The Barbie Diaries: High School Mystery

Random idea as long as I'm allowed to make two requests, if not delete/ignore this, but the papas, nihil and seestor playing video games with reader!

Primo (he/him)

He doesn't really play himself, but he's very willing to watch.

He likes two types of games: the ones where you get to build, farm and make friends (The Sims series, Minecraft, Stardew Valley) and games where choices matter and there's a mystery to be solved (Detroit: Become Human, Baldur's Gate 3, Life is Strange).

If you play games where you get to build, he asks if you'd mind letting him give you design ideas, as he was always interested in architecture. Your in-game houses never looked better, he's an excellent architect.

He also memorizes all the gifts and recipees from Stardew Valley for you. Considers it a good brain excercise.

With the other kind of games, he is fascinated by all the options they offer and the concept of morality.

Although he does think Detroit: Become Human got way out of hand with the plot. It was one of the few times you heard him mutter cursewords in Italian.

He does enjoy Neil Newbom's performance in games, though. He's the only reason Primo bought you Resident Evil: Village and insisted you play together.

Secondo (he/him)

Well, he does like classic arcades.

And surprisingly, it doesn't take long for him to grow familiar with a joystick. So if you have a console, he's pretty good at it after a few days.

He's weirdly good and Doom. It's very concerning how good he is at Doom.

And MovieStarPlanet. This man spent so much money on MovieStarPlanet it's insane.

He needs his character to look fabulous, after all. He will actually make it a point of pride that his character is dressed better than yours.

He plays as a female character, by the way.

Naturally, he played the Barbie games, too. His favorite is The Barbie Diaries: High School Mystery.

Terzo (he/they)

Terzo is rather decent at classic platformers, like the original Mario Brothers game or the old Sonic games.

You show them a dating simulator and the bastard is obsessed.

He gets a new phone just to have more dating simulator games on his phone.

This is all fine and dandy until he he gets his hands on Mystic Messenger and stayed up at nights to play the night chatrooms.

On maximum volume. On maximum brightness.

Needless to say, Omega was not amused. Neither were you.

It gets even weirder when Terzo starts throwing around phrases in Korean that they learned from the game.

Korean with a very thick Italian accent.

Omega is losing his mind, especially after Terzo, having not gotten enough sleep one night, accidentally tried to perform a ritual from the Arcana, rather than the one he was supposed to.

You both end up on technology detox as Omega insists it's crucial for you two to touch grass.

Copia (he/him)

We all remember him playing Driving Miss Daisy.

We also all remember that he sucked at playing Driving Miss Daisy.

He's good at co-op games, though!

Like Minecraft or Raft. Or even Stardew Valley (that one mod is forever in my heart).

Especially Minecraft. Copia yearns for the mines.

You find a bigger hill or a mountain in the game? He insists to dig a room in it as your first base.

You leave for a bathroom break and suddenly Copia's wearing diamond armor and you have a giant underground empire.

You know he didn't cheat, he doesn't even know how to input cheats in the game.

He's the same in Stardew Valley. He was at the bottom of the mine with the original pickaxe and a crappy sword in less than a week in-game.

Science can't explain how he did that. Or why the mines is the only thing he's good at in those games. He sucks at everything else, he is a mines-only boy.

Old Nihil (he/him)

He is not going anywhere near the computer after Swiss and Sunshine showed him Five Nights At Freddy's.

He is not risking that shit again.

He will sit in the corner of the room and sulk if you play video games while he's around.

Young Nihil (he/him)

Even in his youth, he was older than video games and not very smart.

He gets way too distressed about the games so you put him on a gaming ban for the sake of both his and your own sanity.

He does like watching you play, though. Especially as he cuddles up to you.

He keeps complimenting you while you play. He's proud of you!

Young Sister Imperator (she/her)

She would not have the time.

As much as she loves you, it's almost always a no.

She doesn't mind if you play something while you're together, she's just... not gonna have the time to actually play.

Although considering it's the 60s, it's probably more likely to assume she just hears about you going on about arcades.

Which she doesn't mind, even if the games seem completely absurd to her.

Old Sister Imperator (she/her)

She will die of embarassment if anyone finds out, but she's a sucker for old Pokémon games.

She even has the first generation Pokédex memorized.

You leard that by accident while looking for mods for Minecraft and she automatically quotes the Bulbasaur Pokédex entry as you gush over the cute creature.

She's embarassed to say the least. You totally use it as blackmail on her.

And pay for it in the bedroom.

HSHQTASK059: FAREWELL !

when did you join ? what made you join ? what do you remember from the plotlines that were current at the time ? where were you in life when you joined and where are you now ?

right at the beginning of 2016, around feb or march. i had just finished high school and took an off year to prepare for uni admission exams. i needed something to take my mind off studying for it and my friend julia suggested i joined her on tumblr rping. i had no idea what that was but she helped me through it and we joined another group together. at the time i also developed a bit of a thing for royals and made my character in that group an undercover norwegian royal, on some princess diaries bullshit. but looking up things for that group i decided to search norwegian royalty on tumblr and found the blog for a character in vik. olav if i'm not mistaken. i started stalking the group and got really interested in it and mentioned it to julia who told me she'd been here before and would join with me if i chose to so we brought barbie and biel. then the group closed and i completely gave up rping until one random day many months later i logged into tumblr again god knows why and there was a message from martha, she told me the group came back to life and i decided to rejoin. and here i am, haven't left since.

which characters have you written over the years ?

ffs, let me see if i can remember all of them: ayo, bruce, barbie, toni, leon, sergi, silje, ilija, zoey (silje's draft), pedro, noémïe (poor thing lasted 3 seconds), ionie. i feel like there's more, i just can't remember.

what is your favourite plotline that you've been part of ?

the zulu & the southern africa conflicts. even all of us applying together that day was such a moment, i loved every bit of it. i had so so much fun writing ayo even if he was one of those characters it is impossible to write filler threads with, i still felt so much joy when i got a notif that someone replied to him, even if the entire reply was someone hating on him hard.

what about other people's plotlines ?

it's impossible to pick one when you've been here from the start and have seen countless amazing ones but the english plot was truly a wonder, even the murder mystery event was fucking incredible. anything involving russia and the romanovs as well was so well thought and made so much sense when you put the pieces together you just can't help but love every bit.

who is your favourite character from the ones you've played ? why ? what made you love them ? what made them so fun to write ?

favourite to write i'd say ayo, for the same reasons i mentioned on the plotline question but if i had to choose only one to keep playing forever it would either be silje or ilija. i feel like those are versatile ones that i could go in different directions with if i'd wanted to. the one i had the most fun writing though was pedro for sure.

if you could relive a plotline, which would it be ?

the invasion in greece and i think everyone who was here for that would say the same thing. that was our most iconic event and for a reason, everyone put 150% into it and it worked out so so so so well we didn't even imagine the outcome it would have, we just wanted to traumatise everyone a bit but received the best event in hshq in return.

is there a plotline that you'd edit now if you could ?

i don't think there is, especially because i don't think i remember even half of them but even then everything was fun and a joy to write about so i probably wouldn't change anything.

what's a plotline you wish you would have been able to finish before closing or just write more of ?

the ones that never happened. e mentioned some of the things we planned and didn't happen on the timeline post but i assure you that's not even the beginning. at times we'd plan an entire year of events in advance and come up with a full story, reasoning, plot drops for it but when the time to have them came we forgot all about it and change everything to something we'd put together in 20 mins instead of the plans we spent days working on. even the cruise ship they were supposed to be stuck in was an idea we had so much fun coming up with and it didn't get to see the light of day.

what is your favourite ooc memory ?

every honesty hour chaos was such a fun time to be on the dash, or whenever something big would happen ic and there would be 100 ooc posts reacting to it on the dash and the jokes were the peak of comedy. but i'll always have a soft spot for the soletsky silent thread bc icb we actually had 40+ notes on that, it was priceless. the word lunch is stuck with me forever. AND that one time i got kicked out on this exact date a couple years back.

where can others find you if they want to get in touch ?

i won't delete the tumblr app from my phone just yet so if you want to send me a mssg, i'll be checking it every now and again. same with discord, i'm there under barbielandwired and we're not deleting the hshq server so we can still have that in case anybody wants to pop into the chat and catch up. i'll give you my socials too if anybody wants that, we're all friends here. i've known u lot for 8 years.

The Barbie Diaries: High School Mystery is a GBA game I bought and finished today. And it's so weird. The game practically plays itself by activating minigames and mechanics for you. There are select objects that you can jump over, but there isn't a real jump button to jump any time you want. Not that you would really need to, but I do find it strange.

Spoilers ahead: there's a guy named Charlie that I don't remember being in the movie, so I guess he's an OC for this game? He's the Secret Admirer, not Todd. Todd doesn't even really have creepy vibes in this game; he's just a tech whizz. Raquelle with her friends, and Barbie's girl friends barely play a role. They have some funny dialogue though. It seems this game merely borrows some elements and characters from the movie, and barely any of the original plot, which I'm not complaining about.

There's???? I think this is supposed to be a 4th wall break?

I can't understand. What do you mean, "After story beat dialog"?????? WAIT. I THINK THAT'S SUPPOSED TO BE PARANTHETICAL? WAS SHE SUPPOSED TO SAY "You're a life saver, Barbie." AFTER I BEAT THE STORY??? THIS WAS FOUND IN LIKE THE MIDPOINT OF MY PROGRESS. WHAT.

ANYway. It's supposed to be a mystery adventure, right? So you're finding items and clues. But a lot of the items are covered in tar and gravy??? For some reason??? This is never fully explained. Why are there so many items covered in tar and gravy. Mr. Bennet ended up being the culprit behind the stolen items, so did he like.. start covering these items in tar, ran out, and used gravy for the rest? And ran out again? Because not every item has tar or gravy on it.

The minigames are pretty easy, of course, since it's designed to be simple enough for kids. But there's like a section of the game were you have to balance on beams in the Gym, and the middle part of it has you doing one random input at a time in order to inch forward on the beams. It takes like,, 20 inputs? 25? The prompt comes up kinda slow, and there's no penalty for pushing the wrong button, so I just mashed all the buttons I could to get across faster.

I could keep going on about the silliness of this game, but I'll leave you with one last thing.

This is the very end of the game. They misspelled "diary" as "dairy." <3.

Could I get some wholesome HCs for Jane babysitting the child creeps?

Usually it's because Rouge is too busy or on a mission, and it usually is a few days of Jane babysitting.

For Sally, Jane will wake her up with milk and toast with peanut butter on it. It's been Sally's favorite breakfast since she was alive.

She'll usually get Sally fed and happy before she tries to brush her hair. Which, btw, is a feat worse than death. Sally's hair smells of rot and has crusted blood in it, and Sally will only let Jane brush her hair. Her scalp is sensitive from being bashed in, and any slight pull or tug will make Sally cry. Jane has figured out a way to brush it to relieve the pain and keep the hair healthy and clean.

She also has a habit of letting Sally watch old tapes of Jane's childhood she kept. Usually it's just zoo visits and family parties, but once in a while Sally will find videos Jane made with Jeff before the incident or some video diary of a hard day at school. Those are rare, though.

If it's one of the other ghost babies, Jane will make pancakes for breakfast. She'll add some whip cream and syrup on top to make them smile, which makes the ghost kids smile, too.

And she'll gather all the kids for a move night. It's normally Barbie or Bob the Builder, I'm not gonna lie to you. If they request something like H2O or something more teen, Jane will usually let them do it.

Restrictions do apply, though. No horror movies before bed, nothing like Degrassi or Glee, and nothing involving murder mysteries.

Will sometimes let them all have a sleepover, if Rouge allows it. This happens like 50% of the time. They have to do their chores and get ready for bed first though.

Jane will read stories, but the one that have a deep hidden meaning. Don't go to the train tracks, keep your head high, don't trust people who won't change, etc. Evne in the afterlife you have to be careful.

She'll usually just stay up after everyone has gone to bed. She'll do the dishes, clean up, etc.

When it's time for her to stop babysitting, she'll sing the fun song. It's a song she learned at camp when she was a girl scout, and it's Sally's favorite way to leave a party.

"We had fun, fun, fun, now it's time to say goodbye. Thank you for having such a good time! I'll see you next meeting with a big apple pie! Bye, bye, bye!"

I used to watch Shrek 2 on DVD on every single long car trip because I had a portable DVD player that was kind of broken and Shrek 2 was the only movie I had that would still work.

Against my will, I've seen The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian like ten times despite never having watched another movie or read a single book in that series. I did play the White Witch in my high school drama production of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe though. My mom's oldest goddaughter was really into that series.

5 movies that I watch a lot:

Clue (1985) is legit my favorite movie I watch it all the time

I've watched Oceans 8 more times than is probably healthy bc Cate Blanchett and Anne Hathaway were part of my gay awakening

I really liked The Greatest Showman when it came out and I'll put it on in the background while I work because I like the music

I haven't watched it super recently but despite not really liking the MCU post-AoU, I will watch Black Panther if given the slightest opportunity

I watch Prince of Egypt pretty often and I wanted to watch it during Passover but grad school got busy O.o

5 book series I used to read a lot:

The Princess Diaries (I read all but the last book bc my library didn't have it v_v) and honestly anything by Meg Cabot that I could get my hands on

The Disney Fairies books (I hecking loved those books okay they were great the movies did not do them justice)

Percy Jackson and the Olympians/The Heroes of Olympus (loved these books, kind of want to reread them)

The Gaslight Mysteries series by Victoria Thompson (I'll be honest these were NOT age appropriate for when I read them I was like eight but my grandma read them and liked them and would let me read them after she'd finished them and we would have fun talking about who I thought had committed the crime or whatever)

The Nancy Drew books (I never managed a full collection, but I do have a first edition of The Spider Sapphire Mystery that I got for $2 at an antique store once) I used to buy one every time I went to visit my stepdad's family because they had two Barnes & Noble stores and we would always stop by one and I would save up for this monthly trip so I could buy another Nancy Drew book and then when I finished it, my grandpa would read it.

5 book series I read now:

Does it count as a series if there are only two books? The last novels I read were The Handmaid's Tale and The Testaments by Margaret Atwood.

Trying to get my hands on the rest of the Persona 5 manga, I have the first two volumes and I want to collect the rest.

I will reread the Uglies books by Scott Westerfeld a million times those are amazing books I love them.

I got back into Fruits Basket because the sequel series came out and I picked up the first volume on a whim. I should finish that.

god I need to read more books that aren't for school um... I've actually been meaning to reread The Hunger Games now that I'm older because I last read those books in middle school and I feel like I missed a lot.

i did all the houses because why not, and i included affiliated companies (e.g. pixar) so it gave me more freedom (i added a 'true' disney film for everyone just in case though). there are also non-disney films that i included for some of the characters bc they seemed like the type to like them c:

black eagles:

edelgard - she’s the type that watches it only when she has free time. she doesn’t exactly have a favourite, but she thinks all of the toy story movies are great (pure disney: the great mouse detective, for its mystery and sherlock holmes-like main character; the climax scene keeps her on the edge of her seat)

hubert - (watership down, wallace and gromit, any tim burton film) he likes more serious, psychological thriller movies so disney doesn’t really suit his tastes. if he had to choose, james and the giant peach (pure disney: hunchback of notre dame)

dorothea - she’s loves all of the musicals, and the ones with great songs. so films like the princess movies, enchanted, tarzan, etc. are right up her alley! she lives and breathes high school musical. her favourite disney song of all time is cinderella’s 'a dream is a wish your heart makes', and she tells everyone to give sequels a chance

ferdinand - he won’t admit it, but he likes the aristocats because of the soundtrack. doesn’t watch/care for disney though

bernadetta - the chronicles of narnia was her entire childhood. whenever she rewatches it, she eyes the fantasy cg with pure fascination and daydreams about being in narnia (pure disney: live action alice and wonderland for the same reason)

caspar - (sharkboy and lavagirl, home alone) hercules! when he saw it as a kid, he idolized hercules so much he wanted to grow up like him. you can still catch him whistling 'zero to hero' every now and then. cars is also a fun ride, as is sky high

petra - she thinks mulan is awesome. she admires quasimodo (hunchback of notre dame) for triumphing despite all the difficulties he encounters as well, and talks about it to hubert sometimes

linhardt - (space jam) holes. the movie is juuust weird enough for him to stay awake and not doze off, but even then he’s kind of meh. either version of fantasia is way too weird though—he’ll ditch it before you can even say 'mickey' (pure disney: honey, i shrunk the kids)

blue lions:

dimitri - (the polar express) lion king because he’s basic there’s something admirable about simba’s journey to become a king. also because lions. he unironically enjoyed frozen and likes a lot of classic christmas films

dedue - (prince of egypt) all of disney’s nature documentaries; he thinks the penguins are cute. monsters, inc. makes him happy because he imagines himself as sully, felix as mike, and dimitri as boo

felix - pirates of the caribbean. he can try to hide the fact that he once cosplayed as jack sparrow when he was fourteen, but his friends will never live it down. in a similar vein, ghost in the shell 2 and zorro bc he’s an edgy weeb

mercedes - (sound of music) mary poppins. she likes the dynamic between mary and the children, and 'spoonful of sugar' is her go-to song while she does chores. bridge to terabithia also has a special place in her heart. she doesn’t actively go out and watch movies though

ashe - (an american tail, balto, land before time) he a) loves animals and b) loves the ones centred around families, so he likes brother bear, finding nemo, lilo and stitch, etc. his favourites are bambi and coco bc bambi kind of reminds him of himself and miguel’s family is his ideal family. also, both of the goofy movies. without fail, he will always tear up once the credits roll for the fox and the hound

annette - (all of the barbie movies) a hardcore disney fan. her favourite princess is rapunzel (tangled)—bc exploring the world? curious about everything? perky and sweet? she really connects with her! would sing 'i see the light' in the shower. loves one hundred and one dalmations, lady and the tramp, and a lot of the cute romantic ones. goes on a disney marathon with mercie and ingrid every summer

sylvain - he once saw the incredibles on the big screen and thought it was great. would also enjoy the sorcerer’s apprentice if he bothered to watch it (pure disney: ratatouille)

ingrid - (charlotte’s web) only watches disney with annette. fond of up and all of the winnie the pooh films for their heartwarming stories

golden deer:

claude - the emperor’s new groove. the constant thrills and kuzco’s sass keep him engaged throughout the whole film. he also likes zootopia for its intrigue and well-timed jokes, and he managed to correctly guess who the mastermind was way before the movie ended. also loves robin hood and national treasure. he’s probably a huge movie junkie so he likes a lot more films outside of disney!

raphael - (cloudy with a chance of meatballs, kung fu panda, all of the lego movies, despicable me, ice age, madagascar) chicken little. it’s just a coincidence that a lot of the movies he likes coincidentally involve food, he swears. he likes chicken little because it’s fun and aliens. a big, big fan of happy-go-lucky, light animated films—disney or not

lysithea - (jimmy neutron) wreck-it-ralph for its zany story. she’s the one that thinks the 1940 version of fantasia is a cinematic masterpiece

ignatz - cult classics like the sword in the stone, the black cauldron, treasure island, and atlantis bc my boy has good taste he likes the adventure and world building. milo is his spirit animal

marianne - (anastasia) wall-e. she can relate to it really well, and her heart warms once wall-e finds a friend in eve. like dorothea, she also enjoys enchanted and a lot of the disney sequels (lion king 2 and cinderella iii, to name a few)

leonie - (how to train your dragon) brave + the rescuers. probably rolls her eyes whenever there’s a romance scene on the screen. just in it for the action and adventure
