Also I just realised I definitely based one of my fictional towns on fucking Strangetown
#literally a desert town filled with ufo sightings and conspiracy theories and werewolves#and everyone there is gay#it’s literally half strangetown and half night vale#no but is it my fault that settings like that fuck severely? american southwest desert: fucks severely#aliens: fuck severely. werewolves: fuck severely. conspiracies: fuck severely#homosexuality? you won’t guess#this is just one of my fictional towns lol#i also have a heavily weird swampy evangelical town in northern mississippi; a very dark and dingy town somewhere in west yorkshire#that honestly takes inspiration from every yorkshire town i’ve lived in (but mostly my hometown)#a town just outside messina sicily which is OVERRUN by werewolves who run a b&b/restaurant/cantina there and have a monopoly on the tourist#trade in the town#and i also have a forgotten scandinavian island nation whose people still worship the old norse gods#sometimes you’ve just gotta be like. i don’t want to hear shit about how i was ‘inaccurate’ when i tried to write about london#so instead i’m going to make up my own setting and it can work exactly how i want it to#sometimes you have to make a town where no one would ever live and add idiots to it#personal

Everyone in Strangetown knew of the Night Beast. The massive hellhound had been terrorizing the city for years, but it wasn’t until recently that the sightings were becoming more frequent. Some believed it to be a silly myth conjured up by conspiracy theorists and gullible gossipers, but those who’d seen it knew that the spreading panic was more than justified.
The creature was described as having straw-colored hair, razor-sharp claws, a face as ugly as sin, and an unmatched fury. It was spotted in residential areas, jumping out at people who just wanted to collect the daily newspaper. It was spotted dashing around downtown, chasing the local unsavory charlatan. But mostly, it was spotted in Deadtree, right around the Nighthowl Saloon.

I think aliens in The Sims are particularly drawn to places such as Strangetown because of its warm climate. Like lizards, I imagine they are ectothermic.
As someone who lives in the desert, I can attest to the fact that it is VERY hot during the summer and freezing throughout autumn and winter. It’s cold at night even in summer.
So while they don’t literally have cold blood, they do require a certain amount of heat and time to cool off. It makes sense why they would find the desert appealing.
If you can’t tell, the majority of my alien hcs are based on the ‘lizard people’ conspiracy theory mixed with the whole bee/ant thing already in the game.
#scott shut the fuck up#fierce hcs#also aliens wearing Hawaiian shirts seems to be a theme#It's safe to assume they enjoy tropical climates too

Premades with podcasts:
The Curio Bros., the Curious brothers' podcast where they smoke weed and talk conspiracy theories.
General Grunt Freedom News, an extremely boomer podcast where he breathes too close to the mic and rants about aliens. Has a handful of dedicated followers, all of whom listen ironically.
The Strangetown Horror Podcast, where Johnny, Ripp and Ophelia read bad horror.
Lovin' Lothario, where Don gives terrible dating advice. Vidcund is a dedicated listener.

On this hot autumn afternoon in Strangerville, Erwin's clunky old van sputters to a halt amid a gathering of political protesters, interrupting his routine commute to the conspiracy theorist meeting.
Erwin: Ugh, campaigners. Whose side today? Let's get a better look at these signs.
Erwin quickly scans the signs, avoiding direct eye contact until he can assess whether or not he agrees with their messages. The slogans on display vary:
"A vote for Smith is a vote for invasion"
"Aliens will bring the end"
"Vote Salas"
"Jill Smith is an abduction apologist"
A sinking feeling settles in the pit of Erwin's stomach as he enters the Strangerville Information Center. He hadn't even considered who he's going to vote for, not that votes actually get counted, he muses.
Erwin: Mabel, you've mentioned you have some interesting intel to bring to the table? I trust it's a little more substantial than last week, yes?
Mabel: Sure do. I know you like alien-related topics, so I'm here to deliver. Kayla: Aww but today was supposed to be cryptid corner! We were supposed to discuss the existence of the Thylacine.
Erwin: There's nothing left to discuss on that topic, Kayla, so of course the topic of aliens will be taking precedence. Nadia: Plus, it's topical, with all those protesters outside. Erwin: Exactly. So Mabel... what did you find?
Mabel: I don't know, exactly...? Erwin: [Sigh] Great start. Mabel: Well I was conducting routine scans on Strangerville's electromagnetic field— Nadia: As one does...
Mabel: As one does! And I noticed some irregular frequencies concentrated in the Shady Acres area. These frequencies are consistent with the same ones that were reported by an anonymous scientist from Strangetown about twenty years ago. I've monitored for weeks now, and they've been consistent. We know aliens breed with humans and their spawn walk among us, but if their technology is stationed on earth, this would suggest...
Erwin: That full-bloods are living among us...

As expected, Buzz had a really hard time comprehending the situation. Tank tried to be as calm and casual about it as possible, but needed to share his worry about the Beakers with someone and mentioned Circe's surprise gift.
Always being high on conspiracy theories and general paranoia around science, Buzz reacted... like a Buzz would. He started shouting about the mad scientists making invasive experiments on the locals and Tank had to calm him down by reminding him this is his future grandchild he's talking about.
Meanwhile, Titania was absolutely overjoyed with the news. She completely believed it must've been the fairy influence and even started considering moving to Strangetown herself for the good aura.

Smith-Grunt
August Smith-Grunt (29) - Jackson Park by @puppycheesecake (59) - Lyla Smith-Grunt (57)
Not the most traditional of families. These three live on the heights of Strangerville and mostly keep to themselves. Well, Lyla interacts with all the tourists, but otherwise they just mainly hang at home.
Jackson Park
Jackson... doesn't really know hos he ended up here. He guess he was out exploring the world, painting and just going where his heart told him to go - and suddenly he found himself in a tiny town full of weird people (and the conspiracy theorists were hardly the weirdest).
Anyway, he had liked the place. And Lyla had been such a funny person to get to know! Sort of, before he knew it, he found himself living with her (still painting) and falling for her. Sure, she was just as weird as anyone else in this town - but he loved that about her.
He has tried to be a good dad for his son, but he knows he might not always have been the best of dads. Dads are supposed to teach their sons certain things, right? Jackson has just mainly taught August to paint, go on long walks, get lost and hitch-hike back. Perhaps not the most useful of skills for a now almost 30-year old man?
Lyla Smith-Grunt
Lyla loves all the weird theories about her town. She even host these events were tourists can go and (almost) visit the old lab. Sometimes she even guides them close to Strangetown (but she never lets anyone go there. It's too dangerous).
Otherwise, Lyla mostly sticks to her home and her family. Her husband is telling her to try something creative; like flower arrangements. Lyla isn't too convinced...
August Smith-Grunt
Sometimes August realizes that eh might not have had the most common of upbringings. His dad paints the landscape around him, and his mother guides introverts who want to meet aliens (not knowing that she has alien ancestors).
August isn't too bothered. He just wish he knew what he wanted to do with life. He, as in opposite to his cousin, doesn't necessarily want to leave Strangerville. He just wishes those freaky plants would disappear.

15 for the Sims questions :3
15. The weirdest glitch I've ever encounter?
Oh boi... My games have a tendency to constantly break on themselves. I'll select a few of my personal favourites, cause over the years I have encountered far too many to keep track of!
For the Sims 2 it's definitely this weird glitch that both my Veronaville AND my Strangetown were thrown back in time at some point. With my Veronaville I could at least make some sense of it due to having One Drive at that time. But Strangerown... I've been playing that game on my computer specifically for Sims 2 for ages. It has no One Drive. And this was literally my back up file lol!
I am thankful for some of the gems it gave me though. As much as I'm pissed that I have to make Mambo Loa adopt a child all over again, except now she's even older and her roommate Oscar is probs gonna become the child's foster parent after her passing... Or the fact that I have to make Tristan, Optimum Alfred and Giuseppi's ENTIRE FAMILY WITH MEMORIES all over again. Plus the fact that the whole GBA/DS side of the hood got wiped but the decor is still there (and the Sims that still do exist, still have the memories to match the passing of time). OR MY DAMN STRANGETOWN CEMETERY/CHURCH... It did create a good story arc for my Strangetown which amplifies my main one about government and alien conspiracy theories plus mind wiping.
Also... Whatever the fuck happened to Loki and Circe for a brief moment. I thought their face data literally got wiped cause when I made them look in the mirror they both ended up with the corrupted faces. Yet when I exited their home and came back they were fine?? What were those two on about lol!
Also... Squishy... We cannot forget the absolute icon that is Squishy. Thank you time machine Veronaville for giving him to me lol!
For Sims 3 it is this weird glitch where as you play a town for a while people, especially children will eventually go missing. They'll still show up in the family trees, but their portraits take a while to load. But they're nowhere to be found and do not even show up in the relationship panels anymore. It's like they just disappeared one day and there's no way to get them back. Super freaky if you ask me!
For Sims 4, I constantly walk against game breaking glitch after game breaking glitch... The funniest one to me however was how Dominic and Duncan's baby kept showing up on the other side of town whenever they came back from work and she came back from daycare. These two dudes, as the exhausted parents they are, actually had to walk (cause God forbid we have cars) with close to no energy every damn time to pick their kid with neglected needs (cause daycare didn't even bother to look after her lol) up!
Another one that made me crack up was how I randomly got a pop up one day that Circe's high school graduation was happening despite the fact that this woman already had both her high school AND university degree in her fucking inventory lol! I just had to go there and see what would happen... Loved seeing her go on stage with all these teens.
Lastly I had this weird glitch that despite having my aging system follow that of the Sims 2, when I went to other households after a while of playing the Newlows and the Beakers, they just... All aged up... At once. Even those I had played for a while previously and were fine back then. This resulted in every damn elder dying at the same time and every damn Sim aging up and being depressed about a missed birthday. And since Jenny was apparently pregnant at this time she became a pregnant elder? What? I didn't even know that was possible lol! At least Patrizo and Isabella got to die together! Sims 4 is a very stable game I swear to God.
