originally  released  in  the  summer  of  last  year,    dead  serious    is  a  musical  middle  finger  to  the  united  states  government,  capitalism  and  international  corporations  in  the  wake  of  the  ongoing  worldwide  climate  crisis.  the  inspiration  behind  and  increasing  popularity  of  the  tune  can  be  painted  against  the  background  of  the  destructive  wildfire  season  in  california  and  ensuing  climate  change  protests,  causing  the  song  to  go  viral  on  social  media  applications  as  many  used  soundbites  of  the  song  in  their  tiktok  videos,  or  posted  pictures  of  song  lyrics  as  slogans  on  their  protest  signs.  not  surprising  considering  its  snappy  lyrics,  with  the  unfiltered    instead  of  meat,  let's  eat  the  rich    as  one  of  many  examples. with  song  lyrics  drawing  a  direct  contrast  between  the  (in)action  of  both  national  and  international  bodies  of  government  and  the  californian  wildfires,  the  extinction  of  more  and  more  species  of  animals  and  continued  global  deforestation,  it  is  vividly  clear  to  listeners  what  the  band  means  by  their  hook    i'm  just  curious,  aren't  you  furious?  this  is  dead  serious.    band  members  erika,  dawn  and  addie  have  publicly  spoken  about  the  song  being  not  a  request,  but  a  demand  for  change    —    of  no  longer  tiptoeing  around  themes  of    “  climate  destruction  at  the  hands  of  a  bunch  of  greedy  capitalists  who  only  think  of  the  short  terms  gains  of  stuffing  their own  pockets,  rather  than  the  long  term  survival  of  planet  earth.  ” following  the  band's  contract  with  revolution  records,  the  single  has  gone  through  a  re-release    —    the  earlier  self  produced  version  with  its  faint  mistakes  and  questionably  mixed  audio  now  exchanged  for  professional  production  with  clean  vocals  and  instruments,  but  never  losing  its  authenticity  and  rawness.  the  band  even  especially  included  an  easter  egg  to  their  earlier  version  of  the  song,  leaving  in  the  original  outro  after  the  song  has  finished,  which  has  an  unknown  voice  asking    eat  the  rich?  you're  joking  right,  isn't  that  a  little  much?    to  which  drummer  dawn  responds  with  a  scornful    no,  we're  dead  serious.    it    is    believed    the    re-release    of    their    single    is    the    precursor    for    the    band's    widely    anticipated    debut    album    with    the    label,    and    if    this    single    is    anything    to    go    by,    it    will    be    equally    cynical,    real    and    most    of    all    painfully    honest.  until  then,  the  newly  released  version  of    dead  serious    is  now  available  on  all  streaming  platforms,  as  well  as  in  cd  and  lp  format    —    and  know  buying  the  single doesn't  only  support  the  band,  but  also  the  environment  as  10%  of  each  sale  is  being  donated  to  wwf  to  help  aid  nature  conservation.

actually On Your Feet gave us two good things (well. three if you like Realize which I do). Kohane's "it's frustrating" line and the great crack fic idea of Vivid Bad Squad getting cancelled online for skipping school to yell at The Kotaki Taiga as he was about to go back to America.

Suzumi Hiyori:

Moved to Tokyo from the countryside in order to enrol in Sakuragaoka High School for the sake of continuing to run in her beloved Track and Field Club. Works as the apprentice manager for LIPxLIP.

Shiranami Nagisa:

Hiyori’s childhood friend from her hometown. He was part of the Track and Field Club in Middle School, though he is currently training to become a chef. Has loved Hiyori ever since they were children.

The sporty couple who view each other’s efforts with high regard.  

Yamako: The fact that they have such a high regard for each other’s efforts is their shared charm point. Sporty people, amirite? (laughs) Even though they didn’t end up dating in the anime, due to Hiyori “not wanting to think about love at the moment”, I think that their relationship of supporting each other’s dreams, and then reuniting again someday, is one that has not been portrayed yet till now.

shito: The two of them are childhood friends, and, at first glance, their relationship may seem similar to the one between Enomoto Natsuki and Setoguchi Yu. But when you get into the details of it, those two relationships are pretty different, no? 

Gom: Hiyori and Nagisa are both full of energy, like the students they are, aren’t they? Nagisa’s youthful determination to not throw in the towel, despite the long distance between them, makes him just so cool!

Checking their “love meter”:

Yamako: These two aren’t a couple yet, so…

shito: They sure aren’t, huh? But in Nagisa’s case, he has both feelings of romantic love and friendship towards Hiyori, so I’d put him at 100 for friendship, and 100 for love.

Yamako: Aren’t those values kinda weird? (laughs)

Gom: But that’s what makes Nagisa such a great guy, yeah?

shito: As for Hiyori… I’m sure there are many people who can relate to her in this, but there are times when you only become conscious of someone after they confess to you, right?

Yamako: That’s true, it seems like something will change in her. Following his confession, her confidence in herself grew, and, even though her feelings of friendship for him are already at 100, I get the feeling that her feelings of romantic love towards him will slowly go up from the starting point of 0.

Gom: Hiyori’s still out of her depth in this situation, though. She even sings lines like “It’s still too early for me to fall in love”, which says as much.

In conclusion:

Nagisa: Scores 100/100 in both friendship and romantic love on the love meter.

Hiyori: Scores 100/100 in friendship, but her score for romantic love is increasing from 0.

Things to look out and listen out for in the album!

shito: “The Below-Average Heroine. (by Suzumi Hiyori)” is a song that goes along with the anime, though I wrote it to express the emotions that Hiyori didn’t show in the anime. Also, I wanted people who started out with the anime to know more about Nagisa, so I wrote “I Lied to the Girl I Love. (by Shiranami Nagisa)”. These two songs are just about their present encounters and their past, so it kind of seems like we don’t dare to show you guys what their futures hold yet (lol).
