reluctantly put their seal on her fire control software.

Even with this change, it would be touch and go to strike the Hand of Claws at far closer range. The Talons were a different story altogether. They were lightly shielded, high speed, short range heavy firepower. At only four C seconds range, they would be sitting ducks during the one time that they were forced to be nearly still. While they were entering or leaving the Hand of Claws’ shield they had to match speed, position and shield intensity with the big ship.

M’ase was still nervously pacing the control deck of the Hand of Claws. So far everything had gone perfectly, except that the Clan ship itself had yet to be found. She was certain that the detection officer’s assessment was accurate or she would never have acted against the Clanners. Their ship was somewhere nearby. When it was found, the big homing missile launchers and long range tachyon batteries of the Hand of Claws would make short work of it.

The Talons, having done their work, were returning to their mother ship. In an hour, they would begin a serious combined search spiral through the system and conduct a detailed survey while they were at it. They already knew, thanks to the data transmission that they had picked up just prior to the destruction of the first lighter, that the moon of the stony giant was a rare and valuable habitable world. That would make the rest of the system’s resources easily exploitable and provide a safe haven where people could relax without fear. A good place to raise more Warriors.

It was just the Clan ship’s bad luck that they had found it first, by days only, apparently. Their ship log would be compared to the log of the Hand of Claws and the matter of ownership would be settled by an Interstellar Treaty Tribunal. Unless, of course, the Clan ship’s otherwise indelible log dissolved in disruptor or tachyon fire, or a missile’s nuclear fireball.

The Talons were now coming close in so that they could resupply in their launch bays. M’ase listened with half an ear to the chatter of the docking procedure. The Hand of Claws’ defensive fields were matched and phased to the Talon ships’ shields so that they could get into their berths.

The first warning that all was not right was the panicked voice of fire-control shouting “Ping!” as she desperately pulled the shields as hard and tight as possible. The blast slamming into the ship caused more damage than she had taken during the whole of the last war.

The Hand of Claws was spinning about her short axis, tumbling away from the expanding cloud of vapor that was all that was left of the nearer Talon. The other’s smashed wreckage was already showing on the screen as it spun wildly away. M’ase picked herself up from the base of life-support’s crash couch and looked about the bridge. Even here in the most solidly protected part of the ship except for the power capsules, there was damage.

M’ase listened as the damage reports flowed in. All Talon bays damaged too severely for launch. Attitude control at only sixty percent. Primary tachyon radiator destroyed. Drive at sixty five percent. Eight hull breeches. Main batteries number one four and five off line entirely. All missile launchers out of action. Shielding was still functional but the generators had damage. There were crew injuries all over the ship.

They were only barely operational. Crews were doing what was needed to contain the damage. M’ase smiled and put damage control from her mind. Her crew knew what to do. “I would like to meet you, Clan. You think like a Warrior,” she said, pleased that she had found a worthy adversary. She turned to detection and fire control. “Where did that come from and what was it?”

Gee Pucci, Three 「Stands」?

Everyone knows Pucci has three Stands. It’s practically a meme at this point. But the problem is, with so many Stands, all three of whom throw the ‘one ability per Stand’ rule off a damn cliff, it can be hard to keep track of what they can all do. So I’m here to help with that.

WHITESNAKE:

Whitesnake, Pucci’s original Stand, was used by Pucci to peruse parts of GDSt Jail that he couldn’t access, finding and manipulating Stand users or eliminating ones he has no use for and stealing their Stands away just in case.

Strength: Whitesnake is no slouch when it comes to physical combat. Range: Pucci states in the Heavy Rainfall Warning arc that Whitesnake’s maximum range is 20 metres or so, and his strength only increases the closer he gets to Pucci.

Independence & Intelligence: One of Whitesnake’s quirks is that he is, in fact, fully sentient and possesses a consciousness completely separate from Pucci’s. He is cold and sinister when calm, but unlike Pucci, is very quick to explosive bursts of anger, particularly when things don’t go his way. His independence means he can do jobs for Pucci on his own volition, without Pucci having to supervise him. However, such independence has its risks, as Whitesnake will sometimes hesitate while thinking over Pucci’s orders (like being ordered to eliminate a certain adorable plankton gal). He also exhibits technical knowledge, such as skilled close combat techniques, critical thinking, and proper use of a handgun.

Discs: Whitesnake’s most notorious ability is his creation of Discs. At first glance they appear the same as a normal CD disc, but closer inspection reveals that they are completely indestructible. Bend ‘em, drop ‘em, shoot ‘em with a gun, the only way to destroy one of Pucci’s discs is to put them into a host and have the host die with the disc inside. What the Discs actually do varies depending on what kind of disc is used. Most often shown is Whitesnake compacting the memories and Stand (the soul) of a person into Discs and stealing them; the Discs can then be inserted into other people, granting them access to the memories or Stand contained by the Disc (although Stands can reject incompatible hosts, like Star Platinum rejecting Jolyne). The now Disc-less person will fall into a comatose state, during which their bodily processes will shut down and their bodies will begin to decay. Restoration of the Discs is the only cure; restoring only the Stand will leave the person alive, but lacking in any memories whatsoever, even basic functions, and restoring only the memories will still leave the individual soulless and dying. Whitesnake has also been shown to be capable of creating discs from his own body with orders imprinted into them; inserting these discs into a host, such as a prison guard or a bird, will force them to carry out those orders no matter what. Pucci has also been shown to remove his eyesight as discs, which leaves the question of whether he can remove more bodily functions, or do it to other people.

Illusion Mist: Whitesnake is capable of generating, through unknown means, a misty gas of some sort. The gas induces stupor and unconsciousness in those it envelops, making them experience vivid dreams to prevent them from realising they’ve even fallen asleep. While the victim dreams, the mist will slowly collect on their bodies and congeal into a white goo with powerful acidic properties, slowly dissolving the victims like stomach acid, just like a snake as it swallows prey. During this time, Whitesnake is free to snatch the victim’s Discs and leave them to die, a gruesome fate that took Emporio Alnino’s mother, as well as others before her. The mist can also be used to create illusions outside of dreams, as seen when FF tricked Whitesnake by making attack his own reflection in the mist, or Whitesnake wrapping the mist around himself and disguising himself as Weather Report.

Mind Control: Only seen once, Whitesnake is capable of ramming his fingers through the skull of a victim (in this case, Annasui) and taking control of their mind. In this state, the victim’s free will is eradicated, forcing them to do whatever Pucci tells them to do so long as Whitesnake’s fingers stay jammed in their brain.

C-MOON:

Destructive Power: Zero Speed: B Range: B Durability: ? Precision: ? Development Potential: ?

C-Moon is the next step in Whitesnake’s Pokemon evolution. Created by Whitesnake fusing the biological matter of the Green Baby and the fragment of Dio’s The World contained within into his body, C-Moon is undoubtedly a very dangerous Stand.

Strength: Don’t let Araki’s stats and Annasui’s comments fool you: C-Moon is immensely strong.With the already formidable strength of Whitesnake supplemented by The World’s power, C-Moon’s power leaves little room for mistakes when fighting him. His strength doesn’t seem to diminish as he moves away from Pucci, as C-Moon, while at least 50 metres away from Pucci, is shown to hit Jolyne and her Stand so hard the impact crumpled the ticket booth wall underneath her. Later, C-Moon punches both of Jolyne’s arms so hard they bend at very, very unhealthy angles, and before that, a classic Muda Muda from C-Moon demolishes a steel support column like tissue paper. Jolyne is pretty lucky she dodged most of C-Moon’s hits during their 1v1, because the fight would’ve been over much quicker if she hadn’t. And just in case you were wondering, C-Moon’s surface inversion takes a few moments to take effect, so all the damage listed here was purely a result of C-Moon’s raw strength. His Destructive Power is listed as ‘Zero’ or ‘None’, but that doesn’t indicate a lack of strength: it could be that C-Moon’s Destructive Power is so high that it lacks an appropriate rating altogether.

Independence: Although he doesn’t express his emotions as much as he used to, C-Moon is still capable of thinking and acting separately from Pucci. During his fight with Jolyne, C-Moon demonstrates critical thinking, using his environment and his powers to his advantage, and displays some pretty sweet MMA fighting skills. He also talks a few times, if only to inform Jolyne he’s going to kill her, and to tell Annasui to fuck off, essentially.

Range: C-Moon seems to have a range greatly exceeding that of his previous form, being at least 50 metres away from Pucci at one stage. His gravity field also extends roughly 3 kilometres.

Physical Body: Easily C-Moon’s most bizarre trait is his seemingly organic form. Jolyne is capable of hitting him by herself, without using her Stand, which shouldn’t be possible; C-Moon is also shown to bleed from injuries sustained, and said injuries don’t pass on to Pucci. Additionally, C-Moon is almost never shown levitating, as most Stands do, and he is never summoned partially; his body is always whole when manifesting, unlike some Stands who can appear as just an arm or the upper body. Given that he evolved when Pucci absorbed the Green Bay, and the fact that all that organic tissue had to go somewhere, it may well be that C-Moon is one of the only Stands with a fully tangible organic body.

Gravity Inversion Field: With Pucci as the centre, C-Moon can invert gravity in all directions away from Pucci, essentially forcing everything to fll away from him. The field has a radius of roughly 3km, extending outwards, so anything that attempting to enter the field will find itself pushing back out until they leave the field.

Gravity Manipulation: C-Moon has also shown the ability to redirect gravity at will, at least within a short distance of himself. The strength and direction of this seems to be under C-Moon’s control, as he used gravity to slam Jolyne’s arm down, crumpling the ticket booth under her (this is after the aforementioned hit, see the Strength section), and when he flung concrete tiles at Annasui at high speed by flinging them via gravity manipulation. The extent of this ability is unknown, but as long as he keeps using it to beat up Annasui, it’s fine by me.

Surface Inversion: C-Moon’s most infamous ability is Surface Inversion. The lightest touch from C-Moon’s hands can cause an object to have its gravitational centre invert itself, causing said object to quickly and violently turn inside out. This usually causes catastrophic structural damage to the object in question, like a ticket booth or Jolyne’s fingers. The effect can be reversed by C-Moon touching it again, but the damage done will remain. The power can be used strategically, as seen with C-Moon using it to change the terrain to destabilise his opponent and put himself in a better position. However, Surface Inversion really shines as an offensive power; the slightest graze from one of C-Moon’s punches turned Jolyne Kujo’s fingers inside out, crippling her hand, and a full force open-handed stab to her chest resulted in her heart turning inside out, reversing her blood flow and cutting off the oxygen to her brain (as if the massive blood loss and shock wasn’t enough). Even if he wasn’t so physically strong, C-Moon is an extremely dangerous Stand to go toe-to-toe with.

Time Acceleration: In the Jailbreak arc, we see Pucci, sick and in pain, as his Stand struggles to cope with the changes it’s undergoing. He states that it is no longer Whitesnake, indicating that this was when the transition to C-Moon was starting, and that it was no longer under his control. During this time, Pucci briefly touches a woman while helping her with her groceries; the thumb of his Stand, with the same blackstripe/GACT markings as C-Moon, appears and activates its power. The woman’s watch starts to spin at blinding speeds, and her fingernails grow dramatically in less than a second; the eggs she was holding all hatch into chicks, and worst of all, the whole left half of her baby son’s body is instantly accelerated into a full-grown adult man. This was just a precursor to Made in Heaven’s power, but since it accelerates objects on contact, and at such a massive rate, this ‘weaker’ version may be even worse... especially since it’s out of Pucci’s control.

Time Stop(?): It’s important to remember that Whitesnake absorbed a fragment of The World’s power when he evolved into C-Moon. This affected more than just his powers and his appearance; after being exposed to Jotaro’s time stop just twice, Pucci was noted to be able to move his eyes and look around in the stopped time, allowing him to make note of and -mostly- avoid the spear Jotaro threw at him. Considering that this development mimics Jotaro’s own development of time stopping during his fight with DIO, there is a very real possibility that C-Moon, given time and enough exposure to the stopped time, could have developed The World’s ability to stop time himself. As if he wasn’t OP enough already, right?

MADE IN HEAVEN:

Destructive Power: B Speed: Infinite Range: C Durability: A Precision: C Development Potential: A

The final stage in Whitesnake’s evolution and the final step in DIO’s master plan, Made in Heaven is, simply put, one of the most powerful Stands in existence.

Strength: Made in Heaven’s strength is still as impressive as his previous two forms, capable of bending back a palm tree with his bare hands (anyone who has tried to bend a palm tree will know this isn’t easy). His speed, combined with his strength, lends his blows a cleanliness not present in his previous forms; where Whitesnake’s strikes would roughly chop off a limb, Made in Heaven can slice through flesh and bone like a scalpel, as seen with Ermes Costello’s arms, or Jotaro Kujo’s entire head. His strength is also enough for him to be able to stab Annasui through the chest... with another Stand’s hand. He also seems to be able to lift Pucci, not unlike The World and Star Platinum did for their users in Cairo, allowing Pucci to move through the air; it’s possible, however, that Made in Heaven just threw him instead.

Range: Made in Heaven’s physical range is severely reduced, never being seen to leave Pucci’s side. However, the range of his time acceleration affects the entire universe, which is pretty impressive.

Independence(?): Made in Heaven never speaks, and is almost never seen without a calm, almost serene expression on his face, so we have little proof of him having the same sentience he had in his previous forms. However, he does exhibit frustration and anger at times, and he busts out a mean slasher smile when murdering Jolyne Kujo, so it’s up for debate really.

Time Acceleration: A vastly more powerful version of the ability possessed by C-Moon, Made in Heaven can manipulate gravity on a universal scale to speed up time exponentially. The rate at which time speeds up increases over time; early on, an hour is observed to pass in roughly two minutes, and by the time the acceleration is nearing its peak, clothes dissolve to tatters in seconds and rocks can be seen eroding in the water. Any living thing possessing a body block is unaffected by the time acceleration; bacteria and microorganisms carry on at lightning speed, but humans and animals will be left behind to behave at normal speeds. The acceleration can even affect Stand abilities, as noted by Jotaro, whose time stop was reduced in length by Pucci’s power. Speaking of Pucci, he is the exception that proves the rule; he himself is affected by the acceleration, zooming around at blinding speed. Although he isn’t technically moving faster (he’s moving at his normal speed, just over a shorter time frame), the fact that everyone else is left behind means that Pucci may as well be moving at super speed, making him almost impossible to fight.

Universal Overwrite: The concept that time has an ‘end point’ is one of the driving concepts behind Made in Heaven. The ‘end point’ in question is the point in time where time ends, loops around and starts all over again, exactly the same as the first. Made in Heaven’s acceleration hastens the cycle and brings about the reset of the universe in a matter of minutes, creating what we can call the ‘Pucciverse’. However, this overwrite functions a little like overwriting a file on a computer; once the loading bar fills up (time reaching the point where Pucci initially began accelerating), the old file is completely overwritten and can’t be retrieved, but if the loading bar is interrupted (Pucci dying before the loop completes), the old file will be restored (the old universe returning). This is the universe we see at the end of Part 6; the original universe is still here, and Parts 1-5 still happened, but something changed so that Part 6 never did, and the main cast lived different lives with different names. Why this happened isn’t clear.

Soul Memorisation: Although living things aren’t affected by the acceleration, their souls are; as time speeds up, their souls will memorise everything that should have happened to them in their lifetime. Then, once the timeline loops around and starts again, all humans will have memorised, in their souls, every single event that can occur in their lifetime. This grants them a weird ‘future sense’ like a really powerful feeling of deja vu. The principle behind this is Pucci’s philosophy of ‘peace of mind’, the idea that if humans always knew what was going to happen to them, good or bad, they would have time to come to terms with it and be at peace. This is Pucci’s idea of Heaven: a world where mankind can know its own fate and be at peace with itself. If one should die during or before the acceleration, that’s fine; their souls will still carry across into the Pucciverse, but they’re now locked into their fate. The only person exempt from this rule is Pucci, who can move and manipulate people’s fates as he pleases. Additionally, if someone is killed directly by Made in Heaven, their soul will be left behind, and their role in the time stream will be filled by a similar, but fundamentally different individual, as seen by the strange Not-Jolyne and Not-Jotaro Emporio found in GDSt. Should Pucci be killed and the Pucciverse collapse, however, those souls will be restored along with the original universe, albeit with different names and lives.

While some planners are scrambling to figure out the saving grace that is virtual events, others are leading the way with novel virtual event experiences. Here are some original ideas and insights from recent online events to help inspire your own.   Virtual events are nothing new, but the industry has been slow to fully adopt them over the past few years — a live poll during EventMB's recent Pivot to Virtual event showed that over 60% of planners who responded had never been involved in planning a virtual event. With the outbreak of the coronavirus and stay-at-home orders around the world, virtual events have become the only way forward in the next few months — and likely into next year. This has forced many eventprofs to drastically shift their mindsets and planning processes to embrace the virtual format and everything that comes with it, including what may be unfamiliar tech, sponsorship opportunities, and networking options. As more events pivot online and the industry focuses on delivering value in a virtual format, we're starting to see a lot of creativity and innovation coming out of them. In this post, we've analyzed some recent online events (many of which were originally supposed to be in-person) in order to curate a list of ideas and best practices for your own upcoming virtual events. Real-Time Illustrations During Sessions Bringing artists on board to create real-time illustrations — known as digital live scribing — is a great way to engage your audience with a unique type of content. These talented illustrators create artwork live as panel discussions go on, providing a graphical representation of the speakers and takeaways that are entertaining, informative, and most importantly, widely shareable/postable. Digital live scribing makes it easy to glean key insights from the sessions in a way that is fun to look at and, most importantly, extremely shareable. Live Games or Competitions As part of Salesforce’s World Tour Sydney Reimagined virtual event, they implemented a live "battle of the apps" competition between exhibitors — complete with audience voting — called AppExchange Demo Jam. During this session, Salesforce AppExchange partners were given three minutes each to do a live demo demonstrating their apps. The audience was then asked to vote for their favorite using a dedicated link that was accessible for 24 hours following the session, and the winner was announced on Twitter the next day. Featuring sponsors and exhibitors through this kind of competition is a creative way to provide engaging demos while also getting the audience involved. Keeping the demos short and to-the-point is also beneficial considering that many attendees of virtual events will be facing more distractions while viewing at home, Plus, this kind of activity will have people checking back to and engaging with the event's social media pages to see who won. High-Production Value Content On Demand Live streaming is often the backbone of virtual events, and it can be a very effective way to replace in-person presentations and sessions. However, there are other approaches that may work for your event, depending on your goals and the scale of the event. For example, Adobe decided to forego live streams for their recent Summit and went the prerecorded route instead. What prerecorded sessions may lack in real-time engagement they make up for in production value, as they benefit from the ability to be edited or enhanced. This can greatly improve certain speakers' performances. They also eliminate many common challenges of virtual events, such as planning around different time zones and connectivity issues during the event. They also minimize people getting bored and tuning out of the live stream. Adobe uploaded the event's content to their custom web platform on the day of the event, and from there, viewers were — and still are — able to choose to watch whatever sessions they wanted, whenever they wanted. This allowed each person to personalize their own experience and interact with the content that would bring them the most value on their own time. Adobe's event sessions are available online completely free of charge, which allows for maximum viewing. However, if you choose to charge for your event, you could also follow a similar format while implementing a paywall or registration page before granting attendees access to the content. One thing to note if you decide to go this route is that, with people viewing the content on their own time, you’ll want to erect forums or schedule specific times for Q&As and networking sessions where people can connect about the topic and continue the dialogue. AI-Generated Recommendations Personalized video recommendations were another facet of Adobe's event experience. As always, the capabilities of your virtual event will depend on the platform you're using, and Adobe has the ability to create high-end experiences thanks to their in-house development teams and custom platform. Taking a page out of the YouTube playbook, they incorporated custom content recommendations based on people's behavior on the platform using Adobe's Sensei AI engine. Personalizing content delivery in a virtual format in this way speaks to a much broader trend in events in general. Many are used to receiving personalized suggestions when consuming both content and products on the internet. Immersive Environments While many virtual events are implementing virtual expo booths and networking tools, the SBC Digital Summit scheduled for next week will be taking these elements one step farther by designing their virtual space based on a physical conference center. For example, the home screen from which attendees can access the different parts of the event is named Lobby and features a background of a convention center lobby. Similarly, the Networking Lounge feature looks like an actual lounge with chat windows that attendees can interact with. Although not quite VR, these environments will allow attendees to feel familiar aspects of event spaces through the virtual format instead of just clicking through screens and videos that all look the same. Using design elements to give your event a unique look and feel will help set your event apart and serve to distinguish various spaces within the event as well. Virtual Entertainment Just because you've brought your event online doesn't mean that you need to forego entertainment. Certain entertainment opportunities, such as musical performances, can translate very well to virtual events. There have already been several entirely virtual concerts in the last few weeks, including the One World: Together at Home concert just this past weekend. The event was hosted by Global Citizen and the World Health Organization and was streamed on most major social media and streaming platforms. The artists' performances were prerecorded and then broadcast, which made sense for an event of this scale. For smaller affairs, including a live-streamed performance can add a special touch to your event. EventMB's next online event taking place April 30th, Managing the Virtual Experience, will include a musical performance by Benji Harris from SongDivision. People are missing concerts, shows, and countless other in-person experiences due to the pandemic, so incorporating a performance of some sort is a nice way to bring entertainment directly to them. Just like every other part of the industry, event entertainment companies are pivoting to virtual and can assist with bringing different types of entertainment to your online event. Health and Wellbeing Activities Online workout and dance videos are the only options for many people looking to exercise during this pandemic, and incorporating these types of activities into your event is a good way to switch things up and deliver unexpected value to attendees. #MarTechFest Dial Up, which will be taking place next month, plans to include workout and meditation sessions throughout their event to get minds and bodies "ready to engage." Depending on the format of your event, you could organize a short workout or meditation break in between sessions, or have a separate stream for these kinds of activities that attendees can tune into throughout the event for a change of pace. Intro Tutorial Video It's important to remember that while many eventprofs have never organized a virtual event and are unfamiliar with the inner workings of online conferences, many attendees may not be used to navigating and attending them and may need a little help. Google SheetsCon, which was hosted on a custom event platform (as was Adobe's), addressed this by including a short intro video for people to watch as they logged into the platform. This video acted as a brief tutorial that introduced attendees to the platform’s different features and instructed them on how to interact with the various pages. Making sure everyone is comfortable with the platform and familiar with how the event will work is an important step in ensuring attendees take advantage of everything you’ve implemented and get the most value out of it. Incentives to Engage Online Giveaways are always a good way to increase engagement with attendees and can be a fun addition to a virtual event. Although it's not quite as simple as handing an attendee their prize, there are virtual goodies you can offer, and there's still the option of mailing physical incentives to attendees following the event. As part of their event, Google SheetsCon hosted an incredibly popular contest to win one of 25 swag bags that they had put together with branded event shirts and stickers. In order to win, participants had to share something about the event on social media using the dedicated event hashtag, or visit at least 5 of the sponsor booth pages during the event. Using criteria like these helps increase brand awareness and also works to engage attendees, so it's a win for everyone. Uniting Behind a Common Purpose When all Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) events were cancelled this year, eventprofs rallied together to create a virtual event instead and aimed to break the world record for the most people in a virtual meeting. Although they didn't quite succeed, they were able to get 12,500 people to join for the live webcast, which is still a major feat. You don't need to break a world record to use this approach. The extremely high participation in this event was partly due to the excitement of achieving something together. Collaboration and camaraderie are strong forces of engagement. In keeping with the times, you could announce that you will be donating a certain amount to a healthcare organization or charity for every share or like you receive on social media. Bonus: Announce Your Virtual Alternative When You Cancel Your Live Event While not an idea for a virtual event per se, a best practice to keep in mind around the cancellation and postponement of events is to plan ahead and announce any virtual alternative that you'll be organizing as soon as you announce the cancellation of the original event. When the 2020 HIMSS Global Health Conference & Exhibition was cancelled, no alternative was proposed. The industry created its own replacement event, Virtual Health Conference 20. The official event has since announced its intention to organize a virtual edition of the conference, but no date has been announced, and it remains to be seen whether it will be impacted by the unofficial version that has already taken place. A community initiative and grassroots events organization also emerged after the cancellation of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, and the Tech Spirit Barcelona event rose up in its place. By contrast, Salesforce planned ahead for a virtual replacement for their World Tour Sydney event in March and simply announced that the format of the event would be changing. The event's live-stream drew over 80,000 attendees, so it was clearly successful in maintaining its audience through the transition. While these grassroots events showcase the incredible resilience and motivation of event industry professionals, they are also important for planners to keep in mind so that they don't risk losing their event to a faster-moving, unofficial alternative.   IN CONCLUSION The age of virtual events is only beginning, and as they continue to take place — especially from major companies like Facebook and Microsoft that have now cancelled all live events through mid-2021 — there will undoubtedly be more innovation to look to for inspiration. This year hasn't turned out how anyone expected or hoped, but there's still time to make the most of it and capitalize on virtual events. Use some of these ideas as guidance to continue delivering event experiences to attendees and stakeholders from the comfort of home.

XCOM: CHIMERA SQUAD | GAME REVIEW

XCOM: Chimera Squad is still classic XCOM. You gather resources and unlock technology on the strategic map, and then dive into turn-based tactical battles to secure objectives and beat down the resistance menace. The world has changed, though. The Advent war is over.

The storyline

Humans, aliens, and hybrids have reached an uneasy peace. In City 31 they live side by side, but there are still restless groups who want to continue the grudges of the Advent war. Chimera Squad is a special forces unit designed to cripple those resistance movements and keep the peace.

There’s no world map here. The game focuses purely on City 31’s nine districts. You have to manage levels of unrest in each district to keep the city’s anarchy level low. If the city anarchy bar maxes out, it’s game over.

What is there to do?

To save the city you need to investigate three resistance groups, one at a time. You take on missions, gather intel, research new gear, unmask each group’s leader, and then take them out in climactic final missions. Don’t be fooled by the smaller scale; this is still a lengthy, chunky tactics game.

Missions are much shorter than XCOM fans will be familiar with, however. Some are just a few rooms packed with enemies. Significant missions are chains of three room-clears, each of which has a ‘breach’ phase in which you position your squad at different entrance points. That’s why my squad members are dangling off ropes outside an old warehouse.

The breach phase is chaotic. One by one my four squaddies smash through their assigned window. Then time slows to a crawl. The camera shifts to an over-the-shoulder perspective as my primary breacher, Cherub, takes aim.

The camera has a blurry fish-eye filter that makes it impossible to gauge the layout of the room, but I can switch focus between enemies and choose what I want to pick off. I tab between enemies, noting their classes.

There’s a turret—that will deal with reliable damage to my squad over time, but it can wait. There are a couple of androids, easily killed but they can self-destruct and do significant area-of-effect damage.

Then I see a purifier. The purifier has to die. It’s just a man with a flamethrower, but area-of-effect attacks are massive when you’re fighting at room-scale.

The flames can linger and make traversal a nightmare. Also, the initial spray can set off explosive barrels, creating a cascade of events that could end up with my entire squad aflame and covered in acid.

Instead of shooting, I order Cherub to hunker down. You don’t create your own characters in Chimera Squad. Each of the 11 available heroes has unique abilities.

The differences

Each function as a separate class. You’ll recognize some archetypes from XCOM 2—the gunslinger, the medic with a healing drone, the shotgun maniac. Then there are others like the muton Axiom, who hits people and sometimes goes berserk in the middle of a mission.

This approach sacrifices one of XCOM’s greatest features: the ability to name your soldiers and bond with them over the course of a campaign. There are advantages though. Each character is voiced.

The story is told through cartoon vignettes that efficiently lay out the stakes and do a good job of describing the new world order with humor and character—one off the cuff description explains that City 31’s inhabitants fry and eat the terrifying Chryssalids as though they’re lobsters.

There’s tension too. Some of the hybrids on your team may have fought on the alien side in the Advent war against humans. The events of XCOM 2 loom over City 31 throughout.

Cherub’s hunker down ability is amazing. He draws all enemy fire and takes it harmlessly on his shield, sparing his teammates from the threat of return fire. Next up is my most powerful guy, the psionic Verge.

Instead of shooting, he uses his mind to lift the purifier out of cover. Suspended in midair, he’s an easy target for my other two teammates, who execute him before the battle even starts.

Your soldiers can’t die in XCOM: Chimera. If you evac and leave them bleeding out on the tarmac they register as ‘gravely wounded’ at the end of a mission.

Wounds don’t take soldiers out of action, instead, there’s a chance that they will give that agent a ‘scar’, which amounts to a stat reduction that you can burn off by sending that agent on a healing training routine for a few turns.

Watch out though, some missions auto fail if you let an agent bleed out. As long as you stabilize them, you’re fine.

I found the breach phase irritating at first. I’m used to having a lot more battlefield awareness in XCOM, but Chimera Squad deliberately sends you in blind. It’s a very different dynamic to XCOM 2.

That game is about advancing efficiently and positioning properly across large maps. You manage odds and control the situation as much as possible. Chimera Squad throws a scenario at you and shouts “catch!”.

The breach phase is about eliminating important enemies. Once that’s over your squad automatically moves to cover and a traditional XCOM fight ensues. They take cover intelligently, most of the time, but it’s another point where the game takes tactical choice away from you.

Once I learned to shrug and go with the flow of the game I started to like it a lot more, but you’re always a victim of circumstance in Chimera Squad.

Learning

Things picked up when my heroes started to level up and their unique talents came online. There are some delicious combos to unlock. My medic has an incredible ability to give a teammate a free action.

This is fantastic paired with Verge, who can draw enemies into a psychic web, one by one, and then zap them all with his brain for guaranteed damage. In XCOM’s world of percentage changes, that sort of en masse two-to-three points of chip damage is gold.

Beautifully, he can brain-zap everyone, and then the medic can throw him a free action so he can brain-zap everyone again. These are XCOM Chimera’s best moments when you engineer team combos and wipe out a whole room in just a few turns.

I like the heroes a lot, but there’s not much experimentation space in XCOM, especially when fights are just a few rooms long. I wish the heroes had some of those powerful unique skills unlocked already so I could switch them around and play with combos right away.

The game removes XCOM 2’s health pool race at least, which demanded that you level up armor and weapons to keep up with enemies’ ever-expanding health bars.

That’s great in XCOM 2, but keeping health pools and damage output stable leaves you free to swap in inexperienced heroes without too much loss of power.

Performance

The game runs well on high and maximum settings for me on a GTX 970, with a few exceptions. There are certain points when the game stutters, notably sometimes when it’s seemingly resolving damage outcomes.

Breaching moments also involve a quick freeze when the actual breach happens and your agents storm in. The game is still perfectly playable, but it’s a regular annoyance.

The strategy layer of the game is surprisingly involved too. There’s no base building, but you still need to research technology, buy gadgets, and gather three resources: elerium, intel, and dollars.

I miss the cool visual armor and weapon upgrades of traditional XCOM. Without them, the strategy layer feels like fussy, abstract number crunching. You can (and really should) deploy field teams to the city’s districts. These function a bit like XCOM’s satellites.

They keep unrest down and feed your resources so you can buy rad flashbangs for your squad. Separately, you can deploy squad members to work on spec ops, which sounds exciting, but it’s just another way to hoover up resources. Without base building and XCOM 2’s lavish presentation, it all feels too much like admin.

It’s still an involving tactics game though. A curious XCOM experiment with a neat setting that I’d like to explore more. It’s fantastic value, too. This isn’t budget XCOM exactly, it’s an attempt to rework the series’ rules into a snappier experience.

The Verdict

There’s a version of Chimera Squad I can imagine that’s even more elegant and streamlined, but I still felt the familiar feelings of elation when a combo comes off, and annoyance when that 90 percent shot misses. If anything, it’s convinced me to start yet another XCOM 2 campaign, and that’s nothing bad.

10 Blog SEO Tips to Search Engine Optimize Your Blog Content

1. Focus on 1–2 long-tail keywords that match the intent of your ideal reader.

Optimizing your blog posts for keywords is not about incorporating as many keywords into your posts as possible. Nowadays, this actually hurts your SEO because search engines consider this keyword stuffing (i.e., including keywords as much as possible with the sole purpose of ranking highly in organic search).

It also doesn't make for a good reader experience -- a ranking factor that search engines now prioritize to ensure you're answering the intent of your visitors. Therefore, you should use keywords in your content in a way that doesn't feel unnatural or forced.

A good rule of thumb is to focus on one or two long-tail keywords per blog post. While you can use more than one keyword in a single post, keep the focus of the post narrow enough to allow you to spend time actually optimizing for just one or two keywords.

Why long-tail keywords? These longer, often question-based keywords keep your post focused on the specific goals of your audience. Website visitors searching long-tail terms are more likely to read the whole post and then seek more information from you. In other words, you'll generate right type of traffic: visitors who convert.

2. Include these 1–2 keywords in specific parts of your post.

Now that you've got your one or two keywords, it's time to incorporate them into your blog post. Where are the best parts of your posts to include these terms so you rank high in search results?

There are four essential places where you should try to include your keywords: title tag, headers & body, URL, and meta description.

Title Tag

The title (i.e., headline) of your blog post will be a search engine's and reader's first step in determining the relevancy of your content, so including a keyword here is vital. Google calls this the "title tag" in a search result.

Be sure to include your keyword within the first 60 characters of your title, which is just about where Google cuts titles off on search engine results pages (SERPs). Technically, Google measures by pixel width, not character count, and it recently increased the pixel width for organic search results from approximately 500 pixels to 600 pixels, which translates to around 60 characters.

Long title tag? When you have a lengthy headline, it's a good idea to get your keyword in the beginning since it might get cut off in SERPs toward the end, which can take a toll on your post's perceived relevancy. In the example below, we had a long title that went over 65 characters, so we front-loaded it with the keyword for which we were trying to rank: "on-page SEO."

Headers & Body

Mention your keyword at a normal cadence throughout the body of your post and in the headers. That means including your keywords in your copy, but only in a natural, reader-friendly way. Don't go overboard at the risk of being penalized for keyword stuffing. Before you start writing a new blog post, you'll probably think about how to incorporate your keywords into your post. That's a smart idea, but it shouldn't be your only focus, nor even your primary focus.

Whenever you create content, your primary focus should be on what matters to your audience, not how many times you can include a keyword or keyword phrase in that content. Focus on being helpful and answering whatever question your customer might've asked to arrive on your post. Do that, and you'll usually find you naturally optimize for important keywords, anyway.

Search engines also look to your URL to figure out what your post is about, and it's one of the first things it'll crawl on a page. You have a huge opportunity to optimize your URLs on every post you publish, as every post lives on its own unique URL -- so make sure you include your one to two keywords in it.

In the example below, we created the URL using the long-tail keyword for which we were trying to rank: "email marketing examples."

Meta Description

Later in this post, we'll dive into meta descriptions a bit more. Your meta description is meant to give search engines and readers information about your blog post's content -- so be certain to use your long-tail term so Google and your audience are clear on your post's content.

At the same time, keep in mind the copy matters a great deal for click-through rates because it satisfies certain readers' intent. The more engaging, the better.

3. Make sure your blog is mobile-friendly.

Did you know more people use a search engine from their mobile phones than from a computer?

And for all those valuable search queries being done on mobile, Google displays the mobile-friendly results first. This is yet another example of Google heavily favoring mobile-friendly websites -- which has been true ever since the company updated its Penguin algorithm in April 2015.

So, how do you make your blog mobile-friendly? By using "responsive design." Websites that are responsive to mobile allow blog pages to have just one URL instead of two -- one for desktop and one for mobile, respectively. This helps your post's SEO because any inbound links that come back to your site won't be divided between the separate URLs.

As a result, you'll centralize the SEO power you gain from these links, helping Google more easily recognize your post's value and rank it accordingly.

Pro tip: What search engines value is constantly changing. Be sure you're keeping on top of these changes by subscribing to Google's official blog.

4. Optimize the meta description, and use all the space.

To review, a meta description is the additional text that appears in SERPs that lets readers know what the link is about. The meta description gives searchers information they need to determine whether or not your content is what they're looking for, and ultimately helps them decide if they'll click or not.

The maximum length of this meta description is greater than it once was -- now around 300 characters -- suggesting it wants to give readers more insight into what each result will give them.

So, in addition to being reader-friendly (compelling and relevant), your meta description should include the long-tail keyword for which you are trying to rank.

In the example above, I searched for "email newsletter examples." The term is bolded in the meta description, helping readers make the connection between the intent of their search term and this result. You'll also see the term "E-Newsletter" bolded, indicating that Google knows there's a semantic connection between "email newsletter" and "E-Newsletter."

Note: Nowadays, it's not guaranteed that your meta description is always pulled into SERPs as it once was. As you can see in the above image, Google pulls in other parts of your blog post that includes the keywords searched, presumably to give searchers optimal context around how the result matches their specific query.

Let me show you another example. Below is an example of two different search queries delivering two different snippets of text on Google SERPs. The first is a result of the query "no index no follow," and pulls in the original meta description:

The second is a result of the query "noindex nofollow," and pulls in the first instance of these specific keywords coming up in the body of the blog post:

While there's not much you can do to influence what text gets pulled in, you should continue to optimize this metadata, as well as your post, so search engines display the best content from the article. By creating reader-friendly content with natural keyword inclusion, you'll make it easier for Google to prove your post's relevancy in SERPs for you.

5. Optimize your images' alt text.

Blog posts shouldn't only contain text -- you should also include images that help explain your content. But search engines don't just look for images. Rather, they look for images with alt text.

Because search engines can't "see" images the same way humans can, an image's alt text tells them what an image is about -- which ultimately helps those images rank in Google Images results. Alt text also makes for a better user experience, as it'll display inside the image container when an image can't be found or displayed, and can improve accessibility for people with poor vision who are using screen readers.

Technically, alt text is an attribute that can be added to an image tag in HTML. Here's what a complete image tag might look like (bolding added for emphasis):

Adding keywords to your alt text may seem minor -- and it isn't going to impact your search rankings as much as other things on this list. But it is worth the extra minute it takes to change the name from "IMG23940" to something accurate and descriptive, like "puppies-playing-in-basket:"

HubSpot customers: The SEO Panel will recognize whether or not you have optimized your images. Though these elements are not as important as some other optimizations, they're still necessary (not to mention easy to add).

6. Don't use too many similar topic tags.

Topic tags can help organize your blog content, but if you overuse them, they can actually be harmful. If you have too many similar tags, you may get penalized by search engines for having duplicate content.

Think of it this way: when you create a topic tag, you also create a new site page where the content from those topic tags will appear. If you use too many similar tags for the same content, it then appears to search engines as if you're showing the content multiple times throughout your website. For example, topic tags like "blogging," "blog," and "blog posts" are too similar to one another to be used on the same post.

If you're worried that your current blog posts have too many similar tags, take some time in the near future to clear them up. Choose about 15–25 topic tags that you think are important to your blog and that aren't too similar to one another, and then only tag your posts with those keywords. That way, you won't have to worry about duplicate content.

7. Use URL structures that help your visitors.

The URL structure of your web pages (which are different from the specific URLs of your posts) should make it easy for your visitors to understand the structure of your website and the content they're about to see. Search engines favor web page URLs that make it easier for them and website visitors to understand the content on the page.

This differentiation is baked into the HubSpot blogs' respective URL structures. If I decided to go to the Marketing section from this main page, I would be taken to the URL http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing. If we want to read the Sales section, all we have to do is change where it says "marketing" in the URL to "sales": http://blog.hubspot.com/sales. This URL structure helps me understand that "/marketing" and "/sales" are smaller sections -- called subdirectories -- within the larger blog.

What if there's a specific article we want to read, such as "How to Do Keyword Research: A Beginner's Guide"? Its URL structure -- http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/how-to-do-keyword-research-ht -- denotes that it's an article from the Marketing section of the blog.

In this way, URL structure acts as a categorization system for readers, letting them know where they are on the website and how to access new site pages. Search engines appreciate this, as it makes it easier for them to identify exactly what information searchers will access on different parts of your blog or website.

8. Link internally when possible.

Inbound links to your content help show search engines the validity or relevancy of your content. The same goes for linking internally to other pages on your website. If you've written about a topic that's mentioned in your blog post on another blog post, ebook, or web page, it's a best practice to link to that page.

You might've noticed that I've been doing that from time to time throughout this blog post when I think it's helpful for our readers. Not only will internal linking help keep visitors on your website, but it also surfaces your other relevant and authoritative pages to search engines.

9. Use Google's Search Console.

Google's free Search Console contains a section called the Search Analytics Report. This report helps you analyze clicks from Google Search, and it's useful to determine which keywords people are using to find your blog content. A lot of content marketers struggle with optimizing their blog posts for search. The truth is, your blog posts won't start ranking immediately. It takes time to build up search authority. But when you publish blog posts frequently and consistently optimize them for search while maintaining an intent-based reader experience, you'll reap the rewards in the form of traffic and leads long-term.

10. Use topic clusters.

The way most blogs are currently structured (including our own blogs, until very recently), bloggers and SEOs have worked to create individual blog posts that rank for specific keywords. The result is disorganized, and hard for the user to find the exact information he or she needs. It also results in your own URLs competing against one another in search engine rankings when you produce multiple blog posts about similar topics.

Here's what our blog architecture used to look like using this old playbook:

Now, in order to rank in search and best answer the new types of queries searchers are submitting, the solution is to use the topic cluster model: Choose the broad topics for which you want to rank, then create content based on specific keywords related to that topic that all link to each other, to create broader search engine authority.

Using this model, this is what our blog infrastructure looks like now -- with specific topics surrounded by blog posts related to the topic, connected to other URLs in the cluster via hyperlinks:

This model uses a more deliberate site architecture to organize and link URLs together to help more pages on your site rank in Google -- and to help searchers find information on your site more easily. This architecture consists of three components -- pillar content, cluster content, and hyperlinks:

We don't expect you to incorporate each of these SEO best practices into your content strategy right away. But as your website grows, so should your goals on search engines. Then you'll be able to do some link building to get other websites to link back to your blog!

Once you identify the goals and intent of your ideal readers, you'll be on track to deliver content organically that is always relevant to them.

Voltron fic. Post Season One (Not taking into account the Season 2 Trailer or clips. Written 3 months ago). Plot- driven. Lot’s of sub-textual Klance. Genre: Adventure/Scifi. 10 Chapters total. 20k.

Description: This fic follows Lance as he’s launched into an unknown region of the Galaxy to a solar system that hasn’t been invaded by Galra yet. However the natives have also heard of Voltron and don’t want to be associated with it either. The authorities get suspicious enough about an unknown species (Lance) taking scrap metal from the junk yard for the past three months on one of their planets, Cortaalis, to put him in a maximum security prison. Now that he’s the talk of the solar system, he runs the risk of the Galra finding out where he is. (Keith will wiggle his way into the story early on too tho)

There’s swearing, some angst, and some violence, but that should be it.

Chapter 1/10: Split

He missed Blue the most. If anyone had asked him three months ago he would've said he missed his crew, Shiro, Hunk, Pidge, Allura, Coran the most... hell, even Mullet floated into his mind with great frequency. But that was three months ago. Three months since the Wormhole Incident.

And it had only been a week and a half since he's been forcefully separated from Blue. Her easy and smooth tone had been the only thing to remind him to be hopeful at times like this. He dug his head into his hands and pressed his knees closer to his chest. He remembered everything so clearly...

The moment he went through the blue swirling vortex the feed on his helmet was cut off. No more teammates by his side. He was all alone. The starry scene in front of him, while serene, panicked him. Everything was silent for just a second, save for the soft hum of Blue's engines he had grown accustomed to, like being in an airplane. The way he could hear her breathe even though she was technically a machine. He gasped for air, fogging up the inside of his helmet.

"Guys?"His voice was a sharp contrast to the dead silence of space. But no one responded.

He tried again, feeling his stomach twist. "Can any- AGH!" He was interrupted by a loud jarring crash. His head reeled as he was jerked around, the only thing keeping him from becoming a human pinball being his seat belt. His head smacked against the back of the seat, sending an intense wave of pain through his rattled skull. Something had collided with Blue. Something big. There was a loud metallic lurch deep inside Blue's chest.

"What was that!?" He asked her, one eye closed. Every light and every color had intensified to the point of nearly blinding him. Blue's head turned and he jumped. It was a giant asteroid. She kicked, trying to get her engines working again, but they were failing. And now the two were being rocketed away, incapable of changing direction. Blue's control room was creaking and shaking, giving away to intense nausea that threatened to soil his armor and anything else that happened to be in the vicinity.

Land. Blue's voice echoed in his mind. Find land.

Lance rubbed his eyes, but his vision would not clear back up. His hands flailed around him trying to locate the familiar grips of the controls. Her engines may be damaged, but he could at least try to steady themselves. He blinked several times and then let out a curse. He could see nothing. Too many sounds, too much light. One of his ears muted out all other sounds except a high pitched ringing noise. One of his hands found a grip.

He pulled with all of his might on the single control. Lance could not tell by sight whether it was working, but the turning in his stomach calmed down and alleviated the nausea somewhat. Good good. She's steadying. With the other hand he checked his head. His elevated heart rate sent a new wave of adrenaline through his body with every pulse, each beat causing an explosion in his brain. He wrenched his helmet off his head, sending a spray of sweat across the deck. "Ooww..." He chocked out through gritted teeth.

Land. There's a planet. Lance took a few deep breaths, trying to block out the pain. If he could connect with Blue he could in theory see what she could see. He knew how much trouble he'd had connecting with his lion like Shiro could do. And he was not in the best head space to try it now. Nonetheless a fuzzy image came through. I did it! Yes! I guess it only takes a concussion and free floating through space. Blue was still spinning. The stars were still a blur. But she was right, there was a greenish planet not too far off. In fact, a whole solar system of six or seven planets of various sizes lay out in front of them, with an enormous sun right in the middle.

He wanted to worry about his teammates so badly, but the situation would not allow it. Lance only hoped that they hadn't had the misfortune of colliding with a giant space rock like he had.

"Okay Blue. Let's make this landing as easy as it can be." He tightened his grip on the control, and untensed his body. She guided him to the second control, and he prepared for a tough impact. The planet should have been far enough away that it would have taken a long time to get pulled into its atmosphere. No, but we're going fast enough we'll get there in a couple seconds. Here comes the hard part Blue. He felt her nod in wordless agreement.

Lance hoped the little he'd retained in high school about physics would save his life. His lion's velocity increased as they were pulled into the planet's atmosphere. The stars were replaced with the first clouds under the thin outer layer of life sustaining gases. Time to pull up. He pulled on the controls, hands trembling and knuckles white under his now uncomfortably warm armor. It's gonna get hot, I'm sorry girl. He apologized to his lion. Some of her would burn up on their way down. But he planned to minimize that as much as he could. By pulling up every time they gained too much speed, he could slow the heating process, and maybe they could live when they reached the ground.

Each time he pulled up he felt the slight relief of gravity putting a strain on his bones and his limbs. It was hard enough holding on to the controls when the entire deck was rattling non stop from the turbulence of actually free falling, but when gravity applied, it was a whole new story. His fingers were numb. He was squeezing all of the blood out of his clenched fists. His eyes hurt from squeezing them shut too.

When he got close enough to the ground to see it, a new rush of fear seeped into his mind. The land was much less land as it was a green blur. We're going so fast. Blue...

We will live. She replied curtly. She extended all four limbs.

Ha. Cats always land on their feet, huh? He forced a smile. He may have felt humor on the inside, but his body was devoid of any discernible emotion. She did not reply, but he could feel her cold hard glare burning through him. Just like old times. Still got it. He let one eye open to test his sight. The colors were still bright as hell, but the ringing in his ear had subsided and he was able to see what was in front of him. They were close now. Lance was above a forest, about three hundred feet up still. Blue's body was smoking, Lance's own armor searing. They were flying nearly parallel to the ground. His grip loosened. Just a few more seconds and they would have impact. The lion wavered side to side. She was attempting to land on her feet, even though her back two legs were mangled. This is it.

Put your helmet back on. She ordered, and he did. They braced for impact.

He was brought back to reality. The dull repetitive thunk of a prisoner's giant fist one cell to his right had been droning on for hours. He did this a lot. Others near him shouted and complained, some even going so far as to insult the guard every time she walked past, and trying to bypass the light green electrified energy shield, only to be shocked and howl in pain. Lance had only ever tried it once. And the scar left on his right hand was, he had to admit, a powerful deterrent.

Lance didn't belong here. The only reason he'd been put here was because some had gotten suspicious about who he was.

He understood why they were wary of his identity. Apparently this solar system was not yet part of the Galra Empire, and their leaders were not happy about the idea of joining them. But at the same time they despised Voltron, and wanted nothing to do with them either. Any association meant being noticed by the Galra, putting their planets at risk. That made sense.

Throughout the last two and a half months he'd been living as a regular citizen of the green planet known as Cortaalis. He spent his days wandering around the nearby cities trying to find the parts to repair his lion. Her chest was split wide open, and massive dents and slashes scarred her. He knew very little about mechanics (that was Hunk's department), but no one knew Blue better than Blue, and she'd been walking him through it. The problem was it was incredibly slow- going. After every long day he slept in the control deck. He could understand why people would get suspicious of the same guy desperately looking for spare junk metal and various different reactors. Lance had made some acquaintances along the way, those who would help him find what he needed, or a close proximity to it. That was a plus. He had to admit it was a pretty nice place to live, too. The cities were large and they were advanced enough for him to find what he needed for Blue."When I fix you up, we'll be outta here and we'll find our team." He kept telling himself then.

His fatal mistake was when he was interrogated by some officials, some strange orange tinted aliens, he'd accidentally used the name "Blue". That was enough for him to be shipped off to the highest security prison on the planet of Cortaalis. This was the place they sent the baddest of the bad.

"'We'll find our team'. Yeah right." He muttered to himself now. He'd overheard from the guards the other day that news had gotten out about a paladin being discovered on Cortaalis, and the entire solar system was in an uproar now because of him. They'd all been ordered by whoever was in charge to keep quiet while they decided what to do. Some argued that they should just hand him over, others wanted him killed, and still others were in favor of simply shipping him out in a space pod to fend for himself.

His only comfort was that to his knowledge, they had not found Blue yet.

"Hey, keep it down over there!" The guy on the other side of the guy banging his fist against the wall yelled at Lance.

"It's not me Dreks, it's the other guy again." He replied, voice muffled by his arms.

"Oh! My apologies Lance." He sputtered. Dreks was his only ally. A giant dark green alien with some humanoid features about his like his face and hands, but everything else was a wide array of different limbs and spikes. His shoulders were always hunched, and he was missing an eye and many teeth. Dreks was arguably the scariest person locked up here. And yet he was probably also the nicest. I mean, he's still pretty screwed up in the brain. I heard in the mess hall that he'd stabbed four other prisoners with one of his own spikes he'd torn off of himself to use as a shiv. But Dreks been sympathetic toward him. And plus, making friends with the scariest guy there guaranteed his safety.

"It's cool bro." He said unenthusiastically. Lance was just tired. he wanted to sleep. All of this noise made that damn near impossible too.

Four essential ecommerce site optimizations that drive sales

The whole point of marketing is to deliver the right message to the right audience at the right time. But what about conversion optimization? How do you know which tool to use in which area of your ecommerce site that’s key to the customer journey? What’s better for a particular campaign?

In this article, we cover a list of ecommerce site optimization suggestions and tactics that can boost your sales.

1. Design and UX

A. Optimize your home page

So, there’s the home page of your ecommerce site. The first thing your target visitor expects to see on it is the product/service you’re selling.

Since a person’s eye first falls on the center of the page, it is better to attract his attention with a bright thematic image of the main product.

Suppose the image has worked and the user has decided to stay. Now he would like to know what shop he got into, whether it’s worth buying here. The vision moves to the bar in the top of the site, where it’s necessary to place:

The search bar

Contact details (obligatory – phones, in addition – addresses and hours and other means of communication, button to order a call). According to the survey results, 90% of respondents confirmed that they once became the victim of fraudsters when making online purchases. This means that the trust of customers must be earned, and detailed information about the store – one of the effective ways.

Shopping cart (always on the right)

Here you can also find a horizontal menu with product categories or information pages (delivery and payment, reviews, FAQs).

Becoming acquainted with your shop, the visitor will surely want to explore a variety of products. As usual, on the left side of the screen, they will look through the category menu. A left sidebar is an appropriate place not only product categories, but also news, promotional, and top products, if necessary – the benefits of buying.

B. Simplify your product categories

The visitor gets to the category page in one of three ways – goes from the main page, goes from the search, goes from advertising. In each case, they want to see exactly the products they’re looking for.

On this page, everything should be extremely simple, clear, and convenient – especially the images of goods to make sure that the person got to the address.

The left-side docket provides the advantage of sorting products in customized searches and detailed views.

Important: If the product is out of stock, it’s better to gently notify the client – to offer to buy under the order or notify about the receipt of goods.

If the visitor opened the product card, the main thing they want to see here is a good photo, price, a button to buy. These are the elements that need to be highlighted and worked through.

Therefore, only high-quality professional photos may convince the customer to make a purchase, with the possibility of magnification, taken from different angles. Place a photo in the left upper part of the card. Being acquainted with appearance, the client for certain will be interested in the description of the goods.

The card should be compact but filled with the basic characteristics, feedback and evaluation of the product by customers (psychological trigger of social evidence). This will increase confidence in the store.

The order of placement of all elements in the product card should follow the logic of the client: What is the product/service? How much does it cost? How to buy and get?

This information is offered to the person consistently, which corresponds to the AIDA marketing model:

2. Understand and fix server site errors

Much has been written about the usability of the site. Today, anyone who has their own ecommerce site understands what is needed at the start. But, even working with large sites, you can notice a certain tendency of repetition in usability shortcomings. One of them is related to displaying server errors.

A. Error 404 is helpful

The 404 error page is one of the most common and yet undeservedly forgotten errors. Keep in mind that our main task is to ensure the longest interaction between a user and the site. That’s why even the 404 page should not lose a user at least but redirect them to another useful section of the site.

Act as a guide and prompt your site visitor the following steps: “Return to Home”, “Order a call”, “Pick up similar ones?”

Again, act creatively – it’s a whole free page on your resource. Ask yourself, “what can be placed there?” Once again remind your target audience about the company with the logo, give a coupon/discount to the “Top Sales”, make an announcement of upcoming promotions, lotteries or the opening of new sites.

Do not forget about the correct title for pages 404 error. For example, “404 Not Found”. In a series of open tabs in the browser is much more convenient to see immediately “broken” URLs.

And, of course, check that all links on your 404 page are working.  If you redirect the user to the main page or directory, the links must be correct and working. Finally, owners of ecommerce sites, in particular, should know basic information about HTTP code errors and how to fix them.

3. Improve the shopping experience

A. Setup structure so visitors can easily find products

If you have a good understanding of your business, it will be easy to identify the main product categories and divide them by their key attributes.

But if you are just starting your online business, you may have problems forming the structure of the catalog. In this case, you need to arm yourself with your own buying experience and proven recommendations for building a directory structure, analysis of competitors and their comparison with popular search engine queries.

Try to form a directory tree by keeping a balance between sections. There are some rules to follow when creating a directory structure:

According to the psychology of perception of information, 7 is the optimal number of sections of the highest level in the directory, in which the user can simultaneously capture the view.

In each subsection, there should be no more than 100 items. If any category has hundreds of items, and there are only 10-20 product cards in the neighbouring categories, it means that you should divide a large section into subdivisions or create a handy filter for key features.

The maximum level of nesting sections – no more than three: The buyer should go from the catalog to the product card in three clicks:

Section – First click > Subsection – Second click > Product – Thirsd click

The catalogue should be balanced: in each section, there should be an approximately equal number of subsections, and in each subsection – an approximately equal number of goods.

4. Tweak and test your ecommerce checkout process

A. Offer a variety of ways to buy wisely

Let’s start with the fact that there is no and can’t be a single ideal list of payment instruments for all sites. The list of payment methods is formed depending on several key factors:

The size of the average check

The geography of business

Goods or services

Habits of clients (buyers)

Next, we will give you some tips that will make the page of choice of payment methods as effective as possible.

B. Do not follow the logic of “the more, the better”

In most cases, only a couple of payment instruments are really in demand. The largest selection of payment methods provides its customers with coupon services, online software stores, ticket offices, and other services. In the vast majority of cases, 99% of online payments will fall on two-to-three payment instruments. Do not forget that most customers prefer to pay for large physical goods on delivery and check the quality of goods before buying.

C. Structure your payment methods

If you provide your clients with a wide range of payment instruments, create a separate section for bank cards, a separate section for electronic money, and a separate section for payments via mobile operators. Visualize payment methods with icons and logos. In large amounts of text, attention dissipates, sometimes it is difficult to understand how they differ. All discounts and commissions should be immediately converted into the final amount of the order.

D. Don’t scare the client with terminology

Your buyer does not have to know the terminology common among Internet entrepreneurs. Separately, it should be noted that even payment service providers, not to mention stores, often use completely different terms to denote certain phenomena of “payment reality”. Talk to customers in their language, and get rid of rejections at the stage of choosing a payment method and at the stage of payment, the additional burden on the call center and other consequences of misunderstanding.

E. Do not pass on your work to the customer

Often ecommerce businesses that accept payments through several payment services (aggregators, payment service providers, bank-acquirers) offer their customers to choose, but most likely, they hear about any for the first time.

F. Do not overload the payment page with unnecessary links

The buyer should not be distracted by unnecessary information and leave the payment instrument selection page. This breaks the conversion chain and negatively affects the proportion of successfully paid orders.

G. Let customers checkout as guests

Do you need to force a user to remember another login and password? I don’t think so. You should not create another obstacle to the client’s way of payment. Forcing users to register an account on your site is too obsessive, especially for first-time buyers. Mandatory registration is another winner of the “killer conversion” rating.

Usability research conducted by Smashing Magazine has shown that the main reason why users dislike registering accounts is waiting for unwanted spam. The study also noted that many customers do not understand why they need to register at an online store to buy something, while in offline stores they do not require registration when buying. Another disadvantage of registration is that it adds a few additional fields to fill, which delays the process of ordering and negatively affects the conversion. To make life easier for customers and increase the chances of a favorable outcome, it is necessary to minimize the customer’s time for ordering and request only the necessary minimum information from them.

Blogging helps boost SEO quality by positioning your website as a relevant answer to your customers' questions. Blog posts that specifically use a variety of on-page SEO tactics can give you more opportunities to rank in search engines and get customers to visit your site.

Search engine optimization is incredibly important for marketers. When you optimize your web pages -- including your blog posts -- you're making your website more visible to people who are entering keywords associated with your product or service via search engines like Google.

But Google's copious algorithm updates make this tricky. And today's SEO best practices are all about relevancy and intent. Keep reading -- I'll explain.

How do you know what matters and what doesn't? What are today's blog ranking tactics, and what's considered "old-school"? How on Earth can you keep it all straight?

Confusion is a common issue facing digital content marketers -- and we want to help. In this post, we'll cover how to optimize your blog posts for the keywords you care about, along with a few other optimization tactics you should keep in mind.

Note that this list doesn't cover every single rule under the sun. Rather, the following 10 SEO tips are the on-page factors to get you started with an SEO strategy for your blog in particular.

10 Blog SEO Tips to Search Engine Optimize Your Blog Content

1. Focus on 1–2 long-tail keywords that match the intent of your ideal reader.

Optimizing your blog posts for keywords is not about incorporating as many keywords into your posts as possible. Nowadays, this actually hurts your SEO because search engines consider this keyword stuffing (i.e., including keywords as much as possible with the sole purpose of ranking highly in organic search).

It also doesn't make for a good reader experience -- a ranking factor that search engines now prioritize to ensure you're answering the intent of your visitors. Therefore, you should use keywords in your content in a way that doesn't feel unnatural or forced.

A good rule of thumb is to focus on one or two long-tail keywords per blog post. While you can use more than one keyword in a single post, keep the focus of the post narrow enough to allow you to spend time actually optimizing for just one or two keywords.

Why long-tail keywords? These longer, often question-based keywords keep your post focused on the specific goals of your audience. Website visitors searching long-tail terms are more likely to read the whole post and then seek more information from you. In other words, you'll generate right type of traffic: visitors who convert.

2. Include these 1–2 keywords in specific parts of your post.

Now that you've got your one or two keywords, it's time to incorporate them into your blog post. Where are the best parts of your posts to include these terms so you rank high in search results?

There are four essential places where you should try to include your keywords: title tag, headers & body, URL, and meta description.

Title Tag

The title (i.e., headline) of your blog post will be a search engine's and reader's first step in determining the relevancy of your content, so including a keyword here is vital. Google calls this the "title tag" in a search result.

Be sure to include your keyword within the first 60 characters of your title, which is just about where Google cuts titles off on search engine results pages (SERPs). Technically, Google measures by pixel width, not character count, and it recently increased the pixel width for organic search results from approximately 500 pixels to 600 pixels, which translates to around 60 characters.

Long title tag? When you have a lengthy headline, it's a good idea to get your keyword in the beginning since it might get cut off in SERPs toward the end, which can take a toll on your post's perceived relevancy. In the example below, we had a long title that went over 65 characters, so we front-loaded it with the keyword for which we were trying to rank: "on-page SEO."

Headers & Body

Mention your keyword at a normal cadence throughout the body of your post and in the headers. That means including your keywords in your copy, but only in a natural, reader-friendly way. Don't go overboard at the risk of being penalized for keyword stuffing. Before you start writing a new blog post, you'll probably think about how to incorporate your keywords into your post. That's a smart idea, but it shouldn't be your only focus, nor even your primary focus.

Whenever you create content, your primary focus should be on what matters to your audience, not how many times you can include a keyword or keyword phrase in that content. Focus on being helpful and answering whatever question your customer might've asked to arrive on your post. Do that, and you'll usually find you naturally optimize for important keywords, anyway.

URL

Search engines also look to your URL to figure out what your post is about, and it's one of the first things it'll crawl on a page. You have a huge opportunity to optimize your URLs on every post you publish, as every post lives on its own unique URL -- so make sure you include your one to two keywords in it.

In the example below, we created the URL using the long-tail keyword for which we were trying to rank: "email marketing examples."

Meta Description

Later in this post, we'll dive into meta descriptions a bit more. Your meta description is meant to give search engines and readers information about your blog post's content -- so be certain to use your long-tail term so Google and your audience are clear on your post's content.

At the same time, keep in mind the copy matters a great deal for click-through rates because it satisfies certain readers' intent. The more engaging, the better.

3. Make sure your blog is mobile-friendly.

Did you know more people use a search engine from their mobile phones than from a computer?

And for all those valuable search queries being done on mobile, Google displays the mobile-friendly results first. This is yet another example of Google heavily favoring mobile-friendly websites -- which has been true ever since the company updated its Penguin algorithm in April 2015.

(HubSpot customers: Breathe easy. All content created on HubSpot's platform is automatically responsive to mobile devices.)

So, how do you make your blog mobile-friendly? By using "responsive design." Websites that are responsive to mobile allow blog pages to have just one URL instead of two -- one for desktop and one for mobile, respectively. This helps your post's SEO because any inbound links that come back to your site won't be divided between the separate URLs.

As a result, you'll centralize the SEO power you gain from these links, helping Google more easily recognize your post's value and rank it accordingly.

Pro tip: What search engines value is constantly changing. Be sure you're keeping on top of these changes by subscribing to Google's official blog.

4. Optimize the meta description, and use all the space.

To review, a meta description is the additional text that appears in SERPs that lets readers know what the link is about. The meta description gives searchers information they need to determine whether or not your content is what they're looking for, and ultimately helps them decide if they'll click or not.

The maximum length of this meta description is greater than it once was -- now around 300 characters -- suggesting it wants to give readers more insight into what each result will give them.

So, in addition to being reader-friendly (compelling and relevant), your meta description should include the long-tail keyword for which you are trying to rank.

In the example above, I searched for "email newsletter examples." The term is bolded in the meta description, helping readers make the connection between the intent of their search term and this result. You'll also see the term "E-Newsletter" bolded, indicating that Google knows there's a semantic connection between "email newsletter" and "E-Newsletter."

Note: Nowadays, it's not guaranteed that your meta description is always pulled into SERPs as it once was. As you can see in the above image, Google pulls in other parts of your blog post that includes the keywords searched, presumably to give searchers optimal context around how the result matches their specific query.

Let me show you another example. Below is an example of two different search queries delivering two different snippets of text on Google SERPs. The first is a result of the query "no index no follow," and pulls in the original meta description:

The second is a result of the query "noindex nofollow," and pulls in the first instance of these specific keywords coming up in the body of the blog post:

While there's not much you can do to influence what text gets pulled in, you should continue to optimize this metadata, as well as your post, so search engines display the best content from the article. By creating reader-friendly content with natural keyword inclusion, you'll make it easier for Google to prove your post's relevancy in SERPs for you.

5. Optimize your images' alt text.

Blog posts shouldn't only contain text -- you should also include images that help explain your content. But search engines don't just look for images. Rather, they look for images with alt text.

Because search engines can't "see" images the same way humans can, an image's alt text tells them what an image is about -- which ultimately helps those images rank in Google Images results. Alt text also makes for a better user experience, as it'll display inside the image container when an image can't be found or displayed, and can improve accessibility for people with poor vision who are using screen readers.

Technically, alt text is an attribute that can be added to an image tag in HTML. Here's what a complete image tag might look like (bolding added for emphasis):

Adding keywords to your alt text may seem minor -- and it isn't going to impact your search rankings as much as other things on this list. But it is worth the extra minute it takes to change the name from "IMG23940" to something accurate and descriptive, like "puppies-playing-in-basket:"

HubSpot customers: The SEO Panel will recognize whether or not you have optimized your images. Though these elements are not as important as some other optimizations, they're still necessary (not to mention easy to add).

6. Don't use too many similar topic tags.

Topic tags can help organize your blog content, but if you overuse them, they can actually be harmful. If you have too many similar tags, you may get penalized by search engines for having duplicate content.

Think of it this way: when you create a topic tag, you also create a new site page where the content from those topic tags will appear. If you use too many similar tags for the same content, it then appears to search engines as if you're showing the content multiple times throughout your website. For example, topic tags like "blogging," "blog," and "blog posts" are too similar to one another to be used on the same post.

If you're worried that your current blog posts have too many similar tags, take some time in the near future to clear them up. Choose about 15–25 topic tags that you think are important to your blog and that aren't too similar to one another, and then only tag your posts with those keywords. That way, you won't have to worry about duplicate content.

7. Use URL structures that help your visitors.

The URL structure of your web pages (which are different from the specific URLs of your posts) should make it easy for your visitors to understand the structure of your website and the content they're about to see. Search engines favor web page URLs that make it easier for them and website visitors to understand the content on the page.

This differentiation is baked into the HubSpot blogs' respective URL structures. If I decided to go to the Marketing section from this main page, I would be taken to the URL http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing. If we want to read the Sales section, all we have to do is change where it says "marketing" in the URL to "sales": http://blog.hubspot.com/sales. This URL structure helps me understand that "/marketing" and "/sales" are smaller sections -- called subdirectories -- within the larger blog.

What if there's a specific article we want to read, such as "How to Do Keyword Research: A Beginner's Guide"? Its URL structure -- http://blog.hubspot.com/marketing/how-to-do-keyword-research-ht -- denotes that it's an article from the Marketing section of the blog.

In this way, URL structure acts as a categorization system for readers, letting them know where they are on the website and how to access new site pages. Search engines appreciate this, as it makes it easier for them to identify exactly what information searchers will access on different parts of your blog or website.

8. Link internally when possible.

Inbound links to your content help show search engines the validity or relevancy of your content. The same goes for linking internally to other pages on your website. If you've written about a topic that's mentioned in your blog post on another blog post, ebook, or web page, it's a best practice to link to that page.

You might've noticed that I've been doing that from time to time throughout this blog post when I think it's helpful for our readers. Not only will internal linking help keep visitors on your website, but it also surfaces your other relevant and authoritative pages to search engines.

9. Use Google's Search Console.

Google's free Search Console contains a section called the Search Analytics Report. This report helps you analyze clicks from Google Search, and it's useful to determine which keywords people are using to find your blog content. A lot of content marketers struggle with optimizing their blog posts for search. The truth is, your blog posts won't start ranking immediately. It takes time to build up search authority. But when you publish blog posts frequently and consistently optimize them for search while maintaining an intent-based reader experience, you'll reap the rewards in the form of traffic and leads long-term.

10. Use topic clusters.

The way most blogs are currently structured (including our own blogs, until very recently), bloggers and SEOs have worked to create individual blog posts that rank for specific keywords. The result is disorganized, and hard for the user to find the exact information he or she needs. It also results in your own URLs competing against one another in search engine rankings when you produce multiple blog posts about similar topics.

Here's what our blog architecture used to look like using this old playbook:

Now, in order to rank in search and best answer the new types of queries searchers are submitting, the solution is to use the topic cluster model: Choose the broad topics for which you want to rank, then create content based on specific keywords related to that topic that all link to each other, to create broader search engine authority.

Using this model, this is what our blog infrastructure looks like now -- with specific topics surrounded by blog posts related to the topic, connected to other URLs in the cluster via hyperlinks:

This model uses a more deliberate site architecture to organize and link URLs together to help more pages on your site rank in Google -- and to help searchers find information on your site more easily. This architecture consists of three components -- pillar content, cluster content, and hyperlinks:

We don't expect you to incorporate each of these SEO best practices into your content strategy right away. But as your website grows, so should your goals on search engines. Then you'll be able to do some link building to get other websites to link back to your blog!
