~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Eight months ago my life came to a screeching halt. I got some unexpected news that would change my life forever. I found out I was pregnant. And not only with one baby, but two. I was having twins. Curse my boyfriend’s stupid genetics. When I had to tell Grayson I was so nervous and sweaty and I felt like he wouldn’t be happy, which I mean I would understand since we were only eighteen years old. But when I broke the news to him, he was more than excited. His biggest dream was to be a father and he was happy it was happening early because as he put it, “We’ll be young parents which means we will get more time with our babies and we’ll be physically able to do more stuff with them as they get older!”. He made a good point. He also joked that a pregnancy announcement would get his youtube channel “a fuck ton of views”. I knew he was joking around just to ease my nerves and I was so grateful that he knew how to read me so easily. Telling Ethan was so fun because he almost passed out. “What the fuck dude?! I HAVE SO MANY VIDEO IDEAS ALREADY THIS IS GONNA BE AWESOME!” Ethan had shouted when he finally broke out of his shocked stillness. Cameron was so excited for us as well and offered to babysit when we needed her and she also wanted to plan the baby shower so that was another weight off my chest.
When we had to tell our parents, that’s when the real nervousness set in. Gray was adamant about presenting a united front and not letting them bully us into anything should the problem arise. We already decided to keep the babies and stay in LA because the boys careers depended on it. Grayson made more money than I ever could and if we wanted to build the life we wanted for our babies, we couldn’t leave LA. We told his parents first who ended up being extremely excited. After Grayson’s dad was diagnosed with cancer he thought there might be a chance he wouldn’t get to meet his grandchildren so he was elated at the news. Lisa was just happy that everyone else was happy and that she would have two more babies to love, it was just her mothering nature. I hoped to be as good of a mom as her.
Telling my parents was a little different. I’d always been afraid of disappointing my father in any situation so as soon as I saw him I started crying. Grayson took the lead and told my parents what was going on and I just sat there waiting for the explosion. My mom immediately squealed and started telling me what medicine I needed to take and what I was going to need, but my father sat there quietly. Not angry, not upset. Just quiet. And that wa dyne scariest part, not knowing what was coming. “Jesus christ Dad! Spit it out! Tell me how much of a disappointment I am! Go ahead!” I ended up shouting at him. He still said nothing as a small smile appeared on his face. “Sweet pea, I’m not mad at you. You’re an adult now right? You have a home correct? You have a boyfriend right? You both have good jobs don’t you? You’re doing everything right you’re just doing it early. I know you honey and I know you’ll do everything in your power to give these babies a good life. I’m proud of you.” My dad said. He hugged Grayson and I and everything felt okay.
Flash forward to today and all that calm energy from eight months ago was gone. It was the day of my baby shower and everyone was running around like crazy trying to get ready. I was so mad because I left my emergency hospital bag at home (I was paranoid of my water breaking and not being prepared) and I couldn’t help set up much but there isn’t much to do when you’re almost nine months pregnant with twins and your main form of movement is a slow waddle. Everyone was rushing around the ballroom we rented setting everything up, my mom and Lisa were getting the food on the tables, Sean and my dad were hanging banners and other decorations, Cameron was getting the music set up, and the twins were in charge of tables and chairs.
Grayson had been cranky all day and it was getting on my nerves so when he started arguing with Ethan in the middle of setting everything up, I lost my shit. “GRAYSON BAILEY AND ETHAN GRANT GET OVER HERE NOW!” I roared from the other side of the room. Everyone stood in shock and silence, the boys looked up in shock, Grayson with a look of guilt on his face. “I said NOW!” I shouted again. The twins heads hung low as they walked over to me. “Grayson I don’t know what the fuck your problem is today but you need to lock it up and stop being an asshole to your brother! He’s just trying to help and you being a dick isn’t helping! Now apologize to him!” I said, arms crossed. Grayson looked up at Ethan and said “I’m sorry Ethan. I don’t know what came over me. Thank you for helping us set everything up.” “Now hug. Go on! Hug it out!” I commanded and Grayson wrapped his arms around Ethan. From across the room Lisa said “She’s gonna be a great mom! I used to have to do that to you boys all the time!” Everyone started laughing and went back to their original tasks.
“Hey guys look at the banner!” Sean called and we all made our way over, Grayson holding my water glass so I didn’t spill it trying to waddle over. The banner Cam designed was hung proudly above the snack table and it read “Welcome To The World Dolan Twins 2.0!” We all were gasping at the beautiful font and complimenting Cam’s work when all of a sudden the sound of glass shattering stopped everything. I turned my head to see Grayson’s eyes glued to the banner and my water glass shattered on the floor. “Gray are you okay dude?” Ethan asked. As soon as his hand touched Grayson’s shoulder it was like he broke out of trance and panic flashed across his face. “I-I I uh I gotta go. I’ll be right back.” Grayson stuttered and bolted from the room. Everyone looked at me before Ethan broke the silence with “You want me to go talk to him?”. I said no and went to find my boyfriend.
I made my way outside and found Gray sitting on a bench, his head in his hands. “Gray, babe are you okay?” I asked sitting down next to him. “No! What if I can’t do this? What if I’m a bad father? What if I screw up our kids?!” He cried. “Grayson everything is gonna be fine. We have the best support system backing us up and no one is ever really truly ready to be a parent. You learn as you go baby.” I said rubbing my hand over his back. He leaned into my touch and put his head on my shoulder. “I just don’t want them to hate me. I saw the banner and I realized it’s all gonna happen soon. Those two babies are going to be in the world soon and I’m so scared I’m gonna mess up.” He whispered. “Listen, you think I’m not scared? We all are. I mean for fucks sake, our babies are going to be living in one of the most notoriously unhealthy cities in America. You think that doesn’t worry me?” I mumbled into his hair. “I thought about that. Me and E both agreed LA isn’t the best place to let kids grow up. So we want to sell the house and move back to Jersey but I wanted to ask you first. We worked out all the behind the scenes stuff and how it will work for the channel and everything will be fine. What do you say?” Grayson asked, looking up at me. “I would love that baby. See, your first good Dad decision is already done!” I laughed. Grayson smiled and helped me stand up.
My body went rigid as I stood and my mouth fell open. “Sweetheart are you okay?” Grayson asked when he realized I wasn’t following him back into the building. “Uh Gray my water just broke.” I deadpanned. “Good Dad decision number two is getting you to the hospital! We gotta go!” Grayson shouted while running to tell everyone what happened and grab the car keys. I was scared but I smiled and waiting for him to come around with the car. The porsche flew around the corner at top speed and when I opened the door to get in, Gray must have already thought ahead and grabbed the hospital bag this morning because he knew I would forget it. That’s when I knew everything would be okay. Grayson was going to be a damn good dad and I had no doubts about it.
THE END
