Day 14, and I!!! Am so pumped to work on this!!!! @magical-game came over and we hung out and watched the Legend of Mana: Teardrop Crystal anime and y'all it was so good! I loved it so much, and I went in honestly kind of expecting to be disappointed, but no! I think it's my new favorite anime :D

Unfortunately after watching 12 episodes in a row we did dishes together (get yourself a friend who will do dishes with you), so I am Le Tiard™, which means I didn't do as much work as I wanted to. But that's okay! El's shirt and torso is shaded now, the lake has a reflection, the sky has clouds, and I've cleaned up and organized my layers so they make sense and are findable when I need to change things on them XD It's been a very good day today :3

sometimes I read a ttrpg and get caught in a loop of "wow there is a lot that's not working for me in this" + "it's so much effort to write a ttrpg, let alone publish one, who am I to criticize?" but i think criticism is fair as long as you're discerning about it! Like "this isn't a choice I would make as a designer" vs "this isn't something I would enjoy running/playing" vs "you definitely should not have written this for ethical reasons" vs "you definitely should not have written this because it mechanically does not do what you want it to do"

and all those criticisms can coexist!

OKAY time to share my two cents that nobody asked for on this scenario. yeah, I'm disappointed. ngl this is casting a pall over my replay of the series and general enthusiasm (which sucks but I know I'll bounce back very quickly, it'll take FARRR more than something like this to kill it). regardless of the impact of our choices or lack thereof, I have faith that veilguard will be a great game because I haven't been let down by a dragon age game yet. the concept of worldstates is a HUGE reason why this series is special to me, but it's not the only reason.

that being said, yeah, it's pretty fucking weird to have so... few... choices represented in the CC. especially if you think about how impactful everything that is NOT being represented is. so many things stop making sense.

we saw our choices mattering less as we moved from DA2 -> DA:I, but nothing of this caliber. its.... idk. idk what else to call it beyond weird and disappointing

we still can't say anything is for certain until we play through the entirety of veilguard itself but I'm definitely much more wary than I was before

The more I think about it the more unfair it feels that Zenos dies at the end of this. I'm like.....7-10? Quests away from "endwalker" and there is so much we don't know. Why did he dream of the end of Amaurot? Emet-selch experimented on him - why was that never touched upon again once it had been mentioned? What did he do? Why? Zenos can teleport???? Switch bodies? What was all that even for? Zenos yae galvus youre making me insane and I'm tearing my hair out of my head

Even Bleach's rushed ending is a hundred times better than what Hori served us. Literally the whole themes that were set up earlier just crash and burn with this ending

parents are begrudgingly accepting of it because well it's already in motion, it's My Life and Body, but they obviously won't be ecstatic about it. like.

Everytime I see your Pat lolcalization posts, I can't help but think if this is him overcompensating for voicing the character of n*zi germany in the first seasons of the hetalia anime.

I can't say and I'd rather not say anything about Pat's intent or own agenda or whatever -

But the interesting "lolcalisation changes" and direction give to VAs really seem to favour a certain reading of the events happening in FE16 and to this day, I still can't understand how that managed to be released without getting at least some flak.

Sure Fates' lolcalisation is a tough nut to beat and nothing comes quite close to what happened to Fates to FE16/Nopes, and yet I wish I am joking when I say nearly 80% of the lines involving Supreme Leader and/or Rhea/the CoS should be double checked, because "Dany expy bringing a revolution" has to fit in the story that is FE16, and that's talking about the washed down version of Dany some people have and not the one who uses violence for the greater good, until she starts to realise that the "greater good" is as solid as smoke and runs away from the - well-intentioned ! - mess she created.

Again, I don't think anything was malicious with the lolcalisation Fodlan got, is it just a case of misunderstanding the game and slapping archetypes and "trendy notions" to make this "strange" game sell like hotcakes in your home market?

Or is it another case of "think of the children Susan" where Susan sure as hell can't endorse a character presented as the heroine sprout disgusting things and advocate for imperialism 101 so the heroine is now rewritten?

Or is it the lolcalisation team - after looking at the jp script - try to make the general idea of "you must feel bad for this character" somehow work, because they thought no one would seriously want to walk with her and feel any sort of sad uwus for the "you have pointy ears, you cannot rule over humans" red emperor? So they modified the script and directed the VA accordingly ?

IDK, but I think if you've been long enough on this blog you know my stance on localisation and lolcalisation but this discrepency between the two versions (or at least two audios) really took me by surprise when the game was released in 2019 lol

If there is anything that makes me wanna say "I called it" on, it's the characterization of the Daycare Attendant (Sun specifically) in Help Wanted 2. My version of Sun's personality is almost exactly like the Sun in HW2, and I made him after playing Security Breach (the only difference being he cusses and that Moon is more chill).

I deadass looked at this cheerful weirdo we barely got to see in that game and went "he is both the only adult serving cunt and the most friendly guy to ONLY children out there". And now that's CANON. He is the exact opposite of that one meme image that has "fuck them kids" on it. Sun says "fuck them adults" lmao.

Pahsiv keeps talking about "that visitor", which is rendered in the Chinese text as [那位來客].

[那位來客] is pronounced "nà wèi lái kè"

Neuvillette's name in Chinese is [那維萊特]

[那維萊特] is pronounced "Nà wéi lái tè"

Has Pahsiv just been mispronouncing his name so she ends up saying visitor instead? We know she has limited usage of language so its not a far stretch
