Jean-Michel Basquiat’s (December 22, 1960 – August 12, 1988) Basquiat's rise in the art world of 1980s New York was meteoric, and he was at the height of his renown when he died in 1988 at the age of 27 from a heroin overdose. Basquiat was an enigmatic outsider among established galleries and artists in the city; having grown up in Brooklyn, he never attended art school and was a graffiti artist under the moniker SAMO in the years before his paintings garnered acclaim. Basquiat first achieved fame as part of the graffiti duo SAMO, alongside Al Diaz, writing enigmatic epigrams in the cultural hotbed of Manhattan's Lower East Side during the late 1970s, where rap, punk, and street art coalesced into early hip-hop music culture. By the early 1980s, his paintings were being exhibited in galleries and museums internationally. At 21, Basquiat became the youngest artist to ever take part in Documenta in Kassel, Germany. At 22, he was one of the youngest to exhibit at the Whitney Biennial in New York. The Whitney Museum of American Art held a retrospective of his artwork in 1992. While it took artists like Van Gogh to die to become famous, Basquiat reached an unprecedented level of fame at just 20 years old. The truly unique quality of his work, the themes he communicated and his romantic rags to riches story continues to attract intrigue from art world giants and art lovers across the world. my first love out of high school (over 45 years ago, before internet and digital technology) was photography, i especially loved portraiture and street photography but was always to introverted and solitary to do anything about it (my then-wife stuck all these photos into a shoebox labelled 'rusty nails and pothole', fair enough).

so now, using AI and other digital tools, i get to do portraiture of a sort, in a vintage style (as well as other fine art forms) i adore … with the added bonus of appealing to that part of me that loves the unusual, the slightly twisted, the downright freaky, fantastical, the odd and unusual. in other words, just me being me, pursuing the things i love and following my own little fascinations.

e9Art (aka eric) has been a typesetter, tire changer, the coffee dude, that pizza guy, and a full-time artist. eric didn't 'discover' art until he was in his 50s, partially due to the idea that he couldn't be an artist being colorblind, and partially that he was raised in an environment where art was considered a waste of time because 'art doesn't put food on the table.'

since his first art sale in 2014, he has been making up for lost time. e9Art has created and sold over 16,000 original works (mostly ACEOs) on eBay, plus hundreds of NFTs on platforms such as OpenSea and Foundation.

東京・渋谷を拠点に、音楽家・選曲家・サウンドデザイナー・マルチアーティストとして活躍する黒瀧節也のエキシビション「ALTER EGO」が原宿の「THE PLUG」で開催。

ALTER EGOを「別の自己 / 無二の親友」と意味付け、黒瀧の音楽と写真を様々な手法やコラボレーションで表現。

フィールドレコーディングした音をプログラミングして60秒のアンビエントドローン音楽を制作し、撮影した写真を組み合わせたアートヴァイナル作品や、「枯れない花」をテーマに、プログラムで花から抽出した色を混ぜ合わせたグラフィックと映像のNFT作品を展示。

その他にニック・ウォーカー（Nick Walker）、Kosuke Kawamura、MACCIU（マチュー）によるレコードジャケットデザインを題材に音源を制作したアートヴァイナル作品と、路上のマスクのゴミをストリートスナップし、コラージュしたポスター作品などを展示・販売。

売り上げの一部は環境美化推進のため、黒瀧の地元である渋谷区と日本赤十字社へ寄付する。

The exhibition “ALTER EGO” by Setsuya Kurotaki, a Tokyo-based musician, music selector, sound designer, and multidisciplinary artist, will be held at “THE PLUG” in Harajuku.

Defining “ALTER EGO” as “another self / inseparable best friend,” Kurotaki expresses his music and photography through various methods and collaborations.

The exhibition will feature art vinyl works, combining photographs taken by Kurotaki with 60-second ambient drone music created by programming field-recorded sounds. Additionally, there will be NFT works themed around “undying flowers,” featuring graphics and videos created by blending colors extracted from flowers using programming.

Other exhibits include art vinyl works for which Kurotaki produced soundtracks inspired by record jacket designs by Nick Walker, Kosuke Kawamura, and MACCIU, as well as poster works created by collaging street snaps of discarded masks found on the streets.

A portion of the proceeds will be donated to the beautification of the environment in Kurotaki’s hometown of Shibuya and the Japanese Red Cross Society.
