Please elaborate on ttpd being a sargewood album 👀

hi thank u so much for caring abt the rot in my brain 💖

ok so. mayhaps i am talking out of my ass here, i havent rly fathomed the whole album yet, and there are songs i associate w/ a variety of ships/fic ideas. BUT more songs fic sargewood than any other ship so. allow me to explain.

this is all speculative to taylor swift’s life so its not #confirmed but allegedly this album is abt leaving long term relationship she felt trapped in (joe), and then rebounding in a short term fling (matty). if we look at these songs through the lens of joe=f1 and matty=indycar, therefore kyle, this is how i fathom these songs in a sargewood way.

OBVIOUSLY this does not work for many of the songs, but for the ones it does it is so compelling. also she broke up with matty anyway and he allegedly SUCKS so i’m only rly considering “early relationship” songs here.

Fresh out the slammer is probably the best example: leaving a relationship and immediately knowing where you’re going next. if logan doesn’t have a future in f1, indycar /is/ the place to go, and kyle is his connection. if he gets dropped, you KNOW kyle is one of the first people he’s calling

In So Long, London, London not only represents the place, but also Joe and their relationship. I did not come up with this, but I saw people on tiktok saying that while joe=london, matty=florida. the entire song is abt being trapped monotony of her old life (london/joe) and escaping to the new exciting florida(matty).

this fits logan just as florida proper—he can always go home and relax to take a break from the stress of f1. BUT if u wanna see it in a sargewood way--they can both escape their stressful racing lives, come back to florida, to EACHOTHER. this song makes me insane abt them fr. I also like to hear “fuck me up, florida” as “fuck me in florida” AND YOU CAN TOO

LAST SONG i’m using for this thesis, but i’m not ruling out fathoming more as sargewood through the joe=f1 matty=indy/kyle lens. it’s a long ass album, i’m employed, i can only do so much

BUT LETS TALK FORTNIGHT

this fathoming was key to me liking this song. HOWEVER while the last two can be fathomed as sargewood in general, fortnight fits a specific fic idea i have where i need to explain some lore first.

logirlie historians will know how after the 2020 f3 season, logan was in a sort of a limbo career wise before he got the call from williams and we know where it goes from there. in this time he was testing for indy, thinking his european racing career was basically over.

so the fic idea. kyle & logan have always had a bit of a ~non platonic connection~ but neither has acted on it due to the distance etc etc. but in this short period of time (a fortnight, perhaps 👀), when its looking like logan might be heading to indycar, the dam breaks and they have a short fling that is more serious than either will admit after, when it ends when logan goes back to f3.

The ACTUAL fic would be years later, where logan leaves f1 and goes to indycar in 2025(?). years have passed, and they've stayed friends this whole time so it /should/ be fine, but now that the distance is no longer an issue all those old feelings come bubbling right up to the surface. they could, of course, just communicate and get together easy peasy but that wouldn't be a fun fic would it? of COURSE it'd be messy.

I haven't written anything, it's more of just a nebulous concept rn and idk if it'll ever go anywhere but it is ALL i think abt when listening to fortnight. The florida and car reference in the bridge is just the cherry on top

And for a fortnight there, we were forever (Back in 2020/2021, what we had was real)

You huffed as you leaned back on the leather seats, the luxury you naturally surrounded yourself with didn’t provide their usual comfort for you. You watched the dreadful scenery pass outside the window with a look of sheer boredom. It was the 40s and the was waging on in full force. Herds of men traipsed around in uniform and plenty more were lining up to serve their country. You could practically smell the optimism in the dank air of Brooklyn. You rolled your eyes.

It was all so repetitive.

Immortality was repetitive. Humans were repetitive. Like all the other gods, you would often find your continuous existence tedious. You would find yourself trying to look for some sort of excitement or novelty. You sighed. You suppose you should be grateful for your nephew Ares’ wars. War always made people desperate in their needs and desires. The starving needed food. The displaced needed shelter. The rich wanted their contraband. The soldiers wanted to win and go home. Both sides wanted the death of their enemies. You were the god of death and wealth.

Business was booming.

It was because of the mortals’ penchant for destruction and greed that led you to set up shop on the surface. People were easy to please and even easier to manipulate. You need only to grant them their greatest desires and they would gladly sign over their souls. And so your reputation was born in the mortal realm. They called you the mafia. They called you the syndicate. They called you Hades.

You smirked as you smoothed down your pencil skirt, brushing away a speck of dirt from your stockings. If only they knew how spot on they were. Then again their naivety was part of the entertainment. Much better than the cursed souls that floated around aimlessly in the Underworld. Still, you were bored.

Truth be told, you had another reason why you set up a presence in this realm. Your princes. Seven princes that the Fates promised you amidst your outrage of being condemned to rule over the bowels of the Earth by your brother Zeus. Your eyes narrowed as you seethed at the memory from lifetimes ago. The Fates had tempered your rage, explained that this was destiny at work and that with this path came seven mates to rule at your side.

But gods were not known to be patient.

“Stop the car,” you said, the honeyed tone of your voice still holding such a command.

You swung your legs out as you exited, your heels clicking against the broken concrete. You steeled your expression and straightened your back as you walked with purpose toward the entrance of the building, one of many you kept all across the realm to house your operations. Since you didn’t have your princes yet, you had to employ lower level demons to manage business but they tended to get overexcited.

Just as you were about to step through the front doors, a noise from the side alley drew your attention and an unusual pull made you change your course toward it. The noise of scuffling grew louder as you approached, fists hitting skin became apparent alongside angry snarling and what oddly sounded like wheezing. As you turned the corner and the full scene was revealed to you, your breath hitched and every other sound was muffled by the loud thumping of your heart.

There in the corner of the dam dirty alley was a scrawny man with a bloody lip and his fists up against two of your demon underlings. His breathing was labored and by physique alone he was clearly outmatched nevermind outnumbered, but that didn’t seem to discourage the stubborn jut of his chin or the blazing defiance in his eyes. He looked so frail and his features were gentle, but you could practically taste the rage rolling off him.

He was beautiful.

There was that tug again. What initially felt like a flimsy string now felt thicker. More solid. Undoubtedly tied to this puzzling mortal. Your eyes widened as you recognized the truth and your heart sped up once more.

He was yours.

“I can do this all day,” your prince huffed.

No, he most certainly can not!

53. tucking a strand of hair behind your lover's ear

“It’s so much softer than I even imagined.”

Nancy still has very, very vidid moments, usually around 2am when she’s sleepless, when that little lust bug confession comes back to her and has her cringing into her pillow. The mollified look on Ace’s face as he tucked her hands away from his hair will haunt her much longer than any ghost that decides to float across their path.

The problem is… well, really, that is the problem. Or when the problem started, at least.

Nancy isn’t blind. She’d have to be not to have the first thing she noticed about Ace be that hair. It really is… it’s really something.

And up until that stupid dress powder-puffed her in lust dust, it was fine. How soft it was only existed in the abstract. She could ignore the itch in her fingertips, whenever Ace was leaning over something and a stray lock fell across his eyes, to tuck it gently behind his ear, let her fingers drift further back and run between the strands—

Actually knowing how it felt was torturous.

But she could push it down, forget about it, ignore it even. There were more pressing issues at hand.

Until Temperance gave her a glimpse into a future where she could dig her hands into Ace’s hair whenever she felt like it, and broke the dam again. To know that if she tugged on it just enough she could elicit a groan from the depths of Ace’s chest, so delightfully unexpected, that Nancy knows it’ll be playing on repeat until she gets to hear it again.

The issue is, now she knows what it feels like to cradle the back of Ace’s head as he crawls over her, holds her into the mattress, trails tender kisses down the column of her throat…

“Are you okay?”

“Hm?” Nancy snaps back to reality, swallowing around a dry throat. Ace is looking at her from his spot in front of her kitchen sink, a guarded, cautious expression on his face—an expression she hates that she put there.

“You seemed… a little zoned out.”

“I’m fine,” she says hurriedly, trying to press a subtle, cool hand to her heated cheeks. “I’m fine.”

“Well if you’re fine…” Ace says, in a tone that suggests he doesn’t believe her one iota, turning back to Ryan’s chores.

Nancy blows out a frustrated (frustrated) breath, tapping her fingers against the counter top. This little continuation of Ryan pawning out his chore wheel duties to Ace would be cute, if it didn’t mean he was in her house way too frequently for her weakening self control.

There’s only so many times you can pretend to finish paperwork at the kitchen counter while watching the subtle shift of someone’s biceps while scrubbing particularly stubborn pot roast stains out of a pan.

“Could you…” Ace’s voice draws her back to herself once more. He’s tipping his head, gesturing to the side table where he left his stuff. “Could you pass me my cap?”

Nancy nods, moving slowly around the island to get it, holding it away from herself like it’s a grenade about to go off.

Ace lifts soapy hands out of the water, searching for a dish towel and conveniently avoiding Nancy’s eye.

She sighs and comes to a stop a few inches away. “Here.” She takes one last step, eliminating the last of the gap between them, an unsteady breath catching in her chest. This isn’t breaking the rules, she tells herself, reaching out a tender hand to push Ace’s hair away from his face. This isn’t admitting her feelings, she promises, gently setting the cap atop his head.

The air stands still. Nancy can feel the heat of his body, so close in the bubble of her quiet kitchen. Somehow, with Ace looking at her in the evening light, it still feels like she’s given up her most guarded secret.

“Thanks,” he says, clearing his throat and turning back to the sink, severing the moment.

“Yeah, you got it,” Nancy all but whispers. She bypasses the counter and takes the stairs two at a time. Enough now. Enough.
