Weird Gravity Falls question:

As fans, we’re all aware that Filbrick sucked as a dad.

But do Stan and Ford understand that?

It seems obvious to us outside viewers, but I don’t exactly recall any comments by either senior Pines twin that would suggest they have connected those dots. I believe it’s fairly normal for children of abusive, neglectful or just simply bad parents to think their parent’s behavior was normal or that they deserved it or whatever, and in addiction to not being able to remember a moment where they admit their dad sucked, they certainly have both internalized his words.

Ford continued to pursue his education and was obsessed with academic excellence, as that seemed to be the one and only thing that made his father show him any kind of appreciation.

Stan continued to obsess over money, as his dad told him that was the only way he was allowed to return home. And let’s not forget his comment in the finale “dad was right, I am a screw up”

But again, and please please correct me if I’m wrong, I can’t think of anything either of them has said that criticizes their father’s actions. There’s the comment that he “wasn’t easily impressed” which I think more than anything, serves more as an excuse for his actions. Heck, in the flashback of Stan taking boxing lessons, I felt that whole scene was framed as Filbrick being a good dad, personally, I thought he was a good dad up until A Tale of Two Stans.

Idk I guess I just always assumed that after several decades they started to understand that Filbrick wasn’t a great dad, but it’s perfectly realistic for neither of them to have come to that conclusion, and frankly, the tiny bits of evidence from the show support this being the case.

I rambled a bit here, but what do you all think? Did I forget a moment that proves they do see their dad wasn’t a good dad? Do you think they have processed that part of their childhoods?

Much has been said about why Jon sacrificing Dany a la Nissa Nissa is horrible, sexist writing (in addition to being completely useless because Dany already fulfilled the prophecy herself)…but no one ever mentions how this literally doesn’t make sense for Jon either? Like the very first chapter in the series, Bran I, tells us what Jon would do if he ever had to make a choice: he would choose to sacrifice himself over anyone else. You mean to tell me that very same Jon who is unwilling to deprive his younger sister of her birthright would deprive a would-be lover of her very life?? That’s just so diametrically opposed to who Jon is. Plus it’s thematically inconsistent because Jon always gets rewarded for sacrificing himself, which is very different from the established Azor Ahai lore given to us by Salladhor Saan.

Like, when in the books has he ever been hostile towards a woman because they've refused to have sex with him??? When in the books has he even tried to have sex with a woman? Like, if you want to argue that he has internalized misogyny because of his beauty standards thing, sure- I'll hear you out- but incel is a very specific brand of misogyny and it is pure headcanon if you want to call him that

And I kept seeing people bring up the getting black listed by matchmakers thing as proof he's an incel and like??? You know there's more possibilities for why he'd be undatable than just "being an incel," right? Like, maybe he's just loud and angry. Maybe he just jumps to conclusions during arguments. Maybe he just doesn't know how to drop grievances. Maybe he's just an equal opportunity asshole. Or maybe he's just an emotional constipated stick-in-the-mud. I never make posts but man the HOTD fandom on tumblr is embarrassing. I find myself blocking people constantly due to the toxicity just because the way they only approach shows from a shipping and stan culture side.

I grew up on this site and have been a part of shipping before, but the way some of y’all will wildly misinterpret or condemn a show for not being written in the wildly ooc interpretation you have is shameful. The characters aren’t “poor little mew mews” this is a piece of media where you cant project that onto characters.

Hell, some of you even claim to read the books and your takes are so far fetched im sure you just say you read the book to get moral superiority in arguments. Its clear you either didnt read it or have ass reading comprehension skills.

Anyway this isn’t the entire fandom of course, but it’s very frustrating not being able to actually talk about the shows mistakes (and its successes) when 9/10 posts are about how shit your comprehension skills are. We have been on this hellsite forever, there are nearly no new users so I know for a fact most of y’all cant hide behind the excuse of being kids.

I want to preface this by saying this is in no way a dunk on TADC, I enjoyed the TADC pilot a decent amount, but man-

People keep bringing up TADC's explosive success as a sort of dunk on Hazbin (I know some are just comparing to highlight how impressive the former is, but I've seen several people legitimately leveraging it as a mockery of the latter) and I don't... get that. Hazbin Hotel was introduced from minute one as an 'adult' cartoon, with swearing and sex out the gate. It's a show that no one in their right mind would be comfortable with their child watching. And yeah, some kids like it, but it's definitely a teen and adult dominated fandom. Teens and adults will rewatch media, and they're a wide viewerbase - hence 90m views, but they're nothing compared to the viewing power of children.

TADC is like BaTIM, and FNaF, and Baldi, and Poppy's Playtime, etc etc, in that it's a brightly coloured, 3D, simple character-designed /horror/ (psychological, this time!). Which is, as proven by the amount of examples I picked right off the top of my head, INCREDIBLY popular among children 14 and under. This isn't to compare TADC quality-wise to those products, just, it does fit into that theme bracket. Its characters literally can't even swear. If a parent sees their kid sat watching it, 9 times out of 10 they'll see nothing wrong and let them watch it.

And boy, kids are a powerful viewing audience. A kid will sit and let something loop 20 times and never get bored. You know those Johnny Johnny Yes Papa videos with 1 BILLION views? Those nursery rhyme animations with hundreds of millions? I'm serious, the cap for how popular a piece of kids internet media can get is SOOOO much higher than one for adults in 90% of instances.

Again, not disparaging the popularity. It can only be a good thing for GLITCH and Goose, and I want them to succeed... at this point I have much more optimism at their prospects to deliver a good product than Vivziepop and Spindlehorse. But I don't know if anyone had brought this fact up before 😅.

As I slowly, sloooooowly inch my way through this OrangeHook fic (saying I write at a glacial pace is an insult to glaciers), I'm eventually gonna get to the point where it should get smutty, but usually that means I'll chicken out and find myself unable to actually write the smut, so.

I've thought a little bit about trying to smash through this weird block I have with writing anything actually dirty by taking a break to write some context-less Ricky smut. But if I did, it'd probably have to be Ricky/Big Bill because there aren't really any other obvious pairings for Ricky and I just...no offense to Large William but I have zero thoughts in my head whenever I see him so I do not know how I could write him, in any context.

But then, who else is going to *CENSORED BEEPING* Ricky's perfect *CENSORED BEEPING* and then *CENSORED BEEPING* all while he's wearing his championship belt??
