I just know in my heart of hearts that in "Star Trek" at one point, there was some moral panic somewhere on Vulcan (among the uppity sorts) because Human culture was "infecting" the local youth with their overly emotional, destructive, unproductive, frivolous, and uneducational ways.
And what was actually happening was that a bunch of Vulcan kids got really into 23rd-century "Minecraft" or something.
Small Vulcan child @ another Vulcan child: (in a tone that sounds flat to Humans but angry as hell to Vulcans) "You have compromised the optimization of my fortress. I am having an emotional urge to blow up your house... in Minecraft."

That it’s clearly habit for them to divide up whatever food they’re given according to who can eat what is such a great little moment.

Loved how the answers to V’ger and Spock’s question of “Is this all that I am?” lie in such human concepts of love, acceptance, union. The completion of their sense of selves are not dependent on the two men, but rather so much more fulfilling, real, and tangible through loving them and everything that comes with doing so.
Side note: love being a want or need for union is a philosophical take i don’t 100% agree with (narratively speaking it’s so romantic, though, especially in this movie’s context LOL), but Marilyn Friedman’s twist on love as more of a separate, “third” unified entity (a federation of the lovers’ selves) was fun to think about ^_^

sorry but I don’t think there’s a heterosexual reason why Gene Roddenberry himself wrote a scene where Spock admitted to feeling Jim’s thoughts to the crew, clarified to the reader that Vulcan’s can only feel the thoughts of someone you’re intensely close with and then having Spock think “oh god I just admitted I love him”

It's canon that Spock likes to fuck with people and pretend he doesn't know human sayings just so he can make people explain it to him.
And then Kirk just knows when Spock is serious or is just being difficult and obtuse on purpose. They're married your honour.

Spock: The captain seems unhappy. Perhaps if I pretend to misunderstand a common Terran idiom, he will be amused.

From Voyages of Imagination, by Jeff Ayers. Sondra Marshak and Myrna Culbreath talk about their novel "The Price of the Phoenix":
They had a story to tell: “Once when we were having lunch with Bill [Shatner] and Leonard [Nimoy], Bill had read our then forthcoming novel The Price of the Phoenix in manuscript. Bill told Leonard, ‘I don’t know why Paramount is still looking for a script. Their novel, The Price of the Phoenix, should be the script for the Star Trek movie. It would give us a chance to play things no two actors have ever played before.’
Bill, Bill... BILL!! Did you really read The Price of the Phoenix!? The single most slashy ST novel ever published!? Where Spock mind-melds with a naked Kirk? And then Kirk rubs ointment on a naked Spock!? Did you really want to film that!!?
Unless.......
