Reccer says: I enjoy how the story focuses on growth, indecision, and hidden desire between the two main characters along with an entire plot. The story plays on the aftermath of decisions that were made during the game and the writer did a great job at exploring the 'now what'. The writing and dialogue has this beauty and flow to it that must not be missed. Worth a read! A hidden gem!

Reccer says: The tension in this was amazing. The author went through all of Astarion's fears, wants and needs and wrapped them all into a perfect contract. The ending just left me wanting to pull my hair out! It might be one of the best stories I ever read and I can't believe it doesn't have more hits!

Reccer says: I binge read this once I started it! It's a follow on to a previous work, but easy to get the gist if you haven't read that. Love the relationship between Astarion and Gale, and the Tav complications! Sinister with a dark humour.

And two recs for: Cutlass Tavern by Tynithia (33395, Explicit) Content Notes: None Pairings: Balduran/Ansur, Balduran/Tav

Balduran and Ansur's relationship was already on the rocks when Balduran makes it worse by spending the night with someone else.

Reccer #1 says: I enjoyed how the writer created an original story from two characters who only had a letter and one scene together in the entire game. Their original characters were woven in so easily into their story, I went to the Forgotten Realms wiki to see if they were real characters. I also enjoyed the point of view chapters from each of the characters, it really gave the story more insight to how each were thinking. It's a great emotional roller coaster and worth a read. I laughed, cried, and rooted for all the characters - a hidden gem indeed! Reccer #2 says: Like with many long established relationships, there are ups and downs, no matter how much you love each other. Balduran and Ansur were no exception, especially when one is an elf and the other is a dragon.The story is told from the perspective of the three main characters Balduran, Ansur, and Ellandra (Tav/OC) with Gaius Dekarios (Gale’s great-grandfather/OC) in a supporting role. Really enjoyed this glimpse into Balduran's past life and loves. A great read with lots of angst, laughs, romance, battles and sea tales around the past lives of the characters.

So Hob has fooled around a little but he's never gone all the way, he's freshly 18 and looking to finally lose his virginity... what better way than to sell it? He doesn't have any family to disapprove of his choice and he could really use the cash. So he puts up an ad on some kind of sketchy auction website... and watches the bids roll in.

(Yes he's a little worried that he might end up with a serial killer in his bed but he's 18 and stupid so he does it anyway)

The bids get flatteringly high and Hob has already made enough to put him through a good portion of university by the time the winner is declared. The alpha requests a meeting the very next day, even offering to transfer half the money before they even meet! Hob thinks he's struck gold and agrees immediately.

At the hotel room the alpha has arranged Hob waits in simple red briefs, buzzing with nerves. He's starting to think that it's probably going to be awful... and then in walks Dream. Hob’s world changes right there and then.

Thank you!! A fun fact about me is that i am actually insane about invertebrates. So when wario presented me with two made-up invertebrates i went a little insane. I do play it kind of fast and loose with these guys so i'm sure an actual specbio enthusiast would not be impressed but i'd say 40% of my creative decisions are also based in what would be the funniest (such as making sure the polyp looks like a bowling pin)

I have hinted at this via my orbiology poster but i have an entire orbulon corkboard living in my head so here is the bulk of that iceberg

Based on orbulon's aversion to heat, big ol' sunglasses, and milky complexion, i think that he is the interstellar equivalent of a cave olm. Instead of an underground cave i think he lives on a gas giant far from his system's sun, which would be cold, dark, and have a thick atmosphere for him to "swim" through. ("What about the air pressure?" You say. "Hold your horses" I say. "It will all be worth it in the end.") This reason i think it is worth it is because my model for this is uranus, the gas giant whose atmosphere contains notable amounts of, and i cannot stress this enough, methane. Tell me a more warioware planet

I also think that his planet is predominantly blue, not just because of the youranus thing but also because whenever he gets really scared he literally turns blue. Check it out

I think this is NOT the same as blushing, but a fear response similar to cuttlefish changing color to camouflage with their environment via chromatophores in their skin. Unfortunately when orbulon is scared shitless he does a bad job of it and just defaults to his home planet color, but when he actually thinks about it he can change his color and shape to be whatever he wants (such as a pretty woman).

3. On a similar note, orbulon does not have teeth but he can shapeshift his mouth to create the facsimile of teeth. This is a cool party trick but you need to know that the fake teeth are still squishy and it's really gross.

4. Orbulon's eyes are uber-sensitive to light which is why he needs those impenetrable coke-bottle sunglasses. He also doesn't have eyelids, so during his 24-hour naps his eyes are open the whole time. Sweet dreams.

5. This is going to veer out of plain biology and into his society so i'm not going to go too deep into this but basically i think that telepathy is an integral part of intraspecies communication and that their society is very communal as a result. Think like ants with pheromones, not a hivemind in that they lose their individual identities but they're definitely less atomized than humans. They're also wildly intelligent and have canonically developed time travel technology to the point where the average person can just have a time machine built into their car. This gives a little insight into orbulon's mindset here

This is getting too long and crazy so i'm going to top it off with one more thing. I know orbulon is supposed to have smooth skin but in my heart i wish he had the texture of these bad boys

Dipper holding up a sign: Welcome back to Dipper’s Guide to the Unexplained! Anomaly number 64: Aunt Beatrice. She arrived with Great-Uncle Ford, and she says that she’s twelve, but she keeps talking about things that Great-Uncle Ford said happened years before that as if she was there, and she refuses to take her goggles off that cover the upper half of her face, even when she sleeps. She also doesn’t seem to like leaving his side for long. A quirk from being raised dimension-hopping, or something stranger?

Mabel: Maybe she’s just heard lots of stories! I know I forgot that I didn’t go through Dream Boy High one day after a week’s worth of crazy dreams about it!

Dipper: But what about the goggles? Besides, I heard her talking about science-y equations at the table with Great-Uncle Ford after dinner last night, so she's smart- I don’t think she’d just forget she didn’t do something.

Mabel: Or maybe she’s just lying! She said she’s never really been around other kids before, right? Maybe she just wants us to like her. And it’s working! On me at least, you’re just-

Dipper: Mabel, I’m trying to be scientific about this, that’s all!

Mabel: Come on, Dipper, I think she’s just a little awkward. It has to be a little weird to have somebody Grandpa Shermie’s age as your dad.

Dipper, rubbing his arm: I wouldn’t mind having Great-Uncle Ford as a dad.

Mabel: That’s because you’re both nerds.

Dipper: Not the point! Anyway, right now, my theory is that she was part of some sort of hivemind, and the goggles hide bug eyes, the last piece left from her original form. She also really seems to like honey. Maybe Great-Uncle Ford helped to rescue her, and that’s why she still looks like him, because she modeled her form after him and now she sees him as her new queen! I’m going to show her the beekeepers near the petting zoo on the side of town and see how she reacts.

They were friendly if you brought gifts, though, and even let you trade for some of their honey if the gifts were sweet enough. One of them taught me to speak their language.

*Beatrice clears her throat before a buzzing sound emanates from it. Several bees land on her outstretched hand, curious.*

Bea: Look, they like me! Hey, Dipper, do you have any enemies? I bet I could set them loose as a favor for helping me yesterday!

Dipper, considering: Well, there is this one girl-

Dreamed last night: a superhero/villain known as Sweet-talk, whose power is always knowing what to say to persuade something to her position, which mannerisms and tone of voice would be more convincing, what sort of arguments have more sway, and so on. This is not full mind control: if you hate her or refuse to listen, nothing she says can change your mind. She basically had a supercharged version of the vaguely preternatural charisma that Napoleon had over his soldiers. In the dream, Sweet-talk, who appeared as a South Asian woman, had already gathered millions of people in a questionably benevolent, quite paternalistic commune/borderline hivemind.

Their first turn off the main corridor leads to a room piled high with corpses.

"Fresh recruits for Ketheric's army," Minthara says, peering around dispassionately at the carnage. "To a necromancer, a morgue is a muster yard."

"The stench..." Rakha mutters. "I wonder how many pilgrimages to Moonrise ended down here."

Indeed, the smell of this place is one of the worst she has ever encountered. It is a combination of rot and the metallic scent of blood and the sour-sweet smell of marinating offal. The air is sticky and hot, saturated with the stench till it seems to drip down Rakha's face.

The beast stirs in her head. Yesss... it purrs. This is like an image from the terrible dreams it sends her in the night. Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood. Blood.

How many have died here?

Several of the intellect devourers crawl along the walls. At the center of the room is a bugbear, shirtless and sweat-soaked, wielding a heavy cleaver. He is in the process of hacking the head off of a corpse as Rakha approaches him.

He grunts, barely looking up.

Narrator: No will sparks behind his eyes. His mind has been hollowed out, to better echo the commands of the collective.

"A ghaik thrall," Lae'zell mutters disdainfully. "The only way to save it is to kill it."

These thoughts drift through Rakha's head, first as counterpoints to each other. But truly she doesn't see why they shouldn't do both.

[ILLITHID] Enter his thoughts.

Narrator: Pliant as well-worn boots, his mind turns to his work. Chop. Cut. Sort. Shiver of impact. Crack of bone. He removes the brains, digs free the squirming tadpoles. The unworthy ones, given over to the illithids. To become...

Rakha shudders at the images of gore, of flesh rended and bone shattered. "Become what?" she demands hoarsely.

"Part of One Mind," the bugbear answers haltingly. "Four little feet. Dancing. To same song."

Narrator: With a lurch, you realize he means the intellect devourers. Here the brains are harvested - made part of the hivemind.

"What is this place?" she presses. Out of the corner of her eye, she can see Wyll looking around with horror, but for the moment she ignores it. This creature has answers, and she must have them too.

"Nur. Sery..." whispers the bugbear. "Here. They become..."

"What did you do to all these people?" she asks. She's uncomfortably aware that the beast in her head wants the answer as much as she does.

"Chop. Chop..." he says distantly. "Help them. Become?"

This is getting them nowhere. "I need to find your master," she says curtly. "Ketheric."

To her surprise, something seems to break through the bugbear's blankness for a moment. His eyes widen with distinct fear.

"Mas. Ter... No! Down... deep. One of Three. One of Three!"

Then the moment passes. His gaze fades out again and he says no more.

Rakha draws a slow breath, lets it out. She shoots a sideways look at Lae'zel. Yes. This would be a killing with purpose. The cult has broken this creature beyond repair, and he barely even provides any answers.

"Why don't I send you," she says, quietly, flatly, "to join all these creatures you butchered?"

Again his eyes widen. Again that brief flash of lucidity. "Yes," he mutters. "Yes. Please."

He has barely finished uttering the last word before Rakha's knife sinks into his throat.

Later, after they have fought off the swarm of intellect devourers that rose up at this action, Rakha wipes the blood off her knife and thinks.

"Sometimes, killing is kindness, then," she says abruptly to Wyll.

He cocks his head, then nods slightly. "When living is the more horrible option, it can be. Yes. But that's very rarely the case." He pauses, then looks around uneasily at their surroundings. "...Though I'd wager less rare down here than otherwise."

He picks up a few blood-soaked sheets of paper from one of the butcher tables and looks at them.

"Damn," he mutters bleakly. "They brought children here to be carved up."

Rakha says nothing, and quietly hates the way the beast purrs contentedly at this thought.

Love Me, Normally (If he were honest with himself. Wilbur is wracked with jealousy for humanity that he disguises as hatred. Die young mentality, insomnia, bridge 2 addressed to the void, 'Is it courageous or escapist to leave the quarantine when you’re contagious?' as a comment on the danger of anomalies and if they should be contained)

The Blade:

Red Water Dreams by Aviators (The sea motif of the voices, being a vessel for The Blood God, finding blame in those who unleashed his apocalyptic revenge. The entire chorus fits so well. 'Vicious thoughts are stirring/And I hunger for their power')

Paralyzed by Aviators (He's just an Aviators boy, what can I say, it's the violence and upbeat tempos man. Really this is The Blood God's song. His challengers as a duty to cull, as he's forced to hunt down every last foe that laid a hand upon his vessel. The thrill of battle, impending doom, 'I will give you one fair chance' because he really does seek a good fight. The Blade is the one paralyzed, unable to do anything but watch as his body is used for destruction)

Turn Out the Lights by The Crane Wives (Because The Blade does actually handle The Blood God/voices pretty well. I feel this song captures the way he just sorta rolls his eyes and shrugs off the intrusive thoughts most of the time)

Philza:

Rule #9 - Child of the Stars by Fish in a Birdcage (Wilbur as a wanderer, but works for any Collected for fostering their growth. Father vibes. Philza raising his children to be strong, independent people. A gentle expectation of greatness, because he picks out the exceptional among humanity)

Hot Tea by Half Alive (His sheer adoration of his Collected, also fun to swap the roles so that it is the god showing devotion. The pure warmth and sweetness matches Philza. In retrospect I need a song about protective violence but eh I set a 3 song limit.)

Time Machine by Miracle Musical (Amnestic arc. Particularly with loneliness and the vehemence in 'look at what you've done now to me', as well as 'I'm leaving today, today' with his confused insistence that he leaves at the end of the week. The way Philza is dragged in and out of grief at the whims of the Foundation, left free floating and disorientated)

Tubbo:

Soap by The Oh Hellos (Actual perfect Tubbo song. WHiT Croplands interlude. Themes of pacifism, how Tubbo is made of pieces, the separation between humans and anomalies and how the Hivemind can cross that barrier. Learning when to let go/hold on with the Tommy, Hive members, Willow. The 2nd chorus as Rhodes trying to convince Tubbo to leave Tommy in Jasper, with the response of 'I think that you’re worth (keeping around/holding onto)' to both Rhodes and Tommy's Never Love an Anchor. And imagining Tubbo saying the last stanza to Tommy makes me so soft)

Escapism by Rebecca Sugar (Dissociation. Grey chapter in general, specifically Pewter for being firm in convictions: 'shouldn't show a trace of doubt' and telling Rosalind the sacrifice won't hurt them, as well as trying to force a dissociative episode when their hand is sawed off)

Saint Bernard by Lincoln (ok this is a troll but also fits well for Cinnabar and Old Gauze. The guilt of failing one's morals. Technically Tubbo is in Indiana satanic and chained up, but I'll let it slide. The Saint Calvin verse is so good for the Rhodes-Tommy tension + Foundation destroying families. Also the way Tubbo blames their self-loathing on Rosalind, making the chorus apt for the Hivemind mess) (but also its funny to give Tubbo the classic edgy character song)

Take Me to War by The Crane Wives (She sees herself as forced to be ruthless to survive against powerful anomalies. 'And I'll rankle the beasts with words' for her manipulation. Also epithets in the dehumanizing way the Foundation avoids names. Verse 3 is Tubbo 'corrupting' the guards when they saved humans from Philza)

Solaria, Kevin / End-World Normopathy by GHOST (Tommy, with religious themes and verse 5/Kevin understood as The Blood God. The cold cruelty of the Foundation, sentience as a failure/flaw in a tool (Tommy), Dr. Blake completely separating her personal and professional selves because to have humanity is only a weakness anomalies will exploit. 'Though you’ll never die, you’ve found that/All eyes are staring at your hands' is an absolutely perfect line for summoning sessions)

Gladly!! All I've shared so far are two little snippets I posted some time back that are tagged under 'dnb god au' if you'd like to read that :) I'll also explain some stuff that probably isn't obvious.

There are two 'classes' of gods separated by a huge generation gap. The first generation, the Ancients, consists of gods like Lady Death. Primordial beings that rumors say have existed as long as time itself. The newer generation is gods like Dream and Techno. Gods who preside over things mostly related to humans, which is where many believe the distinction in age came from.

Dream is the benevolent god of sleep and dreams. He can fall asleep anywhere, sing any god to sleep with his lullabies (except Ancients), and he fulfills the dream wishes of humans. When people pray to him, either just for a good night's rest or a certain dream they want to have, he does it all by sending his Blobs into the human world. The Blobs operate on a hivemind that Dream leads, so they're basically an extension of himself. However, he isn't also so nice and sweet. There was a time he turned into an 'alter ego' of sorts, Nightmare, which had a devastating impact on the human population.

Techno is the god of war. He gained the nickname Blood God for his absolute domination and merciless ways on the battlefield. The deciding factor in any war was who prayed to him the hardest. However, these days he's in a sort of 'retirement'. When there's no wars going on in the human world, he just chills farming potatos on his island. Though, his Chat still long for the days of constant bloodshed and conflict, so sometimes he can snap and blindly destroy things and hurt people around him.

Returning to the topic of islands, once a god is born, they're given their own personal island in the divine realm: a place that epitomizes who they are and what domain they preside over. Techno's island is a giant potato farm surrounding a log cabin. Dream's island is very open and spacious, with obstacles he regularly parkours on and soft rest areas for when he naps.

Other characters in this au include George, Sapnap, Bad, Wilbur, Phil, and some others possibly if I get around to figuring out what their domains will be. I might make another note about them, but they're not major actors.

then they pitched the idea to the families and they were like "what in the name of. fuck...???? okay, you kids have fun, have my blessing" n they came to the conclusion that Zephyr is enough of a Big Deal wiht Big Authority (senior and also the oldest man-made god of the whole continent) to officiate a marriage so she played the role of the priest!
