TIME FOR RETIREMENT!

Quite a few of our horses has been retired from shows this month, staring with BOE Mexico Nightmare. This prima Oldenburg mare has been doing quite well in Show Jumping, and also fine in Dressage too. With 42 points in Show Jumping T-Shows. 43 points in Show Jumping, 48 points in Dressage and 65 points in Sportshorse in R-Shows - she has definitely earned her retirement!

The best children's pony in the world has also reached retirement age! BOE Sunny Day aka. Sunny has been the first pony for almost all of our children, and has taught them to ride and love horses. She has been competing in Pony (181 points), Pony Show Jumping (186 points) and Driving (190 points) with the kids, and has had a lot of fun!

With her she takes the titles of The Golden Pony, Nuage and Tandem Champion.

Opaline HF aka. Libby has also earned her retirement! With an overall of 383 points in R-Shows you can say she has done really good. She has competed in Sportshorse (146 points), Show Jumping (142 points) and Dressage (95 points), giving a total of 8 bonus points off to her offsprings!

She has done a lot of good in her time as a show horse (with titles of Supreme Champion, Volant and L'Étoile), and will hopefully enjoy her retirement. Thank you for selling her to us Ian Salvatore!

RRS Caspian has been a personal favorite of mine for sooo long! He has done a lot of good with an overall score of 451 points across disciplines such as Sportshorse (132 points), Show Jumping (172 points) and Dressage (147 points). He has earned the titles of Supreme Champion, Nuage and Danzatore through his career as a show horse.

BOE Rolly Joger aka. Sandokan has been a good boy, definitely deserving his retirement at 403 points across the disciplines. Seeing him compete in Show Jumping (151 points) with Narcisa Foremann has been one of the biggest pleasures in my life. He definitely takes after his sire BOE Sailor Moon, and has done a great job at every show!

Dressage (137 points) wasn't what he enjoyed the most, but he did well there too along with the halter shows for Sportshorses (115 points).

Retirering GE Rosebank was harder than I had thought possible. She is such a good mare, her rider Vigga Hertz can only agree with that, and we are happy to now have an offspring of hers, who can take over after her.

Whether in Sportshorse (181 points), Show Jumping (146 points) or Dressage (170 points) she always did her best. She is such a prima mare of the Hanoverians, and we will probably never get a mare like her again.

BOE Ladykiller shouldn't have been retired this early. Shouldn't have been dead either. Yet he hurt himself so badly at a show that he had to be put down.

He earned himself a few points throughout his lifetime: Turkoman (41 points), Show Jumping (57 points) and Dressage (52 points) - and will give his skills to his sons in hopes that they will remember him, and have the same skill as him in shows.

That was all the horses retired this month!

RAINY DAYS AFTER HEATWAVE

It's not a lie when I tell you that this September (the part of it that has gone by anyway) has been the hottest we have had in 50 something years. We have had temperatures above 30 degrees celcius, which is definitely not normal for September in Denmark.

Anyways today it was apparently turning around and September is finally becoming the Fall month it was supposed to be (let it out girl!). So when I went towards the jumping arena to get some training with the latest newcomer, Denali, done it was of course raining.

To be fair it had rained most of the day, which is why I had postponed the riding until it was absolutely necessary. The indoor arenas are not completely finished on the inside yet, and the obstacles has yet to be put up, so if I wanted to train jumping I had to do it outside.

Putting on my best fall gear, and had tacked up Denali and of we went!

And the beginning it almost didn't rain. The sun was up and shining, so I would probably have spotted a rainbow if I wasn't so busy with Denali, who was very much keeping me on my toes today. He was quite frisky.

I should probably present him though. He is an English bred Appaloosa gelding, but should be view as very green, as he even at 12 years of age hasn't tried much in his young life. He was broken in barely a year ago, and after more than half a year the young owner deemed that the gelding was too much for her.

So he ended up here, and I have been training with him intensively since he got here. Honestly, I don't know what Vivian was thinking when she took him in, as this is after all a Sportshorse stable and a Jumping stable mostly, but maybe Denali can excel still? Maybe she will even let me do some cross country with him in the future - that could honestly be a lot of fun!

Anyways, it went pretty well we the training. He was jumping well (and yes, Lottie has learned about angles at her photography class!), and Lottie snapped a few good pictures for the blog, so that was nice. After all, if I am riding most of the time, when am I supposed to take pictures?

Another horse at the stable that puzzles me a little is Chief (RL Jester's Chief). I don't exactly know what he is doing here, but he is cute, so yeah, why not. Vivian claims that she is holding him for a buyer, but I haven't seen said buyer yet. Maybe she just saw him, and needed him. HA! Who am I kidding, then Vivian would actually be capable of human emotions and/or believe in love at first sight, which she definitely doesn't!

Anyway, bringing Denali out to Chief was a joy. The two (well three) spotties gets along very well, and Denali and Chief is often seen grooming and scratching each other. Pinkie has joined their herd, so it's only the three of them, since he doesn't seem to like Toémme very much (what a shame), and then Kozak, Toémme and Cou are sharing a pasture. Seems to fit everyone very well, and it makes for a much calmer pasture climate, so that's all good.

Rain was getting stronger as I watched the spots in their natural habitat.

Soon after both Chief and Denali wanted to go inside, and I honestly don't blame them. Soon it will be blanket time, especially if it keeps raining like this. Pinkie didn't seem to care much about the rain though, as he stayed far away from the entrance, grazing.

STORY FROM A JOURNALIST

Unnamed Journalist’s POV

When now retired soccer player Declan Rossi was asked what he would do now that he had injured his hamstring so badly that he wouldn’t be able to play professional soccer ever again what he would do with his time now, he quite confidently replied: “Well, I have always liked horses, so maybe something with horses?”

That made the crowd and the interviewer laugh. What they didn’t know though was that he had been helping breaking in quite a few young horses throughout his earlier years as a teen and young adult, until he made a career for himself as a soccer player that is. He even had a horse of his own, throughout his career, the now 15 year old Sportshorse gelding Dynamix, whom he had bought with the money he had saved from his first few paychecks.

What he hadn’t thought about was: who would hire an ex soccer player with a hamstring injury? Apparently Soffía Hagen would, as she was on the lookout for rider who could help break in and train her youngsters. And when Rossi saw the horses he would be training for the first time, he had laughed, loudly: “Those small ponies? You want me to train ponies?”

One of the youngsters had then tried to take a bite out of his arm, which made him flinch and pull back: “Okay. Feisty youngsters, I can do that.” And just like that he was hired, even if he had never ridden an Icelandic Horse in his life before.

Update: for fun fact, he is a Friesian, but I can see where the Thoroughbred reference comes from! In fact, I figured out that he might be closer to the Friesian Sportshorse variant in terms of appearance.

EJ GENERAL INFORMATION

ABOUT US

EJ is owned by Vivian Cheswick. The stable doesn’t have a direction yet, when it comes to breeds, as they are in the process of buying up some Sportshorses, before deciding too much - but the stable is definitely focused on Show Jumping and Show Jumpers.

The staff right now consists of owner and mentor Vivian Cheswick, and her menteé Lauren Gibson. Every story - for now anyways - is told through Lauren’s eyes.
