Sweeter Than Revenge // Toto Wolff
Toto Wolff x Verstappen!Reader
Tumblr media
Toto Wolff was a perfectionist. He demanded nothing but the best. He refused to settle for second or third. He knew what he wanted and he knew how to get what he wanted.
That’s where you come in. Some would call you a jack of all trades. Despite your relatively young age, you had graduated at the top of your Oxford class with a Doctorate in Engineering Science — specializing in automotive and mechanical engineering — and a Masters in Strategy and Innovation. Your thesis on exploiting friction and wind resistance instead of battling against it caught the eye of numerous car manufacturers, all wanting to snatch up the mind behind the innovate approach that could revolutionize the industry.
But when Formula 1 teams joined the fray for your employment, your mind was made up the second you saw the email from the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team principal himself. The exorbitant salary, company car, and executive position Toto was offering you were benefits but they paled in comparison to the opportunity to do the one thing you had been waiting for since you permanently left home at 18 years old — prove the people that you had once called family wrong.
Growing up as the eldest child of Jos Verstappen and half-sister to Max Verstappen was anything but sunshine and rainbows. Constantly in the shadow of your younger brother. Always ignored in favor of your father’s golden son. Never receiving approval or the affection you desired after the loss of your mother. Always an afterthought to racing.
When you moved to an entirely different country, merely a teenager yourself, the only communication you received from your family was a text message from Jos reminding you “not to embarrass the family name” a few months after you started university. So you powered forward, completely alone in a foreign country and forced to work two jobs on top of school, but finding solace in your studies.
Now, as you hit send on your response to Toto Wolff, all of your struggles were going to pay off.
Not long after, you were invited to formally meet the team and sign all the necessary paperwork in the beginning of the offseason. You made the drive to Brackley and smoothed your power suit before entering the team’s technology center. A composed receptionist took your name before guiding you down the halls lined with moments and memorabilia from team history and leaving you in front of a door with a steel “Toto Wolff” nameplate on it.
You took a moment to collect yourself and rapped your knuckles against the solid wooden door, turning the handle when a deep accented voice from within the office told you to enter. The Austrian, who painted an imposing picture behind his desk, rose to greet you with a firm handshake. You quickly realized that he was tall and fit and, despite how hard you tried to keep your mind professional, extremely handsome.
“Dr. Verstappen, it’s great to finally meet you,” Toto motioned for you to sit down across the desk from him.
“The pleasure is all mine, Mr. Wolff. I am so grateful for this opportunity.”
“The pleasure is ours. We are very excited to have you onboard this coming season. And, please, call me Toto.”
“Then you must call me Y/N. And while we’re on the topic of names, I’m sure you’ve noticed mine.”
Toto leaned back in his leather chair, “a funny coincidence to be sure. I hope that doesn’t mean you cheer for Red Bull.”
You hid a wince at his joking tone, “about that … it’s not exactly a coincidence. Max Verstappen is my brother. Half-brother if you want to get technical.”
You continue as you see him about to speak, “let me assure you that this will have no negative impact on my work with you. If anything, it will make me work harder towards the team’s success. I don’t exactly go around making this public knowledge, but my childhood was not the best and I haven’t spoken to my brother or my father since I first moved out at 18. They never supported me or showed that they cared about me. I’m doing this for myself. I’m going to help Mercedes win to prove them wrong.”
Your heart pounded out of your chest as Toto impassively stared into your soul. “I believe you.” A breath you didn’t even realize you were holding rushed out in relief. “I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Jos Verstappen and what you’ve told me does not exactly come as a surprise.”
“Thank you, Toto. I promise you won’t regret it. We’ll get Mercedes back on top.”
“I am counting on it. Welcome to the team.”
You spent the rest of the off-season working more often than not, applying the research your Doctorate was built on to the car and optimizing it as much as possible. You spent your days working closely with the engineering team and both Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, gathering as much data as possible before you flew out to pre-season testing. Your evenings were usually taken up by Toto, the both of you workaholics who stayed far past the time that everyone else had left, typically discussing strategy and your mutual loathing of Red Bull over dinner that was ordered into the office.
The attraction that you felt upon first meeting your boss grew more and more as you got to know him better. While his handsomeness certainly didn’t hurt, his intelligence and passion truly did it for you. His age didn’t bother you — boys your age certainly left something to be desired — but you refused to be known as the woman who slept her way to the top (despite how unfair and inaccurate that would be) in a heavily male dominated field. So you used all your willpower to stay professional and prayed that Toto didn’t notice when you would gaze at his lips or his forearms or his chest in that famous button up shirt for a bit longer than strictly appropriate.
There was no way that Toto Wolff could possibly reciprocate your feelings so your resolved to keep them tightly bottled up.
He had a different idea.
You were in Toto’s office to mark your last dinner before flying to Bahrain for pre-season testing, lightly talking over a bottle of wine, when he abruptly set down his glass and looked resolutely down at you. “Tell me if I’ve misread the situation,” he pushed your plates to the side, uncaring, as he reached out to pull you across the desk and towards him.
You seized up in shock but melted as he crashed his lips to yours.
You gathered what little common sense you had remaining to detach yourself from him, “Toto, we can’t.”
His eyes went guarded, “Do you not feel the same way?”
“No but-“
“Then why?”
“Because you’re my boss! Because even the thought of this is unprofessional! Because it can ruin both of us!”
“But you want this.” He said it as a statement.
“Of course I do,” you deflate. “But we can’t-“
“And I want this too. I want you. You are strikingly intelligent and incredibly beautiful. We are both consenting adults and the team does not have a fraternization policy. There is no reason we must suffer in restraint.”
He takes both of your hands, engulfing then with his large ones before continuing, “you have been taking care of yourself for so long. Now, let me take care of you.”
You were extremely thankful the next morning that you accepted Toto’s offer to join him on his private jet instead of flying commercial charter with the rest of the team. At least this way he had time to drop you off at your apartment so you could pick up your luggage on the way to the airport without having to rush.
The other perks were pretty nice too. If you had told your younger self that you would be joining the Mile High Club with Toto Wolff on a private jet heading to Bahrain for the start of the Formula 1 season, you would have laughed in your own face (and then tried to work out the physics of how you time traveled to see your younger self in the first place).
Once in Bahrain, you jumped into the beautiful chaos that is the F1 season head first. Mercedes started off on a much higher note than last year and the mood around the garage remained light as the team kept the momentum going. It quickly became common to see 1-2 Mercedes finishes or at the very least both Mercedes drivers on the podium as the optimized car and your unorthodox strategies gave them the extra edge.
You and Toto tried to steal as many moments together as you could away from the hurricane of work that sometimes swallowed you up. Soon, neither of you particularly trying to keep your progressing relationship a secret, the rest of the team became aware that you were together. Despite your initial fears of backlash, you were met with support and the worst you got from the team was gentle teasing about managing to tame the infamous Toto Wolff.
As the season unfurled, neither your father nor brother had noticed you working for their rival. While photos of you with Toto, your drivers, and generally around the team did circulate, neither of them made the connection between the woman in Mercedes gear and the daughter and sister they cut off years ago. You ignored the traitorous pang in your heart every time Max or Jos’ eyes glossed over you, not realizing who they were looking at.
Or at least they didn’t until the FIA Prize Giving ceremony.
Toto was attending to receive the Constructors’ Championship trophy while your drivers collected their respective Drivers’ Championship and second-place trophies and you had come along as his date. While making the rounds on Toto’s arm at the gala after the ceremony, Max happened to overhear Toto introducing you to an acquaintance and your brother’s head snapped up at the sound of your name.
Max stared at the woman with Toto. It couldn’t be … but she had the same face shape and nose shape and hair color he remembered. His feet moved towards you before he could help himself, “Y/N?”
You heard the familiar voice interject from behind you and steeled yourself before turning around, “Max.”
“Is it really you?”
“Last time I checked.”
Toto had managed to excuse himself from his conversation and joined the awkward reunion between the estranged Verstappen siblings.
“Verstappen,” he nodded a curt greeting.
Your brother paused, looking between you and Toto, “wait-wait. You and him? You’re together?”
“For a while now,” you gained some satisfaction from the mix of emotions, none of them pleasant, that crossed Max’s face. “I’m surprised you didn’t notice earlier. I mean, Toto and I did only meet because I work for Mercedes. I’ve been around the paddock every race.”
You didn’t notice the approach of your father until you looked at Max’s wide eyes frozen on someone behind you.
“How dare you! To go against your own family? To actively work against your brother?”
“Hello, father. How are you? I’ve been great! It’s only been a little under a decade since I’ve heard from you.”
“Why you little who-”
Toto stepped in front of you before your father could finish what was sure to be a very complementary sentence, “Verstappen, I would stop it right there if I was you.”
“I always knew Y/N was an embarrassment but even I didn’t expect for her to become a gold digger going after men her father’s age.”
Toto came to your rescue once again, “she’s far from a gold digger. Y/N is Mercedes’ Executive Engineer and Strategist. She’s a large reason why we beat your son all season long.”
“What she is,” Jos spit out, “is a shame to the Verstappen name.”
Toto resolutely held you close, “then it’s a good thing she won’t be a Verstappen for much longer.”
Taking the opportunity, you raised your entwined hands to show off the diamond ring that graced your ring finger since Toto took you on vacation to the Seychelles and surprised you with a beautiful proposal a week ago.
“Max, Jos … we’ll be sure not to invite you to the wedding.”

I Blade - Choose
Tumblr media
Sandal-clogs dashed inside a corridor hidden-away from an Eastern Estate, sweat secreting from a wrinkled forehead, fear written in the visage of a monger, a wielder who manufactured beings-as-weapons, shaped them with causes, purposes, a believed-martyr for those abandoned to darkness.
Blood-pressure accelerating, chest-heaved, padded-black boots now stained red, drew inward... Shriveling plead came, "...Now Rozan; Hoku... We can talk about this. You're unaware the ramifications you'll spill, how deep our cause goes. We're good-guys, our obligation is to carry out-the-will for those incapable to wield." The ploy was to sow further manipulation. Byproduct of damages were written in an almost soulless set of eyes. Seeker vocalized, "I'm not directionless. I'll fight for peace for The Far-East until victory-roars throughout Ruby City-State." Another step came, "But I'm of choice where I'm wielded. You attempted to extinguish that little-bit of light peeking through the crevices; it revealing chain's of deceit were on my hilt." Truth-peered intensely from those glowing-orbs. Star's collapsing on their victims, before certain annihilation. Don of Black Miracle's back-peddled, thoughts of scheme forming in desperation. Word's surely could disarm his renegade-weapon until reaching his trap-room. "I tried to rescue you by sending Hydo after the girl. She'll rust steel; relation's serve corrosive. Haven't I been the perfect-handler for you? What's-she possibly able to offer, I'm unable?!" Expressively trying to instill reason. The Assassin paused, grasping blade-hilt, almost at range. He contemplated from aroma of the contract-flower in-between his coat; sworn to protect, memory's rebooting of tongue tasting that divine liquid of tea that carried weary-travelers heaven, revitalizing senses, subtle movements the Shaman offered in mending. "Soft-Hands. Brightness... Importantly, discovery of my peace." Words conveyed like poetry. Sensations should've been exterminated, tempered from wrathful flames, torture inflicted to soul-crushed discipline. Angered-teeth grated his Manufacturer shouted furiously "Soft-Hands?! Kidding me?! ...That's all!? We could've thrown koban towards any Red-Light District shameless harlot for that. They'd provided all-that aforementioned, gobbling ravenously!" Taking a larger-gap step with a dark motive. Black-maned Lion cornering this bossing rodent squealing, unknowingly didn't desire fleeting reprieve. He slew in that manner. He yearned, more... Wait, when did his identity reveal? A luster-string internally showing a path. ...To Existence of a Heart. Sudden-shifts came as Don Honzo took a leap behind into a room where a detected motion-sensor sealed-up gate of wards offered salvation. The trap-room revealed itself, an insurmountable set of paper scrolls for an inferno spell revealed, all primed upon Hoku's approach soon inevitable detonation. Gloating with maniacal cackling, "Be incinerated you traitorous-tool! Know her weakness; caused your death!" Hand's on hip, proudly. The cowardice-demeanor was just a front of mastered shadow-orchestration. With peerless-composure, Rozan the Star withdrew sword, in instant a magnificent-strike slash of skilled. The preach of weakness foiled wrong, in that desperation moment, he grew stronger... considering that flower needed preservation; life greater than thought. Momentarily becoming weightless... His Don's expression engraved to dumbfounded. Almost worth-tearing to admirable beauty, genuine-fear creeping... The trap scrolls fused-sparks were left blown out like a series of candles, the protective barrier between them; sliced apart. Right as Hoku exhaled, utilizing that perfect technique; his back was unexpectedly smashed from a swinging-secondary trap of a wrecking-ball. He disarmed to instant, hand's in his fall reached out, cradling something from confines; to shield something fragile, collapsing directly in a heap before his Maker. The Don viciously kicked and stomped, "I TOLD YOU, Rust! Reason I'm in-charge, you disobedient, Trash! Ingrate! Vermin!" Kicking continuously, dirt piling amongst garb to slaved-belonging, rib's were being heard rattling cracks, air and spit chucking out of lungs. The twist unseen... seems he needed a miracle.

The Doctor | Part 1 | The Mandalorian
> Part 2
summary: When the Child falls ill, the Mandalorian seeks a familiar doctor.
pairing: eventual Din Djarin x OC afab!reader (no physical descriptions; reader has relatives, a surname, and backstory/personality)
word count: +1.3k
a/n: I actually pulled myself out of a seven-year fic hiatus to do this. My writing is rusty™, so please be kind! And title suggestions would be stellar. 🥴 That one detail aside, I have a lot of backstory in mind, honestly to the point that "reader" is really just an OC who I'm writing in second-person. Debating third tbh. I'd love for any feedback (esp on Mando) and I hope to have a writing masterlist & another installment up in the near future! eta: thanks to local-fanfic-addict for the name suggestion!
warnings: rated T, minor descriptions of illness, referenced character death
-
A petulant cough from Din Djarin’s side cuts through the hiss of the gangplank rising behind him, a smoked visor tilting downward to regard the small lump in his knapsack. It hides the grimace upon his lips, the crease in his brow, at how miserable the Child seemed.
“Hang in there, kid. Not much longer,” Din murmurs, more to himself than the feverish body at his side – to steel his normally calm nerves – orange-tipped gloves passing in comforting strokes across roughened duraweave.
When he accepted a job on the last planet, the Child seemed fine, with a sniffle that could have been written off to the perpetual cold both aboard the Razor Crest and the planet they were on. Nearing the mission’s end, however, the Child was sweltering and had a deep, wet cough that obviously racked his tiny body.
First, panic.
Din hadn’t the slightest idea as to how to care for a sick child. He hardly cared for himself properly and was only getting a feel for this bizarre parenthood. Of course, he was unprepared – utterly helpless to soothe the Child’s fitful crying. Din couldn’t help but shout while digging through the storage compartments at the paltry medical supplies upon the ‘Crest, which included a few tiny bacta pads and untouched nausea medicine (which, if he were honest with himself, had probably been aboard since the ship was manufactured).
Then, a realization.
Upon a moon several hours away by hyperspace was an old acquaintance. One who had saved his hide many years before, who would be safe for the Mandalorian and his foundling.
With much haste, Din concluded the mission – handed over a quarry (whose horror was suspended in carbonite), accepted payment, and quickly departed the frigid planet. Where he touched down was quite its contrary; verdant and temperate, known most predominantly for its abundant botanicals and as a picturesque, if underdeveloped, retreat. Warm air rushes beneath Din’s helmet as he treks through the streets of the quaint port town.
It had changed since his last visit, years ago, but remained relative enough that his memory could guide his measured footfall. He didn’t allow himself a chance to reminisce, carrying onward through the central marketplace to the edge of town, where sat a modest building labelled simply in Aurebesh:
doctor  apothecary open
Beneath the sign, the door is set open, voices carrying faintly from within. Two feminine and the grate of a masculine-programmed droid.
-
Days on Chaira were slow – simple. (Save for the occasional excitement from its residents, most often the arboriculture and logging industry nestled in the nearby mountains.) Once living there full-time, you’d quickly learnt why your father decided to settle down on this moon, of all in the galaxy.
Following the morning’s appointments, you slipped into the minutiae of managing the small clinic, bottling or compounding common medicines, writing up orders for a future supply run, and preparing files for appointments in the coming days. All the while, your resident 2-1B unit went about sanitizing surfaces and tools and tidying up.
Settling in for a late lunch at the front desk (just to be safe), you called your mother via holopad, through which you updated one another daily. You detailed your morning thus far and – for the systematic difference – your mother her entire day.
“Is 2-1B around?” Your mother’s query causes your eyes to flit upward in time to see the droid round the corner. Just how she always managed to ask of him right as he entered each time was beyond you.
“Yeah, right here,” you hum around a mouthful of peppery herb salad, pushing the puck transmitter closer to his side of the desk so he can wave an appendage to your mother. Meanwhile, you shovel another forkful of salad into your mouth.
“Salutations, Sola. I hope you are well. Isn’t it,” 2-1B pauses thoughtfully. “A bit late on Yavin 4?”
“Oh, please, 2-1B,” grouses your mother, and you can see the smile in her projection. “I’ll go to bed soon; I just had to check in with you two.”
Your eyes wander while they chit-chat, gazing out the door for several moments before you notice the head of a shadow pause just within view. You crane your neck and lean forward on your elbows to get a better idea of who (or what) is lingering outside, which 2-1B catches on to and turns as well.
“Mom, I think we might have a walk-in,” you share quietly, pushing your bowl off to one side.
“Alright, my loves. Talk to you tomorrow.”
“Love you, mom; talk to you tomorrow,” you reply gently, and 2-1B pipes up in a farewell of his own. Just before the gracious image of your mother’s expression blinks away, the stranger finally crosses over the threshold (a wall of metal – beskar), commanding your attention, and your jaw falls momentarily slack.
Mandalorian.
But not in the mottled hues of flaking paint and common metal you so distantly recall. Instead, the portion of armor you can see from the drape of his cape is brilliant silver.
As you slowly rise to a stand behind the desk, you stuff down your awe, a spume of trepidation releasing in your chest.
(You can’t help wondering if this is the same one–)
“Pardon the interruption, but I need to see Doctor Vancil. Urgently.”
“I–” It takes everything in you not to crinkle your nose and press your lips thin at the assertion, at the underlying desperation that still finds its way through his vocoder. This wasn’t a spiel you’d had to deliver in some time. Allowing your eyes to close, you draw a deep breath before regarding the collected but imposing figure in your lobby.
“My father, Doctor Vancil, is one with the Force,” you answer, noting how the shiny helmet rears back slightly. “In his stead, my– his droid and I have been continuing his practice. 2-1B can check you out, and I’ll see to it that you get any medications you may need.”
You swear you catch the quietest, clipped end of a curse from the man before you, whose helmet slowly turns toward 2-1B. A slight, terrible cough followed by a coo emanates from somewhere at his hip level, causing your eyes to widen.
A child?
In a bag?
“I’ll accept your help – but no droids.”
Along with his dry declaration, the Mandalorian idly gestures two orange-tipped fingers toward your companion, and you nearly feel offended on his behalf. Yet the temperate droid, having gleaned much of his personality from your father, with whom he had been partnered almost all of his existence, understood your capability and responded with a “very well then” before toddling down the hallway at his back.
“Very well,” you parrot with an inkling of uncertainty. You collect your datapad as you round the desk to the same side as the Mandalorian stands, a small sweep of your arm beckoning him to join you, “We’re going into an exam room two doors down on the left. No droid.”
A modulated hum is nearly drowned out by the heavy trod of the Mandalorian’s boots as you shut the door gently behind the two of you and go to wash your hands at the small counter basin. He occupies the space almost uncomfortably, T visor sweeping its primitive decor of jars of cotton buds and tongue depressors, and a hanging plant with cascading purple leaves.
“So, what brings you in?” You glance over your shoulder and draw from your usual repertoire of starters, unsure how to address the child noise at his hip – which was now a soft babble.
“My foundling,” he clarifies, brushing aside the weathered cape to reveal a knapsack at his hip. From within it, he produces a wrinkly, green-skinned creature with large eyes and ears unlike anything you’d ever laid eyes on. “He started getting sick two days ago, and I’m not sure what to do.”
You nod slowly, contemplatively, trying to school your expression into professional impassivity. Although not a species you’d helped yet, it was a baby. (Probably.)
“Okay, I should absolutely be able to help. I just have a few questions to begin.”

Mark Sumner at Daily Kos:
Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance attacked a different kind of “cat lady” on Monday, falsely claiming in a social media post that immigrants were eating pets in a small Ohio city. “Months ago, I raised the issue of Haitian illegal immigrants draining social services and generally causing chaos all over Springfield, Ohio,” Vance wrote on X. “Reports now show that people have had their pets abducted and eaten by people who shouldn't be in this country. Where is our border czar? All of this is a lie. No pets are being eaten. The town is not in chaos. And the Haitian immigrants in Springfield are in the country legally. What’s disgusting is the behavior of Vance and others pushing this xenophobic horror story.
Vance’s post came after a post in a Springfield Facebook group went viral across social media. Despite assurances from the Springfield police department that there were no unusual reports of pets going missing, much less being eaten, the claim was amplified on X by Elon Musk, who stated, "Apparently, people's pet cats are being eaten." This follows a previous incident in which a Springfield resident claimed, without evidence, that Haitians were decapitating and eating ducks in a city park. That story was picked up and widely repeated by right-wing news outlets.
Vance has repeatedly pointed at Springfield as an example of a town being overrun by immigrants. He even features the town on his campaign site in which he claims “this immigration problem” is draining the town’s social services.
However, in August, NPR visited Springfield to investigate the claims being made by Vance and other Republicans. What they found was that there were legitimate concerns in the city about housing. That’s because Springfield grew from a population of around 60,000 to 75,000-80,000 over the last four years, after the availability of jobs—many of them at a local steel manufacturing plant—drew immigrants to the city. In addition, Springfield was facing a burden due to translation, with both the local hospital and police saying that service had been slowed down by the lack of translators.  Additionally, the City of Springfield confirms that the Haitian immigrants are in the town legally. Because of the ongoing conflict in Haiti, immigrants qualify for Temporary Protected Status.
While not everyone in Springfield is thrilled with the influx of immigrants, the city’s issues appear primarily related to the town’s rapid growth. The owner of the local steel plant insists that he was having trouble filling the jobs in Springfield and is grateful to the immigrants for moving to the area, according to NPR. There is no evidence of chaos—or pet-eating.
[...] The false stories of pets being eaten, of animals being killed in parks, and of general chaos in the streets of Springfield all serve a purpose. They allow Vance, Trump, and other Republicans to dehumanize immigrants. To “other” them. To present them as violent, primitive, and threatening.
Senator and Trump VP Pick JD Vance (R-OH) amplified racist and xenophobic lies about Haitian migrants in Springfield, Ohio, such as making false assertions about how they are eating and abducting pets.

It had been a few years since you started working at the scrapyard, it wasn’t a luxurious job but it was one that not only paid the bills but gave you some extra in your pockets. Angel had hooked you up with the job when he saw you were struggling. Home wasn’t exactly a home, your parents weren’t alive anymore, hadn’t been since you were younger. It left you to live with your grandmother who hadn’t just taken you in but also your aunt and cousins. It was an overcrowded and overwhelming house and it sat 5 doors down from the Reyes house. It wasn’t instant but somewhere down the line as the years passed you became close with the eldest Reyes brother just doors down from you and now, as adults, he was your best friend.
Angel originally had gotten you a job as barback at the clubhouse, and you were grateful for it. It saved you up enough money to get out of your grandma’s house and into your own space. Something small, or cozy as you called it, but your own. You had eventually worked your way into the scrapyard because you couldn’t keep your mouth shut. Overhearing Bishop and Taza talk about numbers and manufacturer meetings and how business wasn’t doing too great as you served them beer was the first step into it. You offered your two cents on how to boost business, that turned into giving some occasional business advice. You had gotten an associates degree in business, opportunity was just lacking in Santo Padre. Eventually, you started pulling in buyers, which led you to where you were now. You had taken the scrapyard truck out to a potential buy, but were driving back with a loss. It had already started out as a rough morning and it was just getting rougher.
It was days like this that you forgot about the multi-year long prank war that you had going with the guys in the club. It was something you and Angel had started prior to you getting close with the club and once it became known across the club, there was no way Gilly and Coco weren’t going to be apart of it. Now, the prank war wasn’t something front of the brain 24/7, that was the secret behind making it successful all these years. It was random. It was calculated but spontaneous all at the same time.
You whipped open the door to the scrapyard office, it made Angel jump, a scene that would have brought you to laughter any other day but you ignored currently.
“What the fucks got you twisted?” Angel was now standing, his sleeveless Romero Bros. work shirt covered in dirt and rust.
“California fuckin’ Steel company. That’s who.” You threw your bag on the desk and placed your hands on your head in an act of stress.
“Okaaaay,” Angel frowned and stepped out from behind the desk so he was standing to your right. “They’re always on some fuck shit, what’s really your issue?” He saw right through you, a perk and downfall of him knowing you so well.
You took a deep breath and turned to look up at him as he towered over you. You saw the cuphead patch on his shirt and smirked. “You put the patch I gave you on.”
Cuphead was a memory you two shared, sitting after school in front of the TV in the Reyes’ living room and playing until Marisol called out for dinnertime or Felipe unplugged the xBox to watch baseball.
Angel looked down at his shirt and back at you, “Yea, I couldn’t put that shit on my kutte, I’d never hear the end of it.”
You laughed and shook your head, when you gave him the patch you expected it to sit leaning on the outside of a picture frame in his house, not on any of his clothing items.
“My grandma’s sick and my cousin, he’s fuckin’ on hooked on that shit again. It’s got him stealing and not just shit around the house but taking my grandma’s pills now.”
“Fuck.” Angel whispered under his breath and looked away for a second before he was looking back down at you again.
“It’s fine, I talked to my aunt, they’re looking to put my grandma into a home or something.” You rolled your eyes and let out a sigh.
“That’s bullshit, your grandma’s lived in that house practically her whole life they should send your junkie ass cousin away.” He was getting loud.
“It’s out of my hands Angel,” You lifted your hands up in innocence “I offered for her to come stay at my place instead, but you know my aunt, she’s” you shook your hand in a way that was meant to describe your aunt as you turned around to look for your car keys. “You get a chance to look at my car yet?”
After your third time having trouble starting your car, you had asked Angel if he could look at it, it wasn’t the same as giving it to a mechanic but Angel knew a thing or two about mechanics since having his bike.
“Oh,” Angel went deep into thought, “uh, no.” He reached down and snatched the keys as you went to grab them yourself.
You looked at him confused.
“I’ve been up to my fuckin’ eyeballs in paperwork that I barely understand.” He pointed to the stack of manila folders on the table. “Haven’t had a chance to look at it.”
“Oh alright, well, I’ll take the paperwork. Least I can do so you can fix my shit and save me the 200 bucks. I’ll be in the clubhouse if you need me.”
“Aight.” Angel let his shoulders slump once you were out of the office. Gilly and Coco making their way into the office now.
“Yo, you fuck with the wiper fluid and put that fake broken glass shit on her car?” Gilly chuckled as he walked in.
“I’m bout to go take that shit out.” Angel sounded on edge.
“The fuck for?” Coco asked, confused since he had thought it was a genius prank.
“She’s got a lot going on man, it just ain’t the right time.” Angel was making his way out to reverse the pranks he had done to your car.
“We gotta get them both.” Gilly said with a smirk once Angel was out of earshot.
“Fuck yea we do.” Coco said, bringing a cigarette up to his mouth.
_____
Angel calling out your name caused you to turn around. As you did, you realized the clubhouse had filled up since you had posted up to work in here. A few of the club guys and some hang arounds filling the tables surrounding you.
“I fixed your car, needed a new battery. Nothing serious. Got one from Walmart.” Angel was making his way over to you and as he reached the seat next to you, he pulled the chair out and made himself comfortable before sliding the keys over to you.
“Thanks, how much was it? I’ll send you the money.” You pulled your phone out.
“Nah, don’t worry about it. Just have me over for dinner or some shit soon.” He smirked hoping it’d earn a smile from you as well.
It did. You smiled and grabbed your keys from the table.
“You know,” Angel started his sentence without a single thought about where it was really headed, not sure how to say the next few words. “Uh,” he leaned forward, clearly uncomfortable.
“Spit it out, Angel.” You were now leaning forward too, placing your hand on Angel’s knee in hopes to get him to say whatever he was trying to.
It did the opposite, it choked him up more until he finally just said it. “I was thinkin’, you could come stay with me if you wanted.”
Your face twisted in muddled confusion which caused Angel to panic. “Nah I just mean, you know, your grandma might be comin’ to your place and I know you worked mad hard to get your whole bach pad situation and appreciate your alone time so I figured I’d offer my place up,” he said before practically cutting himself off to keep going. “And I know it wouldn’t be living alone but I’m usually always here anyways so you’d have the place to yourself way more than if you stayed with your grandma. I just figured it’d be worth the offer with everything going on–”
You cut Angel off as you lifted off your seat and wrapped your arms around him tightly. His seat pushed back a little from the force of your embrace, he sat there frozen for a second before he let his hands rest on your back.
“Thank you.” You whispered as you hugged him tightly. A few whistles from the guys filled the air, a couple howls too as you embraced your best friend. It wasn’t shocking, it was a normal occurrence, everyone was in on you and Angel’s connection except the two of you.
Before you had a chance to make a comment back to them, the clubhouse doors were busting open and Coco and Gilly were entering inside with water guns pointed directly at you and Angel.
“Get wrecked motherfuckers!!!!!” Gilly screamed as the water gun pressured out gallons of water each time he pumped the gun.
Out of instinct, Angel grabbed you around your waist as you two toppled behind the table in an attempt to block yourselves from their range. You let out a belly laugh as your backs leaned against the underneath of the table that was turned to its side. Angel looked over at you his frown turning into a smile.
“We are so going to get them back for this.”
Angel laughed at that. “In the 6 years we’ve been doing prank wars you never paired up with me once.”
As you opened your mouth to answer you were hit immediately with a splash of water on your face. Quickly grabbing Angel’s hand you were up and running out of the club house. It was then that you realized Bishop and a few of the other guys were yelling at Coco and Gilly to knock it off but you kept a one track mind and just pulled Angel out to the yard with you.
You kept moving until you were well into the scrapyard and you knew Coco and Gilly were probably being ripped a new one by Bishop so there wasn’t a chance they’d be able to get you out here.
“Holy shit.” You laughed and looked up at Angel who was soaked from head to toe. “You’re drenched.”
“Looks like we match.” Angel pointed to you with the hand that wasn’t still intertwined with yours.
Your eyes looked down to see the water dripping off the hem of your work shirt and pooling to your feet in the sand/dirt medley on the scrapyard ground.
“C’mon. We got some extra work shirts laying around, let’s get you one so you don’t have to ride home soaked.”
“Your home.” You corrected him. His head snapped to you. “Think I might take you up on that offer.”
Angel didn’t want to change your mind so he just nodded while saying nothing except that he’d get a key made for you.
____
You ran a towel over your hair and were now changed into something dry for the most part as you got into your car. Your driver side window rolled down as Angel stood a few yards from you a lot less drenched than before but still sporting wet hair, his normal styled hair was sobbing wet and falling around his forehead. Gilly and Coco were on the porch of the clubhouse and you offered them both a smile and middle finger before starting to back up.
“Thanks for fixing my car!” You went to beep the horn as a thanks when you heard the flag raise sound from the Cuphead game leave your horn. The high pitch glissando of someone sliding across the keys and the announcement of cuphead filling the air.
Your jaw dropped and turned to Angel very slowly. His eyes were wide and he was immediately yelling out to you.
“I thought I changed everything back!”
You continued to back out and as you put the car in drive you said one last thing to Angel before leaving.
“Oh it’s on, Reyes.”

A Guided Tour of the Fortress Blizzardpaddles
Tumblr media
Starting from the top of the fortress, I have a mist generator on the roof
Tumblr media
Above the entrance I have a public tavern and a small library. Archer towers surround my fort, though they've never been put to use.
Tumblr media
Before the archer towers, I build this platform for my archers. Also never used. The platform in the center was originally just meant to keep snow and rain from falling into the fortress.
Tumblr media
At ground level, we have corpse and refuse stockpiles, beehives, nest boxes, and a garden.
Tumblr media
On the main floor, we have the trade depot right at the entrance. I separate my trade goods into two stockpiles: one for elves, and one for everyone else. I recently overhauled my military and relocated some of the barracks and archery ranges. at the south is my fishery, which is protected with iron grates in the river and glass blocks above. I'm not sure why but I have perpetual ice in the river. To the east are some new farms I'm building to scale up my dye and cloth production. I also have my surface hospital here, seed storage, and a mist generator.
Tumblr media
Below I have archery ranges, soap making, my citizen's/residents tavern (recently rearranged) milling and pressing, farms, and farmer workshops. I'm proud of that tower sticking up out of the water. The river here freezes from mid-autumn to early spring but it was a race against the clock to get that watertight.
Tumblr media
Here I have food & Drink storage for the tavern above. I also have a large library with hundreds of written works. Beneath the soapmakers workshops is a stockpile of lye, oil, and tallow. Below the farmers workshops is a stockpile for wool, milk, and processable plants.
Tumblr media
Food and drink production, including butchers, ashery (supplying lye upwards), stills, and kitchens.
Tumblr media
Storage and supplies for food & drink production, and block & brick storage. meltable objects are above the smelters for recycling.
Tumblr media
Manufacturing level. I try to keep workshops grouped by supply chain, with stockpiles above and below in a way that makes sense. See below for an example.
Tumblr media
Wood feeds the carpenters and the wood furnace. Fuel is near all the furnaces, kilns, and forges. Textile industry is grouped together. This requires quite a bit of planning, and learning from experience from previous forts.
Tumblr media
TEMPLES! I started making quadruple-size temples for the faiths with ~100 followers, because the smaller ones were getting very crowded. Every temple has a bunch of instruments, and almost all of them have a dedicated performer. The large temples are built with steel block walls.
Tumblr media
Nobles apartments, and museum.
Tumblr media
Guildhalls. I'm starting to build more even if the guilds aren't established yet. As my economy grows more complex, there are a lot more job titles, so there are fewer guilds being established.
Tumblr media
Residential quarter. This is my first time giving everyone a 4x4 bedroom. I used to do 1x3 bedrooms, which allowed me to fit 12 rooms per block. I think the dwarves prefer the extra space though. I spent several years renovating the bedrooms by replacing stone walls with porcelain brick, and they LOVE it!
Tumblr media
Tombs. Too many tombs. Most of them are full, a lot of them are pets though. My dungeons is here, with my Cask of Amontillado'd werelizard in the northeast corner.
Tumblr media
And finally, several layers below, is my cavern hospital. It's really nice to have a second hospital down below for when the Amphibian Folk come and fuck with us.
That's all for this fort. My FPS hovers between 8 and 15 so it takes about 15 hours to go through a single year. I don't want to be done with it, but it's getting unbearably slow.

What is main things to clean a kitchen?
Keeping your kitchen clean is essential for maintaining a healthy and pleasant cooking environment. Regular cleaning not only ensures that your kitchen remains hygienic but also helps prevent the buildup of grime, which can lead to unpleasant odors and potential health hazards. To efficiently clean your kitchen, it's important to focus on several key areas and use the right tools and techniques. This guide will walk you through the main tasks involved in kitchen cleaning, offering tips and answering common questions to help you maintain a spotless kitchen.
What is the Necessary Things You Need In The Kitchen
Counters and Surfaces: Start by clearing off all countertops, including any small appliances, utensils, and food items. Use a kitchen cleaner or a mix of mild soap and water to wipe down surfaces. Pay attention to areas around the sink, stove, and backsplash where spills and splatters can accumulate.
Sink: The sink often harbors bacteria and food particles. Scrub the sink with a non-abrasive cleaner or a mixture of baking soda and water. For a sparkling finish, you can also use a solution of vinegar and water. Don’t forget to clean the faucet and handles, as these are frequently touched areas.
Stovetop: Remove burner grates and knobs if you have a gas stove. Soak them in soapy water and scrub away any grease or residue. For electric stoves, wipe down the surface with a suitable cleaner, ensuring you don’t use excessive moisture that could damage electrical components.
Oven: Clean the interior of the oven periodically to avoid the buildup of burnt food and grease. Use an oven cleaner or a homemade paste of baking soda and water. For self-cleaning ovens, follow the manufacturer’s instructions to activate the cleaning cycle.
Refrigerator: Empty the refrigerator and discard any expired or unwanted food. Wipe down shelves and drawers with a mixture of water and mild detergent. Clean the exterior and handles with an all-purpose cleaner.
Flooring: Sweep or vacuum the kitchen floor to remove crumbs and debris. Mop the floor using a cleaner suitable for your flooring type (tile, laminate, etc.). Make sure to rinse the mop frequently to avoid spreading dirt around.
Garbage and Recycling: Regularly empty the trash and recycling bins to prevent odors and bacterial growth. Clean the bins themselves with soap and water to remove any residual grime.
Small Appliances: Wipe down small appliances like toasters, microwaves, and coffee makers. For appliances with removable parts, such as toaster trays or microwave turntables, wash them separately.
Frequently Asked Question
How often should I clean my kitchen?
It’s best to do a quick clean daily—wipe down surfaces, wash dishes, and sweep the floor. A more thorough cleaning should be done weekly, including scrubbing the sink, stovetop, and refrigerator. Monthly or quarterly, address deep cleaning tasks like oven cleaning and organizing cabinets.
What’s the best way to clean greasy kitchen cabinets?
To clean greasy cabinets, use a mixture of warm water and dish soap. For stubborn grease, add a bit of baking soda to the solution. Apply with a soft cloth or sponge, and wipe with a clean, damp cloth to remove any soap residue.
How do I get rid of odors in my garbage disposal?
To eliminate odors, grind up lemon peels or ice cubes in the disposal. You can also use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar, letting it sit for a few minutes before running water through the disposal.
Can I use bleach to clean my kitchen?
While bleach is effective for disinfecting, it’s often too harsh for regular kitchen cleaning. Use it sparingly and always dilute it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. For routine cleaning, stick to milder cleaners to avoid damaging surfaces.
What’s the best way to clean stainless steel appliances?
To clean stainless steel appliances, use a dedicated stainless steel cleaner or a mixture of water and vinegar. Wipe in the direction of the grain and dry with a soft cloth to avoid streaks and water spots.
Conclusion
A clean kitchen is the cornerstone of a healthy and enjoyable cooking experience. By regularly addressing key areas such as countertops, sinks, stovetops, and floors, and utilizing the right cleaning tools and techniques, you can maintain a space that is not only visually appealing but also hygienic. Remember that consistency is key—daily tidying, weekly deep cleaning, and periodic maintenance will keep your kitchen in top shape. By incorporating these practices into your routine and addressing common questions and concerns, you'll ensure that your kitchen remains a safe, efficient, and pleasant place to prepare meals. Happy cleaning!

H.R.H. The Crown Princess's speech at a dinner hosted by Business Sweden and the Swedish Embassy
Your Excellencies Lords and Ladies Ministers Members of Parliament Ladies and Gentlemen
The Spinning Jenny, ball bearings, the steam engine, the spanner, the pacemaker, Tetra Pak, the tin can, Spotify and the World-Wide-Web.
The UK and Sweden are countries with fine traditions in entrepreneurship and innovation. We have created things that have developed the world! People all around the Globe are using our services and products.
I am grateful to Business Sweden for arranging this dinner. This room is filled with companies and other stakeholders that stand for creativity and great ideas!
The ties between our countries are strong and have been so for a long time. And that also applies to me personally!
Today I think of my great-grandmother Crown Princess Margareta. She was born Margaret of Connaught at Bagshot Park in 1882 and married the Swedish King to be, Gustaf Adolf. Even though her life was all too short, she had a great impact on our country with her openness and liberal values.
She was a pioneer in many ways, not least in popular Swedish winter-sports like bandy, where she, in her long skirt, was captain of the team. Off the ice, she fought for women’s rights, and she made great efforts to bring our countries closer together.
We are, with this dinner, taking new steps in strengthening the cooperation between the UK and Sweden.
Tomorrow marks the start of the UN Climate Summit, COP28. The world will once again come together to address the biggest threat of our time: the climate change.
Deep, rapid, and sustained reductions in greenhouse gas emissions are needed. The challenges and problems are obvious.
But there is also hope – and changes for the better are happening all around us. And you, who are in this room, represent that!
Our governments cooperate closely. There is also tremendous power when the business community act together. Both the UK and Sweden are world leading on innovation, and our global competitiveness is closely linked to our strive towards green transition.
To provide just a few examples:
The new industries of green batteries and green steel are paving the way for major vehicle manufacturers to be at the forefront of the transition to fossil-free vehicles. Another example are banks, in both our countries, providing financing to large companies embarking on their climate transition journey.
The beliefs that have driven us forward in history will also help save our tomorrow! And we know that the next crucial technological leap lies in sustainable development.
With these words, I wish you all a lovely dinner.
Let us strengthen the cooperation for a sustainable future.
Let us create even stronger ties between the UK and Sweden!
Thank you!
Speech held by H.R.H. Crown Princess Victoria in London, United Kingdom on Nov. 29, 2023.

On December 26th 1760 “Roebucks, Garbett and Cadells”, later The Carron Company IronWorks, near Falkirk, brought its first blast furnace into operation.
The factory of Roebucks, Garbett and Cadells was established on the north bank of Carron Water, two miles north of Falkirk. Taking iron ore from Bo'ness and water from the Carron, they decided to use the new method pioneered by Abraham Darby at the Coalbrookdale Co, using coke from coal mines in the vicinity as fuel rather than the usual charcoal. The works helped to push other less technologically advanced ironworks, such as the Wealden iron industry based in the Weald, out of business.
Caddell’s young son, also William Cadell, Junior, was appointed manager, and the company’s financial position was precarious in its first few years. It took time and a considerable investment to create the necessary infrastructure and for the largely unskilled workforce to develop the techniques of iron working.
1759 November 11th. The partnership, commencing on 11th November, 1759, was signed on 19th January and 9th February, 1760. There were seven partners, and the capital was to be £12,000, divided into 24 parts or shares. Roebuck and Garbett both had a quarter of the shares valued at £3,000 shares each, Caddell Senior and Junior had another £3,000 worth split evenly between them, the other quarter was split evenly between Roebucks brothers Thomas; Benjamin and Ebenezer.
The company was, at that time, known as “Roebucks, Garbett and Cadells” when the factory started to produce cast iron goods, they were of a generally poor quality. Nevertheless, in 1764, the Board of Ordnance granted the company a lucrative contract to supply armaments to the British armed forces. The company also cast parts for James Watt’s steam engine in 1765.
The company received a royal charter to incorporate as the Carron Company in 1773. However, despite their best efforts, the quality of the company’s products remained low, this resulted in the company’s contracts to supply the Royal Navy being cancelled in 1773.
Undeterred, the company pushed forward the development of a new type of cannon, shorter and therefore much lighter than a long gun of the same calibre known as the “Carronade”.
The carronade was a considerable success, and remained in production from 1778 through to the 1850s. The company established such a reputation for quality that the Duke of Wellington remarked in a letter to Admiral Berkley in 1812 that he only wanted cannon manufactured by the Carron Company in his army. The company also made ammunition, including some invented by Henry Shrapnel.
By 1814, the Carron Company was the largest iron works in Europe, employing over 2,000 workers. They continued to produce pig iron through the 19th century, together with cast-iron products such as balustrades, fire grates, and the Carron bathtub. The company ran its own shipping line and produced munitions in both World Wars. It later became one of several foundries producing pillar boxes and was one of five foundries casting Sir Giles Gilbert Scott’s classic Red telephone boxes. In the 1960s, it produced cast-iron rings to line the Tyne Tunnel under the River Tyne from Jarrow to Howdon and the Clyde Tunnel under the River Clyde from Whiteinch to Govan near Glasgow.
The company diversified into plastics and stainless steel, but the works went into receivership in 1982. The company was bought over and still operates today under the name of Carron Phoenix, part of the Franke corporation. Like its predecessor, The Carron Company, Carron Phoenix’s headquarters are at the Carron Works in Falkirk.
Carron Phoenix produces stainless steel, ceramic and granite molded sinks that are sold around the world; however, some areas of production have been moved to China and Slovakia.
The company still has a big influence in the area with two local bars named in connection with it, The Carron Works in the Town Centre is an old cinema and now a J D Wetherspoon bar, and nearer the works is The Carronade, where one of our members, my friend Jean Helen Harley is a barmaid.
The pics show the old gates and company crest, and two carronades in nearby Stenhousemuir. If you see a red post box around there is a good chance it came from The Carron Works.
