The Don Diaries
WELCOME! It's Sidney and Nathan's wedding day! I did promise Sidney a great boyfriend, and today is the day we turn him into a husband.
Before we begin, I want to make it very clear that we're in Sidney and Nathan's household, meaning that I have absolutely zero control over anyone else.
To say that I am scared would be an understatement.
But let's begin! We have Sidney's parents in the front row, and Jaime from the dorm next to Gina.
Tumblr media
You may wonder where Don is.
Don has, somewhat unwisely, decided to seat himself next to Miracle.
Tumblr media
I'm sure Gina won't find this weird - after all, Don is the man of honour, and Sidney likes Miracle way more than Gina so of course his two best friends get front row seats… right?
Don is crying all through the ceremony, so happy for Sidney.
Tumblr media
Sidney's mother is understandably also emotional, and Gina... looks like she doesn't want to be here.
Tumblr media
They tie the knot and Nathan is being extra about it.
Tumblr media
I may not control you but I see your thoughts, Don! Don't you dare!
Tumblr media
Nathan gives a toast and once again, the intimacy-deprived Don is never far from Miracle. I am on the edge of my seat and Gina is clearly keeping an eye on them.
Tumblr media
oh god the tension
Tumblr media
There is a brief disturbance as an uninvited pirate crashes the wedding on her bike.
Tumblr media
Order is quicky restored but she's definitely the talk of the party. I have no idea what is happening at this wedding anymore.
Tumblr media
ANYWAYS, back to the wholesome stuff, I need to get this party over with before anything bad happens.
Tumblr media
Don, there are literally free seats on both sides of Gina, why are you doing this??
Tumblr media
Miracle, no. Do not send him that look.
Tumblr media
FFS DON GET BACK HERE
Tumblr media
Nathan is exhausted and decides to nap, preventing me from getting the first dance done. But it's fine because I am distracted by now.
Tumblr media
oh god Gina please don't turn around
Tumblr media
I don't know what I expected, really.
It was inevitable.
Tumblr media
Gina finally gets up and goes looking for Don, probably.
Tumblr media
I sure hope she doesn't find him.
Tumblr media
Right. So that was a thing that happened.
Tumblr media
Quick, distract everyone with wholesomeness!
Tumblr media
During the dance, Gina seems... angrier than usual. I really hope it's just because of who she is as a person, and not because she somehow knows. Although that sweat overlay is pretty revealing, Don...
Tumblr media
I'm sure it's fine, everyone dances and the wedding was a great success and nothing bad happened at all, woo!
Tumblr media
Yup. Yup, everything's fine.
Tumblr media
We'll leave Sidney and Nathan for now, but not before they adopt baby Elle 💖
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tomorrow, we're going back to Don's household to survey the damage...

Chapter 16
The day had ended, it was already 5 pm and Aizawa had told us to go home. I got ahead of everybody and began walking home on my own.
Well, at least I wanted to.
"Wait, dickhead, we're going the same way," a hard jab to my side made me flinch and hold my ribs, I looked up and saw the spiky hair of a certain ash-blonde and an overly happy shark-teethed boy.
Bakugou and Kirishima.
"Ugh, why do I have to be with you every goddamn day? You're annoying, Katsuki," I said out loud and Eijiro laughed. Bakugou had his cheeks red but he was growling, and kicked a tiny stone on the sidewalk.
"Look who's talking," he quoted me, making fun of my voice. A fake offended gasp got past my lips.
"How dare you? That was an awful imitation of my voice," I pushed him playfully and he chuckled.
"It was a good try though."
"No, it wasn't."
We kept bickering back and forth for a while until Kirishima laughed. "You two are too opposite, but yet get along so well, I'm surprised."
"Well, he's the only extra that I can talk with," Bakugou tried to hug my shoulder, but because of our height difference, I had to bend down a bit.
"I'm not sure if I should be glad or offended, Katsuki," he smirked and let out another chuckle.
"You should be glad, you're Bakugou Katsuki's best friend. You should feel honoured." My sarcastic laugh made him poke hard my ribs, but that didn't stop me from making fun of him some more.
//////
Iida made us stand in four lines by each other, and the person next to us would be our seat partner. I got to sit with Bakugou, great.
He's not gonna stop annoying me. Not that I mind, I like the attention he gives me.
I sat by the window, and Bakugou plopped right beside me. I could see Aizawa at the front seat wanting to tell us something, but the loudness of the rest didn't let him. In the end, his eyes focused forward after trying and failing.
My eyes were droopy, I hadn't got a good sleep last night. The racing in my mind didn't let me. I laid my head back against the headrest and closed my eyes to sleep for the whole duration of this trip.
//////
A hard shake from the bus made me open my eyes, blinking to get rid of the blurry sight. I looked around, only to see that everybody had fallen asleep too, my body was feeling a bit numb so I tried to move, but a weight on my shoulder shifted.
Looking to my left, I saw Bakugou's head resting on me. That instantly made my heart thump, I was just hoping the noise of it wouldn't wake him up.
I looked away and out of the window, trying to just ignore his presence. But I couldn't.
Not when his fucking arm hugged my waist to pull me closer to him!
Okay, this made me remember that one time at his house. The first time I spent the night at the Bakugou's household. Now I had to think of something quick, I needed to pull him away or else-
"(M/n)..." my breath stopped and I didn't move a muscle for what felt like ages, waiting for him to say something else, but instead he just squirmed on his seat and moved his face closer to my neck.
Now his warm breath was touching my skin! This was too tempting. Why. God, why? What kind of test is this? You wanted to test my resistance with the person I like? Well, congratulations, I've never been so close to jump on him and kiss his lips to death.
Okay, maybe not to death, I still wanted him to be an annoying piece of shit, so maybe... until unconsciousness? Yeah, that seemed less deadly.
With a sudden urge to look at his peaceful face, a deep breath got in through my nose and out of my mouth. It's now or never, (M/n), you've got this, he's asleep and so is everybody else, they wouldn't think of you as a weirdo if you stare at Bakugou for hours, you can do it, just a tiny glance. Okay... 1... 2... 3!
I moved my head, being careful to not hit him and wake him up, and moved my eyes a bit down.
My god. Why does he have to be hella cute? I wanna eat him.
I felt my lips parting at the sight of his face. The most peaceful expression I have ever seen on his face, he did look like an angel, even more beautiful with the sun coming in through the window. But he had a little frown in the middle of his eyebrows, I tilted my head slightly to the right, covering his eyes from the sun, and the scowl disappeared. A smile tugged at his lips and I couldn't resist.
I leaned down to kiss his forehead and left trailing kisses to the tip of his nose. I was extremely tempted to kiss his lips, but I just left lots of tiny pecks on his cute nose, resting my forehead on his after I finished.
"I like you Katsuki... so much," I whispered and decided to look away, otherwise I would do something I would've regretted doing without his consent.
I kept looking out of the window, my mind blank now, and slowly, as the minutes went by, everybody began to wake up and stretch while yawning. Bakugou woke up too, and I quickly closed my eyes when he pulled back so abruptly. The feeling of his eyes on me was keeping me aware, I felt it, he was trying to know if I was sleeping or not, I had decided I was gonna play the 'I was sleeping, didn't know shit' card about the hugging situation.
He seemed to buy it though.
"Thank god he wasn't awake... that would've been really awkward," after that I waited some seconds, before I "woke up", moving and yawning for a bit, blinking some more and rubbing my eyes.
"Are we there yet?" I asked in my best attempt at a hoarse voice. This had to seem real, or he would realize.
"No, not yet at least," I nodded and kept my eyes focused on the world outside the window.

Katherine of York:
Henry (VIII)’s fondness for his aunt was once again demonstrated when in 1512 he granted Katherine all the Courtenay estates in Devon for the term of her life, and to be passed to her children upon her death. This act gave Katherine her much needed security, although did she have to make a sacrifice to pay for it? For shortly after William’s death, Katherine took the following vow of chastity:
In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, I, Katherine Courtneye, Countess of Devonshire, widow, and not wedded, ne unto any man assured, promise and make a vow to God, and to our Lady, and to all the Company of Heaven, in the presence of you, worshipful Father in God, Richard, Bishop of London, for to be chaste of my body, and truly and devoutly shall keep me chaste, for this time forward, as long as my life lasteth, after the rule of St Paul. In nomine Patris et Filii et Spiritus Sancti
The romantic perspective of course is that she took the vow because she deeply loved her husband and had come to a decision that she did not want to marry anyone else. This may well have been the case. But there is also a hypothesis that perhaps this vow may have either been a condition of Henry’s grant to her, or a condition Katherine placed upon herself to keep her lands and property safe. As the daughter of a Yorkist King, as much as Henry had a real regard for her, he may not have felt the same about any future man that she may have chosen to marry. There is no proof that he asked her to take the vow of chastity, but it may have been a bargaining tool that saw him grant her the estates, ultimately giving her security without the threat to himself of a new husband at some point in the future using her lineage to threaten the throne. But it may also of course have been something that Katherine decided was in her own best interests. Widows in medieval times were able to run their own estates and take care of their children but once they remarried, their power completely diminished and they once again because subservient to their husband. Having been through so much upheaval and insecurity, this was finally Katherine’s chance to take control of her own destiny once and for all and she must have grabbed the opportunity with both hands, never again having to rely on anyone else for help and support.
Once William had died Katherine spent less time and court and much more of her time on her Devon estates. She remained in favour with her nephew, Henry VIII, giving and receiving gifts from him, as well as several wardships. She was also given the honour of being godmother to Princess Mary.
As a femme sole, Katherine was now able to make a comfortable life for herself in Devon, and it seems she became a well-liked and respected member of the community. Her main residence was Tiverton Castle, which today is a privately owned house which the owners open up to the public. In an inventory taken in 1538 after the death of her eldest son, the castle is described as a mansion, moated, walled and embattled, with houses, offices and lodgings ‘well-kept and repaired’ with fair gardens and two parks. It was originally built as a motte and bailey castle in 1106 by the de Redvers family, the first Norman Earls of Devon. As the centuries moved on, the castle was altered and enlarged and exhibits today all periods of architecture from medieval to modern, along with beautiful walled gardens.
...For over fifteen years she lived here in relative peace and comfort, keeping in touch with her friends and family in London by letter and perhaps travelling to London and the court for special occasions. Household accounts that have survived from the period 1522-23 and 1523-24 detail payments to messengers for taking correspondence to the King and Cardinal Wolsey. She used for her title and seal ‘the excellent Princess Katherine, Countess of Devon, daughter, sister and aunt of Kings’ and in official documents, signed herself Katherine Devonshire.
She also paid a servant who took four horses to her daughter in London and remembered her husband William by paying for a mass on the anniversary of his death. A London Chandler was likewise paid for a year’s supply of wax for Lord William’s tomb.
Katherine ran her own estates with network of stewards and servants; some of her properties were administered for her by a bailiff, and some paid rent directly to her. Her influence was felt throughout the local area, an example of which can be found on a rood screen in Kenn church, which contains a panel to Saint Bridget and is the only known surviving example of a depiction of the Bridget cult in the south-west. The Courtenays presented to Kenn church and before its restoration in the nineteenth century the Courtenay arms were reportedly seen by antiquarians in the east window of the chancel and in a window in the south aisle. It is not believed that Katherine paid for the screen but the presence of Saint Bridget on one of the panels does suggest her influence, particularly because of her family connection to Saint Bridget, the saint whose name her younger sister bore. Katherine did visit the church at Kenn as she presented the new rector, Thomas Mitchell, in 1517. She certainly had a reputation in the parish for her generosity in the giving of alms and was a patron of several religious orders, inviting their members to come and preach at Columbjohn. The rood screen can still be seen today in St Andrew’s church in Kenn. During the reformation, many rood screens were renamed chancel screens but were often defaced or destroyed in an attempt to remove the images of saints and catholic idolatry. Amazingly the Kenn screen survived and it was renovated to its former glory in the nineteenth century.
... What we can also glean from these records is her generosity to staff. Philippa, her maid, upon her marriage received £6 13s 4d and Katherine also covered the cost of velvet for her wedding dress and kirtle, the cost of making the outfit and the cost of the wedding. ‘Andrew of the kitchen’ had garments made for him and her fools, Dick, Mug and Kit were well provided for as she paid for the mending and washing of their clothes. In her Will of 2nd May 1527 she made provision for her servants to be provided for a year after her death. For the Christmas festivities, she bought a ‘gallon of honey, apples and pears bought against Christmas’. Players who performed before the Countess on New Years’ Eve and New Years’ day were paid 13s 4d. Payments for the King and Queen’s New Year gifts are listed as well as a gift to her son of two buckles, two pendants, six studs, six oiletts, six aglets (a metal tube wrapped around a shoelace) and gold and enamel garters.
Katherine, on her estates far away from London, would almost certainly have had an opinion on the goings-on at court but that opinion of course was never recorded. Staunchly catholic as she had been brought up, she would likely have received news of her nephew’s intentions to divorce Catherine with some dismay; she would have known and met Catherine of Aragon on more than one occasion. Thankfully she did not live long enough to witness the arrest and execution of her son. As the King removed the threat of any remaining Yorkists, you cannot help but wonder whether his deep admiration and regard for Katherine would have been enough to save her had she still been living, or whether she too would eventually have fallen under his suspicion. But as it was, she did not even live long enough to see Anne Boleyn finally usurp her rival to become Henry’s second wife, as on 15th November 1527, at 3pm in the afternoon, she died at her home in Tiverton. She was forty-eight years old. Her body was embalmed, cered, leaded and covered with a pall of black velvet, with a cross of white satin. Upon that was placed another pall of cloth of gold with a white cross of silver tissue garnished with six escutcheons of her arms. Katherine’s body was attended day and night until Monday 21st December, when mourners wearing black hoods and gowns and carrying banners depicting the saints, escorted her body to Tiverton parish church under a canopy of black velvet. The coffin was placed under a richly decorated canopy, which was guarded all night by attendants. The mourning party then returned to Tiverton Castle for a meal.
At 7am the next morning, the mourners returned to the church where a requiem mass was sung by the Abbot of Montacute, who was supported by choristers from the nearby city of Exeter. In honour of his aunt, the King sent one of his chaplains to deliver the sermon. Her Chief mourner was Lady Carew, who was assisted by Sir Piers Edgecombe. After the service, her body was buried in a vault in the Courtenay chapel on the north side of the church (probably near the site of the present vestry). Her funeral was attended by five hundred mourners including the Mayor of Exeter and City Alderman and was a testament to her popularity. After her death, eight thousand poor people were paid two pence each on the condition they prayed for her soul. In her memory, her son Henry had a tomb erected, of which there is no longer any trace; it was very likely a casualty of the Civil War.
Katherine was still living when Thomas More was writing his History of King Richard III between 1513 and 1518, and his description of her is a perfect summing up of her life. He tells us Katherine was ‘long time tossed in either fortune, sometimes in wealth, oft in adversity, at the last – if this be the last, for yet she liveth – is by the benignity of her nephew King Henry the Eighth in very prosperous estate and worthy her birth and virtue’. She did not live long enough to see the outcome of her nephew’s ‘great matter’ that brought about not only his divorce but also radical changes to the religion that Katherine would have held so dearly. And she managed to live out her final years in peace and security and also, one hopes, she managed to find happiness. After all the adversity she experienced in her early life, this Princess of York may not have ended up as Queen of Spain as was originally intended for her by her father, but she managed to obtain for herself her own little kingdom where she could reign as Duchess of Devon.

15 Questions, 15 Mutuals
Tagged by @winterandwords (thank you :D)
Were you named after anyone? My previous middle name before I transed my gender was given to me to honour my mom's mom who died when she was a kiddo. Currently, I am named after a character from my fave show (Orphan Black) and I stole my dad's middle name because I did not have an idea for a new middle name and I figured I would have an easier time getting surgeries and shit if I fully committed to a masc name even tho I'm NB. With my surgeries all taken care of, I really wanna change my middle name to Rose after Rose Tyler lol
When was the last time you cried? I cried from pain pretty recently when my fucking arthritis made my eyes hurt very badly as happens sometimes lmao. Not entirely sure when the last time I cried from emotion was tho? I have memory problems so it could have been as recent as like January and I would have no clue
Do you have kids? Gods no. I really do not wanna be a parent, like at all. I fucking DESPERATELY want to be an aunt/uncle tho but none of my sibs want kids so I am hoping my best friend hasn't changed their mind about wanting to adopt some day lmao pls I wanna be aunty Felix
Do you use sarcasm a lot? My family is VERY snarky, I come by my sass honestly. I am also very sincere tho, most of the time I'm being genuine but I can and will throw in some sarcasm if I think it will be funny (for everyone, not just me lol what is the point of snark if you're not making everyone laugh???)
What's the first thing you notice about people? Personality, I think?? Idk I'm semi-face-blind and I will NOT remember names until it's said to me a few times, but personality shines through
What's your eye colour? Blue da ba dee da ba di
Scary movies or happy endings? Depends on my mood lmao
Any special talents? Uhhhhh do the million cursed facts that I have stored in my head to share at the drop of a hat count?
Where were you born? Canadian prairies. I have continued to live in this same fucking province my whole life and I would honestly like to leave. Granted, the place I wanna move to is in the yeehaw province, but at least it will be a city! And also it's where my siblings are!
What are your hobbies? Writing is obvious lol, but also drawing, occasional doll customization, cosplay (also occasional), reading, video game, learning whatever seems interesting to me at any given moment, TTRPGs (if I could just fuckinggggg GET A GROUP TOGETHER), fanfic, idk probably other stuff too idk I have memy probs ok
Have you any pets? A ball python named Lemony Snakit who I love and adore. She is deeply, deeply stupid and a huge coward and if I loved her any more than I already do I would literally explode from it
What sports do you play/have played? Not really a sports person tbh. I used to be real good swimmer before my body went "fuck you" and I became disabled and I was gonna try out speedswimming lmao. I'm getting back into swimming and I still love it, even if I am shit at it now
How tall are you? 5'9"
Favourite subject in school? I was homeschooled so stuff wasn't exactly separated into subjects or whatever, but I did have the most fun doing art stuff
Dream job? I wanna be a piercer, but that feels like an unreachable dream from where I'm currently standing. If I can make a living (or at least contribute enough to my household to not feel like a leech even tho I know that's just the internalized ableism speaking) off of writing then I'll be happy with that.
Tagging: Open tag! I do wanna read your answers tho so do tag me up top if you do this! I straight up do not have 15 mutuals I think! XD

Charles Spurgeon's "Morning & Evening" Devotional for September 25
Morning
“Take up the cross.”
Mark 10:17-31
Mark 10:17
An inquiry which had been put to him before, but this time it came from one who thought that he had already done all that would entitle him to eternal bliss. The question was not “What is the way of salvation?” but, “How can I merit heaven?”
Mark 10:18
The questioner did not know that Jesus was God, and therefore he ought not to have called him good.
Mark 10:19
If a man would win heaven by works he must keep these commands and more.
Mark 10:20 , Mark 10:21
If he loved God supremely, as the law required, here was a test for him. We are not all called to relinquish our property; but if Jesus bade us do so, and we refused, it would prove that we loved the world better than God, and therefore were very far from keeping the commandments.
Mark 10:22
He could not stand the test. He thought that he loved God best, but soon discovered that he did not.
Mark 10:24
And the disciples were astonished at his words.
For the Rabbis gave the rick all the advantage, and thought the salvation of the poor almost hopeless.
Mark 10:24
Trusting in riches is the great evil rather than the having of them, though the two things of ten go together.
Mark 10:25-28
But it was a poor little all an old ship and a few worn out nets. Peter’s usual rashness led him to mention the sacrifice he and his friends had made; in after years he was more modest.
Mark 10:29 , Mark 10:30
Even here the Lord Jesus is to us a hundredfold more than houses or relatives could be, and when he is near we rejoice to suffer for his sake.
Ye glittering toys of earth, adieu,
A nobler choice be mine;
A real prize attracts my view,
A treasure all divine.
Jesus to multitudes unknown,
Oh, name divinely sweet!
Jesus, in thee, in thee alone,
Wealth, honour, pleasure, meet.
Should both the Indies at my call,
Their boasted stores resign,
With joy I would renounce them all,
For leave to call thee mine.
Should earth’s vain treasures all depart,
Of this dear gift possess’d,
I’d clasp it to my joyful heart,
And be for ever bless’d.
Evening
“Why stand ye here all the day idle?”
Matthew 20:1-16
Matthew 20:1 , Matthew 20:2
Each man is called upon to work for the Lord, and in doing so he will find an abundant reward. The penny promised was sufficient maintenance for the day, and was regarded as a fair wage. No man shall ever have cause to complain that he served God for nought. Those are happiest who enter his service early in the morning.
Matthew 20:3 , Matthew 20:4
Till we serve God we are idlers. However busy we may be we do nothing till we live for God.
Matthew 20:5
The half of the day was gone, yea, three-fourths of it, and yet this patient householder engaged the labourers. If half our life, or even three-fourths, be gone, the Lord will still receive us, for his hirings are not after the manner of men.
Matthew 20:7
This showed that the hiring of labourers in this case was not an act of necessity but of bounty, or surely the householder would not have hired men just as the sun was setting. In the Lord’s vineyard grace alone chooses, calls, hires, and pays the workers.
Matthew 20:9
However late in life a man may be converted he shall enjoy the same privileges and promises as others. Free grace gives freely and does not upbraid.
Matthew 20:12
This ungenerous spirit will creep in even among the servants of God, but it deserves to be cast out with detestation. We ought to rejoice in the richness of divine love to aged converts. Envy of another’s spiritual privileges is most unseemly in a child of God.
Matthew 20:13-15
The sovereignty of God is vindicated as much in the enjoyments and privileges of saints as in their election to eternal life. In making all his people equally dear to his heart, equally safe in Christ, and equal in justification and adoption, the Lord as much displays his undoubted right to do as he wills with his own, as when he chooses a certain number of sinners, and allows others to continue in their sins.
Matthew 20:16
Those who start in religion and promise great things frequently disappoint us, while others of whom we despaired bring forth good fruit. Many are called by the Gospel, but few are really elect of God, and so obey the call from the heart; and out of these only a remnant become eminent for grace. Choice men are rare even among the chosen.
While our days on earth are lengthen’d,
May we give them, Lord, to thee;
Cheer’d by hope, and daily strengthen’d,
May we run, nor weary be;
Till thy glory,
Without clouds in heaven we see.

Modern-Day Slave
Tumblr media
I can imagine this may be how the black man felt during the transatlantic slave trade. Winded, in the most extreme psychological conditions. Sweat slathering his melanated skin, those beads of salt and water oozing nervousness and fear. He’s scared. His voice is trapped in the echoes of the hollow walls of his body. He’s hungry; empty. A mind that holds promises and hopes of being free but instead, yoked to endure the metallic cold of chains at his feet and blood-stopping ties of rope at his wrists.
I wonder if that's exactly how my very forefathers who weathered these conditions, felt. I wonder, if that’s how my father feels.
Growing up, I only observed my father to be emotionally absent. Physically present, but emotionally absent. I wondered if he ever had thoughts— he seldom had much to say, almost as if he were a slave, still chained.
I wondered if he felt like a vessel, carried by the waves of the past to be unfortunately borne into this cold world.
I wished, growing up, that he would express himself so I may peer into the depths of who he was.
But last month, he allowed me to see what was underneath— just a peep. Our family has been going through extreme financial strains, and he was currently the only breadwinner and employed person of a household of 4. As a faith-filled man, I, also faith-filled, went on a drive with him. He was about to drop me off at my friend’s house, and would continue en route to church.
“I feel led to encourage you that you’re equipped to do this journey as a man, you know,” I started. It took me a while to express, as expression isn’t a regular occurrence in my family. Perhaps the family really does hinge on the weight and struggles of the man.
His eyes stuck to the road but a shadow slightly passed over his face, his eyes slightly widening, then contracting.
“You were strategically placed in our family by God because you were chosen as the best leader for us. God knew all this would happen in the duration of our lives, and still chose you,” I attempted to encourage.
He started nodding awkwardly. “Thank you,” he uttered a bit animatedly, in a similar way which he uses to feign a social mask when he’s at church.
I paused, assessing his mask and the ever slimming frame of his face. He’s lost a lot of weight over the past 3 years— not necessarily the mental weight of being a man, though.
“In the times where you may feel incompetent and as if you don’t have the ability to do it, know that you’re doing a great job, and that God is proud of how you’ve been doing and how open-minded you’ve been approaching the days.”
The mask broke. He released the weight of his forefathers with a burden-bearing sigh that escaped from his lips.
I physically jolted at the unfeigned nature of his response.
“I know I have the ability according to God,” he started. “But sometimes I really feel I can’t do it.”
I stared at him in disbelief. I’ve never heard my father this vulnerable. Everything was always ‘okay.’
“Sometimes I feel to just get radical and leave my job and just hope in God, but I have to think rationally,” he expressed, still looking onward. The passion in his tone grew richer with pent-up frustration.
“Sometimes… it’s really hard.”
I imagine in his head, he might’ve added, “..as a man.”
We drove in silence for what appeared to be years, but were merely seconds.
I was honoured he felt comfortable enough to finally open up, but I witnessed the weight of, maybe, why they don’t in the first place.
How can I, as a child, help this man to walk free?
In that moment, I didn’t have the answer. I wasn’t able to awkwardly hug him while he was driving (not only because he was driving but as I said before, expression is rare in our family). I wasn’t able to tell him everything will be okay. I wasn’t able to whisk a magic wand and declare all things in his life as perfectly fine.
But it occurred to me how cycles are perpetuated through our very history. My father, a black man, still somewhat seemed to me, a modern-day slave. I hope one day that I may be able to support him and the other men I love and appreciate, some way, somehow to be ushered into expressions of the unchained.

I had a vision of 2 couples.
The first was Bey and Jay-Z. They were slow dancing (one of my favourite things to do 😍). It was sooooooo beautiful. I feel so privileged to be able to see such a romantic moment between these two not just lovers, but best friends.
I also saw a Black man hugging a white or could be Spanish woman from behind. I saw them on a boat/yacht 🛥️ and they were so in love. This man’s name is OMARI.
What was so interesting about both these couples was that the men were clothed in WHITE.
God already showed us Jay-Z in white but to see it again is confirmation.
Here is the scripture I was given. I believe this is the same one as last time but I can’t remember exactly 😅
Tumblr media
Babes I don’t have to tell you how beautiful this message is. To be found worthy of God’s love and blessing is profound. That is something to not take lightly. Please know they are WORTHY of this LOVE that God has given them through these women.
To be included in the Book of Life is an honour. God has found your heart and soul to be pure… you are purified before God and your sins are washed away. You deserve to be happy 😊
Here is some more reference info about this particular scripture:
These men have been SAVED.
I know God told us about this for Jay before so I’m not sure why I’m seeing it again but I love the repeating confirmations and I love to see God change the hearts of our men.
The Devil loves to attack our men as heads of the household, as leaders and when you cut off the head, the body follows. Meaning, everything else in the body (body of Christ) will fail… our marriages, our families, our systems as a society, literally EVERYTHING as men are predominantly the decision makers.
Do you see then, why they become victims of temptation the most? 👀 WORSE when you have the witches and warlocks throwing dark magic at them to increase the likelihood that they will stumble and fall, we can clearly see the Devil’s plan is to spiritually decapitate our men.
God had revealed to me that there are more Christian women than men and this is why he has me speaking to so many of his sons because he wants them to know he’s calling them home 🏡 He wants to give them success, glory, honour and happiness. He also wants to give us Christian women HOPE 😂 because dating today seems super complicated when you can simply swipe left or right (I can’t remember which is the correct direction I never had Tinder) and BAM 💥 you’re onto the next.
This is good news and even greater is in store.
Yyaaaayyyyyyyy. I love to see it.
PS. Just as Satan will use a Temptress (woman) to lure a man away from his godliness, God will sometimes send a good women to help lead him home to JESUS. Therefore ladies, let us not stop being FAITHFUL to God and to ourselves because I promise you that is what will help to bring some men back to God and back to YOU 🤍

COURT INTRIGUE CHAPTER ONE
Tumblr media
Notice: I'm sorry that its taken so long for me to write anything of Charles and Isabelle's romance here but here it is the newly updated version of the story again I'm sorry it's been so late.
Pair: Charles Brandon Duke of Suffolk × Lady Isabelle Harrington
Warning: Slight mention of Kissing and fluff
Title: Court Intrigue
Chapter One - 1533 Westminster Palace
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Lady Isabelle Harrington was the most beautiful young woman in the entire court, Henry had requested she come to Court at his own request so she may get to know the court, and now it works.
Shortly after her arrival one such courtier caught Isabelle's eye The Kings best friend and former brother in law of his majesty Charles Brandon His Grace the Duke of Suffolk.
" Your Grace! May I present you to my cousin .... Lady Isabelle Harrington daughter of the Earl of Harrington"! His majesty spoke to Charles smiled accordingly at the beauty before him and took her hand kissing it " My Lady...... it's an honour to meet you at last"! Isabelle smiled at the young dashing Duke " I Thankyou Your Grace that's really very kind of you"! Isabelle repiled with a giggle, her cheeks glowed as she stood there a little longer speaking with the Duke. " How are you finding Court my lady"? His Grace asked her with a wide smile, " I like it very well your Grace indeed there is nothing that has intrigued me"!, Charles felt his heart beating rapidly by just standing here talking to her.
" indeed? Have you explored the Knot garden? It's quite something"! Laughed His Grace. Isabelle smiled at him " n...no I cannot say that I have your Grace although I plan too"!
Charles found her absolutely beautiful, charming and gracious. " My god if I don't get her by this evening I'm a fool"! He thought to himself, " Tell me my Lady do you ride"? Charles asked her smiling, (it seems hes nothing but smile at her) " Yes your Grace I can ride but I must confess that I have a passion for archery too you see my father The Earl his majesties Cousin wanted ot so wished for me to learn"! Isabelle replied kindly sipping her wine. " Are you indeed? You do surprise me! A lady who shoots . ... well you don't hear that often here"! Charles exclaims.
" A dance"! Shouts the King, from the top table.
" My Lady! May I have the pleasure of this dance"? Asked Charles, Isabelle accompanied the Duke onto the floor where it was there that she had her first glimpse of the Lady Anne Bolyen staring at her with daggers, drawn in her eyes, the Duke knew of the boleyn family were capable of and so made his mission to protect the innocent lady Isabelle.
" I cannot your Grace... I'm afraid I'm abit rusty"! Isabelle tried protesting. " nonsense my Lady you'll do just fine your capable hands of a Duke what could possibly go wrong"? Charles teased.
Tumblr media
" Your Grace! Are you purposely trying to put me off my dancing"? Isabelle asked teasingly. " Of course not dear Lady... I was just pulling your arm"! Responded the Duke winking at her. The King watched his friend and his Cousin making merry together to him she looked quite settled and content in Charles's company in fact he doubted she would have anyone else. His majesty watched on with delight at the scene before him his best friend and his cousin what a moment that'll be for the Court he awaited Charles's company. The music ended and Isabelle and the Duke walked happily back to their seats together. By this time The King had been talking to Thomas boleyn master of his household with no idea of what he was planning. " Charles my friend"! Chanted the King clapping him on the back. " How do you find our newest member of the Court"? The King asked him. " You know I've seen how you are with her! I want you to keep an eye on her while she is here make sure that she comes to no harm I give you permission to have her at your home in Suffolk and if you see fit have guards posted at the apartments here I'm placing her under protection Charles"! The King told him.
" I find her ... very beautiful! And charming too, Your majesty you never would given her to be a Earl's daughter"! Charles smiled. His majesty repiled laughing " No your Grace you would not"! Henry was very close to Isabelle if anything happened to her under his roof God help those who did try to harm her. " Did she tell you she could shoot? Oooh Charles she will best you at it"! Laughed his majesty.
" If there is anything she needs or wishes to have ... I'll be the one who covers the cost of that do you understand"? Henry asked smiling. Unbeknown to his majesty Isabelle's time at Court was to be shortened. Now The princess Dowager had been rejected and dismissed from her own position as Queen just as the Lady Anne wished for rather wanted the King had made clear his intention to marry Anne now that Katherine was declared no more the Queen of England. Yes Isabelle had heard it but like everyone within the court she bit her tongue. She was also the apple of Henry's eye and he planned a days jousting in her honour. " I understand your majesty"! Charles smiled at the King.
It was pleasant being here at Court, it truly was Isabelle missed her companions the most ...... The Seymours. Edward Seymour the eldest was curtious toward the lady Isabelle he admired her Sir John Seymour even thought of her as a daughter in law for himself as she was so very close to Edward alas Edward married someone else Lady Anne Seymour a charming woman who was a maid to her majesty the princess Dowager.
" If you'll excuse me your majesty I'm rather tired ... I'm afraid Jim going to have to retire"! Isabelle replied kindly to the King. " of course my Lady! Let me get someone to escort you ..... Charles will you"? The Duke nodded and then took the Lady Isabelle's arm into his and escorted out of the hall toward her apartment.
" My Lady! Are you quite well"? Charles asks concerned. Isabelle had suddenly become pale, " y....yes Thankyou your Grace I'm quite well"! George boleyn was watching the Duke and the young lady from just off the corridor they were walking though to go to Lady Isabelle's apartment.
" No my lady I do not believe you are! Come let's get you back to your apartment"! Charles hurried with the Lady Isabelle though the corridors of Westminster Palace to get her somewhere safe.
Two guards had already been posted at the apartment door " Your Grace"! One of the guards greeted him.
" See to it that Lady Harrington is protected at all times do not let her out of your sight on pain of death you understand"? The Duke ordered.
" Yes your Grace"! The guards answered.
His Grace being ever the caring one stayed with her, George still awaiting his chance to get to her didn't see His Grace The Duke of Suffolk leave. His sister wanted her gone and so George was tasked with getting rid of her.
Lady Isabelle had no maid to help undress and it wasn't hard to get out of the dress.
Tumblr media
She disappeared behind the screen and dressed in something more comfortable and fitting of her station as Lady of the Court. She took the French hood away and the gown and came out in her night dress and robe. " I'm sorry your Grace I mustn't keep you"! Isabelle smiled at him. " Do not you want to go back to the party with the King I'm sure he'll be glad of Company"! Isabelle responded, " Forgive me my lady I have my duty to protect you if anyone should come near you wist I'm gone ..... His majesty would have my head.
" you are not keeping my lady"! Charles chuckled. Isabelle took the chair opposite the one the Duke was standing by. " please do sit your Grace"! Invited Isabelle. " thankyou my lady"! She rolled her eyes at him a gesture made in jest at him saying " my lady"! That was befitting of her station in the royal Court as it was the future Queens for now she was known as Lady Anne. " Your Grace! Could I ask you a question? Why do you dislike the boleyn's"? Isabelle asked. " because put quite simply without quite offensive language harmful to your ears .... they are dangerous I do not trust them nor do I agree with the improper marriage the King is making but I must keep my opinions to myself I'd only keep my head"!
" Why? What do you think of them"? Charles asked her back, " I do not know your Grace i believe the King must do what he will with or without his advisors help, I know you yourself are a great friend of my cousin and for that I I Thankyou but I truth ..... can I support my cousin the King yes I can .... on the other hand I cannot support her but I will try to wholeheartedly"! Isabelle answered.
" Are you wanted at home? Have you got anyone special at home waiting you? Please forgive me I shouldn't have asked that... I think the wines gone to my head"! Isabellr laughed.
" Oh if only you knew you innocent, pure, radiant little thing"! Thought Charles to himself as he sat there admiring her beauty. For the first time he saw her vision that even found carnal. He imagined her in his bed at Suffolk place after having a night of passionate love. God knew he had not had that since Margaret died of Consumption (known as TB today), shaking his head he willed himself not to think so carnally of her. His lust for this beauty would carry on for as long as she remained here with him .... with the King.
Tumblr media
There was something about this young woman that intrigued him intrigued the whole Court. Yes she was rich .... rich beyond reason rich enough to buy her own house.
" Are you not married My lady"? Charles asked her honestly.
" Heavens no Your Grace! I rather confess that I love the liberty of being my own person .... for want of a better word ... my own boss"! Explained Isabelle smiling slightly.
" I was married but I regret to say that my wife died"! Charles confessed. " Oh my! I'm sorry your Grace I didn't know ... can you forgive me"? Isabelle asked smiling. " I can since you were the one who didnt say it .... it was my fault"!
" I have no doubt that you are in high regard of all the ladies at Court"! Isabelle replied playfully. Charles laughed at that " my Lady! Ooh your hard one to please are you not"?
" I am"! She simply answered lifting her head aloft.
" Do you have rooms here at Court when his majesty wishes you to stay"? Isabelle aaked.
" Yes my Lady I do"! Charles told her.
" Its getting late ... you should be fast asleep by now"! Charles points out.
" but such as it is your Grace I am not alas"! Isabelle replied kindly smiling.
" Nevertheless I should go and leave you alone with your thoughts I hope I may see you on the morrow"! The duke smiled.
His Grace felt sadness in his heart at thought of leaving her alone in her apartment.
" There are guards posted on your door so please do not hesitate to shout them to come to me if you should want me"! Charles offered.
" Oh! You might start calling me Charles"! Charles smiled.
" And you might start calling me Isabelle ONLY when we're in each others company my lord"! Isabelle replied ruefully smiling.
Can Charles keep his hands away from her? Will he be able to resist? Cliffhanger!!!!!!!

MARY: SERIES ONE
When King Henry VIII announces his daughter unable to inherit the crown of England, Princess Mary Tudor and her friends at court rebel and conspire against him.
An imagined six episode psychological drama series, focusing on Princess Mary Tudor and the intrigues, secrets and lies of Henry VIII’s court...
THE KING’S PEARL
Princess Mary Tudor, Princess of Wales and heir to the throne of England, is at her court in the Welsh Marches. Rhys ap Gruffydd kneels in irons before her; he has been arrested for inciting rebellion and is on the way to the Tower of London. Rhys petitions Mary for help in getting his grandfather’s lands and titles restored to him, as they are his by right and not her stewards, who has been gifted them by the king. Rhys says surely Mary knows what it is like to have an inheritance threatened. Mary promises to help him when she returns to court. Rhys thanks his princess, stating that though his wife is related to the king’s mistress, Anne Boleyn will never be Rhys’ queen.
Mary returns to court for Christmas. All along the streets nobles and peasants alike cheer for their princess before she is welcomed lovingly by her parents King Henry VIII and Queen Katherine of Aragon.
There is a grand feast; Mary reunites with her father’s cousin Henry Courtenay and his wife Gertrude, one of Katherine’s ladies. She dances with the courtier Nicholas Carew while her parents watch proudly.
Mary petitions her father to release Rhys from imprisonment in the Tower. The king, delighted to have his pearl back, agrees, but refuses to grant him his grandfather’s lands and titles. The pair decide to go riding together.
On their return, Gertrude escorts Mary to see her mother. She tells Mary her father’s mistress, Anne Boleyn, has just arrived back at court. Katherine introduces Mary to Eustace Chapuys, ambassador to Mary’s cousin Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor. Chapuys promises he will do his best to help her and her mother. Katherine and Chapuys reveal Pope Clement has forbidden the king from marrying Anne, threatening him with excommunication from the church if he does.
After Mass, where the royal family pray together, a freed Rhys seeks out Mary. He thanks her for his release and attempting to get his inheritance back.
Mary goes to her father’s chambers, where Thomas Cromwell introduces himself as King Henry’s new minister. Mary asks where her father is. When Cromwell replies he is with Anne Boleyn, Mary leaves for the sanctuary of her mother’s rooms.
Henry Courtenay arrives from parliament, telling Katherine, Mary and Gertrude that the king has now declared himself the Supreme Head of the Church of England. Gertrude tells them she heard of a nun in Kent who can predict the future. Katherine warns her not to do anything foolish.
On Saint David’s Day, the patron saint of Wales, Mary is given a Welsh leek by the king’s gentlemen pensioners in a grand ceremony. She is watched by a crowd of courtiers and Chapuys, who compliments her. They talk for a while before she leaves.
Exiting, Mary comes across Anne Boleyn. They glare at each other before Anne reluctantly sinks into a curtsey. Mary ignores her.
Mary plays the virginals for her parents. Despite their praise, there is obvious tension between the pair.
At nightfall Mary and her father talk. Mary is confused how he has declared himself the head of a church that doesn’t exist. Henry says she is clever; one day his pearl will understand. After he has left, Mary tells her governess, Margaret Pole, that she doesn’t think she will ever understand.
Katherine worries when Margaret wakes her in the night to inform her Mary is ill. Gertrude brings up the Nun of Kent again, but Maria Willoughby and Jane Seymour shush her. Katherine goes to help Margaret care for Mary. As Mary continues to vomit, Katherine strokes her daughter’s hair, clutching her necklace which she believes contains a piece of the True Cross. She prays her daughter will get better, comforting her with old stories of her and King Henry when they were younger.
In the morning a recovered Mary wakes to six luxurious new dresses, a gift from her father. She immediately puts one on.
At breakfast, the queen is sat at the table alone. The king left them earlier in the morning to go on summer progress with Anne Boleyn, forcing most of the courtiers to go with them, including the Courtenay’s. Katherine smiles and tells Mary they can still have a good time, just the two of them and their households.
Reginald, the son of Margaret, is sent money by the king to study in Padua. Katherine and Margaret are hopeful Reginald will convince King Henry to recant his decision to break from Rome and marry a heretic. Reginald promises he will. Mary hugs her cousin goodbye, wishing him well.
At court, Chapuys watches on with Nicholas Carew and an incensed Gertrude and Henry as Anne Boleyn takes the queen’s role at a feast. While talking, Rhys Gruffydd is publicly re-arrested for encouraging Wales to rebel against the king, and supposedly taking the title of Prince of Wales. The group disbelieve this after what Mary did for him.
Katherine hears from Maria that Rhys has been beheaded, but she is determined to protect her daughter and keeps the news a secret.
Mary and Katherine go hawking, but on their return are sent orders to separate. Katherine promises she will see Mary soon, encouraging her to stay strong. Any bastard born of Anne Boleyn will never rule; Mary is the heir and future queen of England.
 PRINCESS OF WALES
Mary and her tutor Richard Featherstone are having a Latin lesson on Utopia by Sir Thomas More. In the book women are encouraged to fight in battle; Mary tells the priest she would if she could.
Mary is walking in the fields with her ladies, Susan Clarencius and Anne Hussey, and her cousin Margaret Douglas. Her and Margaret’s cousin Frances Brandon has recently married Henry Grey. Mary is betrothed to the French Dauphin, but she has heard no news lately of a marriage... she is surprised to come across her father, riding with Nicholas. He asks how she is and Mary replies she is well, but missing her mother now she has seen him. The king is going to Calais with Anne Boleyn, now the marquess of Pembroke, but promises to see her more often when he returns.
Gertrude sees the Nun of Kent in disguise, switching clothes with her maid. Amazed at her trance, she invites the woman, Elizabeth Barton, to her house.
Mary is having her breakfast served by her friend Henry Jerningham when she is informed by her chamberlain that her father has, with the blessing of the new Archbishop of Canterbury, Thomas Cranmer, married Anne Boleyn. John Hussey asks for a verbal response to the news for the king, but Mary ignores him entirely, continuing to talk with Henry and her ladies. Uncomfortable, he carries on with his orders; Mary is forbidden from writing to her mother and he must take Mary’s jewels. Margaret refuses to give them up to John unless she has a direct order from the king.
Gertrude welcomes Elizabeth warmly, asking about her prophecies. The nun says there may be war now the king has married Anne Boleyn; Gertrude asks her to pray her husband will remain safe. It grieves him that men of noble blood are being dismissed from the privy chamber, with the king ruled by Cromwell who is the son of a blacksmith.
That night, Gertrude tells Henry about the nun’s visit, telling him the king will flee the realm one day. Henry is horrified at her listening to the prophecies, potentially earning the wrath of his cousin when he finds out. He demands she tell the king.
Mary and Margaret Douglas are informed by Margaret that their aunt Mary has died. The pair worry over Frances, but Margaret tells them she has a husband to comfort her now. Mary fears the French accepting Anne Boleyn as queen means her betrothal will be void. The three are interrupted by Mary’s servant Randall Dodd, who delivers a letter passed on by her mother’s servant Anthony. Katherine writes she has “heard such tidings today that I do perceive if it be true, the time is come that Almighty God will prove you; and I am very glad of it, for I trust He doth handle you with a good love [...] But one thing I especially desire you, for the love that you do owe unto God and unto me, to keep your heart with a chaste mind, and your body from all ill and wanton company, not thinking or desiring any husband for Christ’s passion; neither determine yourself to any manner of living till this troublesome time be past.”
Shortly after there is an official command from King Henry to take Mary’s jewels. Her personal arms are stripped from her and her household is to be reduced, with some servants, including Randall Dodd, sent to wait on her new sister Elizabeth, whose christening John Hussey must attend.
King Henry confronts Gertrude, informing her that he knows she has visited the Nun of Kent. She petitions King Henry to forgive her, blaming her womanly foolishness. He does, and orders his cousin to as well. To show his goodwill towards her, Gertrude is bestowed the honour of becoming Princess Elizabeth’s godmother, but an annoyed Gertrude sees it as an insult.
Mary is playing a card game with her ladies and Henry Jerningham when John returns from the christening and tells Mary she is longer a princess. Mary refuses to accept it and writes to her father, believing he was “not privy to it, not doubting but you take me for your lawful daughter, born in true matrimony.”
In response to her letter the Duke of Norfolk comes to dissemble all her household; Mary is to go to Hatfield to serve her sister Elizabeth, the Princess of Wales. Mary says that title belongs to her by right, and no one else.
Mary is only allowed to take one lady in waiting with her and chooses Susan. Her cousin Margaret Douglas is to serve the new queen. Margaret offers to serve Mary at her own expense, but Norfolk refuses. Mary has an emotional goodbye with her staff. Margaret urges her to remember her grandmother had been declared a bastard before becoming queen of England.
On the way to Hatfield, one of the men escorting Mary whispers she must hold firm, for the sake of England.
Arriving, Norfolk asks if she will pay her respects to the Princess of Wales. Mary replies she knows of no other princess in England except herself. The daughter of the marquess of Pembroke has no such title - but if her father acknowledges her as his own, she will call her sister as she calls Henry Fitzroy brother.
As he leaves, Norfolk asks if can take a message to the king. Mary says to tell him his daughter, the Princess of Wales, begs for his blessing. When Norfolk refuses, Mary tells him curtly he might leave it then, and to go away and leave her alone. She retires to her bedchamber to cry.
UNBRIDLED BLOOD
Mary refuses to pay court to Elizabeth unless made to by force. When walking, she is always far in front or far behind the newborn, never at her side. She eats in her own rooms with food Susan steals from the kitchens, avoiding the public table. She has outgrown the ornate dresses her father gave her.
An outraged Gertrude shows Chapuys the letter she has received from the king, telling his subjects that they ought to thank God for giving them a lawful heir. Chapuys reveals he has already sent a Latin declaration for Katherine to sign and pass along to her daughter.
The king arrives to visit his youngest daughter. Mary is desperate to see her father, but is visited by Norfolk and Cromwell. They urge her to renounce her title, but Mary says it is labour wasted to press her; they are deceived if they think bad treatment, rudeness, or even the chance of death would make her change her determination. She asks to see her father and kiss his hand, but is refused. When they leave, she runs to the terrace at the top of the house and kneels in mercy. The king bows and doffs his cap, as do the men with him, before leaving.
The Oath of Supremacy and 1534 Act of Succession are both implemented, making Henry VIII Head of the Church of England, and Elizabeth and any other children of Anne Boleyn his heirs. The Courtenay’s are annoyed as queen Anne flaunts her belly; she is pregnant again.
Mary receives a letter from her mother, which comforts and encourages her, along with the Latin declaration Chapuys spoke of that denies her illegitimacy. She signs it and Susan smuggles it out of Hatfield back to Chapuys.
John Hussey and his wife Anne are returning home now Mary’s household has been dissolved, but before they go John talks with the Courtenay’s and Chapuys about the possibility of the emperor invading in support of his cousin’s rights. Chapuys says he is trying hard to convince his master. Henry says he wishes he had the opportunity to shed blood in the service of Katherine and Mary. John replies he could easily rise the north of England to help Princess Mary, and “the insurrection of the people would be joined immediately by the nobility and the clergy”. Gertrude reminds them of the prophecies of the Nun of Kent; perhaps there will be war over this...
When moving households, Mary refuses to share a litter with Elizabeth and is forcibly put in by guards. Roughly manhandled, she shouts a public protest to some peasants who salute and cheer her as princess. Her new caretaker, Anne Shelton, warns Mary her niece queen Anne has ordered her to box Mary’s ears as a cursed bastard when she uses the title of Princess.
After Gertrude informs him of Mary’s abuse, Nicholas pays the king’s fool to insult queen Anne and princess Elizabeth. The king is furious, banishing the jester from court, but Nicholas shelters him in his own home.
A badly bruised Mary hears of Nicholas’ actions and sends a letter of thanks to him via Susan. Shelton summons Mary to visit her, questioning why she has received a letter from Elizabeth Carew, Nicholas’ wife. Elizabeth urges her to submit to the king for the passion of Christ, otherwise she will be undone. Mary pleads ignorance and throws the letter in the fireplace.
As they watch queen Anne and her uncle Norfolk prepare to visit Elizabeth, Jane Seymour tells the Courtenay’s that the queen has had a miscarriage. They fear how she will treat Mary.
As punishment for the litter incident, Norfolk takes Mary’s remaining jewels. He mocks a brooch from her childhood spelling out the Emperor. Mary is furious, even more so when Anne visits her, urging her to honour her as queen and she will reconcile her to her father. Mary says she knows of no queen of England but her mother - but if her father’s mistress would intercede on her behalf, she would be much obliged. An enraged Anne storms out, swearing to bring down her unbridled Spanish blood.
Shelton tells Mary if she were the king she would kick her out of the house for disobedience, and that the king said she will lose her head for breaking the law and not renouncing her title. Seeing Richard Featherstone preparing to leave in the retinue of queen Anne, a quick witted Mary asks him if she can practise her Latin. The people around them do not understand as she asks if the rumours are true and she is to be killed. Richard is shocked, saying it is not good Latin before leaving with the rest of Anne’s entourage. Returning to London, he immediately informs Chapuys of the danger Mary is in. The ambassador is determined to find a way to see her.
The Nun of Kent is publicly executed, with her head put on a spike on London Bridge. After, the king tells Henry the trust his daughter has in the emperor makes her obstinate, but he fears no one if his vassals stay loyal. He warns his cousin not to trip lest he lose his head.
WORST ENEMY IN THE WORLD
After she was forced into a litter, Mary asks to ride on her horse when moving households. As soon as she is mounted, she races ahead of her sister’s litter, riding across the countryside to the waiting river barge. Exhilarated by the freedom of her ride, she beats the rest of the household there and takes the place of honour. On the riverbank, Chapuys watches on as Mary sails past. They smile at each other, reassured.
Shelton wonders how the ambassador knew they would be there. Suspecting Susan of sending messages in and out of the household, she dismisses Mary’s last lady. Mary is completely alone.
Months have passed; it is now winter. King Henry remains furious at his daughter’s continued defiance, telling his cousin Mary will be an example to show that no one ought to disobey the laws; at the beginning of his reign he was as gentle as a lamb, and by the end he will be worse than a lion. Henry tells his wife.
Gertrude disguises herself to visit Chapuys, saying after the next parliament Mary and Katherine will die. She swears it is as true as the Gospel. Gertrude is adamant they must do something to help save their princess. Chapuys says Katherine spoke to him of Mary marrying Reginald Pole and uniting their claims to the throne. The emperor is busy taking Tunis, but Chapuys believes only a small army sent by Charles V with Reginald amongst the troops would be enough to make people declare for Mary. Gertrude pledges the support of her relatives, but says they need a quicker solution.
Mary is no longer allowed to eat in her room, but she refuses to eat at the main table and submit to a lower rank then her sister Elizabeth, now a toddler at the head of the table. She is slowly starving.
After seeing the king talking with Jane Seymour, Gertrude has an idea. She tries to convince Jane to attract the king’s attentions in the hope of getting better treatment for Mary but a haughty Jane refuses.
Mary is constantly belittled by servants, who say the world will be at peace when they are discharged of the pain and trouble she gives them. She is incensed to hear the French ambassadors are to visit Elizabeth in the hopes of a betrothal. She declares she is the Dauphin’s future wife, not her bastard sister. Shelton orders her to her room, and when Mary refuses she is locked in by force.
The next morning, a weak Mary discovers she has started her period. Disoriented, she calls out for her mother and Margaret. While getting up, she collapses.
Shelton weeps, fearing people will think she has poisoned Mary. She tells a bedridden Mary the king will not see her until she admits to being a bastard. He believes she is his worst enemy in the world. Mary sobs but refuses to give in, saying God has not blinded her to confess her father and mother had lived in adultery and made her a bastard.
Chapuys talks to Cromwell and then the king, trying to convince them to let Katherine tend to her daughter. Henry refuses; if mother and daughter are together, Katherine might “raise a number of men and make war, as boldly as did queen Isabella her mother.” He also refuses to send Margaret Pole, who Chapuys calls Mary’s second mother, as she is a fool of no experience. If Mary had been in her care she would have died, but Shelton is an expert in female complaints.
After queen Anne shows no sympathy for a grievously ill Mary, Jane agrees to help Gertrude.
Mary is examined by a doctor. She fainted due to her heavy period, in addition to not eating or drinking enough. She is suffering from sorrow. The doctor orders her to eat more and recommends being moved closer to her mother to improve her spirits. Mary knows it will never happen.
Shelton reveals Sir Thomas More and several monks have been executed for refusing to take the Oath of Supremacy, and Richard Featherstone is now imprisoned in the Tower. She tells Mary to take warning by their fate. Servants openly desire her death, especially now the queen is pregnant again with what is sure to be a son. Mary notices her old servant Randall Dodd does not join in their bullying. Cornering him in private, she convinces him to deliver a letter to Chapuys.
Gertrude leads Jane to Nicholas, and the pair coach her on how to act. Nicholas tell Jane she must by no means comply with any of the King's wishes, except marriage.
Mary watches out of the window as armed guards are stationed at the gates. Randall walks through them, carrying a letter for Charles V urging the emperor to invade. Mary tells him “In the name of the Queen, my mother, and mine, for the honour of God take this matter in hand, and provide a remedy for the affairs of this country; begging you in the meantime not to forget to solicit permission for me to live with my mother.”
MONSTER IN NATURE
Chapuys visits a mortally ill Katherine. She worries over her daughter, but he promises to look after her. After Maria Willoughby arrives she is no longer alone and begs Chapuys to go and protect Mary.
Mary is summoned to see Shelton, who informs her of her mother’s death. She is devastated. Shelton implores her to submit, saying she will not receive the necklace her mother left her in her will. Mary replies she would rather die a hundred times than change her opinion, before going to her bedchamber to cry.
Randall gives a letter to Mary from Chapuys, making plans for her to escape England. The emperor cannot spare any troops, but there is a ship waiting 40 miles away if she can get there. Chapuys says he will write with a plan soon but Mary is convinced she must go at once lest she be killed.
Chapuys holds a dinner party with the Courtenay’s, Nicholas and Jane. Nicholas has been inducted into the Order of the Garter over George Boleyn. They discuss queen Anne having a quarrel with Cromwell, and rumours of the king wanting a new wife. Gertrude advises Jane to tell the king his subjects hate his marriage, and no one considers it legitimate. A messenger arrives for Jane from the king, with a letter and a purse of money. All watch on with approval as Jane sends it back, saying she can only accept a gift of money from the king when he makes her an honourable match. Chapuys hopes the progress of their scheme will mean Mary will not need to flee - he tells them “she is so eager to escape from all her troubles and dangers that if he were to advise her to cross the Channel in a sieve she would do it.”
In turmoil, a grieving Mary takes matters into her own hands. While playing with Elizabeth she tests the strength of the garden gate, noting where Shelton’s window looks out. Returning to the house, she tells the doctor she can’t sleep. He says he will get her some pills to help.
On the same day Katherine is buried, queen Anne has a miscarriage. The king tells Henry he has been seduced by witchcraft into his marriage, which is null because God has not granted him a son.
Mary laces some wine with the sleeping pills, and prepares to give it to Shelton and her maids. Only a letter from Nicholas delivered by Randall dissuades her. He begs her to “be of good cheer, for shortly the opposite party will put water in their wine as the King is already sick and tired of the concubine as could be.” Mary replies telling them to do everything possible to remove the mistress.
At queen Anne’s trial for adultery against the king, Henry votes guilty. He, Gertrude, Nicholas and Chapuys watch on as Anne is beheaded and Jane marries the king.
Mary is astonished to receive a visit from her old lady, Anne Hussey. They have returned from the north as John has to attend parliament, where Elizabeth will be declared a bastard now queen Anne is dead. While talking to Mary, Anne calls for a drink for the princess, and is arrested. Mary is in shock and writes a letter to her father, hoping to reconcile with him now her enemy is dead.
After being presented as the new queen, Jane tells the Courtenay’s, Nicholas and Chapuys that Henry has received his daughter’s letter but is not happy. She promises to help Mary, and Chapuys christens her the peacemaker.
Margaret Pole returns to court, attracting hundreds of people on the way who think Mary is with her. She carries a scathing letter from her son Reginald. King Henry is outraged that Reginald accuses him of tearing true defenders of religion to pieces, as well as likening him to the tyrant emperor Nero.
A group of nobles headed by Norfolk arrive to harass Mary into signing the acts, calling her a monster of nature and a traitress for continuing to defy her father. When she argues with them they say if she were their daughter they would beat her to death, or bash her head against a wall until it was a soft as a boiled apple.
Mary is locked in her bedchamber and not allowed to talk to anyone. She is to be watched over day and night. Hours pass and she refuses to back down. The guards are changed - this time Randall is on duty. Mary creates a distraction for the other guard and passes a scribbled letter to Randall for Chapuys.
Jane pleads for mercy, but the king calls her a fool for interfering; she ought to think of the children they will have together and not any others. King Henry swears that not only will Mary suffer, but also his cousin, Cromwell and others.
Anne is interrogated in the Tower for calling Mary a princess, but she insists it was merely due to habit. Henry is kicked off the privy council, and Nicholas is questioned about his relationship with Mary. Legal papers are drawn up to put Mary on trial for treason.
Randall returns, detailing what has happened to her friends and giving Mary a letter from Chapuys. Chapuys points out she now has a better opportunity of becoming heir to the crown than when Anne Boleyn was alive. He urges her to save her life for the tranquillity of the kingdom, and comforts her with the knowledge that God looks more into the intentions than into the deeds of men.”
Fearing for her and her friends lives, a broken Mary finally submits to her father and signs the document before her without reading the contents.
GRACE
Mary lies awake in the night crying before being disturbed by a knock at the door - Susan has returned. She is to resume her duties as the king is riding to see Mary.
A nervous Mary sees her father for the first time in years, along with his new wife Jane who gives her a diamond. King Henry says he regrets their long separation, giving Mary some money and the necklace Katherine left her daughter in her will. He promises she can soon return to court.
Freed from the Tower, Anne returns north with her husband John, where the people mutter about the king being ruled by evil ministers who have closed the monasteries and forced Princess Mary to sign acts labelling her a bastard.
Mary returns to court, where the king pats Jane’s stomach, insinuating she is with child. He tells Mary some of his councillors were desirous of her death and she swoons in fear, but her father assures her all will be well now. She sits beside the queen at the high table while Gertrude serves them.
Cromwell welcomes Mary back, congratulating her on finally signing the acts and calling her “the most obstinate woman that ever was.”
Mary reunites with Henry Jerningham and Margaret Pole, along with Margaret’s sons Henry and Geoffrey. She tells Mary Reginald, who has just been made a cardinal, will not stop supporting her cause abroad.
Mary thanks Nicholas, Henry, Gertrude and Chapuys for their help. She begs the ambassador to get her absolution from the Pope for signing the acts under duress. Seeing them talk, King Henry tells his daughter he hates dissemblers. There is talk of an uprising in the north where people believe her able to inherit after him. He forces her to write to the pope, the emperor and his family confirming she sees herself as a bastard.
In Lincolnshire rebels threaten to burn the Hussey’s house down. Anne promises her husband will join them. John calls her a fool to make such a promise; Anne argues he wanted to rise the north for princess Mary and the true faith. John says that was with the emperor’s help and before she submitted to the king. He writes to him protesting his innocence in the affair.
At court the king is enraged at the rebels, tearing up John’s letter. Jane goes on her knees and petitions him to reopen the monasteries, but is rebuffed by the king who tells her not to meddle. He talks about the rebellion with Mary, making sure to mention her old chamberlain’s letter, and the vast expense of the army he is sending to suppress it.
Henry is sent north at the head of the army to prove his loyalty. Gertrude worries over his safety, remembering the Nun of Kent’s prophecies of war. Courtier Edward Neville asks Gertrude if she is merry and she replies "How can I be merry? My lord is gone to battle." He tells her not to fear this one or the second battle, but beware the third. She warns him prophecies will turn him to displeasure one day.
Anne gives the rebels food, wine and money, encouraging them further. As the army approaches and rebels still camp outside his house, John flees.
A terrified Jane tells Mary she was mistaken about being with child. Mary reassures her, thanking her new mother for all her help. When he hears, King Henry says he will clearly have no children by his wife, and that if he will have no son to succeed him he hopes for a grandson.
Henry meets up with John. He pleads innocence, and joins him to deliver an invitation to the rebel leader, lawyer Robert Aske. At the king’s request he is to attend court for Christmas.
At court Aske and Mary are kept separated. The king questions Aske on the rebels demands. They want the monasteries to reopen, and see no reason why Mary could not be queen. People think the king’s divorce made by Thomas Cranmer was not legal and “Lady Mary ought to be favoured for her great virtues [...] for she is marvellously beloved by the whole people.” He worries with her being ruled illegitimate the emperor has a reason to wage war against the realm. The king tells him he has nothing to fear from the emperor.
Mary asks Chapuys to distract the king while Gertrude takes her to Robert Aske. Chapuys talks with King Henry about Prince Luis of Portugal being a possible husband for Mary now the French Dauphin has died.
In secret, Aske tells Mary she will always be the Princess of Wales and heir, no matter what the king decrees, as the law deems her legitimate. The people of England look to her for hope in such faithless times.
She keeps his words close to her heart as Aske and John Hussey are beheaded for treason. The king says their bodies are to be sent back north as a message for all those against his rule. Mary approves, and King Henry delights at his pearl finally understanding his authority.
A traumatised Mary stares at the bloodstained scaffold, silently vowing to avenge the deaths of her loving supporters.

—----------------------------------------------—
Miya Osamu
You and your boyfriend were cuddling against one another in your bed it was a routine you both loved doing on your free days. Basking in each others warmth while talking about your days and what the future holds.
Osamu's laugh rang through the bedroom walls while he played with your hair. "And then she literally drops her cake right onto my laptop and it freakin' broke it!!" "Ma god angel was tha cake that hard?" "You have no idea how much I wanted to punch her for one, baking a cake that was literally so hard if I ate a rock it would've been softer and two for breaking my freaking laptop !".
Osamu chuckled once again as he kissed your forehead and you frowning because of how can he find the awful events that you've been dealing with all week funny at all.
"There there angel A don't want ya getting forehead wrinkles from frowning too hard ya know." He chuckled while poking your ticklish sides earning a slap on his hand. "Jeez I think I'd literally cry if I ever got them." Osamu smiled against your hairline as the conversation came to a halt maybe this was the right moment to ask what he's been thinking about all week he thought.
"Angel can a ask you something?". You tilted your head to look at him while he gazed right back at you while popping an eyebrow at his question "is your question going to be 'can ya help me get off?' ? Because your answer is no."
Osamu chuckled and rolled his eyes at your so bold statement just a while back in your relationship you'd be blushing profusely if he made any type of suggestive comment wondering what happened to his innocent S/o.
"Nah angel I'm serious here". Noticing his serious features you decided to nod and see what he has to say.
Gulping he decided to ask away. "What made ya believe in love again? Ya know after yer ex had cheated on ya?" Your eyes widened at his sudden question earning a worried panicked look from him. Looking around the room to avoid this awkward situation he put himself into "Y-ya dont hafta answer ya know A- a Just couldn't-" "you."
His eyes met yours with a dumb founded expression you deciding to continue on since there was no backing down now. I mean you always knew that one day he'd ask you about it but it still made you sink a bit when he did.
"I mean sure of course there would be times where you smelled different or something and I'd panic or times you got so many notifications on your phone and i'd let my past get the better of me and snoop but after 3 months of dating, you told me something that just healed everything I've been through."
You smiled at him and he looked back at you with a curious look to what his so called healing words were.
"You told me you loved me. And I know that sounds so stupid" you laughed heavily releasing the lump in your throat.
"But the way you looked at me was like an unspoken promise to never hurt me like he did." You shrugged smiling at him and burying your face against his chest.
Osamu was dumbfounded by your response sure he knew he might be the reason but confirmation doesnt make the love sick smug grin on his face and the warmth rising to it any less effective.
He held you as tight as he can. "God angel ya really know how to get a man flustered say how bout ya help me get o-" "no" "Angelllllllllllll" you scoffed at him and hit his chest. "Shut up and sleep Miya" to which he laughed at the sound of his last name even when you were upset and you addressed him by his last name he can't help but smile at how beautiful it sounded coming from you. "Yer breaking ma heart here angel don't make me take yer cuddling rights." Chuckling as your grip around him tightened and drifting off to sleep together while he played with your hair.
Making mental note to always be the one who heals you forever because you were the one who healed him too and God did he love you so much for everything that you did.
Iwaizumi Hajime
Today was your regular late night drive throughs and talks about your life while stuffing your face with fast food with your beefy athletic trainer boyfriend.
As you brought the sandwich to your mouth and took a big bite you moaned at the heavenly taste earning a chuckle from the green eyed man next to you.
"Can't believe I'm not the one who's making you moan that way but a sandwich."
You rolled your eyes at his snarky comment while stuffing your mouth with the sandwich "shushth up iwa-chanth".
"Jeez who knew romance was dead L/n and I told you stop calling me that and don't speak with a mouth full last time you did you had to clean my car seat" he laughed earning an intensive glare his way from you.
You swallowed and thought about a good come back for a second. "I wasn't the one who threw up in my cup holder was I? Iwaaa-chaaaannnn" making sure to drag the annoying nickname out just to tease him.
He rolled his eyes at you "you're such a brat, doll and you know how I can't deal with spicy food who's fault was that?" You laughed "oh shut up, you loved me for the after care you got Hajime." "I'll think about it."
Smacking his chest lightly as you both laughed into the night.
Should I ask ? I really don't want to pry. I mean it's been weeks since they've told me about it and I dont want them to feel alone maybe I shouldn't ask them iwaizumi thought to himself while staring at the sandwich in his hands. But before he could decide he was snapped back to reality by your voice "not hungry Haji?" Before he could settle on a decision the words have already come out of his mouth.
"Doll can I ask you something?" You raised an eye brow at his sudden serious tone and you nodded "of course, anything haji-baby" feeling the atmosphere turn tense you decided to pull out the favourite nick name card and he smiled nervously.
"Do you miss her?" You felt your heart sink. Your friend had gotten into an accident talking with her boyfriend while driving resulting them in a critical state which lead to them passing away. You smiled weakly.
"Yes I do.." he stared at you worried that he might've crossed a line or broke a boundary but before he could overthink you opened your mouth to speak again.
"But you know, my care taker always told me something that always stuck to me about death. They said Nobody dies before age" he frowned confusingly. "What do you mean?" He asked eager to know what your statement meant.
"It means that when a person passes away they've served their purpose and they accomplished what they wanted to on earth so they go into their next step. A life even better than what they've gotten." You gazed at him smiling of course it hurt, alot but your friend was very successful and very happy when you went to the funeral and walked up to her casket the way she lied there was a peaceful sight. Slight smile on her face despite her body being cold.
As much as it hurt saying good bye you couldn't help but smile at how happy she looked to earn peace of an even better life in the next. Leaving her pain behind her.
Iwaizumi reached to hold your hand thinking he couldn't possibly be more in love how foolish he thought.
"You're really strong you know that?" You laughed heavily squeezing his hand while a few tears slipped out of your eyes. "Its a part of life you know its just it always hurts when they leave but it makes me at ease knowing that something better is out there for them."
You looked up at your boyfriend who was tearing up in front of you exchanging silent smiles and promises to never be sad when anything happens to you both individually because at the end of the day the light at the end of the tunnel is always brighter than the start.
Kissing in the dead of night as a confirmation to what you both were thinking and agreeing to your promise. While he held you in his arms remembering to always make you feel better because even though his job was draining coming home to you and embracing you was something that always, always made him feel better. Hoping that it would be your cure as well.
Kuroo Tetsuro
"Kitten! Come help me with this!" Kuroo whined as he was trying to hang up the drawn portrait of your pet dog on the wall. Today was just a normal lazy day in the kuroo & L/n household. "Tetsu- stop whining can't you see I'm busy here" you rolled your eyes at your 6'2 pouting boyfriend who's suddenly bad at everything he can do alone knowing damn well he just uses it as an excuse to be close to you.
Despite what everyone thought of Kuroo he sure was the clingy type in fact if you got up to the bathroom during the night he'd whine about how you don't love him anymore because you left his arms.
Walking over to you trying to put the portrait into different frames you had placed on the floor deciding which one would look the best on the wall. He crouched down to your level and hugged you from behind while resting his chin on your shoulder.
"Kitten don't use that sassy tone with me I'm still your senpai chibi-chan." You giggled and rolled your eyes at his silly nickname "you know that it's been 5 years since high school right ?" He smirked at you and kissed your neck earning a whimper from you at the warm sensation. "But you're still my chibi-chan" "whatever you say captain"
you smiled at his warmth while sliding the portrait out of the frame you put it in. "Say chibi-chan, why don't you start calling me captain in bed?" You looked at him with the best deadpan expression you could make while he wiggled his eyebrows at you as a way to say 'whatcha think???' "No". You answered back.
you stood up grabbing the frame you thought fit best on the wall and he followed you like a lost puppy "oooohhh come on chibi-chan, how would that hurt? You refused to call me daddy you know!" You laughed at his annoying smug grin and rolled your eyes at his pouty face.
"I'm not calling you captain testu- besides why isn't testu enough for you? Sex is supposed to be intimate why would I call you something that I don't like thinking about." You chuckled,
but he knew better than anyone that your chuckle wasn't because you thought it was funny but because you were hiding the slight pain in your voice.
If you had anything common with kuroo it was that your home wasn't as perfect either. Your father was indeed home and he lived with you guys but if he wasn't it would've probably been for the better. And he knew about that.
"Kitten can I ask you something?" You rolled your eyes thinking this was going to be another bribe for you to call him some nick name during sexual intercourse but decided to play along. "Aye aye captain ask away." Popping the cardboard open to place the portrait inside the decided frame you heard him swallow and he opened his mouth to talk.
"Is it because of him?" You almost dropped the portrait from your hands. Grip hardening on the piece of paper in your hold.
You looked at him sadness reflecting your eyes trying to hide it behind your weak smile. You nodded. "Yeah. It is".
You didn't notice how your hand started shaking becoming angry and over rushed with every negative emotion in your body tears swelling up your eyes not noticing how your boyfriend was already by your side placing the paper you held so tightly on to the side while pulling you in to his chest and relaxing as you softened against him.
"I'm sorry I shouldn't have asked you that." You sniffles against shaking your head. "No it's okay, it's just.." he placed his hand on your head tracing his thumb against your hair lightly something that always soothed you when your sad.
"I just don't want to remember him, You know and I still feel like it's my fault that he's the way he is, maybe if I-" "no."
Kuroo cut you off by lifting your chin up to look at him worry and pain plastered onto his face. How can anyone hurt you he thought.
"It's not your fault kitten, if anything he's the asshole. You didn't deserve him and his shitty behaviour if I was in his place I would've made sure to protect you even from myself."
You laughed while he wiped your tears and you leaned to his touch "you just made this sound gross testu" he chuckled and pulled you into his chest once again allowing you to hear his racing heart that only raced for you.
"guess I'm gross for making my kitten laugh while crying" you giggled wrapping your arms tightly around him, enjoying his warmth and love for a few seconds before mumbling. "Captain sounds nice.." giggling to yourself and suddenly yelping as he picked you up bridal style and kissing your lips making his way to the bedroom
"Tetsu put me down!!! We still didn't hang the portrait yet!!" He chuckled as you squirmed in his hold "nope I'm sure the portrait could wait right now I have to take this new nickname for a test drive" as he closed the door to the bedroom leaving you and your worries behind.
You knew that at the end of the day kuroo would never hurt you. Unless it's in bed but that's beside the point.. he truly loved you and while you laid in his arms that night completely bare he vowed to himself to always protect you. Even if that meant from himself.
—----------------------------------------------—
A/N: I hope that you guys enjoyed this piece dedicated to mental health month! Please don't ever doubt your feelings they are valid and you have every right to feel the way you feel thank you all for being the way you guys are ! Much love to everyone! Stay strong

"Gabrielle, Tell him. Do the Bard thing" Chariots of War
From the very first episode Gabrielle is introduced as a storyteller and straight away it is hard not to be impressed with the level of authenticity the writers give to Gabrielle’s skills as a Bard. Many of these stories she tells are based on fragments of authentic myths.
Tumblr media
'Chariots of War', the second episode of the series, opens on Gabrielle telling Xena a story as they make their way to the bar in a village tavern. Though we only catch the ending of her story, there is still interesting details to unpick.
G: “And so, Zeus, in his appreciation, turned the two lovers into oak trees. And then do you know what happened?”
X: “Somebody built a boat out of them?”
G: “No-- their branches intertwined, and they spent the rest of their days in each other’s embrace.”
There are a lot of stories in Greek myth involving 'metamorphoses', the Greek word for ‘transformations’, with both gods and mortals turning into other things like plants or animals. The only story that comes close to the one Gabrielle tells is the story of Baucis and Philemon.
Tumblr media
The complete version of the myth is only found in the work ‘Metamorphoses'. It is a collection of myths woven together into a narrative through their common theme of transformation. It was written by the Roman poet Ovid who lived between 43 BC and 17 AD, a period of Roman history which saw the end of the Roman Republic and the reign of the first Emperor, Augustus.
The gods Zeus and Hermes (known here in their Roman forms, Jupiter and Mercury) disguise themselves as mortals and travel across Greece. When they seek hospitality from the mortals they encounter, they find themselves turned away from every household until the come upon the simple home of Philemon and Baucis.
‘Looking for shelter and rest, they called at a thousand
homesteads;
a thousand doors were bolted against them. One
house, however,
did make them welcome, a humble abode with a roof
of straw
and marsh reed, one that new its duty to the gods and men.
Here good Philemon an Baucis had happily passed
their youth
and here they had reached old age, enduring their
poverty lightly
by owning it freely and being content with the little
they had.’
Ovid, Metamorphoses, 8.628-635
Here the couple greet the strangers and offer up what little they have, providing them with the best of the meagre food and wine unknowing their true divine identities. Ovid goes in to quite a bit of detail describing the hospitality the couple offer especially the dishes that make up their feast during. While they entertain their guests the cups magically refill with wine.
‘Meanwhile, whenever the mixing-bowl got empty,
it seemed
To refill of its own accord, with the wine welling up by
itself.
Stunned and scared by this wonder, Philemon,
trembling, and Baucis
lifted their upturn hands to heaven and fervently
prayed
For forgiveness after serving so poorly prepared a repast.’
Ovid, Metamorphoses, 8.679-682
Fearing they have offended their divine guest they seek to appease them by sacrificing their only goose. This leads to a comical scene with the elderly couple chasing the goose and failing to catch it. It appears to run towards to gods for safety which seems to work as the gods command them to spare the bird as they are grateful for what they have already provided.
They then proclaim that the couple will be spared from the punishment they will inflict of their impious neighbours who refused to honour the Greek custom of hospitality known as xenia (ξενία), a word derived from the Greek word for stranger xenos(ξένος). Sometimes referred to as 'ritualized friendship' the custom was based on generosity, courtesy and gift-giving that strengthen ties between people. In earlier times when it was thought that the gods walked among mortals it was even more important to respect these customs to avoid incurring the wrath of a visiting god. It would became seen as a moral obligation for both Guest and Host to show respect to each other.
Returning to Ovid's story, the couple leave their home with the gods and head to the safety mountains. There they witness the flood the gods send down to wipe out their impious neighbours. Nothing is spared except the couple’s home which undergoes its own transformation as it becomes a temple to the gods.
The gods offer to grant the couple anything they desire as reward. After deliberating with each other Philemon and Baucis ask to be guardians of the new temple and also, that when the time comes for them to die, that they die together so they don’t have to suffer the loss of their partner. After many years happy years together they are transformed into Trees. Philemon an Oak and Baucis a linden.
"We
ask
to be priests and to guard your temple; and since we
have passed our years
together in peace, let the same hour carry us off, so I
need not
look on my dear wife’s grave, nor she have to bury my
body."
Their wish was granted; as long as life was allowed
them, they served
as the temple’s guardians. When time had taken its
final toll,
and while they were casually standing in front of the
steps of the building,
telling the sanctuary’s history, both Philemon and
Baucis
witnessed their partner sprouting leaves on their worn
old limbs
As the tops of the trees spread over their lip sand concealed
them forever.
Still to this day the peasants of Phrygia point to the oak
and the linden nearby which once where the forms of
Philemon and Baucis.’ Ovid, Metamorphoses, 8.712-720
The devotion the couple have for each other is really endearing. You can really see why this story would appeal to a young Gabrielle who left her home and arranged marriage to find the true place she feels she belongs.
It is also an interesting choice of story to share with Xena, someone she’s just met who is aloof and independent. She’s eager to befriend the warrior but is finding her emotionally distant. This emotional distance is reflected in the physical distance between them. In these early episodes they have clearly defined personal spaces, such as sperate bedrolls, and they spend a lot of time apart as Gabrielle is left behind in a 'safe' location. You could read into this that just as Xena tries to keep distance between her and Gabrielle physically to protect her, she is trying to keep her emotionally distant for safety reasons as well. In some ways Gabrielle may understand this which is why she choses to tell this particular story to Xena. The old couple might seem weak and vulnerable but they are given strength by the devotion and support they have for each other. Gabrielle is trying to show her new friend that caring isn't a weakness but a source of strength by using this story as an example.
X: “What’s the point?”
G: “Come on, Xena. I believe everyone will find their tree in the forest someday-- even you.”
X: “I find the strongest trees in the forest stand alone.”
G: “You don’t have to be strong all the time, Xena; sometimes it’s good for the soul to be soft.”
This moment beautifully foreshadows the relationship that grows between Xena and Gabrielle throughout the series as both become entwined emotionally, spiritually and physically in a multiple of ways. There are moments that the imagery of the myth is invoked in such a way that Xena and Gabrielle symbolically become the lovers. Intentional or not by the writers it is a fantastic coincidence.
One episode that subtly does this is ‘The Abyss’ during one of its poignant cave scenes. After an encounter with cannibals Xena and an injured Gabrielle become tapped in a cave that is rapidly flooding. As Xena tries to get them out, Gabrielle tells Xena her final wish, that she wants to be buried with Xena.
Tumblr media
X [Whispers]: "Gabrielle-- Gabrielle-- here-- here. The time's
come. We're getting you out of here, all right?"
G: "Oh."
X: "All right."
G: "Xena, I have a-- a last wish."
X: "I don't want to hear of it."
G: "No-- I'm serious. You don't want to know?"
X: "What is it, then?"
G: "I don't-- want to be buried-- with the Amazons."
X: "All right. Well, in fifty years, when the time comes."
G: "Xena-- I wanna lie with you-- with your family? In
Amphipolis."
X: "What about your family?"
G: "I love them-- but I'm a part of you. I want it to be like
that forever. I love you."
It is the climax of a series of intimate moments that are grounded in their love and devotion to each other. Gabrielle’s words cement their soulmate relationship. They are meant to be, and will be, together forever like the lovers of her story.
The context of this moment adds another layer to this allusion. As Gabrielle is affirming to Xena that she is a part of her, the warrior princess is preparing to save her injured partner by tying her to herself using vines. This nicely invokes images of Gabrielle’s story of the two lovers who becoming trees and entwining together. Also it connects with Ovid's tale of Philemon and Baucis as like the mythic couple, Xena cannot bear to witness the death of her partner. As Philemon and Baucis were spared that fate by being transformed into trees, Xena is using a plant to physically entwine her and Gabrielle to save her from death.
This climb up the ravine walls to escape the rising water could be reminiscent of Philemon's and Baucis' arduous climb up the mountain to escape the flood or just another coincidence. What perhaps isn't is that it is love and devotion that binds each couple together for eternity. Just like the lovers in the story Gabrielle tells in season one, and the myth it is based upon, Xena and Gabrielle will be together for eternity in each other's embrace.
Throughout the series there are a number of different ways Xena and Gabrielle become entwined together. As the emotional distance between them shrinks, the physical space seen in earlier episodes disappears and they begin to embrace each other. Not only is there a myriad of touches and hugs to connect them but while sitting, walking and even fighting they become inseparable.
Tumblr media
They become so close that they pick up traits from each other and almost merge into one. This is such a vast topic to discuss it really needs its own post to explore in detail but the importance for this discussion is the idea that they merge into one entity. The idea that they become one is the connection with the myths and invokes the imagery of metamorphosis.
This metamorphosis becomes literal later in the series. In season 5’s ‘Succession’ during Ares’ contest to determine a worthy successor to Xena as his Chosen, he places Gabrielle and Xena into the same body. At dawn they discover that Gabrielle metamorphoses in to Xena and dusk, Xena into Gabrielle. This nicely alludes to Gabrielle’s story as they transform, much like the couple becoming entwine trees, two individuals become one entwined in each others bodies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This physical metamorphoses happens in the series when it has become fully established that these two are soulmates, destined to be together for eternity. They are truly devoted to each other that they cannot be separated, just as the lovers cannot bear to be parted from each other even when they are transformed into trees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As Gabrielle predicted at the end of her story, they both found their tree in the forest in each other.

Chapter One - Oh, What a Circus
It was a beautiful awakening that you had on the day that your life and future changed, when you woke up from your siesta, your chambers were warm and the perfect Spanish sunlight was streaming through your sheer linen curtains. The room was cast in a holy yellow light like God himself was honouring you. You made the most of your siestas now because you had heard that the boring English people did not take them.
Smiling sadly, you plucked a sugared grape from the golden platter and you walked over to your window, relishing in the beauty of the Castile water gardens. You knew that you would never be coming back to this palace of such beauty and splendour again because you were to be the Queen of England. You were to live out the rest of your days in grey old England. It had been a betrothal since birth but you didn’t want it, you never had. Only your parents wanted it.
You felt your eyes fill up with tears – you didn’t want to be the Queen of England – and you prayed to God, telling him so and asking him for a miracle. It seemed like God had heard you and answered your prayer for a few moments later, your father was shouting outside of your rooms, his voice like rumbling thunder.
“How dare he insult us so? Bastardo!”
At the commotion you crept out of your rooms and into the hallway where your mother and father were talking, the hallway was hardly the place to be talking about this, “Madre, Padre,” you called out as you approached them.
Your father’s eyes softened as he looked at you but he still brandished the letter in front of your face, “that son of a whore King James has written to us apologising for he has taken a common woman to wife and made her Queen! We should ally with the French and invade England!”
A soft blossom of hope bloomed in your chest as you realised that you wouldn’t have to marry the King of England. But, you were also incredibly insulted, how dare he refuse you? You, who was the Princess of the Castile, was not to be refused
The Queen tutted as she snatched the letter from your father, “we need to be allied with the English, it’s been 16 years in the making, we cannot throw it all away. King James had been kind enough to propose an alternative match.”
Your father growled, alarming some passing servants, “he offers us the Duke of Bedford, a man who has bastards all over England no doubt. He’s not worthy of our greatest treasure,” your father smiled fondly at you as he cupped your cheek with a large hand and you smiled up at him.
You knew the Duke of Bedford – Sirius Black – by reputation; he held the French lands for the English. He was said to be handsome but had fathered many bastards. Your father was right, he wasn’t good enough for you, “Padre is right Madre. I am a princess and I should be marrying a future King, a Duke is below my station. I won’t marry him!”
Your mother’s eyes flashed with malice as you defied her, she had always hated the fact that you weren’t a boy; she had to pass on her crown to your older sister, “you will Y/N! The Duke of Bedford is the second most powerful man in England; the King heavily relies on his council. You will be a very powerful woman, also no one in Europe will take you now, you’ve been promised to England since birth and now they will get you. We will write of our confirmation and our thanks and you will set sail for England as soon as possible Y/N. the Queen wants to meet you before you go to the Duke’s lands in France,” she looked at you without warmth as she strode down the corridor. She was a ruthless leader but you almost looked up to her.
Your father smiled at you kindly as he kissed your forehead, “Mantenerte fuerte Y/N,” he whispered against your skin.
“Mantenerte fuerte Padre,” you repeated with a smile as you looked into his kindly, weathered face.
The day before you were due to set sail for England you were taking a walk around the Castile water gardens with your lady in waiting, Sofia. You feared that this was the last time you would see the radiant Spanish sunshine and Sofia must have sensed your fear because she took your hand in hers.
“We will see this land again Your Highness, with your children. England is but the next great adventure,” she told you wisely and you smiled at her, squeezing her hand gently as you sat on the stone benches.
“I really hope so Sofia.”
The crossing to England was slow and gentle but the rocking motion of the ship made you rather sick, so sick that you were sure that you would die. Sofia was at your side, sponging your forehead and the back of your neck as you sobbed, you wanted to go home. You missed your parents already. You even missed your mother with her cruel words and scathing retorts, she acted like she was the King herself but she was the strongest woman you knew. You hated leaving your father behind with her.
Finally, after what felt like years at sea, you saw land again and you could have wept with joy, even if it was dreary and dull, it was supposed to be springtime. You disembarked from the ship with shaky legs and you were met by the English army who all bowed low to you, “Your Highness,” they muttered as they sank into the sand. You made the most of the fact that they were using your proper title; you weren’t sure how long that would last.
You chose to ride alongside the army instead of residing in the lavish litter that the English had prepared for you. You wanted to see as much of this new country as you could. The first thing that you noticed about this land was that it was very green and you knew that England must get a lot of rain. That thought did nothing to cheer your dark mood.
Though, you missed Spain terribly, you saw the charm and the beauty of the English countryside and the villages you passed through, you smiled at the peasants as they called your name. You hoped that you would grow to love this new land because you would be coming to live at the English court after your wedding.
The English court – and London - was much more beautiful than you had anticipated even if it was a bit constricting. Nerves swarmed in your stomach as you were admitted into the magnificent Throne Room and you noticed that all the lords and ladies of court were looking at you like you were some sort of strange beast. It was in the Throne Room where you saw the most beautiful and dazzling woman.
Queen Lily had long curling tresses of flaming auburn hair and she had the most beautiful green eyes. You almost admired the King for defying everyone and marrying the woman that he loved. True love was all that you wanted but you were unsure whether you would ever have it, you had been unsure about that fact since you were a little girl. Queen Lily was smiling at you with beauty and kindness in her eyes while the King looked at you warily. He should look at you like that; he should have been ashamed of himself.
You sank into a low curtsey, “your Majesty’s,” you muttered.
“Princess Y/N, thank you so much for coming here and accepting our invitation please arise,” the Queen smiled, she had a melodic voice. You smiled back and stood up straight.
“I apologise for the insult that I must have extended to your family,” King James bowed his head mournfully and you had to admit that he did look very sorry.
You shook your head, if the King started to apologise to his subjects then he would seem weak to those who would want to take his throne, “you’re the King,” you said simply, “I am happy to marry the Duke of Bedford,” you lied.
King James chuckled as he ran a hand through his messy curls, “well, I’m sure that Sirius will be delighted to hear it,” he grinned and the court chuckled obediently.
Queen Lily giggled; it was a musical pretty sound, as she got up from her throne and walked towards you, taking your hand in her warm one as she looked at you with a kind smile. She was as warm as the Spanish sunshine, “I would be delighted if you and your lady would join my household when you return to court.”
For the first time that day you didn’t have to fake the smile, “we would be honoured,” you smiled at Sofia who nodded eagerly. You were touched by her kind words; she smiled and lowered her voice so only you could hear.
“We ladies must stick together; it’s a man’s world after all.”
You smiled as you shook your head, remembering what your mother had told you years ago, “no your Majesty, it’s a woman’s world, men just live in it. I know it’s hard to believe but in time you will see it.”
------------------------------------
Sirius’ springtime dream had come to a rude and final ending, he had spent his days among such beauty and pleasure that he never wanted to stray from it. No man would. However, duty – and his King – called him and he couldn’t refuse the call. He had to leave behind his life of pleasure for a life at court where friends would stab each other in the back. Sirius was getting married and he didn’t want to dishonour his future bride, even if he would resent her. So he had to say farewell to his mistresses. They were sad to see him go.
Sirius had been best friends with King James since they were boys and James had made him such a powerful man than Sirius was only second to the King. James had been betrothed since birth to Princess Y/N of the Castile. At first Sirius was jealous that James was to wed a Princess but then again, he was going to be the King, it was his birth right. Sirius was surprised when James had come to him about four weeks ago to tell him that he had secretly married Lily Evans, a very minor lady at his court.
James’ marriage meant that the contract with England was void unless there was another match for the Princess. At first Sirius had resisted the match, he fought and raged against the King before he stopped and really thought about it. He had to marry well and he couldn’t do any better than the Princess of the Castile, a young woman who had been promised to the King. Sirius knew that he wasn’t good enough for her but he was used to coming in second, to his younger brother Regulus, and to James.
It was a beautiful day in France the day he was to meet his future bride and hoped with all his heart that it was a good omen. He jumped as the door flew open and James strode in, grinning like a Cheshire cat, “come on Sirius! Y/N is here and she’s as fair as they all say,” James beamed, it seemed like he was really happy for Sirius.
However, that didn’t stop Sirius from grimacing, “then why didn’t you marry her?” Sirius mumbled, combing his fingers through his hair as they walked down the hallway.
James snickered as he slapped Sirius on the back, “because I fell in love,” he said it as if it was the answer to everything, “and I wish you and Y/N the same.”
“Not bloody likely,” Sirius muttered as they descended the stone steps and walked out into the glorious French sunlight.
Butterflies swarmed in Sirius’ stomach as he looked towards Lily and Remus – the Earl of Warwick – who both nodded at him encouragingly. Taking a deep breath, he looked towards his future bride and felt his heart jump up into his throat. Princess Y/N was beautiful; it was like she had just wandered from the pages of a fairy tale. She looked just like the Nymph that was featured in the tapestry that hung in the East Wing. Though, Sirius knew that beauty counted for nought if she had an ugly heart.
Y/N’s pretty eyes looked over the beautiful chateau appreciatively before she gained the courage to look at Sirius. Her eyelashes seemed to flutter of their own accord and her lips opened slightly as a pretty flush grew on her face and neck.
Y/N cleared her throat and curtseyed, her ladies following suit, “My Lord, I am pleased to meet you,” her voice had a wonderful little something to it due to her Spanish accent but it was still as pretty as a song.
Sirius smiled as he approached her and he noticed her eyes roam from his feet, stopping at his lips before looking into his eyes. Her eyes sparkled in the sunshine, like precious jewels. He bowed low to her and took her warm hand in his, pressing a feather light kiss to the top of it.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, Your Highness, you are most beautiful,” he said smoothly and her flush deepened, “in my household you will still be treated as a Princess, even after we are married,” he didn’t want to take that title away from her.
“Thank you, My Lord,” she smiled, looking pleasantly surprised, “your home is beautiful, I think that I will like it here.”
“Would you like for me to show you around?” he asked on a whim as he held out his hand.
She nodded, the sunlight rippling through her soft hair as she did so and she took his hand, allowing him to lead her inside. As soon as they got into the cool chateau Y/N let go of his hand. Sirius bit his lip as he rubbed the back of his neck as he nervously looked over at the beautiful princess, searching for the right words.
“I’m sorry Your Highness, you weren’t supposed to come here to be a Duchess, you were supposed to be Queen.”
Y/N looked at him and smiled wanly, in the depths of her eyes there was almost a look of understanding, “I don’t like being passed around England like a prized cow.”
Sirius nodded as Y/N stopped to marvel at a beautiful tapestry embroidered with a mermaid, “I understand, you won’t get passed around England. I promise.”
“Thank you, My Lord,” she smiled graciously as she bowed her head.
“Sirius, call me Sirius.”

Mothers Day Significance, History & Ways To Celebrate
Mothers are really a gift from God. Someone said that it’s true that God can’t be present everywhere; “That’s why he created mothers for everyone in place of him.” If a father is the backbone of a child’s body, then a mother is the whole body of a child. A child is born and able to open his eyes for the first time on this earth, all because of his or her mother.
There is no best friend other than a mother. They’ve always had our backs, from nurturing us as children to staying with us as cranky teens and also on our every cry, her shoulder proves to be a support for us. That is why, every year, to give them special respect or feel, we celebrate Mother’s Day.
Here in this blog, we will provide you with all the information about Mother’s Day, how and why it is celebrated, and its history.
Tumblr media
Significance of Mothers Day
Mother’s Day is a celebration of the bond of love and affection between a mother and a child, and it is celebrated to celebrate the whole of motherhood. Mothers are a unique and supreme gift from God to children. They sacrifice their whole lives for their children. Mother’s Day is observed to commemorate the mother’s sacrifice made for her child. It also shows a child’s unconditional love for his/her mother when they give her some special surprises, gifts, and many more things.
A mother is a great and everlasting friend to a child, even though her responsibilities begin when she gives you birth and continue until you are old enough to stand on your own. Mother’s Day is a special day to remind the whole society and children of the sacrifices made by their mother. Even if you throw all the money in the world at her feet, you can’t repay your mother’s favour for you.

History of Mothers Day
There is no such great history of mothers day, still, people believe the two histories of Mothers Day i.e:
Mother’s Day’s roots and honouring of motherhood can be traced back to ancient times. At their spring festival, they honoured the goddess Rhea, known as the Mother of the Gods. Rhea was linked to another mother goddess, Cybele, who was revered by the Romans.
It wasn’t really a mother’s day celebration, but because of a period during Lent when people go back to their mother church, their main church, for a special service. For this reason, Mother’s Day always falls on the fourth Sunday of Lent every year. Children give flowers, gift bouquets, and many surprise parties to their mothers as gifts.
Some people believe that to remind the virgin Mary the mother of Jesus this mother's day is celebrated.
Whatever the reason behind the celebration of Mother’s Day, if you love your mom, every day is special for you. You can’t do anything with history and more; connect with your mother more and strive to be her best child this Mother’s Day 2022.
Ways to celebrate Mothers Day
If you love your mom from the heart, every day is Mother’s Day for you. Celebrate this Mother’s Day and surprise your mom with something that she likes the most and promise to be the best child for her. Provided below are some of the best ways to celebrate this Mother’s Day 2022. Take a look at them and try to follow any of them to see a great smile on your mother’s face.
· Give her a surprise by providing her with breakfast in bed.
· If she loves flowers, then there is no other ideal and best gift except a handmade bouquet for her.
· Try making her free from all the households that day. Just tell her to sit back and order whatever she wants.
· You can even arrange a surprise party for your mother. Seeing your surprise, she will definitely be amazed and a smile on her face gives you everything.
· Spend the whole day with your mother because it’s her day. Try treating her like a queen and fulfilling all her wishes and demands that she never asked for earlier.
· You can even plan to watch a movie together of her choice. That’s also a great way to celebrate this Mother’s Day 2022.
Conclusion
A mother always tries to do her best for her child. Why not try to make our mothers proud and happy on this Mother’s Day by doing something great for them? No one can take the place of a mother in one’s life. Whenever you are sad or feeling low, it is only your mother who understands and finds your problem earlier than others. Not only that, even if you have success or failure in your life, she always stands with you and motivates you by giving you great lessons in life. Sometimes you can’t even imagine her importance in your life; feel deeply and celebrate Mother’s Day with her.

Contract | 1527 | Oneshot for Assassin AU
"Mei," Yuk Zhi said to her quietly, lying next to each other in the dark privacy of their shared bed. "Do you want me to free you from your contract?"
Mei Mun frowned. "What brought this on?"
"Answer the question."
"I'm not planning to marry, so what's the point?" Mei Mun had been a servant for the Chan family since she was seven, and her father had persuaded her mother that she would have a better life as a maidservant in a kind merchant family than as a prostitute's bastard.
Chan-sinsaang and Chan-taitai loved children and were kind employers, they would treat her well. Mei Mun would be fed, clothed, and one day have a good marriage arranged; raised in a safer and more respectable environment than a brothel, in exchange for running random little errands when young and serving more properly as a maidservant when older. If, if her father was wrong, he swore, he would get her out no matter the cost. He had that much bargaining power, as the Chan household's doctor.
Then Mei Mun and Yuk Zhi had met, and the rest was history.
"You do not have to stay. You can seek employment elsewhere," Yuk Zhi persisted, and that gave Mei Mun pause. She turned to face her. "A-Zhi," she said seriously, "do you want me to leave?"
It wasn't that she had never considered it. The world was wide; life on a merchant ship had taught her that much. And if she ever wanted to leave, the Chan parents and Yuk Zhi had sworn to give her her dowry and send her off with their blessing.
But there was love between her and the Chans - her best friend Yuk Zhi, her parents who had all but raised Mei Mun, even her brothers who annoyed and were annoyed by her. They treated her well. And with Yuk Zhi, she would never be anything less than the second lady of the household, an honoured sister in all but name - a high station for the bastard of a prostitute and a doctor.
"Of course not." It was the mulish tone Mei Mun had grown so used to over the years, and that reassured her. "Then what brought this on?"
Yuk Zhi was silent, and Mei Mun let her be, let her gather her thoughts. "I am not free, Mei."
A rustle of sheets, as Yuk Zhi turned - most likely to face Mei Mun, but in the pitch-black of the rural countryside, neither of them could see. "I am not free. I am bound to that bastard until the day he dies. You - I can free you. You don't have to stay."
"Yuk Zhi." Mei Mun cursed Hostia, the fucking old bastard. Yuk Zhi was supposed to be happy. She was supposed to marry a man who would love her, and pamper her, and bear him a passel of bright, healthy sons, and she would grow old as an honoured, beloved dowager - and Mei Mun, the dear aunt who had helped raise the children, would also be cared for in her old age.
Instead, this was what they had.
"Of course I'm staying. I can't leave you with that old bastard."
Yuk Zhi might have frowned, she didn't know. “But I can’t - I don’t want you stuck here. Gods know the old man doesn’t treat any of us well.”
Mei Mun reached out blindly for her face. “If I want to leave, I will tell you. And no gods, no man, not even you will hold me,” she promised, “but for now, I am staying here.”
She felt Yuk Zhi smile under her hand, pressing into the contact like a touch-starved kitten. A little part of her heart broke. “Go to sleep, A-Zhi.”
Yuk Zhi gave a little nod. “Night.”
“Night.”
Notes:
And the next day they hatch their plot to kill Hostia :)
