If u don’t want to agree to it being a colony then at least accept that they, along with the Irish and the Welsh were oppressed. If you don’t want to accept that then I don’t really know what to tell you becuase to me what im about to list right now seems an obvious example of oppression; trying to wipe out and I quote “ethnically cleanse” cultures, beating children for speaking Gaelic or Welsh right up until the late 20th century, after the battle of Culloden tartan and Gaelic was banned and if caught speaking Gaelic or wearing tartan, you were exiled, flogged or even executed, if you happened to have any ties with the Jacobites then you were literally rounded up and executed. Another example and a much more modern one is an account from my great grandma saying when she was at school you could be beat for speaking Gaelic and when my Nan was younger she was literally taught to “speak English” or more “proper”, meaning getting rid of the accent. Another example are the deep rooted stereotypes that still exist today about Scottish people, that all of them are “violent”, “angry”, “loud”, “drunk”, “savages”, “barbarians”, “not feminine” I could go on.. but these type of things are so common and they’ve been taught for so long that it is impossible not to think of the Scot’s like that and yes, some people may not be thinking of it as “not that deep” when in reality it is because they just aren’t funny and they make people look at us as if were some sort of joke, like our accents are always the butt of the joke or something. My mum has experienced things as simple as a dirty look whenever she gets a bit loud of says something in a strong accent and even on one occasion, an officer in the army telling my dad to “control his wife” after she refused to sing God save the King, as if she were “out of control” or something. All of these things are some sort of oppression and even though they aren’t as severe as they were before, they are still a thing.
I could go on about this topic for hours talking about other things like when talking about being Scottish, they always end up being the butt of the joke whether that be making fun of the accent, making fun of the bagpipes, the traditional dress. I live in England and I have a lot of friends who tend to do these things subconsciously and I wouldn’t hold it against them but I think it does need to be spoken about more and spoken about where it comes from and why it could be quite offensive. Im so sorry to ramble on but a quick thing to point out is the fact that just becuase I want to spread the history of oppression of the Scot’s, it does not mean that I deny their involvement in the British colonialism of other countries and the involvement in the slave trade, i am aware it happened and are embarrassed and ashamed of the Scottish people who did that and I do consider them to be a “traitor” to Scotland but I just want to make my country’s history known and how they did suffer without people comparing or disregarding as something not that important or not as bad, yes some Scot’s did awful things and were involved willingly with British colonialism etc but it should not shrug off the suffering they went through as a country themselves.
I am sorry I couldn’t speak more for the Welsh or Irish but I didn’t want to then speak about their history and get it wrong. 🫶

The Newton Teachers Association (NTA) is facing increasing pressure to end its strike and reopen Newton Public Schools after nine days of closure. But now, one of the most iconic bands to ever come out of Massachusetts is letting everyone know that they support the union. On Wednesday, the NTA posted a video to its Facebook page of the Dropkick Murphys — a Celtic punk band from Quincy — issuing a message to the striking teachers. “We’re the Dropkick Murphys sending our love, solidarity and support out to all the teachers on the picket line. Thank you for all you do,” lead singer Ken Casey says in the video.

Espilver Week 2024 -
Day 4: (Free) Union
"Union: joining or being joined"
My ranger and druid don't uphold a traditional wedding with vows, they perform a very symbolic celtic hand tying ritual that involves binding the pairs hands together to represent their commitment.
Blue: fidelity, strength, longevity.
Lavender: cleansing and spiritual healing
Yellow: symbolic of the sun and light.
Other symbols in the photo: The pink lotus to tie back to Espio. The fur cloak to tie back to Silver.

✿ A list of most (if not all) wicca holidays
✮ Lammas (Lughnasadh) – Pagan/Wiccan Aug 1st
Lammas, also known as Loafmas or Lughnasadh, commemorates the harvest of the first grains, primarily for breadmaking. Lughnasadh itself is named after Lugh, a Celtic deity associated with grain. Lammas celebrations include feasting, crafting corn dollies, and participating in games and contests as a way to honor Lugh and the bounty of the season.
✮ Mabon (Fall Equinox) – Pagan/Wiccan Sept 21st
Mabon, celebrated at the fall equinox, marks the transition to the approaching darkness of the coming winter months. Mabon celebrations involve giving thanks for the harvest, making offerings of fruits and vegetables, and performing ceremonies to honor the equinox’s change from the light half of the year to the dark. Decorations made of corn, squash, vines and pumpkins are common.
✮ Samhain (All Hallows Eve) – Pagan/Wiccan Oct 31st
Samhain today marks the end of the harvest, the start of the Pagan/Wiccan New Year, and the honoring of our ancestors and the dead. Samhain celebrations include lighting candles, setting up altars, and modern activities like costume parties, trick-or-treating, and jack-o’-lanterns.

✮Beltane (May Day) – Pagan/Wiccan May 1st
Beltane is a joyful fertility festival that welcomes the height of spring and celebrates the divine feminine and masculine coming together in fruitful union. Beltane celebrations include dancing around the Maypole, wearing wreaths or crowns of flowers, the crowning of a May Queen, and the lighting of bonfires.
Litha/Midsummer (Summer Solstice) – Pagan/Wiccan June 21st
Litha, celebrated at the summer solstice, marks when the sun is at its maximum power and the longest day of the year. Litha celebrations include lighting bonfires, outdoor feasts, and rituals that honor the warmth and light of the sun and the season’s abundance.

[Image Description: first image: stock photo of three black t-shirts. The first one says on top "Irish By Blood American By Birth" followed by the American flag (thirteen horizontal stripes alternating between red and white, a blue box in the upper left corner containing fifty white stars) merging with the Irish flag (three vertical stripes of green, white, and orange), with the bottom text saying "Patriot By Choice". The second shirt has a fading out Thin Blue Line flag used by American police (a vertical American flag with the red replaced by black, usually with the third white stripe from the right replaced with a blue line, but on this shirt the blue line has been replaced with green, followed by a white stripe and then an orange stripe). The third flag has a somewhat transparent police badge superimposed over the Irish flag, with the word "Irish" up top in big letters, and smaller letters I can't make out on the bottom. Second image: a screenshot of D.W. from the cartoon Arthur (an anthropomorphic animal nominally called an aardvark but lacking the long nose, leaving a flat, tanned fur face and with darker human-like hair in a bob), looking at someone/thing offscreen with a look of disbelief and/or disgust on her face. Irish people, I NEED to know: What do you think of these weird shirts that rednecks in my home town wear?
#image described#as someone whose Irish ancestors came to the U.S. as indentured servants to English masters–#–which to be clear i am not equating to chattel slavery but indentured servitude did suck in its own right–#and whose Irish and Scottish (not necessarily Scots-Irish but i do have a smaller percentage of Ulster Scots) ancestors settle in Appalachi#as working class poor rednecks#i despise Irish cops and Irish American conservatives in general#how are you going to take 'cultural pride' in a culture that was brutally oppressed and in some cases/places still are and then turn around#and become a brutalizing oppressor towards other people#i have to wonder if my family's history of indentured servitude is why i have yet to find any record of my KY and TN ancestors owning slave#but then i do know that it's not unheard of for indentured servants & descendants to turn around and become slaveowners so idk#anyway Irish Americans are the most brain dead self-unaware culture in America and i say that as an Irish American#we used to go to Celtic cultural pride fairs a lot and the scene was rife with Confederate attitudes and imagery#and this was in Indiana and Ohio. two Union states. tho Indiana might as well be South Lite#and as i am more aware of Nazi imagery and dogwhistles as an adult i know now that some of those 'Celtic crosses' were Nazi symbols#anyway#rambling in the tags#acab#might as well tag this as#still rambling about ancestry#while I'm at it#edit: that's not true about what i said about brain dead Irish Americans the Italian American culture is also stupidly self-unaware#and i say that as someone who's great-great-grandmother took my great-grandfather and fled fascist Italy

(VI) The Lovers The Lovers Card in Tarot The Lovers card is numbered 6 in the Major Arcana of the Tarot. This is a card of unity, abundance, the marriage of opposites, and two forces coming together as one.
Now this card is not just one that refers to romantic love, as it can also refer to any two forces being alchemized into one. It is the ultimate card of cooperation in reaching a shared goal! Often it can be interpreted as the coming together in partnerships within other non-romantic areas of life, such as the union between partners in work, in creative endeavors, or in a deep bonding of friendship! I personally find this card of the Lovers to be almost as much about learning how to balance forces as the Temperance card. In this case, that balance is not about tempering or moderating, as with Temperance, but instead a balance of two opposite but equal aspects within life. It can even be interpreted as two opposite but equal forces within a single person, the querent. This works with the balance of masculine and feminine energy, which all of us have within, much like the yin-yang symbol!
The energy of the Lovers card can be associated with Beltane in the Wheel of the Year. Beltane is a time of sexuality, abundance, new or renewed romance, the blessing of the land with fertility (often through the sexual unions of humans in an act of sacred sexuality), and a common time for hand-fasting. I strongly feel that this association with Beltane fits very well with the Lovers card, which in many decks, especially those that are more Celtic-based, we see depictions of lovers in gorgeous spring fields or woodlands with hand-fasting cords twined around their wrists! Two great examples of this style of Lovers card are in The Arthurian Tarot by John and Caitlin Matthews, where it is called the White Hart card, and The Wildwood Tarot by Mark Ryan and John Matthews, in which it is called the Forest Lovers and features the image of Robin and Maid Marian in a hand-fasting around a tree!
