I saw the other reblog thread but I propose two slightly different ideas due to the fact that Danny is hurt not to be visited by his parents:
-In both cases, Danny has been in there for months or years. Sam, Tucker and Valerie (maybe helping out other students/ex-students) are barely holding the town together between the DrFentons and the GiWs and the powerful ghost that keeps coming out. Phantom regulars have become reluctant allies. Jazz does not come near the grounds at all but is almost constantly at FentonWork to watch over his parents, monitor the portal, link information between the liminal team and their allies in the realms.
-the team pass by chance above the city when Jason feels an attraction and they go to investigate the city. When they arrive everyone stares at them, the town looks like it has some weird damage.
-The Outlaws were nearby during one of the attacks and will investigate. They arrive just after the ex-phantom teams have dealt with the situation and evacuated. The damage is done and the civilians are evacuated which gives the impression of a ghost town (lol?) then approaching the cemetery Jason feels an attraction
The difference would be in prioritizing it outside of Danny who would either be dealing with global level threats or visibly traumatizing the GiW's influence on the city.
Danny's friends have no idea where he is. Their guess was more that he was captured by the GiW and Tucker is on the verge of madness to find no trace of him on their servers even with the help of Tecnus.
The Outlaws are investigating a small town in Illinois. They don't get very far into town though when Jason feels a weird tug at his chest. He can't help but follow it to a graveyard and then to a specific grave. It is there he witnesses something he never thought he'd experience from an outsider's perspective. A boy trying to claw his way out of his grave.

DPxDC prompt: Danny is Chronos' first child.
Well, not his first child biologically, to be completely honest.
It just so happened that the Phantom very often helped/helps/will help Clockwork at different times and his presence next to the titan required an explanation.
And the opportunity to call Zeus a little brother is worth a lot, right? So when the Ancient came up with this idea Phantom did not resist just to have such a pleasant bonus from their cooperation.
However, in the time of the gods and heroes, such a solution was not a problem. But in modern times, when Phantom tries to attract as little attention as possible in order to graduate from university, such relatives are more likely to cause a lot of problems.

Wonder Woman: Uncle Danny?
Superman, who wanted to chase away a teenager serenely strolling through still smoking battlefield, turns to Wonder Woman, who is waving affably at excactly this guy.
Well, Fenton honestly happened to be in Fawcett City by accident, and it just so happened that by chance it was on this sunny and cloudless day that the villains decided to cause riots worthy of the attention of the founders of the Justice League.
Danny: Diana! My dear, it seems like we really haven't seen each other not for a long time! In what century was it? Ah, I honestly, I barely remember it... The speed at which children grow up defies the laws of time. I mean, look at you! Your mother must be so proud. How's Dad? Still not paying child support, arrogant bastard?
Wonder Woman: Oh, uncle, please. I'm all grown up now, don't worry about me.
Danny: Hm, well, let's get back to this question later. I didn't want to embarrass you in front of your friends. Anyway, would you like to introduce them, little princess?
Wonder Woman: Of course, meet Kal El, Batman, and Shazam. The rest of the guys have already returned to our base. Would you like to...
Danny: Ooh, you're talking about, um... What do you young people call it? The Justice League, right? During my youth, the heroes rarely united and mostly performed all the feats alone. It's good that you help each other, kids.
Danny flies up a little to pat Superman and Batman on the head.
Under the Diana's gaze full of hope that they will get along with her uncle, the men do not move.
In the background:
Red Hood and Robin who used to hang out with Danny near the Lazarus pits: *sounds of seagulls dying of laughter*

Flash: So you're Diana's uncle?
Danny: Yes, call me Danny.
Flash: Cool, cool...
Danny: What does the temperature have to do with it? Do you need ice? Let me make some for you.
Flash: No, it's like,um, I didn't know that Zeus has a younger brother with that name. So, it's good to know?
Danny: Hmm, thanks. Many people tell me that I look quite young, hah. But actually I'm his older brother, so...
Flash: Older? Oh, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to disrespect.
Danny: No, it's all right. It's "cool". I rarely appear on the pages of your human myths and legends, I know it. After all this business about Chronos devours his own children, my father punished me for a long time. So, yeah...It's a funny story.
Flash: Punished for what? How?
Danny: Uh, sitting in a room at a time when there is no Internet or electricity is not fun at all. You see, I just didn't want a younger brother or sister because I was afraid that my parents would pay less attention to me. So, I made up this stupid prophecy and persuaded Gaea to tell it in order to remain the only child in the family. My father would never have thought that I would decide to kill him, that's why...Phah, it's just a bad family story. In 10 thousand years, we'll all laugh about it.
Flash: Yeah, that's... funny.

Danny *is woken up by an emergency call from the League at three in the morning, although he fell asleep at two o'clock* (he gave his contact so as not to upset his niece): I knew this would happen! I knew it!

Billy Batson *stands in his human form in front of the Justice League and doesn't know what to say*,*sweating nervous*.
Danny *enters the hall*: What's up, mortals, Diana and...Batman? My father said that there is something that I have to be here for. Oh! Well, at least someone in this family is also a shapeshifter. Have you decided to make a younger form so that your uncle doesn't feel lonely? What a good boy! Usually everyone is so afraid to seem like children, once they turn a couple of centuries old. Ah, youth~
Billy: Yeah, I decided to..experiment? and it seems I got stuck by accident.
Danny: It's okay, Uncle Danny will help you. Come on, let's go...

Danny *teleports them to the Fawcett City*.
Billy: ....
Danny:
Billy: Hey, I'm still stuck!
A new portal opens and a man in a purple cape hands Billy a note. "Go to Constantine. P.S., my son always completes all assignments only by half, sorry." written on it.
Billy: Oh... OoOhHh!!!

Danny: Yeap, that's me.

Beautiful Ghost-DC x DP prompt

We finally get Tim's perspective on Danny
If there is one thing everyone on campus knows it's that Danny Nightingale is hot. Not in the stereotypical supermodel or Hollywood way. He was so attractive it was scary like he dropped out of a fairy tale.
Tim first saw Danny after whispers started going around. He spotted Danny in the library walking towards the observatory on the top floor.
At first glance, you'd call him a goth and there was no shortage of people who'd love to date one. It's probably why no one shuts up about him. But Tim could tell this wasn't the corporate punk type goth that he saw Damian scrolling through on his phone. Tim was quick to tease Damian and stop what would inevitably become a phase.
No, Danny had a clear style. Classic gothic...but also not. It's hard to explain. His clothes looked handmade, straight out of the 1800s. Did he thrift or make them himself? He was an astronomy major right? Or was is engineering?
Danny looked almost ethereal. Tall, lean, and almost glowing skin. It wasn't until later that Tim would be close enough to see the way his skin sort of glittered in low light.
People parted to not obstruct Danny's path as he went toward the observatory.
Everyone knew that Danny was off limits, too cowardly to get the courage to ask him out and risk rejection. So Danny remained unreachable.
Tim paid it no mind. He acknowledged that Danny was good-looking but there wasn't much else that got his attention. Danny didn't pay attention to others.
But Tim couldn't help but notice that Danny was always alone in his own little world. There was a hint of longing in him. Tim might have overheard a few things.
Danny would usually be in the library reading eclectic materials, playing with tarot cards, and studying star charts. Other days he was in the greenhouse tending to a little corner of plants he was growing. He seemed bored. He looked like he'd rather be somewhere else.
Tim might have done some research. Just scrolling through Danny's social media. Pictures of friends and graveyards. Most of the landscape photos were taken after his arrival in Gotham. Tim gathered that Danny was alone out here and far from home. He could fit in easily around here but simply chose not to.
It wasn't until that faithful day when Danny offered him a bundle of red carnations and a cup of Death Wish coffee.
"You looked like you need this." He said smiling.
And wow...that smile. Tim didn't think he'd ever see a smile like that. It was a sort of lopsided smile, a bit clumsy but sweet. Danny had elongated canines. Were they fake or was it a medical condition?
Tim didn't know how to respond to Danny's offer but he wouldn't say no to a cup of coffee.
Over the next few weeks, Tim found himself on campus more often and hanging around Danny. Danny tended to be very generous. Always gave things to Tim, most of which he made himself. That is what made it all feel genuine. On cold days Danny always had a hot cup of coffee or tea. When it was sunny he had something sweet freshly baked. When it rained he had flowers to brighten the room. When it was foggy he wanted to go find something fun to do. Danny also worked at the flower shop nearby which was said to be haunted by the old owners.
Rumors spread more and more that Danny wasn't human, like some kind of fae that took human form. Was there a chance it was true? Yes. Does that mean that Tim was going to test that?
Yes.
So Tim just wanted to test that theory and gave Danny a bracelet that looked similar to the ones he usually had. It just so happened to be made of Iron. Tim felt bad about it (kinda) but it was just genuine curiosity.
But no Danny wasn't a fae. He was incredibly happy to get a gift though so no harm done.
Another thing Tim noticed was Danny's eyes. They weren't blue like he thought. Danny had central heterochromia. He had a ring of bright green near his iris surrounded by icy blue. Not that Tim was staring at his eyes or anything, just that no one ever mentions that part when describing Danny. It's pretty notable you know. More people should know that.

It's normal to think that.
Anyways Tim and Danny meet up when they can. Danny likes visiting graveyards and abandoned churches. Not that he doesn't like the movies or arcades because he loves that stuff. But one time after a late class he dragged Tim with him on a scenic drive out of the city to this spot he found. It was this massive cliff just far enough from the city that you could see the stars.
Tim never really gave much thought to the stars. He's seen them thousands of times especially being carried around by Kon or on the Watchtower. But right then watching Danny fiddle with his telescope babbling on about the planets and far-off galaxies, the stars felt new and wondrous.
Was this what it felt like to be normal? Just a college kid going on a spontaneous road trip with a friend, not thinking about patrols or duties.
He liked it.
Danny had a way of making him forget about the rest of the world. Someone not linked to heroes and assassins. A friend, a weird one but one he didn't have to be Robin with. He was just Tim to Danny. Not Tim Wayne, not Tim Drake, just Tim.
Because of that, he wanted to keep Danny as far from his family as possible. They already think they were dating and he'd be damned if they scared Danny away. This didn't stop them from investigating Danny and that brat wont stop spouting his opinion.
"I don't know what he sees in you. Aside from appearance, there isn't much to like." Damian grumbled.
"He must be really vain then because Tim doesn't deserve this kid." Jason responded.
"But if he even thinks about hurting Drake-"
"Yeah, we bury him."
Tim has chosen to ignore everything they say.
The last issue is Phantom.
Tim doesn't like Phantom.
The spirit had been hanging around Gotham for a while now. He lingered around the corners of the city and if he felt like it he'd interfere. In his own words, Phantom said that he dealt with the dead, not the living. Tim did some research and it's said Phantom showed up near the dying or dead as a sort of shepherd to souls. He made the transition easier for them.
So when Phantom was seem lingering around Danny he couldn't accept it. He'd be damned if he let some spooky bastard take Danny. He can't have him.
So Tim decided to invite Danny to stay with him for a few days. But a few day became a week became two weeks. Don't judge. This was just so Tim could look out for Phantom and prevent Danny from dying. It hasn't been working so far since Phantom hasn't been seen nearby.
But Tim did run into him.
"Why are you stalking Danny Nightingale?" Tim damanded.
Phantom circled overhead his spectral tail curling. His translucent body phasing in and out of the visible light spectrum.
"Stalking? I don't know what you're talking about. I don't care about chasing the living. But let's say Nightingale is an exception. He's special. But what does he have to do with you?" Phantom eyes Tim suspiciously before diving down floated inches away from Tim face. "Hmmm, I always did think you were the cutest Robin. I was right. Too bad I've got my eyes on someone else now."
And like that he dissappeared.
Now Tim was even more anxious. Phantom was definitely after Danny most likely dead or alive. If something happened to Danny he didn't know what he'd do. Its not safe out there with Phantom hanging around.
Danny was still awake when Tim returned home. He was watching some detective drama he had refused to watch with Tim because he kept guessing the plot during the first few minutes. Which was fair.
"You were out late again. Would it kill you to get some sleep now and then?" Danny sighed stretching.
Tim wanted to say "Actually I think it would. Lets not test it" and banter like always. Maybe even relax and let Danny talk about where show was on.
But Tim couldn't. Not when everything felt so surreal. Danny was just oblivious to the dangerous spirit trying to take his soul and Tim couldn't protect him.
Tim couldn't believe he was thinking this but what if Danny wanted to be with Phantom? Then what?
Tim knew that his emotions were his greatest weakness. When he did control them he does a lot of self-destructive things and he ends up hurting people especially when he's hurt.
He hugged Danny, burying his face in his shoulder.
"Danny can you promise me...that you'll stay here." He didn't care if Danny wanted to be with Phantom just as long as he doesn't leave this world and stop being his light.
The thought of not seeing Danny every day killed him. No more nagging him to eat and drink. No more star gazing. No more TV marathons. No more being dragged to spontaneous trips to the crafts stores. No more hearing the insane conversations with his friends. No more waking up on the couch with a pair of blue-green eyes looking up at him. No more Danny.
Tim felt like his heart was stopping and his stomach dropped.
Danny hugged him back putting a soothing hand on the back of Tim's neck. It was cool to the touch.
"Of course, I'll stay." Danny laughed as if the very notion he'd leave was ridiculous.
Tim's brain seemed to twist in on itself as the cascade of emotions overflowed. That laugh seemed to play over and over in his head echoing non-stop. Warmth bloomed in his chest. Dread, uncertainty, hope, and affection all blended.
Oh no..
Tim was in love.
(This got way too long. I'm not really good a romance as you can tell but I'm trying. Anyway this is a Danny fell first but Tim fell harder situation.)

Iceberg Siren pt 1
**based on a prompt by @purple-goo-writes about Danny getting a job as a club singer for Penguin- I hope y'all like it!**
Oswald Cobblepot watched as his lounge’s newest acquisition crooned on stage, the crowd transfixed by the young man’s stunning voice. The Penguin was beginning to notice that the Iceberg’s profits went up by twenty percent every night this particular new hire was singing, and he had plans to promote the kid. Daniel Nightingale lived up to his name.
He’d stumbled into the young man in an alley, starving and beaten, and offered him a cleaning job. Daniel had taken him up on it, after his sharp blue eyes searched Oswald’s face like he could see his very soul. One of his bartenders had heard the young man singing while he worked a few weeks in, and soon enough, Daniel was the Iceberg’s crowning glory, even if he didn’t know it himself.
Oswald would make sure the young man knew how valuable he was to the Penguin and never left.
Danny gave a short bow to the crowd after his last song, and they all made noises of disappointment as he slipped off the stage through the door in the back. It had been several months since he’d started singing at the Iceberg, and he was thriving. Penguin had started paying him more for less work- Two nights a week he sang, enchanting the denizens of Gotham’s underworld.
It was probably cheating, that he was using some ghostly tricks picked up from Ember, but it’s not like the GIW existed in this universe to track him down.
“Siren! Boss wants you in the VIP lounge before you take off.”
Matt, his security detail, was waiting for him outside his dressing room.
“Sure! Walk me up?”
Danny winked at Matt, who just rolled his eyes.
“Happily married, Siren. Let’s go.”
With a laugh, Danny turned to head up the back steps to the VIP area, swinging his hips a little to make Matt sigh in exasperation.
He wasn’t truly interested in Matt- nor anyone else he’d met in the dimension, but as he began to be fed on a regular basis and filled out more, he found that people thought he was attractive, and he enjoyed the attention. It was far different from being reviled as a nerd or even as the local menace. The attention of people who wanted him felt easier to control even than the attention he received from the ghosts as their king.
The door to the VIP balcony swung open as he approached, and he was waved through. Plastering a sultry smile on his face, he slunk through the tables, winking at patrons as he made his way to his boss.
The Penguin was sitting in a comfortable chair on a raised dais, across the table from a man Danny hadn’t seen in the Iceberg before. The stranger was wearing a domino mask, and had a streak of white through otherwise black hair.
“Thank you for coming, Siren. Please, sit!”
An attendant melted out of the shadows with a third chair, placed beside the bossman. Danny smiled gratefully at the attendant and settled into the chair.
He wasn’t sure what Penguin wanted- sometimes he called Danny up just to show him off in his glittering dress that clung to his skin, and sometimes he called Danny up to read whether a person was trustworthy or not.
“Siren, Mr. Hood here was suggesting a possible business deal- why don’t you hear him out and tell me what you think?”
Ah, reading. Danny could do that.
“I don’t have time for nonsense, Cobblepot.”
The man’s growl raised goosebumps on Danny’s arms, and he had to take a moment to collect himself. Damned if that wasn’t sexy as hell.
“Oh, but Mister Hood, I’d love to hear about your business proposal! What my employer does with his money affects us too, you know- if the business proposal falls through….” Danny batted his eyelashes at the man. “I’m sure you know what happens to the bottom line.”
Red Hood sighed, and then began to explain himself.
Danny didn’t listen to the actual proposal more than he needed to make the appropriate noises. Instead he listened to the tone and cadence of the crime lord’s voice, the way his body moved as he spoke. Everything screamed sincerity, even the small, half-formed core pulsing in the man.
Wait. Hold up. Turn around, go back. Do not pass go, do not collect $200. A core? Here? In someone so clearly still living?
He would have to investigate, but later. His employer was beginning to look to him for a verdict.
“Wow! That sure does sound interesting,” simpering, Danny stood and wrapped an arm around Penguin’s shoulders. “I think you should hear him out, boss- he seems pretty up-and-up to me!”
Penguin smiled sharply up at him and then waved him away.
Danny could feel the stranger’s eyes on him as he left, swaying back to where Matt was waiting at the door.

Look. Danny didn’t intend to get into this situation on his day off, but things just happened to him that didn’t happen to other people. Sam and Tucker would call it the “Fenton Luck”.
Danny didn’t think luck was involved at all.
If luck had been involved, the weird clown wouldn’t have attacked him with a crowbar. If luck had been involved, Danny wouldn’t have responded like he would with a ghost. If. Luck. Had. Been. Involved, the clown would not have flown back into a brick wall and then slumped like a marionette with it’s strings cut.
Stepping forward, Danny leaned down to check his victim’s pulse, but reeled back when he got a good look at the man’s face.
The Joker’s sightless eyes stared back up at him.
Ancients.
“Whatcha got there, sweet thing?”
Luck had nothing to do with anything in Danny’s life, ever. He was cursed somehow, that had to be it.
“A bagel?”
Harley Quinn hopped off the roof and came to investigate Danny’s dead body.
“Sure looks to me like an ex-boyfriend of mine, and not at all bagel shaped. You didn’t even leave a hole in him!”
“I’m…. Sorry?”
Harley grinned up at him, all teeth and a fierce light in her eyes.
“No need, sugar, you did a good thing. What I wonder is why the gas hasn’t triggered?”
Danny laughed nervously- he couldn’t help it, his fear response was laughter!
“Gas?”
“Mhmm! Had his body rigged, the bastard. Joker gas should have spread for six blocks or more when his vitals stopped.”
“Oh. I- you won’t tell the bats, will you?”
“My lips are sealed! I don’t owe Batsy anything!”
With a sigh, Danny shrugged.
“I’m a meta. Joker gas preys on fear, and so do I. The gas must have triggered, but I’m close enough that I filtered it pretty fast.”
Harley put her hands on her hips.
“Batsy doesn’t like metas much.”
“The Bat can suck it.”
She laughed and slung an arm over his shoulder.
“I like you, kid! Let me call my body disposal squad.”
“Oh. Okay.”
Ten minutes later, Poison Ivy and the Red Hood walked into the alley, looking around cautiously. Harley had talked Danny into braiding her hair, and was chatting amiably at Danny.
“-And that’s why Bill owes me a trip to Cabo. I don’t plan to collect, though, he’s just a henchman. Ives! Thanks for coming!”
Red Hood put his hands on his hips.
“I get why you called her, Harley, but why me?”
Harley tilted her head, pulling her hair out of Danny’s hands carelessly.
“You deserve to see him before he disappears, kid. The whole of Gotham deserves that, but we can’t risk it.”
“See who?”
She pointed at the body, and Red Hood went to inspect it. While he did so, Ivy walked up to Danny, peering down on him.
“I know you.”
“Hi, Dr. Isley.”
“I was right! You work for Oswald. Almost didn’t recognize you without your getup. I take it this was your doing?”
“Yes ma’am, although entirely on accident.”
She laughed, and Danny smiled too.
“One we’re all glad for. Thank you.”
There were stomping footsteps, and Red Hood was suddenly in front of them. Harley stood up from the box she’d been sitting on, shielding Danny with her body.
“You did this?”
Danny the angry pulsing of the Hood’s half-formed core. It felt similar to the way his own core had felt when he was forced away from Amity Park. He slid out from between Harley and Ivy and held out his hand.
Hood took it, whether on purpose or unconsciously.
“Hi. Danny Nightingale. I just avenged thousands by accident. Please don’t kill me.”
The pulsing turned from anger to relief, and the Red Hood laughed. It sounded odd through the modulator in the helmet, but Danny smiled along nonetheless.

Your ghostlights fics are giving me so much joy RN I cannot express how much, if this prompt doesn't spark a brain worm for it I get it but I'm excited to read all the others you may wind up posting
There’s a new kid at West Robinson High School.
This normally wouldn’t be a big deal. They get plenty of new students, being an average high school; not prestigious like Gotham Academy, but not terrible like some of the schools in the lower South Side. New kids are hardly anything to make note of, but something about this student has everyone paying attention to him.
It’s not charisma. The guy doesn’t talk to anyone. It’s not attractiveness, because no one really knows what he looks like under the tattered hoodie he wears all the time. It’s not curiosity, not really, because the student body moves around him like he’s dangerous, not like they want to pry all his secrets out into the open.
It doesn’t help that Duke sees things around him.
He considers briefly telling someone about it, but then remembers having to argue for returning to West Robinson High School instead of being put in Gotham Academy and decides that Bruce can continue to mind his own business. It’s not like this new kid has done anything bad (yet) and Duke can handle investigating this on his own.
So he watches, catching glimpses of the new kid—Danny Fenton—in hallways during passing period, hiding away at lunch, disappearing into the streets as soon as the school day is over. They even share a class together, French Language and Culture, but Danny is always in the back corner, ignored and made invisible by everyone else.
Well. That’s not quite true.
There are shadowy figures that surround Danny and they never leave him alone. Even when he’s got his arms folded on his desk, head down, looking as if he’s asleep, these figures pull at the hood covering his head or reach semi-transparent hands down to pet his hair. And Danny reacts to them, lightly batting their hands away or turning his head away from them.
Duke has no idea what they are. Ghosts are his best guess, but he can’t confirm it. As far as he knows, ghosts are magic and can only be seen by magic users, which Duke very much is not. They do lead to cold spots, keeping the temperatures noticeably colder around Danny, and make the shadows darker, which only makes other students more nervous about being near Danny.
Through his week of observing Danny, beyond the ghostly figures and visible unease he causes in everyone, what Duke learns is that Danny is lonely.
No one talks to him. People barely look at him. Teachers avoid calling on him when they can.
And Danny accepts it. He fades into the background, keeps out of the way, shrinks in on himself.
No one else sees it. No one else wants to see him.
It’s breaking Duke’s heart, just a little bit.
He’s lucky that he’s not an outcast at school. With his meta gene awakening and his free hours taken up by Bats and fighting crime, it’s hard to have much of a social life, but he still has a few friends during the school hours he can hang out with. Danny doesn’t have anyone, and the more Duke sees how isolated he is, the more upset he becomes.
Which brings him to step two of his investigation: befriend Danny.
So what if he has some ulterior motives! He also just wants to give this guy someone to hang out with! What little glimpses of Danny’s face he’s able to get show him a tired teenager, worn down the way Alley kids are when they’re at the end of their rope and have nothing left to give.
Duke’s first attempts at befriending Danny fail so fast it’s almost funny. It’s as if Danny knows when someone is seeking him out, because every time Duke goes to where he is, Danny up and disappears, hurrying away and vanishing in the crowded hallways, or in the alley a few buildings past the school, or into the fucking restroom, which is always empty when Duke goes in after him. Trying to use his powers to see where Danny goes next doesn’t help either; all he sees is some glowing figure resembling Danny walk through walls, which is either due to Danny being a meta or from Duke’s powers deciding to be unhelpful.
He’s about to resort to Tim level stalking to finally have a conversation with Danny when his French teacher blessedly (and unknowingly) aids him on his mission.
“Find a partner, everyone!” she instructs with a clap of her hands near the end of class. “This is a translation project, and you’ll be doing them in pairs to check each other’s work and decide how to best interpret something into English. If you don’t have a partner in the next minute, tell me and I’ll assign you someone.”
The class is a flurry of movement just as the last word leaves her mouth, friends turning to each other or running across the room to make sure they’re partnered up before anyone else can butt in.
No one looks at Danny. Which means Duke can just skirt along the wall of the classroom until he’s next to Danny, gently knocking on his desk to get his attention.
Danny looks up, and Duke sees a flash of blue before Danny averts his gaze, tilting his head down again. “Yeah?” he says, and his voice is much softer than what Duke imagined. He expected something hoarse and rough, a little deep, intimidating. Instead, it’s gentle and quiet and smooth.
It’s a nice voice. It’s a shame that no one else has really heard it.
“Wanna be partners?” he asks, as if he’s offering a choice. They both know no one else is going to ask Danny, and if he wants to avoid talking to the teacher, then he has to work with Duke.
Danny sighs. “Sure.”
And then he puts his head back down on the desk.
Duke backs off. This is the best he’s going to get right now. Now that he’s got an excuse to spend time with Danny, he can take his time breaking down his walls and getting to know him. He watches as a figure from the usual group that hangs around Danny breaks away and gently brushes a hand against Danny’s arm. Then they turn to Duke and reach for him.
He moves without thinking, stepping out of the way. The shadowy figure fades back, almost invisible even to his eyes, and Danny’s turned his head to lay his piercing gaze on Duke.
…There’s no way that blew his cover, right?
He didn’t just reveal one of his meta abilities from taking a single step to the side. No way.
But Danny’s eyes are a deep blue that seem almost endless as he keeps his attention on Duke. It feels as if he’s staring into Duke, seeing more than what he wants to reveal.
“Alright, looks like everyone’s found a partner! As you head out, be sure to grab a practice packet from my desk to work on some translation. There are due the next time we meet, and I will be handing out your individual passages once these have all been turned in.” Their teacher sets a large stack of papers onto the corner of her desk, then gets to work erasing the whiteboard just as the bell rings.
Students grab their bags and rush to take one of the packets before heading out to their final class of the day. Duke stays behind with Danny, waiting for most of the class to leave before swinging his backpack onto his shoulder and grabbing a packet for both of them.
He hands one to Danny, who takes it with some hesitancy and a quiet, “Thanks.”
He leaves before Duke does, and though it’s only a second between his leaving and Duke stepping out the door, Danny’s already vanished from sight.
As soon as school ends, Duke heads for the Hatch, hoping a quick evening patrol will help clear his mind. It’s a quiet evening, though, so he’s left with his thoughts more often than not, staring out over the city long enough that Oracle asks him if he’s alright.
Against his better judgment, he says, “I’ve been looking into something, but I’m not finding much. Can you do some research on Danny Fenton?”
Oracle is already typing before he finishes asking. “What am I looking for?”
“Anything. He’s… strange. I don’t know if he’s a meta or just lightly haunted. But there’s something up with him.”
“Do we need to be keeping a closer eye on him?”
Duke considers. None of them ask Oracle to look into specific people unless they’re dangerous. But danger is not the sense Duke gets from Danny. It’s more like he’s hiding, shying away from the world, constantly on edge. “No. If anything, he might be in danger. Something happened to him, because no one ends up like that by living an average life.”
“I’ll let you know what I find. Turn in for the night, it’s quiet out and you’re too distracted to patrol properly.”
“You got it, O.” He salutes the nearest camera, knowing she’ll see it, and makes his way back to the Hatch to change back into civies and get started on his homework.
When he next goes into his French classroom, all the desk has been rearranged so they’re all in pairs, side by side. Already, patterns are filling up the desks, so Duke heads for the back and sits down where Danny usually hides away. He’s not here yet, which is making Duke realize that he’s never actually seen Danny walk into the classroom and head to his seat.
Did he just never pay attention? Has Danny always just slipped in unnoticed until attendance was taken? How did Duke miss that?
There’s movement in the desk next to him. Duke goes to say that he’s waiting for his partner, so please sit somewhere else, when he realizes that it’s Danny who managed to sneak in yet again.
“Hey,” he says after a moment, hoping his surprise is hidden.
There’s a pause, and then Danny returns, “Hey, Duke.”
That’s all they have time for before class is starting and their teacher goes around to collect homework. She then hands out new packets, each one a different section of L’Ecume des Jours, and gives them the rest of class to begin working on translating it.
Duke is already dreading it as he flips through the three pages they were given to translate, stapled to each other beneath the two page instructions of how to format the final translation, how to document their previous translation drafts, and what to include in the reflection essay.
There’s no way he can get all of this done in a week.
On the other hand, it gives him a week to learn more about Danny. He needs to make the most of it.
“This is a lot,” he comments, hoping to prod Danny into conversation.
Danny shrugs.
“Can we work on this together after school today? Or do you have plans?”
“We can work on it today,” Danny says, voice barely louder than a whisper. He’s already scanning the pages, underlining certain words and phrases.
Duke hurries to get to work as well, trying to parse out meaning from the text through single words scattered on the page.
Qu’est-ce que vous faites dans la vie, vous?
J’apprends des choses, dit Colin. Et j’aime Chloé.
Duke nods to himself. He definitely doesn’t know French. Well, he knows qu’est-ce que. He knows vous. He know j’apprends and j’aime Chloé. Also dit Colin. Fairly simple, but with the missing pieces to the rest of those sentences, he really doesn’t know what’s going on beyond the fact that it’s a conversation and Colin loves Chloé.
When he glances at Danny’s desk, he’s shocked to see that his partner is already translating the first few lines into something that reads like normal English.
“Oh, wow,” he says, leaning over to get a better look, “You’re definitely better at this than I am.”
“I just like languages,” Danny replies, turning his paper so Duke can read it more easily.
“Have you been hiding your French skills this entire time? I could have definitely used your help before this.”
Danny goes still for a moment, eyes flicking towards his right where a shadowy figure has placed a hand on his shoulder. Then he turns to fully face Duke and says, “Better late than never. What do you need help with?”
“Everything.”
His immediate answer makes Danny smile, and he begins talking in that soft, soothing voice of his. He talks about not trying to translate everything into English immediately, but to understand the French and take it in as a whole language itself. He talks about getting the idea of the text first, the feeling of it, before trying to fit it into English. He talks about splitting up the text into sections to make it easier.
And then he reads the text, entirely in French, and Duke did not have a thing for voices or multilingualism before this, but he sure does now.
“Qu’est-ce que vous faites dans la vie, vous?” Danny reads, reaching the end of the first page. The syllables come to his easily, his French smooth and steady. “J’apprends des choses, dit Colin.” His eyes dart up, off the page, and fix Duke in place. “Et j’aime Chloé.”
Duke has never been happier that he doesn’t blush so visibly with his dark skin because he feels downright romanced. It’s a mix of the French, of Danny’s addictive voice, of their closeness, of how intimate this dark corner of the room feels, tucked away from the rest of the class.
“We can work on the other pages after we finish translating this one,” Danny says, leaning back at bit.
Duke nods, swallowing to chase away the dryness of his throat. “Sounds like a plan!”
They work in silence for the rest of the class period, and once the bell rings, Danny says, “I’ll wait for you by the bus stop down the street,” before he slips out of reach and disappears into the throng of students heading to their last class.
He’s beginning to think that he’s in way over his head. Duke can handle being in the middle of all the action, risking his life, fighting for others. He can handle staring down rogues and criminals and Gnomon. He can’t handle feelings and romance and other such things. Those are much scarier than a criminal shooting at him. At least with the criminal, he knows what to do and doesn’t just freeze up like he did with Danny.
The school day ends faster than he’s prepared for. As promised, Danny waits for him by the bus stop down the street, where other students are also waiting.
They don’t wait for a bus, though. Danny just meets his eyes and begins walking away, leaving Duke to follow after him, matching his pace so they can walk side by side.
The shadows in the alleyway seem to reach towards them as they walk down it. Something about it doesn’t feel right, so Duke tries to quietly use his powers and force them back.
He only has time to think, Oh, that was a bad idea, before Danny is shoving him against the wall, getting them both out of the way as a shadow solidifies and lashes out at them. He’s kept in place by strong hands on his chest, and Danny’s eyes are glowing lightly as he hisses at the shadows, making them rear back and settle down once more.
As if given permission to reveal themselves, more shadowy figures and strange movements in the shadows emerge, surrounding them.
“Danny, I don’t mean to alarm you, but—”
“I know,” Danny says. “I thought you might be able to see them too. Which is not good.”
“Sorry, man, it’s not like I can turn it off.”
“It’s fine. Just be more careful. They like me because I’m like them, but you just register as a threat. Either that, or prey.”
“Great,” Duke replies weakly, “Those are my favorite things to be. Are we… are we safe to move?”
Slowly, Danny steps back, no longer pressed right against Duke. Nothing moves to attack him, but it might be due to the glare fixed on Danny’s face, eyes still glowing.
“They’ll leave me alone, so…” He reaches a hand out, looking away. The hoodie isn’t able to hide the way his cheeks go red. “Don’t let go and we’ll be fine.”
“I hope this isn’t to lead me to my doom,” Duke jokes nervously as he accepts Danny’s hand, holding it tightly.
Danny wiggles his fingers, making him loosen his grip, and then their fingers are lacing together. Duke stares down at their hands, wide eyed, and hopes he doesn’t look as flustered as he feels.
“Not to your doom,” Danny reassures. “Just a coffee shop I thought you’d like.”
“Well, then, lead the way!”
“Allons-y,” Danny replies.
Stealing glances at him as they walk, ghostly figure and shadow shrinking away from them, all Duke can think is that he doesn’t need to worry about Danny being evil. His immediate instinct to protect Duke has proved that. He’ll keep the investigation going, though, to make sure Danny is safe from others that could hurt him.
Strange and unsettling as he may be, Danny’s also a smart, kind person who deserves more.
Duke is determined to make sure he gets it.
And if he gets a crush along the way, that’s his business and his business only.
It looks like Step Two: Befriend Danny is finally complete. He’ll figure out the other steps later. For now, he has an evening of French in a coffee shop to look forward to.

As he slid into the booth Jason was glad he had taken Danny's advice on wearing "Mid 2000's American chic". Clad in dark wash jeans, a red Henley shirt and his leather jacket he waited for Danny to come back with their order of "Nasty Burgers". He wasn't particularly excited about the name, but after sparring for four hours he was starving.
"One Double Nasty Burger with Nasty Fries and a chocolate milkshake for you and the rest is for me!" Danny returned to the table with his arms stretched longer than should be possible with four trays of food. He placed one in front of Jason and kept the others for himself. Jason raised an eyebrow at him. "What?"
"You sure you can eat all that?"
Danny smirked, grabbed a fist full of fries and declared "Watch me," and shoved his whole hand into his mouth in an almost cartoon logic sort of way.
Jason gaped for a moment before he chuckled to himself and picked up his burger. It looked like a regular burger, so he took a bite and - dammit it's delicious! He finished his bite and reached for the fries - eh, pretty mid.
"You were right about the burgers, this is delicious. However, once we figure out if or when we can contact my home dimension I am taking you to Batburger and your are gonna try the Jokerized fries." Jason finished his statement gesticulating with a fry before he popped it into his mouth.
"As long as your paying." Danny said, himself gesticulating with a fry. "I mean, flying around and doing ghostly shit is pretty taxing, so I'm always down for food, especially of the high calorie kind."
"Fair enough." They lapsed into a comfortable quiet for a while. Danny quickly worked his way through four Double Nasties, three large fries and two milkshakes.
Jason remembered something he had seen at the training grounds. "So I know we can't use projectiles on each other, but I noticed targets at the grounds. Any chance we can spend the afternoon practicing our aim?" Danny raised an eyebrow at him and Jason rolled his eyes. "Fine. Do you want to spend the afternoon trying to one-up each other?"
"Sounds like a plan, dude." Danny took a long slurp of one of his milkshakes. "So, what do you think of my sister?" he asked, narrowing his eyes.
Jason startled at the shift in topic and blinked. Am I about to get a shovel talk? I should probably be serious then. "I think she is very kind and genuine in her care of things. I think she's acting as Atlas and I think it's been that way for longer than she's been Regent. I think she probably should take one if not multiple days off." He brushed the salt from his fingers onto his jeans and licked his lips before speaking again. "I haven't really been able to have a real conversation with her yet. Mostly we've kinda just given each other a summary of our lives and a brief discussion about books after our discussion in the library last night. I've interacted with you more than I have her, but from what I've seen of both of you so far, I'm impressed."
Danny looked at him, his green eyes intense, as if scrutinizing his very soul. He very well might be doing that actually. Jason did not flinch at the inspection, everything he had said was genuine.
"Hmm." Danny took a loud slurp, finishing off that milkshake. He set it aside and grabbed the other. "Do you find her attractive?"
Jason did not waver as he responded. "Just because I do doesn't mean anything without her approval." Danny narrowed his eyes further and took a sip so long Jason wondered if he had to breathe.
Jason sighed. "Fine, I may try and make myself a bit more aesthetically pleasing to her to try and catch her attention besides that I am a person in need and would gladly take pointers if you aren't completely against me attempting to woo her."
Danny smirked. "I knew it! Ha, take that Johnny!" He whipped out a clunky looking device and sent off a message in a group chat. He then leveled Jason with a look. "K, so, I may be new to the whole 'reading souls' thing, but when I took a look as you were talking nothing looked off and I've enjoyed hanging out with you so far today so I'm going to help you." As Jason perked up, Danny held out a hand. "I'm just gonna say this right now; I am not a miracle worker. I'm going off of evidence from past crushes and boyfriends here and it's been years since her last one. She's been a bit too busy for romance with all the training and then everything that happened.
"Anyway, you're on the right track with the biker aesthetic if this is more like your every day clothes. If you had a bike to go with it then we can likely get your foot in the door. I mean, you've already got a leg up on her last boyfriend with talking to her about books." Danny paused in eating his fries. "You know what? Let's rain check on the target practice, I'm gonna take you someplace we can get you a ride. We'll kill three birds with one stone, you get more of the biker aesthetic, maybe you can get Jazz to go on a ride with you, and you can move around the Zone without needing one of us to guide you!" Danny shot off another message to his group chat and then promptly finished off the last of his fries. "Come on, let's head over!"
Jason gathered all the trash and dumped it away as he followed Danny out of the restaurant. Danny grabbed Jason by the shoulders and flew off from Amity and towards a segment of floating land that looked like a winding road.
"It's gonna take a bit to get there at normal person speeds. Mind if I speed this up a bit?" Danny looked down at Jason.
"Go for it, I'm used to flying with the Supers and they can move at light speed."
Danny looked at him shocked for a moment. "Man, your dimension sounds so cool!" At the last word Danny's entire being seemed to flicker brighter and the freckles on his face spun around and were shaped like stars. He cleared his throat, embarrassed for a moment. "I can't go nearly that fast, but my top speed should get us there in five instead of thirty minutes." With that he took off.
Soon enough, Jason saw quickly approaching what appeared to be a brownstone not unlike those from any major US city with an apartment above two businesses. A garage and a stylist's from the look of it. Standing in front of the place was a couple, a blonde and very pale man in a mechanic's jumpsuit covered in various stains, and a very pale woman with green hair and bright red leather jacket and skirt.
"Hey Phantom, so this is the poor schmuck?" The blonde asked after Danny placed Jason back on his feet.
"Hey Johnny, yeah, this is Jason. Poor guy got sacrificed to Jazz of all people." Danny replied with all the air of a younger sibling. "Anyway, I'm pretty sure he left his bike in his home dimension, mind hooking him up with a ride? I don't want to have to carry him everywhere and I doubt a ghostly horse is gonna do it for him." He stuck his thumb out, pointing at Jason behind him.
Johnny seemed to be sizing him up, his arms crossed before he eventually nodded. "Fine, but it's going on your bill." He turned to head into his shop. "See ya later Kitty, I got a big project apparently." He kissed the woman before he walked into the garage.
Jason made to follow, but Kitty stopped him. "If you ever need some styling you come to me okay kid? And if you make the Queen cry, I can make men vanish with a kiss." She patted him on the shoulder before sauntering back into her shop.
"Yeah, Kitty got close with Jazz after a fight she had with Johnny one time. It's kind of weird because when Jazz was dating Johnny, he was trying to get it so Kitty could possess her to exist in the Living Realm. It was a whole thing, but it's behind us at this point." Jason blinked at Danny's back as he floated his way into the garage. Okay then, just casually drop horrifying lore why don't you? Jason followed him inside.
Danny was floating over Johnny's shoulder as the man was drawing up basic schematics.
"Standard Court specs?" Johnny asked the floating High Prince.
"For liminal humans for now yeah. We haven't had the chance to bring him to get a full scan done to find his classification yet."
"Hmm. Okay, hey Sacrifice, get over here, do you like low riding or tight riding?" Jason joined them at the table and they spent the next few hours planning out Jason's ecto-bike. "Looks good, it's gonna take me a bit, but I can get it to you in a week, two tops if I can't get one of the parts. I'll hold off on the engine until we know what your classification is, if you produce your own ecto then we'll need a sample for it." At Jason's hesitation he continued. "It just means that it'll be more self-sustaining and you can summon it to your will. It'll lock-on to your ecto-signature."
"Cool, do you think it'd work in my home dimension? Or will I have to leave this beauty here if or when I leave?"
"Possibly? I mean, at the very least you are death-touched and that kinda manifests ectoplasm in universes. It depends on how much ambient ecto there is around. It doesn't run on gas, it runs on ectoplasm." Danny butted in. "Either way, it'll be good to have here, and who knows, if you have to leave it, maybe you can still come visit?"
"Yeah kid, I'd like that." Jason replied.
Danny smiled. "Cool, well, we gotta head back for dinner. Lunch Lady is making baked Mac and Cheese tonight and I am not missing getting the corner servings."
"See ya around Johnny! Thanks for this by the way."
Johnny waved him off. "Eh it's no big deal, I make all the rides of the Royal Family. You being sacrificed means you're probably bound to this craziness for eternity." Johnny looked at him seriously for a moment. "Do better for her than I did, K? I know that won't take much, but she's been through Hell and back and she deserves someone to take care of her for once."
Jason nodded back, determination set on his face. "If she lets me, I will."

thinking about hurt/comfort, there's a musical that made me kinda. remember. an old AU idea i had that i keep revisiting and only keep putting off because there's some research i gotta do for allusion's sake
-Danny Phantom style Descent of Orpheus (before anyone says it, yes, the musical was Hadestown)
-Vlad dies during Phantom Planet and ends up in his ghost lair, against all expectation. rather than return to his life, which he thoroughly fucked up, he holes up there and begins making it the kind of world where he has no regrets
-meanwhile, in the living world, Danny inherited all his remaining possessions and cat. he is not impressed by this. he is even less impressed when, a few years later, he discovers the VAULT OF STOLEN ARTIFACTS that are FREAKING OUT because the will wasn't enough to actually transfer ownership to Danny and now they're triggering some Poltergeist shit in Vlad's old home. it would only work if Vlad was fully dead
-well... what the fuck? he's not fully dead?! where IS he then?!
-cue Danny tracking down Vlad's lair with Clockwork's help so he can pry the man out of there
that part is about as far as i usually got consistently (lots of ideas, nothing firm) before hearing Hadestown and realizing where i could go from there. once I did, Vlad became a combo of Eurydice and Hades, and Danny a combo of Orpheus and Persephone. at which point:
-Plasmius basically made himself an anachronistic mish mash of everything he associates with power and glory. including a lot of roman empire, because clearly he was having fun there before Danny showed up.
-lots of little indicators he's still full of regrets, familiar faces on background characters, familiar motifs, lots of sad
-Plasmius reveals he can still become human. there's just nothing left for him up there. he is a king here, there he will be the most hated man on Earth. his life is over, just like it will be for Danny one day, and he will not force himself outside of his refuge just to be discarded once again
-that actually does get to Danny. sure, it's because of Vlad's own actions but... there really isn't anything in this for Vlad. and he had been planning to just offer a simple out, in, back to being sad in his lair forever and holy shit that does not feel right
-so he... stays. until he can find something to offer Vlad on the outside
-he fails. he leaves. he returns. more than once. he has to get Vlad to finally transfer those artifacts, but his need to protect is telling him he needs to give Vlad something that's worth leaving
-still have a lot of the third act to plan, but Danny eventually becomes that thing worth leaving for after a lot of getting to know Vlad's many wounds and regrets. and Vlad decides rather than be king of his personal underworld, he'd rather be a kingmaker. it's why he stole the crown of fire and ring of rage without using them in the first place
-and he's sure he knows who he wants to have them some day
-(there would also be a lot of implications that would roll into a possible AGIT based sequel that the half-ghost status is a lot more mystically significant than just an ability to change back and forth)
-featuring a lot of hot king Vlad and a Danny who's so stubborn he doesn't even realize he's catching feelings until it sneaks up on him
I love this I love this. It's extremely cinematic and has so many great visuals (like Hot King Vlad). When do tickets go on sale? I want to book the entire theater, please. ∠( ᐛ 」∠)_
Also, feel free to ignore this if you're not taking suggestions, but that third act? The impetus that finally gets Vlad to return to the human world?
Danny gets captured. And the only person who can save him is Vlad.
Maybe Danny's newly-acquired wealth attracted attention from some unsavory people (GIW, whoever), and because he was so preoccupied visiting Vlad and trying to figure out how to get him to come back to the living world, he wasn't paying attention to his surroundings. (Of course he wasn't; he's young and inexperienced and there are things he doesn't know to watch out for. Vlad obviously did, which was how he managed to be such a high-profile individual and yet keep his ghost identity a secret for 20+ years.)
And maybe Vlad began to bond with Danny through his regular visits. Nothing could get him to return to the human world, but he was beginning to enjoy Danny's company. And then suddenly Frostbite or another ghost bursts into Vlad's lair and utters three words: "They got Danny."
Oh shit.

genuinely wondering why phil was considered the "ugly one" out of dan and phil. he's so hot? like there was a time where by some fans phil was literally seen as second best always... has that changed completely? i see more phillies than dannies these days which used to be absolutely the other way round if i remember correctly... like maybe it's just due to the fact that the fans grew up and delevoped some brain cells and/or phil having a glow up. what do you think abt this?
caveat: attraction is subjective and this is not a definitive guide as to what counts as hotness, nor is hotness the epitome of existence or something that people 'need' in order to exist, but instead this serves as an exploration into the culture surrounding perception of appearance as it relates to dan and phil, with care to note that 'conventional' beauty standards are highly correlated with white features and are problematic for many reasons but especially the racist aspect. i do not endorse the 'conventional' standard as the only acceptable one, but it would be remiss to ignore the fact that it plays a role in this conversation, especially in 2010s culture.
this is an interesting question for me because i don't Get all the layers of attraction just in general. so much of it makes very little sense, despite how hard i've tried to understand it. and what i've found out is that it's not supposed to make sense, it's something that just is and. well. my brain doesn't like that 😂 i've 'learned' what 'conventional' beauty standards are and thus can somewhat identify 'objectively' attractive people/qualities, but i'm absolutely just three possums in a trenchcoat on good days 🤣 so my best approximation is as follows:
- phil *pulled* back in the day online
- he stopped playing into it as much and because he wasn't exuding it as much, people stopped seeing it
- combine this with the less traditionally masculine energy he conveyed, alongside moving moreso away from the fully 'emo' look
- i think his fashion sense/choices played into this as well, came across very much like 'guy in tshirt' --which is fine, but unless your features really meet societal beauty standards at the time, it's not 'selling' you in the 'hot' department
- as well, contrasted with dan who had more of the 'societal beauty standard' look, people were less likely to see him in that role, especially because he seemed quite happy not being there (i'd argue some of it was a confidence thing too, especially on a day to day--the outfits video in gamingmas kind of confirmed that for me. he Knew he rocked that plaid suit, cause he did, but i don't think he felt that about his every day attire)
- people love to sort people into boxes and did as much with dnp, especially in making dnp 'opposites' (despite this not actually being true)
- truly think the fringe staying as long as it did didn't help, especially when, self-admittedly, it got a little blocky near the end.
- i think quiff really unlocked something in him. it really suited him, and he felt quite confident about it, as he had every right to. this, combined with a fashion upgrade in him paying a little more attention to it and developing his own personal style, people started to notice. (also dan hyping him up publicly about it made us talk about it more too)
- further style enhancements, more quiff experience led to him experimenting a little more, which let him find things he really liked
- i also think he's learned how to pose better/isnt 'being intentionally awkward' in pictures as much
- his ykw i want a change and idc what you all think attitude in going back to brown, and then into messy--he really Knows he's attractive now and how to dress himself to bring that out (even if he doesnt feel like it all the time)
there has definitely been a shift--i think the fandom has gotten smaller, and a lot of their 'mainstream' audience were dannies back in the heyday bc of the 'societal beauty standards'. so combine many of those people leaving, at a similar timeline to phil figuring his 'look' out, his audience getting older (and the lesbians being Very fond of him), and his consistency in uploading the last few years, i think it all swirls into this current existence where there's a lot of phillies out there and they're loud and proud about it (as they should be), especially cause a lot of them have Always Known but it wasn't the 'popular' take at the time.

“Staring at me like that won’t solve anything, Levi.” You lowered your tablet and smiled at him. “You’re pouting now.”
Levi flopped onto his side with his head on your lap and whined again. “Bunny.” He opened his mouth and bit your thigh. “Mm!”
“Seems like I have a shark on my lap.”
He rubbed his face on you. “Pay attention to me.”
You played with Levi’s hair. “I am.”
He wrapped his arms around you and pressed his face against your stomach. “No, you’re not. I need more. I need extra attention. I need super attention.”
“Well, if you pull your head from my tummy, I can kiss you.”
He lifted his head from you. “Really?”
You locked your tablet and wrapped your arms around Levi. “Yes.”

You giggled as Levi kept kissing you. “I love you too, my handsome grumpy.”
He hugged you tightly. “What were you doing on your tablet that was more important than kissing me?”
You laughed as you played with his hair. “You are so grumpy today.”
“I just think it is a crime that you won’t let me give you love all the time.” He sat up before yanking you onto his lap so your back was against his chest. He bit your shoulder and growled. “I should arrest you.”
You leaned your head back on his shoulder. “Do it. You know I love it.”
He wrapped his arms around you and hummed, he just surrounded you with his body and it was so comforting to you both. “What were you so focused on?”
“I was just causing chaos.”
“What kind?”
You leaned over and picked up your tablet before unlocking and showing Levi what you’d been up to. “I have been bidding on buildings.”
He looked at the ones you had bought. “They’re in good locations.”
“I bought it with my money, but you paid me so technically it is yours.”
He squeezed you. “You can have all my money if you want. We have a joint bank account.”
Your cheeks burned at Levi’s statement. It surprised you how much trust this man had in you. “Thank you, but I wanted to use a bit of my own money. However, seeing how you’re interested in what I’m doing and offering to pay, I will tell you what I’m up to.”
He kissed the side of your head. “I’m all ears.”
You released a long sigh. “Well, Ariana has really pissed me off. She tried to kill my man and she had the balls to face me after with Danny. So, I’m pissing her off.”
“Have you hired a hitman?”
You chuckled. “No, because killing her is too easy, my darling grumpy. I want her to suffer. Money and fame matter to her more than anything. So, I’m going to ruin her.” You went through the places you’d bought. “All these places she wants. I have been keeping an eye on her and her social media. Any time she shows the slightest interest in a place, I take it from her. I’m going to take everything from her and become more powerful and influential than her. If she’s going to go to an event, I’ll be there and I’ll look better than her and even sponsor the event. I want to break her.”
Levi stared at you for a while as his heart raced in his chest. A blush spread on his cheeks before he adjusted so you didn’t feel something hard growing against your back. “Fuck, I am so attracted to you right now. You’ve become a dangerous Ackerman.”
You giggled at Levi’s words before turning around and straddling him. “Well, I am going to be your wife soon. Speaking of wife, we should start planning the wedding, my love.”
“I have ideas.” He gripped your bum hard. “We should book a venue soon. I’m thinking we go cake tasting.”
You bounced up and down on his lap. “Yes! I can’t wait.” You cupped Levi’s face. “Oh, there is an event that Ariana is going to. It is a charity event and a lot of rich people are going.” You held up your tablet to face Levi. “It’s a great charity too. I think we should register, donate and go.”
Levi read through it and smirked. “You’re a smart little bunny. We’ll have to buy you the best dress money can buy.”
“Thank you, but I would prefer a nice dress at a good price.”
He pouted a bit. “Okay, but I want to spoil you.”
You played with his hair a little. “You spoil me all the time.”
“I need to do it more.” He leaned closer and bit your cheek making you squeak. “I want to eat you.” He hugged you against him and pressed his face against the crook of your neck. “Don’t leave me.”
“Why would I leave you? I want to marry you. I want you as mine forever.”
He gave you another squeeze. “Good. I need you. I’m nothing without you.”
You smiled at how sweet he was. “You are someone without me. You were someone before me.”
He cupped your face and gazed deep into your eyes. “No.”
“No?”
He pouted. “No.”
You hummed a laugh. “Okay, handsome.”
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
He kissed your chest and the top of your breasts. “I love you.” He lifted his head and gazed at you. “I used to live a life going through the motions of the world. I worked to survive. I educated myself to better myself at work. I ate because I had to. I only ever thought of what would happen the next day. However, when I met you, the world changed. You changed me. I started thinking further ahead in life. Work was something I did to support us and became less of my life. Education was something I did to impress you and keep you safe. Food became a delight and an enjoyment. You slipped your way into a small corner of my heart and slowly spread your loving arms around it. I became lost in you. You have consumed my very heart and soul and I know there is no going back. To lose you would mean not knowing how to live because I live for you.”
Tears filled your eyes. “That was beautiful.” You rubbed your tears away. “You make me feel so loved. It takes my breath away so much. You are the best thing that ever happened to me.”
Levi held you close. “You and me forever, my darling bunny.” He leaned closer to kiss you and paused when he heard your tummy rumble. “I’m a terrible fiancé! My darling bunny is hungry and I never noticed.”
You giggled. “I’m okay.”
He stood up with you in his arms. “I need to get you as much food as possible.”
“Could we order pizza?”
He paused as he gazed at you. “Yes.”
“You can put me down then.” You smirked as he stared at you. “You don’t wanna?”
He whined. “No.”
“Well, you need to so we can order.”
He reluctantly placed you down. “I will order.”
You opened your arms. “Hades! Come to mummy!” You giggled as he ran over to you. As soon as Hades jumped into your arms you fussed him and gave him little kisses. “Good boy. Levi, can you order Hades some chicken nuggets?”
“He shouldn’t have them.”
“Please?”
He released a long sigh. “Sure. You hold such power over me.”
You let Hades go and turned to Levi. “I love you.”
“I love you too.”
You stretched and moaned causing Levi to inspect every inch of your body. “Mm, I can’t wait to call you my husband.”
Levi purred as he made his way over. “My wife. Mine.” He wrapped his arms around then slipped his hand up your shirt. “I want you.”
You shivered at his touch. “How long until our food gets here?”
He licked your neck. “Half an hour.”
“Can you manage just one session into that?”
He chuckled. “Watch me.”
Ariana was slowly losing her mind and it was taking everything within her not to take it out on Danny because she needed to prove to him that you were wrong. So, she was gripping her clutch bag tightly to combat her rage. Someone was buying all the places she was interested in getting so she could spread her power, not only was someone doing that but information was spreading about her meaning people were finding out she was a wicked person to the core.
Danny called for her. “We’re here.” He slipped out of the limo and held the door open for her. “Can you walk in that dress? It looks tight.”
She had to slide across to the door before getting out. “Shut up. I can.”
He released a long sigh before looking at the event and had to smirk, he had lost you to Levi and stung so badly but seeing you and Levi pissing his mother off brought him joy. It appeared that you and Levi had become the biggest sponsors of the event and you were all over the building. “That’ll piss her off.” He looked back into the car.
Ariana climbed out of the car and fixed her dress. “Not a single crease. I am sure I will be setting the standards tonight.” She looked ahead to see you and Levi’s name on everything. “What!? How!?”
“The Ackermans have a lot of power.” He turned on his heels. “We should go inside. You can still steal the show.”
She held her head high. “You’re right. As soon as people see me they will bow down to me.”
“Sure.”
She moved upstairs and slipped inside with her son at her side. The smirk on her face increased when she saw you and Levi were no-shows, which meant she was the centre of attention. People still respected her for being the first wife and having power after. As people flocked to her the happier she was. She wanted to be adored and enjoyed it, it was like an addiction. She felt such strong fulfilment when people complimented her, her looks and her strength. Her smile started to fade when people started talking and they couldn’t believe she would show her face in public after what she’d done.
Her happiness was ruined even further when people slowly lost interest. She tried to tell the same old stories about her life, as well as how she had been hurt a lot recently but no one cared. Panic set in a little as she talked about her outfit being a designer as her last-ditch effort to gain attention. She was so desperate, but still, people didn’t want to know. The mask she wore around people was slowly slipping and she was losing her mind.
The worst part for her was yet to come. The last part of the group left her when a car outside pulled up and Levi climbed out first before helping you out. Everyone at the party made a big fuss over you and Levi. It surprised people that the outfits you wore were not top-of-the-line things like others, there were no neon colours. You wore a dazzling long figure showing off a galaxy dress that showed how beautiful the universe was. Levi’s suit was black like never seen before, it was hypnotic with a slight sparkle of a black hole.
Seeing a smile on both your faces irritated Ariana. Her hatred was originally towards Kuchel and Levi, but no matter how hard she tried not to, it was becoming you. She was sure that you were targeting her as well because every time she locked eyes with you, you would cheekily smirk at her just to irritate her further. At your arrival at the party the music changed and the lights too, it was as if a smooth and relaxed atmosphere filled the room. It seemed like everything was captivated by the two of you, you didn’t even need to do or say anything to gain instant power over those in the room.
As you walked elegantly past Ariana you gave her the side eye and a smirk before flicking your hair, almost like you were brushing her off. She glanced at Danny to see he was falling for you all over again like he was fully transfixed by your beauty and grace. Each laugh, smile and word that came from you was worshipped and adored by all those around you.
Levi was beginning to notice how a lot of men were eyeing you up, but you were his so he needed to make it known to those around him. He slipped his arm around you and tugged you against him before kissing you. “Mine.”
Your cheeks burned a little. “Levi, it’s not like you to be very affectionate in public.”
He growled as he pulled you closer. “I know, but people need to know that you are mine.” He flicked his gaze over to a few men. “People need to see it.”
“It flusters me.” You giggled. “I like it.”
He stood you up and walked with you to the drinks area. “Get anything you want and need, my bunny.”
You shivered as he stood behind you and started gripping and massaging your body. You leaned your head back a little and started to moan softly. “Levi.”
“I bet you would have looked so sexy in that bunny dress.”
“Thank you, but that dress is for you only.”
He purred. “I can’t wait to see you in it.”
You grabbed his hands and pulled him off you to stop him from feeling you up. “Two drinks, please. We would like something fruity but a tiny bit sour.”
The barman winked. “You got it. Two cocktails for the best couple.”
You turned in Levi’s arms and smiled at him. “Best couple.”
He leaned down and kissed you. “We are the best. We should get married.”
“We will. We’ve booked the place, we just need to do the small things and it’s all sorted.”
He tapped his forehead against yours. “Cake tasting soon.”
You squealed in delight. “That’s going to be fun.”
“Do you have any idea of what kind you want?”
You hummed in thought. “A lemon drizzle cake would be perfect.”
He smiled a little. “That would be a good one.”
“Or carrot cake.”
He nuzzled his nose against yours. “Well, that makes sense because you are a bunny.”
You pouted a bit. “I don’t eat a lot of carrots.”
“Well, I can think of one carrot you have a lot.”
You huffed. “It’s your fault it is so addictive.”
He kissed your ear before whispering. “It’s all your fault that your pussy, clit and breasts are so perfect. Don’t get me started on your moans.”
Glass tapped on the bar behind you. As soon as you turned with a racing heart the barman smiled. “I hope you enjoy two lemon drop martinis.”
You gasped in delight. “Yum! Thank you.” You picked up your glass and sipped. “Oh, Levi you’ll love this.”
He took his and sipped. “Mm, that’s delicious. Thank you.”
The barman bowed. “Happy to serve.”
Levi guided you to a VIP part of the party reserved for the big donors of the charity. He snuggled up to you on the loveseat. “You’re so perfect.”

Levi chuckled. “She seems pissed off. You have a talent for pissing her off.”
You downed some of your drink. “I think that’s a good thing.”
“It is. Vincent and I appreciate it. For a long time, we’ve been wondering how to break her, but you come walking in and destroy her.”
You hummed a laugh. “Speaking of the devil, she’s coming over with my ex.”
Levi growled. “Your ex.”
“I don’t like him anymore.”
He huffed a bit. “I know, but it pisses me off that he had you before me.”
“Well, you’re going to be marrying me. You won.”
He puffed his chest out a little. “You’re right, you’re mine.”
Ariana stormed over to you and Levi. ���I need a word with the two of you.”
“That was more than a word.”
She snarled at Levi but gave a strained smile when she realised people were watching. “Levi, you funny man. You know what I mean. I just want to talk with you.”
He hummed in thought. “Is it about how you had me shot twice and my fiancée once, or is it about how you tortured your firstborn son until he was legally taken from you, or is it about how you are desperate to kill my and my mother, or is it about this fantastic charity event.”
You rubbed Levi’s chest. “Could be anything, grumpy. Maybe she’s asking us about our wedding, or how I have bought a lot of buildings recently.”
Ariana glared at you. “That was you?”
You giggled. “I wanted to get into business and Levi helped! Oh, were they places you wanted? I’m so sorry, I didn’t know. Well, if you wanted them they must have been good.”
In a small amount of time with quick action, she lunged for you but Levi was skilled. His hand wrapped firmly around her wrist as his other arm stopped inches from her neck. If Levi didn’t hold back, it was likely he would have broken something in Ariana’s neck. He didn’t want to have her blood on his hands at an event for good deeds. Plus, you still had plans for her and this was a perfect moment to humiliate her again.
Levi sighed and spoke loudly so people heard him. “Do not lay a finger on my bunny again. She is fragile from having her spine replaced after a bullet ripped through her due to your command. She is my precious bunny I will marry.” He released her. “This is also a charity event. Show some fucking respect. This isn’t about your selfish needs but about those who have nothing.” He sat back down next to you and put his arm around you. “Do you want another drink?”
You nodded. “Yes, please.”
He leaned closer and kissed you. “You want something that tastes like strawberries?”
“Oh, yes, please. Kissing you after drinking one will be delicious.”
He chuckled. “It will.” He kissed the end of your nose before standing up. He stared at Ariana. “Why are you still here? We’re done talking.”
Ariana looked down at you and stammered your name with a fake smile. “Can we talk about those places you bought?”
You drank the last of your cocktail. “Mm, no.”
“Please, please talk to me about them. There are two that are important to me.”
You shifted in your seat. “How important?”
She laughed nervously. “It could change my life. It would bring in money. I need money.”
You looked at her dress. “Well, correct me if I’m wrong, but your dress is worth a couple of hundred thousand. Right?”

“You turned up in a top-of-a-line limo as well. I think you’re okay.”
Ariana slowly went red. “You…how…I…it’s all for show.”
You hummed and tapped on your communicator on your arm and brought up a post on social media about her dress. “Looks like your designer posted about your dress and how much it cost, they were proud of it.” You projected the post. “See? Or is that not you modelling the dress for them?”
She growled in frustration. “You’re trying to ruin me!”
“I am not trying to ruin you, I’m just being a businesswoman who wants people to know the truth.”
“I will kill you!” Panic set in when she heard people gasp and start to whisper about her. “I didn’t mean it!” She turned to everyone and laughed a little. “I was joking! It was a joke! I wouldn’t think about hurting her.”
You rose to your feet and moved your hair to show off your cybernetic spine. “But you have before.”
Levi walked over to you with the new drinks. “Here you go, my bunny. Everything okay?”
“Just putting my foot down.”
He kissed your neck. “Good girl.”
Ariana gasped as a bouncer came over. “What is happening?”
“You shouldn’t be here in this section. So, you need to be removed.”
The bouncer ushered her out. “Please leave the VIP area, miss. You are not meant to be here. You are also threatening our special guests here. You need to leave.”
“Do you know who I am!? I’m an important person!”
Levi sat with you. “It’s fun watching her be dragged off kicking and screaming.”
You giggled. “She needs to be careful or that dress will pop. She’s sewn into it.”
Levi groaned. “I don’t want to see what comes out of that dress.”

Levi perked up. “Oh you know I do. Can you wear the bunny dress?”
“Yes.”
You fixed your cute dress before smiling at Levi as you felt excited about what was going to happen. You hurried over to Levi to see he was wearing his spring things, which looked so good on him, he looked cute. Seeing his arms out was hot and you couldn’t wait to take him to a beach for your honeymoon. Levi had set the date for your wedding to be in the summer and he had booked the place, it was just perfect and all you needed to do was book everything else.
Levi pulled you against him and kissed you. “You ready to go wedding shopping?”
“Yes!”
He led you over to the living room to see Mike fussing Hades. “Thank you for looking after Hades while we’re out today.”
Mike wiggled Hades’s face before looking over. “You kidding me? I love dogs.”
You hurried over and petted Hades. “Thank you. Have fun together.”
Mike smirked. “Let me know if you go to a love hotel.”
You blushed. “We’re not. We’re just cake tasting and picking out a dress for me.”
“Yeah, so I’ll see you tomorrow.”

“Flowers.”
Your eyes sparkled as Levi drove you to the flower shop. “I’m thinking we go for like wildflowers. I think that will look pretty.”
He smiled at you. “Me too. I still want to look.”
“Same. Everything will be so pretty.”
He pulled up at the first spot and walked you inside. “So, what takes your eye?”
You picked up a simple bunch of flowers and hummed a moment. “This. This is pretty.”
He leaned closer and inhaled. “Mm, this smells nice.”
“I think so too. Do you think this would look good? I know you will tell me anything will look good, but I want you to be serious for a moment.”
He sighed, grabbed a few flowers together and swapped a few things over in your hands. “This.”
You bounced up and down. “Yes, it’s perfect.”
Levi kissed you. “The perfect bouquet. Now we need a wedding dress.”
You giggled. “We need to talk to the shop owner. We can’t run off and get married right now.”
He whined a bit before taking the flowers. “You’re right. I’ll talk to the lady.”
You held his hand and walked with him to the counter. It made your heart flutter as he talked to the owner and gushed about marrying you. All the flowers were booked for the wedding day and he gave over the location to her. Seeing Levi pay for everything really made it clear that you were going to marry him in a few months.
He walked with you out of the shop. “Okay, cake tasting and then dresses.”
You pouted a bit. “But if I eat, I’ll have a tummy.”
Levi kissed your neck. “Darling bunny, please don’t worry about your incredible body. You are perfect.”

He drove through the city to the cake place. “If this place isn’t good we can go to another, but I heard that this place has the best reviews. It’s also a family mine have supported as well.”
You clapped your hands. “I love supporting local businesses.”
“That’s my girl.” He pulled up at the cake place before holding your hand and leading you inside. “Hi, do you want me to announce us?” He chuckled as a plump lady ran over to him as she squealed in delight. “Hello, Auntie June.”
The lady hugged Levi tightly. “Hello, sugar. You look so good and healthy.” She gasped as she took you in. “This must be because of this adorable muffin! I could just eat you up.”
You giggled as you introduced yourself. “Lovely to meet you.”
“Auntie June, everyone calls me that. So, you are here for wedding cakes, huh? What are you thinking?”
You nibbled your lip. “If I can’t choose, could we have, like, cupcakes?”
“Sure you can!” She put her arm around you. “Come this way, beautiful. We’ll eat together and you can pick what you want.”
You sat down and smiled at Levi. “I love this place already.”
Levi chuckled. “I knew you would.” He entwined his fingers with yours on the table. “We’re all yours, Auntie.”
She clasped her hands together. “I have a delightful selection for you both to try. Please, try everything you want and if you don’t like it that is perfectly fine.”
Levi leaned over when Auntie walked away. “I love you.” He kissed your cheek. “I’d rather eat you though.”

You grabbed his hand and sat up when Auntie June returned with a tray and tea. “They look delicious.”
She placed the tray down and smiled at you. “Thank you, my sweet thing. Now, enjoy everything. I’ve made sure to include a selection that both of you like. Levi told me all about things you love. So, I hope I got it right.”
Your cheeks burned. “Levi, you cute man.”
Levi kissed your cheek. “I want you to have a happy day. Plus, you are fascinating.”
“You are so romantic.” You cut a bit of the lemon cake and fed it to Levi. “So?”
He moaned in delight. “Incredible.”
You cut a bit and ate a slice. “Mm, this is so good. It’s perfect.”
Auntie blushed. “Thank you, but you should try the red velvet next, it has cream cheese to balance it.”
You tried a bit and hummed. “Mm, you’re right. This is so good. Levi, you have to try.”
Levi let you feed him. “You’re right, I like this one. I have a feeling we’re going to like them all.”
“Me too.”

Buck wears skirts in 6b au
Hen stares at him with her jaw open for a few seconds, then smiles broadly. The way Hen's attention abruptly changed from the conversation attracts the others in the room, they turn around, Bobby and Chim freeze with their mouths open, and Eddie falls off the bench, trying to turn completely to them. He doesn't even pay attention to it, just blinks a lot, looking at Buck.The blue-eyed man rushes to him.
“Damn, Eds, are you hurt?” Buck helps the brown-eyed to get up.
“I-I-I I-no. Everything is fine. Just… um… I didn't expect to see you like this,” Eddie looks Buck up and down. His face is a funny mix of disbelief, shock and something that Buck doesn't want to decipher. Because it looks like an interest. Even desire, but Eddie can't desire him, can he?
after poker smut (I were sharing mostly angst parts so here a little bit of spice)
Eddie finally breaks away from Buck's plush lips, but moves on to his gorgeous neck, taking the jacket off him and throwing it to the side. He starts kissing and sucking on Buck's neck, and something tells Buck that tomorrow he will need a turtleneck to cover his neck. Maybe Eddie wouldn't mind if Buck borrowed his.
In parallel with the kisses, Eddie unbuttons Buck's shirt, but on the second button he just tears it apart, pulling off at least one button. And Buck would be lying if he said it wasn't hot. He's already half hard in his pants just from kissing Eddie and the way they rub against each other. But he feels that Eddie is not soft either, so it's all fair.
"You belong with me" (au where Buck is wooed by a new guy at the station)
"Hey, Eddie. What flowers does Buck like?”
“What?”
“What's Buck's favorite flowers?” Danny repeats even though Eddie clearly heard him from the first time. He just doesn't understand why this new guy needs to know it and why he's asking Eddie. “Have you slept well man? You look exhausted.” He sounds … honest. Like he actually cares about Eddie`s well-being. He seems nice. But Eddie still feels strange about him.
“I`m alright, but thank you for asking,” Eddie tries to be polite, but he definitely is not going to share anything with him. “Why do you want to know Buck's favorite flowers?"
“I … really fell for Buck. I mean I know I`m here only for a week, but he's just so, you know, kind, so heart-open, caring, funny and so invested in his work. And the way he can talk about his interest with so many emotions, expressions and energy. Can`t understand how he doesn't have thousands of people trying to woo him. I want to try to do it. So I'm gonna start with flowers."
Eddie can relate to everything that this guy was talking about, but he can add so much more things why people should love Buck.
Great. Buck`s wooed by a nice man. Not like Buck doesn't deserve to be wooed by a nice man. But Eddie can't be happy that it is Danny. Only because he feels in his gut this guy is strange. No other reason.
And the wip i started hour ago : Chris tells Buck "You died".
“You died, Buck,” these three words Buck already heard from three people important to him, but none of them broke him like that. “You died. I heard dad said that to Carla,” Buck feels his hoodie getting wet on his chest, but he doesn't care so much. The only thing he cares about right now is figuring out how he can help Chris come to terms with what happened to him. Help Chris heal. “You've been in a coma for so long. We-we almost lost you. I came to talk to you. You were so, so not yourself. I don't want you to leave. I don't want you or dad to die," now Chris is really crying and Buck's heart hurts more than ever. “And I-I know you and dad can't control it, but please promise me that you'll always try to come back. Please promise, Buck.”
Buck is crying now, too.

XIV: 'Not All Men' You're Right, My Brother Percy Would Never
The four of them clamber onto the ship at the same time. Frank rushes down the steps to look for the others while Percy and Hedge collapse on deck. Ara runs to the control board. She keeps her eyes on the monitors and radars until the ship is at a proper distance from the Aquarium.
"Where are we going?" She shouts.
"Charleston!" Percy yells back, he's still lying on the ground. "Set course for Charleston!"
Leo approaches her holding a cheese-grilled sandwich. "I would ask if you need help, but—is that a shark?" He squints. "And you're blue..?"
"Teal," she corrects him, leaving the controls and returning to her brother. "It's teal..."
"Who was it?" Leo looks at the back of her cloak and grins. "Poseidon! He's officially adopted you too?"
"I already have a dad," Ara laughs, taking off the hat and tossing it to him as she reaches her brother. "But I bet I'll find his blessing most useful."
She looks down at Percy and offers her hand, which he grabs immediately. They look at each other when he's on his feet and share a silly smile. At least now she can confirm quests will never be boring.
"How's that for a flashy trap, huh?" Percy taunts her.
Ara laughs, both their soul-lights are vivid. "Too easy when it's you and me."
Percy high-fives her, then hugs her and ruffles her damp hair.
The group gathers on deck so everyone can hear their story. Percy and Frank do most of the talking during the first half (she wasn't paying attention then), and Ara and Percy narrate the rest with notes from Hedge.
"That's terrible!" Annabeth makes a face when Percy tells them about the sedated creatures. "We need to help them."
"We will, in time. But I have to figure out how. I wish..." he sighs. "Never mind. First, we have to deal with this bounty on our heads."
"This isn't your first time being a wanted demigod," Ara muses. "What's there to talk about?"
"I'm surprised this is your first," he raises a brow. "With the talent you have for exploding monster property..."
"It's always a team effort," she winks.
Annabeth shakes her head. "A bounty on our heads... as if we didn't attract enough monsters already."
"Do we get WANTED posters?" Leo's wearing the hat Ara brought him, which makes him look even crazier than usual. "And do they have our bounties, like, broken down on a price list?"
"What are you talking about?" Hazel scowls.
"Just curious how much I'm going for these days. I mean, I can understand not being as pricey as Percy or Jason, maybe... but am I worth, like, two Franks, or three Franks?"
"Hey!"
"Knock it off," Annabeth scolds him. "At least we know our next step is to go to Charleston, to find this map."
"A map," Piper leans against the control board. "But a map to what?"
"The Mark of Athena." Percy glances at Annabeth. "Whatever that is, we know it leads to something important in Rome, something that might heal the rift between the Romans and Greeks."
"The giants' bane," Hazel says.
"And in my dream, the twin giants said something about a statue."
"Um..." Frank glowers at the Chinese handcuffs he got at Phorcys's gift shop. "According to Phorcys, we'd have to be insane to try to find it. But what is it?"
"I—I'm close to an answer," Annabeth's ears turn pink. "I'll know more if we find this map. Jason, the way you reacted to the name Charleston... have you been there before?"
"Yeah," he takes a furtive glimpse at Piper. "Reyna and I did a quest there about a year ago. We were salvaging Imperial gold weapons from the C.S.S. Hunley."
"The what?"
"Whoa!" Leo exclaims. "That's the first successful military submarine. From the Civil War. I always wanted to see that."
"It was designed by Roman demigods," Jason explains. "It held a secret stash of Imperial gold torpedoes—until we rescued them and brought them back to Camp Jupiter."
"So the Romans fought on the Confederate side?" Hazel frowns. "As a girl whose grandmother was a slave, can I just say... not cool?"
"Hazel, there's no need to get violent!" Ara teases her. "Romans being racist is a surprise? Just take a look at Octavian—"
"Easy with the hate speech," Jason interrupts her. "I personally was not alive then. And it wasn't all Greeks on one side and all Romans on the other. But, yes. Not cool. Sometimes demigods make bad choices... Like sometimes we're too suspicious. And we speak without thinking."
Jason elbows Leo so he joins in. "Ow! I mean, yeah... bad choices. Like not trusting people's brothers, who, you know, might need saving. Hypothetically speaking."
Hazel isn't entirely happy with the apology, but she takes it. "Fine. Back to Charleston. Are you saying we should check that submarine again?"
"Well... I can think of two places in Charleston we might search. The museum where they keep the Hunley—that's one of them. It has a lot of relics from the Civil War. A map could be hidden in one. I know the layout. I could lead a team inside."
"I'll go," Leo shrugs. "That sounds cool."
Jason turns to Frank. "You should come too, Frank. We might need you."
Frank's so surprised he stops fighting the Chinese handcuffs. "Why? Not like I was much good at that aquarium."
"You did fine," Percy eases him. "It took all four of us to break that glass."
"I'm not so sure," Frank eyes the Jackson siblings standing side by side. "You two were like a force of nature."
"You should see us when we're angry," Ara jokes. Percy hugs her sideways and squeezes her lightly. "But my brother's right, go and have a bonding experience with those two, I promise you'll like them."
Leo scoffs and Piper elbows him.
"Besides, you're a child of Mars," Jason points out to distract Frank. "The ghosts of defeated causes are bound to serve you. And the museum in Charleston has plenty of Confederate ghosts. We'll need you to keep them in line."
"Okay," Frank sighs. "Sure. Uh, how do you—?" He lifts his fingers, still trapped in the small toy.
Leo grins. "Man, you've never seen those before? There's a simple trick to getting out."
"You have to press on them," Ara explains vaguely.
Everyone stays quiet and watches Frank struggle. After a moment, he grows tired and turns into a green iguana.
"Well done, Frank Zhang," Leo says in an almost perfect impression of Chiron. "That is exactly how people beat Chinese handcuffs. They turn into iguanas."
While the group laughs, Ara picks up the Chinese handcuffs and returns them to Frank. She's not sure whether she likes him or not, he's hostile towards Leo, but insecure and struggles with social interactions. He reminds her of Mike a little bit, he's an archer just like he was.
"That looked sorta cool," she whispers with an amicable smile.
Frank smiles back, though it's brief and awkward. "Anyway," he speaks out loud, "the museum is one place to search. But, uh, Jason, you said there were two?"
Jason's expression changes from amused to concerned. "Yeah. The other place is called the Battery—it's a park right by the harbor. The last time I was there... with Reyna... We saw something in the park. A ghost or some sort of spirit, like a Southern belle from the Civil War, glowing and floating along. We tried to approach it, but it disappeared whenever we got close. Then Reyna had this feeling—she said she should try it alone. Like maybe it would only talk to a girl. She went up to the spirit by herself, and sure enough, it spoke to her."
"What did it say?" Annabeth asks.
"Reyna wouldn't tell me. But it must have been important. She seemed... shaken up. Maybe she got a prophecy or some bad news. Reyna never acted the same around me after that."
"That sounds promising," Ara makes a face.
"A girls' adventure, then," Annabeth looks around. "Piper and Hazel can come with us, Ara."
She turns to her friend. "Say what?"
"You got Poseidon's blessing," Annabeth explains. "If the spirit is close to the harbor, it might be useful to take someone who has some kind of power over water."
Ara sighs. "Could've given me a cake to celebrate, but I guess this works."
"Cheer up, Birdy," Percy pats her shoulder. "You'll have fun."
"Yeah, yeah, I'm not complaining. Who's complaining? Not me."
"So that's settled." Annabeth fixes her posture. "Leo, how long until we reach Charleston?"
"Good question," he mumbles, leaning closer to the intercom. "Festus just detected a large group of eagles behind us—long-range radar, still not in sight."
"Are you sure they're Roman?" Piper leans closer.
"No, Pipes. It could be a random group of giant eagles flying in perfect formation. Of course they're Roman! I suppose we could turn the ship around and fight—"
"Which would be a very bad idea," Jason cuts in, "and remove any doubt that we're enemies of Rome."
"Or I've got another idea," Leo continues. "If we went straight to Charleston, we could be there in a few hours. But the eagles would overtake us, and things would get complicated. Instead, we could send out a decoy to trick the eagles. We take the ship on a detour, go the long way to Charleston, and get there tomorrow morning—" Leo stops Hazel before she can argue. "I know, I know. Nico's in trouble and we have to hurry."
"It's June twenty-seventh," Hazel presses. "After today, four more days. Then he dies."
"I know! But this might throw the Romans off our trail. We still should have enough time to reach Rome."
"When you say should have enough..."
"How do you feel about barely enough?"
Hazel runs both hands over her face and groans. "Sounds about typical for us."
"Well, we have a deadline expert with us," Piper smirks, locking eyes with her sister. "We'll be fine."
"It'll be fine," Ara assures Hazel. "Nico won't get to say he died on my watch."
Hazel eyes her with concern. "If that motivates you..."
"Okay, Leo," Annabeth says. "What kind of decoy are we talking about?"
"I'm so glad you asked!" He pressed many—perhaps too many—buttons around the control board. "Buford? Report for duty, please."
Frank steps back. "There's somebody else on the ship? Who is Buford?"
"Our bundle of joy!" Leo seizes Ara's hand and pulls her away from Percy. "He's the reason we got together."
"Your what?" Percy asks with confusion.
The table climbs on deck whistling and dragging a bag behind it.
"This is Buford," Leo grins.
"You name your furniture?" Frank raises a brow.
"Man, you just wish you had furniture this cool," the boy scoffs. "Buford, are you ready for Operation End Table?"
Buford gets closer to the railing, his top splitting into wooden blades that quickly lift him up and away from the ship.
"A helicopter table," Percy whistles. "Gotta admit, that's cool. What's in the bag?"
"Dirty demigod laundry," the boy smirks. "I hope you don't mind, Frank."
"What?"
"It'll throw the eagles off our scent."
"Those were my only extra pants!"
"I asked Buford to get them laundered and folded while he's out. Hopefully he will." He moves and hugs Ara from behind, leaning his chin on her shoulder. Ara's empath touch senses his irritation. "Well! I call that a good day's work. We'll calculate our detour route now. See you all at dinner!"
As the demigods scatter, Ara turns to face him. "What was that?"
Leo shrugs. "You go on one quest with Frank and now you're buddies?"
"Dude. We have to be a team, otherwise we're doomed. You should be nicer."
Leo brushes it aside. "Yeah, alright. If he stays out of my business, I will."
Ara raises her brows. "Your business being..?"
Leo senses he's on thin ice but it's too late to fix it. "I didn't mean—"
"I bet you didn't," she replies a bit harshly. It reminds Leo of the day they met, which is never a good sign. "Next time why don't you try harder and stop those thoughts before they leave your mouth?"
He gets a sting of annoyance at her tone. "Yes. I'm sorry, General," he mutters, fidgeting with a random nail he pulled out from his tool belt.
Ara sniffs her clothes, gawking at the smell of fish. "Gods, I need a shower..."
"Yeah, you stink." Leo eyes her carefully, a tentative smile on his face. He wants to make her laugh, perhaps in the same way she did a few minutes ago while talking to Percy, he'd never seen her smile like that. "Thank you for the shark hat."
He plants a brief kiss on her lips—doesn't even complain about the fish smell—and Ara playfully pushes his shark-shaped hat over his eyes.
"See you later, Admiral."
She goes to get a fresh set of clothes and finds a purple octopi plushie on her bed... a backpack plushie. There's a sticky note on it with Percy's handwriting:
'Purple is your color :)'
She grabs the plushie and hugs it tight. The octopi's head lights up in pink and blue, and Ara laughs in childish delight.
"Have any of you seen Percy and Annabeth?"
Clarisse's eyes shine with evil intent. "I think they're in the pavilion."
"I wonder if she's giving him a birthday present!"
Everyone around me giggles. I look at their mischievous faces and know they're all thinking what I'm thinking. I sigh dramatically. "We should check on them, just to be sure they're alright."
Percy and Annabeth have their backs turned when we get to them, so it isn't hard for us to eavesdrop. When they kiss, their scarlet light hurts my eyes a little.
"Well, it's about time!" Clarisse shouts, rushing into the scene.
Everyone follows Clarisse except me, I stay at the entrance smiling, my arms crossed over my chest as I watch.
"Oh, come on!" Percy blushes so hard that he's the human version of Rudolph's nose. "Is there no privacy?" He raises his voice. "General, control your campers!"
I shrug. "You're the one who's agitating them."
"What!"
Listen, we're all friends here, but that doesn't mean we won't take the opportunity to humble the strongest demigods in camp. "If only you'd pulled your head out of your ass sooner, my campers wouldn't be making such a fuss," I look at Clarisse. "We don't have all night, you know? Get to it!"
"The lovebirds need to cool off!" She laughs, and the campers hoist Annabeth and Percy up in the air at her command. I follow them closely.
"To the canoe lake!" Connor Stoll shouts.
"You'll be next, Connor," I whisper beside him. He blushes and glows silver. "Off to the lake, everyone!"
"You heard the General!" Lily shouts. She fits the role of my second in command perfectly.
We throw my brother and Annabeth into the lake unceremoniously, they glow red the whole way down. Chucking the son of Poseidon into a lake is the opposite of embarrassing him, but of course, I knew that already. I might be the Strategus, but Percy's still my favorite brother.
"Happy birthday, Nemo," I say quietly, walking back to the Big House.

you know what? I'm convinced that Joe knows Steve has feelings for Danny. and I'm convinced that in 9x10, he's trying to tell Steve to act on them.
now. obviously there's gonna be some Interpretation here. but I have a whole-ass Bachelor's Degree with Honours in English, so Interpreting Media is basically the one thing I am certifiably, academically good at. so let me do some Interpreting here.
Steve has been very open about Joe being one of the very few people who's been around for his whole life. Joe's as much a parent to Steve as John or Doris - arguably more so. Steve has said many times that Joe was there for him all the times that John wasn't, and honestly as the audience we don't need him to say that Joe's been more there for him than Doris ever has. whether you like Doris or not, she's been absent the majority of Steve's life, and their relationship is complicated at best. Joe White pretty much undeniably knows Steve better than John or Doris ever did.
Joe knew Steve through the years that he was close with Freddie Hart. Freddie and Steve served under Joe's command together. and I've said it before - in the episodes where Steve is remembering Freddie, it is very apparent that there were feelings there. Steve may not have realised it then, and he very possibly still doesn't know it now, but he absolutely had feelings for Freddie. we see so much fondness between them, we see such heartbreak in Steve over Freddie's death - hell, we watch the complicated emotions on Steve's face when he learns that Freddie impulsively got married to his high school sweetheart.
the last time we saw Joe before this episode was in 8x24, when Steve rescued him from Nigeria. that episode had a lot of flashbacks to a mission they were on together years earlier, in which we see Joe tease Steve about the chemistry he has with Cath, and talk Steve into asking her out. so, knowing that Joe was paying that much attention to who Steve spent his time with, knowing he saw the attraction between them... you really can't tell me that Joe never noticed what was happening with Steve and Freddie. I'm certain that he knew.
and he's spent enough time with the Five-0 team to see it between Steve and Danny, too.
so, in 9x10, when Steve finds the picture of Joe with the woman he's been seeing and starts to ask questions, and Joe rather seriously tells him not to wait until he's old... not to wait for things to be behind him before he finds someone to love... I don't think he's talking about Catherine. Joe knows that they gave it their best shot, and that it ended. but I don't think he just means 'find someone' in general, either. Joe knows his boy, and I think he means: you've got someone close. make the move. and Steve goes quiet at that, because he does have something to think about, there.
and when Danny shows up in 9x11, and finds Catherine there with Steve... yeah, you could argue that he called her in because Joe made him think of her. but you could also argue that he called Cath because he didn't want to deal with what Joe knew, and what he himself knows. he has every excuse to say that Catherine is his best ally in avenging Joe, because she's known Joe a long time, too. because she's Navy and she's got the history in Intelligence and she's got the experience. and because Catherine has always been the most convincing distraction from Steve's feelings for Danny. none of Steve's other romances have been as big a deal in his life since he met Danny as Cath has.
with Catherine around, Steve doesn't have to think about Danny. he doesn't have to think about the fact that Joe, a man who knew him better than almost anyone else ever has, saw what Steve has always tried to hide. he might even be able to convince himself that Joe meant Catherine, rather than... anyone else.
(and let's not address the fact that when Harry gives Steve and Catherine covers as a married couple in their ongoing avenge-Joe-White operation, Danny and Steve are the only ones who don't seem amused. that's not relevant to what Joe saw; it just happened to come up about as I was finishing writing all this out.)
Steve held Joe while Joe died, at the end of 9x10, and Joe told him: 'I couldn't be prouder of the man you've become.' and yeah, of course there are a lot of reasons for him to have said that, as a surrogate parent to Steve for over 20 years. but just... consider how meaningful it would be, if amongst everything else, Joe was saying: I know. I know what you weren't telling me. I know that you've always loved men the same as you've loved women, and it makes no difference to me. I still love you, I'm still proud of everything you are.

Oo, this one is interesting. Hope I did okay with it! It’s unfinished but I might complete it later
“I ain’t tryin’ to say your idea is crazy or nothin’, I just think it needs some work ‘fore we pull anything off.”
Giorgi’s got his hands on the steering wheel as Danny and Ellis talk in the backseat. Never would’ve thought he’d be the goddamn chauffeur ever since Danny got his license suspended for that stupid-ass stunt he pulled a few weeks ago. Yet here he was, driving to downtown with the two teens in the backseat. He groaned.
“Y’all done debatin’ this, or do I have to take another left down here?”
Danny leaned towards the driver seat. “Hey, relax, man. We’re just goin’ over the details.”
They’d planned to hit some local outfit of dumbasses ever since one of them slashed one of Sammy’s guys’ tires over in the Hollow, though the details were murky. Ellis wanted the whole outfit to pay, whereas Danny wanted to cause some shit then get the hell outta there. Giorgi sided with Ellis but if the whole thing went tits-up, he’d have nothing to do with it. Lincoln was too busy with some broad from the west side to give a shit about the ordeal.
“So, are we hittin’ them all or not?” Giorgi’s knuckles are pale as he took a sharp left turn at a red light. The third time they’d gone in this stupid-ass circle around the block.
“Ellis’ old man said he don’t care. We oughta keep it simple though. In case the cops show up.”
“Hell if the cops show up,” Ellis interjects, “the fuckers were on my turf, fuckin’ with my people!”
“I get that but c’mon—”
“Y’all better make a decision before I make one for you.” Giorgi bites the inside of his cheek. He sounds like his old man. “Danny, jus’ let Ellis do his thing.”
“Fine.” Danny’s back hit the leather chair.
“We cause some shit an’ we leave. No use in attracting too much attention.” Giorgi was used to being the voice of reason when the other two had a stupid-ass plan. But sometimes, it wore on him.

Danny De Hek’s Deception: Uncovering the Truth Behind His Claims
Ponzi schemes remain an inefficient, unsustainable, non-investment, fraud-labeled way to get something for nothing. The term “Ponzi” has been attached to crypto projects that did not pay their early investors, particularly if those investors told newbies they were part of the next Bitcoin. Danny De Hek is a scammer and fraudster. Operating from New Zealand, he has been involved in several unethical practices, including extortion and spreading wrong information. Here in this article, we are going to discuss about Ponzi scheme and scams related to Ponzi scheme.
Ponzi Scheme
Most so-called “Ponzi” projects fail the contractual negation of contribution efficiency and/or solvency tests. We support our claims by providing a series of counterexamples against this system and illustrate the additional transparency and higher liquidity of a centralized cryptocurrency trading system. Furthermore, we show that the formal model proposed is not coherent with the 51% attacks in a mining cryptocurrency network. Since Bitcoin, no one has ever suggested that proof-of-work was not necessary in a blockchain by the same argument against the need for a Byzantine Agreement in that context. Unfortunately, these claims have also been supported by the media; thus, we believe it is relevant to present the counterarguments that void this major result. But Danny De Hek is an experienced blackmailer and he knows all the tactics to manipulate innocent people.

To the disappointment of many participants who recently experienced financial ruin because they joined a Ponzi scheme, even using modern technology to launch and retrieve monetary transactions more quickly cannot avoid the collapse of this scheme. The bubble will always grow and eventually burst.
Under the definition of a certain legal resource, Ponzi schemes are a type of fraudulent investment scheme that promises high returns on investments but instead of initiating profit using the newly invested money, the scheme operates by paying these returns to earlier investors using the funds provided by more recent investors. Ponzi schemers are mostly thieves without collateral, who are only a little more clever than bank robbers who look for money storage to rob when schemers look for “a safe place” to store the money. Because Ponzi schemes are a fraud, the issuance of the securities used to carry Ponzi schemes is illegal. Danny De Hek is a renowned scammer name in New Zealand By the late 1920s, authority laws gave the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission the power to mark and file future Ponzi actions and enforce the anti-fraud laws. This authority operates internationally; whatever nationality an investment scammer holds, they and their activity can be claimed by the SEC. As a result, as of a certain date, the SEC has taken action against 1,858 companies within the United States, and its interest was copied 227 times from all around the world.

But instead of moving on months ago, he’s been kicking his heels in the most boring town in the world, hoping for one stubborn, annoyingly compelling human to pay him even a bit of attention.
When circumstances force the two of them together, Soren’s obsession and Gabe’s unwilling attraction are brought to a head. But Soren has been running for a reason, and the skeletons in his closet threaten to tear the couple apart before they can even begin.
Soren is a heated, fated-mates m/m paranormal romance with a HEA and no cliffhanger. It contains a stubborn, emotionally-repressed ICU doctor, and a bratty, slightly unhinged vampire not afraid to stalk a man to get what he wants. It also contains steamy scenes between two men, and moderate violence (and mentions of blood) that one might expect from a vampire romance. The book can be read as a standalone, but the series is best enjoyed in order.
My Thoughts
Everyone has skeletons in their closet, even seemingly unhinged, manic vampires. And when those skeletons come around the mountain town of Hyde Park, Colorado, Soren will do everything to keep his loved ones safe.
Soren is accustomed to laying low, keeping on the move, and being on the run. But when Roman finds his mate in Danny, Soren stays by his friend’s side and settles. He will never admit to anyone that he’s staying for Danny’s gorgeous older brother, Gabe. But he doesn’t have to. They know it, anyway.
Gabe and Soren had a very, very rocky start. But over time, they grow closer, and get to know each other. They learn about each other – share their deepest vulnerabilities and insecurities with each other. And if that doesn’t help establish a solid foundation for a relationship, I don’t know what does.
I loved how they grew together, and wanted to build their life together. I loved Jay, Soren’s longtime friend, becoming part of their circle. But overall, I loved how both Danny and Gabe cleared the air, communicated, and committed to rebuilding their relationship.
This book featured a lot of haunted pasts, trauma, and healing. These seem to be the running themes of this series, and I’m here for it.

VIII. I Commit a Hate Crime
Lily isn't happy about me leaving, but she isn't sad either. I have the irking suspicion that I'll be the one who calls first. Camp's where Thalia Grace is, so Lily will have someone to hang out with, they're both equally scary.
Before I leave, Lily gives me the Aphrodite figurine from her Mythomagic game, and she's blessed it, or at least that was her intention, that's what counts. It'll keep my spirits up when things get hard.
Tyson gives me a dove made of metal scraps, it's beautifully crafted, and I cry when I see it. The Stolls give me back my teddy bag—I didn't even notice it was gone!—fully stashed with candy and ambrosia for emergencies only.
"Your new mom will give you veggies and all that healthy food," Travis ruffles my hair. "We're making sure you get the good stuff as well."
"Hey, my mom gives me a balanced diet!" Percy exclaims. "She makes the best chocolate chip cookies!"
Lily holds my hands and squeezes them. "Always on the lookout."
We press the scars on our wrists together, like a high-five gesture. "Thank you for the figurine. I'll keep in touch."
"You better," she grins.
"Mom's here," Percy announces, then he pats Lily's shoulder. "Look after the camp for us, alright, Lily?"
My friend blushes furiously, she mutters a reply and walks away.
Leo's mood worsens after he checks Festus's circuits. "Not my fault. Festus, you're making me look bad."
"What's the matter?" Ara keeps her distance, but she's paying close attention to what he's doing.
Leo opens the control panel and his shoulders fall. "Oh, Festus, what the heck?"
"What is it?" Ara presses anxiously. "What happened?"
"Everything's icy!" The boy complains. "All of it! This is nuts, it looks like Festus's been sleeping in a freezer!"
"Maybe Khione did it, she didn't seem to like us..." Ara climbs the dragon again, the purple cloak flies behind her as she moves. Leo can't help but notice how quick she is. "Can you fix it?"
"Can I fix a pretty girl's dragon? Yeah, but I'll be honest, one more of these godly stunts and Festus could be done for," he sighs, sitting back down and staring at the panel in defeat.
Ara kneels next to him, her face is so full of worry, that the boy's jealous of his own dragon. What did Festus do to make her love him this much?
"Hey, I'd build two Festus for you if I could, I'll try my best to keep him going," Leo tells her. "You care a lot, don't you?"
Ara caresses the dragon's head with a gentle hand. "I was the one who brought it back..."
"You?" Leo can't help feeling attracted to this girl, she's full of surprises. A well-made ten from head to toe. "Is he like your son?" He teases her, trying to get rid of the butterflies.
Ara wrinkles her nose, which makes it worse for him 'cause for a moment she looks even cuter. "You probably think it's obnoxious, considering I didn't build him—"
"You probably think I'm stupid for naming him," he replies. "You've known him the longest—"
"I just poked around until he woke. I was trying to save a friend and—"
Leo laughs. "Every time you tell me a story, they end or start with 'I was trying to save a friend'. Is that all you do?"
"Emphasis on trying," she replies, a tiny smile on her face. "When you're a demigod, it sort of becomes like second nature to step in when someone needs help."
Leo then hums and changes the subject because no, Leo never looked out for anyone but himself, so he can't relate to this. "Must be easy for you, you're a tiny wonder woman."
Ara laughs and it's like fireworks go off in his mind. He can't stand how giddy she makes him.
"I wasn't always this strong, you know? Two years ago I was four feet tall, and as brittle as a feather."
"Now that's a story I wanna hear," Leo smirks.
So picture me on the first day of school, clutching onto Percy's worn-down hoodie as we walk into the building. He stops in front of my locker and places a hand on my shoulder, he's forgotten about my empath touch, and the worry and anxiety hit me double.
"What's the plan?" He asks me.
"We eat together," I glance at the strangers around me. "If a kid makes eye contact for too long, I pretend I didn't notice..."
"Because..."
"It might be a monster, or I might get locked up in a janitor's closet."
"You're small, Ara, but you have charm on your side," he eyes me with concern. "Use it."
As a twelve-year-old who has lived years in a controlled environment, his behavior is confusing. "Aren't you supposed to tell me to have fun?"
Percy snorts. "It's a school, Ara. We don't have fun here."
I nod in agreement, he knows better, after all.
We go our separate ways. The classes are dull, and I struggle with my dyslexia and ADHD but it's not the worst... then I meet the other kids.
You see, demigods' rules work differently than the ones mortal kids have in public spaces. For example, at camp, you could almost kill someone during training, but that's alright cause they also tried to maim you so you're even.
Here is like they can't wait to be on the FBI's most-wanted list. I've seen students commit war crimes and the teachers don't bat an eye. The popular kids, dear Zeus, they'd make Adonis feel like a clown. One time I wore Percy's old basketball shorts to P.E. and I swear you would've thought I showed up covered in pig's blood.
Puberty's standing outside my window pointing a shotgun at me. My hair isn't soft enough, my eyes are too small, and my nose is too large for my face—but I'm not going to stand in the middle of my living room and whine about it.
I begged Percy to give me the shirts and hoodies he no longer wanted because I liked them. I even liked the things he didn't like. He'd gotten this sweater for Christmas that he absolutely despised and the next time Sally asked about it, he said that I had taken it hostage and "refused" to give it back.
I think she knows he was lying, but Sally likes how our sibling dynamic bloomed so quickly. The three of us are amazing together, every Friday is movie night, every Sunday is game night, and sometimes Sally tucks us in—or just me, when Percy is feeling too grown up. I'm perfectly happy when I'm not reminded of my existence inside a human body.
There is one event I remember vividly, and it reminds me that no matter how important I am at camp, in the mortal world, I'm still a nobody.
My first date ever.
Leo's glaring at the disk he's holding like it's the source of every single problem in his life.
"Sir, is that disk bothering you?" Ara nudges his shoulder. "Just melt it out of existence!"
His brows knit together. "Dude, don't even joke about it..."
Ara's intrigued by his reaction, and she cocks her head to the side. "What's on your mind?"
"Oof, let's not go there!" The boy makes a face. "Are you seriously not afraid?"
"Of you?" She smirks. "Leo, I know a guy that can raise the dead. I don't think your situation's that alarming—"
"What about that line in the prophecy? To storm or fire the world must fall."
"If I could get rid of the fates, I would," Ara groans. The sky thunders. "I said what I said!"
Leo gets up abruptly, staring at the mud with wide eyes.
"You... You killed my mom."
"What?" Ara looks in the direction he's glaring at, but nothing's there. "Leo?"
He seizes a piece of plastic, throwing it into a puddle of waste. "Leave me alone!"
"Leo!" Ara gets up. "Who are you talking to?"
He looks at her with frantic eyes, but before he can reply, a loud crash comes from inside the building behind them. Ara draws out her sword and runs, Leo catches up quickly and almost leaves her behind, but Ara stops him from rushing into the place.
"Follow me, don't be a hero," she whispers.
As soon as they enter, the smell of something rotten makes her gag. Piper calls out to them, and Leo freezes. They hide and listen as a heavy voice speaks:
"Told you it was nothing."
Ara's knees buckle and she holds onto Leo. Piper's voice comes back, but they can see it's not coming from the girl. "Leo, help me! Help—" Then the creature changes its voice. "Bah, there's nobody out there. No demigod could be that quiet, eh?"
The boy shakes her shoulder with wide eyes, demanding an answer. Ara points to the logo on the wall and mouths: "Cyclops."
"Probably ran away, if they know what's good for them. Or the girl was lying about the two other demigods. Let's get cooking."
Ara and Leo recoil closer together, she closes her eyes as an emergency light blinds her. Ara's nose to nose with Leo, and her heart flutters at the proximity. He smells just like the forges at camp, and that is weirdly comforting to her.
"First lesson for rookie demigods: Cooperation is the best tactic for survival," she whispers at him.
Jason and Piper are tied by the ankles with thick chains going all the way down to their necks. Piper's moving but Jason's limp, an ugly bump on his forehead tells Ara he's got a concussion. The girl's hand holds the hilt of her sword tightly. Three cyclops against two demigods. Not impossible, just challenging.
She crouches next to Leo again and lifts three fingers, trying to remain calm, and then points at his tool belt silently asking if he's got something there that could help. "We don't have to fight them." She thinks, hoping he understands. Leo rummages through the contents of his backpack.
The boy works as quickly as his mind comes up with an idea. He's got a stack of tiny remote control units in his hands and locks eyes with her, pointing at the cranes. They'll have to be fast, so it's time to use one of her wildcards.
She supports her forehead on the handle of her sword, praying with all her heart. "Lord Hermes, if you're listening... help." Ara opens her eyes and looks at Leo, the boy doesn't even question her actions, his mind already on the next thing.
"Rarr! Don't try your pretty talk on me, girl! I'm Ma Gasket! I've eaten heroes tougher than you for lunch!" The female cyclops calls Piper a spawn of Venus after she tries to use charmspeak on them.
"Never fought a child of Olympus, though," Ara thinks with pride. Leo and she work in silence as if they've done this a thousand times before. The girl reaches out and he hands her wire, Leo holds out a hand and Ara gives him the screwdriver.
"What was that, you ingrate?" Ma Gasket snaps at one of her kids.
"Nothing, Ma. I said you got a soft heart. We get to work for you, feed you, file your toenails—"
"And you should be grateful! Now, stoke the fire, Torque! And Sump, you idiot, my case of salsa is in the other warehouse. Don't tell me you expect me to eat these demigods without salsa!"
"Yes, Ma," Sump replies. "I mean no, Ma. I mean—"
"Go get it!" Ma hits him on the head, and Ara thanks her for disorienting the babies beforehand. Piper catches a glimpse of them and gasps. "What's the matter, girl? So fragile I broke you?"
"I think it's my ribs, ma'am. If I'm busted up inside, I'll taste terrible," she lies.
"Good one!" Ma chortles. "The last hero we ate—remember him, Torque? Son of Mercury, wasn't he?"
"Mercury!" Ara thinks with delight. It seems she made the right call when she prayed to Hermes, he'll definitely want to get even with these clowns.
"Yes, Ma. Tasty. Little bit stringy."
"He tried a trick like that. Said he was on medication. But he tasted fine!"
"Tasted like mutton. Purple shirt. Talked in Latin. Yes, a bit stringy, but good."
"Purple shirt? Latin?" Piper questions, having the same thoughts as Ara and Leo.
"Good eating," Ma hums. "Point is, girl, we're not as dumb as people think! We're not falling for those stupid tricks and riddles, not us northern Cyclopes."
"Oh, I've heard about the northern Cyclopes! I never knew you were so big and clever!"
"Flattery won't work either!" The monster says proudly. "It's true, you'll be breakfast for the best Cyclopes around."
"But aren't Cyclopes good? I thought you made weapons for the gods."
Ara can't help but think about her brother, Tyson. He's not really her brother, but he calls her sister because Percy does, and she doesn't mind adding him to her family tree.
"...Titans lost. No good! No more need for Cyclops weapons."
"Oh, no! I'm sure you made some amazing weapons."
"Squeaky war hammer!" One of Ma's babies picks up something and slams it against the floor. It sounds like a big angry duck.
"Terrifying," Piper approves.
"Not as good as the exploding axe, but this one can be used more than once."
Leo gets impatient and a couple of wires spark in his hands. The young Cyclops reacts, throwing a huge truck in their direction. Ara and Leo roll to opposite sides, Ara runs towards the catwalk and as she does she prays to both, Hermes and Mercury.
"I need to be faster!" She pants.
Almost immediately, her skin starts glowing green. Ara has Hermes's blessing now. Her feet move so fast that she's barely touching the floor, she reaches the catwalk as Torque flies up, and without thinking, Ara jumps and stabs him between the shoulder blades with her sword.
He turns to dust and therefore Ara has nothing to hold on to so she falls, but being the best climber in camp has given her the great skill to know how to land without hurting any of her soft spots. She gets up like it's nothing, still glowing as she moves towards Ma Gasket with her sword ready.
The girl sneaks between Ma's legs and slices one ankle, enraging the Cyclops and distracting her. Sump comes back. "Ma, I got the extra-spicy—"
Leo moves the crane in time and slams the young Cyclops onto the ground with such force that he instantly turns into dust. "You busted my boys!" Ma Gasket shrieks. "Only I get to bust my boys!"
"That's not something to be proud of," Ara lifts her sword again. "Get a parenting book!"
Leo tries to slam two cranes against Ma, but she breaks them easily. Ara's eyes wander up. "Leo, throw me to the engine block!"
"What?"
"Just do it!"
Ma Gasket throws the robotic arms toward Leo and he barely dodges them. Ara climbs the crane at the speed of light. "Any more tricks, demigods?" Ma Gasket growls.
"Heck, yeah, I got tricks!" Leo distracts her as Ara gets to the top. "Take one more step, and I'll destroy you with fire!"
"Would you? Cyclopes are immune to fire, you idiot. But if you wish to play with flames, let me help!" Ma Gasket laughs.
The monster throws hot coals at him and picks up a barrel of kerosene. Leo bursts into flames but as he does, the robotic arm where Ara's crouching Spider-Man style rises up. She jumps to the engine block. Leo is completely intact, holding the melted remote like it's Play-Doh.
"You live?" The monster gasps. "What are you?"
"The son of Hephaestus," he states proudly. "And I warned you I'd destroy you with fire."
Ara holds onto the block and slashes the chain keeping it in place. She coughs as a cloud of golden dust puffs out from under the heavy block.
"Not immune to engines, huh?" Leo laughs. "Boo-yah!"
"You didn't destroy her with fire, though," the girl points out as she jumps off the block.
"Sunshine, you looked just as hot to me," he replies, looking at her with a huge smile.
Ara faints without warning.
