The Halloween weekend starts with an amazing brew from @southernpinesbrewing called Drunken Vigils! Love the skeleton theme so I added my own skeleton! Theme aside, Drunken Vigils is one Stoutstanding nectar! The nose is all chocolate and the taste is a combination of chocolate, coffee, and bourbon notes, with the swallow all about the bourbon barrel. A nice thick mouthfeel really seals the deal! Tough to find a better breakfast stout in a can! I look forward to its annual release - glad that @southernpinesbrewing is local! Love the can label art! My first introduction to Apple Brandy Barrel Stouts was the Stoutstanding @prairieales Apple Brandy Barrel Noir! While waiting for the next vintage of ABB Noir from @prairieales, I seek out other Stouts that are aged in Apple Brandy Barrels….is there any other than @lairdsapplejack? When @incendiarybrew came out with Untethered Angel earlier this year, Mrs. Stoutwhisperer and I made the trip to Winston-Salem NC to visit the good people at @incendiarybrew! Fast forward to today and when I opened this bottle, I was in the middle of an apple orchard! The apple 🍎 notes were over the top and the taste is right up there with ABB Noir! High praise indeed! When I saw @bellsbrewery released a new vintage of Bourbon Barrel Aged Expedition Stout, I headed over to my nearest bottle shop (thanks @bottlemixx) and picked up a few bottles….one for today and a couple for somewhere down the road! Still have a ‘17 vintage hibernating so I’ll put these ‘21s right next to it! As expected, another sublime release - the bourbon barrel notes complement, not overpower, the wonderful base Expedition. Super Bowl Sunday! Went into the Stout Cellar to find an appropriate nectar and all of the @bottlelogicbrewing Fundamental Observations woke up…..even the 1.5 liter bottle! I’m convinced that vanilla and bourbon are meant to be together - just like peanut butter and jelly - only more enjoyable! FO is a Stoutstanding beverage and belongs in the team picture for one of the best Bourbon barrel aged vanilla Stouts of all time! Today’s Stout is the 2018 vintage of @13stripesbrewery Olde Soul! A wonderful barrel aged Stout aged with cinnamon, cayenne and ancho peppers! Love the sweet and the heat! Time has been kind to this vintage - if you like the heat! I love spicy things so I’m a fan….sweetness from the cinnamon is quickly replaced by the heat from the peppers. Aside from the Stoutstanding nectar, the @oldesoul label is one of the best beer labels I’ve seen! Not widely distributed beyond the @13stripesbrewery Taylors, SC brewery, this dark nectar is a tasty one and deserves some national attention! Looking forward to enjoying the 2021 vintage! I last enjoyed @boulevard_beer Dark Truth back in January 2016 and said I would be back…..almost 6 years later, here I am and it was simply too long! I’m enjoying every drop of Magic Drip! Described as a barrel aged wheated Imperial Stout with Colombian Coffee, it’s an oily, chewy thick tasty treat. I was fortunate enough to grab this year’s set of @kanebrewing a night to end all dawns (aka ANTEAD)….thanks to @woodgrove_brewing for the assist! Opened up the Affogato bottle, which is the bourbon barrel aged version with dark roasted @rookcoffee and Madagascar and Mexican Vanilla Beans! Not much on the nose, but the vanilla and coffee were present and accounted for at the taste and swallow! Really enjoyed this one and am looking forward to the others! Today I’m reaching deep into the Stout Cellar and pulling out a @westbrookbrewingco 2019 Triple Chocolate and Vanilla Swirl Mexican Cake! A lot of wax going on here so it must be an important release! I get the traditional heat and sweet of Mexican Cake and the swallow adds some sweet notes of chocolate and vanilla. Really balances out this nectar! This is Stoutstanding and frankly I’m not surprised. The @westbrookbrewingco brew team are always finding innovative ways to highlight their Stout program!
