new totk verse concept:

link as one of those damned soldier dudes down in the depths, gripping onto a weapon. you take the weapon, and suddenly instead of the soldier vanishing off into the ether until the next blood moon, you have a disgruntled old soldier of hyrule attached to you. so long has he been forgotten by the kingdom that no one can recognize him as a hero of long ago, only noting the striking similarities between his single blue eye and bright blond hair to the heroic swordsman of their era.

he's tired all of the time, rarely speaks, and all the animals gravitate to him like a disney princess. oh, and you don't even get to actually keep the weapon you take from him--it'll always teleport back to his person, and seems to be an eerie replica of a certain darkness-slaying sword...
