during my visit, i didn't realise what a pearl of modern church architecture duisburg has to offer. i think that even the few photos i took show the building's uniqueness. the church has been deconsecrated for a few years now and is used as a cultural centre. in any case, i have yet to visit the interior, because i hear it's fantastic.

bei meinem besuch war mir gar nicht bewusst welche perle des modernen kirchenbaues sich in duisburg befindet. ich finde selbst die wenigen aufnahmen die entstanden sind, zeigen die besonderheit des bauwerkes. seit mehreren jahren ist die kirche profaniert und kulturort. auf jeden fall muss ich das innere noch besuchen, denn der innenausbau soll fantastisch sein.

Kırgız-Kazak kültüründe Albastının iki farklı türünden bir diğeri ise Kara Albıstır. “Karasaç” olarak da bilinir. Esmer, koyu tenli bir kadındır. Daha ağırbaşlı ve ciddi bir görünüme sahiptir. Ancak daha aldatıcı ve baştan çıkarıcıdır. Albastıdan bile daha ölümcüldür. Nadiren rastlanır. Karabasmak tabiri bu Albıs’ın yaptığı kötülükler için kullanılır. Kara giysiler giyer. Karahummaya neden olur. Çakal veya sırtlan kılığına girebilir. Oluşturduğu hastalık “Kara Basmak” tabiriyle ifade edilir. Ve bu durum kabuslarla da ilgilidir.

Ukraine wants to develop and buy fifth-generation poaching, and is not from the United States

Ukraine has shown interest in investing in the development and also in the acquisition of a fifth-generation fighter, since its engineers are currently involved in the development of the poaching jet engine.

During an interview with CNN Türk on February 15, 2024, the Ukrainian ambassador to Turkey, Vasyl Bodnar, revealed that Ukraine expressed its intention to acquire and deploy the fifth-generation Turkish poacher Kaan (King). Ambassador Bodnar discussed the partnership, noting that this initiative is part of a broader collaboration, reflecting a history of defense and technological cooperation between Turkey and Ukraine.

To supply the Kaan jet engine, Ukrainian companies have established a consortium to compete with other global and Turkish companies.

The collaboration in the Kaan engine between Ukraine and Turkey is described by Ambassador Bodnar as mutually beneficial. He mentioned the advantages of domestic production capacities, which aim to improve the global competitiveness of both nations. In addition, Bodnar suggested that the Kaan could be competitive with other advanced aircraft, such as the F-35 Lightning II and the F-22 Raptor. Ukraine's approach to the acquisition of Kaan jets is described by the ambassador as comprehensive, planning both the purchase and the effective deployment to improve national defense.

The Kaan fighter is part of Turkey's National Combat Aircraft program, which began in 2017, with the aim of improving the country's defense infrastructure. It was designed with the intention of surpassing the capabilities of American F-35 jets and is planned to replace the existing F-16 fighters of the Turkish Air Force. The program faced delays, with the initial flight of the Kaan prototype postponed from late December 2023 or early January 2024 to March, due to unspecified reasons that require more ground testing. Series production is scheduled to begin in 2028.

The TAI Kaan, initially referred to as TF-X or Turkish Fighter (TF) and also known as Milli Muharip Uçak (National Combat Aircraft), is being developed by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) with the assistance of BAE Systems. The project aims to create a bimotor, all-climate poacher of air superiority, to succeed the F-16 Fighting Falcons of the Turkish Air Force and to operate alongside contemporary aircraft such as the F-35 Lightning II, with potential for international sales.

The project was started by the Executive Committee of the Defense Industry of Turkey on December 15, 2010, with the aim of developing a next-generation fighter. This led to an agreement in 2011 between the Undersecretary of Defence Industries of Turkey (now known as the Defense Industry Agency) and TAI, as well as TUSAS Engine Industries (TEI). TEI collaborates with the Ukrainian company Ivchenko Progress in the development of the Kaan engine since 2022. Initially, the Kaan will be equipped with General Electric F110 engines,

The Turkish company Aselsan is developing an advanced active electronic scanning radar for Kaan using gallium nitride technology. The aircraft's avionics aims to allow integration with unmanned aerial vehicles through secure data links.

The aircraft's armament is expected to include several air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, along with different types of bombs to meet various mission requirements.

In response to the most recent Quran-burning incident in Sweden, where an Iraqi immigrant burned the religious book in front of a mosque in Stockholm last June, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopted a resolution on July 12th on religious hatred, condemning the acts of burning the Islamic holy book in Sweden.

Introduced by Pakistan on behalf of the 57-member Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the resolution urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to draft a report on religious hatred and called on countries to review their laws and close legal loopholes that may "impede the prevention and prosecution of acts and advocacy of religious hatred."

The resolution was highly divisive since several states, primarily Western countries, decided not to back the proposal due to fears that it might infringe on freedom of speech and expression. Still, that did not prevent the human rights body from adopting the resolution. Among the council’s 47 members, 28 voted in favor of the resolution, 12 voted against it, and 7 chose to abstain.

Several countries that voted to adopt the resolution included Muslim-majority countries, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, and Malaysia. The 12 countries that voted against it included the United States, the United Kingdom, and members of the European Union. While Western countries condemned the recent Quran-burning act in Sweden, they argued that the resolution would more likely safeguard religious symbols than human rights.

The resolution also came after a debate on issues of religious protection shortly after the Quran-burning incident in Sweden on July 11th, which was held upon Pakistan’s request. Pakistan and other countries said "the alarming rise in premeditated and public acts of religious hatred as manifested by the recurrent desecration of the Holy Quran in some European and other countries” moved them to act.

The outcome of the resolution showed the power of OIC-member states within the council, the only global body made up of governments to protect human rights all over the world and also marks a significant blow to the West and its allies on the issue, with the director of the Geneva-based Universal Rights Group Marc Limon saying that "the West is in full retreat at the Human Rights Council” and adding that "they're increasingly losing support and losing the argument."

Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Khalil Hashmi, also criticized the West and accused them of "lip service" to their commitment to preventing religious hatred, adding that “they lack [the] political, legal and moral courage to condemn this act, and it was the minimum that the Council could have expected from them."

As the special session went underway, which is the second of the three annual sessions at the UNHRC that will run until July 14th, Austrian lawyer Volker Türk, who currently serves as the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said that “speech and inflammatory acts against Muslims, Islamophobia, antisemitism, and actions and speech that target Christians — or minority groups such as Ahmadis, Baha'is or Yazidis — are manifestations of utter disrespect. They are offensive, irresponsible, and wrong."

Ayda couldn’t avoid the community, especially when most of her mornings were spent at the bakery helping Mrs. Aksoy get everything ready for opening and then she would stop at one of the other places to help. Luckily when asked about what happened, Mrs. Aksoy and her came up with the story it was a bad robbery gone wrong; much better than admitting that her father hit her. 

This afternoon she was at the community centre. She was able to get the dance sorted out and moved to a different date with no issue. Now she was focusing on Eid al-Fitr. Ayda wanted to make it special and get the whole community involved. The idea of having an outside festival for the night inspired her, wanting lanterns to line the street and tables and vendors out. She needed to secure what street they could use for the night and have shut down.

It was important to her. 

She was coming out of her designated office, glancing down at the paperwork in her hands and found her frame collided with another. 

“Affedersin.” The Turk steps back, her head snapping up to see who she ran into and her eyes widen. “Emre!” She squeaks out his name, a hand coming up to brush her hair over the left side of her face. 

“What are you doing here?” Which was a stupid question, sometimes he would come by when she was here and help.

TOMYRIS AND THE SCYTHIAN VICTORY OVER THE ACHAEMENID PERSIANS

For part of my series on nomad blacksmithing I had a brief look at the Scythians. Scythians graves are rather rich in wonderful bronze and gold working, indicating the access they had to it across their lands. Scythians in the western steppes (in today's Ukraine) employed Greek metalworkers who designed some of their most famous surviving treasures, which include wonderful depictions of Scythian clothing, armour and hair styles.

Of course, that was an excuse for me play around a bit, look at images of these surviving wares and have some fun depicting Tomyris of the Massagetae's great victory over Cyrus the Great. The large antlers/horn on the horse are known from Scythian graves, but probably weren't worn into battle; they seem to me a terribly awkward thing to have pointed back at the rider. But since I am making the thing I can allow myself some artistic license.

Doğal taş sektöründe dünyanın en büyük üç tedarikçisinden biri olan Türkiye, 2025 yılına iki büyük ticaret heyetiyle giriş yaptı

İZMİR (İGFA) – Türkiye’nin önde gelen doğal taş firmalarından oluşan sektörel ticaret heyetleri, ABD ve İngiltere’de mimarlık ve tasarım dünyasının önemli isimleriyle bir araya gelerek Türk doğaltaşının kalitesini ve çeşitliliğini sergiledi. Türkiye, 150 desen ve 650 renk zenginliğiyle doğal taş severlere geniş bir yelpaze sunuyor.

ABD’de hem ikili iş görüşmeleri yapıp hem de TISE Fuarını ziyaret ettikleri bilgisini veren Ege Maden İhracatçıları Birliği Başkanı İbrahim Alimoğlu, Sektörel Ticaret Heyeti ve URGE firmalarından oluşan toplam 30 firmayla güçlü bir katılım gösterdiklerini vurguladı.

“Bu büyük çıkarmada firmalarımız, potansiyel alıcılarla B2B görüşmeleri yaparak önemli iş bağlantıları kurdu” diyen Alimoğlu, “Sektörümüz için büyük önem taşıyan NSI (Natural Stone Institute) ile ilgili firmalarımızın ilişkileri pekiştirilerek iş birliği imkanları artırıldı. ABD’ye 2024 yılında 432 milyon dolar olan ihracatımızı 500 milyon dolara çıkarmak için önemli bir adım attık. Amerikalı ithalatçıları İzmir Marble Fuarı’na davet ettik” diye konuştu.

Ege Maden İhracatçıları Birliği olarak ABD’deki etkinliğin ardından, İngiltere’de önemli temaslarda bulunduklarını dile getiren Alimoğlu şöyle devam etti: “İngiltere ve dünyanın önde gelen mimarlık ve tasarım firmalarıyla ikili iş görüşmeleri gerçekleştirerek sektörümüzün uluslararası arenadaki konumunu güçlendirme çabası içinde olduk. Yenilikçi projeler, ilham verici tasarımlar ve güçlü iş birlikleri için önemli bir fırsat sunan bu görüşmeler, Türk doğal taşının potansiyelini ortaya çıkaracak.
