speaking as a director and general theatre artisan, this is shit. you want your actors to know their script, you want them to be in the room as the expert of their character, because we are all so limited. the magic of actors is they're going to come up with readings and interpretations that would never have occurred to you, and a good actor will come up with things that utterly improve the story. even a mediocre actor will give you some amazing ideas, because we're all different and see the world uniquely.
this is why you'll see jokes in media about acting or filmmaking about "oh did you just give me a line reading?" we don't tell actors how to give their lines, we give them tools to come up with something better than we might have thought of.
also, as the article brings up: an actor can tell you no. they can refuse to do or say things that are unsafe or offensive or just wrong, where an AI can't. a good creative team can take this in stride, finding a way to still tell the story, but also... a good creative team costs money because we know our worth.
for the mario movie???? the mario bros movie?? the actors can't know the plot of the mario movie??? they're scared of plot leaks for mario the movie?? the movie mario???? we're getting not just chris pratt but chris pratt acting BLIND????????
#look#I'm a science fiction fan#I really want to be excited about the rise of AI#but doesn't it seem strange#that we're mainly only seeing AI creep into areas where the workers and product are already undervalued#you know: the arts#instead of removing the toil and stresses from our lives#we are asking AI to automate artistic expression
