Alright, with the timeline clarification question out of the way, its time to start getting my thoughts on the StarSwap AU.
For starters, Star Swap Phantom Blood undergoes a complete tonal shift.
Like, regular Phantom Blood is probably the most serious of the JoJo parts. I don’t think it has any sections of it that are intentionally played for laughs.
And that all changes with Jolyne arrives because she is officially done with this before it even starts.
While the whole “having to adapt to life as a Victorian gentlemen”, sucks, the one things she is fully prepared for is Dio’s Bullshit. She doesn’t even bother tolerating him.
Dio: (says some thinly veiled insult)
Jolyne: Alright, sure, fuck you too.
Dio: wha- you can’t just say things like that!
Jolyne: Watch me. (Flips Dio off while walking away)
The first fight against Vampire Dio is going to be less about “Oh no! My brother’s become a monster!” and more “Heck yeah! I can finally punch this asshole without without anyone complaining about it anymore!”
Dio: I have rejected my humanity, JoJo!
Jolyne: Alright cool but are you a stand user? (Summons Stone Free)
Dio: A stand what? (Doesn’t notice)
(Stone Free Punches him in the face)
And the whole initial Zeppeli interaction goes differently. Because he still shows up and punches Jolyne in the stomach, activating her latent hamon potential (Yaaay hamon-user Jolyne is the best), but rather that being shocked, Jolyne just punches Zeppili back and sends him flying.
And then the final Fight against Dio is going to be much less dramatic, because Jolyne does not give him the opportunity to be dramatic.
Dio: I can freeze your blood!
Jolyne: Okay but what is my blood was string?
Dio: (irratated WRYYYYYY)
Dio: I can shoot pressurized fluid from my eyes!
Jolyne: Okay, now I know you’re just trying to show off (deflects space ripper stingy eyes with Stone Free)
Dio: (infuriated WRYYYYYY)
This isn’t to say that the fights aren’t going to be challenging for her, they definitely are.
But having a stand gives Jolyne a much more level playing field against Dio compared to what Jonathan had to deal with.
RJHBFHJDRBFHBHVD Y E A H -
Jolyne is 110% D O N E with every single aspect of Dio's Bullshit. Honestly what he's doing is almost nothing compared to Literal Prison and he's not even a Stand User so dealing with him is easy
the time period? honestly sucks ass. At the very least she has a good status, but she really misses her old body. She misses being able to be Jolyne and a she, but this is possibly one of the single worst time periods for those feelings to exist in
so Dio ends up being a good outlet for all these frustrations. She isn't fooled by his Playing Nice attitude, she knows he's plotting some shit. Plus, even him playing nice doesn't make him kind. In the beginning she thinks Jonathan would've been incredibly gullible and stupid to believe it........ but then she learns and experiences exactly Jonathan had to live his life and realises Dio's "change" was probably the kindest thing the guy had ever experienced
but she doesn't have time to deal with All That, so she decides to spend her time getting back at Dio and making a nice life Jonathan could maybe return to :D
and to make things even funnier, what if as the months/years go by, Jolyne slowly perfects the art of subtly telling Dio to Fuck Off in public and various explicit Fuck Offs to tell him when nobody else is around. It throws Dio off completely because not only is Jonathan acting VERY different, but he's also actually pushing back and noticing what he's doing which is a mix of confusing, freaky and frustrating. Plus....... there's all the strange supernatural things happening around his 'brother.' Dio could've sworn he's seen objects float, he trips on apparently nothing almost daily, things seem to move with no one there to move them
If Dio had a new sudden interest in stories of the supernatural...... well that's nobodies business
(and if Jolyne took extra care to specifically fuck around with his super natural stuff, that's nobodies business either :3)
but also YEAH Jolyne is going so happy to finally have an excuse to finally be able to get Dio in trouble for all the shit he's pulled over the years. Sure it's not for everything, and honestly most of the things he did are likely to stay unknown for the rest of their lives, but at least this one would get Dio locked up for a good while, if not for the rest of his life
I think it would be funny for Speedwagon to be a bit surprised by Jolyne's reaction. After all, as far as he's aware this is Jolyne's brother, sure there are some conflicting feelings there.......... but then she quickly explains All The Shit Dio's Pulled Over The Years and his surprise becomes "oh yeah never mind that makes sense fuck that guy"
(it's also entirely possible that while the mansion burns down, George might not die. Jolyne doesn't have the same honour code as Jonathan and wouldn't be lured as easily. And even if she was, she'd at least have the abilities to redirect the knife safely)
I do think Jolyne would be a bit more secretive with her Stand though, just in general. She's absolutely going to use it whenever she can, but Stone Free is one card she aims to keep as close to her chest as possible. She's going to be going all out when the mansion starts burning down. Using SF to make holes around Dio's attacks to avoid getting injured, climbing the walls to get out of reach, anything she can do to take this guy down she pulls out every trick she has because she knows that only one of them is walking away from this fight
as a result, while she's still definitely going to have to spend some time in the hospital, she's going to be way less injured than Jonathan was, which is nice. She's immediately on edge when Zeppeli shows up tho, she's gotten blindsided by too much Bullshit Shenanigans to let herself get caught off guard that easily. Unfortunately with her injuries Zeppeli still manages to punch her, and while it does wind her she immediately decks him right back
also, Stone Free is going to be ridiculously compatible with Hamon. Kinda like with Joseph and Hermit Purple, Stone Free's reach and dexterity is now going to be given an extra punch
and dhrbghvdbhvbd the "what if my blood was string" definitely got a laugh out of me, and given the fact most of the people present know Stone Free exists she probably wouldn't be too secretive about it at the moment. The fight is made a bit difficult in how Dio is ow consciously aware of SF, and how while he can't see the Stand he's still strong enough to rip them with relative ease if Jolyne's not careful

Yesterday, I bring you doodles for @starry-blue-echoes BeastStars AU, today? A fic for the StarSwap AU
I don’t know why, but the idea of leaving a journal for someone to find is so much fun to me, and this idea’s been in my mind since basically I first read the AU, so hopefully you enjoy this as much as my doodles!
I feel like it lowkey kinda jumps all over the place near the end, but I have ADHD and Joseph probably does too so it fits lol
Joseph paced around the room belonging to the body he found himself in. He wished that he had something, something like a pair of clackers so that he’d be able to do something with his hands as he thought.
He decided to review what he knew: he had just gotten out of training with Caeser for the day and headed to bed. When he woke up, he was in an unfamiliar room in a place he didn’t recognize, in a body way too small and way too thin. Long wavy blond hair instead of his ever messy short brown hair with green eyes instead of blue. He still had that same odd star-shaped birthmark though, so Joseph was unsure if it was somehow brought with him when he got transported to this body, or if the boy had always had it too.
It was possible, based on the student ID he had found while rummaging through the boys' stuff. According to the ID, he was a 15 year old Japanese-British boy living in Italy, born April 16, 1985, name: Giorno Giovanna.
Something was off about the ID though. Joseph has always been good at picking up on things. Intuition and observation mixing to be able to tell what pocket you had just put your wallet in, or even what the next words out of someone’s mouth were going to be. He prided himself on his talent, though he felt like there was always just a little extra nudge that he had in his predictions. Maybe it was this unknown factor at play which helped Joseph figure out what was wrong with the ID, because, by all accounts, it was perfectly normal. But, he was Joseph Joestar, and he could tell, the ID had been changed once before. Probably something as simple as the name and the picture, but still, it was enough for Joseph to wonder why this Giorno boy had tampered with the ID.
Joseph stopped pacing and took a deep breath in, feeling the familiar sensation of hamon ripple across his body. No, now was not the time to be thinking of why Giorno changed his name and picture. What mattered right now was A) how did he get here? B) How long will he be here? And C) How to get back to Air Supplena island.
He was currently over 50 years in the future in the body of a boy who was probably related to him. Question B was what mattered most here. He didn’t know this boy, and didn’t know where he was while Joseph occupied his body. His best guess was that Giorno was in his body right now, but even with his sometimes magical intuition, he couldn’t be sure. Hopefully, someday he’ll fulfill matter C, and go home, but, while Joseph didn’t usually care too much about matters that didn’t concern him, considering that he was in Giorno’s body this concerned him all too much.
Alright. Joseph didn’t know what to do in the long run, but for now he can start with just one step. He’ll make a journal for Giorno to read so that he’ll know what Joseph was doing while in his body. It was only polite, after all. At least, he assumes so.
Joseph changed out of the pajamas Giorno was wearing last night into a pink suit that had a heart shape in the chest area, choosing the green ladybug brooches to go with it. Now, just to find a store to buy a journal from.
_—_—_
Dear Giorno,
Hello! I’m sure you’re very confused as to what’s going on right now, and honestly, so am I. But! I’m trying to help remedy that by getting this journal for you! I hope you don’t mind me using your money like this, but I think it’ll be beneficial in the long run! Why? You may be asking, well, it’s so that I can record everything that happens to me while in your body so you’ll know just where you (I) left off when you eventually come back!
_—_—_
Joseph tapped his pen to the paper, thinking of what to write. Is this a good start? He hoped it was. He wanted to make a good first impression. If this could count as one at least. Giorno was going to come back eventually. He had to. Especially if they did switch, because then that would mean that Giorno would have to fight the Pillarmen in his stead, and that’s not something that a random 15 year old should have to deal with, even if they are related. Blood shouldn’t have to determine your battles, and who knows if Giorno would even be able to produce hamon. Whenever Joseph tried, he always got that faint pins and needles feeling you get from when your body starts to fall asleep. Giorno shouldn’t have to deal with that.
_—_—_
I hope that you can return to your body quickly, and I’m not just saying that because I want to be rid of you!
My name is Joseph Joestar, and I’m 18 years old from Britain, though I recently moved to the States, specifically New York! If you ended up in my body, then I do hope you got along well with Granny Erina and Grandpa Speedwagon. Granny can be a bit harsh at times, but it’s only because she cares so much, and admittedly I do get into a lot of trouble.
I don’t have much to write about today, as I just woke up a little more than an hour ago, but I promise I’ll try to keep your life under control. Schoolwork, extracurriculars, jobs, social life, no matter what, I’ll try and keep it just the way you had it so that when you return it’ll be seamless. I’m pretty quick at picking things up, so no one will even know the difference! I can even predict what people are going to say next, so don’t worry, your body is in safe hands!
Though, speaking of social life, you’re quite the popular one, aren’t you? Everyone seemed to know who you were, and even a few girls tried to flirt with you! If I’m right, then it’s gotta be that Joestar charm! Hahah, just kidding. And if you don’t know what I’m talking about, everyone in my family, the Joestars, have a star-shaped birthmark on the back of their neck-shoulders. I saw that you have one too, so I’m mainly just assuming. Your last name is different, but that could just be because I’m from 1938 and you’re from 2001, so it makes sense that the family name might change in that time. You’re from pretty far down the family tree, huh? Unless somehow I brought my own mark with me when I started to occupy your body, which is a silly thought.
(P.S. Giorno, if you know who the Pillarmen are, I’m so, so, so sorry. I’ll try to see if I can return back to my body before you have to face them. If I can help it, then you won’t have to lift a finger against them, that I swear.)
_—_—_
Joseph twirled the pen in his fingers. That should be enough, right?
If the two did switch, then the dates would probably be one-to-one, right? Joseph went to check the calendar. March. Girno’s birthday will be in a few weeks. God, he hoped that Giorno didn’t have to deal with the Pillarmen on what would be his birthday.
…Maybe he should get Giorno a gift? Again, hopefully he won’t be here that long, but it could serve as a nice sentiment either way. What would he even like?
Joseph scanned the room for any ideas. It was then that he realized, the room was… almost painfully bare. Just the plain walls and boring bedsheets, devoid of any real personality, especially when in comparison to the bright and loud clothes the boy had in his wardrobe. Joseph prided himself on being able to pick up on the minute details that no one else even bothered to notice. Now even Joseph himself was too wrapped up in his own predicament to notice the layout of the boy’s room. But now, it’s not like he can just pass it off as Giorno only recently moving into the dorm room. He’s been here long enough for everyone to recognize him, for him to change his student ID.
…At the very least, he seems to like ladybugs. Joseph had just promised Giorno to keep his life exactly the same, but maybe, just maybe, Giorno would appreciate a little more life in his life when he gets back.
He’s Joseph Joestar, and he’s able to pick on the most little things to be able to predict what someone’s going to say next. A mix of intuition, observation, and perhaps even a secret third thing. He will find out what Giorno likes, and he will give him things that will make this kid happy!
Joseph pulled out Giorno’s wallet once more, where he found the ID. But there was something else in there before, a picture. His back was to the camera and his face was covered in shadows. He hadn’t paid it much mind before, just trying to figure out who this kid was, but now that he’s trying to figure out who this kid is, it’s another story. The man had a scar on his neck, and long wavy blond hair like Giorno’s, with a matching star birthmark. The name DIO BRANDO is written on it.
That name, it sounds familiar, but cursing his stupid brain, he couldn’t remember from where. Whatever the case, the man, presumably named Dio, was obviously related to Giorno. His father, or maybe older brother? It wouldn’t solve the mystery of how Joseph knew his name, perhaps maybe just an odd sense of deja vu, but it would help in figuring out Giorno.
Their last names were different, which would explain the name change on Giorno’s ID, but that wouldn’t explain why he keeps the photo in his wallet. Maybe just nostalgia for what once was, or maybe, Giorno didn’t know who the man was, and kept it as a memento of what could’ve been.
Either way, he probably wouldn’t be a good source. What Joseph needs is, 1) Honestly probably a class schedule, to keep Giorno’s life on track, and more importantly 2) People who actually know Giorno. Out of everyone who greeted him before, thinking they were talking to Giorno, there weren’t any who seemed to try and engage past common pleasantries. He needed someone who was actually friends with him. Then they’d be able to figure out Giorno’s likes and dislikes and who he is. Of course, he’ll have to probe it out of them discreetly so they won’t notice their friend’s magically being switched out, but hey, he’s Joseph Joestar, it’s nothing he can’t handle.
And, if all else fails, at the very least, he seems to like ladybugs.

We get almost nothing about her in cannon but- Mary Joestar, Jonathan's mom... Thinking about her. All we really know of her in cannon is that she died in the carriage crash that introduced Dario to the Joestars, died precisely because she was shielding baby Jonathan with her body.
I wonder how that weighed on Jonathan, the weight of that sacrifice for him, his mother dying to protect him when he was too young to even remember it. We know he's entranced by the stone mask partially because it was hers. Maybe his own self-sacrificial tendencies come partially from a desire to live up to that legacy. Maybe his fascination with the morbid and archeology was inherited from her, him looking into his mother's interests to feel closer to her and discovering that it really resonates with him too.
And if she lived- maybe things would be different. Maybe Jonathan would have younger siblings. Maybe Dio would've done better, maybe she would've been able to reach him.
...I think Jonathan would wonder about that.
(For AUs: In Jonaplat, Holly reminds him of the version of his mother he always imagined, how much she cares for Jotaro, and he tries to push Jotaro towards her a bit. He never got to have a mother's love like that, so he wants Jotaro to be able to appreciate it. Especially in EarlyBird/Jonaplat, where Holly fighting to save Jotaro draws an even stronger parallel to his own mother's sacrifice. In Starswap, he gets really emotional when he's able to see Jolyne's mom at some point- he knows this isn't his, but it just... hit him harder than expected, and he can't help but bask in it for a moment. For any 'all the joestars interact' he feels so lost being the family patriarch and desperately wants someone to turn to, especially if George is dead at that point too, but he has to be strong for everyone. In Behind Closed Doors, he sometimes wonders if George would be happier if she'd lived instead of him. In any of the Jonathan-lives-as-vamp post-part-3 there's times, during the hundred years in the coffin, when he's trapped in the mansion as Dio menaces his descendants, where he wonders if she would've been able to get through to Dio where he hadn't, if none of this would've happened if she'd lived instead of him.)
(She'd be proud of him though, in every timeline. Maybe she could've done better, maybe things would've been better if he'd died and she'd lived, but she would have saved him a hundred times over either way.)
(She'd be so sorry, that her interest in the mask caused so much pain for her descendants. But there was no way she could have known. Nothing she could have done. She would have, if only she could.)
(And just like her, Jonathan would've done anything for his descendants, if he lived long enough to see them.)
(But fate never gave them a chance.)
Y E S S S S S S S S S S S S
Part of the beauty of Mary Joestar is in how little we know about her. She could fit in practically any story you make for her and nobody would be able to argue other wise, but at the same time there are little whispers of her if you look close enough. It’s obvious she loved Jonathan, and it’s a bit of a shame that canon never touched on Jonathan’s feelings towards her.
Sometimes I think about the end of Phantom Blood. How Jonathan would’ve awoken confused in the after life, having died so incredibly young with really only two people waiting for him, being his father and Zeppeli……. But there would also be a third person. His mother. At long last they’d finally be able to get to know each other, and despite the sadness of why, they find it to be happy
In JonaPlat, I’d image Jonathan doing small things in the beginning when they’re still in Japan. A gentle nudge in Holly’s direction, a disapproving stare when Jotaro tries to push her away, little bits and pieces in order to try and get closer. Was it a tad selfish? Perhaps, but there were far worse things to be selfish about than a mother’s love. And in the Early Bird version, Jonathan would be hanging onto those memories Jotaro has in a death grip. In the bleak situation they were in that was the only light at the end of the tunnel
Starswap would also have him dealing with some good ol ✨imposter syndrome✨ which…… he wouldn’t really be able to get rid of because he technically is an imposter here. This isn’t his body and that isn’t his actual mother, and the love and worry she’s expressing is directed toward Jolyne, not him. The affection feels so good and comforting and makes him happy in a way he didn’t know was possible …. but at the same time it’s undercut with the cruel reality of his situation
Behind Closed Doors is going to fucking HURT, and not just him. Dio is going to be stuck with even more terrifying parallels between himself and Jonathan because I bet he’d also wished a couple times that he’d gotten sick instead of his mom. And maybe, just maybe, on the bad nights when Jonathan was alone with his thoughts, he’d wonder if his mother would have protected him from his father’s anger and disapproval

So, before I get into some of the specific ideas I have about the StarSwap AU, I would like to get a general clarification first.
Specifically, when do the swaps happen?
Because in the posts I’ve seen about Jotaro in Josuke’s body, the Jotaro involved is the one from the beginning of Stardust Crusaders, having just discovered Star Platinum.
This matched my original assumption, that the Joestars were swapped to and from the beginning of their respective adventures.
However, in the many posts about Jospeh in Gionro’s body the writing suggests that this Jospeh has been already been through part of his bizarre adventure, at least to the point of getting the poison rings.
This goes against my initial assumption.
So, when do the swaps take place? At what point in each bizarre adventure to the Joestar swap from, and where do they swap to?
(because I imagine Giorno won’t swap to partway through Jospeh’s adventure, since that would rob him of even more context for what is going on)
In addition to the Josuke/Jotaro and Giorno/Jospeh swaps, this will also have a pretty big effect on the Jolene/Jonathan swap. Depending on if the swap happens before or after Jolyne scratches herself with the stand arrow, either Jolyne or Jonathan won’t get a stand imeadiatley, and if Jonathan swaps away two early, he might never learn hamon.
(Hope this doesn’t come of as me being too critical. I really like this AU. But I also like a consistent timeline.)
Don't worry, I'm honestly surprised it took someone this long to ask about it, I haven't been that clear about it jsrbvjsbrjvs-
The one solid consistency through all of them is that the Jojo in question is sent over at minimum a week before the adventure kicks off properly, and..... admittedly how much they remember from their respective parts is a bit more inconsistent, but this is the general outline for each:
Jonathan gets sent over sometime after his training with Zeppeli begins but before the fight with Tarkus and Bruford. I wanted the Hamon Users to be able to actually use their Hamon and to give them something to put them on equal footing with the Stand Users. When he's sent over into Jolyne's shoes, he's either in jail awaiting the trial, or he's sent over a day or two before the accident that landed her in jail in the first place
Joseph, similarly to Jonathan, is sent over pretty late in his training on Air Supplena. He also knows about the existence of the Aja, but it's still before the fight with Esidisi, which I think is about a 3ish day window. He then wakes up a week before Giorno would've met Koichi and Bucciarati and spends most of his time generally trying to figure shit out and doing what he can to make Giorno's life a bit nicer for when the kid gets back
I'll admit..... Jotaro's exact Send Over is a bit more difficult to pin down. I want it to be at least a few days into the journey to Egypt so he has at least a basic understanding of Stands but is still very very lost and inexperienced in the matter. He arrives in the Higashikata's house a week before the first episode and thus a week before the first day of high school starts
In contrast to that, Josuke's is much easier. He hasn't started any of Part 4 since he's already familiar with Crazy D, and wakes up a week before Holly gets sick. While he doesn't lock himself in a cell, his Off behavior and the minor things he does with Crazy D eventually get Holly to call her father because she knows he's more experienced with Magic Shit
Giorno's is also pretty easy, he gets sent over a few days before the start of Part 5 because he's also already aware of Stands, and wakes up a few days before Part 2 kicks off but after Joseph and Erina had moved to New York
Jolyne though....... that's where I'm a bit more unsure. Definitely a few days into the prison stay, so she's got Stone Free, but I'm torn between having her come from before or after Jotaro's visit. And then the exact when she arrives in the past is even more undecided. Definitely after Danny's died, but honestly it could be anywhere in between the days afterward and a few months before Dio attempts his second patricide (Jolyne's really getting the isekai experience isn't she-)
