to be fair: this is from the comic adaptation of the 1990 film, not from the canon Mirage continuity. The film itself is a rough adaptation of original comic storylines, but makes sure to keep seeding in pure comedy scenes like this one, to match expectations set by the wildly popular cartoon.
but to be even more fair: the Mirage comics were also plenty goofy in their original form. They got to have cool fight scenes with real blood in them and say âdamnâ and âhellâ sometimes, but there were also plenty of pop culture gags and silly swear replacements along the way.
I think this mischaracterization is at least partially a product of Gatekeeping Comic Bros, honestly. They found out that there was an original indie comic at the root of the extremely mainstream TMNT sensation, and they loved being able to âhey did you know?â people about it. Because these kinds of guys also tend to value Hardcore above all, the comics got caricatured as this ultra-violent thing that you could never put in front of a kid when... no, theyâre really not. Theyâre just more mature than the 1987 toy commercial cartoon for kids (I say with the utmost fondness).
You might even be able to keep that impression if youâve only read #1 (which was meant as a parody, juxtaposing the dark visual intensity with the ridiculousness of the premise); but by the time #2 rolls around, the characters get real dialog, we meet April for the first time, and the more moderate tone and goofs are already starting to come out. Anyone who seriously argues that there needs to be an R-rated TMNT film to adapt it âproperlyâ has simply not read the OG comics.
TMNT I (1990)

PJO 1x01 and 1x02 thoughts
The first chapter monologue in the perfect way to open the show and establish Percy's voice from the beginning. Walker immediately nailed both Percy's sarcasm, impertinence, and anger, which is so so so critical for anchoring the show.
how dare you waste megan mullally like this (she's coming back later according to previews BUT STILL)
direction in the first episode, especially with the action scenes, was a little lacking. percy killing mrs. dodds was weirdly anti-climatic. the car chase could've been a bit more exciting and the minotaur was okay
I LOVE YOU SALLY JACKSON, BEST MOM ON THE PLANET.
I have seen some posts about Gabe being defanged but he's clearly still an abusive waste of space. The dude is answering her phone, unemployed, gambling away her money, it's red flag city up in here. Curious how they're going to show him in later episodes and what they'll do with the Medusa plotline.
Grover is one of those characters that I have very little emotional attachment to. He's just sort of... there in the books for me. But Aryan's a little cutie and he does a great job of acting like he's just a little bit older/mature than Percy. Loved his little back and forth with Sally in the cabin. Deeply underutilized in the second episode, but obvs he'll get more time later on.
is the dryad his mom???
I adore the set design for camp, especially the Big House and all the stained glass motifs. But WTF is up with all the skeletons in Cabin 3? get a better interior designer poseidon you fucking weirdo
Jason Mantzoukas' energy for Mr. D was perfect, no notes. Did love his interactions with Percy and Grover.
Chiron is... there?
Clarisse is perfectly cast. Luke is underwhelming so far, but he really hasn't gotten to do anything real meaty yet.
I'm ready to see more of Annabeth in future episodes because she really didn't do much more than lurk and be cryptic since they gave her role as guide to camp to Luke. (I am not a fan of this decision, but whatever, gotta set Luke up for ~ultimate betrayal)
Her exasperated shove of Percy into the lake was A+ but why was the trident so damn big lmao
Loved loved loved Percy's burning anger at his dad and wanting to make him show up. Excellent characterization
"I am Sally Jackson's son!" dead dead dead tell 'em perce
curious as to why the episodes are limited to 45 minutes because i think another 5-10 minutes on the runtime would've helped with some of the pacing issues. but the show's clearly cut with commercial breaks in mind so i'm guessing this is eventually going to air on the Disney Channel or ABC.
#pjo tv#percy jackson#it's a true adaptation which is really what we deserve at this point#looking forward to seeing how the rest of the season goes!

Pov: your ex best friend and his lil gang get rid of ur parent's memories while ur big sister and the other trusted adults you know are gone so you use what he taught you against him and make it out to piss him off every chance you get bc you're salty lol
WAOHHH IM ALIVE? is this fandom alive? I hope so....ANYWAYS TANGLED OC WHATTâď¸
ANYWAYS this is my oc, what's her nameâď¸ hell if I know LMAO, Drop the name suggestions below đ
Anyways yapping undercut
SEASON 1
Anyways she's Rapunzel's younger sister, was sorta isolated cause her parents were a bit paranoid after having their first child kidnapped yadayada ermm Cassandra used to train her in like fighting and stuff cause yk self defense....she's sorta like shy cause well she didn't go out that often
Gets along well with Rapunzel, kinda sus abt Eugene but he saved her sister so she's like ehh whatever, befriends Varian and is super excited cause she gets her first friend her age!! Ermm he talks a lot of Alchemy cause duh, and she listens and let's him info dump, gives him access to the royal library super fun or whatevrrrr
Then when the whole thing with his dad happens, she's like "omg BRB lemme see if I can find any books or smth to help!! Don't leave!" He leaves...or sorta gets kicked out ykyk
She sorta gets upset with Rapunzel cause well...yeah..anyways when Varian returns she's like "omg bestie I'm sorry" and he's all yk, she notices he's acting a bit sus but along with Rapunzel helps him out... BOOM BETRAYAL, they fist fight /hj
Anyways Rapunzel's birthdayâźď¸Oc is sorta just sulking cause she lost her bestie for life, but she's also not given up on trying to figure out a way to help her ex best friend...sigh ANYWAYS she gangs up with Rapunzel against their dad...BOOM THEY GET GROUNDEDDDD
Gang helps break her out too, she's all angy towards her ex bestie but also wants to talk to him cause she doesn't wanna fight him again đ but yknow fog thingy happens and she uses what he taught her to help fight but then she's like "OMG YALL this is a distractionâźď¸âźď¸" for what? She doesn't know what but she knows Varian well enough to know this is to keep everyone busy. And yk boom mother dearest gets kidnapped.
Anyways everyone gets ready to go and fist fight broski, and while Rapunzel and her dad go up to confront Varian they're like "okay you stay here cause your too young and too close to Varian" and she's all angy abt that too but does as told. Anyways varian comes out with his giant robot and she's able to fight him off a bit while Rapunzel figures out the rocks and delivers the final blow and yk that happens...THEN BOOM VARIAN GOES TO JAILLL yolo
ANDDD SEASON 2
She doesn't go with the gang cause she's still hung up abt Varian and in the beginning she goes to visit Varian in jail, but he kinda shuts her out which she doesn't blame him for. This I added myself but Varian spends his birthday in JAIL and she goes and is like "I brought you cake" and they kinda start talking but then it blows up into a fight and that's when she stops visiting him...sad
Anyways he and the other guys I forgot their names break out of prison, make her parents lose their memories abt her an Rapunzel and she sneaks out before they can find out, she sorta starts up a rebellion but a hidden one and occasionally appears to save ppl or break em outta prison and to also piss off Varian lol
And yes she uses what she learned from him against him bc she's petty...
SEASON 3
She helps the gang during their fight and explains what's beeb happening while they were gone, Varian redemption arc happens but she's sorta has trust issues now cause remember Varian was her first friend ever and he wants to befriend her again but she's kinda barely even talking to him
During the red rocks episode Rapunzel tries to push her to trust Varian again and after an emotional moment and when Varian is having doubt and yk fear, she talks to him, yk besties make up and they're friends again
This season would mostly be abt them rekindling their friendship and stuff BUT YEAHHHâźď¸âźď¸
they're sillies and I love em sm :>>
If anyone has any questions feel free to ask â¤ď¸
(Yes she's in VAT7K but that's for another time)

ONE YEAR OF "AND THEY WERE LAB PARTNERS" â¨â¨â¨
Thank you to everyone who participated in the one year anniversary poll!! I still maintain that it would be funny as /fuck/ to just delete âAnd They Were Lab Partnersâ in a memento mori fashion, but alas; Only one person voted for it.
Cowards /j
In any case, the majority voted for the behind the scenes stuff, so here we are! The tidbits of how ATWLP turned into the fucking beast it is.
I would like to personally blame @morning-sun-brah , @hitechlatte, and @ordin-arily for being such big inspirations in this corner of the fandom. You guys are amazing and I probably wouldn't be where I am today without your works.
Shout out to all my losers in the backrooms for keeping me going and being such terrible influences. You are all responsible for the horrors that have been unleashed. A solid third of my content exists because of your sins /aff.Â
@beckerboopin is the best beta anyone could ask for and has only brought this story up to the next level. I would die for you becks <3
Also @betyoudidntcthatcoming-blog is the love of my life that I only met âcause of this fic or whatever. Theyâre pretty neat. I guess. :p
ANYWAYS, /CONTENT/
(Major Spoilers Ahead Pre-Chapter 23)
â
I would like to remind everyone that ATWLP was only supposed to be 50k words. You can still witness my naivety in the notes of âPudge âPreciation.âÂ
How⌠simple those times were.Â
How I so firmly believed the idiots would be kissing by chapter 16. How a projected word count of 150k words seemed unfathomable for a single work, much less a work with multiple published and planned companion pieces.
Crazy. (I was crazy once.)
There was a lot of ATWLP that ended up getting scrapped as I got further into the story. The idiots had a lot of opinions and tugged at me a few different ways as I got to know them better. (aka they wouldnât listen to me when I told them to fucking kiss already.)
Anyways, some of the few major structural changes:
Casey was originally supposed to reveal that he knew Sweetâs in the bad timeline during the âIntro to Sparringâ chapter. That chapter was also originally slotted to happen /before/ the kidnapping debacle, but it just so happened to fit in better later
The stage kiss from âHit the Clubâ was going to be in the Nerd Prom chapter. It felt too corny at the time (and lowkey still feels corny) so I put that in my pocket for later. For as much as yâall yelled at me for it, it barely made the final cut lmao.
The way the idiots are going to confess to each other is a COMPLETE 180 from how I planned the story from the beginning, which was already entirely different from the first idea for this fic. I wrote a whole ass chapter about an accidental kiss being the tipping point of them positively macking on each other, which I did end up cutting into convenient pieces for other stuff. (I PUT A PART OF IT DOWN BELOW)
Sweets was going to be kidnapped twice and the whole Purple Dragons debacle was going to be drawn out more. There was a lot more action planned than slice of life content at ATWLPâs conception. For better or for worse, this is where the story led us.
Donnieâs mating season wasnât going to be as involved in the story, if in it at all. I grew to be hornier and less ashamed. Youâre welcome.
The first title for this fic was âLab Rat: a Story of Nerds Falling in Love.â For the life of me I cannot remember what compelled me to change it, but holy shit am I glad I did.
I was going to use (y/n) in this fic. No hate to those who do, but stylistically Iâm pretty happy with not doing that.
And because I have no control over the idiots, quick rundown of the chapters that werenât supposed to happen.
Kart Conflict
The Christmas Issue
The Recovery: Day TwoÂ
Valentineâs Day Episode
Hit the Club
Aquarium? Hardly Know âEm
****Pool Excursion
****Beach Episodes
****honestly just like the entire endgame of this fic
All the ficlets/ alternate POVâs
All the smut! I still have it written down in my original notes that ATWLP was gonna be completely PG lmao. Once again yâall have @morning-sun-brah and her fucking fabulous fics to blame for that
The Valentinesâ and aquarium chapters are COMPLETELY different than how I had originally planned, even with being forced to include them in my chart. The Valentineâs day plans that the brothers had âditchedâ with Sweets was the og plot for the chapter. The aquarium chapter was supposed to be a rooftop picnic with feels~~, no aquarium even fucking mentioned in my outline.
I donât have much control over what happens tbh. I am praying that the 37 planned chapters will be the final chapters.Â
WeâllâŚ. weâll just have to see how that turns out.
The scrapped plots as a little treat for yâall <3 ~~~
Cut Stage Kiss (after the lift in Nerd Prom)
You leaned closer to Donnieâs face, intent on screeching in his ear for pulling that stunt.
âKiss them already!â May yelled from the inner edge of the crowd. You turned bright red, blinking at her. You shook your head at her, but the crowd started to catch onto the idea.Â
âKiss! Kiss! Kiss!â
Donnie laughed, a little incredulous. He leaned in close to your ear, whispering, âTheatre kid protocol?â
You nodded in agreement, allowing him to put a hand to your face. He leans into your mouth, making the crowd go wild. You giggle against the thumb separating your lips, smiling against it. Donnie pulled away from you with a dramatic âmwahâ. You threw your head back, fully laughing as Donnie lifted you up from the dip.Â
First Valentineâs Day Outline
The final four move to the living room
Sweets: âWeâre making friendship bracelets while we watch the most romantic movie of all time.â
Raph: âShrek 2!â
Donnie: âThis is ridiculousâ
Sweets: âThis holiday is ridiculous, now pick out your five favourite colors of embroidery flossâ
Donnie: â....Fine."
Donnie is actually terrible at making bracelets lmao while mikey has wristfuls of them
Donnie: âI donât understand! Iâm following the blueprints exactly!â
Mikey: âThe... instructions?â
Donnie: âWhatever! How are you making those so fast? You donât even have that many friends!â
Mikey: âPhysical therapy is a hell of a time, my brother.â
Sweets: âIs Donnie being ableist again?â
Mikey: âI do believe he is.â
Donnie: âI am autistic!â
Sweets: âBless you.â
ORIGINAL CONFESSION
And it all starts like most things in your life do: a silly mistake.
âDonnie,â you whined. You were working on your physics homework at his desk while he was soldering a new motherboard for the Turtle Tankâs controls.
âLittle pest,â he mimicked your tone without looking up. He kept on soldering as you stared at him, not a care in the world.Â
âWould you be so kind as to look over my work for this problem? Iâm following the steps but Iâm not getting the right answer.â
âMmm,â Donnie said. At that moment, a spark flew from his project and caught his exposed cheek. He flinched back, dropping his wire and soldering rod on the table and rubbing his face. You batted your eyes at him while he scowled.Â
âI donât know how, but I blame you for that.â
âI would *never*,â you teased. You pushed your chair to the side a bit so Donnie could stand next to you.Â
He moved his goggles to his head and put his left arm over the back of your chair, leaning over you. He parsed through your work for a minute and tilted his head down to tell you what you needed to fix.
It just so happened that you tilted your head up to ask him a question at the same time, the two of you meeting in the middle with a kiss.Â
Well, it wasnât so much of a kiss as it was the two of you accidentally brushing your lips together for a moment. Seconds, almost nothing at all.Â
But the way that Donnie looked at you when the two of you jumped apartâŚ
ThatâŚthat wasnât nothing.Â
You could almost laugh at the ridiculousness of this situation. You couldâve cracked a joke, played up your ridiculous game of pet names and intellectual bravado.Â
(To be honest, you almost did.)
But then you thought about the way Donnieâs lips felt against yours. You thought about the way youâd dream of that moment and then proceed to do everything in your power to banish those thoughts away. Your mouth hung open slightly as you looked up at him, trying to will yourself to do anything, anything at all.
Donnie ended up making that decision for you. That oh, so familiar churring started emanating from his chest. He took your face in his hands, looking into your eyes for just a hint of confirmation before leaning in for a real kiss.
Oh.
*Oh*.
(Yeah, you could get used to this.)
There was nothing more you could do than press yourself against him, against his touch. You felt him smiling into the kiss, pressing you down into the chair.Â
Donnie was *everywhere*, like he was trying to encompass you. His hand moved to your hair, the other to your hip. You smiled when you remembered his adoration for your love-handles all that time ago. You traced along his plastron, making nonsense shapes and mapping out every scar.
He was so responsive. The chirring increased tenfold for every touch to his chest, every soft bite you gave his lips. You recalled all the times he would make noises from you touching along his shell. You pressed your hands fully against him, doing your best to draw out more and more of those sounds.
What Donnie lacked in experience he made up for in enthusiasm. He followed your lead, matching your pace every step of the way. You licked along the seam of his lips, gasping as his mouth opened for you. Donnieâs tongue against yours was tentative, shy even. You did everything in your power to ease Donnie into deepening the kiss.Â
When he moved from your lips and started kissing down your throat, your soul could have left your body right there. He was soâŚ*gentle*.Â
Donnie always has been. From when he was slinging his arms around you to kicking your ass in sparring, Donnie has never failed to treat you with care and reverence.Â
You feel it now, with every soft bite he gives you, every gentle peck behind your ear.
Donnie pulled away from you after what felt like decades. (Never enough, it would never be enough.) You leaned forward after him, trying to close the space he was creating. He looked bashful.
âThis might be the proper time to tell you that I have a massive crush on you,â Donnie said. His face was fraught with nervous determination.Â
âYeah, no fucking shit,â you said. You stood up from the chair and used your body to push Donnie against the desk. You wrapped your arms around his shoulders, pulling him down to your height.
âIâve been wanting to kiss you for forever, can we get on with it?â you said, looking into his eyes. Donnie turned bright red.
âButâ you? Do you?â Donnie stammered a bit.
âDonnie,â you deadpanned, crowding into his space, âIâve had a crush on you for a year, thanks for noticing. Will you *please* lean your face down a bit so I can reach it?âÂ
Donnie looked at you a bit incredulously, like you were a problem he didnât know how to solve yet. He made quite a picture, all red faced and calculating with a dumb half-smile while he looked at you. But, giving in, he put his arms around you and leaned in to kiss you again.
âAye, aye, captain.â
You smiled into the kiss, humming with contentment.
He likes you.
He likes you.
â
Aaaaand some random headcanons because I love you guys and I am truly so thankful to this kickass community <3 I truly do not know where I would be without the support yâall have given me.
Donnie has a hella oral fixation
NOT IN A KINKY WAY (most of the time) But as an autist, Donnie do be biting
One of his biggest shows of trust if he bites you while just chilling
Like if donnie is big spoon, he just nom on a shoulder and stay there chillin
Or if reader is body pillow, heâll lean around and bite their bicep
Good sensations
Donnie draws on eyebrows every day, he for sure would be very good at doing intricate makeup on reader
Gently holds their chin up, concentrated as hell while reader blushes like mad
Donnie keeps getting banned off of roblox
Didnât matter tbh, he knew how to hack into it to get his account reinstated
Also makes money off of roblox??
never explains to Sweets, very suspicious
Sweets likes to kiss along donnieâs neck/where his battle shell usually sits
The word here is reverence
Donnie is egotistical, but that doesnât mean he doesnât have insecurities about being a mutant turtle and you being a human
Lots of tracing along his arms, his face, his shell
Donnie likes his coffee to be half coffee, half milk to cut down on bitterness. Sweets is a tea drinker normally, but opts for coffee when they canât focus (which ends up being most of the semester).
Sweets drinks black coffee when theyâre on the struggle bus
To quote them, âBlack coffee canât hurt me more than Calc II already hasâ
But they prefer two creamers and two sugars when they have it in their dorm.
Thatâs all, congrats on making it to the bottom of this long ass post lmao <3

Okay okay... i cried
Reaching Out
This episode means soooo much to me (and to the fandom as a whole)
I was soooo curious to see how Luz charged her phone in the Demon Realm and was so excited to finally find it out
Alsoo... Grom picture!!! And Luz with Camila 𼺠love this little nightstand thingy
Yeaaa that's exactly how i'd imagine her texting, too; Luz being Luz. And i love her for it
Also Hunter got Penstagram and uses it like our parents use social media but he really slayed with that pfp
And he's a fan of King's book. Love this little detail
Okay i am... so totally normal about this
Amity wants to connect with her father through smth he did too. She wants to have smth to bond over with him and get him to spend time with her. All of that to be thrown out the window bc Alador doesn't realise the true meaning of all of this
I said it in a post a while ago but this is smth i can relate to a lot. I also try to connect with my own dad through music and every time an older song comes on that i like, i proudly tell him that i listen to it too and he just. Doesn't really say anything. Or when i say i'm like him in a few things, it seems to mean nothing. This has many reasons, i believe, but all i really wanted to say is that i'm so so grateful for this issue to be shown and talked about
Still the same thing. Amity wants her father to be proud of her and acknowledge her for smth SHE wanted to do. So deep, so meaningful.
Lumity being in love <3
And i also have to mention the twins here. First off, they're icons, i love them. Second, without their concealment stones, Ed and Em actually show their distinct personalities and their outfits are comfy, not so formal. And they don't seem to be pressed about hiding their imperfections either, probably bc Odalia is not present. I mean... ofc, she's the one forcing them to always be perfect
Supportive girlfriend and siblings!!!
I can't even EXPRESS how much i love the fact that Ed and Em are actually good siblings. It's just... so precious.
When this scene came on, my love and understanding for this guy just kept growing. We didn't have to see how he was being treated at home, it was enough for him to say "i probably messed up again, i can't do anything right" and we understood him. He tried to help and give his best but his efforts were not appreciated and soon he realised he could do anything, and it would never be satisfactory. He just wanted someone to appreciate him and be proud of him. Like Amity. And probably Emira too, but that's a different story (her being the oldest and therefore carrying the weight of silently doing whatever her mom tells her and never EVER showing imperfections just SPEAKS TO ME. and yes, okay, Amity was forced into this too. I am not ignoring her, bc ofc i'm not, but hey, Em grew up in the same toxic household and she didn't have it easy either)
So back to Edric. Now he found someone who appreciates his efforts and accepts his help. He feels useful and like his whole existence isn't just about cheering from the sidelines after all. He could do great things too. Bc ofc he can!
Bonding with King!!
Over the wish to be taken seriously. Again... Deep.
Aaaand Blight father came to ruin the moment
It's actually amazing and shows how strong Luz and Amity got over the course of the show, that they got to the final round of the brawl. I'm proud of them
Also... Alador, pls get some sleep
Well, this calls for a reblog! I'll be back soon ^^

Henry is 7 â Unloved Boys, Killer Parents, and Non-Linear Time.
I'm not sure how many of us out there are up to date on our "media that features Captain Midnight" lore, but tonight I want to talk about Jeffty is Five, a short story by Harlan Ellison, as it relates to Henry Creel circa 1952.
Jeffty Kinzer and his best friend, Donny, were five. They were huge comic book fans, especially of Captain Midnight. But then Jeffty was five, and Donny was seven. After that, Jeffty was five and Donny was fourteen. You see where I'm going with this, no? Jeffty is perpetually five years old.
Because of his peculiarity, his parents resent him.
Jeffty's mother, Leona, specifically, dislikes him most...to the point she wishes he'd died as a baby.
Jeffty, for his part, is a good kid, despite the barely-hidden dislike he's shown. He has a secret hideout under the porch of his house, where he draws, reads comics, and listens to radio shows.
There's something strange about Jeffty, though (aside from the not-aging, and specifically linked to his not-aging). He can bring new pieces of the past into the future. Discontinued radio shows have new episodes, discontinued comics have new issues, and new merch is made for shows that no longer exist.
Specifically, Ellison writes about Jeffty bringing a brand-new Captain Midnight Secret Decoder Code-O-Graph into the future:
Donny talks about how living these new-past experiences via Jeffty thins the membrane between worlds, between Past and Present.
There's a problem, though. Exposing Jeffty to the Present eats away at him. In an attempt to hurry Jeffty away from the Present, Donny sends him off by himself to get tickets for the movie they're meant to see. Along the way, Jeffty gets roughed up by some older teens. Instead of taking him to a hospital, Donny takes him home to his parents.
Spotting the chance to take back a normal life and live in the present...Leona kills Jeffty in the family bathtub, playing present-day rock music over the radio.
Now, something I was struggling to answer in my big Time Loop Post was the question of "What happened in 1952, when Henry was 7?"
Jeffty, Joseph and Joseph, Henry and Henry: Changelings
Jeffty's now-grown friend, Donny, misses the way things were in the '50s, when he and Jeffty were little. He'd like things to go back to the way they were...
...and he gets that through Jeffty's time-bending powers.
Jeffty has a hideaway spot in his family home where he hides away from his resentful, fearful mother to draw, read comics, and listen to the radio:
Jeffty, whose mother wishes he'd died as a baby because he's precluding her from having a "normal" life...
And who killed him in a bathtub.
Another detail to addâPatty asks Henry if he isn't a little old to be as obsessed as he is with Captain Midnight, as if being a fan is something for little kids.
I'd like, then, to put this is all in concert with:
The Creel-Carmichael parallels per Changeling (1980), wherein Joseph, a disabled boy who's resented by his father, Richard, is locked away in his attic. Richard drowns Joseph in a bathtub at age 6, and replaces him with a "normal" boy. This "normal" boy is mostly convinced he's the real Joseph Carmichael until the end of the movie.
2. Em's Doppleganger TFS Henry theory (which suggests that at some point Henry was replaged with a dopple-gorgon who almost believes he's the real Henry Creel). 3. Em's post about Before I Wake (wherein a little boy drowns in a bathtub and is replaced by a new boy with strange abilities). 4. (A post I have yet to make, regarding) Parallels between ST and the show Servant, wherein a new mother accidentally kills her newborn son, Jericho, by forgetting him in a locked car during a heatwave. She's given a hyperrealistic baby-doll as a replacement in order to cope, which their nanny Leanne magically transforms into a real baby boy. ST5's code name is Jericho, and other parallel to the series include (but are not limited to): psychic powers, spiders, stalker cults, murderous yet somehow well-meaning nannies, and giant cracks opening up in the earth (psionically).
Thus, my hypothesis: I wonder if we aren't dealing with a matryoshka-doll-meets-Fringe type situation, wherein Henry died/was killed at age 7, was replaced by or swapped for another boy (like Peter Bishop...staring directly at Peter Owens/Peter Ballard) via the 1979/1952 incident, and then was swapped again with a doppleganger via the 1956 gate.
#pure speculation in the hypothesis bit...but *no doubt* in my mind that Jeffty is Five was an inspiration for Henry's backstory#st: tfs#Jeffty is Five#henry creel

Big Time Double Date - Mickames
i don't really have anything to say about this one. just that this is one of my all time favorite btr eps. i wish they did more bottle episodes, or rather more episodes where everyone was all in one place with intertwining plots. also, jett was the best part of this episode hands down! i loved all his scenes!
@partiallypearl @raging-violets @witchofinterest @myloveforhergoeson
------
Mickey heaved a sigh of relief when the broom closet door closed. She rested her back against it, eyes darting from side to side. The last thing she wanted was to get caught; sheâd lose her job over this! Not that she really needed the job, being in a band tended to help with a lot of expenses but she wanted to keep it.
She loved picking up shifts at Chez Fancee when she wasnât busy. Being in the thick of a dinner rush, creating delectable French cuisine, and providing a great experience and lasting memories for the guests gave her a rush nothing could touch. Performing onstage in front of thousands of people came close. And yet here she was putting it all on the line to make sure her friend had a great date.
They canât say I donât do anythinâ for âem!
âKatie, I love your style, but knocking him out was a little much I think,â Mickey commented when Katie rushed around the corner. A tree hat sat atop of her head, accompanied by leaves and fronds hanging off her clothes. If she stood still long enough people could mistake her for a plant.
âItâs just a dinner roll, heâll be fine,â she said with a dismissive wave of her hand.
âIf that knocked Henri out, I donât think he will be,â Mickey said, glancing over her shoulder at the closed door. She didnât have much time to think about Henri and his apparently compromised health or balance due to a hissing by her ear. Katie and Mickey both looked in the direction of the sound. A second later James popped his head around the corner, his short hair slicked to his head.
âPssssssst!â he hissed again, louder.
âKeep a look out,â she told Katie. Katie gave her a thumbs up sign and Mickey rushed around the corner, glancing back to ensure the manager didnât catch her. He was a nice guy, especially for giving her a shot with her unpredictable schedule. She didnât want to ruin that. But then again, on the flipside, she didnât want Carlos to have a bad date with Jennifer 3. Jennifer 3 was very nice once you got to know her. And Mickey had total hair envy when it came to Jennifer 3.
âHelp!â James hissed once Mickey got within reach of her.
Mickey came to a stop, blinking rapidly while looking him up and down. âWithâŚwith what?â She asked because, well, it couldnât be with how he looked. He looked good. James always looked good, but he looked good. She actively had to remind herself to keep her jaw from dropping. Her momma always said to never underestimate the power of a guy in a suit, and she was not kidding. With Jamesâ slicked hair and his nice clothes, he looked as if he were ready to film scenes in an old Hollywood movie. The only thing missing was a cigar nestled between two fingers.
âThe guys are here!â he replied, tugging the bottom of his tuxedo jacket.
Mickey made a face, shifting the tracks of her mind from James on the glossy pages of GQ to the issue at hand. God, she hoped he didnât notice the heat pooling in her cheeks. âWhich guys?â
âAll of them! Kendall and Jazz are here with Kelly andâŚsome guyââ
âOh, thatâs Owen!â Perking up, Mickey breathed easier. This was a safe topic. âHeâs our UPS guy. They were supposed to be going somewhere elââ
âAnd Loganâs here with some girl who looks like him and Camilleâs here with Jett!â James continued, his voice kicking up a notch.
âOkay, thatâs not too bad. âŚI gotta ask her about that later but thatâs not too bad.â Honestly, she could do better than Jett. And werenât she and Logan just together that morning? Mickey made a mental note to ask Camille about this whole situation later. Her dramatics would certainly make the story interesting, and something told her sheâd need a good story after a long night. But damn they were more topsy-turvy than a see-saw!
âGustavoâs here too!â
Mickey gasped. âOooh, thatâs bad!â
âI know!â James cried out, fiddling with the untied bowtie hanging around his neck.
âHeâs supposed to be watching his blood pressure,â Mickey continued.
ââŚThatâs kind of not the pointâgah!â The end of his sentence chopped off due to him tightening the bowtie loop around his neck. His eyes bulged and his tongue stuck out, his fingers scrambling for the loop knot heâd made. Seconds passed and red grew in his cheeks. âMickeyâŚMickey, help!â
âOh my god! Stop, stop, let me do it!â Mickey slapped his hands away and stepped closer, yanking the knot away from his neck. His chest heaved with his deep breath and she swallowed the lump rising, watching the fabric stretch across it. Focus! Gathering her wits, she pulled the bowtie apart, letting the two ends lie parallel to his neck. Smoothing the ends between her fingers, she took in a Cuda-scented breath through her nose and began to let her fingers fly in practiced ease. Doing her best to ignore the rise and fall of his chest, Mickey clicked her tongue. âYou can tie a necktie, but you canât tie a bowtie?â
âMama Knight usually does it for me.â
The simple sincerity in his answer made her take pause, her fingers fumbling before they stilled. Nose wrinkling, she pulled the half-knot apart and started again. âThatâs nice of her.â
âYeah, sheâs really cool.â
She gave the finished bowtie a few tugs making sure it held tight and smoothed her hands down his chest. His heart beat hard beneath her fingers. Her eyes flew open wide and her lips parted and pushed out a squeak before backing away, directing her eyes to the floor, dropping her arms to her sides. âSorrysorrysorry!â Her apology slammed together, falling off her tongue faster than she could form the words. If James said anything she didnât hear it, didnât want to hear it. The further away she kept him, the better. In fact, she managed to form some semblance of a sentence, telling him sheâd be right back, before rushing off. She ducked behind the host stand when her manager and a few servers walked by, carrying large trays. It was where she wanted to go anyway. She tugged the box of items that had been left behind by patrons, rummaging through it until she found what she needed. With a triumphant grin, she hurried back to James. Along the way she grabbed an extra apron from the entryway to the kitchen; it fluttered behind her like a cape.
âOkay, tie this around your waist,â she said, a little breathless, once she reached him. âKeep a booklet in your pocket to take orders.â
âI canât take orders!â James said, doing as he was told. A few quick twists of his fingers and the apron lay against his waist. âIâm not an actual server!â
âI know, but youâre going to take Carlos and Jenniferâs orders. And by that, I mean itâs already written. I picked out the best dishes for them. Pretend to take their orders and bring the paper to me. Iâll make sure the food is perfect and out on time.â
âOh.â James took the notebook out of the pocket and opened it up. âYou have nice handwriting.â
âThank you.â Mickey sucked in a breath, blinked, and got her mind back on the topic at hand. âKatie will be running interference. Check on them every now and then. If you need anything, Iâll be right behind those doors. Now, howâs your French?â
âHuh?â
âFrench. Do you know any French?â
Jamesâs eyes lifted to the ceiling as he thought for a moment. When he looked back down, a light had ignited behind his eyes. âVoulez vous couchââ
âStop it.â Mickey squeezed her eyes shut as she thrust out her palm, blocking his words.
Jamesâs shoulders rounded. âSorry.â
âForever.â
âGot it.â
Honestly, why was that always someoneâs first answer? They needed to get more material. Whatever. She had more things to worry about. Waving her hands in front of her, she wiped his slate clean. âForget it. Howâs your French accent?â
âOui oui, hon hon, try ze baguette.â
Her eye twitched. ââŚClose enough. Just keep that up and keep your face hidden and we should be fine. Just, one more thingâŚâ She reached upwards and he obediently leaned forward, moving in sync. She pressed a large, fake mustache against his top lip, keeping a firm hold for a few seconds. Once secure she slipped a pair of glasses over his nose and took a step back, looking at him with new eyes. It was so unfair he looked good in glasses too. Her big reading glasses probably would look good on him too, on her they made her look like a nerd. Well, she was a nerd to a degree, but the glasses didnât help. She clapped her hands together, the sharp sound making James jump. âOkay, team, weâre all set! Remember, weâre doing this for Carlos.â
âFriendship powers, activate!â James announced, pointing a triumphant finger in the air.
âIâm not doing it this time,â Katie said with a shake of her head, making James pout. Mickey jumped in, easily executing the odd handshake James had come up with, doing her best to ignore the spark at her fingertips upon their hands touching. Heâd been working on it for weeks, mostly with Carlos and sometimes with her, noting itâd only be brought out when they really needed it. And Carlos really needed them.
The group split up with James holding his arm up to his face, looking much like Batman with his cape draped up to his face. With a few quick flicks of her wrist, Mickey cuffed the sleeves of her dress shirt, only catching the smirk on Katieâs face at the last second. âYou two looked cozy,â Katie all but sang.
âShut up, Katie,â Mickey grumbled. âYouâre the one who didnât want to do the handshake.â
âBecause itâs dumb. I donât know why you encourage those idiots.â
âIâm beginning to wonder that myself.â Deep down Mickey knew. It was because they were fun, and they were her friends. Back home she only really had her sisters as friends. And, yeah, maybe they all came along just because of their connection to Kelly but she loved the guys. They made her life interesting. She wouldnât have fun like this back on the East Coast. She and her sisters had their own kinds of adventures but the adventures sheâd been having out here with them were on another level.
âDo you really think Jennifer 3 could be the girl for him?â Katie spoke up after a moment of silence.
âI think heâs trying hard,â Mickey said slowly, âand he shouldnât have to try hard. So, as long as we get him relaxed, anything could happen.â She bit her lip, peering past Katie to see Carlosâ and Jenniferâs table nearby. âHeâs very sweet. Any girl would be lucky to have someone like him. They just have to notice.â
Shrugging, Katie went to blend in with the plants. Mickey ran her hands over her hair, smoothing down any stray kinky curls, blowing out a breath. She caught Jamesâ eye from across the room. He grinned and held up his hand, wiggling the shaka sign. Their secret way of communicating, checking if everything was okay. She smiled and waved the sign back.
If there was one thing she learned about being around them, everything would work out the way it needed to.
She may as well sit back and enjoy the ride.

How would you rank each season and why? What did you like and dislike about them?(Including wildbrain if you want to)
ooooooooooh okaaaaaaaay fiiiiiiiiiiiiiiine
*cracks knuckles* Just remember you asked for this
Buckle up bastards and bitches, we're tearing this shit apart!!! Going from worst to best so we can end on good taste!!! *loads my opinions into a bazooka like Lloyd with an Ice Cannon*
Rebooted- *drags hands down face* ....I really don't actually hate NS3, but as I mentioned on another post, a lot of things this season tried to pull off (read: practically everything) at least one other season did better. And I know it's not really this season's fault that it's such a mess, since it was whipped up in a whirlwind of unexpected serendipity, and it had less time to explore its ideas, but when people only truly remember and constantly bring up the worst parts about it, rather than few (if not far inbetween) good things that it brought to the table? Or people consistently straight up forget other things about it (primary shoutouts to Techno!Wu and the ninja going to literal space???) Yeah, probably not a great season overall.
Pros: Fun aesthetic, wasn't afraid to try new things, attempted to expand and build on previously introduced ideas, did well with the emotions and aftermath generated by Zane's sacrifice, Pixal, killer music, X-1 Ninja Charger, Sensei Garmadon, had the agenda of getting people back into Ninjago after it supposedly hit its grand finale and did succeed in that if nothing else Cons: Absolutely breakneck pacing to the point that its hard to recall what happens where, when, and even why, you could literally take out like 3-4 of the episodes (half the season!!!) and very little would be ultimately impacted, poor execution of: the established character arcs, dynamics, and motivations within the season (with exception of Garmadon); the attempts at further world building; and the ultimate impact of the antagonists (...people rave about Cryptor but he doesn't even really do anything!! And why did they need to bring the Overlord back at ALLâif this was really something of a Zane-centric season, Cryptor would've already been the perfect foil for him!! AND WHY PYTHOR. I AIN'T ACTUALLY MAD ABOUT THAT TBH BUT WHY THEN)
Hands of Time- This season's biggest issue is that it's...boring. Technically doesn't even do anything wrong, but even when trying to follow a mystery as big as what the heck happened to Nya and Kai's parents, or watching Lloyd begin to come into his own as a future master, or exploring the downfall of two ex-Elemental Masters who turned to evil...it comes off so...stilted and stale. Literally an episode is called 'The Attack'. The whole show is full of attacks, this gives me nothing!!! (But, to be fair, most of the other ep titles this season are pretty kickass). It's like NS6 in the way that a bunch of things happen (and not even nearly as incoherently) but 85% of it doesn't have any lasting or satisfying pay off, and most of it doesn't really mesh in a natural way either. A lot of it feels very contrived, with events happening just for the sake of it happening, and that probably contributes to why it's not quite as compelling as other seasons, despite absolutely having the foundation to be.
Pros: Has an interesting way of drawing parallels between several characters, added a good chunk of lore that generated fresh interest, Kai and Nya Sibling duo, introduced villains with unique motivations and complex history with the main character (directly or indirectly), Jay got that cool bike moment, getting to meet Ray and Maya, actually mention of Skylor being a "bad guy" previously and exploring some of her insight of that, previous EM info + flashbacks, Cons: ...executes a lot of the best things about it in such bland and unsatisfying ways, and could have been much tighter with tying its events all togetherâwould've helped the ending (whether it was a "cliffhanger" or not) feel a lot more deserved and less....empty.
(Also not a real con for the season itself and its literally just a nitpick but I hate those outfits. How are they simultaneously overly-detailed yet so monotone??? There's no pleasing contrast nor a place for the eye to comfortably rest! How are my eyes to last beholding a season with THAT fashion?? This is literally the only time where the gi are a distraction to me because they're...clunky, in a way? But...y'know, given that impression, I suppose they do fit the season to a t, thenâ *bricked*)
March of the Oni- This season is like a collections of puzzle pieces for a good finale season...but, someone lost a few pieces from the box. Or a lot of them. Isolated, there's a lot of good bits that could've really thrived in a normal season format...but, once again, the limited number of episodes strangled the potential out of its own plotline, SO. Plus, it feels extra weak following off the heels of Hunted's already high stakes, and with these stakes supposed to be even higher, it just doesn't quite hit in the way it's supposed to. That being said, there's a lot of fun and/or intense character dynamics and moments interspersed throughout, and the ending was so cozy and bittersweet but lovely that I can't be too upset with it. It stuck the landing it wanted to, and I can respect that!
Pros: Very strong character moments, (mostly) well-placed use of nostalgia, beautiful music, and overall a suitable little wrap up to "Masters of Spinjitzu" Cons: Not enough room/time to let some plot points breathe (a problem common to a few other seasons as well), and the antagonists could have done more, especially given their previous build up.
The Island- I don't even really count it as a season but it's going here. It was just...okay. Not actually all that bad, but not out-of-this-world great either. Laid the foundation for lore expansion for Seabound which is appreciated, utilized the characters well (EXCEPT RONIN WHAT THE FUCK NO), and again, I can respect it for what it was trying to do. Just didn't do anything that really stuck with me in a mind-blowingly positive way.
Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu- Kiiiiinda wish this season was strictly about "Forbidden Spinjitzu and it's secrets", rather than the "Forbidden Spinjitzu" leading to...assorted shenanigans. Could've made for a good Wu season, honestly. Also kinda wish they'd taken the concepts for the Fire and Ice Chapters and made them into more focused stories on Kai and Zane (especially if they were going to go on and do or attempt that exact thing for Jay, Cole, Nya, and Lloyd properly). Wishing aside, while there was a bit of a lull getting things started, the excitement did pick up soon enough. This season did eventually introduce some fun twists, (mostly) enjoyable character dynamics, and having a little lighter of an adventure until it wasn't after MotO was a refreshing change of pace.
Pros: Lots of individual moments to dig into and get invested in, a nice expansion on the lore of Wu's past + other realms beyond Ninjago, Cons: A little hard to initially get into, and can be even harder to keep wanting to push through and watch to the end. Both the Fire and Ice Chapter have points where they feel a bit "aimless" in their middle portions of their acts, and the season as a whole simultaneously feels like it's longer than it needed to be + didn't always use the time it had efficiently.
Legacy of the Green Ninja- Fellas as I've been finishing up my planning for Legacy!S2, I have to confess this Season isn't quite the masterpiece we remember it as snksnksnksnk. There's literally 2-3 episodes that are ENTIRELY pointless, and none of them are even the """"filler"""" ones. It felt like it was trying to be a wacky shenanigan-of-the-week thing and a "dramatic world-ending thriller adventure" at the same time in both halves of the season, and that didn't always pan out in its favor, giving this season a bit of a lost/confused identityâespecially one that so explicitly implicates Lloyd as being important, and yet most of the episodes are spent following the escapades of the Core Four still (which is not inherently a bad thing, but WHERE'S THE SO-CALLED LEGACY?!?! WHERE'S THE GREEN NINJA?!) ........anywho, negativity-fueled-by-recency-bias aside, even its short-comings still make for a highly enjoyable watch and rewatch, which isn't something that can be easily said for the previously mentioned seasons. And, there is still a LOT of funny, heartwarming, heartbreaking, and downright epic moments! But, not always immediately memorable ones.
(but also like please you have to UNDERSTAND there's literally a scene during the final battle where Wu, Misako, and Julien are on the ultra dragon and one of em's like "WE HAVE TO HELP" and, i swear i timed this this is legitimately accurate, TWO SECONDS LATER they make like two wing flaps going nowhere and Wu or Misako's like "THIS AS FAR AS WE GO" LIKE WHAAAAAAT?!?!?!!?! HELP LMAO)
Pros: Easy to get into, easy to keep watching, god-level music, and the simple ass humor still makes me laugh like a lunatic all these years later ("O'GRANDMA???" "I can make a little extra if I do the human piĂąata." "BEQUEATH! BEQUEATH!" *wordlessly using Zane as a battering ram* *the entire absurdity of Wrong Place, Wrong Time* *Dareth's existence*) Cons: The inconsistency of its overall direction still gives me whiplash all these years later, and I wish it had better embraced a singular identity, as that probably would've helped immensely both with character focus and the at times odd pacing of the plot.
Prime Empire- Finally, some good food! Similar to SotFS, this season took a while to kickstart and find its groove and keep it, but by the end it was sooooo much off-the-walls fun that it's hard to actually hate it. Lots of missed opportunities to expand on Jay's character though, especially when those Prime Empire shorts primarily focused on Jay released alongside the season would've been GREAT to see in actual episodes, and probably could've been what tipped it higher onto this list. While what we did get towards the end was super cool, it would've have MUCH more impact if it had better prior buildup. But, this season is incredibly solid in ways that may not be immediately obvious, though does still a bit to be desires at times too.
Pros: Fun and glorious setting for adventure, some very potent and very memorable character moments, SUPERSTAR ROCKIN' JAY, and a very strong finish that still gets me buzzed when it think about it. Cons: Slow start, many missed opportunities, left me wanting just a bit more (in the not-good way) despite the satisfying finish.
Crystalized- *folds hands in front of face* I probably should put this lower than Prime Empire overall quality-wise, but idk man, Crystalized scratched a lot of my personal itches...and also sent me banging my head into a wall, so. While I genuinely, honestly did enjoy my time with this season (I laughed, I cried, I "what the fuck"ed), there's the other half of my mind that just couldn't stop questioning sooooooo many decisions for the direction of the main characters, and constantly doing so did take me out of it way, way too often. For something that was going to serve as (another) big, grand send off...this one may have stuck the landing better than Hands of Time, but. IDK. Something still felt off at the end of everything.
Pros: (Mostly) incredible fight scenes, and action moments, we got to see perspectives of certain character dynamics that hadn't been explored before or not as often, there really is a lot of cool shit in here, loved the return of so many old faces, honestly very enjoyable if you're able to turn your brain off just a bit Cons: WHAT THE HELL DID THEY DO TO NYA, WHY ARE Y'ALL SLEEPING SO HARD ON THE PERFECT OPPORTUNITY TO FINALLY GIVE LLOYD SOME REAL ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT THAT MADE SENSE, IF YOU WERE REALLY PLANNING ON "REDEEMING" HARUMI WHY DIDN'T YOU PACE IT OUT BETTER, WHY ARE THE CORE FOUR NEAR USELESS, DID WE REALLY HAVE TO SPEND A FOURTH OF THE SEASON IN A PRISON WAS THERE NO BETTER WAY TO GET OLD VILLAINS INVOLVED OR FOR RUMI TO INTIMIDATE LLOYD FROM THE SHADOWS, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF THE NEW NINJA, THERE'S SOOOO MUCH MISSED STUFF SURROUNDING NYA'S SACRIFICE/RETURN, AND WHY DID THEY SCRAP SO MANY ACTUALLY NEAT IDEAS FOR THISSSSSSS *dies*
Hunted- Gonna be honest, it's been a hot second since I've watched NS9 because everyone being in such distress stresses ME out just thinking about it (I'm apparently the people Jay was worried about lmao) and I haven't quite brought myself to subject myself to it again. However, I do remember it being an incredible watch and every episode bringing something epic to the table, and honestly I just see it as a sequel or a part 2 to SoG. Good music, strong character beats, satisfying in pacing all the way through; a great and surprisingly introspective season, just got outshined a bit by some of the pure spectacle and overall enjoyment of other seasons.
Not gonna give Pros/Cons here because I genuinely don't remember specificsânot because any of it was "Forgettable"; I literally just technically only watched it once snksnksnk. I know it's mostly nothing but good stuff with maybe a few snags here or there, but a superbly solid season.
Sons of Garmadon- Ah yes, one of two fan favorites. And a favorite of mine as well! Just...well, it's not really a Season I ever have the urge to go back to often, which is something the following seasons to come are about to have in common. It's got a rock solid plot, delicious twists, always kept me on the edge of my seat, had a lot fascinating locations and new lore...all wrapped up in a gripping entertaining time to be had. Though, it's kind of a season where you watch it once, are completely satisfied with, and then maybe only come back to it if and when you're rewatching the whole series (at least for meâthat being said, I've watched season 8 waaay more than I've watch season 9 snksnk).
Pros: Well-thoughtout plot, fully compelling antagonists, another shout out to the music, dared to take some risks as the show entered a new era, and for once everyone felt like they were contributing as a single group, which was nice to see until they weren't Cons: As stated, already a very solid season; it's just a few scenes that probably could've used some polish for extra impact in hindsight.
Way of the Ninja- Well, if I'm including the Island, might as well include the Pilots! It's only above Hunted/SOG here because *I* happen to like it more and have rewatched it a great many times haha. Honestly the only cons are that I wished we'd had some little adventures in the Ice Fortress/Floating Ruins, and that the ninja themselves had more of a presence in the ultimate confrontation with Garmadon. Otherwise the Pilots did an absolutely fantastic job of laying the groundwork for the show to come, and using witchcraft to hook many of us into adoring these characters with insane chemistry from the get-go with nothing but the bare minimum. Nothing but love and respect for my pilots! <3
Skybound- Only reason this is higher than the previous three on this list is because *I* personally enjoyed it more, that's all. For overall quality and consistency, Hunted, Pilots, and SoG clear it easily. ANYWAY I LOVE SKYBOUND. It's probably actually my second favorite season these days but I'm already about to be crucified for putting it this high on the list rip. Oh there's plenty of things wrong with this season: out of character moments including but not limited to misogyny, contradictory statements, contradictory actions, saying things they would never say prior to this season; the antagonist has wildly changing motivations almost every episode along with uncomfy tendencies, every episode feels wildly different and/or disconnected from the others, the things are happening all over the place at any given time...it's chaotic, messy, and I LOVE IT. It's a mess but it's my mess and if you dig deep enough there's a lot to love buried in the muck that I, as an individual, feel that makes the season worth it all <3
Pros: PIRATES, everything about Jay, Watching Jaya develop over the course of the season for better or worse, getting some insight into the other characters via the wishes they make, watching Jay get his moments to be the absolute badass and even Nadakhan acknowledging that (just with some horribly misguided but well-meaning intentions of the heart but he's HUMAN), the HUMOR, the Ninja Replacements and Jay getting to show off some leadership FINALLY, Jay whump, Lloyd's pirate impression, Lil Nelson!!!, Jay with an eyepatch, crashing a wedding, Echo Zane!, a commentary on how people perceive us and how we perceive ourselves can lead to great inner and outer conflict, pretty ass animation scenes esp for being in the earlier era, we got the greatest gi to ever grace our unworthy presence despite being folded the wrong way, did I mention Jayâ Cons: Literally everything stated previously and probably more I'm sure you already know. But also why did they randomly MAKE DARETH LIKE THAT GOOD LORD WHY this is on par with Ronin in the Island IS2G
Rise of the Snakes- The vintage classic!!! Not ~perfect~ by any means BUT it told a cohesive story while giving everyone (even including Nya!) a little bit of spotlight and some significance and brought it all together so neatly with emotion and FUN that of course it had the power to reshape our childhoods (or teenhoods. Or adulthoods. Or nowhoods). Really its biggest flaw is simply that it was first, thus of course having a little less polish and therefore had to pave the way for better seasons to follow, but it was still a mighty tough act to follow.
Pros: Many establishing moments for the main crew for their adventures to come, antagonists that were funny, threatening, and had some pretty convincing motivations, Lloyd, highly memorable overall, easy to jump back into, gave us the legendary Weekend Whip (unless that was in the credits to the pilots too i don't remember) Cons: A bit dated nowadays, and rough around the edges, but doesn't do anything inherently wrong either. I'd say the pacing is a little quick, but in this season in particular its masked so well that you really only notice if you're looking for it (which I had been)
Master of the Mountain- And now, the truly cream of the crop. NS13 was the thing we've always wanted and always knew we needed and finally the powers that be delivered. I could rave day in and day out about Cole finally getting some much deserved focus, but for as strong and heavy-hitting as his whole arc was, the stories of the other ninja pale a bit in comparison, leaving this season unable to break the top three. Otherwise a masterclass in storytelling. And Cole.
Pros: COLE SEASON, HYPE AF FIGHT SCENES, COLE'S MOMMY, VANIA, THE UPPLY, WU AND COLE DYNAMIC, ZANE THROWING ROCKS AT KAI, THE VOICE DIRECTION (esp Lloyd, Cole, and Kai), THE SUBTLE MYSTERY OF IT ALL, THE MUSIC, THE INTRIGUE, AAAAAAA Cons: NOT ENOUGH COLE, antagonist was a bit bleh (though those fight scenes he had SERVED), could have had a little better utilization of the characters outside of "Cole's crew"
Seabound- MMMMMMM EVERY SINGLE EPISODE HIT SO GOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!! NYA EATING FOR REAL!!! THE GODDAMN INSANE FIGHT CHOREOGRAPHY!!!! THE PEAK VILLAIN!!! THE MUSIC! THE EMOTIONS! THE PAPERGIRL! THE BENTHO! THE PILLOW MINT! THE CRUMBLING COOKIE! THE JAY ALMOST DYING FOR HIS FRIENDS! THE NYA BASICALLY DYING FOR HER FRIENDS! THE SILENT I LOVE YOU!!! THE UTTERLY GUTTING WAY IT ENDED AND LEFT ME COMATOSE FOR THREE DAYS!!!!! IT WAS SO BEAUTIFULLLLLLLL WHO GAVE THEM PERMISSION TO POP THIS HARD
Pros: *gestures wildly* Cons: It made me sad
Possession- Here we have the other fan favorite season, the bible for all people Morro-obsessed. Essentially the Seabound of the older era but with significantly less emotional devastation snksnksnk. Top-notch characterizationâthe Core Four have never been better with their dynamics, humor, and teamwork, it's the first real time Nya (and if we wanna be picky, Cole) get some dedicated introspective time, Lloyd is truly put to a very personal test, Ronin is there, and Morro serves as both a fantastic antagonist and a foil for all those he opposes. Simply isn't the top spot strictly because when I think of my favorite season...this ain't it, though it absolutely deserves to be.
Pros: THE CHARACTERIZATION FOR ALL, AMAZING ANTAGONIST, ALSO BEAUTIFUL ANIMATIONS, HUMOR AND HORRORS IN ONE GO, EXTREMELY REWATCHABLE, MOAR MUSIC, ENDED BITTERSWEET BUT WITH HOPE AND A SICKASS QUOTE Cons: Perhaps a touch overhyped but that's not actually the season's fault nor is it actually a con I just needed to put something here this thing is honestly airtight perfect when it comes to seasons gfgsfddfdhfkls
Tournament of Elements- yes. Yes. YEEEEEEES. To be fair this should be #3 or #4 overall quality wise MMMMMBUT I THINK ITS POTENCY CLEARS THE GAP! Season 4 ran so Season 5 could fly!!!! THE RECIPE FOR A PERFECT STORY, just, perhaps a touch undercooked, BUT THE INTENTIONS WERE FELT AND I VIBE WITH THEM H A R D
Pros: IN A SEASON WHERE THE VILLAIN DIVIDES PEOPLE WE LEARN THAT THERE IS STRENGTH IN KEEPING AND MAINTAINING MANY DIFFERENT KIND OF RELATIONSHIPS EVEN IF IT SEEMS HARD AND IMPOSSIBLE AND IN SPITE OF OUR DIFFERENCES AND EVEN IF WE DO FIND OURSELVES DIVIDED, WE SEE WE ARE STRONGER WHEN WE ARE ABLE TO COME TOGETHER AS ONE. THESE THEMES ARE SUPPORTED BY THE CHARACTERS, MUSIC, PLOT, THE ANIMATION OF THE EXPRESSIONS, AND I THINK THIS IMPORTANT OVERARCHING MESSAGE TRIUMPHS OVER EVERYTHING ELSE AS IT TRULY RESTS AT THE HEART OF NINJAGO AS A WHOLE *mic drop* Cons: Wish it delved just a bit more into the other EMsâwhat in the world have they all been up to??? Also wish the season ran with the tournament theme throughout the whole season rather than suddenly bouncing around in like the last three or so episodesâthat kind of killed its momentum when it needed it the most. But, it still definitely stuck the landing!

This is VERY UNLIKE ME, but here's some incredibly fast, EXTREMELY late-night meta on two dramas (Dangerous Romance and I Feel You Linger in the Air) from this TIRED mama, all before Only Friends later today!
(Y'all. I've missed being around this week! Moving and unpacking... I'll tell ya. It gets harder as I get older. Mostly because I/we have more stuff, and the BRAINS I need to figure out where this stuff should go is like, as mentally draining as it is physically draining to open boxes, unpack 'em, go up and down stairs -- damn. I have been COLLAPSING at night. Friends have been sending me meta to read -- @ranchthoughts, I see you, boo! <3 <3 The little peeks and breaks I've been getting have been giving me energy. I'm a little back on my bullshit now, and I can't wait to give Only Friends the full treatment tomorrow. But for now, quick notes!)
1) Dangerous Romance, episode 4: Listen, the friends covered a lot (here, here, and here -- @neuroticbookworm, @lurkingshan, @wen-kexing-apologist, all clowning correctly). WKA also notes that this show was written by Pratchaya Thavornthummarut and Bee Pongsate, two of the three writers of some of the best BLs ever -- Bad Buddy, My School President, Dark Blue Kiss, etc. When Bee and Pratchaya write WITHOUT Au Kornprom, as they did in BBS, MSP, and DBK -- things go a touch awry (cc @chickenstrangers, as we've talked about this before). Bee and Pratchaya, for instance, wrote Vice Versa, which I haven't watched, but I know the fam is mid on. (Remember when Aof Noppharnach had to come in to save 2gether by making Still 2gether? 2gether was written by Bee and Pratchaya -- Aof and Au joined in on the Still 2gether correction.)
ANYWAY, ALL OF THIS IS TO SAY that I should have been smarter about this show when I started in on it. It's directed in part by Lit Phadung, formerly of SOTUS, which is a fine show by nostalgia's standards! But like, not the height of drahmah.
So there's a lot of mid kinda swirling around here, and god, honestly, I'm kicking myself, because I should have been more sus. I should have been more sus!
Perth and Chimon are too good for this show. Not that I hate it! I don't hate the show, per se. It's just -- the first episode was so intense, so very issues-based, as all the dear friends noted, that to swerve towards a SUCH a gloopy romance plot was just... man, even SOTUS was WAY more clear in its plot than DR. (Dudes, I was chatting with @neuroticbookworm while I was watching this, and I was like, LOVE SICK HAD A MORE CONVINCING ROMANCE PACE THAN THIS. LOVE SICK!!!) DR is moving WAY too quickly towards the cheesiest of tropes, without the beef to back it up.
Anyway, from the energy vibes that Perth and Chimon are giving off, they should either 1) be making out by now, and/or 2) doing it by now, because like, WHOA, lots of staring, boys! LOTS of staring. And lemme tell ya, someone's staring at me like that, like in the clurb or something, and I'm like, yep, make-out time, right?! RIGHT?!
I am now officially watching this show, as I noted to @neuroticbookworm, literally to watch all the dear GMMTV celebs in here try to avoid a dumpster fire. (Where the hell is June?!) (At least Marc and Pawin are funny for like, the 10 seconds we see them.)
OH, ALSO?! What's the difference in Sailom becoming a sex worker vs. being bought out as a live-in tutor? Were we supposed to judge Sailom becoming an escort? Are we intentionally ignoring bias in socioeconomic gaps, writers? TOO MUCH TO ASK, TEAM! Too. much. to. ask.
I luv you, Perth and Chimon, I LUV YOU, BUT WHY. ANYWAY. MOVING ON.
2) I haven't written anything about I Feel You Linger in the Air yet because of LIFE (see above), and I was very wibbly about it when I started it, because you, your mother, MY mother, and MY MOTHER'S MOTHER all know about how sus I am on Tee Bundit (but I finally watched Lovely Writer and LOVED IT, so I am a touch less sus).
ANYWAY, thanks to the convincing of @lurkingshan and @neuroticbookworm to look past the slow pace of the first episode as accurate for a historical drama, I kept at it with IFYLITA. And I'm glad I did.
Now this? THIS IS A BL, BABY!
We got sexy typewriter scenes! Drawings of cutie widdle pigwets! Drunk falls! Red cheeks! Reading out loud! POETRY! FLOWERS! ENEMIES AND INTRIGUE! (I'm not happy about the marital rape, but unfortunately, I am thinking that is accurate for the time being portrayed.)
Admittedly -- god, Tee, the episodes are still a little long, my homey. A little long. BUT.
This show, as so many have noted, is just beyond gorgeous. The plumerias. I LOVE Ming and Maey. I LOVE THAT WE MAY HAVE A SAPPHIC SUB-PLOT.
But I also appreciate that only four episodes in, we haven't forgotten that this is a time travel show, in the midst of the budding romance. My thinking on that out-of-body experience on Jom's part was Jom flirting with consciousness after the present-day car crash. But who knows.
I like that Jom is making the connections with those drawings he found in that chest -- and that, lol, he was asking Prik questions about the architecture. Even though Yai's dad seems like a bad dude, I have faith that Tee Bundit is going to keep Nu Surasak going as a good BL dad/dude -- fingers crossed.
I am just -- I am loving where this show is going to go. The house is worried about Yai. I like the way the scent about Yai's preferences is a lot more muted in 1920s Thailand than it would be as set in the present-day. I just think that's totally accurate for what I would call an "old-fashioned" Asian perspective now. I'm very intrigued to see how a historical drama like this will wrestle with homophobia, as this is my first period BL, and -- I'm just excited to see where it'll go.
The acting is GREAT, the pace of the romance is GREAT, the pace of the filming is still slow, but I can't believe I'm saying this -- I'll continue to forgive it for now. Tee, please, PLEASE don't fail us, because you have something GREAT going on here. Yai, head over HEEEELLLLSSS for Jom, is just -- it's a wonder to see, and I am fully on this roller coaster palanquin ride.
(Also, hey, TWO DRAMAS where dudes were PAID to live with their crushes. K!)
(Oh, also, definitely, next time I'm at a clurb, in like, 20 years, I am definitely ordering an URN of liquor with a ladle. Like a baijiu urn. Fuck yeah. What a LOOK.)
(Okay, that's it, good night, see you for Only Friends!)

Watching A Pup Named Scooby-Doo cause it got added to max and I wanted to see if the quality was any better than the dvd copy, which after season 1 seems to devolve to VHS rip levels. And it turns out the answer is: yes and no in the most bizarre way.
Some scenes will be outright HD, while others have a distinct level of fuzziness, almost crt level. The title sequence in particular stays at a level of fuzz throughout, but the actual episodes seem to roll the dice before each cut to determine if they'll be fuzzy or crisp. It's outright hilarious tbh
Also, the max version is missing at least 6 episodes by my count, all of them in the last 3 seasons, which to me says that those eps are probably low quality throughout given I noticed outright color bleed on the dvd copy on a few of em.
I can't say for sure why this happens, but if I had to guess I'd say it's likely a result of A Pup Named Scooby-Doo being intermittently digitally colored. They probably scanned at a resolution that caused fuzz without them realizing cause of the monitors, or otherwise rendered it out that way (keep in mind this series ran from 1988 to 1991), and it didn't get caught, so the best masters they have are plagued with this issue
#scooby doo#m post#a pup named scooby doo#i will grab screenshots to show what i mean when i get home

Hey Rise, it's AK favorites time again. Give me your best defenders. Gameplay, personality, aesthetic, whatever.
Alrighty! Let's place this under a cut:
Launch Faves:
Spot - I see full kemono in Arknights I black out and go feral good yes very nice. That healing smokescreen remains very helpful, and he's just a real solid bro. His VA caught my eye too, since I was watching Raildex that year so I'd been hearing him quite a lot.
Cuora - Roaming baseball turtle is Fucking Invincible. HOMERUN!! Her module lore story was pretty nice in a sledgehammer-to-the-heart kinda way given it was her memory issues + her baseball&bat's origin. Incredibly solid and the first elusive 4-blocker saving our asses and storing up Pure Gold Ingots in the Factories. Homerun indeed.
Croissant - Really cool and fun character (we got her southern US drawl back hooray) with the interesting gimmick of being the push-stroker(they can never live this naming scheme down) defender. Problem? S2 says yeet 'em! No problem boblem. Niche and therefore undervalued at the earlygame, but Integrated Strategies with the Force+2 manual obtained must've made some fun shenanigans.
Gameplay:
All the Fortresses, honestly. They're great in character, in aesthetics and I greatly enjoy having their long-range bombardments. Firewhistle's brought us Burn procs and it's delightful to watch the bonus damage pour in. I can be trusted with the Londinium Self-Defense Artillery cannon emplacements.
Don't use 'em enough but they're fun: Duelist and Sentinels - Aurora is cute and has access to Cold proc manipulation tactics (plus that claw-shaped staked, slim tower shield is a work of art); Liskarm has been a faithful SP battery pistol-shooting down aerial threats while Blitz has the flashbang spam going for him.
Guardians are lifesavers, of course. Gummy's frying pan bonk stuns every third hit can actually be incredibly useful. Blemishine is a far better pick than Nearl due to her Sleep mechanics and yknow, 6* bulk/Skill 3 (she's cool to borrow as a support unit but I don't have her fully invested). Saria is pretty solid here and with regards to character&story, but at the same time I never actually E2'd her until mid-Dorothy's Vision because I finally experienced her Skill 3 and needed her to be beefier for a map clear (or several) that event.
General:
Horn - "YOU WANT TO TOPPLE ME?! BY WHAT?" Episode 9 was so great, and then we suffered a Manfred to the Self-Defense Artillery. That CG towards the end of Ep9 with a heavily-injured Horn pulling the S3 glare at Mandragora after auto-rocketjumping Bagpipe away was phenomenal. Incidentally a major part of why if you have taste you'll understand that Horndragora is the superior toxic yuri pairing rather than suffering that watery tart of a catgirl. I'm more enamored with that heavy-duty shieldcannon though, naturally. The Victorian Army gets all the cool gunlances eh? That VA olive green drab is a wonderful colour scheme too, really. The overheat flame vfx during S3 are a delightful detail on the chibi sprite and for that reason though I'll get that (somewhat mismatched) Lady of the Lake skin, I won't equip it often. But S1/S3 were absolutely outstanding during IS2.
Asbestos - The most tsuntsuntsuntsuntsuntsuuuuuundere foulmouthed foul-tempered vkei-ass Aussie salamander is just so iconic, bless her. Funky and rad design, personality and until Shalem appeared, the only Arts-shotgun shielder. Trying out her Skill 2 in IS2 was pretty fun since I only rarely used her prior honestly. The details gone into fitting her entire theming around asbestos are so so good.
Mudrock - Initially I wouldn't use her due to the 35dp cost buuuut I reached the point where 'This is fine actually' after a while of wanting to properly invest in her and yeah. Fucking incredible with sneak-healing via Perfumer. Spin2Win is forever relevant! We need a skin that brings back the full hazard suit towering over most other chibis though. Really good as a character, her parts in Twilight of Wolumonde were what made that event remotely bearable to me.
Her fellow Juggernaut companion Penance is likewise extremely good in aesthetics, character and as a unit.
Eunectes - Same deal as above, I actually haven't used her so badly she's not actually E2 yet. But I think she's incredibly gorgeous and a very cool Forgemaster. The Acahualla Trio are very, very fun! Summoning her upgraded Raging Ironhide must be a real lovely feeling given how much of a nuisance it is to fight.
Nian - Unemployed. Commando. The only Sui fragment I have at E2. Fellow spice fiend. Many noteworthy things can be said. I greatly enjoy her. We need to see more of the situation with training up Purgatory now going forwards in that storyline. Love that her E2 splash shows the(or at least, her) bestial Sui form has a maw in the chest.
Shoutout: Ace - He would've been male 6* Defender, absolutely, the way he tanked Talulah 1v1 during the Chernobog Exfiltration long enough for every surviving RI Operator to redeploy disengage & evacuate. Legendary guy. There's no Elite Operator covering the Defender class as a Temporary Recruitment in Integrated Strategies, so personally I feel like that's where he might've been.
#arknights#arbellas-bakery#defenderknights#perhaps still not as comprehensive as it could be but yeah wall of paragraphs k

Part 3 of my 911 watch through. My live reactions.
How strong are these fucking winds??? Because those people are GONE!
Back to Athena and her daughter...and she used her mom's meds lord have mercy.
All due respect to the daughter obviously because clearly it bothered her enough to try and od, but like if you are that depressed over your dad being gay wtf is wrong with you?
Damn okay never mind it's just a bunch of bitchy bullies. I hope karma gets em
CPS causing problems out here smh
This is episode 3 so I don't know how long they are supposed to be dating for but a MARRIAGE proposal seems a little fast.
She's gonna say no... I can feel it
Ope she's a cheater with commitment issues. Chimney I'm gonna be real with you, I don't think she's the one bud.
Oh shit people are yelling now, but Bobby does have a point. Lying is never a great foundation for relationships.
NOOOOO
I've seen final destination Chimney stop
WTF WHY DID THE DRIVER SWERVE BEHIND HIM?!
Why are they doing this plotline in the 3rd episode? Also he is surprisingly fine at the moment.
Dude you are in better shape than that car lol
Still no update on what that other driver was thinking or doing.
Okay... a lot of conflicting feelings on the hospice care plotline. As someone who went through similar events with my own family. You are allowed to ask for help, be frustrated, and take breaks. But you need to do what is best for them and you. Clearly she cares about her mom and facilities aren't always the best (aka elder abuse). If Abby thinks she can take care of her well to the end that's fine, but finding a good place for her and visiting often is also perfectly acceptable to. People don't need to put that guilt and pressure on themselves or others because it can be a difficult and complicated situation.
Back to the "fiance", I honestly don't blame her, but Bobby is right again, she should be there for him out of basic respect at least. Poor Chim tho, I hope he recovers okay. It's also nice to see them support him at the hospital.

Day 7 - Do you have any all-time favorite scenes? You can bring up multiple - an objectively good scene, a silly scene that makes you smile, a sad scene that makes you cry, maybe a scene that just sort of stuck with you⌠your choice!
i have a bunch ok i tried to put em in categories. under the cut bc i think torchwood's entered spin territory by now and i still cant seem to shut up about it. pls help
scenes that rot my brain
when they mutiny against jack in the s1 finale. that whole bit, from gwen with rhysâ body in the autopsy bay to owen shooting jack to when they trigger the emergency protocol and open the rift. ill never get over how it first felt to watch that whole scene for the first time, it drove me insane. it still drives me insane. ive watched it 300 times it's sooo đŠ MY scene. g-d.
well, thatâs my scene, and so are all the owen & ianto scenes in s1ep12. those two make me feral. ive gushed about theose scenes before, so ill spare u this time. my otp 4eva. and also owen having a villainous breakdown wahahaha. my fucked up little guy of all time
the scene where owenâs patching gwen up in countrycide drives me nuts. itâs such a clever seduction scene + itâs so intimate. i love it. (i also enjoy the two separate scenes where she chokes him fdhskjfdsf. countrycide tree scene makes me BLUSH and nothing makes me blush fsdkjfdshfkjdshfjkd. i am very very bi <3)
owen begging diane to stay in out of time... donât touch me. every time i think of that whole scene i wanna cry. i have never seen such sad eyes in my life. (see my tags here for more of my thoughts on this topic fkjsdfhs.) burn pay my fucking hospital bills
that moment between jack and owen at the end of combat... âfor a few seconds i felt totally at peace... and then you blunder in. do you always know best, jack? is that what you believe?â âi want you back at work tomorrow.â that scene has always driven me crazy. thereâs a few scenes in the show where jackâs monstrous and the others yell at him over it, but that one hits the hardest. owen just seems to actually cut through him in that moment, and it kills me.
the scene at the conference table in s2ep5. iâm not the biggest fan of that ep, i talked abt it more the other day, but that scene drives me bonkers, for a number of reasons⌠the insight into the characters (owens mommy issues!!! tosh n iantoâs need for purpose!!! gwen loves rhys AND jack!!!), for sure, but especially the way jackâs relationship with all of them is presented. ill talk about it a lot more when i discuss his character, but jack⌠reminds me of a cult leader, in a lot of ways, and itâs most prominent in that scene especially. the show doesnât realize itâs framing him like that, and the fandom doesnât seem to pick up on it either. but i do, and i think itâs fascinating.Â
gwen drugging rhys in combat. it just kind of blew my mind when i first saw it - there's a moment with every character where i went âoh wtf theyre fucked up. ok im obsessed nowâ (owen's was ghost machine, ianto's was actually âpray they surviveâ in meat, jack & tosh never had one for me which is probs why they dont rot my brain quite as much fhdskjf) - that was gwen's. also important to note burn gorman agrees w me bc on the commentary of this ep during this scene he was clapping n laughing n probably kickin his feet HFDKSJFHDSJKFDSK he gets me
all of fragments tbh esp owens portion but specifically ianto crying when he walks away from jack at the end of his segment, and owen crying when he's talking to the doctor + him n jack walking thru the cemetery. aaaa.
(yes those were almost all owen scenes. im the deranged owen guy rmr.)
scenes that make me smile
the very first scene in the hub in the pilot :) it just feels a little bit magical in an industrial, bleak, kitchen-sink sort of way, which is what i love sm abt tw, the way it occasionally strikes that balance. the way stepping into a big base in a sewer manages to still feel magical⌠thatâs special.
in episode 2 when theyre having lunch + in episode 4 when theyre at the bar, when theyâre all gathered around and laughing. ohh i wish we got more of that
every time gwen n owen are dumbass giggling besties, or teasing each other⌠twice in s2ep10, and in ep 7, and then when theyre fooling around at the beginning of s2ep2. i love themmmm those two are my idiots they make me smile
jack & johnâs fight in kkbb heheh
owen n martha gorillaz scene in reset. wahoo! shicka shicka shicka shicka feel good
bernies apt in ghost machine ep :) i just like the way they go through his shit, steal a bunch of it, n then leave, it always makes me giggle. âso call the copsâ JACK.Â
scenes that stuck with me / made an impact
john and his son in out of time. that was rlly rlly emotional.
also jack helping him off himself. g-d that episode was heart wrenching.
âcaptain my captainâ in tkks, suzie on the ground covered in blood⌠things i think about. âitâs all your fault, jack." ahhhh
in ghost machine, when gwen holds the device and sees herself crying and covered in blood, and afterwards sheâs all dazed and she looks at owen and he stares back and he looks dangerous. i loveee that scene. will never get over s1 owen. heâs a ticking time bomb and when he explodes he nearly destroys the world. character of all time to me. i love that he redeems himself in the end but ohhhhh sometimes i think of a world where he becomes a proper antagonist. he rlly walks the precipiceÂ
g-d and the scene where he had the knife held to ed morgan, when i first watched it i didnât know what he was gonna do and it was so tense.Â
when lisa was first revealed in cyberwoman and mogwai playedâŚ. transcendent. the outfit was silly right off the bat but the vibe + reveal was cool enough i was rlly excited. i love the concepts in that episode i wish they took it more seriously. no metal bikini + no pteradacyl fight and we couldâve had it all. but also. would it be torchwood without metal bikini + pteradacyl fight.
âit made me happyâ scene in countrycide. a lot of people seem to find that ep upsetting, i wasnât really affected by the subject matter, but That got me. chilling. you go into torchwood expecting evil aliens, so the episodes about evil humans really hit.
the resurrection scene in s2ep7. iâm getting tired so im not gonna babble as much but agh. i wanna eventually do an analysis on owen & jackâs dynamic - iâll talk about it there.
also, itâs a little moment but in the same episode, when gwen calls rhys crying⌠it reminds me of that bit in succession, during connorâs wedding, when tom calls greg, which is one of my favorite moments in that episode too. taking the time in the middle of a tragedy to step aside and privately call a loved one for support, bc u need a minute to break down when uve been doing ur best to stay strong. i think torchwood is bad at handling grief and letting their characters experience it, so itâs a nice little moment that actually lets her grieve. that, and the glove clearly triggers her, so she got double whammied with the death of a friend + the reminder of the time she nearly died. again, in a show that doesnât typically frame moments of weakness and pain very sympathetically, itâs refreshing.Â
idk why, but in ep7, when it goes back and forth between owen figuring out the murders + tosh crying to mary while she looks unsympathetically down at her⌠itâs just a well-filmed, cool scene, and i enjoy it. thrills me, heh. also owen adhd icon
aditd... maggieâs wedding⌠weâd been married less than an hour. scenes that got me. i think of maggie a lot. i think of that scene a lot. i think âthe woman on the roofâ is my most listened to torchwood ost track, fff. itâs very special to me. that song reminds me of a thomas newman score.
tosh n owenâs deaths. of course. both of owens deaths actually, the second one is more impactful but the way nobody held him when he first died bc they were all in shock haunts me ;-;
#tdot#txt#I AM TRYING SO HARD TO NOT DO THESE SO LATE BUT. ARHGHGHHGHGH#me when i give myself a fun lil fandom challenge n it tURNS OUT TO BE CHALLENGING#ARGH!!!#but. here. take it

DID YOU SEE WATCHING AND DREAMING. I CRIED.
Oh, I saw it!
First of all, I'm genuinely impressed that they wrapped things up in such a succinct and satisfying way after Disney pulled the rug out from under them. Apparently, (and I only just learned this) The Collector wasn't even part of the original plan? He was added after they found out they weren't getting a Season 3? That is wild, but in hindsight, yeah, I can kind of see it. And sure, we didn't get everything we wanted - personally, I'd have loved more development of Phillip's backstory - but overall it was a powerful conclusion. One thing that comes to mind is that we don't get much resolution on The Collectors/Archivists, even though to be frank, they are a problem. Enslaving and genociding their way across the universe, but the story just didn't have time to dwell on that. I've also seen people lament that this was mainly a showcase for the original three protagonists and that the ensemble didn't have much to do. True enough, but they're also called protagonists for a reason. It started with Luz, Eda, and King. It had to end with them too.
It's curious how there are multiple points where the story does a fake-out with The Collector and makes you think they're going to be the new Big Bad, but they never are. Certainly the end of King's Tide and the beginning of For The Future implied as much, but in the end it was always Belos. (And to a lesser extent, Kikimora.) I've got a whole post in the works about him, because I genuinely think he's one of the greatest villains ever written in modern media, which is a surprise even to me, but he totally is. And since this is the final episode, Dana dropped all pretense and had Belos scream that he would "cleanse this Perdition" himself. Which is a religious term. Yep, he's a Puritan bigot, and they're coming right out and saying it now. By contrast, we learn a lot more about The Collector and how he was never the bad guy. Seeing him sobbing in the corner, lonely and desperate for a friend...learning how the Archivists used him, enslaved his friends, and abandoned him...only for him to take the blame for their crimes...god, can you see why they're an unresolved issue? Fuck the Archivists. But by far, one of the most chilling lines was "So? Toys break all the time. You just fix em." Like. Wow. It explains so much, and gives us some insight into Collector/Archivist culture.
Belos possessing The Titan's corpse is something I never saw coming, but it works for me because Belos didn't realize it was possible either. Any more than he realized King was The Titan's son. Why would he? I love his surprised reaction, "The dog?" Especially coming from Raine's voice. I have to give credit where it's due to their voice actor. I bet it was a lot of fun to play Belos during those lines. But speaking of The Titan, I never expected to see him either, but man oh man do I love him. I can't really bring anything new to the conversation about how wonderful he is. From how he acts like Sans, to the casual way they reveal that he's bi-gendered, to the implications of a Hooty-like appendage sticking out of his eye socket. (Why didn't Hooty get any lines, by the way? That's a little disappointing...) Like he might be some kind of maggot that grows on Titans or something. I adore The Titan and his laid-back, good-natured attitude, complete with a bread pun message for his son! The way his works about Luz choosing herself echo back to Eda's words, and how Luz finally does it. I can't get enough of her Titan Form, by the way. Especially since it reminds me of Harpy Eda, and seems like Luz has taken on aspects of both her best friends. (Shame Amity never saw it, though...)
In general, Luz as a hero of this story works really well.
I'm not a fan of the fake-out death trope but they really got the most out of it here. (Similar to Frozen 2.) They reveal almost immediately that Luz is still alive, and what matters is that her loved ones think she's dead. The Collector is forced to deal with loss for the first time and he does not know how to handle it at all. King's rage is awe-inspiring, as is Eda's line about how she can't control herself. In general, the moment of Luz dying to save The Collector, in their failed attempt to pull the forgiveness trope? Oh my stars, that was poignant. And the actual scene of her simultaneously dissolving into goo and yet also turning into light? I don't know how else to describe it but if you saw the scene, you know what I'm talking about, right? The way The Camilia doll sheds a tear. The ball of light falling into the pool of liquid and turning back into Luz as it does. Luz's final thought being a realization of how she should have said goodbye. Like, oof...for a split second, I honestly thought we were losing her. Oh, and the music. The music told us Luz was dying long before anything else did. That track punches your feelz.
But I also love how there's an inversion of what we've come to expect. How Luz's friends are all using Glyphs but she, for the first time, doesn't need them. With the Titan's power, she can cast magic the normal way, with Eda guiding her in how to do it. It feels like comradery, like teamwork, like everyone coming together to save The Isles. Right down to Luz's declaration to Belos at the end. How she is both a child of the human realm and student of the demon realm. Unlike him, she didn't reject either world. She embraces both parts of herself. "Now eat this, sucker!" Ah, so satisfying. I'll talk more about Philip's death in my master-post about him, but since I'm just showering praise on Luz right here, I absolutely love her reaction (or lack thereof) to his final, last-ditch effort to scheme his way out of this, and his subsequent death. Like he said, she just stands there. The Boiling Rain doesn't even hurt her - since, at least in that moment, she's not human anymore. Philip's pretense is figuratively and literally stripped away as the rain causes his human form to melt and reveal the monster underneath. And Luz is all out of fucks to give. She and everyone else have been fooled too many times. It's not going to work this time.
...and then the whole thing is ruined with the stomp-out death, and a serious, poetic moment is played for laughs. Yeah, I know people love this, but I just wasn't a fan of it. Totally kills the tension, and it's not worth it when Belos is a character who hasn't ever come anywhere close to the comedy in this show. He's always been played straight. Also, The Collector smashed him into a wall at full speed, and that didn't kill him...but getting stepped on does? How? Why? It's just a little weak...
But never mind that, time to talk about the ending and epilogue!
I know a lot of people were disappointed that The Collector didn't stick around and get adopted into the big found family, but I like this. One, they were never looking for a family. They were looking friends. That was the word they specifically and repeatedly used. King and the others are still going to be their friends. Cause like, The Collector isn't leaving forever. The final scene proves that. They come and visit. Possibly all the time. But the point was made that he has a lot of growing up to do, and I love that. I love that it was his realization, too. And that final moment between him and King made me sob, even if everyone predicted it. I like how Luz loses the ability to use her magic, and I wouldn't even have minded if that had been permanent, but I also like how there's hope for something new. Hunter gets reunited with Darius (but not explicitly adopted by him. Hunter Noceda fans, y'all are still valid.) and there's seemingly no punishment for Odalia, but also no love. Alador gets a big hug, she gets squat.
Dana, I swear, that fake-out in the epilogue was uncalled for. "After all this time..." Had me gaping. But I will say that Camila's "Luz, you saw them last week." Was perfectly delivered and very funny. Vee is as cute as ever and I love the implication that she became Luz's adopted sister like we all wanted. Luz majors in everything because of course she does, (honestly, I can relate) and I don't even care that the new doorway to The Boiling Isles is incredibly conspicuous and easy for humans to stumble upon because Headmaster Eda! Head. Master. Eda. It's perfect. Amity's redesign makes her look like a pirate, I love it, she actually kind of resembles Alador. Gus's hair is on point, Willow's lost of a ton of her baby fat, and-excuse me? Blue Jay? Blue?! Jay!? Hunter got a new Palisman! And his name is Waffles?!? Nope, sorry, I can't. Nothing could destroy me more than thi-Flapjack has a grave?!?!? Yeah, no. I'm done. I'm out. Dana, you want my heart? Take it. This is just too much. Blair out.

CEO-dol Mart episode 3 :
WHO IS THE MASK..
They're so cute. đ
Yes, Yijoon, you're the visual. đ
Xuimin looks so cozy in that yellow sweater.
Sangwoo, the best maknae.
SLEAZE BAG OF A MAN.
I'm convinced they just let Xuimin be himself đ¤Ł
These wholesalers man... my anger issues could never...
No sweet baby boy. 𼺠GET EM HORANG.
What an asshole.. baby girl just go to the mart.
Honestly I love the drunk Horang, but they're right.. he really didn't have to take that into his own.. kinda like a martyr.. but I guess that's the leader in him still.
I love Yijoon. He's so goofy. Specially paired up with Sangwoo.
Taeho and this granny are gunna fight lol
All their customer problems would be solved if they locked the fucking door...
Poor Sangwoo can't even eat that meat.. he was stolen.
If y'all have seen Xuimin drunk, it's literally like that. He's self aware.
Youngmin đĽş
This series is literally me fawning over how cute Xuimin, Hyungwon, and SaeOn are, and I'm not sorry about it.
6TH MEMBER FACE REVEAL???
Awwww he's cute toooooo. Stop.
THAT LOCKED DOOR??????????

Should you watch the 2022 Willow series?
tldr: probably yes, at least give it to episode 3 and donât take things too seriously
Long answer: (episode 1 mild spoiler alert, Iâm being deliberately vague in places)
The Good
Willow (the series) is a fairytale. Every episode starts with a book opening, like old Disney movies, and the first episode opener is narrated by Joanne Whaley. If you love fairytales, youâll probably enjoy yourself.Â
Itâs a very sincere series. Everything that someone predicts comes true in one way or another. All the symbols have meaning, dialogue is echoed from episode to episode, setups are paid off. Costumes and hairstyles are used as symbolism and you can dive as deep or as shallow into the lore as you like, it wonât affect your enjoyment if you just want to turn off your brain and watch.Â
side note: I am a willow lore scuba diver, let my bias be known
The jokes are quippy (think Buffy the vampire slayer-esque) the cast is gorgeous not that beauty is necessary and is of course subjective but I like em pretty and you canât tell me the whole cast isnât a snack, okay and the story is an adventure full of fantastic battles, puzzles, character growth and friendship. The sets mostly seem real and the effects are mostly practical, with just the right touch of CGI for impossible things.
The Bad
The sincerity of Willow has thrown some people off from the reactions I see online. The current climate of media is one of PLOT TWIST out of nowhere. Especially where you, the viewer, find out after the fact what were the motivations and moving parts of a decision made by a character. Willow tells you what will happen before it happens, if youâre paying attention. This is not a mistake, this is by design.
I do find I have issues with the lighting when Iâm watching on my phone, and Iâve heard complaints from people who watch on TV about the lighting as well. I donât have issues with it on my computer screen. Not every episode suffers from this problem, but notably episodes 3, 4 and 6. I wish theyâd made the light come from where the music was coming from.
The reactions to the music and dialogue being more modern have been mixed, but itâs never personally bothered me. It was jarring for me when the modern cover didnât go over the credits for one episode and then went back to going over the credits.
The Best
You donât need to watch the movie before starting the series. It will give you some additional context and a few easter eggs, but itâs not necessary viewing. Willow stands on itâs own merits.
All the relationships progress in satisfying ways and the party composition is delightful. There are character tropes but theyâre subverted in frankly fun ways.Â
Take the cocky, arrogant prince/hero and the frivolous princess damsel-in-distress, swap the genders and you have Kit and Airk.
Want a devoted knight? Hereâs she is! Sheâs bad-ass, smart, devoted and quietly in love with the princess.
The âGandalfâ of the group, if you will? Reluctant to use actual magic, is a devoted father and basically mayor of his village.
The reluctant hero/chosen one is a woman who loves a domestic task and wants to marry her love.Â
She becomes more powerful by embracing her emotions, ALL her emotions, jealousy, anger, fear hate, the whole dark side. Sheâs allowed to be a bit of an airhead, indecisive, scared and comes into her power by accepting all parts of herself. Itâs really good, yall.
In conclusion, if you watched Willow and you liked it, take a minute to let Disney+ know so we get seasonâs 2 and 3.
