i wanna make a fanfic for dungeon meshi but kui ryoko covered pretty much covered all the themes i like when writing fanfic ideas.
The implications of bad tropes like "evil" sentient races? Orc tribe here; respectfully portrayed refugees/genocide targets, not stupid or unreasonable yet not perfect, (understandably) suspicious yet slowly accepting of the main crew (who was legally obligated to kill them), unique culture heavily based on the environment that kept them alive, on good terms with Senshi.
The implications of character flaws portrayed as a joke? Already addressed in canon and side stories; miscommunication strains relationships, violence can still be traumatizing when you think you're desensitized, consequences can come from both good and bad intentions, and some of the flaws themselves only make sense to exist with the worldbuilding.
Patching holes in worldbuilding? What holes? We got ecosystems, big and small cultural differences, the implications of massive lifespan differences, regional differences in environment and classification, repeated behaviors more common in specific races as a result of sociocultural circumstances, cuisine-
Giving some love to a minor character that isn't treated well by the author? Pretty sure Kui Ryoko cares about all of them already, just about every major or minor antagonist is written in a sympathetic or semi-sympathetic way.
AU? whoops here's a semi-canon Modern AU and Genderswap AU.
If I tried to insert an OC, all the circumstances coming with the worldbuilding would just push them away from most of the canon characters, especially if they're non-humantallman.
(...OCs and AUs are still probably possible, just don't have any immediate ideas coming up.)

Answer the Questions and Tag 5 Fanfic Authors
I've been tagged by @rifle-yes because they're evil like that, I guess.
1. How did you get into writing fanfiction?
Fun fact: I started writing fanfiction before I even knew what fanfiction was, writing alternate endings to some books I'd read or coming up with stories about OCs in these book's universes.
Then the first fanfics I wrote knowing it was fic were for my sister because we were obsessed with the same series at the time. These fics are about 90% chaos and crack, it's amazing.
2. How many fandoms have you written in?
8 if you only count the fandoms I completed and posted fics in; if you're counting all the fandoms I threw words about in a doc it's closer to 10.
3. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
Looking at the aforementioned fics which I was smart enough to date, looks like we're looking at 16+ years.
4. Do you read or write more fanfiction?
Read, because writing is hard ;-; I can go weeks without writing a word but I guess I'm always reading something.
5. What is one way you’ve improved as a writer?
Well, my English is better for one. Also, I control my sentences better. I can write short ones now and actually know what a period is! 8D
6. What’s the weirdest topic you researched for a writing project?
I don't have a complete list off the top of my head but I'd say it includes the worst / most disgusting foods in the world, moon festival worship rituals in ancient China, and wedding ceremonies amongst Cheyenne people.
7. What’s your favorite type of comment to receive on your work?
I love all ze comments but I guess I particularly like those who point out a specific thing they liked in a chapter or fic.
8. What’s the most fringe trope/topic you write about?
Does the prose Edda count? Also I guess I'm bound to try and write a fairytale in whichever fandom I end up. Is it a curse? You tell me.
9. What is the hardest type of story for you to write?
Longfics that require a lot of plotting and worldbuilding, probably. I just don't have the spoons most of the time, the ones I did manage to write are the ones that fooled me into starting them thinking they'd be like 10k tops.
10. What is the easiest type?
Humor and fluff fics, bordering on crack, because all you need is to have fun and be yourself.
11. Where do you do your writing? What platform? When?
People are going to scream but I actually used Pages then switched to Word & I'm still using that like a psycho.
I've been known to even use an actual pen and notebook when I'm traveling and don't have access to a laptop.
12. What is something you’ve been too nervous/intimidated to write, but would love to write one day?
I wouldn't say it's about being nervous or intimidated but there are a bunch of longfics in various fandoms that'll probably never see the light of day because of the aforementioned lack of spoons (or time). But it'd be hella classy to start plotting one out and actually writing it just once.
13. What made you choose your username?
It's the pseud I came up for the first internet forum I joined.
Tagging: @wrenaspun and anyone else who wants to try their hand at this!
