So the JimmyTimmy PacRim AU is ending, so it's time to give everyone a rundown of what they really want...
A detailed list of all Jaegers in the AU and what they are based on:
The first few jaegers got really long, so sorry about the long winded post. A lot of this was stuff from my planning notes, and may or may not change depending on if I contradicted myself somewhere, or if co-author @fauvester accidentally contradicted me, in which case forget what I said, Fauve has never done anything wrong in her life.
The AU Itself
This AU takes place in roughly 2030, with the Kaiju War starting around 2015
The Jaegers
Logo made by fauve tm tm tm tm
Cranium Blast
In universe:
Mark III Jaeger built circa 2020
Original pilots: Cindy Vortex and Jimmy Vortex (née Neutron)
Originally stationed at the Anchorage Shatterdome
One of only two jaegers to be successfully solo piloted (by Cindy Vortex in 2025)
Retired in 2025 after encounter with Kaiju Calamitous
Re-activated in 2030 at the Hong Kong Shatterdome with pilots Jimmy Neutron and Timmy Turner
Meta Info:
Pretty obviously based on the canonical jaeger Cherno Alpha (personally my favorite jaeger)
Unlike Cherno, Cranium Blast is a third generation jaeger that incorporated the best of the Mark I Cherno Alpha, and made some improvements (notably, escape pods)
Also unlike Cherno, Cranium Blast has a detachable conn-pod, which sits on the front of the head (see: the little white box on the head in the image)
The "head" of this style jaeger is actually a huge amount of power cells that store excess energy from the jaeger's nuclear core, which allows it to have pretty powerful armaments, in exchange for slightly less mobility.
Cranium Blast's armaments: Tesla Fist, Static Cannon (mostly made up), and a Nuclear Vortex Turbine (the canonical name of the swirly thingy on the chest of G. Danger.)
Umbral Phantom
In universe:
Mark III Jaeger built circa 2019
Original pilots: Danny Fenton and Valerie Grey
Additional pilot teams: Danny Fenton and Jazz Fenton, Danny Fenton and Sam Manson, Danny Fenton and Tucker Foley
Originally stationed at the Anchorage Shatterdome
One of only two jaegers to be solo piloted (by Danny Fenton, 2024)
Valerie Grey retired from the program after the encounter with Kaiju Plasmius in 2024
Danny Fenton continued, cycling through 3 different co-pilots in two years, before quitting the program in 2026
Standard Mark III armaments, including the plasma cannon hand.
Meta Info:
Yeah, this is just Danny's trauma mech
I kind of imagine it being a mix between Romeo Blue and G. Danger but with the classic black/white Danny Phantom colors with ecto-green accents
Art and logo made by fauve tm tm tm tm
Tigre Pantera
In universe:
Mark V Jaeger built circa 2028
Original pilots: Rodolfo Rivera and Manny Rivera
Originally stationed at the Panama Shatterdome
Two years later, Tigre Pantera was reassigned to the Hong Kong Shatterdome.
Renamed to Tigre Fantasma in 2030, after Manny Rivera and Danny Fenton became the pilot team and the jaeger was re-fitted with one of Umbral Phantom's arms.
Logo made by fauve tm tm tm tm
Meta Info:
Very obviously based on Striker Eureka, right down to the father/son jaeger pilot team.
Fauve wisely added cat ears though.
The color scheme was very obviously chosen by Rodolfo, the shiny white with gold trim.
The armaments on this one are pretty much the same as Striker Eureka, but we added cat claws because obviously.
I put Tigre at the Panama Shatterdome even though Los Angeles is closer to where Miracle City would be, but like... p much all of these cartoons are either based in North America or a fictional version of North America, we gotta spread out a little.
Samurai Bravo
In universe:
Mark I jaeger built circa 2016
Originally assigned to the Tokyo Shatterdome
Original pilots: Johnny Bravo and Jack Oda
Reassigned to Hong Kong Shatterdome in 2030
Armaments: Plasma Sword, Chest Gatling
Meta info:
If I were to pick a canon jaeger this one is based on, it's Tacit Ronin
I decided that Johnny is from Russia in this AU, because really we needed people to spread out a bit.
I gave Samurai Jack the family name Oda because I'm from the Kamen Rider fandom where Oda Nobunaga's ghost, resurrected zombie, and catholic cowboy spirit imprint are all just vibing.
Chemical X
In universe:
Mark IV jaeger built circa 2026
The only three person jaeger
Originally stationed at the Vladivostok Shatterdome
Current pilots: Rangers Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup Utonium
Reassigned to Hong Kong Shatterdome in 2030
Armaments: Triple Arms!
Meta info:
Pretty obviously based on Crimson Typhoon.
I originally had the PPGs based out of Nagasaki, but decided to put them in Russia, and built in the narrative that Johnny may have helped train them (despite having been moved to Japan)
I would, again, like to apologize for killing off the PPGs...
Unstoppable Sitch
In universe:
Mark III jaeger built circa 2020
Originally stationed at the Los Angeles shatterdome
Original pilots: Rangers Ron and Kim Possible
Reassigned to Hong Kong Shatterdome in 2030
Meta info:
I thought about assigning Kim and Ron to Russia, in my shuffling around of people, but eventually decided they could stay in North America
I would like to, again, apologize for killing Ron Stoppable
ComVee Wild
In universe:
Mark IV, built circa 2024
Originally assigned to Sydney shatterdome
Original pilots: Rangers Eliza Thornberry and Darwin
Meta Info:
Only mentioned in dialogue, not actually active in the AU
Darwin is a human in this AU, that's it, that's all I got.
Football Heart
In universe:
Mark II built circa 2017
Originally stationed at Lima Shatterdome
Original pilots: Rangers Arnold and Helga Pataki
Meta info:
Only mentioned in dialogue, not actually active in this AU
Did I have Arnold take Helga's last name because I forgot what his is? Yes. Yes, absolutely I did.
Originally this was going to be one of the still active jaegers, but there were just too many things going on so I dropped them.
Also, Helga would never die, I fully believe that if there was going to be a third solo pilot, it would be her.
Note: most jaegers past this point are mentioned in the prequel, Fools Rush In.
Puma Loco
In universe:
Mark I built circa 2016
Originally stationed at Panama Shatterdome
Original pilots: Rangers Jorge Rivera and Rodolfo Rivera
Retired in 2027 when Jorge Rivera finally retired and a new jaeger was commissioned for Rodolfo to pilot with his son.
Meta info:
Did you know there's a canon jaeger called Puma Real?
I just thought it was fun if the Riveras were still a legacy family in this AU
Hawaiian Shore
In universe:
Mark I built circa 2016
Originally stationed at Honolulu Shatterdome
Original pilots: Rangers Tito Makani and Raymundo Rocket
Retired in 2020 after death of co-pilot Raymundo Rocket
Meta info:
Fauve mentioned the Honolulu Shatterdome in a throwaway line, and I, knowing there was no Honolulu Shatterdome in pacrim canon, decided to make the Honolulu Shatterdome canon and then make everything tragic. This is my role as a radical canon inclusionist.
I need you to listen to me, I need you to hear what I am saying.......... Tito and Raymundo were gay for each other.
Rocket Power
In universe:
Mark III built circa 2020
Originally stationed at Honolulu Shatterdome
Original pilots: Rangers Reggie Rocket and Otto Rocket
Destroyed in 2024, both rangers lost
Meta info:
I actually really like Rocket Power, I promise...
You can't make a pacrim AU without killing a few Blorbos
If you were wondering, in Fools Rush In, yes, the blond guy is Sam and he's the only one of the gang that is still alive aside from Tito...
Honorable mention: "Marquez’s busted up Mark II"
This is Dora the Explorer's jaeger. No, I do not know who co-piloted. No, I do not know the name of it. It is canon to the AU though.
#my fics#the timmyjimmy pacrim au#will probably link this in the fic but not put it in the fandom tags here because woof

It's very interesting to see others' perspectives when it comes to pvp, because my own "journey" has been pretty wild.
I used to play a lot of Quake live. For like ~5 years, during 2 of those 8+ hours almost everyday. School -> Quake -> sleep -> repeat 5 days a week, sometimes even on weekends. Eventually reduced the hours and the days; and the breaks where I would not play would get longer and longer. It happens.
Best way to put it, most players would embody might makes right. If player A is better than player B, player A is always right. Many times it was clear who was better, a few times there would be a 1v1 or perhaps a damage competition on team modes. There was a sort of hierarchy where pro players>>>>old q3 players>good players>everyone else.
Pure elitism, and I loved it. I was 15 (?) when I started playing, I got really really good and all these older dudes were impressed. Not like any big event changed how I thought, but over time I realized that way of measuring people is a bit fucked up. I enjoyed playing with many "lower skill" players not to stomp but because we got along. I actually tried to not be as much of an asshole as many others were. Banter and all that hypercompetitive attitude is way behind me now. What these days people call toxic, I suppose.
Later on I played starcraft 2. I had played brood war with my friends, I met a couple semi pros who were friends of a relative of a friend, they were way too good and we were kids who had no idea how to play anything other than big game hunters and turtle. Fun times.
When sc2 released, I played ladder very seriously (terran). Like watch replays and practice and test BOs and all that. My micro was terrible but I understood that what wins games is macro, so I abused mmm and learned how to play mid/late with mech. Learned a couple cheeses, tried a few ideas that were actually really good (blue flame hellion rush vZ was so cool) and played a lot.
The vibes of 1v1 in sc2 where way more honourable(?) compared to quake. GL&HF was literally automatic, to not type it meant that I was the worst kind of imbecile. Sure some people raged at me, but many others would GG into surrender or GG, compliment you and surrender. Very little hatemail, a lot of lovemail.
I was in university at the time, so way less time. After the diablo 3 fiasco, decided blizzard was done and there was no point in being so invested in sc2. Moved on, played other games, more multiplayer coop with friends. And dayz.
For years after I stopped playing dayz, I'd have dreams were it was a factor somehow. Maybe we were in cherno. Maybe there were firefights. Maybe zombies appear. Maybe just some running through woods. Maybe some walking through a road.
According to steam, I played dayz for ~240 hours. It feels like way more. Until then, no other game I'd played combined so many things. It was a survival game, a zombie game. But also a pvp game with other players. But sometimes you'd talk to people so no reason to fight. Also a base building game (with mods). A horror game too. A running simulator, as me and my friends put it.
I got many stories but that'd be too much of a tangent. Point being, I was used to pvp in a controlled enviroment. Maybe ffa, ctf or tdm, even duels in quake. Almost exclusively 1v1 on sc2. And then just open world pvp.
Thing is, I had played a few mmos before. Played metin2 with friends for a bit. Didn't like it much but it's the "playing with friends" part that matters. Tried wow for a bit. Didn't dislike it, but it was boring. The pvp part that I was promised was like, super bad. Back to the elitism of quake. Pve was somehow even worse.
This was around the time when mobas (I'll use this term, very incorrect) were getting massive. Tried dota2, was ok. Tried lol, it was like a kids version. Got a few friends to try dota with me. Good times.
It was around this time when I had some sort of epiphany. This was what "toxic" was. People raging, complaining, insulting each other. For no particular reason. It was somehow new to me. It's one thing to get antagonized because you beat someone in 1v1, or because they are upset you used some cheese, or because you were taunting them (guilty, I was young ok).
But this was a totally new level. I assume most people who've played these games understand.
This might seem exaggeration, or a straight up lie (I don't lie): in ~5000 hours over almost 10 years, I have only raged in 1 game of dota2. We were losing pretty badly and I kept doing my best, but my team could not follow up a single time. I was playing with a friend and I got very frustrated over voice call, but even then I would not think to shout at my teammates. A girl's gotta vent ok?
Anyways, things happen, and me and my friend stopped playing dota (nothing to do with that 1 game, just life). I stayed off pvp games completely, save for ds2/ds3 invasions. It's not pvp in my mind, more like trolling to have some laughs.
So once more, I love hearing/reading about other people's experiences because they are always so different. I find it really cool how others approach these things.

open to: fellow Jaeger pilot verse: Pacific Rim note: If it’s not obvious, ‘Jindo Galaxy’ is the name of the OC Jaeger. Fellow pilot doesn’t have to be her usual partner; could be someone that they got last-minute ‘cause her partner wasn’t available, could be a more tenured pilot, etc. Go wild.
“Damnit,” she hissed. She could feel the strange lag between the time she moved her left leg and when Jindo Galaxy took a stride. She didn’t have to glance at her co-pilot but she did anyway–a habit of personality. She knew they felt it too. More than that, their minds that were once like the ocean and shore, separate but parallel, were now the air above, seeing and feeling both entities simultaneously. Her partner could sense the grimace tugging at her lip the moment her brain launched the synapses required to actually do it.
“Jindo, don’t forget to compensate for your left leg. If the right arm goes janky on you too, fall back and focus on ranged attacks,” came a voice in their earpieces. As if they both hadn’t already considered that. Their Jaeger had been in the shop just before this Kaiju had reared its ugly head. (And damn was it an ugly head, with a strange hexagonal plate making up most of its skull and an eye on every rounded corner. The tough leathery skin was stretched so tight over it that the two eyes in the center bugged out eerily.) Their right arm had been mostly repaired but no tests had been run to make sure it didn’t need other calibrations or work. The left leg had only gone through preliminary repairs to make okay to run in case of emergency, but not good to run.
And oh, what an emergency: a category 3, codename Crawler. The salamander-meets-centipede Kaiju had slithered out of the ocean at 2:13 in the morning–just an added helping of bullshit, because it’s not like most of them worked into the wee hours of the morning as it already was. Jangmi was running on exactly 48 minutes of sleep. Normally these unfortunate circumstances–a busted-up Jaeger and worn-out pilots–would have them sitting on the bench. But this thing was fast, and Crimson Typhoon had already run out of ammo trying to hit it. Striker Eureka was struggling just as much. The body was more slender than the usual Kaiju, and the pilots weren’t accustomed to smaller targets, rendering their missiles too risky to use with the city of Hong Kong so nearby. It didn’t help that the centipede-esque legs all had plates on them. They flicked left in right in perfect organized synchronization–it never once faltered because of a plate catching on another plate as it walked. And it used these long, mutli-jointed, flexible limbs to block attacks from basically any angle. As if that wasn’t enough, each leg tapered into a talon-like hoof of sorts. It was one of the strangest Kaiju she’d ever seen, considering most tended to draw inspiration from marine life or at the very least, amphibians–never reptiles or insects. Stranger still that it was putting up such a fight against both of their best teams. Cherno Alpha had to stay behind, as the Kaiju attacks had been so frequent that they couldn’t afford to send out their best but admittedly slowest and risk it being damaged. And Gipsy Danger still required a second pilot.
Jangmi had just come out of training a few months ago, and had her first real battle with a Kaiju shortly after. She was still used to the target practice on small, fast-moving objects. And that, coupled with the fact the other two clearly needed backup, was why she and her co-pilot were being sent out.
They were drawing close enough now to prepare to attack. Jangmi was of the opinion that they should at least try to engage in close-ranged combat while they could, and only fall back on their ranged weapons if the right arm went out. She thought that perhaps with 2 of them working at close-range, it wouldn’t have so easy of a time keeping up with them all. Plus, this way, Striker Eureka could hold back and provide support with long-ranged attacks when either the Jindo or the other needed to kite away for a moment. And once they ran out of ammo, then Jindo could consider taking its place as the long-range attacker. But as always, Jangmi had a habit of waiting for her partner’s affirmation on her strategy, or for their suggestion. Normally they were in agreement, but on occasion one would forget to take something into consideration, or wouldn’t notice something that the other picked up on, so it was always worth making sure the other didn’t have anything to add.

Oops I’m actually not done talking about husband and wife team Aleksis and Sasha Kaidanovsky that are totally Ukrainians or at least one of the pair.
Aleksis was born January 23rd, 1989. What else happened in 1989? Oh ya, the fall of communism in eastern europe. Note I don’t say defeat, I don’t say death. Just the fall. It lost its grip on the eastern bloc. The official fall of the Berlin Wall is actually considered November 9th 1989. Even if it took more than one day to take down all that concrete and junk.
And I don’t agree with it, but Sasha was born February 9th, 1989. I really REALLY much preferred when she was YEARS older than Aleksis but whatever (I really don’t know the point. So she was a few years older why wasn’t that okay? It was only 6 years difference). Point now is that they were both born months before the Berlin Wall began to get yanked down.
And then on top of that, they were born only a couple years before Ukraine’s official independence. They are babies when Ukraine is growing, when the tenacity of Ukraine is at an all time high since the Holodomor and subsequent war. This would EASILY affect the Ks to become the people they are now. If, of course, they are Ukrainian. They grow up hearing about all the bullshit their parents and grandparents went through, and so they now have the fate of the world resting on their shoulders. No, their Ukrainian shoulders. Ukrainians, seen as just being the dumb hick version of the slavic people. UKRAINIANS thus: holding the siberian wall for SIX YEARS. Longest neural handshake? EIGHTEEN HOURS, a universal record claimed by Ukrainians and beaten by NOBODY.
Also I think this is only in the novelization but... that remark by Pentecost about how they can get you ANYTHING? Where would that sprout from? When Ukraine was considered “the Ukrainian SSR”. When their ancestors had to find a way to get needed food or there would have been NO aleksis/sasha. When, much more recently, a Ukrainian-Jewish man stood before all the world and said “i don’t need a ride, I need ammo’. Yes pacrim happened before that last one but do you see how easy it is to squeeze into Cherno Alpha lore? The Ks die fighting until the very last because that is what their Ukrainian blood screams to do. Because they were in their early 30s when Russia invaded Ukraine. Because freedom fighter could totally be on their resume. There’s no way a team like the Ks would stay out of the war. It is what they are BEST at and they will do it in defense of their home.
ANYWAY the Ks being not only millennials but Ukrainian millennials puts them in a unique position. They have seen their world end once before. They’re not going to let it happen again.
(also we bump into the whole ‘everything east of germany is Russian’ thing. Just because Cherno is considered a Russian jaeger doesn’t mean he is or at least not his pilots. Ukraine just happens to be so far west but I can see the Ks smelling an opportunity so they pack up to become jaeger pilots. A lot of it also hinges on whether we want to operate under the idea of the Russian invasion being a thing in the Pacific Rim timeline or not.)

Listen... I just think we sould have given the best fightin jaeger some weapons. In the film we only saw them punch. Literally thats it. Based on that they were the longest serving jaeger and team with the most fights under their belts. I know in the book they have the tesla fists with he electro punch, and the shoulder s are flame throwers I think? Ad they blast Ukrainian hard house music at the kaiju to disorient them and pump themselves up... But what if Ax? Half the jaegers had wild weapons. Cherno has a second reactor to distract ya and these hands for you to catch... Like... Yall missed an opportunity.

Pacific Rim FF: As Above, So Below
“A Jaeger may only be as good as their pilots, but their roots stem from their creators. “
{Hannibal Chau X OC}
Word Count: 2,872
Rating: 18+ (M)
WARNINGS: Cursing/strong language, adult activities (smoking, drinking, smut, kinks, etc), angst, death.
The streets of Hong Kong were bustling as usual, the rain turned into a slight mist off and on throughout the day. Most people were off going home after the long day of work, but a blacked out car was headed the opposite direction of the normal. It headed towards the Bone Slums, careful about which building it was looking for, or who to look for. Deep in the middle of the district, the car stopped outside of a building built up around a kaiju hand and claw. The neon lights shining in the puddles of rain on the pavement as the back door opened.
Stacker had been trying to track her down since before the Jaeger program had been given a set date for discontinuation. They were losing Jaegers right and left, and the longer he tried to keep the program going, the worse the Kaiju force kept coming. Scientists were in a constant state of upheaval trying to predict the attacks and gain whatever they could on the Kaiju. But the Jaeger program was slipping, and to find a good engineer who knew each Jaeger top to bottom, was a task in itself.
The first was Cherno Alpha, with her parents being the ones to spearhead the project and construct the massive tank of a machine. Having been raised around nothing but Russian military and slept to the sounds of welding metal, she was the best out of them all to bring back.
Stacker headed into the building, which was obvious it was a bar or club of sorts, with glasses lining the wall above the cabinet of various liquors. Tables and chairs scattered across the open space and various signs and pool tables there. On the other side of the bar was a staircase that led up to the VIP area and office. A few employees scattered amongst the utilities preparing to open soon. Stacker looked at the bartender, who nodded and pointed at the staircase. They all knew why he was there, it wasn’t often they had military in. And when they did, it was always for their boss somehow.
Stacker made his way up the stairs, looking around the ornate decor as he reached the door. The guard nodded and left him in. The office was far different than the rest of the building. The walls were lifted with newspaper clippings and awards. Prototype models of the famous Russian machine on the desk beside a glass of what looked like whiskey.
A woman stood on the other side of the desk, looking out the window across the city. Her long, jet black hair pulled into a ponytail that trailed down over her shoulder and formed curls at the bottom. Her slim figure casting a shadow over the wall adjacent from the fireplace on the other wall. Dark brown lips and soft pale skin lit up by the glow of the fire as she glanced over her shoulder.
“Pentecost….”
A small smile formed across his lips. His stance was open, yet professional as he stood across from her at the desk.
“Talia Draider, you probably already know why I’m here.”
She smirked and crossed her arms, turning to fully face him. Her eyes are bright blue, lined with elegant winged liner and dark shadows. The way she dressed was like the kaidanovskys merged. Aleksis and Sasha practically raised this woman, so it’s no surprise she’s taken after them. A long sleeve, black shirt with a corseted laced bodice, and black sleek pants to match with laces up boots.
“Let me guess, they want me back.”
Stacker glanced around the room before looking her in the eyes. It’s obvious he wasn’t here for a simple visit to check in on her or catch up.
“How’d you know…”
“Because you’ve lost four Jaegers in a matter of months. The attacks are getting closer together and you can’t keep decent engineers who are competent enough to build or maintain them properly. You have a working one sitting there collecting dust with no compatible drivers and the wall is doing jack all shit to prevent anything.”
He couldn’t help but smile at her. She knew too well for her own good. Cherno Alpha had its picky drivers, only wanting the best on their team. But the government was even pickier, and they realized cutting their best asset for optimal operations was the biggest mistake. With years under her belt and exposure to the Jaegers since she was a kid, Talia knew the procedure inside and out.
“Yeah, they’re asking me to get you back on board. But...uh, they’re not the only ones.” Stacker set his hat on the desk and her mood shifted.
“The Jaeger program is being discontinued. PPDC believes the wall is doing what it’s supposed to do so far, so there’s no point in keeping a program that costs more than steel and concrete.”
Talia watched him, her mood changing instantly at the mention of the program being shut down. Her eyes sparkling slightly and looking up at him.
“We have six months, last stand here in Hong Kong. We’re stationed in the shatterdome and moving all the units in as we speak, and Cherno wants her girl back.”
She shook slightly as she looked over at the mannequin that had her coat. It was lined with fur trim, and donned Cherno Alpha’s name in Russian with the symbol on the back, just like Aleksis and Sasha had. She reached over and grabbed a cigarette and her lighter and lit it as she looked back over at him. Stacker smiled slightly and shook his head.
“Those things will kill you.”
“So will radiation exposure from a Jaeger, you of all people know that just as much as we do.” She smiled back at him, which made him straighten up and take his hat off the desk and put it back on. He looked at her with a slight fondness, Mako meant to him what she did to the Kaidonovskys.
“I’ll see you tomorrow then….” “Sir, yes sir.” She teased and punched his arm playfully as he turned to leave.
Hannibal and his men were preparing to close up shop for the night. With all the recent kaiju attacks, they have been out harvesting double the amounts of what they usually have been. Hannibal had his crew going double time to catch up with inventory before closing. Two of them stood outside the back door waiting for him as he exited, looking down the street he saw Talia exiting her bar after locking up. She pulled the collar of her coat up to shield her neck, the other coat folded and put in her messenger bag with the rest of her stuff. She looked both ways along the empty street, looking his way last and catching his eye. She smirked at him before turning her back and heading down the other side of the street.
“Boss…” the smaller one of the two guards went to speak to him when he spun around and grabbed him by the collar of his suit.
“We’re you about to try and tell me what to do? Last time I checked I was the one running this show.”
He let go and the man staggered back slightly. Hannibal looked back down the street to watch and make sure Tania was still there...still safe.
“I want you two to watch that woman. Make sure no one messes with her, got it?” He turned back to them and adjusted his suit jacket.
“Yes sir.” They said in unison and headed down the direction she went.
What was this, and why was he suddenly so concerned with someone he barely knows? Someone he only ever saw in passing when going out on site or just to get a drink and seeing her briefly at the bar. Hannibal shoved a hand in his pocket before going back into the building, another guard on the inside locking it behind him. He headed into his office and pulled at one of the jars on the case, revealing another room that looked to be a living quarters.
“Who the hell are you…” he mumbled to himself, looking at what looked to be a photo taken of the woman by one of his men during an outing at the bar when she was coming out of her office. He thought he had seen her before somewhere aside from when she’s at her little establishment.
He racked his brain for hours, going through the process of unwinding and getting ready for bed. He had picked up his glass of whiskey off the table when his phone rang. He scoffed and set the glass back down on the table and answered it.
“This better be fuckin good…”
“That woman you wanted us to watch? Name’s Talia Draider. Parents were dual engineers on the Jaeger program before they got killed by a kaiju attack on their way home. She was adopted by friends of the family and continued the work until she was dismissed.”
Hannibal sat on the edge of his bed as he listened. His brows furrowing.
“How the hell she end up in Hong Kong? And how the hell you find all this out in less than a few hours?”
The man half chuckled, he stood outside the apartment building he saw her go into and looked up at the window where she stood.
“She told us herself. Didn’t have to dig.”
“What do you mean she told you?! You let her see you?!”
“This one, sir, she’s not stupid. She knew you sent us after her. She said she appreciates the concern, but if you wanted to talk to just...ask. Also, whoever her folks are now, made sure she didn’t go without. Owns a bar in the slums yet has a nice place at the edge of the district.”
He couldn’t help but chuckle softly. It looks like he wasn’t going to be so cagey with this one if he wanted her, which he did. He wanted her, but not like he wanted black market items from kaijus. Not for display in his shop, or as a ‘trophy’. No, this one had meaning and he couldn’t figure out why.
“She uh- she left her number too on a piece of paper. In case uh- in case you wanted it. This chick, she’s different.”
He wanted her safe at all costs, sending his men to watch over her walks at night or pop in at the bar to keep an eye on things. He wanted her close, with him at the shop or at the bar, in his arms, her company. He wanted to hear her opinions, her thoughts and about her past.
He shook his head as he hung up the phone, laying back in bed staring at the ceiling. He was brash and cold at times. Only looking into the business and not much else for the well-being or care for others. So, why is he all of a sudden concerned about a woman who is clearly out of his range of possible suitors. And he was too busy to even put that much effort into anything to do with it. Now he’s caught some sort of interest or feelings for this woman and he’s just as perplexed about it as his men at the sudden change. He eventually drifted off to sleep after almost an hour of pondering, eventually rising to the sun the next morning.
Talia had risen before the sun, racing around getting a shower and packing her messenger bag with everything she would need. She pulled the coat up over her shoulders as she heard a horn honk out on the street. Grabbing her bag, she headed down the stairs and put onto the street where the car waited. The driver held the door open for her with a small smile. She smiled back and quickly got in the car and they headed out.
She looked out the window at the passing people and cars. It wasn’t long before they made it to the gates of the Shatterdome and the car came to a stop. The driver helped her out before getting her two bags out of the trunk. Tania looked around at the many military trucks and personnel running around, some staring and pointing at her in surprise. They would dash around to groups of people near them and talking, drawing attention towards her as she headed into the shatterdome.
Pentecost stood with two of his main technicians in the control room, going over schematics and regular calibration check ups on the Jaegers. One of his men came over and whispered in his ear, peaking his interest as he turned to see Talia. A grin spread across his face as he greeted her with a warm hug.
“You ready for this?” He asked softly as the technicians left to go about their usual business. Talia glanced around the room at all the equipment before out of the glass windows towards the main floor. Her eyes scanning each Jaeger, evaluating and taking in their upkeep and progression in development. She looked back up at him with a sly smirk.
“You didn’t tell them, did you.” she already knew that this wasn’t brought up to the Kaidonovskys. Pentecost was a soft one for reunions, and it wasn’t just the jaeger drivers that didn’t exactly know just yet. Their maintenance crew knew beforehand so they could assist with keeping the secret until otherwise. A small yet mischievous smile spread across his lips, which in turn made her do the same.
“Not exactly, but it wouldn’t hurt them to have a little bit of a surprise now would it?”
Talia shook her head and laughed before he led her out of the control room and down towards the main hanger. As they walked, he ordered one of his higher ranking officers to call everyone together for a brief announcement. Everyone started slowly coming together as they stopped what they were doing. Some of the Cherno crew wrapped around the back behind Pentecost, shielding Talia from any possible view of their drive team as they approached the front beside Striker’s team.
“Everyone, I know you all have been concerned about the recent termination notice by the PPDC of the Jaeger program. It is with a heavy heart that this is true, and we have been given a last chance to defend ourselves here in Hong Kong, which will not go unnoticed or without valor. I have called each and every one of you here for your bravery and relentlessness towards this war. Striker Eureka, Crimson Typhoon, and Cherno Alpha.”
Pentcost gestured towards each Jaeger and their set of drivers before looking around the room, his eyes falling on the drive teams, the Kaidonovskys last, He took a deep breath and smiled wide before going back to addressing the room.
“This is our last stand, so why not go out with full force. As stated, only the top candidates have been pulled for this final mission. With that being said, a Jaeger may only be as good as their pilots, but their roots stem from their creators. Each being individually crafted with care by only the top engineers, and I promised them both that their work will continue as long as this program stays active.” Pentecost started to smile as he spoke, seeing the blonde pilots start to perk up the more they heard his words.
“Everyone, please welcome back combat engineer Talia Draider, daughter of the late Amaree and Nicholai Draider, and now Aleksis and Sasha Kaidonovsky.”
Pentecost moved to the side of where he stood, the crew of Cherno following suit to reveal Talia standing in the middle of them. The last person barely got to move out of the way before Aleksis was already rushing over and picking her up in a tight hug. The echo of applause and cheering were drowned out at this point to the three of them as Sasha came up beside them with tears in her eyes as Aleksis set Talia back down on her feet and got a hug of her own.
The crowd dispersed after a few minutes, giving them more space as they talked quietly. Talia looked over at Pentecost with a wide smile on her face as he came over.
“I’ll give you three some time to catch up. Just keep an eye and ear out in case. Welcome home, kid.” He smiled back at her before leaving them be.
Talia watched him go before she was gently tugged by Sasha taking her hand and leading her off to a more quiet space. It was true, she was home again. Back with what she knew best, with the people who cared for her so much and gave her everything to live a good life. But she couldn’t stop thinking about the night before, in the street where she saw him. It was like a magnet, drawing her in more and more and she couldn’t understand any of it.
She wanted to know who he was, to know more about him. And why he had an interest in her...

The best of “A Rare Thing, Indeed” - day 2
Another prologue piece, this time a job posting for the Asset Retrieval Team (full text on AO3).
Since jaeger-kaiju battles take place in the Anteverse in my fic, there needed to be some way the PPDC got its mangled jaegers back so the Precursors couldn’t reverse-engineer the tech. And, uh, to also bring home any fallen heroes.
(This also gave me a way to name-drop Cherno Alpha’s first pilots - cadet Vik Malikova’s parents.)

I'm in the mood to talk Sea Change AU
I never actually outlined this one outside of conversations with @argusden, but I'm going to do that now because I rewatched KOTM and PacRim and looked at a whole bunch of sad Upraisin things and I have Emotions.
So there are a few divergences here in that Mako and Raleigh were never expected to sit out the Double Event, BabyTachi aka Dave was born sans umbilical cord like a dolphin (which would have made more sense anyway imo) and Lady Danger being nuclear isn't special (and she's called Lady Danger rather than the other thing because it sounds cool and isn't racist).
Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon make it out of the Double Event mostly unscathed, but Lady Danger and Striker Eureka are destroyed. Herc's escape pod makes it to the surface, but Mako, Raleigh and Chuck are sadly unaccounted for.
Pitfall is now in the hands of the Wei Tangs and Kaidenovskys, who are all perfectly able to complete the mission. Technically.
Unfortunately, the PPDC doesn't have all the information they need. Fortunately, they have a mostly-competent science team off to drift with a kaiju and get that information. Unfortunately, Dave is hungry, and promptly fucks off back to the Anteverse after a nice meal of overconfident dipshits. This is, obviously, not ideal.
Typhoon nukes itself in place of Striker, and Cherno hits the Breach. Sadly, with no-one to pass on the information they need to get in, they don't make it through. I'm still unsure of whether or not to let our favourite Russians live, but either way they haven't had the best day.
So the Breach remains open, and humanity is fucked. Except...nothing else is coming through.
So the Shatterdome remains open and monitoring the Breach, with an increasing sense of dread. Stacker adopts another kid (Amara), Herc starts rebuilding the Jaeger program, Karla takes over the science division and gets an intern (Madison Russell), and they mourn their losses.
On the one-year anniversary of Pitfall, there is movement in the Breach. Just for a moment, and then it's gone. No monster rises from the waves. It's dismissed as a false alarm.
And that's when shit gets weird.
Somehow, Raleigh Becket, Mako Mori, Chuck Hansen, Newton Geiszler, and Hermann Gottlieb are alive and well.
It's not possible.
Nothing could survive what they went through.
At least, nothing human...

football manager 2020 review
As the personal tales, of which there are hundreds, pile up, an increasing number of humans are discovering a brand new elegance of wonderkids. It remains to be visible if those players will have the real lifestyles careers of Lionel Messi and Sergio Aguero, or if they may be earmarked as Football Manager cult heroes like Cherno Samba and Tonton Zola Moukoko.
At just 17 years of age, Ansu Fati has already made his mark within the Barcelona first-group. football manager 2020 free The winger, born in Guinea-Bissau, made his first-crew debut in August towards Real Betis, with Fati turning into the third-youngest goalscorer in La Liga records when he scored towards Osasuna.
Myron Boadu is already a Dutch international, making his debut for the Netherlands of their 5-0 win over Estonia, scoring the final purpose. It seems as although the 18 year-old is destined for stardom, earmarked as a celebrity guy for AZ Alkmaar despite having most effective made round 30 first-team appearances.
Boadu has an immediate cost of €five.1m, with the hitman having a 3-big name potential and 4-and-a-half-famous person potential. He'll be the variety nine of your goals, in case you're able to get him early.
This is one off the overwhelmed music, even though all of the satisfactory wonderkids come from strange and unusual places. The disappointing factor approximately UD Las Palmas' 17 12 months-antique starlet Pedri is that he's already agreed a deal to join Barcelona. football manager 2020 free The Catalans paid €5m for the attacking midfielder's services, and it's now not tough to peer why. Pedri simplest made his first-team debut in August, but has already bagged 3 desires in just ten games.
Football Manager have additionally visible the capacity in the playmaker, giving him a four-and-a-half of-megastar capability. His cutting-edge capability is only two-and-a-half of-stars, which means his value is simplest €666k, which means that there may be a good buy to be had.
Here's a young lad which you ought to realize about already. Nicolo Zaniolo has revamped 50 appearances for Roma with the aid of the gentle age of 20. The midfielder has been the problem of switch hobby from the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, having best moved to Roma as a make-weight in Inter Milan's pass for Radja Nainggolan. Zaniolo already has 5 caps for Italy under his belt.

@rebelsdroid || plotted starter.
It was agonizing to watch -- to listen -- as two of their best pilot teams FAILED. TWO KAIJU at one time was unheard of -- much less two category four. If he had any nails on the rounds of his fingers, he would’ve threatened to dig them into the table he was leaning against with an inhuman force ; jaw taut as he huffs out a long and heavy breath. Gypsy Danger was suiting up to go out -- and, he hoped that Stacker’s infamous Mako Mori was able to hold her own against the drift this time. And even still -- Gypsy Danger and Striker Eureka was not a match for the two kaiju if it had already taken out Cherno Alpha and Crimson Typhoon. Cassian couldn’t watch this anymore ; pulling aside another J-Tech he knew, whispering something about going to speak to Tendo for him, before leaving the Jaeger bay quickly -- snatching two Jaeger suits off a table as he went and dropping the bag over his shoulder as he brushed past two Ranger trainees -- “Kaylar-” he’s hissing under his breath, shoving one of the bags that held the Jaeger suit into his stomach with a force that may or may not be unintentional - “You wanna play hero, then? Get that on, quickly -- Jaeger bay 5. Five minutes.” Time was ticking away just as quickly as the influx of Kaiju coming from the breach -- humanity was failing, and ..... -- Well, he might be a dead man either way if that was the case. Might as well die inside of a Jaeger, even if it was with a man who had never been inside of one before.

Battlebots Season 5 Episode 5: What the hell was that?
Spoilers follow. If you don’t wanna know what happened, you don’t wanna read this . I mean, you may not want me to read this anyway, but I thought I should let you know about the spoilers just in case.
So, about last week…I wrote a pretty mediocre recap of the action and then my cat jumped on my keyboard. Thanks to Squarespace’s baffling decision not to implement an autosave feature, the whole post was lost and, frankly, wasn’t worth re-writing. Let’s move on.
Fight 1: Black Dragon v. Claw Viper
A couple of 1-0 bots squared off in the opening fight. Claw Viper had the more impressive win, showing tremendous mobility against HiJinx. Black Dragon’s win was a little more controversial, a split decision over Kraken that wasn’t especially convincing.
Claw Viper performed their customary box rush which was rendered ineffective by Black Dragon lining up at a diagonal and immediately moving out of the way. Claw Viper bumped into the wall, but unfortunately for them, Black Dragon’s drive and weapon were actually working this time around and the Brazillian spinner got a couple of good hits.
The hits didn’t do anything flashy, but Claw Viper just sort of stopped working. “Not working” is enough to start a countdown and that’s what happened. Pretty impressive win for Black Dragon, which is good, because it wouldn’t be Battlebots without a bot from Brazil in the tournament.
Winner: Black Dragon (Knockout)
Fight 2: JackPot v. Ghost Raptor
The low-budget rookie JackPot came in on the back of a win over SubZero, while Ghost Raptor was 0-1 after getting knocked out by Shatter. I didn’t really want to see either of this bots lose, what with JackPot having a compelling backstory and Ghost Raptor coming back after a four year layoff looking like Cherno Alpha in Pacific Rim.
The bots went weapon to weapon right off the bat and this didn’t go well for Ghost Raptor. JackPot’s giant spinning disc knocked Ghost Raptor’s spinning bar clean off the top of the bot. Ghost Raptor gamely attempted to do some shoving and lifting, but every time it got int he way of JackPot’s weapon, the floor got littered with bits of Ghost Raptor.
One hit split Ghost Raptor in half, and that, as they say, was that. I don’t know how JackPot will fare against a top-tier bot, but this was a very impressive win.
Winner: JackPot (Knockout)
Fight 3: Grabot v. SubZero
This was the maiden fight for Ben Davidson’s Grabot, a grappler of some sort, featuring a couple of “hands” and some chain thingies. It looked complicated. SubZero was coming off a lost to JackPot and, honestly, years and years of losses.
Grabot sort of limped out of the gate and SubZero, possibly not able to believe it’s luck, dove in and flipped Grabot on its back.
Grabot does not have a self-righting mechanism.
So, SubZero spent the next few minutes tossing Grabot around until the flipper rang out of gas but by then, Grabot was done. The cool looking grapple things never came into play, which was disappointing, but it was nice to see SubZero finally get a win.
Winner: SubZero (Knockout I think, maybe it was a unanimous decision, I can’t remember)
Fight 4: HUGE! v. Hydra
This is the fight everyone is talking about and for all the wrong reasons. This was probably the worst fight I’ve ever seen in Battlebots and I’m a little surprised they aired it. HUGE! came in at 0-1 having lost an epic battle against Mammoth. Hydra was 1-0 after taking a split-decision against Witch Doctor.
If you’ve been around Battlebots for a while, you probably remember the famous Ghost Raptor/Icewave fight where underdog Ghost Raptor mounted a pole with a V on the front in place of their spinning bar. They used it to keep Icewave at bay, eventually flipping the horizontal spinner bot and knocking it out.
Hydra’s Jake Ewert, having seen HUGE! dismantle Bronco last year, decided to take this to an extreme and mounted a giant C-shaped bar to the front of his bot. His strategy was to negate both robots’ weapons, force HUGE! into a corner, and just collect the win.
If that sounds like a boring, chickenshit strategy, you got it exactly right. HUGE! kept trying to get around or through the safety bar but could only make a little minor contact with Hydra. Hydra just patiently corralled HUGE! into the corner and sat there. The referee told him to back off and he refused until he was threatened with…whatever action a referee can take.
That was the whole fight. What total garbage. The judges gave the fight to Hydra. I’m not sure what the thinking was. Neither bot did any damage. Hydra had total control but precisely zero aggression (actually, you could argue negative aggression). How do you judge a fight like that?
To make it worse, Ewert was a complete dick about the whole thing. I’m team whoever-is-fighting-Hydra from here on out. It’s an amazing bot, easily the best flipper I’ve ever seen, but if he’s too scared to fight? Screw him. The folks at Battlebots weren’t amused, either:
Second fight this season where there was willful nonuse of an active weapon. There WILL be a penalty for this next season. #BattleBots
— BattleBots (@BattleBots) January 8, 2021
Winner: Hydra (unanimous decision)
Fight 5: Aegis v. Fusion
This marked the first fight for Chris Sparzo’s Aegis, a Kevlar-armored, shield-shaped flipper. Fusion came in at 0-1 after having failed to do much of anything in it’s first fight. Still, Fusion is a Team Whyachi bot, so you’d have to think it was a heavy favorite, especially as Kevlar seemed an extremely curious choice for armor.
Literally nothing happened for the first 15 seconds of the fight. Both bots came out of their square and…did nothing. Finally, Fusion’s weapons came online and Aegis was left to wonder what might have been had they attacked when their foe was helpless.
As it happened, Aegis actually got a good run at Fusion, but they fired their flipper too early, leaving them utterly helpless. Fusion ripped open the sides of the defenseless bot and kept attacking even as the count was going because they could, I guess.
Winner: Aegis (Knockout)
Fight 6: Big Dill v. Lock-Jaw
Both of these bots came in at 1-0 thanks to victories over hapless opponents. Big Dill actually worked pretty well in their win over Atom #94, but Lock-Jaw sputtered badly in their fight, but since it was against Captain Shredderator, they had the luxury of just waiting for their opponent to knock itself out.
Neither bot really impressed, but it’s always a pleasure to watch Donald Hutson drive Lock-Jaw. He got his bot flipped over early on, but it didn’t make a lot of difference. He bent one of Big Dill’s lifting forks and very nearly knocked ‘em out, but the pickle bot managed to get moving and see out the match.
It was more entertaining than I made it sound, as there were sparks a-plenty, but neither bot packed the punch to really put the other to the sword and that’s not a good sign for Lock-Jaw.
Winner: Lock-Jaw (unanimous decision)
Fight 7: Witch Doctor v. Kraken
Both of these bots came in at 0-1 after suffering split-decision defeats to Hydra (Witch Doctor) and Black Dragon (Kraken). It’s a little strange to see the main event be a battle of winless robots, but in this case, it made sense: Witch Doctor was a finalist last year and Kraken has made unbelievable strides from being a hopeless gimmick bot to a pretty strong control bot.
The two went head to head immediately, and you’d think that that would have favored Witch Doctor. However, just like in the fight against Hydra, the weapon system let them down. One of the two discs broke and the bot was now unbalanced and couldn’t spin the weapon at full speed.
Kraken spent most of the match biting into one or another part of Witch Doctor and running them around the box. From time to time, Witch Doctor would get their weapon going and managed to rip off some of Kraken’s armor. Kraken responded by tearing a belt off of Witch Doctor.
This was a really good fight and it went to the judges, who all agreed on the winner and I think they got the call right: A huge upset for Kraken.
Winner: Kraken (unanimous decision)
Obviously, the HUGE! v. Hydra fight was the big talking point here. People have been saying this was nothing new, that it was essentially the same as the Ghost Raptor/Icewave fight and Beta/Rotator tussle. Neither of those comparisons really hold water though: Ghost Raptor won by knockout after all and Beta charged headlong into their opponent which certainly qualifies as “aggression.” This was just anti-fighting and it was egregious enough that the rules will be changed so we won’t be subjected to this B.S. again next year.

@artistic-ape YOU ASKED FOR THIS
the BASIC PREMISE is that Steve is Raleigh and Sam is Mako. or the other way around. either way. that’s what started it:
Steve n Bucky were a pilot pair vis a vis Raleigh n Yancy for their jaeger Avenger Maverick, and Bucky was killed (or lost his arm, but ‘killed’ fits the movie more and also makes it sadder, lol) in a kaiju attack and Steve had to kill the kaiju and pilot it back to shore alone, where he then left the program because of trauma, which, y’know. understandable. he comes back after Fury goes to recruit him bc jaegers are dropping like flies and the kaiju just keep coming, where he meets ~*~Sam Wilson~*~, the love of his life, who has also been recruited by Fury after having been out of the game for a while after losing his own partner, Riley, and their jaeger, Falcon Dynamite
when they get there its the last open shatterdome in the world bc every other world politician has decided to back General Thaddeus “Shitstain” Ross and his frankly fucking idiotic pacific wall program. there are still only four jeagers available - Aurora Immediate, piloted by Wanda and Pietro Maximoff (think the Kaidonovskys); Strike Team Delta, piloted by Natasha Romanoff and Clint Barton (think the Wei triplets; more about them later); and Guardian Renegade, piloted by Thor and Loki Odinson. (think the Hansens; also more about them later)
Panther Maelstrom, piloted by King T’Challa and Princess Shuri of Wakanda, had to leave the program when their father died to take over ruling in his place, but are still helping on the sidelines by providing new technology and calculations and such when and where they can. Defender Olympia, piloted by Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson, was taken out alongside Terra Infinite, piloted by Peter and Gamora Quill, several years earlier after fighting the first Cat 3 on record, though all four pilots did manage to survive thanks to the escape pod tech they had available. (can you tell how much I don’t like people dying lol.) they have not reentered the program bc the program no longer has the money to afford to make new jaegers, and theirs were unsalvageable
Iron Roadhog, piloted by Tony Stark and James Rhodes, had just recently been knocked down for the count au-timeline-wise - Tony came away pretty banged up but otherwise alright, but both of Rhodey’s legs were broken, so even if their jaeger wasn’t completely unsalvageable anyway, they wouldn’t be piloting it any time soon, so both of them have been working with Bruce Banner, Betty Ross, and Jane Foster on breach calculations and how to stop the kaiju in the mean time. their jaeger was the only one that could fly for any length of time on its own aside from Falcon Dynamite (Roadhog utilized thrust from blasters, while Falcon utilized built in jetpack-and-wings combo to get some lift; both worked fine). Tony and Rhodey designed that thing from fucking scratch, and it was one of the best and oldest. the two of them actually worked a little (or a lot) on all of the jaegers, and they feel the hit every time one of them goes down. it primarily used missile, laser, and blaster/repulsor tech as its main weapons; it was also the only one to use an arc reactor to power it, as Tony didn’t trust anyone else with the technology, since practically anyone could get their hands on a jaeger when it goes down, especially in the sea, what with the currents. (cleaning Roadhog up to make sure no arc reactor debris made it into the wrong hands was an Event)
more on Wanda & Pietro: they’re still mutants, but not, like, “artificially made” I guess, they were born that way. the drift makes things really weird for mutants, its been found out, because apparently their powers can transfer in the ghost drift afterward. they don’t keep them, but its wildly disconcerting. their jaeger has a hard time keeping up with them (a giant metal robot can only move so fast no matter how fast you run), but it can handle Wanda’s whole... energy... thing... fabulously. they can make all kinds of weapons with it, its very versatile, which makes Aurora very, very effective
more on Nat & Clint: originally I was gonna go full-on Wei triplets and give them a three-manned jaeger w Coulson as the other piece, but I’m still not 100% on if I want him to be a jaeger pilot or want him to be like Tendo coaching from the sidelines. either way, Clint 100% calls their jaeger ‘STD’ for short bc he’s a little shit and Natasha always hits him for it. their martial arts training doesn’t translate well in a giant body often weighed down not just by itself but by water, but they make it work, and they have built in crossbows on both arms, to utilize Clint’s special skill-set, as well as what can only be described as giant wrist tasers (Widow’s Bites) to pack a punch
more on Thor & Loki: they are still asgardian in this au. just bc I want them to be bc how fucking awesome would an asgardian jaeger be. especially with those two, lightning and vicious storms in the middle of the ocean fucking up the kaiju, meanwhile, Loki has fucking magic, he could make illusions to confuse them, or conjure fire, or ice, or giant blades - its endless. (the only problem for him would be power, but maybe the drift w Thor would amplify it too? who knows!) to be fair though, their first drift was... Not Great. as a matter of fact, some would say it was a downright disaster. Thor fried all the circuitry in the room and destroyed another in a rage, while Loki, ah, vomited, and accidentally dropped the aesir glamor he had, showcasing all his blue glory while simultaneously freezing the entire room. they are very drift compatible (98% in fact, right after Steve n Bucky and T’Challa n Shuri, with Wanda n Pietro taking to top slot of 99%, and Tasha n Clint and Tony n Rhodey bringing up the rear behind them at a slightly lower 98% lol). their first drift was so disastrous because 1) sharing memories from hundred if not thousands of years, instead of just decades, and 2) the whole “you’re the golden child, Odin loves you more, he hates me, you hate me, everyone hates me, I hate me” thing w Loki kind of made Thor realize how fucking shitty his brother’s life was and what kind of impact he had on it and how pissed it made him at himself, and Loki realizing that Thor actually did love him, and just... ugh. brotherly bonding, afterwards. lovely. (I love Ragnarok can you tell)
ANYWAY, the rest of the movie proceeds as such: Steve and Sam, like Mako and Raleigh, test to see that they’re drift compatible (which or course they are), and their first official drift in the newly revamped “Falcon Maverick” goes as poorly as Mako and Raleigh’s because this time they both have shitty my-partner-got-ripped-out-of-the-cockpit-too memories. Sam’s is the one who chases the rabbit first, so to speak (like Mako). meanwhile, Tony, Rhodey, Bruce, Betty, and Jane are all working on the breach, and Tony and Bruce (mostly Tony) come up w the idea to drift with the brain segment they have (like Newt), which the other three resoundly dismiss because its practically suicide (like Hermann), but they DO IT ANYWAY because WHAT THE FUCK DO THEY HAVE TO LOSE. Rhodey and Betty wind up being forced to stay at the shatterdome for calculation work while Tony and Bruce go out to find another kaiju brain from whoever Hannibal is in this au, I have no idea, my first idea was Loki but I wanted him to be a pilot too badly to follow through with it SO, Tony and Bruce go out into the Hong Kong Bone Slums with, surprisingly, Jane in tow, as their babysitter to keep them from doing anything more stupid to compromise the mission, and those three together do the joint drift w the kaiju brain like Newt and Hermann and rush back to give the shatterdome the bad news
during this, Aurora Immediate, Strike Team Delta, and Guardian Renegade (like Cherno Alpha, Crimson Typhoon, and Striker Eureka) are battling it out in the Hong Kong harbor and actually, y’know, doing better, bc they have asgardians and mutants on their side, but its still pretty tight, so Falcon Maverick is sent out to wrap it up. they come out with no casualties, unlike in the movie, but Aurora Immediate and Strike Team Delta are still too damaged to follow through with Operation Pitfall, especially since they definitely don’t have the resources or the time to prepare them for it, so even though Wanda, Pietro, Natasha, and Clint are still alive they still can’t be of much use at that point (and they’re pretty injured, so), so Guardian Renegade and Falcon Maverick face it alone
like in the movie, two Cat 4′s and one Cat 5 leave the breach, but Guardian, having asgardian pilots, does better at fending them off, but they’re still losing. blah blah blah, they blow the bomb and make it out safe thanks to Loki’s magic and also their alien physiologies, and Steve and Sam go in to finish the job. it ends a lot like the movie after that, but with no dead bodies! ayy! good times
#avengers#avengers au#pacific rim#pacific rim au#samsteve#(arguably)#tonyrhodey#(also arguably)#Text Post#this thing is planned the fuck OUT I have WHOLE NAMES for these motherfuckin jaegers#I GOT this#artistic-ape#;)

@pseudonyist
"Damnit,” she hissed. She could feel the strange lag between the time she moved her left leg and when Jindo Galaxy took a stride. She didn’t have to glance at her co-pilot but she did anyway--a habit of personality.
The salamander-meets-centipede Kaiju had slithered out of the ocean at 2:13 in the morning--just an added helping of bullshit, because it’s not like most of them worked into the wee hours of the morning as it already was. Sunmi was running on exactly 48 minutes of sleep. Normally these unfortunate circumstances--a busted-up Jaeger and worn-out pilots--would have them sitting on the bench. They flicked left in right in perfect organized synchronization--it never once faltered because of a plate catching on another plate as it walked. And it used these long, mutli-jointed, flexible limbs to block attacks from basically any angle. As if that wasn’t enough, each leg tapered into a talon-like hoof of sorts. It was one of the strangest Kaiju she’d ever seen, considering most tended to draw inspiration from marine life or at the very least, amphibians--never reptiles or insects.
Sunmi and her partner had just come out of training a few months ago, and had their first real battle with a Kaiju shortly after. They were still used to the target practice on small, fast-moving objects. And that, coupled with the fact the other two clearly needed backup, was why they were being sent out.
They were drawing close enough now to prepare to attack. Sunmi was of the opinion that they should at least try to engage in close-ranged combat while they could, and only fall back on their ranged weapons if the right arm went out. But as always, Sunmi had a habit of waiting for her partner’s affirmation on her strategy, or for their suggestion. Normally they were in agreement, but on occasion one would forget to take something into consideration, or wouldn’t notice something that the other picked up on, so it was always worth making sure the other didn’t have anything to add.

A land of multiple identities
THE HUNSRÜCK IS a high plateau between the Moselle and Rhine rivers, known for its wind turbines and its burbling accent. Heimat ist da, wo man schwätzt wie mer (home is where people talk like us), as they say in these parts. The German word Heimat can mean landscape, custom, identity, home, family and habit. It is associated with the Hunsrück thanks to a three-part film, “Heimat”, set in this region. An epic tale spanning multiple generations of one rural family from the inter-war era to the post-reunification Germany of the 2000s, it is the focus of the Hunsrück Museum in Simmern, the largest village in the area. The film and the museum are enjoying a renaissance.
Growing divisions in Germany, and the rise of the far right, have recently made Heimat the hottest topic in the country’s politics. “People have a need for comfort and Heimat,” as Jens Spahn, the new health minister from the CDU who is tipped to succeed Angela Merkel, recently put it. Germany’s new government even has a Heimat ministry, part of the interior ministry. A society that is rapidly becoming more open and fragmented is harking back to tradition.

The biggest change in recent years has been large-scale immigration. Germany does not have a long tradition of welcoming people from other cultures. The Italians and Turks imported into West Germany to alleviate labour shortages in the post-war economic boom were called Gastarbeiter (guest workers), implying that their stay would be limited, and few efforts were made to integrate them. In a speech in 1982 Alfred Dregger, a CDU grandee, famously said that “the return of foreigners to their Heimat must be the rule, not the exception.” For decades the only truly accepted immigrants were ethnic Germans from eastern Europe.
That old Germany is becoming more heterogeneous. In 1990 Germany’s football team contained only German names (and one Polish-German one); in the European Cup championship in 2016 it contained a Boateng, an Özil, a Podolski, a Sané and a Gómez, among others. In politics, the share of MPs with a migrant background has tripled since 2009. Dunja Hayali and Cherno Jobatey, Germany’s best-known breakfast-TV personalities, have roots in Iraq and the Gambia respectively. Many of the immigrants who have been integrated are from EU countries in eastern and southern Europe. Germany is increasingly becoming an Einwanderungsland (immigration country).
This has happened gradually. Simmern’s first substantial contact with foreigners was in the 1950s, when American servicemen moved into a nearby airbase. Older locals say this was the first time they met anyone of colour. Then in the 1960s Turkish guest workers started to arrive, followed in the 1990s by Russian-Germans from the Volga. Even the tourists from all over Europe landing at Hahn airport, a cold-war air base turned into a budget airport, contribute to the mix of languages.
Over a dinner of lahmacun (Turkish pizza), baklava and tea in Simmern’s tiny mosque, members of the Turkish community say there is still plenty to do. “It is all about your name: if you’re called Mehmet, you’re Turkish, whatever your passport says,” says Mehmet Ali Kaya, chairman of the mosque’s board. A woman in a headscarf jokes that she should change her name to Hildegard. Such observations—voiced in perfect German—point to the challenges of integrating newcomers into a society as rigid and rule-based as Germany’s.
Around the corner from Simmern’s mosque a much more basic form of integration is under way. Eight new arrivals—three Syrians, two Afghans, two Eritreans and a Pakistani—are taking elementary German lessons in the Café Friends. This is the newest wave of immigration into this quiet corner of the country, set off by the refugee crisis in 2015 and its aftermath. Mrs Merkel’s decision to keep the country open in the face of a huge influx that summer seems to have been based on a mixture of pragmatism (there were no obvious alternatives) and idealism (Mrs Merkel, who came from the east, would later explain: “I grew up behind a wall and have no desire to repeat the experience”). “We’ll manage it,” she told her compatriots. Almost two-thirds of the 1.2m who arrived in 2015-16 have stayed on.
What do we do now?
“For three months the only thing we talked about was, ‘what do we do now?’,” recalls Andreas Nikolay, Simmern’s mayor. The first task was to house the new arrivals. Tents went up at Hahn airport, which at the peak of the crisis accommodated 700 people; then refugees were sent to emergency centres like the nearby Haus Helvetia, a handsome Wilhelmine mansion overlooking the Rhine. It is rented by the municipality and run by a charity, Caritas, whose theme last year was “Together we are Heimat”. As part of this programme locals and refugees have met up on nature walks and at cooking lessons. Angelika Hillingshäuser, the local co-ordinator, reckons that “you can have more than one Heimat…My grandparents came from East Prussia.”
Germany is doing better than most at integrating its immigrants, according to a survey of 5,000 refugees by the European Network Against Racism. It found that 51% of refugees there are taking part in integration programmes, compared with 34% in Sweden and 11% in Greece. Examples of this Willkommenskultur (culture of welcome) can be seen across Germany. At the high school in Simmern, for example, teachers decided to add maths and vocational training to the compulsory language lessons for migrants. In one maths class a small group of teenagers, all relative newcomers, respond in confident German when asked what jobs they would like to do. One wants to become a metalworker, another a computer programmer. A 16-year-old Afghan girl wants to be a painter. “Germany is very calm,” she says.
Volunteers have played a big role. Simmern’s Café Friends is run by locals. The emphasis is on learning the language, “a bridge to the future, to a new Heimat”, says Bernadette Boos, who teaches German there. Encouragingly, many of those helping out are themselves former immigrants, including Russians, Poles, Spaniards and Lebanese, says Tahir Sucubasi, a second-generation Turkish immigrant running Simmern’s integration programme. Ralf Wilhelmi, one of the German volunteers, is upbeat: “You don’t feel polarisation here like you do in big cities.”
In the big cities, it is true, the picture is different. Unaccompanied young men, some traumatised by war, make up a large share of Germany’s refugees, and they tend to gravitate to metropolises. In cities like Berlin applications for asylum and appeals can take years. For those left in limbo, there is not much to do. They are banned from working, and spending money provided by the state is stingy. So tens of thousands of frustrated, poor and sometimes violent young men are at large.
Sometimes the frustration boils over. The mass sexual assault on women in Cologne on New Year’s Eve in 2015, mostly by Arab men, has become a cause célèbre, as has the attack in December 2016 by Anis Amri, a 24-year-old Tunisian who had been denied asylum six months earlier. The truck he drove into a Christmas market in Berlin killed 12 people. In Lower Saxony violent crime in the two years to 2016 rose by over 10%, with more than 90% of the increase attributable to immigrants. Anti-Semitism, too, is on the rise; on December 8th last year a crowd burned a Star of David at Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate in protest at President Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. A recent wave of knife attacks by and among refugees in the eastern city of Cottbus brought local protesters onto the streets.
None of this much affects the life of the average German, but a sense of insecurity has crept in. A country with folk memories of the Gestapo and personal recollections of the Stasi is having to get used to armed police patrolling its markets. In 2015-16 the number of small-arms licences surged by 85%.
The big question is whether a civic form of German-ness—a pluralistic Heimat—is possible. The Christmas party in the Haus Helvetia is encouraging. There is a piano, candles, baskets of clementines, coffee and cake. German and refugee kids run around and sing a Christmas carol, Lasst uns froh und munter sein (let’s be happy and cheerful). Young Pakistani men awkwardly stand round the edge. Shahzad Uddin is looking forward to the summer, and cricket matches on fields by the Rhine. Mahmood Abbas, from Faisalabad in Punjab, is showing pictures on his phone from a recent Ahmadiyya festival in a nearby town where about 1,000 fellow refugees with posters formed a giant German flag. Mr Abbas pauses and explains: “My Heimat is Germany.”

Ghanaian duo Papa Arko and John Antwi among foreign strikers who shined in the Egypt Premier League away from Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC
Ghanaian forwards Ernest Papa Arko and John Antwi has been listed in top five foreign strikers who shined in the Egypt Premier League away from the two giants Al Ahly SC and Zamalek SC.
There have been so many strikers who have graced the Egypt top-flight. Some have come from other African countries, others also came from the South America and Asia.
Here is a review of those who succeeded playing for other sides and not Al Ahly and Zamalek SC.
John Utaka
The former Nigeria attacker played for El Mokawloon and Ismaily SC where emerged as top scorer of the Egypt league before heading to Qatar.
Utaka went ahead to play European clubs Racing Lens, Stade Rennes, Montpellier all in France and also played for English side Portsmouth FC.
Utaka represented Nigeria at the World Cup in 2002 and 2010.
The former Enugu Rangers forward returned to Egypt to play for Ismaily again before moving to Nogoom El Mostakbal and Aswan SC.
Ernest Papa Arko
The Ghanaian forward spent over ten years in the Egyptian premiership playing El Gaish, El Mokawloon, Smouha SC and Entag El Harby.
He had a short stint at Zamalek SC but wasn't successful.
Papa Arko played with top players during his time and was the Egypt league top scorer in the 2008/2009 season.
Even though he didn't win the top scorer award again, he was a consistent scorer making him one of the all-time top scorers in the history of the league for his series of brilliance.
John Antwi
Antwi started with Ismaily SC when he first made it to Egypt. After emerging top scorer in the league, he made a move to Saudi Arabia side Al Shabab in a deal worth €1.95 million.
Antwi returned to giants Al Ahly and didn't live up to expectation. He spent three seasons at Misr El Makasa on loan and was scoring for fun.
Last season he joined moneybags Pyramids FC.
Antwi is currently the highest scoring foreigner in the history of the Egypt Premier League.
Diego Calderon Caicedo
Coming from Colombia, the striker joined Ismaily SC for two seasons through which he was the league top scorer with 18 goals in his spell.
After the wonderful debut season, Calderon joined Al Faisaly Club in Saudi Arabia for around €1.3 million.
Fans called for Calderon to granted Egyptian nationality at a time the national team was lacking a real striker.
A delay in documentations and other procedures prevented the completion of the nationality switch.
Cherno Mansaray
The former Sierra Leone striker and one of the best African players who participated in the Egyptian league outside the top clubs throughout history.
He played for Al Qanat Port Said and was in Al Ahly because of his influential goals.
Mansaray moved to Al Ahly to completely hide his star and left the Red Devils without putting a real footprint with the team.
He later played for Ittihad Alexandria, Al Masry SC and Aluminium Nag Hamadi FC.
