Again back to my last EOA post, and a comment I saw on a repost of it, I am 1000000% on board with the idea of the whole plot of Elena of Avalor, and some of the things in it, being a whole metaphor for Elena trying to keep herself from being driven to insanity aka becoming an evil dictator. Based on the personal research I’ve done, and connecting the dots to Elena’s character, I’ve noticed some key things in the show that sort of represent many “symptoms” of what a “clinically insane” person goes through.

Elena witnessed her own parents death right in front of her eyes. This alone should be traumatizing enough, but not even like 5 minutes later, Shuriki blasts her, but the amulet pulled her inside of it to save her. (Or at least, I like to think she did die, but her soul was sucked into the amulet, thus her possessing it, Five Nights At Freddy’s style). Elena is now sitting in the amulet, in what I think was a sort of state like Locked In Syndrome? Because when she did get out the amulet in Secret Of Avalor, she looked like she was sleeping, AND she forgot how to walk, hell even move around. So I think since she was in there for so long, she started “fusing” with the amulet, thus falling into a sort of coma, but still highly aware of whats going on around her + outside the amulet, but thats besides my point. She spends 40+ years, isolated from the world, with no one to talk to, no source of brain stimulation, no form of movement, just NOTHING. Shes trapped in a void. (*Void by Melanie Martinez starts playing*). Now looking at irl facts, there is no absolute way Elena didnt go insane in the amulet.

Looking at neuroscience, and the world of EOA, we can see the way Elena interacts with the world, and apply those statistics to Elena herself. In an article from The Royal Society Publishing, The Article titled “Perceived Social Isolation, Evolutionary Fitness and Health Outcomes: a LifeSpan Approach.” Written by Louise C. Hawkley, and John P. Capitanio states: “A sampling of recent studies shows that socially isolated housing of various social animal species at various stages of life and for various durations results in altered behaviour (e.g. anxious, depression-like, aggressive, passive, cognition/memory), physiology (e.g. changes in basal or stress–reactive corticosterone, blood pressure, inflammation, immune responses, hippocampal function) and mortality (e.g. post-stroke outcomes)” In the show, we can see Elena suffer through majority of these affects. Especially when it comes to her cognitive ability and critical thinking skills. We see her struggle hard in the show to solve problems, regarding the kingdom, and when communicating with other people.

I will also talk about the fact Elena can see ghosts, and Spirit Guides. I know, she has this power because “The amulet gave it to her.” But think of it this way: The amulet; her trauma, and Elena had to face “the trauma” for a LOOOOONG period of time. Another key factor when it comes to isolation, hallucinations. An Israeli adventurer/author Yossi Ghinsberg spent 3 weeks stranded in the Amazon rainforest (they actually made a movie about him‼️) Ghinsberg stated, due to him being isolated from society without any social contact/interaction, he experienced hallucinations. So what if metaphorically, Elena seeing the Spirit Guides, and ghosts, are her having hallucinations from spending 41 years away from society?

Elena’s dress. That goddamn dress. Its mentioned earlier that isolation can affect the brain’s cognitive abilities, and emotional health. So you basically would have trouble regulating your emotions, and your emotions would be all over the place. RING ANY BELLSSSSS⁉️⁉️⁉️⁉️ Her magic dress is a metaphor for her decline in her cognitive skills.

I now conclude my essay on how crazy I am about this damn kids show. I love Elena sm shes such a complicated character and I LOVE ITTTTTTTTT

On the most recent episode of Serving C*nt Tommy asked Angela to explain like, the concept of electricity and of course she can't- anyway Damien commented on the reel of her struggling to explain, saying she's correct because of Avatar the last airbender? And there's something so sweet about him making dumb (/j) references obviously to make sure she doesn't feel bad about not knowing. He seems to always interact with her socials and takes such a genuine interest in her life. They have such a special bond.

Anyways...

back to business... Here's some updates:

Since the game has made money, i've invested it all back into the game whether it be in assets, advertising or whatever might be benificial for the game. For the nerds - I'm testing Unity Pro, this includes access to many things that include...

*Havok Physics* https://www.havok.com/havok-physics/ - I've implemented Havok into the game which should help out in the application handling all the different game objects and enemies running around in the scene. Most noticeable when punching and attacking enemies with physical items & build up of a bunch of them attacking you.

*Console Support* PSVR - Yep, having Unity Pro means that i can export playstation and console files. Nintendo & Xbox - Those would be getting the keyboard & mouse versions with controller settings.

& more things i've yet to dive into...

*ShadowPC*

I've invested ~75/month into a a CloudPC so be able to not just handle the optics of this project but all the other ones i've been juggling. This means faster work flow and better products for all of you. Here's those specs

I have the code and buttons implemented in the game but for some reason they arent working, still have to do some troubleshooting.

*Cloth, fluid, rope*

i've invested into a new physics package that gives realistic physics for fluids, ropes, and cloth. Hoping to make Dex's leather jacket movable with the player movement. I wanted to put bottles with fluid in it like half life alyx, its just a matter of optimizing those. Because they are objects that independently require a bit of processing information by the GPU / CPU, i must learn the optimal amount to put for each scene to balance frame rate.

*New Blood System*

I've invested into a new realistic blood system that looks beautiful. It's a blood system when the player impacts enemies. It works with clicking but not with VR, so... Currently engineering it to work on game object impacts rather than pointer clicks... is an interesting thing...

Entry 2: Finding your feet in the internship: induction, and completing initial tasks.

In the beginning of an internship, getting to know your colleagues and getting comfortable with the environment is always the toughest part (Wijbenga et al., 2020). Where do I fit in, does the company align with my morals and goals, are they going to like me, these are questions that ran through my head at the beginning of my internships and thats when the nerves get the better of you. Then you think about all the work you have done to get this internship and turn those nerves into a positive motivation. 

As previously mentioned in the first entry, Tennis Lab was a unique company that offered services that usually wouldn’t come to mind but the fact that I loved tennis and had a lot of knowledge of the sport was already a step in the right direction when I started the internship as I connected well with my co workers over that knowledge. I found from the interview and first day that I knew I was going to fit into there work environment due to the same passion for tennis. The very first day of my internship we got straight into it, I was making content already for the French Open and trying to understand the data at the same time, it was overwhelming but I felt I done well for my first tasks.

From the interview with Max Events I knew straight away that I would align and fit in with there work environment due to the fact the interview felt more like a conversation and we all had similar interests and goals which is what made me really hope I would be successful. Once I received the news that I would be interning with them I was keen to get stuck into it. I remember my first day with them I jumped straight into the deep end and was event assisting at the Victory in Business pre season luncheon at Crown Palladium which was a career achievement for me. During the first month of the internship we had three home games for our biggest client, Melbourne Victory which means that we run the chairman functions for them in the corporate suits at AAMI Park. I was fairly comfortable with what I needed to do and learnt quickly on what was expected from me and what needed to be done to run a successful event. I defiantly connected well with all co-workers and realise that I enjoy working in a small tight knit group.
