Runtime Issues - (Person of Interest, Root/Shaw) - Root's on a deadline but she keeps running into one consistent problem.

Personal Day (Sameen Shaw, Root/Shaw, Person of Interest) - Shaw is taking a personal day, she's had it all planned. Cooked meal and Bear. But best laid plans are always thwarted.

Dodging Bullets - (Person of Interest/Mr & Mrs Smith Fusion, Root/Shaw) - On paper, Sam Shaw is a successful New York doctor in a stable relationship with a successful software consultant. In reality, Shaw is a Government assassin, a little bored with her stable relationship until a new mission starts shaking things up.

If I do, as much as possible, even though sometimes I feel repetitive thanking people for the comments.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I think it has to be Metamorphosis. Person of Interest -- a little bit of an AU to the finale. Proposing what if Harold didn't make it. But Shaw was there and Root!Machine to see him off.

I think it might be the Life (NBC)'s Gethsemane.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I don't think so. At least, I hope not!

I am not confident writing smut, I only did it once in Life. I don't think I moved it from livejournal to ao3.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

I do! I love crossovers! There's the one where Dani Reese and Sameen Shaw are estranged twins, unfortunately unfinished called Gemini. And a Person of Interest/Elementary crossover.

I... don't think so. As far as I know but I would welcome it!

Oh, I tried but I don't think I've ever finished one. TBF I hardly finish any fic.

This is so hard to answer because this is... what you would call seasonal. Right now in Trek 90s phase, it's Janeway/Seven. Although I am a multishipper sometimes Janeway/Chakotay sneaks in.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

The list is waaay too long. But there's Dodging Bullets, the Mr and Mrs Smith but Root/Shaw, the aforementioned Gemini. The Person of Interest/Elementary crossover.

The Hope/Lizzie Legacies AU where Lizzie decides to stay in season 4 and help Hope during the time Lizzie split from Hope.

I think I do get the character voices right.

New Ground (Doctor Who, Rose Tyler) - Rose on Parallel Earth AU before it was jossed by Journey's End.

Six months after Norway, she's moving on and letting go.

The first multi-chaptered story I've ever finished.

Human Landscape (Life, Dani Reese centric)

the sound of the city tonight / keeps my dreams and my demons alive. Reese and Crews solve the murder of two young drug dealers.

The longest fic I've ever written, a Reese-centric story with case-of-the-week elements.

I'm still proud of this because I started the story with an idea and it went through as planned. It's also the first I wrote in a stream-of-consciousness style that would be the style for most of my Life story.

I had such a strong sense of who Dani Reese was and I was gripped with the desire to write Dani's prequel story. And I'm glad I did!

Metamorphosis - (Person of Interest, Harold Finch, Sameen Shaw. Finale AU-ish.)

Once, long ago, when he realized the Machine had handpicked Sameen Shaw to join their team, he found the notes Dr. Shaw’s Chief Resident wrote. It struck Harold how much of a small-minded fool the doctor was to let such a talented and brilliant woman like Shaw go. She was his doctor and he trusted no other doctor than Miss Shaw.

I just re-read this story and I am pretty proud of this. The title is from the Philip Glass music playing in the finale. I love Finch and Shaw's friendship, so I wanted them to have more scenes.

Also, I was never that convinced Harold escaped unscathed. He either escapes but as trade-off, he gets his father's illness, or he doesn't escape.

“I can’t move you, Harold.” There was an edge of frustration in her words. “If I’d made it here sooner–” Shaw never needed comfort nor assurances but Harold regretted… He regretted too many things. Over her shoulder, Harold fancied he saw a woman in Root’s form with a black belted coat. She smiled at him sadly and placed a ghostly hand on Shaw’s shoulder. Sharp and still. Harold placed his hand over hers, his hand was sticky from his own blood. “I understand, Miss Shaw.” Shaw finally stopped moving. She looked at him for a long, long moment, and then she nodded. Harold watched as she wiped her hands on her pants, pulled his glasses from his face, and cleaned them. Miss Shaw's features came to sharp focus when she returned them. And then she sat next to him.

I also imagine them as switches, though I do lean to Kaohika more… it’s just that, when you see fanfictions and fanarts of them, in my case I was almost horrified— at the way people take the uke thing way too far (it’s just an act, and like you mentioned, even if Kao likes to be doted on, he doesn’t have to be ukefied to be like that) and the way he’s feminized just make me want to show that he can also take the lead/be in charge (even if mostly in private) like in ep. 15 ;; They also confirmed it themselves in the first volume, that while it seems that Hika takes the lead, it’s the more mature Kao that drives the action/is the same (depends on the translation), and it may sound personal, but I hate it when he’s made all feminine— like with his Cinderella metaphor (and Hika and Kao always cross dress together), or the fact he ACTS as the uke, and that was only by chance— because when they initially joined the host club, Kao accidentally burnt his finger for real, and Hika was holding him, genuinely concerned— and then they realized that the girls love it so that’s how the act started in the first place.

oh, yea i remember back when id read a bunch of fics of them after my anime rewatch a few yrs back i was like oh thats.. hm,, ;;; cuz id found a few where kaoru was a bit Too uwu uke iirc tho quite a few of them were p old & from when that was the Norm so i just accepted that some fics were products of the times &/or written by younger fans, as lets face it ouran was & still probably is 1 of the entry level animes. i actually dont consume all that much content of them tho (i only read fics Occasionally [this goes for all fandoms] & theres not much art for them in the eng sphere & i dont follow/kno any jp ouran accs on twitter or use pixiv) so that combined w my bad memory of what i Hav seen means im a bit Unknowing of most fanon for them.. lmao... i figured most of the stuff like that was mostly left behind as of a few yrs ago but perhaps not..?

I don't think I mind ppl playing w the princess thing tho considering it Is a part of his chara, but the whole thing was supposed to focus more on the magic of an illusion shattering eventually & losing what he has not quite a princess & prince... ;; but he Was almost/p much comparing himself to a princess' story & when the magic breaks & he's metaphorically left in his simple flats & princeless instead of the lavish life he had at "the ball" [cinderella metaphor. there is no ball, im aware] so it can't be helped if ppl like the princess association i guess.. give ppl an inch & theyll go a mile, & all that. & honestly w hikaru "saving" [ep 15]/"finding" [ep 21] kaoru twice in canon, it doesn't surprise me if they imagine hikaru as his prince & kaoru the princess since while the metaphor was more abt the whole host club not jus hikaru, hikaru was also a big part of it, as the eps focusing on it display his longing looks at his brother & such, w a fesr of losing Him the most. so long as ppl don't Reduce him to his feminine metaphor 100%, i guess. tis only a small part after all, not a loadbearing one. the angst is more the important bit lmao give him a masc cinderella outfit, even. (altho... the allure of a bishie in a dress... Very Enticing to most I'm afraid)

him always having to be the uke role thing in their host act is kind of out of the fans control bc that's canon... if he's content w his act of being that way, then power to him I guess! he himself might also like that in public he's all uwu kyaaa hikaru <3 while at home it's Hikaru who's nuzzling into his throat. a smug sort of feeling, ya know? that only he gets to see hikaru like that, not everyone else.

WAIT actually as I was typing this I remembered some scene from thee movie shoot ep [ep 4, apparently] where they mentioned 1 of them being the receiver or w/e (bc sports) & it was apparently hikaru annoyedly asking why kaorus the seme in the script w their changed charas (hikaru being all "KAORUU OAO" & kaoru gently reassuring him, which is like their actual dynamic instead) w kaoru replying in a similar manner going "yeah >:T"

which implies either he Likes/is fine w his uke role or at least doesn't think the fangirls would like them switching up & wants the status quo to stay the same just in case. I think if he did mind he wouldntve said anything? or even suggested to hikaru that switching up provides something fresh & "it's still doki doki twincest, hikaru~ these girls have a refined taste; they might just take a liking to gap moe ^^"

but those r the 2 charas theyve allowed to be chosen for themselves, in a way, & theyre like yea this is alright. rhey prov have an "if it aint broke dont fix it" mentality & since the girls expect the typical, they see nonreason to deviate. the twins are capable of speaking out- theyd prob speak up if they minded. also, kaoru might kno that hikaru might not want to be seen as vulnerable [ep 16 comes to mind tho that had more to do w circumstances going on at the time] so kaoru takes that upon himself & bears that burden upon his perceived character [as in the way one is seen, not his host club persona] so hikaru won't mind as much? idk im going off on a tangent I feel but I think the thing w "kaoru Having to be the public uke" isn't all that bad since he himself seems fine w playing around w that character. maybe one day they'll switch it up for fun. (not Literally, as technically they could have hikaru play as kaoru but it would still be seen as "kaoru", but I mean For Reals have hikaru as the uke)

Posting a proper review now that I’ve rewatched both parts because watching them with the gap in between didn’t stick.

So is this what it’s like to never watch Naruto and jump straight to Boruto, because that’s what I’m doing here lol Clearly I’m here because of my Ucchi/Ayu bias and I know nothing about NanaTai beforehand, so everything I know is from watching these two part movie/OVAs.

Here we go, Seven Deadly Sins: Grudge of Edinburgh

Anyway, I was really hoping to like Tristan. His design is everything to me, with his long hair and long eyelashes, his shorts and thigh high boots combination and his little tail coat. I don’t know anything about him, so seeing that this version of him only exists in this movie has piqued my interest, I’m definitely willing to start the Four Knight of the Apocalypse eventually. 

Unfortunately I don’t think I was too big on what we were given from the movie. I mean right off the bat he sounds too OP, given that he has both Goddess and Demon blood in him and they’re both present and usable. (Like saying Maka Albarn has Weapon and Meister blood in her. Sounds fake and something a 10 year old would write.) 

I prefer the parts where he’s a kind boy and afraid of his demon blood from coming out lest he hurt someone again. But then there’s the parts where he’s pretty generic shounen, jumping into situations without thinking and hoping to put on a brave hero front. (We have to do the right thing, save people, punish the bad guy.) I don’t actually know if this OVA/movie is written by the actual author/mangaka and I don’t know if he’s any different later when he shows up in 4KoA a bit older. 

Maybe it was just the writing of the movies, or the humor of the series just never really hit with me (either it’s too shounen comedy or its just too anime) or the fact that it was CG and not 2D animation that some scenes just felt like “okay, this is happening I guess”. (The scene of Tristan jumping off his horse trying to make a grand appearance and almost landing on his face. The  fact that he announces that he almost fell on his face instead of just thinking it?)

The first half of the movie really felt like we were going on Tristan’s journey of growth but the second half of the movie felt like it became the Lancelot show. Which, I don’t think is bad because Lancelot is fun but feels just as OP, if not even more OP than Tristan. (Having blood of both his parents and being able to use it. [TBF I don’t know what Ban’s abilities are, but I guess he’s strong and I don’t know if Lancelot inherited that or not] Being able to “tame” Tristan’s demon blood in a fight. Smart and calculative but also strong enough to wield two weapons.) The movie ends with Lance walk cycle, and I guess this would be a lead in to 4KoA since I think I know he’s in the main cast so far.

I don’t know anything about the original 7 Deadly Sins (if that’s what they even call themselves, I guess??), but seeing them take on the bunch of Empties could have been cool to me if I did watch the original series. I think I would have liked what Melodias and Ban had, if their few interactions in the movie was accurate to what they were like in-series. Also I also really like Elizabeth and Diane. I don’t think they’re doing anything groundbreaking, but I do like the gentle and kind but strong queen (like how I like Princess Peach) and a giant woman. The scene of Melodias rubbing into Elizabeth after her recovery would be a reason why I would never watch the OG, but I thought it was really sweet when it transitioned into “man I love my wife”. 

Also, I’m not familiar with what the 7DS world is like, but it does feel like a generic fantasy with the few different races. If more of the series had what was in GoE with Deathpierce being racist because of things that happened to him, I would like to think that it’s not all black and white in the story. I don’t know if certain races stick to their generic personalities (Tristan’s line about fairy-form Lance not feeling like a fairy and feeling more like a human) but I hope not. 

Anyway, I came in for Ucchi/Ayu interactions and I’m glad I got the food I came here to eat, because I wasn’t actually expecting much from Tristan and Lancelot besides maybe being old friends, or their dads knew each other so we could be friends. Part one was good, some silly banter here and there and Tristan’s traumatic flashback of their fight. Part two had me sold, not only from how Lance always seems to be babysitting Tristan but also how he’s pushing him to go all out. Yeah it’s because Lance is strong, but I like that Tristan trusts him enough to stop him. Also, the movie is telling me that they’re something, so I’m taking it. I'd like to see more of them, I want to see Tristan doing something for Lance, because Lance seems too OP. Like I never for a second doubted he could get out of any of the trouble he was in.

What are some of your personal headcanons for Connor and Hank?

This ask has been sitting in my inbox for such a long time. I’m very sorry, friend. There are too many headcanons, little things here and there that I have, but I will try to narrow them down:

1) Around the time the game came out, I received this message from another Anon and I absolutely loved the headcanon they shared:

after the revolution, androids largely start getting get rid of the leds in their heads, but connor doesn’t. maybe it’s because out of all the protagonists he has the option to never become deviant, but i feel like he’s more comfortable with the more machine-like parts of himself. that and unlike, for example kara (who tbf, kinda drew the short stick when it came to her circumstances), he seems to genuinely enjoy doing what he was designed to do i.e. being an investigator.

2) While Connor does stay with Hank after the revolution at first, he gets himself a small apartment, not wanting to overstay his welcome, while Hank doesn’t know how to tell him that he actually likes having Connor around, that the house feels too big, too lonely with just him in it. So Connor leaves. It’s a small two room apartment, sparsely furnished, that slowly beome more home-y, filled with the odd little trinket here and there. A plant or two or more, a fish tank, a radio, regular books because he wants to understand.

3) It ties in with the little headcanon in 2), but I absolutely do think that Connor would love animals. He seems fond of Sumo. One of my favourite headcanons is that he’d get himself a few particularly colourful fish. Dwarf gourami. Guppies. You name it. It seems the perfect pet for him: Calming, relaxing, but a lot of care and research go into it to make sure it’s happy and lives a long life.

4) While Connor does encourage Hank to pursue a healthier lifestyle, they absolutely still make it a habit to go to Chicken Feed after a particularly long week. Not only for the burgers, but because at this point, it has a sentimental value for both of them.

5) After a few months and months, perhaps they would agree that after all it would be nicer to live together. (Of course with Hank it would go something like this: “It’s nice having someone in the house— I mean, I DON’T HAVE TO PICK YOU UP TO GO TO WORK ALL THE TIME. IT’S JUST MORE CONVENIENT.”)

6) While I do think that being with Connor in whatever capacity would definitely help Hank on the road to recovery from his depression and alcohol abuse, I am still of the mind that he would have to and need to go out and seek professional help. Dealing with the death of a loved one, processing the death of Cole, in a way that is constructive and healthy. Connor can and should only do so much. Your partner is not supposed to be your therapist. 

7) I do feel like Connor would integrate Hank’s terrible ties and equally (if not worse) terrible shirts into his own wardrobe. Still all neat and ironed and tucked in, but still terrible and colourful and garish, clashing with the rest of his clothes.

8) While they do have bad days (and worse days, and arguments, no doubt, they are both still struggling after all), I do ultimately think that their relationship is one of the healthiest based on mutual respect and trust. Weekends spent recharging their (metaphorical and perhaps not so metaphorical) batteries together, slow and comfortable.

9) While I think Hank and Connor would be affectionate with each other, I think it would be more of a quiet affection. A squeeze of a hand, a touch on the small of the other’s back, a hot morning coffee set out on the kitchen table.

Just recently watched Promare for the first time and honestly I was expecting more. I mean it was alright but I do feel people have overhyped it. It's pretty visually like all of studio triggers animations but story wise it's what I expect of trigger which... isn't great which is why I'm surprised about people's overall opinion of it. Also people really made it sound like it's more gay then it was, I could have sworn I was told by some people it was actually gay but honestly it's about as gay as a LOT of other mainstream work which isn't really much. MAYBE more so then most animes but... not at all compared to anime with even the most miniscule of decent REAL gay rep.

Honestly, as much as I love the animation & think that whatever the animation studio makes is beautifully rendered and amazingly done I do think story-wise they could really use a lot of improvements. Tbf I've only seen, I guess three things by the studio & only finished 2 BUT I think my point still stands. The only thing I've actually enjoyed a lot that was by them was the Little witch academia series that's on Netflix. I actually liked it and thought it was cute and interesting with a few... let's sum it up to "questionable" things within the plot of the series but overall it was very cute. Too me is also had some gay subtext to it... honestly I feel like it had a bit more compared to Promare (but I could be biased so don't hold me to that if you check it out & don't feel the same way because when I say SUBTEXT I mean it so something I may interprete as such others may not).

Another movie I saw recently was Earwig & the Witch which I decently liked and enjoyed for the most part. It's funny because my opinions of this & Promare are the OPPOSITE of how critics/fans feel about each of the said movies. While people give Promare high reviews I was very... unimpressed overall (except for the animation, which is to be expected considering the studio) while I actually liked Earwig and think people are being kind of... overly harsh to it. Do I think it's on par with Studio Ghiblis other movies? No. But, do I think it was bad? Absolutely not!!! I do agree that it definitely comes off more as an introduction to a series or something and should have had more plot wise & has some unexplained questions that make it a little... I don't think "confusing" is exactly the right word but it's the closest I can come up with, at times BUT I think it still did a good job of telling an entertaining story, with interesting characters & was decently animated/rendered... Or at least to me it was.

I feel most people were going in with unrealistic expectations for the movie expecting what Studio Ghibli does 2D to magically work/crossover into 3D *snaps finger* just like that! It's their first movie using this form/type of animation, give them some time to work on it! And even if they can't find ways to translate all of the 2D magic into 3D then oh well! Doesn't mean that what they made or may continue to make is completely devoid of value because of it!

I do however admit that SOME of the backlash could be due too the main characters as well, I do think they aren't exactly the likeable characters we find in the other movies and while they do change/grow to being a tad more likeable/better they overall don't change a lot or really learn/improve compared to the characters in their other movies which I feel just reinforces my and many others opinion that the movie did feel unfinished/ended at the most climactic part.

Overall I give Promare 7/10, I wasn't impressed by the story and lost interest at various points when watching and some... "questionable" things within the plot also made it harder to enjoy and none of the characters really stick out or grow on you or really grow in general but the animation is beautiful and has some interesting design within it so that keeps the score from going lower.

For Earwig I give it a 7.- actually you know what I give it an 8. Overall the animation is good, nothing compared to Ghibli's normal movies BUT that's a high bar AND those are 2D films so don't feel it's fair to compare the two. For 3D films in general though I think it's visuals are above average. The characters are likeable not so great people with interesting back stories who sort of grow but could have done more in this regard. The main thing holding the movie down however is the fact that it does feel like its missing an actual ending because the current ending feels less like a cliff hanger and more like the movie was cut off for time or something! Also more exploration outside of two settings could have helped this as well but still overall enjoyed the movie more then Promare personally!

1) Do you have any specific diet you go by? (Vegan, Gluten-Free, Paleo, etc.) i used to be pescetarian, but then the deficiencies it gave me caused some pretty bad dental / gum problems, so i started eating a bit of lean chicken and pork on the side again... (yeah i know supplements exist, but even my nutrition major of a friend thought a pescetarian diet won’t yield deficiencies, and also supplements are fairly expensive. get off my case)

2&3) Do you have any siblings? If so, how close are you? nope, i’m an only child

4&5) What’s your favourite book and why? (I might want to read it lol) hmm. i still really like 1984, it was the first dystopian classic i read and the concept of Newspeak, tampering with historical authenticity on such grand scales, etc. just blew my mind. so even though i still dislike its weakass character-writing (p much anyone besides Winston has no personality, no distinct personal motives, etc), it’s got a soft spot in my heart. next to that i also liked A Clockwork Orange for the philosophical discussion of the nature of right and wrong (although in hindsight the story is a bit didactic); To Live by Yu Hua (the ill-fated episodes and tragic ends are made all the more absurd by the subtle and simply narration style, but it really is a humbling and informative experience for us readers of a different era and socioeconomic background); and of course, my favourite fable, A Little Prince.

6) Would you describe your personality as dominate or submissive overall? what the fuck kind of question is this. well i’m opinionated as heck, so i’m not submissive “personality-wise”. and that’s all i’ll say on the matter because i’m p sex-indifferent lol, if that’s what this question was trying to get at.

7) What are your dreams usually like at night? oh man. i usually don’t dream normal dreams; as in, most dreams i have is either one big adventure / story, or some bizarre situation that would have been questionable at best, fucked up at worst, in real life context. when i start dreaming about mundane everyday life problems or situations, like failing a test or being stuck with a friend i’ve cut off from my life years ago, that’s usually when i’ve got some kind of stress going on in my life.

(i’ve been trying to restart my dream journal tag actually, but i got stuck on my second entry trying to recall the specifics lol. maybe i should release entry #3 from the drafts first.)

8) Is there anything you’re currently anxious about? well, yeah. my future. my job prospects. being homeless once my parents decide to sell their house off for retirement because the housing prices are through the roof here. pick one.

9&10) Are you looking forward to Thanksgiving? Will you be contributing anything? we don’t celebrate Thanksgiving!

11) Whose your favourite Death Note character (if you have one)?  Light Yagami, even though he’s a slimy fox.

1. What kind of music do you listen to?

hmm, i only listen to really slow music or something dark or rock-ish, nothing in between!! muahahaha!! 

okay that’s generalising it; i do love The Honey Trees and The Novembers, which are on opposite ends of the “slow” spectrum (one’s dream pop, the other’s infused with shoegaze and other distortions + some screamy vocals and loud noises at times), with Lana Del Rey and her decadent sounds smack in the middle lol. but yeah i certainly have a taste for the more atmospheric stuff, so aside from the fuzzy feelings of The Novembers’ stuff and the grandness of Lana’s string instrumentals i also like the darker chill vibes you get from The Neighbourhood, some of The Weeknd’s older stuff, etc. 

and I also really enjoy MCR, Muse and the like - i.e. dramatic sounds, that’s the good shit to me haha.

i also like more conventional pop acts like Lorde... and my fave local singer, Ivana Wong, of course!

2. Do you prefer to keep your living space neat and tidy or do you like a certain amount of mess?

i do prefer order and routine in my life, sadly if i can’t do that on a structural level you think i can do that with my desk?! lol. in an alternate universe, maybe.

3. What was the first ship you remember really shipping?

hmm probably TerraxBeast Boy from CN’s Teen Titans. i was lukewarm / indifferent to other canon pairings i’ve seen in media up until that point; but i guess i was more persuaded by the storyline than their characterisations as looking back there are glaring trust issues in their relationship (and that’s an understatement)

4. Do you have a certain show or book series that holds a lot of nostalgic value for you? If so, what was it?

hmm, i guess Courage the Cowardly Dog? (i was a weird kid but shush) and Teen Titans of course. as for books, hmm... ASoUE is definitely one of the ones that just takes me back to middle school. i even bought the Beatrice letters files thingy. tbf the whole Lemony Snicket universe did teach me a lot about cryptography, which i guess if me or a friend of mine were to do an L rp and solve cases it would help a lot (*cough* not saying that’s what’s happening right now because i’ve got other stuff i’m investing my time into. i guess my friend’s gonna make themselves scarce as well hahaha *cue Mariah Carey’s i can’t read gif except it’s L*)

5. What is your favorite type of food?

Italian and Japanese are my fave cuisines! i guess that means i love richly-flavoured foods and creamy stuff. ooh, love those sauces.

6. Was there ever a fad or activity from your childhood that you could never understand or get into?

i wasn’t a gamer at all. we didn’t own a single console and i wasn’t allowed to get a handheld. the most i had was a Tamagotchi. so i guess it’s not so much i never got that ‘fad’, just that i was never given the opportunity to discover the really good games. i’ve only ever played a bit of Mario Kart or Cooking Mama on my cousin’s NDS so yeah. didn’t see the appeal in the more light-hearted games like that.

(now that i’ve played Undertale i’m kinda wanting to explore more PC games though. i heard Papers Please is good, and PJ (@kickthepj)’s been recommending Hyper Light Drifter a lot, and the art looks amazing, so yeah... too broke to get them though... and even if i had the money and time to play them i’d be allocating it towards other stuff you know?)

7. What’s your favorite time of day?

well i got 2 fave time periods. the first one’s the witching hours between midnight and early morning, when the world is quiet and you could do anything and nobody would know. the other one is early morning, just after sunrise, and the air is clear and slightly chilly, and it’s also really quiet but you can just hear the birds tweeting somewhere.

i’m more likely to be awake for the first time period described here though... ._.

8. What’s your favorite type flower and why?

hmm i'm not really a flower person. i’m just gonna steal Luke’s answer and say cactus flowers haha (well i do like cacti, they’re some of my favourite plants; i even named my IG/Twitter and Pokemon Go usernames after the plant; also some of you might remember that i had a pet cactus for 8 months)

9. What’s your favorite cliché/trope in fiction?

lovers running out of time...

10. Did/do you do any extracurricular activities when you were in school and what were they?

(wow Luke that’s a lot on your resume!)

i did bits and bobs throughout school, but perhaps my longest commitment was my Clarinet lessons. started when i was in Year 2, carried on until i obtained a Pass in Grade 8 ABRSM certificate in Year 10. i had to quit and give up on a diploma there because i was starting the IB diploma programme in Year 11...

this commitment is only rivalled by the dance classes i took. i did ballet from a young age until i was about 12~13, quitting just before en pointe shoes were introduced; i had also been in Chinese dance lessons from Year 1, so after quitting ballet i just focused on that until Year 10 as well (again, quitting to focus on my full-time diploma).

i also did Taekwondo as a child and obtained a black belt qualification by age 12. i quit once i did though, because again i couldn’t afford to juggle so many commitments the older i got and the more demanding my studies became.

perhaps the proudest extracurricular i’ve done is in my senior years of high school: i started and chaired the student committee as the editor in-chief for the school’s first student-ran and seasonal (now monthly) publication. it’s not student-ran either anymore because i guess the kids that came after the classes of 2014, 2015, and 2016 just dgaf about slightly more demanding extracurriculars that require organisation as long as they can earn their credits elsewhere (yes i’m salty, i’m allowed to be okay, it was my brainchild but apparently kids these days don’t care about having their voices heard if it means having to negotiate diplomacy with the adults in charge. god, how do they expect to survive in uni or in a workplace?)

11. What’s your favorite piece of work that you’ve ever created and what about it do you love so much?

hmm. i think for sure the prose poem i wrote about Light’s death in the anime. idk, the flow and the imagery is just a good concentrated example of what i could be capable of given the right tone and context. (of course, i’ve been trying hard to branch out in genres and forms, so that sort of language isn’t always applicable. but yeah, it remains my fave as a showcase of my best writing abilities ^_^)

i don’t have one, sorry! i was 4 when it aired on TV, so i don’t remember much from those years except the Sailor Moon t shirt i got courtesy of my aunt because it was all the rage back then... i’m sorry, but i have more vivid memories of Pretty Cure and Sugar Sugar Rune!

6.Do you prefer potato chips chocolate?

it is a good combo for sure! we are talking about Royce’s chocolate potato chips, right? (if you haven’t tried it get some next time you or a friend/family goes to Japan! we can buy it locally from like Citysuper or something, but i doubt they export it to any countries beyond East Asia haha)

7.What song makes you feel melancholic?

oh, Six Billion did last week. it left me feeling cold all over. an effect from the combination of the layered vocals and the instrumentals i guess. (is it in minor key? i’m sorry i can’t tell anymore, it’s been far too long since i’ve had any musical training. but if it’s in minor key it would explain why.)

there’s also some of the stuff off The Novembers’ catalogue... mostly 終わらない境界 from To (melt into), which was my daily commuting soundtrack at a time when i had brainfog on a regular basis, so yeah, anxiety and all that fun stuff :/

8.Which dn character would you invite to Spaceland(the amusement park)?

Sayu or Matsuda? they deserve a lot more than the hand canon dealt them. hmm maybe Rem too? but she wouldn’t be able to interact with a lot of the stuff there :/

9.What’s the funniest movie you ever watched?

i guess The Lego Batman Movie? i’m sorry i know i keep bringing this film up, but it’s comedic genius for a “kid’s movie”.

Which is that in the songs, who the singer is corresponds with how well they are doing in the fight In the first episode, we start with the intro of Hikari and Junna duet, then Junna completely takes over the song as she dominates Hikari. When Karen enters the fight, she also takes over the singing and wins. In the second episode, after the intro of the song, we have Junna dominating at first - as she's pinning down Karen, then it turns into an evenly matched duet, before Karen takes the end And finally, in the third episode, we have a duet intro, followed by a bit of Karen as she actually has Maya on the defense for a bit, holding her own until the chandelier cut, Maya takes over the song and the fight completely after that until the finish

Tower of God Ep. 1 opinions

I have such complicated feelings over the pilot. On one hand I love it, in that blind way a longtime follower (7 years!) of anything can ignore flaws. On the other...It wasn’t well handled. I think they tried too hard on the wrong things, while ignoring other important things.

It threw you in with barely an explanation. Tbf, the webtoon did that too, but not as badly. That medium also works better because you can spend longer staring at words in order to process them, letting the constant stream of casually referenced new information, Like Yuri being a princess, Bam being  trapped alone in a cave, ‘Pockets’ being basically a cell phone that also translates languages, wtf that monster (white steel eel) was, etc.

So they chose to remain faithful to the source material in that regard. Commendable, but ultimately a little foolish because they didn’t give a few extra seconds to process this new world like the reader of the webtoon can. They didn’t spend those few extra seconds to make emotional moments hit harder, and jokes land better. (ffs Yuri calling bam cute was treated as a joke in the source material. Black March was more serious, but they spent longer to make sure the reader knew black march was a ridiculous rebellious teenager). This makes it seem like he is going to coast through the series being mediocre at best because women find him attractive. This is NOT the case.

Idk man, I can forgive wobbly pilot episodes if they buckle down in the next two and focus on timing and explanations. The source material only delivered answers and world-building gradually as time went on, and given the animation studio’s currently viewable efforts to remain faithful to the storytelling narrative, they will likely do the same. but to leave anime viewers with NOTHING like that is a little jarring. The biggest thing they need to work on, though, is endearing us to the Twenty-Fifth Bam. Without that, everything else will fail.

To anime only viewers, give this at least 3 episodes. Maybe 4. If it hasn’t fixed most of its problems by then, it probably wont.
