How do I ignore my authentic voice?

1) Knight of Cups - Stuck in a romantic fantasy. Emotionally demanding/needy. Illogical expectations and emotional reaction.

What scares me about speaking my truth?

2) Five of Swords - Self inflicted entrapment. Loss, gossip, mistrust. But also can lead to positive change if you put in the work. A need for closure you may never get. Fears, trauma and unresolved issues hold you back. Ignore negative thoughts and opinions from yourself and others.

How can I connect to my true voice?

3) Transformation - Elimination of distractions and difficulties. Your true priorities have been exposed allowing you to move forward. Continued spiritual growth and a change in relationships.

What is stopping me embracing who I am?

4) Knight of Crystals - Too set in your ways, stagnant energy, boredom, restlessness. Time to take constructive action. Remain focused on one small goal at a time. This also refers to a very loyal and responsible person in your life who can provide insight and knowledge if and when needed. You can count on them to guide you through this process.

How will this help me communicate better with the people around me?

5) King of Cups - By gaining back emotional strength and control over your life. Balancing work and hobbies. Connection and guidance through your higher self. Emotional maturity.

How can I connect to my intuition on a deeper level?

6) Nine of Wands - Overwhelming responsibility and limitations. However, your hard work and efforts are paying off. You have the inner strength, wisdom and preserverance to move forward. Their may be a minor setback or obstacle. Don’t lose sight of your goal. You’re almost there. You can and WILL achieve the success you seek.

The Cards: How I Practice Divination

I want to share about my experience using oracle and tarot cards in my personal practice. There’s so much I could write about tarot, but I’ve decided that for now I’ll stick with why I use the cards and how I use them. 

Before I get into it, I’ll clarify a couple terms. What’s the difference between tarot and oracle? Basically structure. Tarot has a rigid system (78 cards, 22 major arcana, 4 suits of minor arcana = pentacles, wands, cups, swords), but oracle has no preset structure and can use whatever system their creators choose. I typically use tarot to tell it to me like it is and oracle when I need a comforting hug.

Why I Use Cards A few years ago, I started to develop an interest in tarot. I’m not sure what first attracted me to tarot... perhaps because it felt mystical, witchy, taboo. I began learning about tarot from watching YouTube videos like this Trainee Tarot Course from Kelly-Ann Madox. I would research tarot decks and stare at pictures of cards. Eventually, I purchased my first tarot deck, the Starchild Tarot, in 2018. 

At first tarot was like a fun toy to play with whenever I wanted to feel witchy. However, as I began to study the cards systematically and read with them daily, I started to see the cards as a powerful tool for self-reflection and developed a practice to strengthen my intuition. Tarot has been and continues to be one of the most helpful tools in my spiritual development.

How I Use Cards At the beginning of each week, I do a 3 card tarot spread to get a sense of the upcoming week -- what the energy is like, potential obstacles, and any relevant advice. This helps me mentally frame the week ahead. Then I supplement throughout the rest of the week by doing a daily draw, where I draw either a tarot or oracle card to get a message for that specific day. 

I have two additional oracle decks as apps on my phone (Crazy Sexy Love Notes and The Universe Has Your Back) so I can always pull a card when I’m out an about (or rather, when I used to be out and about pre-pandemic). Beyond that, I also use different tarot spreads for special occasions like the new moon, the full moon, any Sabbats, birthdays, and planning for the year ahead. I enjoy reading for my friends as well since it’s a great way to practice and get real time feedback. Plus, I think it’s a fun way to bond. 

In general, I use tarot (and oracle) to check in with myself and the universe. I use my intuition to connect with the archetypes represented in the cards to ascertain a message to support my personal growth. I will often turn to the cards when I need help making a decision. 

The best thing I’ve done for my card reading development has been to record each reading in a tarot journal (like the one pictured above). This has helped me deepen my understanding of the cards, build confidence as a reader, and identify themes or patterns in my readings. 

I’m excited to see how my tarot relationship will continue to develop as I gain more experience. For now, I’m just enjoying the journey.
