'Premiered on 4 April 2024, this period thriller drama will take viewers back to 1960s Italy with Andrew Scott stepping into the shoes of notorious grifter Tom Ripley in the new Netflix series.
While Patricia Highsmith’s bestselling Tom Ripley novels have been morphed for page-to-screen adaptation several times, it is the 1999 film The Talented Mr Ripley, starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jude Law, that has become a classic favourite among cinephiles. If you have seen it, you might have a fair idea of what you’re getting into.
The TV series, helmed by Academy Award winner Steven Zaillian, depicts a compelling journey back in time via black-and-white frames. Coupled with gripping performances by the entire cast, the new take on The Talented Mr Ripley renders a rather ominous vibe to the plot.
With so much being talked about and mystery swelling around the complex life of Tom Ripley, the natural question is are any more seasons scheduled for release?
Will there be a season 2 of Ripley on Netflix? Here’s what we know
What is Ripley about?
Though viewers are no strangers to the dark world of Highsmith’s morally dubious character Tom Ripley, the story gets an episodic makeover as a 2024 Netflix show.
The eight-part story revolves around the protagonist Tom Ripley (Scott), a small-time swindler in 1960s New York. His life turns around when a wealthy man hires him to travel to Italy and convince his trifler son, Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn), to return home. Accepting this offer was just the first step towards a descent into a world of deception, fraud and murder. When he reaches the serene town of Atrani where Dickie is perfectly settled with his writer girlfriend Marge Sherwood (Dakota Fanning), Tom is awe-struck by his lavish lifestyle. A clever presentation of truth with an unmissable charm is enough to get the master con artist into Dickie’s good books. From here, Tom climbs his way up into Dickie’s close quarters and ends up going to extreme lengths to make that life his own.
Each episode has a runtime of about 50 minutes, while the finale is 74 minutes long.
Ripley is based on which book?
Highsmith’s Ripley books make up a series of five novels, dubbed ‘Ripliad’, which debuted in 1955 with The Talented Mr Ripley.
Netflix’s Ripley is based on this first book. It is followed by other titles — Ripley Under Ground (1970), Ripley’s Game (1974), The Boy Who Followed Ripley (1980) and Ripley Under Water (1981).
Speaking to Vanity Fair in December 2023, Zaillian said, “Almost 70 years after Highsmith created him, contemporary figures are still being compared to him. He won’t go away.”
Interestingly enough, the book also led to the evocative monochrome filming style. “The edition of the Ripley book I had on my desk had an evocative black-and-white photograph on the cover,” Zaillian said.
“As I was writing, I held that image in my mind. Black and white fits this story — and it’s gorgeous,” he added.
The Ripley cast and crew
Besides Andrew Scott, Johnny Flynn and Dakota Fanning the cast also includes Eliot Sumner as Freddie Miles, who suspected the diabolical nature of Tom’s congeniality, Maurizio Lombardi as Inspector Ravini and John Malkovich as Reeves Minot.
In March 2024, Town & Country quoted Scott commenting about portraying the titular character. He said, “I feel like you’re required to love and advocate for your characters, and your job is to go, Why? What’s that? You don’t play the opinions, the previous attitudes that people might have about Tom Ripley. You have to throw all those out, try not to listen to them, and go, Okay, well, I have to have the courage to create our own version and my own understanding of the character.”
The project is written, directed and executive produced by Zaillian. Besides him, other executive producers include Garrett Basch, Clayton Townsend, Guymon Casady, Benjamin Forkner, Sharon Levy and Philipp Keel.
How does Ripley end?
The brilliant chiaroscuro acts as an omnipresent cast member throughout the series, accentuating the sombre tone, which almost reaches a crescendo in the eighth episode. By the end of the final episode, titled Narcissus, Tom Ripley has a body count of two — Freddie Miles and Dickie Greenleaf — and has successfully ripped off Dickie’s life by using his name and money. However, the Italian police are after him for one crime he didn’t commit, the murder of Tom Ripley.
Seizing the perfect opportunity, Tom plays another card by conveniently walking into the police resuming his own identity. He manages to convince Inspector Ravini, Marge and Mr Greenleaf that Dickie died, albeit with strong undercurrents of suspense and tension that could make viewers sit up anxiously, as there are pressing moments when his deceit is on the verge of spilling out.
Once the dust is settled and mystery is buried like Dickie’s corpse at sea, Tom Ripley plays another con trick to begin his new life as Timothy Fanshaw, but that is another story to tell.
Production and filming of Ripley
The Ripley series was originally being developed by Showtime, but Netflix picked it up in 2023 while it was in post-production. The principal shooting took place in Italy — Rome and Venice — in accordance with the book’s setting. Certain portions were also filmed in New York to capture the 1960s vibe of the city.
Economic Times states that although production was slated to begin in 2020, it got delayed until 2021 for certain reasons.
Will there be a Ripley season 2?
Netflix has billed it as a limited series. The episodes have rounded up both the plot quite well, though certain creative liberties from the book make it somewhat ambiguous.
Although there is no official nod from Netflix about a second season, the OTT platform states, “But given the opportunity, Zaillian would love to continue to adapt the affectionately nicknamed ‘Ripliad’.”
Speaking to Tudum in April 2024, Zaillian said, “I think that the other books are good, and we see Tom in a lot of different ways as he grows up.” Who knows, this can be a step towards creating a ‘Ripliad’ franchise by expanding Tom Ripley’s world.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

-What is the ending of Ripley? Ripley is based on Patricia Highsmith’s novel The Talented Mr Ripley. It follows Tom Ripley (played by Andrew Scott) arriving in Italy to convince Dickie Greenleaf (Johnny Flynn) to return to the US. However, his life and opulence captivate Tom. Hollywood: Daytime Goes to the Beach Aaron Spelling will bring sunshine and sand to set-bound soap operas with his new ‘Sunset Beach’
Nov 4, 1996 By Betsy Sharke Except for a nasty cold, Aaron Spelling couldn’t be in much better spirits. He’s spent most of the day with his office crammed full of wardrobe racks and cast members from Sunset Beach, the first daytime drama that Spelling Entertainment has ever done and the first daytime drama to be introduced on network TV in eight years (1989’s Generations was the last — and it didn’t).
‘We brought in 12 racks of clothes,’ says Spelling. ‘I think fashion is as important to a serial as anything else.’ Fashion sets the tone. It defines the palette. The length of a skirt, the style of jeans, can tell the viewer volumes about a character before the first word of dialogue is spoken. Spelling already loves the Sunset Beach cast — their names have been added to his annual Christmas party list — and on this day he is doling out advice to them on everything from buying a new car to renting apartments to how to handle fame, should it be lucky enough to come. He has issued his no-hair-changes dictum — Sunset cast members had better be happy with the style and color they start the show with, because Spelling isn’t about to let them confuse a new audience with a makeover any time soon. It is a long-standing rule for a Spelling show, and his staff knows that he’s deadly serious about it even if some of the awestruck actors don’t — yet. On Jan. 6, Sunset Beach will hit the air. ‘The series is a critical component of NBC West Coast president Don Ohlmeyer’s plan to make the network’s daytime schedule as potent as its prime time. NBC is in third place in daytime, though the net is up 20 percent this season and is closing in on second-place ABC. Ohlmeyer has his sights set on first, which CBS now owns. ‘With Sunset, we have something new and hot and exciting,’ Ohlmeyer says. ‘(In) the ‘80s, NBC daytime basically disintegrated. We are in the process of rebuilding, but we have to deliver the goods. That’s how we’ve built prime time, with distinctive programming. ‘There hasn’t been a successful soap launched in 10 years. It’s very difficult to do, but with Aaron’s touch and looking at the cast we have, we think it’s worth the effort. Some of our affiliates are very receptive (to the show) some, we’re in the process of kidnapping their children.’ On Stage 11 at NBC Studios in Burbank, carpenters and set designers are working late into the night to complete the sets that will form the primary backdrop for the show. The small community of Seal Beach, roughly a 90-minute drive south of Los Angeles, has been scouted nearly grain by grain of sand. It will be the exterior home for Sunset, and unlike most daytime soaps, the location will be a frequent player. Last week, readings and the first of three weeks of shooting exteriors began. The Santa Anas — California’s devil winds — stirred up the sand, making it sting on the skin. The water, which is never warm at Seal Beach, was even colder than usual. But no one was complaining. The 22 actors who will give shape and form to Sunset Beach are a beautiful bunch indeed, a canvas of racial diversity plucked from the talent pool in New York, Los Angeles and other cities including Philadelphia, the hometown of Spelling Entertainment president Jonathan Levin, who went back for that casting session. They are also young faces, part of the strategy to make Sunset a daytime soap for younger viewers, to do for daytime drama what Ricki Lake did for talk, at least in terms of attracting a new audience. Spelling is considered a master at casting, instinctively knowing which faces will work together as a couple, which actors will have that all-important element of chemistry. Now the virtually unknown Sunsetters are all in front of him, many meeting for the first time, and the air is electric. ‘One of my favorite sports is finding new people and combining them with other people, and I had used so many people from daytime on our soaps,’ says Spelling, whose legacy includes such prime-time legends as Loveboat and Dynasty. The company is currently on prime time with an unprecedented four dramas: Melrose Place; Beverly Hills, 90210; Savannah; and Seventh Heaven. Sunset has been 18 months in the making, and Spelling is like a proud papa, surrounded by actors whose future he has just secured. The series, which is co-owned by Spelling and NBC, has a one-year commitment from the network. That’s 51 weeks of shows, 255 hour-long episodes guaranteed. ‘I wouldn’t tell Candy, my wife, for a week after the show was sold, but my daughter Tori is a daytime addict, and she kept saying, ‘Do it,” says Spelling. With four shows already on the air, he has little time. Launching a daytime soap would siphon off even more of it. ‘I don’t think it hit me for a while. OnMelrose, we wrap on the 22nd of November and don’t come back until January 5th. The actors and writers get a chance to rest. This is never-ending. But it’s been a strange, great experience.’ Worldvision, which sells Spelling’s shows internationally, already has 10 countries signed on for Sunsetwithout one scene shot, based on a four-minute video that outlined the premise of the show and included Spelling talking about it. The foreign sales are important, as is NBC’s share in the financing. Mounting a daytime drama from scratch is a massive undertaking. ‘It requires the logistics of mounting a military campaign,’ says Levin. ‘There’s huge construction, there’s an enormous amount of lighting, tremendous casting, wardrobe problems. It’s not like prime time, when you see life in a kind of episodic way. Daytime is an endless stream of programming that, once it’s begun, can’t be stopped.’ Ohlmeyer puts the production investment alone at about $50 million. ‘Then there’s the cost of launch, advertising and promotion — it’s a major commitment on our part,’ he says. ‘With daytime, you’re not really going to know anything concretely for 18 months. I feel we’re very much on track. We’ve done this in a really organized way in terms of laying out target dates, scripts in by here, cast in place by here, task force working on clearances to this point we’re right on schedule. That still doesn’t change the pucker factor.’ NBC was initially looking at four ideas, Spelling’s idea among them, for a daytime soap. Spelling’s concept originally was loosely defined as ‘Melrose Place at the beach.’ When they began to look seriously for a title for the new show, Spelling ran a title contest in-house. The winner would get $200. There were dozens of suggestions, but the most serious contender, Never Say Goodbye, came from an unlikely source: Viacom chairman Sumner Redstone, who suggested it during a dinner with Spelling. ‘I loved the name — it says romance, which this show is all about,’ says Spelling, whose company is part of Viacom. But in testing, viewers were drawn to the ‘beach’ motif more than anything else, Spelling says. Executive producer Gary Tomlin (Santa Barbara) and Robert Guza Jr. are the people on the front line of the creative side of Sunset Beach. The initial groundwork on the series was done by Chuck Pratt, who was an executive producer on Melrose Place, and Guza, whose work everyone knew from Spelling’sModels Inc. Together they wrote a nearly 400-page bible outlining Sunset’s premise, characters and storyline. Spelling remembers the bible for Melrose Place being closer to 40 pages. Unlike most daytime dramas, which tend to build their storylines around families and family rivalries,Sunset Beach is about young singles and couples who have been drawn to the town, and the relationships that emerge as the action unfolds. The producers also created an underlying mythology about the town as a place where one can find true love. ‘We loved the idea of creating a town and making the town a character,’ says Guza, who is cocreator and head writer. ‘(With) Sunset Beach, you get to create this world and these characters, and then you get to screw up their lives.’ Sunset Beach is being written at a faster pace than traditional daytime dramas. It’s a delicate balancing act to move action through each episode without losing the audience. ‘We would love it if people watched five days a week, but they don’t,’ says Tomlin. Three days is more typical. ‘We have to make certain they’re able to pick up where the story left off and that it hasn’t moved so rapidly that they can’t figure it out.’ The show is also being designed to allow room for cameos by big-name prime-time stars. Spelling wants to give viewers as compelling a reason as possible to tune in to Sunset. ‘On top of needing to have a terrific show, you are fighting against viewer habits that are long, long ingrained,’ says Levin. ‘It is very difficult to change the loyalty of the daytime viewer, and we’re talking about shows that have been on for 30 years. That’s one of the reasons we’re targeting young viewers — they’re the most available and the most flexible in their viewing habits.’ Then there is the station lineup. Affiliates exert their independence far more in daytime than prime time. NBC says that Sunset is cleared on 85 percent of its affiliates; the network expects to reach 90 percent by the premiere. With the cast now in place and the first rolls of tapes being produced, the network knows that stations that are wavering at least will have something concrete to see. ‘Will we get sufficient coverage — that’s a constant battle,’ says Levin. ‘Will the local affiliates elect to air the show in desirable time slots that will afford us the best opportunity to be sampled? These are things we are lobbying for but ultimately we don’t control.’ Spelling and NBC executives hope that Sunset Beach will be scheduled to follow Days of Our Lives, which has made a dramatic turnaround. ‘Over the last 18 months with that show, it’s been unbelievable, going from being in the middle to the top,’ Ohlmeyer says. ‘If we can get that kind of performance from Another World — and we think we’re finally on the right track there — with Sunset Beach we could have a solid three-hour block.’ Copyright ASM Communications, Inc. ► Andrea Zuckerman
Andrea is a dedicated high school student at West Beverly, who also serves as the editor of the West Beverly Blaze – the school newspaper. Engaging in a plethora of extra credit programmes and volunteering, the girl living out of district is set on reaching her goal of an academic scholarship to Yale University. Andrea is incredibly sweet and has a big heart; she is also a very logical person, which leads to her feeling socially awkward and therefore adopting a more shy nature when trying to talk to other students.
Her logical nature can leave her very blunt in her emotional expression, but she finds acceptance and a sense of self in her relationships with the gang. Her close friendship with Brandon Walsh, although their relationship is never truly platonic, changes her course somewhat – for the better – as Andrea starts engaging in the high school social life and makes friends for life.
Andrea spends her time at West Beverly working toward academic stardom and has little time for anything – or one – else. The down-to-earth nature of the Minnesota twins has a deep effect on a number of students, but Andrea's lifestyle is immediately altered by Brandon Walsh's presence in her life. After initially assuming he is superficial, Brandon makes an effort to explain his behaviour to Andrea and accidentally learns of Andrea's family situation, with her living out of district and he is there for her, the two of them developing a close bond. While maintaining they're just friends, they have an undeniable chemistry, which neither seem willing to act upon for a year.
Andrea begins to lessen her at times intense black-and-white behaviour towards others and starts opening up to the possibility of making friends at her school. This starts with Brenda, who Brandon encourages to include Andrea in a mother-daughter fashion show, hosted by Kelly's mother. While Brenda is reluctant at first, she quickly finds that they all get along well. Andrea provides a different perspective on Kelly's difficult home life when she tells Kelly that she considers her amazing, for leading the life she leads while taking on such an adult responsibility, which she shouldn't have to deal with. When Brenda later wishes to do something fulfilling in Beverly Hills, Brandon sets her up with Andrea, who works at a teen helpline.
The Blaze signs out for the summer with a meeting and cake at West Beverly, where Brandon tries to talk to Andrea about what happened between them. Brandon doesn't seem willing to immediately let go of what happened, but Andrea insists that it would be best if they just go back to being friends. Andrea is tutoring kids over the summer and decides to enroll in a summer drama class, which Brenda and Donna also take. Andrea also approaches Brandon to become a big brother to a kid at the center where she tutors kids. When Brandon finds out his mother is abusive, he seeks out Andrea and together they help find Felix a solution.
Starting her junior year, Andrea returns as the editor at The Blaze. Though she was adamant that she and Brandon should just stay friends, Andrea is visibly jealous when Brandon takes an interest in new girl Emily Valentine, who also starts working at the paper to be closer to Brandon. Although it's hard for Andrea to see Brandon with someone else, she never tells him how she really feels or changes her mind about wanting to be with him. They continue to be friends and Andrea attends the Walsh barbecue where Emily is invited, too. Later, she and Brandon watch the girls perform at 'Hello Day' together. Andrea continues to hang out with the gang, spending an evening at Casa Walsh with everyone and meeting the twins' cousin, Bobby. Brandon accidentally gets Andrea worried when he submits her work for a journalism competition and she wins, prompting an interviewer to want to visit her home, though she lives out of district.
Andrea wrestles with whether to attend Yale or CU, and ultimately decides, for financial reason, to give the Ivy League a miss and stay in Beverly Hills with the gang. Andrea, Kelly, Brenda, and Donna make an effort to pledge the Alpha Omega sorority. However, when Andrea was told by Leslie Sumner to downplay her Jewish heritage, Andrea is obviously offended and dropped out of the running. Leslie later apologized, stating she herself was Jewish, and they made up, though Andrea did not return to sorority life.
Andrea forged a bond with Donna Martin when they shared with one another their decision to wait to have sex. Andrea eventually has sex with her RA, Dan Rubin, which becomes a part of the issue leading to a minor tiff between her and Donna. Andrea and Brenda find themselves on opposite sides when Brenda joins a group which attempts to free animals from a CU test lab. Andrea works at the facility and feels betrayed by Brenda since the lab doesn't actually harm animals in the first place. This season shows Andrea growing closer to the girls in the 90210 gang, with the famous Kelly/Brenda/Donna trio including Andrea, who was previously mainly close friends with just Brandon and Brenda. She forges her own strong bonds with both Donna and Kelly, which last throughout the show's run.
Soon after starting her relationship with Dan Rubin, Andrea meets Jesse Vasquez at Jim and Cindy Walsh's 20th anniversary party and the two click instantly. While still technically with Dan, Andrea begins a relationship with Jesse. She breaks up with Dan who, still in love with Andrea, makes racial comments toward Jesse. Dan eventually moves out of the dorm and Jesse and Andrea continue to date. This leads to the most controversial, and unexpected, storyline development in the character's history. Andrea Zuckerman, having slept with Jesse only once without protection, soon finds that she was pregnant.
After months in the hospital, Andrea and Jesse are finally able to take the baby girl home. Andrea's early season 5 storylines were mostly limited to minor daycare issues, and the struggles she faced as a young mother trying to juggle a new marriage, child, and keeping up her always high marks in college. The early marriage and child story, while a high point for the character a season before, began alienating her from the gang, and Andrea's character was beginning to fade into the background.
Attempts were made during the second half of the season to inject some life into Andrea's waning story. She was thrust back into the political arena, sharing screen time once again with Brandon, a move designed to keep her more involved in campus life, and remind audiences of her once strong political passions. Her marriage was thrown into trouble when she and Jesse had difficulty getting past their religious differences; she being Jewish and he being Catholic. Later a complete physical makeover of the character was allowed; though she'd already shed the glasses a year before, Andrea's hair was suddenly blonde, and she was allowed to wear more fashion and body conscious wear, perhaps in an attempt to visually mesh her with the rest of the women on the canvas. All aspects of the once socially awkward, borderline "nerd" were now wiped clean.
Andrea knows sign language and is fairly adept at Spanish.
She mentions having a sister one time.

Our ship anchored offshore this amazing jewel on the west coast of California. The Catalina Casino is located in Avalon on Santa Catalina Island, off the coast of Los Angeles in California. It is the most visible landmark in Avalon Bay and when approaching the island from the mainland. The large building contains a movie theater & ballroom. Opened: May 29, 1929. Designed by Architect Sumner Spaulding. Architectural styles: Art Deco, Mediterranean Revival architecture. After 90 years as a haven for movie buffs on Catalina Island, the Avalon Theatre in the Catalina Casino is ending its run as a traditional film venue. The theater won’t be permanently closing its doors, but the Catalina Island Company announced the venue, located on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles, is moving from a first-run theater into a repertory showcase. “It’s just not a sustainable movie theater,” Catalina Casino CEO Randy Herrel told Variety. “Attendance is upside-down. It’s only gotten worse.” In a town of 4,000 residents, it became increasingly difficult to routinely fill the theater of some 1,184 seats. Over the past year, Avalon Theatre found that 85% of movies shown had just 42 people in attendance per night. Sparse attendance is not for lack of investment. In the last five years, the Catalina Island Company gave the theater a makeover, installed a new sound system and screen, and repaired the 43-foot high dome ceiling to enhance the moviegoing experience for its patrons. Avalon also started offering a wider range of dining and beverage options like pizza, hot dogs, and a bar in addition to traditional movie snacks. But Herrell points to the rise in streaming services for the direct decline in ticket sales. Sadly All the building tours were full for today. Arriving in Angeles
 Thanks to @tracie-beauchamp, @aileen-hollingsworth, and @anastilinskii!
Tumblr media
I could barely see from all the camera flashes shining in my eyes. It was finally the day of my send-off. This was the biggest crowd of people that I’ve ever seen. I was wearing a white blouse and black pants (as it was mandatory for all the selected) with a Nemophila in my ear. It was the national flower of Waverly. After awkwardly standing on the stage for five minutes, the mayor finally spoke.
“We are here today, to send off the beautiful daughter of Colette and Théodore Lafleur, the new Lady Naomi Lafleur! Let’s give her a round of applause!”
Some people in the crowd were booing and screaming about how unfair it was that a Five got chosen, while the rest were cheering as loud as they could.
“We wish you the best of luck! Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in sending off Naomi Lafleur, our favorite Daughter of Illea!” he said to end off his speech.
It was time for my farewells. I went over to Étienne first, where he gave me a hug. He kept telling me that he couldn’t be any prouder.
“Yes, yes, yes, I know. I’ll miss you, too. Remember to feed Edgar! Love you, bro,” I said.
Next was Victoire and Lucien.
“Try not to get into any fights with each other, alright? Don’t make it too hard for mom and Étienne. I’ll miss you guys so much and I’ll try to write letters to you as much as I can. If you need any help while no one is home, go find Zara,” I said as I embraced them in a big hug.
Finally, my mom kissed my forehead.
“You have no idea how proud I am of you. Just have fun, okay? And remember this, ma fleur, c'est dans le besoin qu'on reconnaît ses vrais amis. A friend in need is a friend indeed. Don’t become friends with the girls who aren’t going to be there for you when you are in need. I am going to miss you more than you can imagine, ma chere. Oh, and I heard that Chef Baguette will be cooking while you’re there! Tell me how good his food tastes! Je t’adore!”
“I’ll write to you guys as soon as I get there! I love y-,” was all that I managed to say before I was pushed into the car. I looked back at my family from the window as I started to break down.
I’d heard the sad news from one of the officials in the car with me. Apparently, one of the selected was shot by a rebel at her farewell ceremony. I think the name was… Azalea. She was from Hansport, which was right next to Waverly. It made my stomach hurt. She was the youngest of all of the selected. What if those rebels were going to get me next? What if that was me? R.I.P Azalea Archer
I was brought to the the Waverly Airport, where I got to take a private plane to Sumner. Once all five girls got to Sumner, we would all take the same airplane to Angeles. I sat in the private jet alone while the other officials were getting ready for take off.
I should probably memorize the other girls’ names. Hmmm… First we have…  Ana Stilinski from Hudson. Next, there’s… Aileen Hollingsworth from Dominica. Then there’s Patricia Beauchamp. How are they so pretty?! Hopefully they’re nice as well.
The airplane was ready to take off now. This was the first time that I’ve been on a plane since I was six years old. I started to feel  really queasy. It’s alright, Naomi. Don’t worry. Everything will be fine. Don’t worry. I closed my eyes for a few minutes. When I opened them, I was in awe. I looked out the window and my jaw dropped. The sky was absolutely incredible. I immediately took out all my paint brushes and started to draw an outline.
Tumblr media
Once we landed in Sumner, they rushed me to the other side of the airport. I was the third one there. Tracie and Ana were already there waiting for me and Aileen.
“Hi, I’m Naomi!”
The first girl waved. “Patricia, but call me Tracie.”
“Cool! So where are you from, Tracie?”
“Whites, but officially Sumner. There have been a problem with my letter... Anyway, what about you?”
“How's it like in Whites? I live in Waverly and it's usually pretty cold”
“If it's pretty cold in Waverly, it's deadly cold in Whites! But I will miss it”
“I'll make sure to wear lots of layers next time I go to Whites then!”
“It's worth it, the landscapes are wonderful!”
“So how old are you?” I asked, trying to keep the conversation going.
Wait, wait, wait. You already knew all this, Naomi! Once we started talking, I forgot all their castes and ages.
“16, but I'm gonna turn 17 in March.”
“I am 17, my birthday is in May,” Ana finally said.
I guess she was just a little timid earlier. I can’t blame her, I was scared that this conversation would become awkward.
“Does it mean I am the youngest person of this selection? My sister hopes I will stay long enough to celebrate my birthday in the palace, she's insane”
“Oh, you have a sister as well? Older or younger?”
“Older, she's 26. Do you have siblings?”
“I have a younger sister named Victoire. She's only 8 years old, along with Lucien, her twin. So we're the younger ones of the selected, I see. I thought Azalea Archer was the youngest. Did you hear the unfortunate news?”
“Younger twins, it is not always easy I guess. Yeah, just before my farewell ceremony. I can't believe it. She has been shot because she was only a selected, this is unfair”
Ana gasped. “Oh my god! I didn't know it!”
“It is so sad. I overheard it from one of the officials who were driving me to my first plane”
“Nobody told you Ana? That's strange.”
“Luckily, no other selected were harmed by the rebels though. Anyways, what are your hobbies?"
“Studying physics in general, or looking after my nephew,” Tracie shrugged.
Wow, she must be really smart. Keep calm, Naomi. Don’t make yourself too awkward.
“That's cool. I like painting or practicing Taekwondo... How about you, Ana?” I added, trying to include her in the conversation.
“Taekwondo? Remember me to stay away from you or not to get you angry!” she responded.
“Hahaha, don't worry. You both seem nice and it's usually pretty hard to get me angry.”
“Sometimes I say something before thinking about it, I need people like you who don't get angry,” Tracie giggled.
“I like playing the violin, and hanging out with my friends,” answering my earlier question.
“Are you in caste five as well?” I asked.
“No I'm a Three, but I really like the sound of the string quartets,” she said.
Why did I assume her caste? I already knew she was a three!
“I know what you mean Ana. It's pretty relaxing,” said Tracie.
“Hahaha, I speak before thinking a lot too,”  Ana responded.
“Finally someone who knows what I live every freaking day!”
“Cool! I love listening to string quartets as well. I can sort of play the viola but it's not my expertise. The ukulele are where my skills are at,” I chuckled.
“My brother-in-law can play the ukulele that's a funny instrument,” Tracie added.
“Did you bring it?” She asked.
“Yeah, they only allowed me to bring my special ukulele after I begged them to,” I replied.
I saw a redhead walking towards us.
“Did someone say ukulele?” She asked.
“Hi, you must be Aileen! I'm Naomi,” I said to greet her.
After the introductions, we boarded the plane.
“Is this your first time flying?” I asked Aileen.
She shook her head. “I've traveled ever since I could walk.”
Wow, I can’t imagine having to travelling that much in my life.
“Really? What caste are you in? The only other time that I've traveled is when I moved to Waverly from France!” I said.
“Oh you come from France, Naomi? I have family there!” Tracie stated.
“You have family in France? I moved when I was around six, so I barely remember anything from then. I'm really tired. Sorry... *yawn* I'm going to take a nap, guys. Wake me up when we get there!”
“Okay, good nap Naomi,” said Tracie.
Aileen nodded. I fell asleep right away.
Right when we got into the palace, we each had to take our ‘Before’ photos. After my photo was taken, a lady named Clementine, gestured me into a chair.
“Hi, you’re Naomi, right? I’m here to give you your makeover along with Matilda over here. Do you have any questions or shall I just start?” asked Clementine in a harsh tone.
“Um… You can begin,” I said.
“Now what can we do with her hair?” whispered Clementine.
“Hmmm… Should we dye it or cut it shorter?” asked Matilda.
“I quite like her hair. I think we should just cut it shoulder length and curl it a bit”
“Yeah, we can do that. Let’s begin!”
Matilda started to trim my hair while Clementine worked on makeup and nails. It was really rushed.
Tumblr media
“Ugh, your nails are absolutely horrid. How am I supposed to work on these” Clementine said in disgust.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once I was finished with the makeover, I looked at the mirror. I thought that Clementine and Matilda did absolutely amazing and I started to feel more confident.
I was brought to my room where I met my three maids.
“Hello, Lady Naomi. I’m Aurora, this is Eleanor, and that is Lavender! We will be your maids for the duration of your stay,” said Aurora,
“You can just call me Naomi. It’s nice to meet you three!” I responded.
“We have a few dresses for you to pick here. We are supposed to bring you back downstairs to take your ‘after’ photos.” Lavender said.
There was a rack of lovely gowns behind them. Eventually, I chose the simple gray one with some black heels. They brought me downstairs where I lined up to get my photo taken.
Tumblr media
Once I was finished, I went to my back to my room, where I met Mila. Her room was right next to mine and she seemed quite kind. We exchanged some smiles and introduced ourselves to each other. I was getting tired so I went inside and got ready for bed. As I tried to fall asleep, I then realized how competitive this would turn out… but I was ready.
One of us will become the next queen of Illéa. May the best girl win.

This Is How To Get The Most Out Of Roof Replacement
The past two weeks, we have looked at the preventative and curative functions of roofing services. Since your roof’s health is essential to your home’s functionality, you need to really understand these two functions. Today, we are looking at the rehabilitative aspect of a roof contractor’s work and how it can literally take your roof from dying to getting a fresh lease of life.
Rehabilitative roofing practices include roof replacement. This may be necessitated following a storm or other extreme weather condition if the damage is too extensive. The following post describes what you should consider before settling for a roof replacement:
Important Things to Know Before Replacing Your Home Roof
Even though you may not have ever really thought about it, the roof is undoubtedly one of the most important aspects of your house, keeping you safe and dry. Depending on the age of your home, the roofing materials used, and the weather conditions, your roof may need to be replaced at least once in your lifetime. Since it is fairly expensive, you need to get it right the first time to avoid recurring headaches due to a troublesome roof. The main considerations:
Getting the Right Roofer
Because new roof installation is not a very frequent affair, there are quite a few roofers who don’t worry about getting repeat business and tend to rip off customers. Read more at Beauty and The Mist…
Roof replacement in some cases may end up being cheaper than having troublesome and constant repairs in the long run. The best thing about it is that when done properly, you won’t have to worry about another replacement for the next 2-3 decades.
It is important to make the most of your roof replacement by ensuring that all parts of the roof are in good condition, as the following post describes:

'Netflix gives Patricia Highsmith's The Talented Mr. Ripley a noir spin, as the popular thriller about a charming yet deadly swindler gets a contemporary makeover. Starring Andrew Scott in the title role, the limited series follows the small-time con artist Tom Ripley as he is hired by a shipping mogul to retrieve his evasive son Dickie (Johnny Flynn) from an endless vacation in Italy. As Tom weasels his way deeper and deeper into Dickie's life, friends Marge (Dakota Fanning) and Freddie (Eliot Sumner) grow suspicious, especially after Dickie goes missing.
Exquisitely shot and acted, Ripley is a riveting tale that captures the timeless twists of the psychological thriller. Even fans who may have already seen the 1999 film starring Matt Damon will be able to appreciate the incredible writing of this new take, packed with witty dialogue that creates turning points for the story and characters. Here are a few lines that stood out in the series...
1 (25 VOTES) 'She's Saying That Because She's Jealous.'
Episode: “II SEVEN MERCIES”
This line is a textbook example of Tom working his dark magic on Dickie's psyche by planting seeds of doubt about his relationship with Marge. Marge makes it clear that she does not care for Tom; she also believes he has romantic feelings for Dickie. When Dickie tells Tom what Marge thinks, this is Tom's response.
Once again, Tom paints himself a victim, denying himself of any wrongdoing and the victim of a witch hunt in which he is just an innocent player. In truth, Tom might have feelings for Dickie, but they're less of a crush, and more of what a predator feels for his prey.
2 (14 VOTES) 'Yeah. That's Right. Dickie Greenleaf. It's Nice To Meet You Too.'
Episode: “I A HARD MAN TO FIND”
In a chilling moment of foreshadowing Tom can be seen practicing calling himself Dickie in the mirror of his hotel room in the final moments of the first episode. The cheerful smile reveals that the low-level swindler is about to graduate to much more serious crimes in the near future as he tries his new identity on for size. Though he hasn't worked out how or when quite yet, it is clear that Tom has something nefarious in store for Dickie, and that Herbert Greenleaf perhaps should've thought twice before sending this man to retrieve his son.
3 (13 VOTES) 'You're A Hard Man To Find.'
Episode: “I A HARD MAN TO FIND”
These six words end up destroying the worlds of so many people, while providing a viper his meal ticket. When Tom Ripley is contacted by private detective Alvin McCarron at a seedy dive bar, these are the words that set the wheels in motion that will eventually change Ripley's world. Herbert Greenleaf's efforts to bring his son back stateside allowed him to get desperate, and any man will do, even a man as hard to find as Tom Ripley. He should have taken the hint and given up the search.
4 (20 VOTES) 'You're Free Of Me Now, And I Of You.'
Episode: “I A HARD MAN TO FIND”
In a rather indignant letter to his Aunt Dottie, Tom Ripley writes on stationery from the Orient Express that his luck has now changed and he doesn't need her assistance anymore. He adds that he didn't cash her last pity check, not because he was deceased, but because it was unneeded.
The scene shows that Tom is in great need of an ego boost and had grown weary of being has his aunt's mercy. They apparently had grown resentful of each other over the years, so this was the perfect opportunity for Tom to burn that bridge. He's a bitter man at heart, who relishes in small slights when he has the opportunity to enjoy them.
5 (10 VOTES) 'Oh, I Hope He Did.'
Episode: “VIII NARCISSUS”
At a soiree in Venice, Tom chats with a group of pretty, young things about fugitive playboy Dickie Greenleaf, particularly his paintings. A young art dealer states that he would be interesting in representing the possible murderer, as his paintings would be in high demand considering his wanted status. He follows those comments with a distasteful remark about hoping Dickie is, in fact, guilty, as that would allow his artwork to fetch a higher price than if he is proven innocent. A woman they are with chuckles at the horrific remark.
6 (10 VOTES) 'His Rolex. His Clothes. His Ferragamos. What Else Have You Got, Tom? His Money? His Picasso?'
Episode: “V LUCIO”
The jig is up: Dickie's pal Freddie Miles has dropped by to visit his friend, only to find Tom Ripley wearing Dickie's shoes, watch, and clothes. Freddie already knows that Tom is a thief and a man of less scrupulous means after doing some digging about his life in New York. What he doesn't know is that exposing that knowledge to Tom places him in a perilous position, and that he only has a precious minutes left in his life.
7 (7 VOTES) '...Because He Loved Me.'
Episode: "VIII NARCISSUS"
This conversation marks the final nail in the coffin for the investigation into the disappearance of Dickie Greenleaf. PI Alvin McCarron is interrogating Tom Ripley and he seems so close to discovering that Dickie was murdered by Tom, accusing the con artist of murder right when they sit down. But Tom twists the narrative, taking the blame for Dickie's death, but not calling it a murder. Tom shares the story of how Dickie's life was a failure and a lie, how he never lived up to his potential and how he could never love Marge... because he was secretly in love with Tom. After Tom rejected his advances, Dickie took his own life and possibly Freddie's.
What's even more impressive about this quote is that McCarron is satisfied with Tom's answer and leaves, never getting the truth.
8 (7 VOTES) 'All I Offered You Is My Friendship And Respect And Asked For Nothing In Return.'
Episode: “III SOMMERSO”
Dickie has grown weary of Tom Ripley hanging around Atrani and running into him and Marge. After two months, he just wants to enjoy his never-ending Italian holiday without a third wheel. Dickie also reveals that he's been in contact with his father, who feels Tom took advantage of his good nature.
During this confrontation scene, which takes place out on a boat, Tom demonstrates once again how he deft he is at playing the victim, He contorts the situation so he is the hurt party, rather than the one guilty of inserting himself and his devious inventions where they don't belong. This line is a perfect example of how Tom portrays himself as a martyr, even when he's plotting new ways to steal Dickie's life.
9 (6 VOTES) 'Except He's Not Going To Be Alone. You'll Be There... Apparently.'
Episode: “IV LA DOLCE VITA”
Tom goes to break the news to Marge that Dickie has decided to move on to without her - he is not going to Cortina for the holidays like they planned, and he has not-so pleasant things to say about her. She isn't buying it, not for a minute. She knows her beloved Dickie well after spending months with him, and she knows that this is not in his nature. On the other hand, she doesn't trust Tom as far as she can throw him. So, when Tom says, "[Dickie] said he's feeling like he wants to be alone for a while," this is her response, revealing she's onto Tom and his antics.
10 (0 VOTES) 'Everything About Tom Is Perfectly Vague. Intentionally So, If You Ask Me. Or Haven't You Noticed?'
Episode: “IV LA DOLCE VITA”
Dickie might not think Tom is a bad guy, but Marge isn't fooled by his charms. Throughout the series, Marge is a perfect foil for the crafty Tom Ripley. She sees through his “innocent tourist” act to the more sinister nature beneath. She has a gut feeling about him and in her soul knows that he cannot be trusted. In a letter to the missing Dickie who has "fled to Rome," she expresses curiosity about his odd behavior and wonders why he trusts Tom. She explains why she doesn't trust the man, and why Dickie shouldn't either. Sadly, she does not realize she's writing to a corpse.
11 (0 VOTES) 'I'm Not Someone Who Takes Advantage Of People.'
Episode: “II SEVEN MERCIES”
In an effort to get close to Dickie, Tom is forced to show his hand somewhat. He confesses to Dickie that he was sent to Atrani by Dickie's father to bring him home, which serves as a way of earning Dickie's trust. By giving him a key piece of information, then following it up with this line, he encourages the shipping heir to see him as a loyal friend. Which he isn't. Not by a country mile.
12 (0 VOTES) 'You Hear What She Said? We're The Nicest Americans She Ever Met.'
Episode: “II SEVEN MERCIES”
While Dickie and Tom explore Atrani, the come across a disheveled woman in the middle of the road who claims she was mugged. Dickie graciously gives her enough money to "take her to Rome" and puts her in a cab that was conveniently waiting nearby. Tom informs the shipping heir that it was probably a scam, which Dickie at first denies, then brushes off, claiming he doesn't care as they needed the money.
The scene demonstrates how trusting Dickie can be and why he falls for Tom's nice-guy act so completely. He wants to see the good in everything and everyone, because he himself is lovely. This quality is what makes him so easy for Tom to eventually destroy.
13 (0 VOTES) 'I Want To Think You Wouldn't Have Done This If Your Italian Was Better, But I'm No So Sure...'
Episode: “II SEVEN MERCIES”
The cracks in Tom's facade begin to show when the con artist introduces Dickie to a shady character named Carlo, who has a "business proposition" regarding the transfer of money. Immediately Dickie is suspicious, placing the man as a mafia member. He also begins to see Tom in a whole new light as he notices that Carlo treated Tom as a "kindred spirit." He asks of Tom, "Is this the kind of thing you do in New York?"
14 (0 VOTES) 'It's Not Fair To You, Marge, Or To Me, That Dickie Isn't Having This Conversation With You.'
Episode: “VII MACABRE ENTERTAINMENT”
Tom sits in the bath having a conversation with a seemingly-alive Dickie, practicing what he will say to Marge. The scene switches to Dickie's point of view before it switchesback again, and the figure of Dickie is replaced by Marge as she listens to Tom's monologue.
This chilling scene shows the audience how Tom rehearses for every scenario - every possible conversation that he might have with every person - so he is never caught off guard. The man likes to be prepared.
15 (3 VOTES) 'I Have Come To No Conclusions. I Make No Accusations. I Only Say There Is One Dead Man And One Missing Man. And That You Are The Last Known To See Both.'
Episode: “VI SOME HEAVY INSTRUMENT”
This quote comes as Inspector Pietro Ravini is interrogating Dickie Greenleaf - or at least, the man who he believes is Dickie Greenleaf, but is actually Tom Ripley. It appears that Dickie was the last person to see his friend Freddie alive before he was murdered, and Dickie's friend Tom Ripley also appears to be missing.
Tom cannot provide a reliable alibi to the times and dates of the possible murders, or any evidence to the contrary, so he becomes Ravini's top suspect. This is the moment that Tom's clever plan starts to go sideways, as it seems stealing Dickie's identity might not be as easy as he first thought.'

Case Studies: The Importance Of A Chimney Inspection At The Time Of Roof Replacement
Challenge
Your home’s chimney set is at the highest point of your home, which makes it very vulnerable to damage. It is always a good idea to have your chimney inspected when you have your roof replaced. In this situation, when we were performing a routine inspection on this home we noticed rotting issues with the siding. It was also observed that the chimney chase contained no subsiding sheathing such as plywood or OSB. The framing members were also found to be improper for the height of the chimney. Read more at Roof It Forward…
Your entire roof will be in the best condition when it is given such a makeover, which also means it will serve you better. Ask your roofing contractor to check that all the parts of your roof are okay.
Roof replacement can literally get rid of all your headaches with roofing issues. However, because the work is so extensive, the cost can be quite high. That is why the woman in the following story was overwhelmed with gratitude when her roof was replaced at no cost:
Volunteer crew replaces leaky Sumner roof for free
As the afternoon sky spat snow Saturday, a crowd of more than 20 workers scampered across the top of Jamie Knoblauch’s Sumner house to do the years-overdue work of putting down a new roof.
Not one of them was paid to be there.
“It’s kind of like a Christmas miracle,” said Knoblauch, who had watched rainwater push mold and rot through her house’s ceilings and floorboards for months. “Like my own Christmas miracle.”
Knoblauch, a divorced mother of two young girls, watched the volunteer construction crew convene on her house this weekend starting in early Saturday’s bitter cold. With so many workers, they expect to have the roof done by Sunday evening. Read more at The News Tribune…
There are so many benefits packed into roof replacement, but you really don’t want to wait for the cold season to get it done. Make your plans early, and be sure to work with a professional roofer for the best results.
