It's pretty amazing, but we're watching for ten different books this week.

“The government has a great need to restore its credibility, to make people forget its history and rewrite it. The intelligentsia have to a remarkable degree undertaken this task. It is also necessary to establish the "lessons" that have to be drawn from the war, to ensure that these are conceived on the narrowest grounds, in terms of such socially neutral categories as "stupidity" or "error" or "ignorance" or perhaps "cost."

Why? Because soon it will be necessary to justify other confrontations, perhaps other U.S. interventions in the world, other Vietnams.

But this time, these will have to be successful intervention, which don't slip out of control. Chile, for example. It is even possible for the press to criticize successful interventions - the Dominican Republic, Chile, etc. - as long as these criticisms don't exceed "civilized limits," that is to say, as long as they don't serve to arouse popular movements capable of hindering these enterprises, and are not accompanied by any rational analysis of the motives of U.S. imperialism, something which is complete anathema, intolerable to liberal ideology.

How is the liberal press proceeding with regard to Vietnam, that sector which supported the "doves"? By stressing the "stupidity" of the U.S. intervention; that's a politically neutral term. It would have been sufficient to find an "intelligent" policy. The war was thus a tragic error in which good intentions were transmuted into bad policies, because of a generation of incompetent and arrogant officials. The war's savagery is also denounced, but that too, is used as a neutral category...Presumably the goals were legitimate - it would have been all right to do the same thing, but more humanely...

The "responsible" doves were opposed to the war - on a pragmatic basis. Now it is necessary to reconstruct the system of beliefs according to which the United States is the benefactor of humanity, historically committed to freedom, self-determination, and human rights. With regard to this doctrine, the "responsible" doves share the same presuppositions as the hawks. They do not question the right of the United States to intervene in other countries. Their criticism is actually very convenient for the state, which is quite willing to be chided for its errors, as long as the fundamental right of forceful intervention is not brought into question.

He gave Jared chances, they were off and on for so long, but Jared chose his status quo life over what Colin, and more importantly, what James(And little Henry) needed.

And from the songs, it doesn't sound like it was easy for Col. To give Jared up. We know how he looked at him at that awards show. We know they will do anything to not be at the same event. Instead, he talks of "people" that were obviously close enough to be very worried about him dying, but who aren't close to him anymore at the time of the interview... I thought a lot about where Jared was in 2005, when Colin was shooting Miami Vice in Florida, the Dominican Republic, Paraguay and Uruguay and spiraled, and if he was trying to intervene. Songs like "Rescue Me" give the impression that he's generally up for tasks like that, don't they? They must've been close friends still at that time. It wasn't even a year since the Alexander premieres. According to some people, they were actually really close for a brief time... was Jared helping, was he not? Jun. 11—WILKES-BARRE — A native from Dominican Republic charged in a shooting that turned deadly in Hazleton pled not guilty to murder charges at his formal arraignment in Luzerne County Court on Tuesday.

Jenndry Samuel Rodriguez-Contreras, 23, address listed as Pine Street, Freeland, was charged by Hazleton City Police with fatally shooting Felix Dini, 22, and injuring Rochell Angel Reyes-Cruz, 24, in the rear of 199 S. Wyoming St. on Oct. 7, 2022, according to court records.

Dini and Reyes-Cruz each suffered four gunshot wounds. Dini died Oct. 10, 2022.

Investigators only knew the shooter as "Jendry," until a cooperating witness provided Contreras' full name as the gunman in November 2023, court records say.

Court records say Contreras fled his native Dominican Republic after being accused of an attempted homicide and illegally crossed into the United States in Texas in early 2022, about seven months before Dini and Reyes-Cruz were shot.

After the Hazleton shooting, Contreras fled to New York City and was captured by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force at a residence in York, York County, on Feb. 9.

Through his attorney, James J. Scanlon, Rodriguez-Contreras pled not guilty to first-degree murder, third-degree murder, criminal conspiracy and two counts of aggravated assault before Judge David W. Lupas.

Assistant district attorneys Daniel Mulhern, Anthony Cardone and Drew McLaughlin are prosecuting.

Lupas said he will scheduled a trial at a later date.

As Hazleton police investigated the case, two people charged for their alleged role in the deadly shooting were acquitted by a Luzerne County jury following a trial in August 2023.
